Meshy AI: 3D Print Model Maker · Meshy LLC

Snap a photo, print a figurine: Meshy's phone app is a big company filling a gap, not a new opportunity

What it is Meshy's official phone app: snap a photo, upload a sketch or type a prompt, and generate a model you can send straight to 3D printing. It syncs with your web account.

Why it took off It rides on the parent brand: tens of millions of existing users migrating over, big ongoing ad spend and creator content spilling over, and a default position in the Bambu Lab printing community. Small-country graphic design charts have low entry barriers, so it looks like it's charting everywhere.

CHow you could play it Don't compete with generic photo-to-3D. Use Meshy's or Tripo's API to wrap a narrow use case (printed pet figurines shipped to you, replacement parts, and so on), charge once, and get customers through creator videos in niche communities.

C grade: its traction comes from brand, existing users and ad budget that followers can't match. Its revenue and funding are already public, and the generic segment has equally well-funded Tripo and printer makers' own entry points. What's worth learning is the narrow-use-case packaging and the creator-ad playbook. Already public / widely discussed

Meshy AI: 3D Print Model Maker hit the iPhone in September and within two months was charting in 85 countries. Behind it is an 3D AI company with annual revenue above $100M and a $1.5B valuation. The app is just its web product moved to mobile. This piece covers why it surfaced, how much of the chart position is noise, who is competing with it, and what a small team can still take from it.

A small figurine, one photo

On Aug 2026 28, MakeUseOf editor Rob LeFebvre published a hands-on test: he set a small Grogu figurine on a white kitchen table by the window, snapped a photo with his phone, uploaded it to Meshy, hit generate, and a few minutes later had a 3D file ready to print. Even the gun he'd forgotten inside the spaceship got modeled. He'd tried multi-photo scanning apps like Reality Scan before, and the first scan came out as his coffee table, with a hole where the unicorn head should have been.

One line in that article has since become irrelevant: "If you use an iPhone, you can use the mobile web version for now." Nine days later, in September 6, Meshy's iPhone app launched.

He also noted how the money works: generation is free, new accounts get 100 credits, a small figurine costs 20–40 credits. To download the file for printing, you need Pro at $20 a month.

What it is

An iPhone app: snap a photo, upload a sketch, or type a sentence, and generate a textured 3D model. Unlike typical "AI 3D" tools, it is built for 3D printing: printability checks, AI repair, AR preview, and export to STL, 3MF, GLB, OBJ and USDZ, with works synced to your web account. The US title is "3D Print Model Maker", while Europe and Latin America use "3D Model Generator", likely targeting different search terms in different markets (inferred).

Free download, new accounts get credits; Meshy Pro is $19.99 a month in the US. The Google Play listing's in-app purchase range is $19.99–$479.99. The Android version actually came first, in August 9.

Why it surfaced: because it's Meshy

The app itself tells no new story. Almost all of its volume comes from the parent brand:

  • Existing users migrating over. In September 30 Meshy issued a press release saying annual recurring revenue passed $100M and registered users exceeded 15M (the App Store description says "1000 million creators"). The app was promoted together with that news. In July it raised about $400M in a Series B at a $1.5B valuation. The store reviews read like existing users: a German reviewer 9-19 "only half as good as the web version, low-poly and similar settings can't be adjusted in the app"; a Russian reviewer 9-23 "I can't always sit at a computer, so bring the same features to mobile, Meshy is so useful"; a French reviewer 10-01 "I really like Meshy, but photo generation takes several tries before it understands what you want, so I keep paying and paying."
  • Large ongoing ad spend spilling over. Meta Ad Library 11-06: Meshy's page currently has 676 live ads and 15,120 historically, mostly creator-licensed 3D printing videos: "review Meshy, I'll send you the link", making small animals with a 3D pen, paired with a first-month 5–7% off exclusive code, covering English, Italian, German, Korean, Japanese and Spanish. But every one of these ads lands on the meshy.ai web page. None points directly to the App Store. Google shows about 200 ads running daily, mostly text search ads, with no install ads spotted.

Why now: as consumer multi-color printers like Bambu Lab's became mainstream, "take a photo, print it out" moved from a maker hobby to a normal user need, and that naturally happens on the phone.

The chart numbers need a discount

App Store rating count (all countries combined) went from 10-28 to 528,11-06 (per 700), with 7 added in the last 145 days. Daily additions rose from 8 to 26. The number of charting countries went from 71 to 85. It sounds like growth, but break it down:

Where to lookFigures (App Store, as of 11-06)
Best-ranked countryJordan graphic design Top Grossing #17, Bahrain #18, Nigeria #21. In these countries its rating count is only 0 to 1
Best among major marketsItaly Top Grossing #17 (11-03), Germany #19, Spain #22 (11-04)
The US, with the most ratings291 ratings, bouncing between #89 and #104 on the graphic design Top Free chart
Android163,150 cumulative installs, 28,213,976 new ratings in 7 days (Google Play, 11-06)

The graphic design Top Grossing chart in small countries has very low entry barriers. A $19.99 subscription, a few purchases, and you can reach the top 20 (inferred). So "charting in 85 countries" mainly shows that the category is quiet in those countries, not that the app broke out on its own. By installs, the main volume is on Android. For a company with tens of millions of registered users, 700 iOS ratings in two months is not much.

Users' complaints boil down to one thing: credits. A one-star review from the China store 10-22 puts it bluntly: "The photo generation is perfect, but the chat-based editing in the beta eats a credit every time you ask for a change. The AI misunderstands most requests, so you keep editing and keep losing credits." A five-star review from the US store 10-23 carries the same worry: "I'm happy to pay for more features, as long as they don't rip off consumers."

Remeshy: AI 3D PrintablesAbout 688 iOS ratings, only 4 added in 7 daysA small team's "AI 3D printing" app built over 2024 years, with a name that rides on Meshy's, has already shut down

The leaders are two companies that each raised over $400M, with printer makers' own platforms in between. Small teams have no place in "generic photo-to-3D".

Some are riding its name

The most interesting one is "Meshy AI 3D Generator" by developer Eden Benlulu, released in June 24 2026, two and a half months before the official app. It sits in the Reference category with only 86 ratings (7 days +19), yet charted in 39 countries with a best rank of #14. Another, "Meshy AI 3D Model Generator" (Jaroslav Stastny, released in August), literally says "Meshy AI lets you…" in its description.

This shows that during the gap when a big brand only offered a web product and delayed an app, people searched the store for its name, and if they couldn't find the official one, they downloaded someone else's. But once the official app arrived, that gap closed, and these clones risk being reported and removed.

If it were you

C: worth learning from, but not worth copying the business. It was built on a $1.5B company's brand, existing users and ad spend, none of which you can get. Its revenue and funding have already been reported, and the generic segment has an equally well-funded Tripo and printer makers' own entry points.

Who it suits: a 1–2 person team with 3D printing experience or a specific hobby community (tabletop miniatures, figurines, cosplay props, car mods, cookie molds) and the network and content skills to reach it, looking to build a narrow tool or service.

Who it doesn't suit: anyone wanting to build "yet another photo-to-3D" app, or trying to ride the brand name for search traffic. Meshy's gap has already passed, and the window before the next big web-only brand launches an app is only a few months and gray-area.

How to do it: don't train your own model. Meshy and Tripo both offer APIs, so treat generation as raw material and wrap a narrow use case: for example, "snap a photo of your pet, receive a color-printed small figurine" (bundle printing and shipping too, charge once, don't sell credits), or "photograph a broken part, get a replacement that fits" (these need precise dimensions that generic generation handles poorly, which is an opening, inferred). The biggest complaint in reviews is "every edit costs credits," so a pricing model where people see the result before paying, and don't pay for failed attempts, is itself a selling point.

How to get customers: a scaled-down version of Meshy's playbook. Find creators in a niche community to film the full "from one photo to printed object" process, attach exclusive codes, and test in one country and one language on a small budget first. Bambu Lab's MakerWorld and printer communities are where these users gather.

When the window closes: Meshy and Tripo are both building into printer makers' software. The window for a narrow use case probably runs on a quarterly timescale, before they build this scenario into their default flow (inferred).

What if you misread it: ① Meshy App's iOS ratings have kept climbing by more than 50 a day with no news spike, and it's charting Top 30 in Graphics & Design in the US store. That would mean mobile has its own demand, worth a second look. ② If Bambu or Creality ships "snap a photo, print it" straight into their own app, most of that narrow space gets eaten. ③ Conversely, if a video of "photo to physical object" in your niche gets tens of thousands of views with no ad spend, the demand is real. Move fast.

Meshy AI: 3D Print Model Maker (ios_6761040759): why it got traction

Bottom line: this is not a newly emerged App. It's a mobile version that AI 3D leader Meshy (ARR above $100M, valuation $1.5B, claims 15M registered users) added to its existing web product. The app gained traction from three things: the parent brand's existing users moving over, large ongoing spending on Meta, Google and creators that spills over, and 3D printing itself suiting mobile (photo → model → print). It charting in small countries comes from the Graphics & Design category having a low bar there, not from it generating anything on its own. Revenue and funding are long public and widely reported, and some have already started riding the name.

1. What it is

  • An iPhone app from Meshy LLC, 2026-09-06 on the App Store (App Store library app_profile; Spatial Insiders). Generates textured 3D models from photos, sketches or text; includes printability checks, AI repair, AR preview; exports STL / 3MF / GLB / FBX / OBJ / USDZ; works sync with web accounts.
  • Pricing: free download, new accounts get generation credits; Meshy Pro is $19.99/month (US store). The Google Play version's in-app purchase range is $19.99–$479.99 (googleplay library 2026-11-06).
  • The Android version ai.meshy.app came out earlier, 2026-08-09 (googleplay library).
  • Parent company: Meshy, founded by Ethan Hu (MIT PhD). The Google ad entity is "Beijing Graphy Keys Technology Co., Ltd." (googleads library): a Chinese team selling globally.

2. The data (appstore / googleplay libraries, 2026-10-28 to 11-06)

  • iOS global rating count 528 → 700,9 days up 172; last 7 days +145; daily adds went from 8 to 26 (10-29 → 11-06). Charting countries 71 → 85.
  • Ratings concentrate in the US store: 291 ratings, 7 days +56, yet in the US it only bounces between #89–104 on the Graphics & Design Top Free chart. The second tier is Brazil 52, Germany 45, Italy 30, UK 28.
  • Its best ranks are on Graphics & Design Top Grossing in countries like Jordan (#17), Bahrain (#18) and Nigeria (#21). There its rating count is 0–1, which suggests a handful of subscriptions gets it onto the chart, so the bar is very low (inferred). Among large markets, its best is #19 Top Grossing in Germany (11-04), #17 in Italy (11-03), and #22 in Spain (11-04).
  • Android: 163,150 cumulative installs, 7 days +28,213,976 ratings, best rank #17 on Top Grossing in ART_AND_DESIGN in Germany (googleplay library 11-06). By ratings and installs, mobile's main engine is Android.
  • Reviews show existing users moved over: "J'adore Meshy… paid and paid again" (French store, 10-01), "Only half as good as the web version, can't adjust parameters" (German store, 09-19), "I can't always sit at a computer, bring the features to my phone" (Russian store, 09-23), "Why is there a phone version but no iPad version" (Indian store). These people used the web version first. Negative reviews center on credit consumption: each change to a model via Beta chat costs credits (Italian store, 1 stars, 10-22).

4. How users came in (growth levers)

  1. Parent brand's existing users moved over (confirmed): the company says over 15M registered users and ARR above $100M (PR Newswire 2026-09-30); the app launch came out alongside that ARR news (TipRanks). Reviews compare it with the web version, and accounts are shared.
  2. Heavy Meta spending, landing on web (confirmed): Page "Meshy" has 73k likes, 676 ads running now, 15,120 in total; the earliest we see is from 2026-04-15; every landing goes to meshy.ai, none directly to the App Store (metaads library advertiser / ad, 11-06). Most creatives are creator-licensed whitelisted videos across English, Italian, German, Korean, Japanese and Spanish, e.g. "Comment \"Meshy\" and I'll send you the link", 3D-printing small animals, "the fried-noodle question every 3D printing fan knows", plus exclusive promo codes (50–70% off the first month for new users). The main pitch is Meshy 7 and multicolor printing. How much the app gets depends on whether the mobile landing page sends people on to the store (inferred).
  3. Google spending (confirmed, but not for the app): Beijing Graphy Keys Technology Co., Ltd. has had 2025-01-08 creatives since 1,081, 735 of them text (search) ads; from 11-03 to 11-06 about 200 ran per day; no install creatives seen (googleads library). The store library tags the app itself as low, and the Android package as mid.
  4. TikTok / creator content (confirmed): official account @meshy.ai has 194k followers, 307 videos and 3.36M likes (TikHub 11-06). Among results for "meshy ai 3d print", top is @sin.dc's "next-gen Image-to-3D" (1.63M views, 09-24), the same as the Meta whitelisted creative; 3D-printing creators such as @marigo3d also appear. Meshy shows "unconfirmed" in the European TikTok ad library, but not finding it there doesn't mean it isn't running.
  5. Bambu Lab MakerWorld partnership (confirmed): Meshy's image-to-3D and multicolor printing have been built into MakerLab since 2026-03 (PR Newswire APAC), and June added text-to-3D (filamentfeed). That made Meshy the default name in the consumer 3D printing community.
  6. Press reviews (confirmed): 3Dnatives hands-on test (3Dnatives 2026-09-23), and MakeUseOf's "Turn real objects into printable models in 5 minutes with your phone" (MakeUseOf).
  7. Store search / brand terms: Titles differ by store. The US uses "3D Print Model Maker", while Europe and Latin America use "3D Model Generator", so it's feeding on category keywords (inferred). People search the brand term "Meshy", which is why name-riding apps exist (see section 6).

5. Why it took off and what sets it apart

  • It took off on resources, not on the app itself: the app just moves a web product with $100M ARR onto the phone. Two months of iOS gave 700 ratings, which is modest given the parent's scale; Android has 160k installs, under a quarter of Tripo's Android installs.
  • Differentiation: (1) Model quality and brand. Meshy 6/7 leads with "matches the input image closely". (2) Built for 3D printing: printability checks, AI repair, automatic part splitting, multi-color printing that maps texture colors to filament slots, and one-click export to 3MF or straight to Bambu. (3) The same account and the same credits on web and mobile. Compared with Tripo, the feature set is nearly identical. The real difference is that Meshy became the name for "3D printing + AI" earlier (built into MakerWorld, pushed by 3D printing creators). That difference explains how Meshy as a company got ahead, but not why this app charted. The app charted because of brand conversion plus a low bar for its category.
  • Why now: after consumer multicolor printers (Bambu AMS / H series) went mainstream, "take a photo, print it" became mass demand. The app launched alongside Meshy 7 and Meshy 7.1, catching the Q3 ARR news.

6. How many people know about it / follow the trend

  • The revenue is public and widely discussed: ARR over $100M, 2026-07 raised about $400M in a Series B at a $1.5B valuation (pulse2); reportedly led by IDG, Gaorong China, and Monolith (valueaddvc). Monolith is also one of our investors, so if you want to talk, that's a route.
  • Name-jacking (already seen): "Meshy AI 3D Generator" (developer Eden Benlulu, listed 2026-06-24, earlier than the official App, filed under Reference, 86 ratings, +19 in 7 days, charted in 39 countries, best rank #14); "Meshy AI 3D Model Generator" (Jaroslav Stastny, 2026-08-19,5 ratings, description literally opens with "Meshy AI lets you…"); the early Remeshy (2024). The appstore library also has a batch of small image-to-3D wrappers (Blend3D, ImgTo3D, AI 3D Model for Tinkercad, etc.), all with tiny volume.

7. What others can learn

  • Name-jacking wrappers do work: Eden Benlulu's knockoff has only 86 ratings but charted in 39 countries. During the window when the big brand only has a web product and no App, using the brand name plus "3D Generator" picks up search traffic, but carries takedown and brand-complaint risk.
  • Graphic design top-grossing charts in small countries have very low bars, and AI tools with high subscription prices (19.99 USD) reach the top 20 with just a few subscriptions. Strip this factor out before reading the rankings.
  • Pick a concrete hardware use case for vertical positioning ("made for 3D printing", direct export to 3MF / printer integration). Community partnerships with printer makers sell better than generic "AI 3D".
  • Creative angles for whitelisted influencer ads: "Comment X and I'll send you the link", real build-process footage, exclusive promo codes.

8. Still unclear

  • The App's own revenue and downloads split (Meshy hasn't disclosed mobile data); most of iOS's top-grossing rank comes from low-bar countries.
  • Meta / Google spend doesn't map directly to the App Store. Can't tell how many new iOS installs come from ad-driven mobile landing pages versus organic App Store search.
  • TikTok Europe ads: mapping unconfirmed.
  • Tripo's iOS rating count is only the combined total across charted countries, so it will read low.
