# One person, 13 TikTok accounts, the same fishing scripts translated into a dozen-plus languages: how the Dutch fishing diary VISDEX hit Europe's eight-country sports charts in a month

**What it is** A fishing diary app that turns your catches into a per-country species encyclopedia, grades fish bronze/silver/gold by length, and offers city and province leaderboards and fishing-mate competitions.

**Why it took off** The developer opened 13 TikTok accounts, one per country, posted the same faceless fishing-tips videos translated into each local language, and launched the app in 15 languages. Wherever a TikTok account went, VISDEX showed up on that country's sports chart.

**A** 68 **How you could follow** Don't go after fishing. Pick a hobby with local species and rules (birdwatching, mushroom foraging, hunting, sea fishing), or a market it hasn't entered, and copy the formula: a catch-encyclopedia-style logging app plus a one-account-per-country multilingual tips video matrix.

Follow-on score 68: almost nobody knows it (no press, nobody on X or Reddit, no public revenue). The playbook relies on AI translation and organic reach, and one or two people can copy it to other hobbies and countries. Deductions: hobby audiences have low willingness to pay, revenue is still tiny, fishing has off-seasons, and a multi-account repost matrix risks TikTok throttling. Barely known

Niels Zwetsloot, an indie developer in Amsterdam, built VISDEX, a fishing diary app that turns your catches into a Pokédex-style collection. Starting in Oct 9, he opened 13 TikTok accounts, one per country, and posted the same fishing-tips videos translated into each language, reaching millions of organic views in a month. Google Play installs went from 7 to 4,763 over 12,364 days, and the Netherlands and Poland Sports Free charts reached the top ten. Almost nobody outside has noticed it.

### A Polish "Method feeder" video

2026 Nov 1, the TikTok account @visdex.pl posted a two-minute video opening with: "The rod tip bends, and the fish has already hooked itself." It covers how to fish for bream, roach and carp with a method feeder: a short hooklength of about 10 cm, the bait hung on a hair rig, groundbait pressed into a mold around the feeder, a line clip on the reel, and casting to the same spot every time. The last line: "Save it for your next session. Log your catches for free in VISDEX (link in bio)."

No face, voiceover, no hard sell. By Nov 6, the video had 278k views and 4,188 likes. The comments were Polish anglers showing off their catches: "I caught a bream with this" (photo), "used the method this year and pulled out a 54 cm roach". Some teased: "method fider 😅, can you do it in Polish?"

Three days later, the same script appeared on the Hungarian account @visdex.hu, in Hungarian, with 89k views. It also showed up on the UK, Italian and Dutch accounts.

### What it is

VISDEX (called "Visdagboek & Vangsten" in the Dutch store and "Fangbuch & Angeln" in Germany) is a freshwater fishing diary. A few taps log species, length, weight, bait and spot. Snap a photo, and AI identifies the species, estimates the length, and automatically adds weather, barometric pressure and moon phase.

What sets it apart from other logbooks is gamification: 88 Dutch species form a collection, each graded from bronze to silver to gold to legendary by length. There are national, provincial and city leaderboards, plus head-to-head and group competitions with friends. Each species' minimum size, closed season and keep/release rules are listed too. The store page says it plainly: "Your catches won't drown in a camera roll. They become a lasting collection."

Launched on iOS in Jul 2026 13, with the developer name pointing to a single person whose only app this is. The Jul 22 Instagram launch post said 427 anglers had logged 1,864 catches across 35 species, which suggests a local test run in the Netherlands before launch.

### How big it is now

| Metric | Metric | Sources |
|---|---|---|
| Google Play installs | 10-29 to 4,763 in 11-06 days, +12,364,7 for 7,601 | Google Play store page |
| Play Sports Free chart | Netherlands #4, Poland #7, Germany #19, Sweden #21, Italy #41, Spain #55, France #70 | Google Play chart, 10-29 to 11-06 |
| iOS ratings | Global 54 → 82 (10-28 to 11-06), Netherlands 66 reviews, average 4.9 | App Store |
| iOS Sports Free chart | Hungary #3, Czechia #17, Netherlands #18, Romania #21, Poland #26; the number of countries charting at once rose from 10 to 20–27 | App Store,11-06 |
| iOS Sports Top Grossing chart | Austria #28, Germany #75 | App Store,11-06 |

Most of the volume is on Android: 12k installs on Play, but only 82 ratings on iOS. European anglers use Android more, which is expected. Charting on iOS Top Grossing in Austria and Germany shows people are paying, but the sports grossing chart has a low bar, so revenue is probably small (inferred).

### Where the traffic comes from: one account per country, one script translated N times

Almost all of it comes from TikTok, and the approach is very consistent (TikTok account profiles, 11-06):

| Account | Followers | Posts | First post | Visible views |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| @visdexapp (Netherlands) | 8,348 | 114 | 10-09 | 59 posts, 1.85M total |

| @visdex.deutschland | 2,974 | 40 | — | — |
| .es / .fr / .ro / .se / .fi / .no / .dk | 270–1,640 | 16–33 | — | — |

- **The content is tips and trivia, not ads** : how to shot a float so you can see every bite, how to choose a soft bait's tail, why big bass don't school with small ones, setting the drag at a quarter to a third of line strength, and why polarized sunglasses let you see underwater. Each video ends with a line about logging for free in VISDEX.

- **The same script, a dozen-plus language versions** : the method feeder, float shotting and big bass videos were posted in English, Dutch, Italian, Polish and Hungarian with identical structure. No face, voiceover over footage, which looks like batch AI translation and dubbing (inferred). In the Hungarian comments, people laugh that "compó (roach?) is kompót (fruit compote)", which suggests the dubbing mispronounced a word (inferred).

- **A few videos pitch the product itself** : "a pike caught in Friesland helps an angler at Masuria Lake a week later, that's VISDEX." It uses a network-effect pitch, presenting other people's catch data as a benefit to you. Another says "set up your own competition with fishing mates in a few taps, free."

The timing lines up. The Dutch account opened first (10-09), and the Netherlands reached #4 on Play. The Polish account had a single video with 278k views, and Poland reached #7 on Play. The Hungarian account only started posting 10-29, and a week later it was #3 on iOS Hungary Sports Free. In a small country's category chart, 1 new ratings is enough to climb, and once on the chart you get another layer of store exposure. The Oct 28 1.0.18 update note read only "VISDEX now supports 15 languages", so people TikTok sends to the store see their own language.

No sign it is running ads: VISDEX doesn't appear in the European TikTok ad library. Whether it advertises on Meta couldn't be verified. No press coverage, nobody mentions it on X or Reddit, and Dutch fishing forums haven't discussed it. The only place you see it is TikTok itself.

### Where the money comes from

Free to download, with basic logging always free. Pro covers unlimited stats, the full map, hourly bite forecasts by species, and "which bait works in your water right now." The Dutch App Store lists monthly at €6.99 or €2.99 and annual at €29.99 or €19.99 (the two price tiers are probably regular and discounted). When Pro launched in July, new subscribers got 3 months free. Now a Hungarian commenter says "good that it's only free for two weeks, then you pay", so the trial has probably been shortened.

No public revenue figures. Based on 12k installs and an Austria Sports Top Grossing rank of 28, monthly revenue is roughly a few hundred to a thousand or two in euros (an estimate, low confidence). It's competing on installs and territory now, not monetization.

### Who it's competing with

| Product | Scale | Compared with VISDEX |
|---|---|---|
| Fishbrain(2012) | Claims 15M users; US iOS 76k ratings, Netherlands iOS only 109 | Global, mostly English, weak on local species and regulations |
| Fish AI(2025) | US iOS 27k ratings, Netherlands 1,320; Android 100k+ | AI Q&A, spots and forecasts, tool-oriented, no collection or local leaderboards |
| VISplanner (the official Dutch angling association) | Netherlands iOS 295 rating, Sports Free #8 | Electronic fishing license plus water rules, a must-install, but no diary or social features; complements VISDEX |
| Fish Deeper / Wanneer Vissen | Netherlands iOS 351 / 112 ratings | One ties into sonar hardware, the other only covers bite timing |
| HengelApp, Fish-Dex, etc. | Rating 0–2 | Indie projects that appeared around the same time, with no distribution |

Fishing journal apps are an old category, and VISDEX doesn't have any feature nobody else could build. What it has is the combo: the big players haven't seriously gone after the smaller European languages, the collectible catalog makes people want to share and come back, and a multilingual content pipeline runs at near-zero marginal cost. Haven't seen anyone copying it yet.

### If it were you

**The call** : worth following, but don't go after fishing. Copy the distribution, which is one country, one account, and the same technique script translated into N languages, plus the product play of turning logs into a catalog. Then apply it to a different hobby with its own local species and local rules.

**Who it's for** : a team of 1–2 people, one person who can build a photo-recognition logging app (recognition and translation models are off the shelf now), and one person who can run a batch of faceless short videos with AI across a dozen TikTok accounts. Ideally someone who fishes themselves and knows what the community loves to argue about.

**Who it's not for** : anyone aiming at a huge market to win on features (Fishbrain and Fish AI are already buying users in US fishing), anyone who only wants to run ads or wait for organic store traffic, and anyone who can't handle a niche with low willingness to pay and revenue that builds slowly.

**How to do it:**

- Other hobbies: birdwatching, mushroom foraging, insects and butterflies, wildflowers, hiking peaks, sea fishing, hunting (Germany, Nordics and Eastern Europe all have licensing cultures). The common thread is that species and places naturally fit a catalog, each country has its own checklists and rules, and the established tools are mostly generic English versions.

- You could also take fishing into markets it hasn't seriously touched: freshwater fishing in Japan, Korea, Brazil, Turkey and Southeast Asia, with a local species catalog plus local regulations. VISDEX won't reach those anytime soon.

- On product, keep its skeleton: free logging, catalog tiers, city and province leaderboards, and friend competitions. Charge for forecasts and stats. Make the share cards good-looking and one tap to post to Stories.

**How to get users** : open one account per country first and post one tip or fun fact a day, ending with "log it free in the app." After two or three weeks of posting, pull the scripts that passed 50k views, translate and voice them with AI, and publish them as local-language versions, one account per country, in sync. Localize the app and store titles at the same time. Watch the category charts of small countries (Hungary, Czechia, Romania), where a few ratings can push you up, and getting charted is itself free exposure. Have a native speaker review the voiceovers before posting, so you don't get laughed out of the comments like it did.

**Why now** : it only really spread in October, and nobody has noticed the playbook yet. A solid bet is to get one country to 100K views and a top-10 category chart within six months. TikTok is cracking down harder on batch AI reposting accounts, so this window won't stay open forever.

**What would mean you read it wrong** :

- VISDEX's weekly Play installs fell back to a thousand or two by late November, as the winter off-season hit. That shows it runs on a short-lived video spike, not a product that keeps people.

- Its TikTok accounts get rate-limited or banned in bulk, which means the multi-account approach carries its own risk.

- You open the accounts and post for a month, and no translated version passes 10k views. Then the hobby you picked doesn't do well with technique content on TikTok, or the translated voiceovers sound fake. Change the topic rather than pushing harder.

## VISDEX: Visdagboek & Vangsten (iOS 6775490949) research report

Dated 2026-11-06. Developer Niels Zwetsloot (individual, Amsterdam; the Impressum address is Hugo de Grootkade, and this is his only app). Websites: visdex.nl / visdex.app.

### One line

A fishing log app built by a solo Dutch developer. Caught fish become a collection (88 Dutch species, graded bronze/silver/gold/legendary by length), with AI fish identification, national and provincial/city leaderboards, competitions with other anglers, and a fishing-weather score. Free to use. The Pro subscription unlocks AI, a one-week bite forecast, and full stats.

### Conclusion: why it broke out

Starting in Oct 9, it opened a batch of **country-specific TikTok accounts** posting faceless fishing-tip videos. The same script was translated and posted in each country's language, pulling millions of views in a month. In Oct 28 1.0.18, the app was made available in 15 languages, so wherever a TikTok account launched, that country's store charts followed. The product itself (collection + leaderboards + official rules) gave the videos somewhere to land, but growth came from this multilingual content matrix. The real volume is on Android. The iOS rating count looks small because most of its users are on Android.

### Growth data

- **Google Play (googleplay library, app_day)** : installs 4,763 (10-29) → 6,436 (10-31) → 8,966 (11-03) → 10,789 (11-05) → 12,364 (11-06), **+7,601 over 7 days** . Play Sports Free chart: Netherlands #4, Poland #7, Germany #19, Sweden #21, Italy #41, Spain #55, France #70, UK #130 (chart_rank, 10-29 to 11-06).

- **iOS (appstore library, app_day)** : global rating count 54 (10-28) → 82 (11-06), Netherlands 49 → 66; Dutch average 4.88. iOS Sports Free chart: Hungary #3, Czechia #17, Netherlands #18, Romania #21, Poland #26. **Sports Top Grossing chart** : Austria #28, Germany #75 (data card). This shows subscription revenue exists, but it is very small.

- **Cold start** : Jul 22 Instagram launch post reads "427 anglers have logged 1,864 catches across 35 species" (instagram.com/p/DbFzhMVDO-x). This shows a testing round before launch, with seed users from the Netherlands.

- The AppBrain page shows "2026-10-09 removed from the App Store" (appbrain.com/appstore/visdex-visdagboek-vangsten/ios-6775490949). The app is currently listed and being updated normally, so this may have been a brief removal or a rename. **Not verified** .

### Growth tactics (evidence)

#### 1. TikTok country-by-country account matrix (verified, main channel)

Account data scraped by TikHub (2026-11-06):

| Account | Followers | Posts | Likes | First video | Total views on scraped posts |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| @visdexapp (Netherlands) | 8,348 | 114 | 73,409 | 2026-10-09 | 59 posts, 1.85M |
| @visdex.uk | 2,710 | 39 | 32,716 | 2026-10-17 | 39 posts, 960k |
| @visdex.it | 4,722 | 32 | 36,380 | 2026-10-22 | 31 posts, 870k |
| @visdex.pl | 3,664 | 33 | 32,217 | — | Top single post 277k |
| @visdex.hu | 2,521 | 16 | 14,301 | 2026-10-29 | 16 posts, 460k |
| @visdex.deutschland | 2,974 | 40 | 22,450 | — | — |
| @visdex.es / .fr / .ro / .se / .fi / .no / .dk | 270–1,640 | 16–33 | — | — | — |

- The content is **the same script translated into multiple languages** : "nylon line stretches about 20% under load," "weighting a float," "method feeder," "a cormorant eats half a kilo of fish a day," "how to catch big pike." These appear across the Dutch, English, Italian, Polish, and Hungarian accounts. No faces shown; image-and-text posts with voiceover, ending by pointing to the app (visdex.app in the bio). It looks like AI-generated content produced in bulk.

- Several posts promote the app itself: "A pike caught in Friesland can help an angler in Sweden. That's how Visdex works" (network-effect pitch), "run your own competitions with fellow anglers," "AI Smart Logging: snap a photo and it identifies the species."

- **Timing lines up** : the Hungarian account only started posting 10-29, with individual posts at 170K views. It's #3 on the iOS Hungary Sports free chart now (you only need 1 ratings to get there, so the bar is low in small markets). The Dutch account started earliest (10-09) and sits at #4 on Google Play Netherlands. The Polish account's top post hit 277K, and it's #7 on Google Play Poland.

- These are organic posts, not ads. The tiktokads library (EU DSA ad library) returned no results for visdex.

#### 2. Instagram / Facebook profiles (confirmed, minor role)

@visdexapp posted the launch post and Reels ("Every catch tells a story"). The Facebook page (id 61589058429013) has a video post saying "A fishing diary you'll actually keep up with. Log a catch in ten seconds." Whether it runs Meta ads is **not verified** : the metaads library doesn't list this Page, but that library only covers advertisers discovered via keyword search, so a missing result doesn't prove no ads were run.

#### 3. Localization + store search

1.0.18 (10-28)'s update notes say "VISDEX now supports 15 languages," and store titles are localized in each country. For example, Germany's is "VISDEX: Fangbuch & Angeln," and the Netherlands' is "Visdagboek & Vangsten." This gives the TikTok traffic and store search a local-language landing point. The launch post says "search VISDEX and you'll find it," relying on brand-name search.

#### 4. Press, X, Reddit

Nothing found. x-radar returned 60 posts for visdex in 0 days. There are no discussions on Reddit or Dutch fishing forums (visserslatijn, etc.), no press coverage, and no public revenue figures.

### Competitors

| Product | Where | Launched | Scale | How VISDEX differs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fishbrain | iOS/Android | 2012 | Claims 15M users (careers.fishbrain.com); US iOS 76k ratings, but only 109 in the Netherlands | Global, US-leaning, mostly English. Weak coverage of Dutch species and regulations. VISDEX offers localized collection, regulations, and provincial/city leaderboards. |
| Fish AI(Liftoff Labs) | iOS/Android | 2025-01 | US iOS 27k ratings, Netherlands 1,320; Android 100k+ | AI Q&A, fishing spots, and forecasts. Leans toward tools and subscriptions. No collection mechanic and no local leaderboards. |
| VISplanner (Koninklijke Sportvisunie, the Dutch official angling association) | iOS/Android/web | New version 2026-06 | Netherlands iOS 295 rating, Sports Free chart #8 | Official digital fishing license (VISpas) + water-rules map. A must-install, but no logging, social, or gamification features. VISDEX adds the "fun" half. |
| Fish Deeper | iOS/Android | 2019 | Netherlands iOS 351 rating | Pairs with sonar hardware |
| Wanneer Vissen | iOS | 2018 | Netherlands 112 rating | Bite-time forecasts only |
| HengelApp, Fish-Dex, Fishing Journal: Angler Log, GILLI | iOS | 2026 | Rating 0–2 | Similar solo projects with very little traction. Fish-Dex (US) is closest in name and in the "fish encyclopedia" concept. |
| FishAngler, Fishing Points, Anglr, Elevated Fishing | iOS/Android | Years | Medium | Map/logging tools with no localized collection mechanic |

In short: fishing logs are an established category, and the big player is Fishbrain. VISDEX doesn't win on features. It wins on the combination of **a small European language market + a collection game mechanic + content distribution** .

### Why it's working

1. **TikTok multi-country account matrix** : 13 accounts, several million organic views in a month. Account launch timing matches when each country's charts appeared (see the table above).

2. **Small-country sports charts have a low bar** : Hungary iOS Sports #3 with just 1 ratings, and TikTok pushes it onto the chart, which adds another layer of store exposure.

3. **The product gives the videos a payoff** : "catch collection + bronze/silver/gold grades + leaderboards + competing with fishing mates" is shareable on its own and gives people a reason to stay. One five-star review from a 14-year-old German user: "I used to forget what fish I caught, how big, how heavy."

4. **The big players don't cover it** : Fishbrain has only 109 ratings on Dutch iOS, and the official Dutch VISplanner only handles licenses and rules. Localized catch-logging with social features is an empty space.

5. **Android first** : European anglers skew Android. 12k installs on Play, only 82 ratings on iOS.

### Differentiation

Localization + gamification: a species encyclopedia per country (88 species in the Netherlands), automatic grading by length, national/provincial/city leaderboards, species-specific rules (minimum sizes, closed seasons), in 15 languages. Compared with Fishbrain, it feels like a Pokédex rather than a tool. That's real reason people keep using and sharing it, but **growth mostly comes from the TikTok matrix** : differentiation decides whether people who arrive from a video stay, not whether anyone shows up.

### What to borrow

- Prove the content and product in one small country (the Netherlands) first, then **translate the same scripts into N languages and open one account per country** . Content cost barely changes, and reach multiplies.

- The content is tips and trivia (line tension, float shotting), not hard selling, with a line at the end pointing to the app. Niche interest groups cold-start fast on TikTok.

- Targets small-country category charts: the bar is very low, and charting itself is free exposure.

- "Catch collection + grading" gamifies a logging tool, so people want to show it off and come back.

- Complements the official app rather than competing for its must-have use case.

### Visibility

Barely known: no press coverage, nobody mentions it on X or Reddit, no public revenue. The only place you see it is TikTok itself. Copycats: similar small projects (HengelApp, Fish-Dex, etc.) appeared independently around the same time. No sign of anyone copying it.

### Unknowns

- How much subscription revenue it makes (we only know its iOS chart positions in Austria and Germany Sports Top Grossing), what Pro costs, and retention.

- Whether it runs ads on Meta/Google (metaads and tiktokads both show nothing, but coverage is limited).

- What AppBrain's "10-09 removal" refers to.

- Whether the developer is the PwC tech consultant Niels Zwetsloot on LinkedIn (same name, unverified). The legal pages are hosted on GitHub under user superniels123, which matches Instagram @superniels123.

- Whether the TikTok videos are AI-generated; this is only inferred from style.

- The Dutch account's profile shows 114 posts, but only 59 were captured, so total views are underestimated.

This article was written by AI from public data and the store data we collect daily. Numbers are sourced, and inferences are labeled.
