# A 85-ruble Colosseum: Stanza used AI to churn out 1,248 sightseeing guides. Busy on the charts, cold in the bank account

**What it is** A travel audio guide app: self-guided tours of thousands of attractions worldwide, with AI-written scripts and voiceovers in 15 languages. The first two stops are free; single guides start at $1.

**Why it took off** It hasn't really taken off yet. The travel Top Grossing bar is very low, and it covers so many attractions and languages that a handful of people buy a $1 guide every day. That puts it on charts in a dozen countries at once, but its real scale is one or two ratings globally and 500+ Android installs.

**C** **How you could follow it** Don't copy the 'cover the whole world' approach. Take its structure, one attraction = one web page = one in-app purchase = one store keyword, and pick a language audience or scenario nobody is serving well, then go deep. Acquire users through search traffic and attraction partnerships.

C grade: the playbook is clear and cheap, but even after building thousands of attractions, it only gets single-digit $1 orders per day. The category has veteran players going back over a decade, plus a batch of new AI players from the same period, and big companies offer free features on top. You can learn from the structure, but following it isn't worth much. Few people know about it yet

Stanza is a travel audio guide app from a one-person company in Bulgaria. Using AI for scripts and voiceovers, it rolled out 1,248 attractions in 15 languages in two months, and it appeared on the travel Top Grossing charts in 9 to 16 countries' App Stores every day. The charts look like it's taken off, but globally it has only one or two ratings. What's worth taking is how to build this 'content factory'. The results themselves aren't worth copying.

### No. 11 in one country, one global rating

In Nov 2026 2, Stanza reached #11 on the Russian App Store travel Top Grossing chart. The same week it hit #18 in Estonia and #30 in Finland, and it also appeared intermittently on charts in Poland, Italy, Austria, Spain, and Brazil (App Store travel Top Grossing charts in each store, 10-28 to 11-06).

But it has only 1 ratings in the Russian store, rated 2 stars; the US store has none, and its store page shows 'not enough ratings' (App Store, 11-06). Its Google Play installs are 500+.

Put those two sets of numbers side by side and the conclusion is blunt: this chart is easy to get onto. In Russia's Travel Top Grossing top 40 there are small utilities like bird-call and animal-call apps, and in the top 25 there's a currency converter. Stanza sells one guide in the Russian store for 85 rubles, about 1 USD. One or two buyers a day is enough to crack the top 50.

The rank trajectory tells the same story. Finland was 11-02 at #30, then 47, 56, 65, 74, dropping about 9 spots a day, and Estonia fell from 18 to 41 and then off the chart. A curve like that means someone bought one that day and nobody bought after. So "charted in a dozen countries at once" just reflects how many sights and languages it covers. Somewhere in the world, someone pays $1 every day. Judging from the rank pattern, its global paid orders per day are in the single digits (inferred).

### What it sells

Open the Colosseum guide in Rome and it has 29 stops. Stop one starts with the Arch of Constantine: "The structure in front of you is the Arch of Constantine, completed in 315 AD…" Stop three explains that the name "Colosseum" actually comes from a 30-meter bronze statue of Nero nearby. Each stop has a two-to-three-hundred-word script with a CC-licensed photo from Wikimedia Commons, and the attribution is printed under the image. The whole set is AI-written scripts with AI-synthesized narration (inferred, with high confidence, from the writing style, the image sourcing, and the pace of new releases).

The store listing catalog runs from the Giza pyramids and the Taj Mahal to the Acropolis, Chichen Itza, the Alhambra, and Angkor Wat. The official site says "1,248 guides, 110 countries, 15 languages," and Italy alone has 130 guides across 49 cities. The features are standard for this kind of app: GPS-triggered vibration alerts when you reach an outdoor landmark, offline download for listening, and a "digital passport" for exhibit recognition and stamp collecting.

Pricing has three tiers. Each guide offers the first two stops free, a single guide unlocks for $0.99–4.49, a whole-country pass costs $8.99–11.99, and there is an annual subscription (US App Store in-app purchase list, 11-06; I didn't see the annual price in the top rows).

### Where users come from: it turns each landmark into three things

No trace of it in paid ads: Meta and TikTok's public ad libraries show nothing. Nobody talks about it on TikTok, X, or Reddit. Its traffic comes from three places, and all three run on the same system.

**One landmark = one web page.** On the stanzapp.com sitemap, each language has 1,485 URLs, and across 15 languages that adds up to roughly 22k landing pages, all under the path "/guides/country/city/landmark". The Colosseum page publishes the full script for the first few stops, with a button underneath: "Download the free Stanza App." Some URLs contain garbled slugs (for example `nikk-t-sh-g` and `brazil/unknown`), which look like output from a batch script. People who search long-tail terms like "Colosseum audio guide" land on these pages.

**One landmark = one in-app purchase = one store keyword.** It has over a thousand in-app purchases, each named after a landmark, such as "Pompeii Archaeological Park Guide." App Store search indexes these names. The store title is translated separately for each storefront: "Аудиогиды для поездок" in Russian, "Audioguide di viaggio" in Italian, and "audioguides de voyage" in French.

**One update = one store event.** It announces new releases through App Store In-App Events, such as "PREMIERE: Machu Picchu & 548 New Guides." These events can show up in search results and on the Today tab.

The website also has a partnership page that tells museums "zero cost, remote production, no site visit needed" and offers to produce their multilingual guides, aiming for the official-recommendation route. Whether any deals have closed isn't visible from outside.

### Who it's competing with: this track is old and crowded

| Competitors | Launched | Scale | How it differs from Stanza |
|---|---|---|---|
| izi.TRAVEL | 2012 | Russia: 382 ratings, #6 on Russia's Travel Top Grossing | Made by museums and authors themselves, many free |
| VoiceMap | 2014 | US: 3,447 ratings | Walking routes recorded by local authors |
| GuideAlong / GyPSy Guide | From ¥2012 | 16k ratings | North American road trips and national parks, live narration |
| SmartGuide | 2009 | 1,005 ratings | City guides with maps, subscription, the closest format |
| Around Us | 2023 | France: 1,223 ratings | Also an AI multilingual location-based guide, already at a moderate scale |
| Routes: Audio Guides & Tours | 2024 | 602 ratings | AI-generated guides |
| TouringBee | 2018 | #24 on Russia's Travel Top Grossing | Per-landmark paid guides |

(App Store storefronts, 11-06)

There are two more layers below. The first is the old-school model of paid one-app-per-landmark guides from the past decade or more, such as official or semi-official guides for the Vatican Museums and the Alhambra. They have few ratings but stay on category charts year-round. The second is a batch of AI-guide apps that appeared in the past 2026 years, including Colosseum Tessera, WegSaga, Waltru, RoamWithMe, and Street Whisperer. Most cover a single city or landmark, with ratings from 0 to 8. This batch emerged at the same time as Stanza, and they all use the same "LLM script + speech synthesis" approach, so none of them is copying the others. Above them is the ceiling: GetYourGuide and Tripadvisor sell audio-guide tickets, and Google Maps and Gemini can answer questions about landmarks directly.

Stanza has one advantage: scale. One app, over a thousand landmarks, and 15 languages, including Russian, Polish, Arabic, Hindi, and Hebrew, which few others serve. But even with that scale, it doesn't stand out from its peers. There are no human voices, no brand, and no accumulated reviews. The 1 2-star ratings in the store are its entire trust signal.

### If it were you

**Grade C: worth learning from, not worth copying.** The playbook is clear, cheap, and anyone can set it up, but Stanza spent 1,248 landmarks to get single-digit daily orders at $1. The track has a decade of older players and a batch of same-era AI newcomers, with big-tech free features pressing down on it.

**Who it suits:** People who can do programmatic SEO and multilingual ASO, and want a side project where content costs almost nothing and grows slowly through long-tail search. Or people who already run travel content sites or landmark traffic and want guides as a monetization exit.

**Who it doesn't suit:** People who expect clear revenue within a few months. People who can't keep AI-written historical facts accurate, since the most common complaints about this kind of product are historical errors and synthetic voices that wear you out. And people who can build apps but not earn search traffic.

**How to do it:** Stop trying to cover "every landmark in the world." Someone already has, and the wider you spread, the thinner you get. Pick an angle it does poorly and go deep: one country or one language audience (for example, Chinese, Korean, or Arabic-speaking independent travelers in Europe), or one type of scenario (museum trips with kids, road routes, religious pilgrimage sites). Make the content accurate, the voice good, and build up reviews. Copy the structure directly: one landmark maps to one web page, one in-app purchase, and one store keyword, with the first two stops free and a country pass to lift order value.

**How to get users:** Search is the main battlefield, covering both Google long-tail queries and App Store search. Next come partnerships with landmarks and museums (it has asked on its website, though I haven't seen results), plus travel bloggers and "how to see X" content on Xiaohongshu and TikTok. Ship updates one to two months before peak travel season, and pair them with store events.

**When to start:** Before European peak season, meaning before April 2027 3. The catalog and pages need to be indexed in search by then. Google could crack down on bulk AI pages at any time, and the later you start, the less stable this traffic will be.

**What would show I'm wrong:** ① If Stanza's ratings climb to several hundred next summer and it starts appearing on overall charts, that would show "mass AI pages + SEO" really does work, just slowly, and I'm underrating it. ② Conversely, if its landing pages largely disappear from Google search, or most similar apps still have single-digit ratings a year from now, then this path doesn't even capture long-tail traffic. Stay away.

Where users come from

- **Verified** **programmatic SEO** : the stanzapp.com sitemap has 1,485 URLs per language × 15 languages ≈ 22k landmark landing pages. Brave site: search shows many landmark pages. Garbled slugs indicate batch-script generation.

- **Verified** **store search / localized ASO** : localized titles per storefront, 15 languages, and over a thousand in-app purchases named after landmarks act as long-tail keywords

- **Verified** **App Store In-App Events** : store-page events such as "PREMIERE: Machu Picchu & 548 New Guides" and "NOW AVAILABLE"

- **Verified** **low-barrier category top-grossing exposure** : Travel Top Grossing charted in 9–16 storefronts (appstore library), and the Russian store's top 40 includes small apps like bird-call tools

- Inferred **Museum/attraction B2B partnership** : stanzapp.com/partners offers zero-cost remote production of multilingual guides; whether it has launched is unknown

- Inferred **paid ads** : no records in the Meta or TikTok ad libraries (the libraries only track listed products, so ASA or Google UAC can't be ruled out)

## Stanza: Travel Audio Guides (ios_6762048535) research report

> Research date 2026-11-06. Regions checked: App Store library scanned across all regions (every one of the 24 stores where Stanza charted in `chart_rank`), with focus on ru / it / pl / es / fi / ee / us; Google Play page; official site and sitemap; Meta / TikTok ad libraries; X (x-radar), TikTok (TikHub), and Jina / Exa / Brave search.

### One line

Stanza is an AI-generated global landmark audio guide app from Centurix EOOD, a one-person Bulgarian company: 1,248 guides, 110 countries, 15 languages. The first two stops are free; single guides cost $0.99–4.49, country passes $8.99–11.99, plus an annual subscription. **It hasn't really broken out.** The recalled "charted in 9–16 countries' Travel Top Grossing" comes from an extremely low bar in the Travel category: one or two $1 single-guide purchases a day is enough to reach the top 50. Real scale is 1–3 iOS ratings worldwide and 500+ installs on Google Play. What's worth watching is the playbook (AI content factory + programmatic SEO + 15 languages of localization), not the results.

### 1. What the data actually shows

#### Charts (App Store library, Travel category Top Grossing chart 6003)

| Store | Rank trajectory (2026-10-28 → 11-06) | Read |
|---|---|---|
| ru | 16, 20, 32, 42, 27, **11** , 22, 34, 48, 25 | Best store; the Russian store's Travel top 40 includes low-effort utilities like "Манок на птицу (bird call)" and "Манок на зверя" |
| ee (Estonia) | 10-29 **18** → 29 → 33 → 39 → 41 → dropped off | Classic shape: one purchase, then daily decay |
| fi (Finland) | 11-02 **30** → 47 → 56 → 65 → 74 | Same: one purchase, then about 9 fewer people each day |
| at (Austria) | 101, 32, 66, 95, 46, 79, 107, 125, 144, 162 | Two small pulses (10-29, 11-01), then decay |
| pl | 152–177 → jumped to 11-06 → 37 | One purchase that day |
| it | 90–173 fluctuation, 11-06 to 50 | Same as above |
| es / br / fr / nl / de / mx / tw / cn / jp / pt / cl / ch / ca / au / no | Mostly between 50–190, on and off | Sporadic long-tail purchases |

Charted in 9–16 stores on any given day (data card daily_all_countries). This sawtooth-plus-linear-decay shape means this isn't sustained revenue, just echoes of sporadic single purchases on a low-bar category chart. Russian single-guide pricing is **85 ₽** (about $1 USD, per the Russian App Store page), and US pricing is $0.99–4.49.

#### Download proxies

- iOS ratings: 1–3 total worldwide, 7 new in the last 1 days (ru, 11-01; appstore library app_day). US: 0 ratings; the App Store page shows "not enough ratings."

- Google Play (com.stanza.app): **500+ installs** , 2026-10-28 updates (Play page, scraped 2026-11-06). Not in the googleplay library (never charted).

- Inference: total downloads in the hundreds to low thousands, with single-digit paying users per day.

#### Shipping cadence

- iOS launch 2026-08-28, reached 1.5.53 within two months (10-26), Play following from 1.5.21. Content drops are promoted through In-App Events ("PREMIERE: Machu Picchu & 548 New Guides").

### 2. Competitors

| Competitors | Platform | Launched | Scale (largest single-store rating count in the appstore library, etc.) | How it differs from Stanza |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| izi.TRAVEL | iOS/Android/web | 2012 | Russian store 382 ratings, #6 on the Russian Travel grossing chart; global UGC platform with tens of thousands of guides | Platform model; content uploaded by museums and authors, uneven quality, much of it free. Stanza makes its own content in a uniform style. |
| VoiceMap | iOS/Android | 2014 | US store 3,447 ratings, charted in 57 stores, best category rank #10 | Walking routes recorded by local authors with real voices. Stanza covers more ground and is organized by landmark, not route. |
| GuideAlong(GyPSy Guide) | iOS/Android | 2021(GyPSy 2012) | 16,336 rating | GPS guides for road trips and national parks, mainly North America, with human narration. Stanza focuses on European and Asian monuments. |
| SmartGuide | iOS/Android | 2009 | 1,005 ratings, charted in 83 storefronts | City guides plus maps, subscription-based. The closest match to Stanza (also multilingual, offline, GPS). |
| Rick Steves Audio Europe | iOS/Android | Long-established | Free | Free, celebrity-branded, mainly Europe |
| Around Us(Travel Maps) | iOS/Android | 2023 | France: 1,223 ratings | Also an AI multilingual guide that narrates by location, already at mid-level scale. The most direct competitor. |
| Routes: Audio Guides & Tours(Routes AI) | iOS | 2024 | 602 ratings, charted in 16 storefronts | AI-generated guides with a similar style |
| TouringBee | iOS/Android | 2018 | 164 ratings, Russian grossing #24 (right behind Stanza) | Landmark audio guides, paid per item |
| Single-landmark paid apps (Vatican Museums audioguide, Audioguía Alhambra, the Trishti "Full Guide" series, Andrey Suderevskiy's Russian-language city guides) | iOS | 2009–2021 | Each has a few to a few dozen ratings, but they sit permanently on paid and grossing charts | One app per landmark; Stanza bundles them into one app plus a pass |
| AI guides that appeared in the last 2026 years (Colosseum Tessera, WegSaga, Waltru, RoamWithMe, Listen Art, Street Whisperer, Nutu Eye, Matzu, etc.) | iOS | 2025-11 – 2026-10 | 0–8 ratings | Part of the same wave of "LLM writes the script + TTS" apps, mostly single-city or single-landmark. Stanza wins on catalog size and language count. |
| Big-company features | GetYourGuide and Tripadvisor sell audio guide tickets; Google Maps and Gemini can answer questions about landmarks directly | — | Hundreds of thousands of ratings | Free or bundled; this is the ceiling for products like Stanza |

Verdict: a crowded, mature category. There is no "no competitors" gap.

### 3. Growth tactics (where users come from)

1. **Programmatic SEO (confirmed)** : stanzapp.com's sitemap has 1,485 URLs per language × 15 languages ≈ 22k landing pages (/guides/<country>/<city>/<landmark>). Brave `site:stanzapp.com` turns up many landmark pages (Palace of Westminster, Castel dell'Ovo, Teatro Olimpico…), and each page pushes "Download the free Stanza App." Some slugs are garbled (`nikk-t-sh-g`, `s-catedral-de-vora`, `brazil/unknown`), which suggests scripted bulk generation.

2. **Store localization + search (confirmed)** : each store gets its own localized title (Russian "Аудиогиды для поездок," Italian "Audioguide di viaggio," French "audioguides de voyage"). 15 languages, and 1,000+ in-app purchase names include specific landmark names ("Pompeii Archaeological Park Guide"), which effectively seeds thousands of long-tail keywords for store search.

3. **App Store In-App Events (confirmed)** : content drops are promoted with "PREMIERE / NOW AVAILABLE" events, which can show up in search and on Today.

4. **B2B partnership page (exists, effect unverified)** : /partners offers museums multilingual guides made "at zero cost, remotely, without on-site visits," aiming for official landmark recommendation channels.

5. **Paid ads: none found.** The Meta ad library (app_link / ad tables, keyed by app id, package name, and domain) and the TikTok ad library have no records. The libraries only track products on the watchlist, so finding nothing doesn't mean nothing was run.

6. **Social/media: none.** X (x-radar, 90 days) returned 0 posts; a TikTok search for "stanza audio guide" finds no relevant videos; no Reddit or press coverage. Only auto-aggregator pages like apptopia, appbrain, and foxdata.

### 4. Why it was recalled (and why "breaking out" doesn't hold)

- The Travel Top Grossing chart has a very low bar in most stores: the Russian Travel top 25 includes a bird-call app and a currency converter (appstore library 2026-11-06). A 85 ₽ / $0.99 guide is enough to chart.

- Stanza spreads 1,248 landmarks × 15 languages, so someone somewhere buys a guide every day, which explains "charted in 9–16 countries at once." This is small scattered revenue from breadth, not a spike.

- 15k+ in-app purchase items also means revenue is extremely fragmented, so no single country can sustain it.

### 5. Differentiation

- **Catalog size × language count** : one app with 1,248 guides in 15 languages, organized by landmark rather than city walking routes. Compared with VoiceMap or GuideAlong's human-recorded routes, it uses AI scripts + TTS to reach a breadth others can't, especially for non-English listeners (Russian, Polish, Arabic, Hindi, Hebrew).

- **Small per-landmark unlocks + two free stops to try + country pass + annual subscription** : a smoother purchase path than single-landmark paid apps.

- Extras: GPS vibration alerts, exhibit recognition, offline packs, a "digital passport" stamp book.

- This differentiation is why it has scattered revenue across several countries, but it's not enough to break out. The content is generic (the same wave of AI tour apps is doing the same thing), and without real voices, brand, or review accumulation, the 1–3 ratings give no trust signal in the store.

### 6. Visibility

Almost nobody knows about it yet: no public revenue, no press, no discussion on X, TikTok, or Reddit. Only aggregator store pages.

### 7. Takeaways

- A "one site = one in-app purchase = one SEO landing page = one long-tail store keyword" content factory. LLM + TTS drive the marginal cost close to zero, then 15 languages multiply the reach.

- Uses the Travel category, a low-barrier chart, and simultaneous charting across countries for exposure. In-App Events promote new content drops.

- The first two stops are free to try, lowering the bar to pay. A national pass raises the ticket size.

- Risks: content accuracy (AI writing historical facts about landmarks) and TTS quality are the main sources of bad reviews. Google also penalizes bulk AI-generated pages for SEO.

### 8. Uncertain

- Real revenue and paid conversion (only inferable from chart patterns, roughly a handful of purchases a day). Annual subscription pricing wasn't visible in the first 10 items of the store page (unverified).

- Whether they run Google UAC / Apple Search Ads (ad libraries don't cover it, unverified).

- Whether museum partnerships went live, or whether landmarks send official referral traffic (unverified).

- Team background: Centurix EOOD is registered in Kableshkovo / Pomorie, Bulgaria (D&B). The developer account has only this one app, and the founder's identity was not found.
