0 ratings push it to #5 on the Top Grossing chart: the Pakistani "AI bookkeeper" hasn't actually taken off yet
What it is A bookkeeping app from a Pakistani wholesale platform: the shop owner says one sentence or types a line in local colloquial, and AI records the credit sales, cash, stock, and invoices automatically. It also works inside WhatsApp.
Why it went viral It didn't. Pakistan's iOS finance Top Grossing chart has a very low bar: 8 of the top 30 are 0 apps with no ratings. This one has a high subscription price, so a few payments pushed it to #5.
DHow you could follow it Don't charge South Asian shopkeepers $9 a subscription. Copy its interaction of "one spoken sentence split into several entries + a WhatsApp entry point" into local credit-ledger markets where free incumbents haven't taken the space, priced low or free, ideally built by someone who already has merchants.

Alahdeen Khata lets Pakistani shop owners say a sentence in Roman Urdu, and AI splits it into three entries: sales, credit, and stock. It costs Rs 2,500 (about $9) a month. In Nov 5 it reached #5 on Pakistan's iOS finance Top Grossing chart, yet it has zero ratings worldwide, and the Android version has only about 3,500 installs after seven months. That rank reflects the chart's low bar, not proof it's taking off. The product idea is sound, but India and Pakistan already have a group of players on this path.
One sentence, three entries
Its website's first screen shows a simulated chat. The shop owner types:
Gave Ahmed 5000 on credit, and sold 3 milk for 150
The AI replies "Done 👍 here's what I recorded" and lists three lines: sold 3 bottles of milk +Rs 450; Ahmed's credit receivable +Rs 5,000; milk stock −3. At the bottom is a button: "✓ Confirm — all correct".
That's the whole product pitch. In traditional shops, the person who keeps the books is called a munshi, an accountant, and this app calls itself "your shop's AI munshi". It doesn't make you tap menus, pick categories, or enter amounts. When your hands are busy, you hold to speak; you can also photograph a receipt for it to read. The website has a WhatsApp entry too: send "sold 5 bags to Ali, 1200 each" like messaging a friend, and it records the sale, issues an invoice, and can send the invoice to Ali.
It's built by WAWA.PK in Karachi; the parent company Alahdeen is a B2B platform connecting wholesalers and retailers. The Android version launched first in Apr 7 of year 2026, the iOS version only in Jul 30, and by Nov 2 it reached v2.1.2, adding GST tax, returns, and product variants.
Pricing: "the cost of a daily cup of tea"
The site says "keep your AI accountant for the price of a daily cup of tea". There is only one paid tier: Rs 2,250 a month (list price 2,500), or Rs 22,500 a year. New users get a free trial; once it ends, the ledger becomes read-only and you can't add entries. No refunds. Pakistani users can pay via Easypaisa, JazzCash, or bank transfer, with manual review and activation within two business days. Bangladesh is currently free for a limited time.
That price isn't cheap in Pakistan. BolKhata, which does the same thing in India, costs ₹199 a month (about $2.3), a quarter of this price; Pakistan's two biggest credit ledgers, DigiKhata and Easy Khata, offer their core features for free.
The "ledger goes read-only after the trial, data not deleted" move is worth remembering. A ledger is something you grow more dependent on; with three months of credit records inside, few people want to start a new one.
How much it actually sold: not much
| What to look at | Metric |

#5 looks impressive, so check who else is on the same chart. In Nov 6, among the top 30 on Pakistan's iOS finance Top Grossing chart, 8 apps had zero ratings, at #1, #3, and #4. The most-rated app in the top 30 was TradingView, with 14,738 ratings. Few people in Pakistan use iPhones, and even fewer pay for finance apps, so a single $9 subscription is enough to push an app into the top 20.
The UAE pattern has the same shape: charting is the peak, and it slides a little more each day. It looks like one or two payments, possibly from Pakistanis in the Gulf, or possibly the team's own test purchases (inference), and nothing followed. That it charted only on the grossing chart and never on the free chart also makes sense: few downloads, but each purchase is large.
Where users come from
What's visible is all small:
- Self-produced content. A run of Roman Urdu posters and short videos on Instagram with the slogan "Hisaab likhein nahi, bas bol dein" (no need to write the accounts, just say them), posted almost daily from Nov 2 to 5; a separate Bengali account too. On LinkedIn, a content writer says they handle its content.
- Parent company traffic. The same developer account also runs Alahdeen B2B and Alahdeen Seller, but these two have only about 3,500 and 1,700 installs on Android, too few to drive meaningful volume.
- Paid acquisition. No evidence of large-scale ad spend. Even if they did spend, 3,500 installs suggests it wasn't much.
- TikTok, X, press coverage: none found.
Who it's competing with
The credit-ledger category was already saturated by VC money in India and Pakistan over 2019 to 2021 years, and most leaders are free:
| Product | Scale | Compared with Alahdeen Khata |
|---|---|---|
| Khatabook (India) | Google Play 100M+ installs | Free, tap-form bookkeeping, earns from financial services |
| Easy Khata (Pakistan, Bazaar) | Google Play 7.7M installs | A bookkeeping app from a wholesale platform too, same playbook, 5 years earlier, free |
| DigiKhata (Pakistan) | Google Play 7.33M installs, iOS Pakistan 799 ratings | "Pakistan's No.1" free credit ledger with payments, no spoken entry |
| Vyapar (India) | Google Play 16.9M installs | A paid tool with full invoicing and GST, form-based interface |
| VoiceKhata (India) | Google Play 98k installs | Voice + AI invoicing, nearly identical to it, with about 30 times its installs |
| BolKhata (India) | Not disclosed | WhatsApp voice bookkeeping, ₹199/month |
| HisabPro (India) | Google Play 15k installs | AI credit ledgers |
"Say one sentence to log it" is a new layer that appeared on top of old credit ledgers over 2025 to 2026 years. In Pakistan, Alahdeen was relatively early to turn it into a full app; on GitHub there are also prototypes by Pakistani developers doing WhatsApp Roman Urdu voice bookkeeping. Alahdeen's differences are real: more languages (Roman Urdu, Bengali, Arabic) and fuller features (invoices, delivery notes, GST, multiple stores). But it hasn't yet won many users with them.
If it were you
D: spot a false signal; the product idea can be noted, but copying it isn't recommended. Its chart rank came from a low-bar grossing chart, with no evidence that shop owners will pay $9 a month for AI bookkeeping. The same hook already has VoiceKhata, BolKhata, and HisabPro in India; in Pakistan you'd be trying to charge against two established, free credit ledgers with over 7 million installs each.
Who it suits: people who already have a base of small merchants, such as wholesale, payment, or procurement platforms, who can treat bookkeeping as a tool for keeping merchants and earn money from payments, procurement, and loans.
Not for: anyone who wants to build a standalone "AI bookkeeping app" and sell subscriptions to South Asian shop owners. Also not for teams without local field sales or local-language ops.
How to do it: copy the interaction, not the monetization. "Say one sentence → split into several entries → user taps confirm," plus a WhatsApp entry point, is the right fit for shop owners who are busy and hate forms. If you go this route, pick a local-language ticket-book market where the free leaders haven't locked up search yet (inference: check the top results for "khata / udhaar" in Indonesia, Nigeria, Egypt, Bangladesh). Price near BolKhata's tier, or go free and only charge for multi-store and staff permissions.
How to get users: these users don't search the App Store, they live in WhatsApp groups, wholesale markets and with their suppliers. The fastest route is a partner who already works with small shops every day (a wholesaler, or an FMCG sales rep) to get them installed. Next best: local-language short video that shows the "say one sentence, the ledger is done" moment.
When it closes: the big players can add this layer anytime. Once Khatabook or DigiKhata plugs a voice + LLM input box into their app, you only have price left to compete on (inference: within a year).
What would show this read is wrong: (1) over the next month or two, Alahdeen Khata builds reviews on iOS Pakistan and Android installs climb into the tens of thousands, which would mean real shop owners will pay a premium for AI bookkeeping, and then it's worth looking at again; (2) DigiKhata or Easy Khata launches free voice bookkeeping first, which would mean this path only belongs to platforms that already own the merchants.

Alahdeen Khata (iOS 6763234255) research report
Regions checked: the appstore library scanned all 115 stores. The app has only appeared on the Finance Top Grossing charts in ae (UAE) and pk (Pakistan). Also checked: the Google Play page, the website, social media and competitors. Date: 2026-11-06.
Bottom line
It hasn't actually taken off. The bar for charting on Pakistan's iOS Finance Top Grossing is so low that an app with 0 ratings can make it: on the same day, the #1, #3 and #4 apps on pk Finance Top Grossing were also all rated 0. It sells a subscription at Rs 2,500/month (about $9), so a few sales (likely the team's own or friends' trial purchases) is enough to reach #5. The Android version launched in April and has about 3,500 installs so far, Instagram has 69 followers, and there is no sign of large-scale paid acquisition. The product hook is clear: an "AI bookkeeper" where you speak one sentence in romanized Urdu to record it, plus a WhatsApp entry point. But a group of people in India and Pakistan has been building this hook for 2026 years.
1. What it is
- Developer: WAWA.PK (PRIVATE) LIMITED, DHA, Karachi. Parent company is Alahdeen, Pakistan's B2B wholesale platform, which matches wholesalers with retailers (alahdeen.com, and on Play, Alahdeen B2B / Alahdeen Seller).
- Product: an AI bookkeeper for small shop owners (munshi is the old-school shop accountant). The user says or types one line like "Gave Ahmed 5000 on credit, sold 3 bottles of milk 150," and it splits that into three records (sale, credit and inventory) for the user to confirm. It can also read receipts from photos. Other features include udhaar (credit) accounts, a cash book, inventory, invoices, delivery notes (challan), GST tax, multiple stores, staff permissions, cloud backup, PDF reports, and a WhatsApp bot entry point. The website says it supports 17 languages (the App Store lists 16).
- Pricing: on the website, Pro is Rs 2,250/month (originally 2,500) or Rs 22,500/year (originally 25,000). The App Store in-app purchase is "Monthly Plan Rs 2,500." New users get a free trial. After it ends, the ledger is read-only and you can no longer add entries. No refunds. Pakistani users can also pay via Easypaisa, JazzCash or bank transfer, with manual review and activation within up to 2 business days. Free for a limited time in Bangladesh. (Sources: alahdeen.com/khata/pricing, App Store pk page, 2026-11-06 read)
- Versions: iOS 2026-07-30 launched first, current v2.1.2 (11-02). This release adds GST, returns, product specs, inventory photos and more. The Android version (com.alahdeen.aimunshikhata) launched 2026-04-07, almost 4 months before iOS, and 10-24 is still being updated.
2. Data: how much did it actually "take off"?
| Metric | Value | Source |
|---|---|---|
| iOS ratings | 0 (all stores). The App Store page shows "insufficient ratings." | appstore library 10-31 to 11-06; App Store pk page |

How low the bar for Top Grossing is: In 2026-11-06 Finance's top 30 Top Grossing, #1 is Breakout (prop firm), #3 Barebone, #4 TIC, #17 Balance, and #23, #26, #28, #29 are all 0 ratings. The most common rating in the top 30 is TradingView, with 14,738 entries (appstore database). Pakistan has few iOS users and finance apps see little paid spending, so a single $9 subscription is enough to push an app into the top 20. The UAE section has the same shape: after charting, the app drops a little more each day, which looks like one or two payments with nothing following them.
Conclusion: the recall card's claim of "revenue-side signals" doesn't hold. Chart position reflects a very small number of payments, not real revenue at scale. The recall card's guess of "subscription paywall + paid acquisition pushing it up the chart" also found no evidence of paid acquisition (see section 4).

| VoiceKhata | Android (India) | Not verified | Play 98k installs | "India's first voice + AI invoicing app", nearly the same wedge as it, roughly 30 times its size |
| HisabPro: AI Udhar Khata | Android (India) | Not verified | Play 15k installs | AI credit ledgers |
| BolKhata | WhatsApp (India) | Not verified | Unknown | WhatsApp voice bookkeeping, ₹199/mo (about $2.3), priced at 1/4 of it |
| Udharbook AI-Ledger Khata Book | iOS | 2026-05-25 | 0 rating | AI udhaar ledgers from the same period |
| AI_voice_khata(tashfeen786) | Open source GitHub | 2026 | Small | A WhatsApp Roman Urdu voice bookkeeping prototype built by a Pakistani developer |
| Big-company features | ChatGPT / Gemini voice + spreadsheets | — | — | In theory it can substitute, but it has no credit reminders, invoices, or other shop workflows |
Take: The digital udhaar ledger is a category VCs ran through in India and Pakistan over 2019–2021 years, and the leaders are all free. "AI voice bookkeeping" is a newer layer from 2025–2026, and India already has VoiceKhata, BolKhata and HisabPro. In Pakistan, Alahdeen was one of the earlier teams to turn LLM bookkeeping into a full app, but a solo developer's WhatsApp prototype and Khata AI's Instagram promotion are doing the same thing.
4. Growth tactics: where users come from
| Channel | Evidence | Confirmed? |
|---|---|---|
| Owned social content (Instagram / Facebook, Roman Urdu + Bengali) | IG @alahdeenkhata has a run of reels ("Hisaab likhein nahi, bas bol dein" and similar); a separate Bengali account @alahdeenkhata.bd was opened; FB page 61594624892607; a content writer on LinkedIn says they handle Alahdeen Khata content | Confirmed, but very small (IG 69 followers) |
| Cross-promotion from the parent Alahdeen B2B | One developer account lists three apps: B2B / Seller / Khata; but B2B itself has only about 3,500 installs | Channels exist, but the parent is too small to drive volume |
| Paid acquisition (Meta) | The metaads library doesn't track it, and the FB ad library page can't be scraped; IG posts carry "Upgrade to Pro" promo language, so they may have run ads | Unconfirmed; the Android 3,515-install listing suggests they may have spent, but volume is tiny |
| Regional free trials / discounts | The website says "free for a limited time" for Bangladesh and lists 60 countries | Confirmed (a signal of intent, no visible results) |
| Store search / SEO | The website's titles and descriptions use "Digital Hisab Kitab", "udhaar" and "khata"; Google search for "Alahdeen Khata" returns pages from the website | Set up, no visible results |
| TikTok / X / media | A TikHub search for "alahdeen khata" returned no relevant videos; x-radar 90 days, 0 posts; no media coverage found | Confirmed none |
5. Why it got recalled / why it "looks" like it's breaking out
- The iOS Finance Top Grossing bar in Pakistan and the UAE is extremely low: among the top 30 on that chart, 8 are 0-rated apps, so a few Rs 2,500 subscriptions can push it to #5 (appstore library 11-05/11-06).
- The subscription price is high for Pakistan (about $8–9/mo, 4 times India's BolKhata at ₹199), so each sale is large and pushing Top Grossing is easier; this also explains why it charts only on Top Grossing and not Top Free.
- The UAE stretch (#59 on 10-31) looks more like single payments from Pakistani expats in the Gulf, or possibly the team's own test purchases (inference).
6. Differentiation
- Versus traditional khata apps (DigiKhata, Easy Khata, Khatabook): Instead of filling out forms, you say one sentence in Roman Urdu, the LLM splits it into sales, udhaar and inventory entries, and you confirm. There's also a WhatsApp bot, so you can log without opening the app. Keeping cash and profit separate is also a selling point. This difference is real.
- Versus the newer AI voice bookkeeping players (VoiceKhata, BolKhata, HisabPro): It adds Roman Urdu, Arabic and Bengali, covering Pakistan, the Gulf and Bangladesh, and its feature set is broader (invoices, delivery notes, GST, multiple shops). But it costs a lot more, and it doesn't have those rivals' distribution.
- This difference is not why it "broke out", because it hasn't broken out. Its current chart rank comes from the low bar on Top Grossing, not from product reputation: 0 reviews, 0 rating, 3.5k Android installs.
7. What to borrow
- The interaction (say it in local speech, LLM splits it into several entries), plus a WhatsApp entry point, is the right wedge for shop owners with low literacy who are too busy to type forms. It's cheap to copy, and the same setup could be swapped into Bengali, Hindi, Arabic, Indonesian and other language markets.
- The pricing (capped AI cost + one paid tier) and the lock-in (the ledger goes read-only when the trial ends, without deleting data) are worth borrowing, since ledger data carries strong switching costs.
- When borrowing, read it the other way around: in markets where free udhaar ledgers are already common, charging $8/mo on AI alone struggles to gain traction. What's more workable is what Bazaar / Easy Khata do: treat bookkeeping as a traffic entry point and earn from wholesale, payments and loans; or cut prices to the BolKhata tier.
- iOS Top Grossing charts in South Asia and Gulf storefronts are nearly empty, so before reading revenue signals from them, check the bar on that chart first.
8. Still unclear
- Whether they ran Meta ads and how much (our metaads library doesn't track it, and the FB ad library page can't be scraped).
- How many paying users there really are; whether the ae and pk chart placements are the team's own test purchases.
- WhatsApp bot usage (this part doesn't go through app stores and could be the real main entry point, but there's no data).
- Whether the parent Alahdeen B2B's offline sales force (if any) is pushing Khata on the ground. There is no online evidence.
