10 ratings break into the Finance Top Grossing chart at #32: the dividend tracker "GuGu Dividend" and a dozen-plus others crowding the same niche

What it is A dividend bookkeeping tool from a small Shanghai company. It tracks holdings and dividends across A-shares, HK stocks, US stocks and funds, calculates how much income you've earned this year and where you break even, and syncs across iOS, a WeChat mini-program and the web.

Why it took off In 2026, high-dividend stocks were hot, and income investors wanted a cross-broker income ledger. It built users through the WeChat mini-program first, then sold a ¥999 lifetime membership on iOS. Finance is a low-barrier Top Grossing chart, so a few large purchases can push an app into the top 40.

CHow you could play it Don't build another iOS dividend tracker to fight a dozen similar products. Take the playbook of building users in a mini-program first, then selling a high-priced one-time purchase and making numbers people want to share on Xueqiu, and apply it to niches nobody has served yet, such as convertible bonds, REITs or gold accumulation plans. Or go after the Android side of this category, which is almost empty.

Grade C: real demand and few people know about it, but a dozen-plus apps have flooded this exact topic in 2026 years. The largest has only 56 ratings, so the pool is small and crowded. The useful lesson is the WeChat-then-lifetime-purchase model; copying this exact app isn't worth it. Almost nobody knows about it yet

GuGu Dividend is an app for "save-and-collect-dividends" investors to track payouts. Its iOS version launched in July, and by Nov 6 it had only 10 ratings, yet it ranked #32 on China's finance Top Grossing chart. It didn't go viral. It collected money from a few people willing to pay ¥999 for lifetime membership. This piece explains how that chart position happened, where the users came from, how many others are already in this niche, and whether you should enter it.

A screenshot of a retirement account

On the evening of 2026 Aug 29, around 9 o'clock, a Xueqiu user from Jiangxi posted from an Android phone. The title: "My retirement account's expected dividends are only 32% of the target at 2026!" In brackets, a note added: by the "Dividend Jar" calculation, the cost dividend yield is 7.74%. A screenshot below, 3 likes, 1 comments.

That's the closest thing to word of mouth this app has in public. Its users are people who don't trade short-term. They buy a bit of high-dividend stock every month, reinvest the payouts, and care about "how much income I've earned this year," "where I break even," and "when the next dividend lands."

A year and a half earlier, in Mar 2025 8, a programmer posted on Xueqiu: "I want to build an app for dividend hunters... so they don't have to punch numbers into a calculator until it smokes" It got 12 likes and 19 replies. He admitted himself: "Excel could do it, but it's a hassle." By 2026, more than a dozen people had built this same idea at once, and Dividend Jars was one of them.

What it is

The income ledger is built by a small Shanghai company (Shanghai Yunji Zhilian Technology) whose only app this is. It has four core pieces:

  • Holdings ledger: A-shares, B-shares, HK stocks, US stocks, ETFs and off-exchange funds are recorded in one place. Bonus and split shares automatically adjust cost basis, and B-shares are converted to RMB by currency.
  • AI screenshot import: snap a broker holdings screenshot or an Alipay fund screenshot and it records the entries, even matching sell records for dividend tax top-ups.
  • Income calendar: ex-dividend dates and payouts are tracked automatically. A 12-month bar chart shows annual cash flow and projects full-year payouts.
  • Watchlist: set buy and sell prices by "target dividend yield," plus a "yield grid" that flags buys in high-yield zones and sells in low-yield zones. The home screen shows FIRE progress, meaning how many months of expenses passive income covers.

The first line of the store description is "Buy a little every month, and let reinvested dividends compound a little more." That language is pure income-investor jargon.

Pricing (App Store China store, 11-06): PRO monthly ¥6, yearly ¥60; MAX monthly ¥12, yearly ¥120, lifetime ¥999. The US store lists PRO lifetime at $69.99 and MAX lifetime at $149.99.

10 ratings, how it reached #32

Start with two numbers (App Store China Finance Top Grossing, 10-28 to 11-06):

Date10-2810-2910-3010-3111-0111-0211-0311-0411-0511-06
Top Grossing rank13939598511615336593532
Cumulative ratings10101010101010101010

The rating count didn't move for ten days, and the last review is from Aug 15. A third-party estimate puts global installs at "500+" (AppInsider). Yet its rank jumped into the top 40 within days, then slid steadily. This is the shape of a few large one-off purchases: someone buys a ¥999 lifetime membership and the rank climbs; a few days with no new sales and it drops back past a hundred.

The barrier to the mid-tier Finance Top Grossing chart is low. Next to 11-06 sit Baishi AA Bookkeeping (#31), Baozha K-line Training (#33) and MONO Bookkeeping (#34). Around the 30 spot, a few hundred to a thousand-plus yuan in daily revenue is probably enough (an inference, not verified).

So "breaking through" needs a caveat: what got it there is high ticket size, not user volume. One review says it most plainly: "Hope it lasts for years... I bought the lifetime membership to support it" (2026-07-29). This group skews older, has money, and is already planning for the long term. Paying a few hundred or a thousand-plus yuan once to never pay again feels natural to them.

Where users came from: WeChat first, iOS money second

iOS was the last platform it launched on, not the first.

  • WeChat mini-program and H5 went first. The site says H5, the WeChat mini-program and iOS are all live with cloud sync, and Android and desktop are in progress. Three days after iOS launched (7-15), someone commented "The mini-program is good, and small issues keep getting fixed": an existing user who came over from the mini-program. The developer account "比特罐罐" posted a demo video of the "AI analysis feature" on Douyin; by its video number, that's around late April. A Juejin post from Jul 2 carries the tag #股息罐罐, with copy matching the store's "a friend who makes time work," likely written by the developer. For domestic personal finance tools, WeChat is the traffic home. iOS is just the paid-user endpoint.
  • Users showing it off on Xueqiu. That's the kind of post that opened this piece: income investors gather on Xueqiu, and showing dividend progress is social currency, so the app name lands in the screenshot. The volume is small, but the audience is very precise.
  • App Store「你可能也喜欢」。它的推荐页里挂着股息通、财迹、FIRE 记账、股息流、持仓手记、股息笔记、攒息,这些 App 互相导流。搜「股息」「收息」时排第几,没查到。
  • Timing. A-share dividends plus buybacks hit 21k亿 yuan in 2026, 2.7x the same period's fundraising (East Money, citing CSRC 11-02); dividend-strategy ETFs are close to a hundred (Economic Reference Daily, 10-19). October is when mid-year dividends land, and that's when it started charting steadily and shipping nearly weekly (2 to 24 October: 7 releases, now at 11-05 1.0.42). It caught the dividend wave right on time.

What I didn't find: no paid ads, creator partnerships, press coverage, or X discussion.

Who's competing: a dozen-plus people landed on the same idea at once.

This opportunity was spotted by a batch of indie developers 2026 years ago.

股息罐罐 wasn't the earliest or the most-reviewed. Its edge over this group is threefold: it had a WeChat mini program entry point first (息记 and 财迹 are iOS only), it dared to sell a ¥999 lifetime tier, and it updates faster with finer accounting (B-shares, open-end funds, dividend-tax reconciliation). The features themselves don't clearly beat 息记.

Even the biggest player in the category has only 56 reviews. The demand is real, but the pool is small, and more than ten same-topic apps are already fighting over it.

If it were you

Bottom line: I wouldn't build yet another iOS dividend tracker to squeeze into this crowd of a dozen-plus. What's worth copying is the playbook: use a WeChat mini program to collect users, sell a high-priced lifetime tier on iOS, and turn the users' jargon into numbers they want to screenshot and share. That playbook could work for other niche-but-wealthy investor groups.

Who it fits: indie devs who are income investors or long-term investors themselves, understand A-share dividend accounting, and can build WeChat mini programs; or people who already run a bookkeeping mini program and want to add a paid tier.

Who it doesn't fit: anyone counting on user volume and ads (my estimate, not verified, is tens to hundreds of thousands of users, not tens of millions); people new to the space (users praise it as "very professional", and one wrong calculation gets you roasted); developers who only build iOS and skip WeChat.

How to do it:

  • Change the audience, keep the playbook. Convertible bonds, REITs, treasury repo, gold savings accounts, insurance dividends, Hong Kong Connect dividend income: these groups have the same "can't track it across platforms" pain, skew older, and are willing to pay one-time. Before building, check whether App Store already has same-topic apps. If not, go.
  • If you must do dividends, go after the side they've all neglected: Android. Nearly all of these are iOS only, and 股息罐罐's Android version is still in progress. Mainland China's middle-aged and older users are more Android-heavy (the Xueqiu user at the top is on Android).
  • Copy their pricing: a cheap monthly subscription to let people try, and a high-priced lifetime tier, clearly labeled as a one-time purchase with no more payments ever.

How to get users: Xueqiu is the home turf. Build a "dividend progress / cost yield" share card with the app name on it so users post it; have the developer keep a public Xueqiu log of their own live dividend portfolio. Add WeChat mini program search and group sharing. Douyin and Juejin work poorly for this crowd, and 股息罐罐's posts there get single-digit engagement.

When to move: the dividend hype is still running. After this 2026 dividend wave, the next peak comes when annual-report dividends land in 6–July next year. If you want in, build the product and grow the Xueqiu account before then.

What would show I got this wrong: if 股息罐罐 or 息记 climb to several hundred reviews in the next few months, or break into the top 10 in Finance, the audience is much bigger than I estimated, and same-topic followers still have time. Conversely, if their ranks stay out of the top 100 for long, the ¥999 lifetime tier was just a one-off gesture from a small group of early fans, and even that product can't sustain the model.

One line

A small Shanghai company (Shanghai Yunji Zhilian Technology, with just this one app) built a dividend-bookkeeping tool for dividend-collecting stock investors. It launched on WeChat Mini Program and H5 first, with the iOS app 2026-07-12 coming later. It ranks #30 on the China store's Finance Top Grossing chart, driven by a high-ticket lifetime membership (MAX lifetime ¥999) and a low bar to chart in mid-tier Finance categories, not by a large user base. The entire iOS app has only 10 ratings.

1. Data

  • Ratings: 10 in total, all 5-star. The latest review came in 2026-08-15,10-28 to 11-06, and the count hasn't moved since (appstore library app_day). AppInsider estimates "500+" global installs.
  • Top Grossing (China store Finance grossing, genre 6015, appstore library): 10-28 #139 → 10-29 #39 → 10-30 #59 → 10-31 #85 → 11-01 #116 → 11-02 #153 → 11-03 #36 → 11-04 #59 → 11-05 #35 → 11-06 #32. On 11-05 it also briefly charted on the Taiwan store's Finance grossing (#175). AppInsider first spotted it at #66 on 10-08.
  • How to read this curve: the rank spikes into the top 40 every few days, then slides back down. It's the classic shape of a few big one-time in-app purchases. A single ¥999 lifetime membership is enough to push it into the Finance top 40, and it falls back once there are no new purchases. The apps charting around 11-06 are 百事 AA 记账 (#31), 爆竹 K 线训练 (#33), and MONO 记账 (#34), all accounting or tool apps with real volume. So the bar for a Finance top 30 spot looks like a few hundred to a thousand-plus yuan in daily revenue (inference, not verified).
  • Pricing (App Store China page): PRO monthly ¥6 / annual ¥60; MAX monthly ¥12 / annual ¥120 / lifetime ¥999. US store list prices are PRO lifetime $69.99 and MAX lifetime $149.99. A reviewer wrote "bought the lifetime plan, supporting it" (2026-07-29).
  • Updates: as of 11-05 it has shipped 1.0.42, and since October it has put out a new version nearly every week (AppInsider timeline: 10-02 1.0.31,10-08, 09, 10, 13, 17, 24 released back to back, and 10-24 added "adapted for iPhone Duo"). Two reviews mention "updates come really fast."

2. Competitors (start with the competitors)

In 2026, a wave of "dividend / income / share-stacking / FIRE" bookkeeping apps appeared on the China App Store. Almost all were built by solo developers, nearly all launched within the last 2026 years. The App Store's "You might also like" section links them together (Guguja Jar's recommendation page includes Gu Tong, Cai Ji, FIRE Bookkeeping, Gu Liu, Chi Ji Shou Ji, Cai Ji Folio, Gu Xi Bi Ji, and Zan Xi).

Bottom line: this niche was discovered by a large crowd at the same time in 2026, and it's already crowded (10 apps on the same theme). Guguja Jar was neither the first nor the one with the most ratings.

3. Growth tactics (where users come from)

  • WeChat mini-program + H5 launched first, App later (confirmed). The official site lists H5 (app.gugujar.com), the WeChat mini-program, and iOS as live, with cloud sync, and Android and PC in progress. One 2026-07-15 review says "the mini-program is good, small issues keep getting fixed," meaning that three days after the iOS launch, people were already coming over from the mini-program. A Juejin post tagged #股息罐罐 (by author "好雨知时节3", signed "java junior cv coder", with copy matching the App Store tagline "a friend who grows with you over time", likely the developer himself) appeared on 2026-07-02, earlier than the iOS launch. Videos on the Douyin "Bi Te Guan Guan" account demoing the "Guguja Jar AI analysis" feature, going by the video IDs, date to around 2026-04-23, so the product had been running since at least April. In China, the real traffic entry point for personal finance tools is WeChat. iOS is just the paid-user endpoint.
  • Xueqiu organic word-of-mouth (confirmed, but tiny volume). 2026-08-29 A Xueqiu user, "zero-cost long-term holder of good stocks," posted their retirement account's dividend progress, writing that "the cost dividend yield on my Dividend Jar calculator is 7.74%," with 3 likes and 1 comments. Income investors gather on Xueqiu, and users posting their dividend screenshots is itself the distribution.
  • The developer posting on Juejin and Douyin themselves (confirmed): Juejin posts and Douyin feature demo videos, with very little engagement (Juejin: 1 likes).
  • App Store cross-recommendations (confirmed): under "You might also like," it cross-promotes with Xi Ji, Cai Ji, and others. Whether it ranks highly when searching "dividend" or "income" is unverified.
  • Timing: the high-dividend trend (confirmed as the broader backdrop). In 2026, A-share dividends and buybacks totaled 21k billion yuan, 2.7 times the same period's financing (CSRC Chairman Wu Qing, via Eastmoney 2026-11-02). Nearly a hundred dividend-strategy ETFs are now listed (Economic Information Daily 2026-10-19). October is when interim dividends are concentrated (Shanghai Securities News counted about 17B yuan in payouts from 68 companies after the holiday). Guguja Jar began charting steadily and updating weekly in October, right as this dividend wave hit.
  • What I didn't find: no ad spend, creator partnerships, media coverage, or X discussion (x-radar search for "Guguja Jar" returned 0 results), and no public TrustMRR revenue. There are some SEO spam pages online (for example, "my cousin's first download after the high school entrance exam was Guguja Jar"). These appear to be mass-generated by content farms scraping app names, not something the developer is paying for, and they bring no real traffic.

4. Why it took off

  1. The demand is real and growing: the A-share dividend and high-yield narrative has kept heating up for 2025-2026 years. People who accumulate shares for dividend income need a single ledger across brokers and markets (A-shares / HK / US / funds). Brokerage apps don't provide that, and before this people used Excel or tracked it manually on Xueqiu.
  2. The "breakout" by revenue is mainly pricing leverage: high-ticket lifetime memberships at ¥999 / ¥468 meet the low bar of the mid-tier Finance chart, so a handful of orders can push it into the top 40. These paying users skew older, have money, and value the long term. They're willing to pay to "use it for years" (review quotes: "hope it lasts for years," "bought the lifetime plan").
  3. Unified across three platforms, building users through WeChat first: the mini-program and H5 run first to gain users and feedback, then the iOS version takes over paid conversion. Single-platform iOS rivals (Xi Ji, Cai Ji) lack this WeChat entry point.
  4. Fast iteration, deep features: 42 versions, constantly adding A / B / HK / US / off-exchange funds, B-shares converted to RMB, dividend tax reconciliation, Alipay fund screenshot recognition, dividend-yield grids, FIRE progress, and gold accumulation. Reviews repeatedly praise it: "updates really are fast," "quite professional."

5. Differentiation

  • Compared with Xi Ji: the features largely overlap (screenshot import, dividend calendar, forecasts). Guguja Jar stands out with multi-platform WeChat mini-program / H5, B-share and off-exchange fund handling, a dividend-yield grid + buy/sell prices set by target yield, gold accumulation, and a one-time lifetime purchase. Xi Ji is stronger on valuation and fundamental analysis, and it has more ratings.
  • Compared with Cai Ji: Cai Ji launched earlier and has more ratings. Guguja Jar has a lifetime tier and a mini-program.
  • Compared with brokerage apps: aggregates across accounts, and uses the income-collector's own language: "income progress / break-even / FIRE."
  • Is differentiation the reason it broke out? Partly. What separates it from a dozen similar apps is "build it up in WeChat first, then monetize with an iOS lifetime membership," plus rapid iteration. The features alone don't clearly beat Xi Ji. Its "breakout" is only a paid chart position, with a very small user base (10 iOS ratings), so calling it a breakout needs heavy caveats.

6. Visibility

Almost no one knows about it yet. No media coverage, 0 results on X, and no public revenue. Scattered posts on Xueqiu, Juejin, and Douyin each get single-digit engagement. Similar apps are already crowded (see the copycats below).

7. Copycats

Gu Liu (2026-07-25), Zan Xi (2026-09-15), FireFly dividend-stacking (2026 years), Gu Ta Deng Tai (2026-06-29), Gu Xi Bi Ji (2026-04-27). These launched around the same time or slightly later, each with 0~1 ratings. They aren't clearly copying it. It looks more like the whole niche flooded in together.

8. What to borrow

  • Domestic finance or bookkeeping tools: WeChat mini-program / H5 first to win users and feedback, iOS as the paid endpoint, with accounts unified across the three platforms.
  • Middle-aged and older, long-term-minded users: high-ticket lifetime buyouts, where only a few paying users are enough to show up on the mid-tier Finance grossing chart.
  • Turns users' jargon into features (break-even progress, cost dividend yield, FIRE coverage months, dividend-yield grid), then gets users to share screenshots on Xueqiu.

9. Uncertain

  • The user numbers and revenue of the WeChat mini-program (where the bulk may sit): no data.
  • Actual revenue behind Top Grossing #32: inferred at a few hundred to a thousand-plus yuan a day based on chart position, unverified. How many lifetime memberships were actually sold: unknown.
  • The RMB price of the PRO lifetime tier (US store $69.99; this tier wasn't captured on the China page).
  • Follower count of the Douyin "Bi Te Guan Guan" account, and whether it runs Qianchuan or Xiaohongshu ads: not found. Discussion volume on Xiaohongshu can't be searched.
  • Company background (Shanghai Yunji Zhilian): no business registration information found.
