A cash-loan shell on iOS in Mexico: five-star reviews say "still waiting," one-star reviews say it threatens to build group chats with your photos
What it is An online small-loan app on the Mexican App Store, operated under a Chihuahua SOFOM, promoting unsecured loans with fast payout.
Why it's up An old brand that had circulated for over a year was pulled and relaunched under a new ID. The name stuffs in keywords for search, the application flow prompts five-star ratings to push the score to 4.8, and it holds around #140 in the very low-bar Finance category.
EWhat you can take from it Don't copy this business. The only thing to borrow is the store playbook: in a low-competition Mexican Finance category, use a keyword-rich name and prompt ratings at the right moment to build a legitimate personal finance tool, such as a checker for whether a lending app is licensed, or repayment reminders.

Somos Crédito Sep 6 launched on the Mexican App Store. In two months it collected 3,500 ratings at 4.8 stars and ranked #130 to #142 in the free Finance chart. It looks like it's gaining traction, but it's one of dozens of same-template cash-loan apps, and it's slow among them. Its traction comes from an old brand that circulated for over a year, a borrowed lending license, and a store playbook. The product itself has nothing to learn from.
Nov 3 reviews
On Nov 3, Somos Crédito received 7 reviews on the Mexican App Store: 6 five-star, 1 four-star. The text says things like "Ok," "Buena app," "Si," ".", and one with both title and body reading "En espera" (still waiting). Five-star reviews from earlier weeks include "espero que me la den" (I hope they approve me), "Ojala lo den" (hopefully they lend it), and "Es la prime ves que lo solicito no se si me lo den" (first time applying, not sure they'll approve).
In other words, many people gave five stars before they had received any money.
Two days ago, on Nov 1, a one-star review sat among the five-stars, titled "ESTAFA" (scam): "Don't download this app. It steals your info and harasses you, calling aggressively the day before the due date, and emailing threats that it will build a group in my contacts with my photos and information." (App Store Mexico reviews, 10-13 to 11-04)
Put these two kinds of reviews together and you have most of the business.
What it is
A Mexican online small-loan app. The store description says "no collateral, zero paperwork, no hidden fees, funds in 24 hours," and the name is stuffed with keywords: "Somos Crédito Préstamo enlínea." The developer is Alderiva de México, a SOFOM E.N.R. (a Mexican non-bank lender that doesn't take deposits) registered in Chihuahua, which has only this one app. Its website describes payroll loans and ordinary personal loans, while a third-party directory says it mainly does debt purchasing and collections.
One detail: the app's bundle ID is com.moneymenprestamos.moneymex, which doesn't match "Somos Crédito". It looks like it was modified directly from another shell project (inference).

7 new ratings in 104 days, with the last two days doubling. It's only in Mexico, not in the overall chart, and not in the grossing chart. Given the "five stars before any money" pattern above, rating counts are inflated and shouldn't be read as download numbers.
Looking at peers makes it clearer. In the 11-06 Mexico free Finance top 200, there are 60+ cash-loan apps with préstamo, crédito or dinero in the name. Most launched within the last 2025 to 2026 years, each with a single-app SOFOM entity and the same description copy. Some that launched around the same time:
| App | Launched | Ratings / new in 7 days (11-06) | Best Finance Top Free rank |

| MexDinero | 2026-08-16 | 14,085 / 1,461 | 30 |
| Taco Préstamos | 2026-08-27 | 9,313 / 725 | 47 |
| Somos Crédito | 2026-09-06 | 3,500 / 104 | 130–142 |

| MoneyMex | 2026-10-28 | 738 / 730 | 27 |
App Store Mexico, 11-06.
Peers launched around the same time grew 7 to 14 times faster; Préstala, which launched in Oct 1, is already bigger. MoneyMex is another new shell from a SOFOM launched in Oct 28, and its name happens to match Somos Crédito's bundle ID.
The brand is older than this app
"Somos Crédito" didn't start in September.
- In Aug 2025 4, the credit card comparison account Kardmatch posted "¿Somos Crédito es legal?" (Is Somos Crédito legit?) on TikTok, with about 246k views.
- In Nov 2025 21, the creator Josué G posted "Somos Crédito: App de PRÉSTAMOS NO REGULADA" (an unregulated loan app) on YouTube and TikTok, tagged #PrestamosAppStore #PrestamosIphone.
- In June 2026, in a Facebook group called "financieras estafas" (lender scams), someone asked "somos credito, is that the one on iOS?" Replies said several financieras lend through it, and the threatening WhatsApp collection messages came from Colombian numbers. In June 23, in another debtors' support group, someone said they got hit with 760 pesos without ever applying and were now being asked for 1,800.
- On Aug 28, 2026, a Spanish-language site that checks whether lending apps are legit wrote that Somos Crédito "is plastered all over Mexican social media," but its entity can't be found in the regulator's financial services provider registry (SIPRES).
All of this predates the current app's listing date. The likely reading: the earlier iOS version was pulled, September got a new ID and relisted it under the SOFOM Alderiva (inference; the old ID wasn't found). "An old SOFOM hosting a strange brand" fits the common pattern of renting a license for a listing like this, but there's no direct evidence it's rented.
Where users come from and where the money comes from
Users come in through four main paths:
- Store search. The name and description repeat "préstamo en línea," and it has sat around #140 in the Mexico iOS Finance category chart. The bar there is low: at #140 or so, it takes only 10 to 30 new ratings a day.
- Old brand. People were searching "Somos Crédito" over a year ago. After the relisting under a new ID, those searches still land.
- Ratings pushed at key steps. One- or two-word five-star reviews, five-star reviews saying "still waiting," and long one-star complaints don't match, which suggests a rating prompt appears at the application or disbursement step (inference, likely).
- Social ads. The Spanish-language site says they're everywhere; I couldn't find it in the public ad libraries I can check. Not finding it doesn't mean it wasn't run (unverified).
Also, some users say "several" lenders show up inside the app, which looks like a loan marketplace where the products cross-promote each other (unverified).
The money comes from high-interest short-term loans. The Spanish-language site's account: the ads say "91 to 120 days," but the loan is due on day 7 or 15; you borrow 1,500 pesos and after a "fee" receive 950; the annualized all-in cost may exceed 500% (estimate, single source). Repayment is enforced through collections, which is what the one-star review describes: at install it asks for contacts and photo album access, it calls the day before the due date, and it threatens to send photos to your contacts. The Alderiva website's privacy policy does list facial recognition, emergency contacts, and bank account data as collected fields.
Revenue and loan volume aren't visible from outside.
Who it's competing with
Apart from the template shells like this one, Mexico's legitimate digital lenders are orders of magnitude bigger: Kueski (#22 in Finance free chart), Baubap (#25), plus the lending features inside Nu, Stori, Klar, DiDi Finanzas, and Mercado Pago, which sit in the top 20. They serve people with bank accounts and credit histories. Somos Crédito-style shells feed on the rest: people without credit history, short on cash, who search "préstamo" straight in the App Store.
No one is specifically copying it, because the model itself is an industry mass-producing clones, with new shells launching every week.
If it were you
Verdict: don't follow. This isn't a product that took off. It's a cash-loan business sustained by rented licenses, ID swaps, prompted reviews, and harassment-style collections, and it's the slow one in its own cohort.
Who it fits: there's no version of this for indie developers or small teams. Doing it for real requires a lending license, funding for disbursements, risk controls, and a collections team. Writing an app doesn't solve any of that.
Who it doesn't fit: anyone trying to earn from an app. Copy it and you'll compete for the same search terms as 60 other clones of the same template, while carrying regulatory penalty and App Store removal risk. Mexico has been cracking down on lending apps that use contacts for collections.
What to take away: the Mexico iOS Finance chart has a low bar. Twenty to thirty new ratings a day can hold you around #140. Stacking search terms in the name and prompting for ratings at key moments works in any low-competition category. If you're building a legitimate personal finance tool for Mexico or Latin America (budgeting, rate comparison, repayment reminders, checking whether a lending app is legal), the store tactics are reusable, and the users scared off by these collections are themselves the demand.
What would mean I got it wrong: if Somos Crédito or a cohort shell hit the Mexico overall or Top Grossing chart in the first half of 2027 and wasn't pulled, the market is bigger and safer than it looks. Or one of them gets real funding and rebrands as a licensed brand, the way Kueski and Baubap did.

Why Somos Crédito Préstamo enlínea (iOS id 6771705963) shows up in the charts
In short: it isn't a product that took off. It's a mid-tier sample from a large batch of cloned cash-loan apps on Mexico iOS, built on SOFOM licenses and one shared template. Its growth comes from relisting the "Somos Crédito" brand under a new ID on iOS, borrowed licenses, prompted reviews, and the standard acquisition playbook for cash loans, not from any product differentiation.

2. Competitors: dozens doing the same thing, and most are bigger
In Mexico's Finance free top 2026-11-06 200, there are 60+ cash-loan apps with préstamo/crédito/dinero in the title. Most are new SOFOM E.N.R. entities from the last 2025–2026 years, single-app developers, with the same description boilerplate. Ranked by rating count among Mexican cash-loan apps launched after 2025-06 in the library, it lands around #27 (appstore library app_profile, mx, 2026-11-06):

Legitimate players: Kueski (#22), Baubap (#25), and the lending features of Stori, Klar, Nu, DiDi Finanzas, and Mercado Pago are all orders of magnitude bigger.
Verdict: Over the same period, the lookalike apps MexDinero, Taco and Préstala grew 7–14 times as fast as this one. It's mid-to-weak within this batch, and the "27/28 a day" in the recall doesn't stand out next to its peers.
3. What it actually is: the "Somos Crédito" brand, re-listed under a new App ID, plus a borrowed license
- The brand is older than this App ID. 2025-08-04 Kardmatch posted "¿Somos Crédito es legal?" on TikTok (about 246k views, TikHub); 2025-11-21 YouTube/TikTok creator Josué G posted "Somos Crédito: App de PRÉSTAMOS NO REGULADA" tagged #PrestamosAppStore #PrestamosIphone (about 18.6k TikTok views); 2026-06 in the Facebook group "financieras estafas" someone asked "somos credito, es de iOS", and commenters said several financieras lend through it, with collection threats sent over WhatsApp from Colombian numbers. All of this predates the 2026-09-06 launch date, which suggests an earlier iOS version was delisted and this one was re-listed under a new ID. Our long-tail catalog has no record of the old ID (inference: the old ID was delisted before the catalog started collecting it).
- Borrowed license. 2026-08-28 esconfiablelegal.com says SIPRES cannot find Somos Crédito as a registered entity; after re-listing, it's attributed to Alderiva de México SOFOM E.N.R. That is an older SOFOM from the state of Chihuahua. Its website describes "Crédito Simple / Crédito de Nómina", and third-party directories say it does debt management (buying and collecting debt) (sofomes.com, superpromise.mx). Its privacy policy lists collection of facial recognition, contacts (emergency contacts) and CLABE bank account data. "An old SOFOM putting an unfamiliar brand's app on the store" matches how license-renting listings usually work (inference; no direct evidence that it is rented).
- User reviews. The recent reviews on the App Store MX page (2026-11-06 scrape) are mostly one- or two-word five-star posts like "Ok", "Buena app", "Y / Si", "Recomendado 100/100 app legal", interspersed with long one-star reviews: "abusive and threatening collection, too many permissions, messages sent from different numbers", "threatening to make a group with my photos in my contacts". In the Facebook group "Defensa del Deudor" 2026-06-23, someone said they were charged 760 pesos they never applied for, and are now being asked for 1,800.
4. Growth tactics (where users come from)
- App Store search / category charts: the name stuffs keywords, "Crédito Préstamo enlínea", and the description repeats "préstamo en línea". It has stayed in the Finance free category chart at roughly #130–142, picking up some search and chart traffic (confirmed: name and description; traffic share not verified).
- Brand reuse + re-listing: it carries over the old "Somos Crédito" brand, so past users searching the brand name can still find it. After delisting, it was re-listed under a different license entity (evidence: the 2025 videos and the 2026-06 FB posts both predate the current launch date).
- Incentivized reviews: 4.82 shows a large number of one- or two-word five-star reviews that clearly don't match the complaints. This is the typical pattern for cash-loan shells that prompt for ratings at loan disbursement or limit-increase moments (inference, very likely). The rating count is therefore inflated and shouldn't be read as a download figure.
- Paid acquisition: esconfiablelegal says it has "flooded Mexican social media" with ads (unverified); our metaads library hasn't tracked it.
- Loan marketplace / cross-referral: FB comments say the app contains "several financieras", which looks like a loan-marketplace structure cross-referring users between multiple lending products (unverified).
Where the money comes from: short small-dollar loans (advertised as 91–120 days, actually due in 7–15 days), upfront fee deductions (a third-party case: borrowed 1,500, received 950), rollover fees, plus aggressive collection to force repayment. A third party estimates the APR (CAT) above 500% (esconfiablelegal, unverified).
5. How visible it is
No revenue is public, and no media outlet or big X account has written about it (x-radar: 90 posts in the last 0 days). The discussion we can see is consumer explainers asking "is it legal" and complaints in anti-scam groups, so it counts as "talked about in niche circles," and the talk is negative. "Copying it" isn't really on the table: the model itself is an entire industry being copied in bulk, and similar apps launch every week.
6. Verdict
- Why it took off: many Mexicans with no credit history and urgent cash needs search "préstamo", and there's a pool of SOFOM licenses that can be attached on iOS. It got mid-tier volume by re-listing an old brand, keyword-stuffing the name and incentivizing reviews.
- Differentiation: basically none. The description, permissions, scripts and collection tactics all match dozens of other apps in the same batch. The only difference is a brand name that has circulated for over a year (and that reputation is mostly negative).
- Worth watching?: not as an opportunity. This is a gray-area cash-loan shell with high regulatory risk (CONDUSEF / Apple delisting), competitors arrive in batches, and it's growing slower than its peers.
