# Stuck at $99.90: CashFlicks brings China's "watch dramas, earn cash" model to US iPhones

**What it is** A vertical short-drama app. Registration grants a large virtual balance, which grows as you watch dramas and ads. You need $100 to cash out, and the closer you get, the less you're paid per action. It makes money from ads, not in-app purchases.

**Why it took off** A mature Chinese cash-for-watching short-drama template, moved overseas: it ran ads in Vietnam and Thailand first to prove the funnel, then scaled into the US, where ad prices are higher. The store description avoids the word "cash" and got through Apple review. On Android, similar apps have tens of millions of installs, while on iOS almost no one has reached this scale.

**D** **How you could follow it** Not recommended to copy directly. If you do build in this space, build the half it gets wrong: a low-threshold, genuinely cash-out "watch and get rewarded" app. Test US per-user ad revenue before setting the reward curve, and look at markets like Brazil, Mexico and the Middle East that media haven't called out yet.

Grade D: it relies on a loophole in Apple review and on a cash-out promise it doesn't honor, and both are closing. Android is crowded, CoinDrama is already chasing it on iOS, and media and police in several countries are naming this category, so followers will most likely arrive as the window closes. CashFlicks is an iOS app for "watch short dramas, earn cash." Less than four months after launch it has accumulated 70k ratings, and it's now adding two or three hundred in the US every day. Its money doesn't come from the cash it pays users. It comes from the hundreds of ads users have to watch to reach $100. Below: how it runs, where users come from, who competes with it, and whether this business is worth going after.

### One TikTok ad, and a $100 you never reach

On Oct 26, 2026, the US App Store reviews for CashFlicks suddenly filled up with nearly identical lines. One says "I downloaded it after seeing the ad on TikTok." Another says "I hit $99.90 and it stopped giving rewards, so I can't cash out." A third says "Just installed it, the ads are earning me coins fast, hoping it actually pays out to my Cash App."

By Oct 31 the complaints were more specific: "It gives you $60 for signing up, but you need $100 to cash out. I watched for hours and it stopped at $99.90." "Watch 1 minutes of a drama, and you have to watch 2 minutes of ads. At first an episode paid $2, and near $100 each ad paid only a few cents, then nothing at all." In Nov 1: "Once I hit $90 it started paying $0.10 each time, and by $95 it's only a few cents." Another: "I've watched about 200 ads, each paying $0.01." (All US App Store reviews.)

The Vietnamese reviews tell the same story in Vietnamese: "Xem phim càng lúc càng ít tiền" (the more you watch, the less money you get), "Không cho rút tiền" (they won't let you withdraw).

That's the whole CashFlicks playbook.

### What it is, and where the money comes from

Open it and you get a standard vertical short-drama app: sweet romance, suspense, family dramas, one to two minutes per episode. The difference is a balance on screen. Registration grants a large amount, and watching dramas, watching ads and daily check-ins all add to it. Once you accumulate $100 you can cash out. The rate of accumulation starts fast and slows as you approach $100, eventually stopping at $99.xx.

The store page is carefully worded. The description says "premium short dramas" and "thousands of exclusive short dramas," and on rewards it has a single line, "Daily Engagement Bonus: check in daily, complete casual watch tasks, and claim exciting rewards." The words "cash" and "withdraw" never appear. The earn-money idea is carried entirely by the name, Cash, and by the ads it runs outside the store. This is most likely why it passed iOS review (inference, but a very typical approach). The age rating was initially changed to 17+, and the current version is 2.6 (10-06).

Money comes from ads: rewarded video and interstitials. It doesn't appear on any country's top-grossing chart, because it sells no in-app purchases. The hundreds of ads a user watches before reaching $100 are the revenue, and very little real cash is ever paid out. Several Facebook discussions mention $50 and $250 payouts, but whether these are true can't be verified, and no App Store review mentions a successful cash-out. The source of the dramas is unclear; one US user said "most of them are completely AI-made" (11-01).

The developer is Shanghai Bitui Technology Co., Ltd. Another app on the same account is CoinWalk – Walk & Earn (walk to earn), launched in April, with 117 ratings. It looks like the "X + earn money" template was tested on walking first and then swapped to short dramas to scale (inference). This playbook (large virtual balance on signup, diminishing rewards, high cash-out threshold) is already mature in China's "web-earning short dramas" and "watch dramas, get cash" apps. It's the same product, moved to a new market.

### How big it is, and where it's growing

| Store | Ratings (11-06) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Vietnam | 20,468 | Entertainment free chart #18–22,11-02~11-04; has been in the overall free top chart (#164–183) |
| Thailand | 11,661 | |
| US | 8,203 | Last 7 days +1,787, 216–318 per day |
| Brazil | 6,919 | Ratings roughly 3x in the two weeks at the end of October (AppInsider) |
| Japan | 4,553 | |
| South Africa | 4,171 | 10-22 entered the top 10 of the Entertainment free chart (AppInsider) |

Across all stores 69,945 ratings in total, 7 new in the last 3,541 days, charted in 40 stores (App Store, 11-06). Apple lists the launch date as Jul 14.

The order is clear: Vietnam and Thailand first, then South Africa and Brazil, and now the US is the main market. In the US its Entertainment free chart rank dropped from 40 to 66, yet ratings are growing by two or three hundred a day, which suggests US volume is bought, not earned from the charts. The US has the highest ad prices, so it makes sense to prove creatives and retention in cheaper Southeast Asia first and then scale in the US.

One more detail: the store average is 4.5, but among recent US reviews, 36 of 100 are one-star, averaging 3.15; in Vietnam, 60 of 200 are one-star. Most Vietnamese five-star reviews are one-word posts like "Hay", "ok" or "Phim hay", with garbled usernames. A gap this large between the store average and recent reviews likely means ratings are prompted at the moment rewards are paid out, or there's some other incentive (inference).

### Where users come from

- **Short-video ads** . A US review literally says "downloaded the app off of an ad on tik tok"; a Vietnamese review asks "why does this app run so many ads?" Similar CoinDrama was covered by Vietnam's VnExpress for running Facebook ads, and FreeFlick and CashDrama were covered by Thai PBS for TikTok ads. Ad spend can't be verified.

- **Name catches search** . The name includes "Cash," so people searching "earn money" or "kiếm tiền" in the store may see it (inferred).

- **"Scam or legit" videos** . YouTube has reviews like "Is CashFlicks a SCAM or LEGIT?" and "I Tried CashFlicks" that themselves drive traffic. No influencer promotion found on TikTok, and no discussion on X in the last 90 days.

### Who it's competing with

This category on Google Play was already crowded:

|---|---|---|---|
| Coin Drama | Android | 17.9M installs | 2026-03 |
| CashDrama | Android | 17.8M installs | Unknown |
| LuckyDramas – Watch & Earn | Android | 14.2M installs | 2025-06 |
| Spark Dramas / DM Short Drama / Lucky Drama / TikShort / DramaCash … | Android | 1M–2.7M installs | 2025-09~2026-07 |
| CoinDrama(YS Culture) | iOS | 3,126 ratings, +2,417,52 storefronts charted in the last 7 days | 2026-09-02 |
| Tikoo: Watch Drama, Earn Cash | iOS | 9,035 ratings, only +137 in the last 7 days | 2026-01-05 |

(Google Play installs, App Store rating count, 11-06)

Few similar apps on iOS can build real volume, and CashFlicks is the biggest, which is the real reason it worked: the product is essentially the same as the tens-of-millions-install apps on Android, just packaged to pass App Store review. But iOS already has direct followers: CoinDrama entered two months later, its new ratings last week nearly matched CashFlicks', and it covers more storefronts. On Android someone even registered a same-name "CashFlicks – Earn Money," a different company.

On the other side are legitimate short-drama platforms (PineDrama, DramaBox, ReelShort, which take in-app purchases and don't pay out) and established rewards apps (Freecash, KashKick, Mistplay, which really do cash out). They compete for the same people who want to binge dramas and those who want pocket money.

### Already being watched

In 2026 October, VnExpress reported in Vietnamese and English that short-drama apps lure millions with easy money but only deliver ads and malware; Thai PBS Verify and Bangkok police also issued warnings. Named were CoinDrama, MixReels, CashDrama, and FreeFlick, not yet CashFlicks. Apple's review guidelines include clauses on misleading users and fake rewards, so apps like this could be pulled at any time; ad platforms may also block the creatives.

### If it were you

**One-line take:** The money is real, but it comes from a window between "passed Apple review" and "users haven't caught on," and both are narrowing. If you copy it, you'll likely be the third or fourth entrant on iOS, doing something more and more national media and police are naming.

**Who it suits:** teams already running China-style earn-money, IAA mini-games, or short dramas, with a ready drama library, ad monetization (mediation SDKs), and per-storefront paid acquisition; teams that can absorb account bans, app removals, and rebuilding under new skins.

**Who it doesn't suit:** indie developers and small teams who want a long-term product that grows through word of mouth or organic traffic. This category has no organic spread; one-star reviews are all "scam," and stop the spend and the installs stop. Developer accounts also carry the risk.

**How to do it:**

- If you do it, build the half it gets wrong: real cash-out "watch dramas, get rewarded." Set the threshold at $5–10, actually pay out, and use payout screenshots as creatives. Only markets with high ad rates like the US can still pay out and stay profitable after real disbursements. Test ad revenue per user at small budgets before setting the reward curve.

- Shift regions: Vietnam and Thailand have already been named by media. Brazil, South Africa, Mexico, and the Middle East (UAE and Egypt already show traction) have no public scrutiny yet, but followers will move there fast.

- The content side is worth copying: one- to two-minute episodes with a hook in the first three seconds, with AI-made dramas cutting costs. That's what lets this kind of app sustain hundreds of ad slots.

**How to acquire users:** TikTok and Meta short-video ads, with creatives showing screen recordings of "watch and earn" and balances going up. Test creatives and retention cheaply in Southeast Asia first, then spend in the US. Put local-language "earn money" words in the store name.

**When to be early:** the earlier the better, but you don't control the window. If Apple clears this category in bulk under its guidelines, or a country's regulator names a specific app, the window closes. At the current pace, measure in weeks, not quarters.

**What would show I'm wrong:** if over the next month or two CashFlicks and CoinDrama stay live and US new ratings hold at several hundred a day, Apple is tolerating this pattern and the iOS opportunity is bigger than this judges. Conversely, if its US volume suddenly drops off or it disappears from the store, the window has closed.

Where users come from

- **Verified** **TikTok ads** : a US review (2026-10-26) says "downloaded the app off of an ad on tik tok"

- **Verified** **Heavy ad spend (Vietnam)** : a Vietnamese review asks "why does this app run so many ads?"; similar CoinDrama ran Facebook ads in Vietnam (VnExpress 2026-10-12)

- Inferred **Spend rotates by storefront, currently mainly the US** : US new ratings of 216–318 per day, while Entertainment free chart rank slid from 40 to 66; AppInsider noted traction in South Africa (10-22 into top 10) and Brazil (10-31, ×3.3)

- Inferred **Store search (name includes Cash)** : inferred, no keyword ranking data available

- **Verified** **Organic traffic from "scam or legit" YouTube reviews** : several CashFlicks review videos on YouTube (IjwCLdQx7zc, 3RS3fSZb_TA, etc.)

- Inferred **Rating prompt shown when rewards are paid / nudging for good reviews** : store rating 4.51; recent review samples US 3.15, Vietnam 3.7, plus many single-word five-star reviews with gibberish usernames

## Why CashFlicks (iOS id6772791762) was able to work

> Research date 2026-11-06. Data sources: our appstore / googleplay / metaads libraries (agent-im machine, libraries from 2026-10-28), Apple lookup API, web pages (Jina/Exa search), TikTok (TikHub). Anything unconfirmed is marked "unverified."

### One line

A Shanghai company (Shanghai Bitui Technology Co., Ltd.) makes a "watch short dramas, earn cash" app monetized through ads (IAA). The mechanics match China's "earn-money short drama" apps: users first get a large virtual balance, the cash-out threshold is $100, and the payout shrinks the further you go, so users get stuck at $99.xx, and every minute of ads they watch during that time is revenue. It worked for two reasons: it spent on short-video ads to acquire users, and it passed iOS review. The description never says "cash"; the name CashFlicks is the only place it appears. Similar products on Google Play already have several installs in the tens of millions, and few on iOS reach this scale.

### 1. Data

- Total ratings across all storefronts **69,945** (2026-11-06), with **3,541** new in the last 7 days (about 500 per day), charted in 40 storefronts (appstore library app_profile / daily).

- Ratings by storefront: Vietnam 20,468, Thailand 11,661, US 8,203, Brazil 6,919, Japan 4,553, South Africa 4,171, Mexico 3,780, Egypt 2,540, UAE 2,411 (appstore library 2026-11-06).

- **Currently growing mainly in the US** : US +1,787 in the last 7 days (216–318 per day), Vietnam +513, Thailand +426 (app_day 2026-10-28~11-06). US Entertainment free chart rank slid from 40 to 66 while ratings kept rising, suggesting US growth is paid acquisition rather than organic chart traffic.

- Rankings: Vietnam Entertainment free chart #18–22,11-02~11-04, entering the Vietnam overall free chart (#164–183); best category rank is #14 in Uganda (appstore library). AppInsider recorded it entering South Africa's Entertainment free top 10,10-31 and "Brazil ratings take off (×3.3 in two weeks)" (10-22).

- **It's absent from every storefront's Top Grossing chart** : it has no in-app purchases, so all the money comes from ads.

- Launch date: Apple lookup lists the first release as 2026-07-14; AppInsider says "8 Sep Released," possibly July approval with September rollout across storefronts (unverified). Version 2.6 (10-06), 10-04 changed the age rating, now 17+.

- Store average rating is 4.51, but recent review samples average much lower: US 3.15 (36 of 100 are one-star, 31 complain about being unable to cash out or call it a scam), Vietnam 3.7 (60 of 200 are one-star). Many Vietnamese five-star reviews are one-word comments like "Hay / ok / Phim hay" with gibberish usernames. A gap this large between the store score and recent reviews suggests a rating prompt shown at the moment rewards are paid, or incentivized reviews (unverified).

### 2. What it is and where the money comes from

- The store description only says "premium short dramas" and "Daily Engagement Bonus: check in, complete watch tasks, claim rewards," and **says nothing about cash or cashing out** . The "earn money" idea is carried entirely by the name CashFlicks and the ad creatives. This is a classic way of passing Apple review.

- User reviews piece together the mechanics fully (appstore library reviews, US storefront 10-26–11-01):
    - "Cash out threshold $100... I'm stuck at $99.90, I can still watch but it doesn't pay anymore"
    - "Up to $90 it paid $0.10 each time, by $95 it only gives a few cents"
    - "Watching 1 minutes of drama means 2 minutes of ads; at first an episode paid $2"
    - "I watched about 200 ads, each paid $0.01"

- Vietnamese reviews: "Xem phim càng lúc càng ít tiền" (the more you watch, the less it pays), "Không cho rút tiền" (won't let you withdraw).

- A few users claim they did cash out: a Facebook discussion summarized by Meta AI has someone saying they withdrew $50 and $250, while others got stuck at $99.90 (facebook.com/fb-answers/does-cashflicks-really-pay). Whether true is unverified.

- **Revenue model** : IAA, meaning rewarded video ads plus interstitials. The hundreds or thousands of ads users watch before reaching $100 are the revenue; little or no money actually goes out. US ad rates are the highest, which explains why spend is now focused there. Episodes are mostly low-cost licensed or AI-made dramas. 36kr citing DataEye: as of 2026 September, among overseas short-drama apps, pure-IAA products grew from 142 to 154, the fastest-growing monetization model (36kr.com/p/4023751637915271).

- The same developer's other app is **CoinWalk – Walk & Earn** (2026-04-02,117 ratings, Apple lookup). This company runs an "X + earn money" rewards template, testing on walking first and then scaling to short dramas. A business registry site lists "Shanghai Bitui Technology Co., Ltd." (established 2023-03, Fengxian, registered capital 1M); the pinyin matches Bitui, but it isn't confirmed to be the same company.

### 3. Competitors

**Already crowded on Google Play** (googleplay library, installs):

| Product | Developer | installs | Launched |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coin Drama | Tera Link | 17.9M | 2026-03 |
| CashDrama | Language Acadeemy | 17.8M | Unknown |
| LuckyDramas – Watch & Earn | AID Japan | 14.2M | 2025-06 |
| Spark Dramas: Drama & Cash | Fortune-Star | 2.67M | 2025-09 |
| DM Short Drama: Watch & Earn | ANA KAROLINY LIMA CAVALCANTE | 2.5M | 2026-03 |
| Lucky Drama – Shorts & Rewards | Digitnesia | 2.24M | 2026-07 |
| TikShort: Dramas Watch & Earn | Taqwa Soft | 1.14M | 2026-03 |
| DramaCash | Appcamp | 1.07M | Unknown |
| Reel Drama / CashDrama(Guicheng) / ReelCash / Drama Plus / Drama Blitz … | several | 1K ~ 700K | 2026-05~10 |

**Few similar apps on iOS. CashFlicks has the biggest volume** (appstore library, ratings summed across all stores):

- CoinDrama (YS Culture Limited, 2026-09-02): 3,126 ratings, charted in 2,417,52 more stores over the last 7 days, best rank #2 in Entertainment. It's CashFlicks' most direct chaser on iOS and it's growing faster than CashFlicks. VnExpress reported it running ads on Facebook in Vietnam.

- Tikoo: Watch Drama, Earn Cash (UK RSBC, 2026-01-05): 9,035 ratings, US 5,889, only +137 in the last 7 days. It has already cooled off.

- ReelCash-drama (HK YCool, 2026-09-07): only 2 ratings.

- On Android there's a same-name **CashFlicks – Earn Money** (com.snap.scroll.dawn). Its site cashflickstv.com lists the operator as "NICHOLLS ROLSTON ANGELIS JR", a different company from this app. It's a name grab.

- Legit short-drama platforms (in-app purchases, no cash payouts): PineDrama (TikTok, 253K ratings, +7K in the last 39 days), BlinkDrama, VibeShort, ReelyGo, Soda Reels, FreeDrama, DramaBox, ReelShort. They chase the same "want to binge short dramas" users, but without the "earn money" hook.

- Broader reward apps: Freecash, KashKick, Mistplay (with payout records), another option for people who want pocket money.

### 4. Where users came from (growth tactics)

1. **Confirmed paid ads on short-video and social platforms** : a one-star US review (2026-10-26) reads "I downloaded the app off of an ad on tik tok"; a one-star Vietnamese review asks "Why is this app being promoted like this?". The similar CoinDrama ran Facebook ads in Vietnam (VnExpress 2026-10-12), and FreeFlick and CashDrama ran TikTok ads in Thailand (Thai PBS Verify 2026-02-03). Our Meta ad library didn't pick it up because it isn't on our tracking list, so the lack of a hit doesn't mean no spend. Spend scale is unverified.

2. **Rotating paid volume by store** : Vietnam and Thailand first (most ratings), then South Africa and Brazil (AppInsider recorded a spike in late October), and now the US is the main market, with the most new ratings per day while its chart rank keeps slipping.

3. **Searching "earn money" in the store** : the name's "Cash" catches searches like "earn money / kiếm tiền" directly (inferred).

4. **Organic traffic from "scam or legit?" review videos** : YouTube has videos like "Is CashFlicks a SCAM or LEGIT?", "I Tried CashFlicks", and "Are These 4 Reward Apps Worth The Time In 2026". Searching cashflicks on TikTok mostly turns up other "Cash App scam" content, and I saw no creator campaigns for it (TikHub search).

5. **Rating management (inferred)** : the store shows 4.5 stars, but recent review samples only range from 3.2 to 3.7 stars, with lots of one-word five-star reviews. It likely prompts for a rating right when rewards are paid out, which keeps the store score high enough to convert.

### 5. Why it took off

- **Strong hook** : watch dramas, earn money, a big balance handed out up front, and $100 gets you a withdrawal. That's very appealing to emerging markets and lower-income US users. Watch time is the income, so the economics run on their own.

- **Paid acquisition pays back** : IAA lifetime value per user is highest in the US, so test creatives and retention in cheap Southeast Asian markets first, then scale into the US.

- **Passed iOS review** : the description avoids "cash" and the reward is called "Daily Engagement Bonus". Similar apps on Android have tens of millions of installs, while few can scale on Apple, so competition there is much lighter.

- **Taking a playbook proven in China** : the Chinese "earn cash from short dramas" model, with user tiers, diminishing rewards and withdrawal thresholds, is well established. Add cheap overseas short-drama content (AI-made short dramas), and the team has basically moved a ready-made template into a new market.

### 6. Differentiation

The product has no real differentiation: the drama library, mechanics, withdrawal thresholds are nearly identical to Coin Drama and CashDrama. The real difference is **distribution** . Competitors are mainly on Google Play, and this one packaged the same thing to get listed on iOS, becoming the #1 in its category there (69.9K ratings, #2 Tikoo 9K, CoinDrama 3K). That's part of why it works, but the core is still paid acquisition, plus the model itself making money.

### 7. How many people have seen it

- Revenue isn't public. No founder has come out to share numbers, and there's no discussion on X (x-radar searched 90 days, 0 posts).

- This **category** has been called out by media as a scam: VnExpress (2026-10-12 Vietnamese edition, 10-20 English edition: "Short-drama apps lure millions with promises of easy cash, deliver ads and malware instead"), Thai PBS Verify, and Bangkok police have all issued warnings. But the named apps are CoinDrama, MixReels, CashDrama and FreeFlick. CashFlicks isn't on the list.

- In English, the main activity is "scam or real?" review videos on YouTube and Facebook discussion (Meta AI summary page: "52 people talking about this").

- Verdict: it's circulating in small circles. The overseas make-money crowd knows this category, Google Play is already packed, and on iOS there are direct copycats like CoinDrama.

### 8. What others can borrow

- The IAA model of "content + virtual cash + diminishing rewards + high withdrawal thresholds" can sustain paid acquisition in high-value markets like the US.

- Test creatives and retention in cheap markets first, then scale by store.

- App Store page approach: the description only covers content and "daily rewards", while the earn-money promise lives in the name and ad creatives.

- Prompt for ratings when rewards are paid out to keep the store score up.

- Risks: national media and police are already naming this category. Apple could pull it under 4.3 / 5.3 (misleading, fake rewards), and ad platforms could ban the creatives. User reviews are harsh (most one-star reviews are "can't withdraw").

### 9. Still unclear

- Whether anyone has actually withdrawn money, and how much (only scattered claims on Facebook).

- Ad spend scale and platform split: Meta's library doesn't track it, and the TikTok ad library only covers Europe.

- Actual downloads and ad revenue (Apple doesn't disclose).

- Developer background: whether "Shanghai Bitui Technology" is actually Shanghai Bitui is unverified. The source of the drama content (licensed short dramas or AI-generated) is unclear.

- Apple's first listing date 7-14 and AppInsider's 9-08 launch date don't match.
