> France publishes new rankings on the first Tuesday of each month, and players check them. The app shipped its update, sent push notifications, and posted share cards on the Nov 3 ranking day. Vertical media partnerships, creators posting referral codes, a search tools page, and a redirect from a competitor's site drove the traffic.

# French padel players check their ranking once a month, and a free app turned that day into a growth spike

**What it is** A free app for French amateur padel competitors: find open courts, see the tournament calendar and official rankings, then calculate points, predict next month's rank, and check whether you clear the registration cutoff.

**Why it took off** France publishes new rankings on the first Tuesday of each month, and players check them immediately. It shipped an update, push notifications, and share cards on the Nov 3 ranking day, then grew through vertical media partnerships, creator codes, search-friendly tool pages, and a pipeline from a shut-down competitor.

**B** **How you could follow it** Don't build another French padel app. Pick an amateur sport or country with official points rankings, complex rules, and monthly updates, then build "my ranking, next month's forecast, how many points this event is worth," and acquire users through ranking-day notifications and search traffic to web calculators.

Grade B: the playbook is clear and few people know about it, and it could be copied to another country or sport. But each market only has tens of thousands to a few hundred thousand competitors, revenue hasn't been proven, the data is controlled by an official body, and the ceiling is low. Chatter in small circles

Padel Now is a free app for French amateur padel competitors: tournaments, open courts, and official rankings in one place, plus a set of scoring tools. Its data all comes from public French federation sources, and plenty of similar products exist. It's ahead because it locked onto the once-a-month ranking release and invested in distribution. The audience is small and France-only. It's worth studying, and you could do the same in another country or sport, but the ceiling is low, and it hasn't earned a cent yet.

### A shut-down website and a Tuesday

Nov 3, 2026 was a Tuesday. The French federation (FFT) publishes amateur padel rankings on the first Tuesday of each month, and on that day competitors across France open their phones to see whether they moved up or down.

That same morning, PadelSimu, a small site that offered ranking simulators, swapped its homepage for a farewell page titled "Fin du Match" (end of the match): "PadelSimu is closing. Padel Now does the same thing, does it better, and it's free. Rather than reinvent the wheel, I'm passing the ball to it." Below that, a single button: "Go to Padel Now".

Also that day, Padel Now shipped version 1.0.19. The first line of the release notes: "On ranking day, open the app and see your new position right away; beat your personal best and it tells you." The second is a ranking card you can post as an Instagram Story, with your own avatar as the background and how many places you gained this month written on top.

It added 928 installs on Google Play that day. Over the next three days, iOS ratings grew by 14, 20, and 20, and the late-October days were mostly single digits.

### What it is

"Ten'Up Enhanced", made by a French company. Ten'Up is the official FFT app, with 88k ratings on iOS and 859k installs on Android (Google Play, 11-06). Players use it to check rankings and register for tournaments. But it only does the "check" part.

Padel Now reorganized the same public data and added the calculations players actually worry about:

- **Where to play** : 1,400 clubs across multiple venues, a map, and each venue's open court slots, filterable by date and time.

- **What tournaments to enter** : the FFT-certified tournament calendar (P25, P100, P250…), sorted by difficulty. No partner? Post a listing to find one, and state whether you play left or right side.

- **Where I rank** : official ranking, trend, friends and clubs you follow, with a push notification as soon as rankings update.

- **Calculators** : compute points from tournament level and finish position, simulate next month's ranking, work out whether your pair makes the CUT (when entries exceed capacity, the cut is drawn by combined points), test your level against the official 8 standards, and choose a racket.

- 100 free instructional videos.

The developer, PADEL NOW SAS, is based in Aix-en-Provence with registered capital of €50k. It launched on iOS on Aug 21 and on Android on Aug 24. It's completely free. The store page says "Coming soon: in-app court booking, finding partners to play with, Padel Now Academy".

### How big it is now

| Metric | Metric |
|---|---|
| iOS ratings, French store | 10-28 is 178, 11-06 is 261; +75 in the last 7 days, average 4.79 |
| Android installs | 10-29 is 5,167,11-06 is 6,989; +1,822 in 7 days |
| French Sports free chart (iOS) | Since 10-28 it has held between #12 and #24, best #11-03, now #12 |
| Releases | From 1.0.16 to 1.0.19 since late October, roughly one release a week |

(Ratings from the App Store, installs from Google Play)

Combined, installs are estimated at just over 10,000. On Nov 3, it ranked #12 on the French Sports free chart, Ten'Up ranked #16, and the court-booking platform Playtomic ranked #15. That shows two things: the French Sports free chart has a low bar, and a tool for a very precisely defined audience can climb quickly even on modest volume.

### Why it took off

**The demand already exists.** France is one of the few European countries that runs amateur padel as a league system: a national ranking, points earned in P25 through P2000 tournaments, only the best 12 results count, points expire, and rankings update on the first Tuesday of each month. The rules are complex and players care a lot about their position. Padel Magazine, one of France's biggest padel media outlets, described what ranking day looks like: as soon as the new ranking drops, everyone opens Ten'Up to find themselves, compares with last month, and refreshes repeatedly when the overall chart won't load. Padel Now says it covers over 20 million ranked players.

**It turned ranking day into its own release day.** The 11-03 wave lined up in time with ranking day, a new version, and push notifications. Causality can't be fully confirmed from the outside, but a ranking day comes around every month, so this hook can be used again and again.

**Channels were built one by one, each with its own tracking code:**

- **Vertical media** . On Oct 15, Padel Magazine's YouTube channel posted a Padel Now review that got only 135 views. On Oct 30, 4 days before ranking day, Padel Magazine published an article on "next month's ranking predictions" that linked to go.padel-now.co/padelmagazine at the end. The link has a dedicated tracking code, so it's most likely a commercial partnership (inferred).

- **Micro-influencers** . Padel creators on Instagram, Maxime Deloyer and "Holà Los Padelistos", posted "Download Padel Now" posts, each with its own short link (for example go.padel-now.co/md). Likes were in single digits, and the official account itself had only 223 followers. Each one is unremarkable on its own; the strength is in how systematically they were placed.

- **Search** . The official site, padel-now.co, has a range of web tools and guides. In November 6, searching the French store: "simulateur classement padel" (ranking simulator) ranked #2, with three more spots in the top 10; "calculateur points padel FFT" (points calculator) ranked #3; "tournoi padel près de chez moi" (padel tournament near me) ranked #2. Players run their numbers on the web and get nudged into installing the app.

- **Absorbing a competitor** . That's the PadelSimu move at the top. Whether it was an acquisition, a partnership, or the author simply stopping, it can't be told from outside.

**What I couldn't find** : no TikTok account or related videos; no discussion on X or Reddit. No ad-library spend turned up either, though not finding any doesn't mean none ran.

### What the people who stayed say

A 5-star review from Nov 3: "The best padel app in France! Everything in one app: good for finding tournaments, finding partners and coaches, comparing rackets, simulating points..."

A 1-star review from Oct 27: "Used private information and photos without permission. Wrong location for the tournament."

A comment on Instagram: "Another one scraping Ten'Up data. The day the official side shuts the API, Padel Now is gone too."

These reviews capture both its strength and its weakness: users want "everything in one place", and the risk is that the data isn't theirs.

### Who it's competing with

The lane is crowded, mostly sites and apps built by one or two people, all drawing on the same public FFT data.

| Product | Scale | Compared with alternatives |
|---|---|---|
| Ten'Up (official FFT) | iOS 88k ratings, Android 859k installs | The source of the data; handles registration and booking, but no points calculations, predictions, or partner-finding |
| Playtomic | iOS 5,600+ ratings, French store | Pan-European court-booking and game-matching platform, not touching FFT tournaments or rankings |
| Anybuddy | About 7,500 iOS ratings, French store | Racket-sports court-booking aggregator |
| Trouve Ton Padel | iOS 239 ratings, +29 in 7 days; Android 1,771 installs | Almost the same product, launched 2026 years ago in March by an indie developer, covering 500 clubs; Padel Now is growing about 2.5 times as fast |
| Padel Calendriers | iOS 87 ratings; Android 12.9k installs | Was building a tournament calendar plus rankings by the end of 2024, now mostly stalled (7 days +2 ratings) |
| Websites like monclassementpadel.fr and tournoispadel.fr | Unknown | Each built one or two tools and goes head-to-head in search results |

(App Store, Google Play, 11-06)

No competitor can't do what Padel Now does. It pulls ahead on three things: **completeness** (one app covers everything), **frequency** (a release a week, timed to ranking day), and **willingness to put in the work on channels** . None of these is a technical barrier. The real risk is external: the FFT tightens access to the data, or Ten'Up builds its own predictions.

### Where the money comes from

It hasn't collected a cent. Early terms of service mentioned a €9.99 monthly Premium plan, but the store now lists it as free. The roadmap includes court booking software, Academy coaching, and racket recommendations. Whether any of this will generate revenue, and how much, isn't public. The user base is capped too: by its own account, French ranked players number about 20 million.

### If it were you

**The takeaway** : don't build another one for French padel. The playbook is worth reusing: find an amateur program that has an official points ranking, complex rules, and monthly updates, then build a "calculate it for you" layer on top of the official app.

**Who it suits** : indie developers who play a particular amateur league, understand its rules, and can get public ranking data; people who know a country's language and community.

**Who it doesn't suit** : people aiming for a big user base or quick subscription revenue. One country's competitive players in one sport often number only tens of thousands to a few hundred thousand, so even a success is a small business. Also not for anyone who can't live with the risk of the data source being cut off by the official body.

**How to do it** : first, find out how often the target sport's official ranking updates, how complex the rules are, whether public data exists, and what calculations the official app is missing. Padel has national amateur ranking systems in Spain, Italy, Belgium, and Sweden; the US has DUPR for pickleball; bridge, chess, and amateur tennis also have points systems. The more complex the rules and the cruder the official app, the better the opportunity (whether similar tools already exist in each market, you'll need to check one by one). Version one should do three things only: my ranking, next month's prediction, and how many points this result is worth. Ranking-day notifications and shareable result cards should ship from day one.

**How to get users** : follow the same path. Build the web calculator first and target search terms like "ranking simulator" and "points calculator"; partner with local vertical media and micro-influencers, one dedicated short link each; then reach out to indie developers who run single small tools in the same niche and ask whether they'd send their traffic your way. Each month's ranking day is your launch day.

**When to move** : this kind of opportunity doesn't punish you for arriving late, but it does punish you if the official side moves first. Before you start, check whether the official app has recently added features like "predictions" or "simulations".

**What would show you misread it** : ① after ranking day passes, its daily installs fall back to single digits and don't spike again on the next ranking day (the first Tuesday of December), suggesting the hook isn't as strong as it looked; ② the FFT restricts data access or sends it a legal letter, showing the product was essentially borrowed; ③ ratings and installs slow sharply after Premium launches, suggesting this audience only wants free tools and the business can only rely on commissions from booking or product referrals.

| Revenue | No in-app purchases. Early CGU mentioned a 9.99 €/month Premium tier, but the store now lists it as "Gratuit" (free). | Apple lookup; actu-padel.com |

Scale is small: combined installs on both platforms are estimated at just over 10,000. But on the French Sports free chart it already sits in the same range as the official Ten'Up and Playtomic, showing that **the bar to chart in France's Sports category is low, and a precise niche can climb on a small volume** .

### 1. Why it took off

#### 1. The demand: a large group of French amateur players who check rankings on the first Tuesday of every month

- France is one of the few European countries where padel is organized as a league system: the FFT runs national rankings, and amateurs earn points in P25/P100/P250… tournaments, with new rankings published on **the first Tuesday of each month** . Padel Magazine describes the scene: "New rankings are out, everyone opens Ten'Up to find their spot, compare with last month, and keep refreshing because the overall chart hasn't updated" (padelmagazine.fr, 2026-10-30).

- Padel Now claims to cover 1,400 clubs, all FFT tournaments, and 200k+ player rankings (per its Instagram partnership post).

- The official Ten'Up (FFT; iOS 88k ratings, Android 859k installs) has everything, but it is only a lookup tool. **It doesn't calculate points, forecast next month's position, check whether you make the CUT, or find a partner to register with** , which are the calculations amateur players actually worry about. Padel Now fills exactly that gap.

#### 2. Growth timeline and triggers (with evidence)

- **10-30 Padel Magazine (one of France's largest padel media outlets) published an article on its "next month ranking forecast"** , ending with a tracking link go.padel-now.co/padelmagazine. 10-15 Padel Magazine's YouTube channel posted a Padel Now review video (135 views). Padel Magazine's directory also lists it under "software". A tracking code like this almost certainly means a paid or commercial partnership.

- **11-03 competitor PadelSimu shut down and its homepage sent users straight to Padel Now** ("Padel Now does the same thing, better, and for free"). This is a classic case of absorbing a small competitor's traffic. Whether money changed hands is unverified.

- **Instagram micro-influencer partnerships** : padel creators Maxime Deloyer and "Holà Los Padelistos" posted "download Padel Now" content, each with an exclusive link (go.padel-now.co/md etc.), with single-digit likes. Each post is small, but it shows a systematic push through small creators with tracking codes. The official @padel_now.co account has only 223 followers.

- **SEO** : padel-now.co has many tool pages and blog posts. On Brave (France), "simulateur classement padel" ranks #2 (and holds 6, 7, 9 as well), "calculateur points padel FFT" #3, "tournoi padel près de chez moi" #2, "classement padel FFT" #8. There are also Ten'Up usage guides and FFT registration guides. These web tools funnel search traffic into the app.

- **Press release** : 2025-10-03 ACCESS Newswire distributed an English PR (syndicated on Yahoo Finance). Its selling points then were partner matching and court booking, not the current product, so its effect on downloads was likely small.

- **Nothing found** : No TikTok account or related videos (a TikHub search for "padel now" only returned unrelated same-named courts in South Africa and Indonesia). No discussion on X (x-radar: 0 posts in the last 60 days). Nothing on Reddit. The ad libraries show no tracked ads (absence of results doesn't mean no ads ran).

#### 3. Why people stay

- **There's a real monthly reason to return** : rankings update monthly, and the points rules are complex (12 best results, expiring points, inflation coefficients). "Forecast next month's position" and ranking alerts are a natural hook that pulls users back every month.

- **Social bragging** : ranking share cards (Story/post format) get users posting to Instagram themselves, creating organic distribution.

- Reviews include "Best padel app in France, everything in one place: find tournaments, partners and coaches, compare rackets, simulate points…" (11-03,5 stars). There are also 1-star reviews saying "used my personal data and photos without permission, wrong tournament locations" (10-27). The data is scraped from official sources, and Instagram comments include people saying "they scrape Ten'Up again; the day they shut down the API, Padel Now is gone too."

#### 4. Where the money comes from

No revenue yet. The early public business plan mentioned a Premium tier at 9.99 €/month, club court-booking software, "Padel Now Academy" training, and racket recommendation affiliate sales. The store description mentions "coming soon: in-app court booking, find partners to play with, Academy". No public revenue data.

### II. Competitors

Many people run French padel tournament, ranking, and open-court aggregators. It's a **crowded niche** , mostly one- or two-person websites or apps, all relying on the FFT's public data:

| Competitors | Platform | Launched | Scale | How Padel Now is different |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ten'Up (official FFT) | iOS/Android | 2019-04 | iOS 88k ratings; Android 859k installs; #16 on French Sports free chart | Official source: sign-up, licensing, court booking. Does not do points calculations, ranking predictions, or partner matching. |
| Playtomic | iOS/Android | 2017-11 | iOS France store 5,600+ ratings, Sports #15 free | Pan-European court booking + matchmaking platform. Does not do FFT tournament/ranking tools. |
| Anybuddy | iOS/Android | 2016-11 | iOS France store 7,500 ratings | Racket-sport court booking aggregator. Does not do tournament rankings. |
| 4PADEL - Ça joue | iOS | 2026-04 (redo) | iOS 1,159 ratings, +7 in 57 days, Sports free #60–#99 | Chain club's own court-booking app |
| Trouve Ton Padel | iOS/Android + website | 2026-03 | iOS 239 ratings, 7 days +29; Android 1,771 installs | Nearly the same product (court availability + tournaments + simulator, 500 clubs), built by an indie developer. Padel Now lists more (1,400 clubs), has a fuller toolset, updates more often, and runs media/creator promotion. Its growth rate is about 2.5× theirs. |
| Padel Calendriers | iOS/Android | 2024-12 | iOS 87 ratings; Android 12.9k installs | An early indie app for tournament calendars + rankings. Growth has stalled now (+2 ratings in 7 days). |
| PISTA | iOS | 2025-11 | 44 rating | Matchmaking for partners |
| PadelSimu | Website | — | — | Ranking simulator. 2026-11-03 shut down its site and redirected users to Padel Now. |
| monclassementpadel.fr, classementpadelfrance.fr, padel-clash.fr, tournoispadel.fr, smatchup.fr, padelclub.app, Padel Magazine tournament directory, etc. | Web | — | Unknown | Each does one or two tools (ranking lookup / points calculator / tournament search) and competes head-on with Padel Now on SEO. |

Bottom line: none of them can do something the others can't. Padel Now's edge is **breadth** (one app for open courts, tournaments, rankings, a calculator, finding partners, and videos) + **frequent updates** (a new version every week) + **spending money and effort on distribution** .

### 3. What is the differentiator, and is it why it took off?

- The differentiator is "a one-stop toolbox for French competitive players": it turns Ten'Up's raw data into answers to players' anxieties (What rank will I be next month? How many points will this tournament get me? Can our pair make the CUT?). Add daily ranking-day push notifications and shareable cards, and you get a monthly return visit and organic sharing.

- That's one reason it outran similar apps (Trouve Ton Padel, Padel Calendriers), though not the only one. The feature sets are close. What really set it apart: **(1) it timed versions and push notifications to the monthly ranking day; (2) media partnerships (Padel Magazine) plus micro-influencers with referral codes and SEO tool pages; (3) it absorbed traffic from a competitor that shut down** . The product itself has no technical moat, and all its data comes from the FFT. The risk is that the official source tightens access, or Ten'Up adds prediction features itself.

### 4. How many people have noticed it?

Word of mouth in niche circles: French padel vertical media (Padel Magazine, actu-padel.com, padelbiz.it) have covered it. X, TikTok, Reddit, and indie developer communities have no discussion at all. Revenue is not public (it has never charged anyway). Copycats: the category already has many early movers, so "copying it" doesn't yet apply. Trouve Ton Padel's features overlap heavily with it, but it launched earlier (2026-03), so it can't be called a copycat.

### 5. What's worth borrowing

1. **Find a recreational sport with an official ranking or points system** (padel, tennis, pickleball, bridge, chess, running points races, etc.), and build "calculator + prediction + reminders" on top of the official app. The official app only handles lookups; nobody does the anxiety-driven calculations.

2. **Treat the official publication day as a growth node** : push notifications on ranking day + a release that day + shareable result cards, creating a monthly automatic round of acquisition and re-engagement.

3. **Build an SEO funnel from web tool pages** (simulator, points calculator, ranking pages), and funnel search traffic into the app.

4. **Paid articles in vertical media + micro-influencers with referral codes** , tracking each channel with dedicated short links (go.domain/code).

5. **Absorb small competitors** : persuade indie developers of small similar tools to shut down and redirect users.

### 6. Still uncertain

- How much of the +20 daily ratings since 11-04 come from ranking days versus in-app review prompts (4.79 average rating is high, which suggests a rating prompt) can't be separated.

- Whether Padel Magazine and influencer partnerships were paid, and how much, is unverified. Whether it runs Meta/Google ads is unknown; our ad library doesn't track it.

- Whether the PadelSimu redirect was an acquisition, a partnership, or the developer's own decision to shut down is unverified.

- Data-sourcing compliance: the content is based on scraped FFT/Ten'Up data, and users have complained about personal information and photos being used. The FFT's stance is unknown.

- Retention and monetization: it's free for now, and whether Premium, court booking, or Academy will bring in money is completely unknown. The ceiling is also limited by the size of the French competitive player base (the app claims 200k+ ranked players).
