AMA : Life Auspicious Calendar(AMA ปฏิทินชีวิต / AMA อาม่า) · kritsana sucheethong

A Thai "auspicious date calendar" got onto the Productivity charts: AMA packs 15 kinds of fortune-telling into one calendar. The pool is small, but the playbook can be copied

What it is A Thai fortune-telling app. On the outside it's a calendar that tells you which days are lucky and which are unlucky; inside it's a dozen-plus divination methods and an AI "grandma," monetized through subscriptions and credits.

Why it took off Instead of entering the crowded lifestyle category where fortune-telling apps cluster, it was packaged as a planning tool and placed in Productivity, where a few hundred ratings were enough to reach the Top Grossing chart. Add an all-in-one app with no ads and a daily lucky/unlucky day push, and people will pay monthly.

BHow you could follow it Take the same playbook to markets with a tradition of choosing auspicious days: Vietnam, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Chinese-Malaysian communities. Start with a free lucky-day calendar and daily push notifications, then make BaZi, compatibility readings, and AI Q&A into credit-based add-ons, and drive traffic through memes in local metaphysics communities.

Grade B: the playbook is clear, few people know about it, and there are no copycats yet; other markets with a tradition of choosing auspicious days remain open. But any single country's pool is small, AMA's own rating growth has slowed and its revenue isn't visible, doing it well requires real knowledge of local divination, and it has to clear Apple's review for fortune-telling apps. Few people know about it yet

A solo Thai developer, August, launched an app called AMA. The shell is a "which days are lucky, which are unlucky" calendar; inside are Thai astrology, BaZi, Korean Saju, Indian Vedic astrology, tarot, and an AI you can "ask grandma." Instead of entering the crowded lifestyle category where fortune-telling apps cluster, it sits in Productivity, and stayed on the Thai Productivity Top Grossing chart for over six weeks. Its scale is still small and growth is slowing. What's worth watching is the playbook: the calendar as the entry point, push notifications to pull users back, subscriptions plus credits to collect money. No one is running this in other markets with a tradition of choosing auspicious days yet.

"Yesterday it suddenly notified me that tomorrow is an unlucky day"

In 2026 Oct 5, a Thai user gave AMA 1 stars with the title "Notifications are terrible": "Yesterday it suddenly popped up a notification saying tomorrow is วันกาลกิณี (an unlucky day). Notifications like this are unconstructive; they only make you anxious, and I don't see the point. Wouldn't it be better to let people open the app themselves?"

A month earlier, Sep 3, another user gave 5 stars: "I've always wanted an app like this, with everything, showing the daily star readings and the auspicious hours each day. After using it for a few days I found it also reminds you of good and bad days. No ads (hope you never add any). The apps I used before charged me almost every time I looked at something, and they were expensive."

The two reviews are about the same feature. A daily push saying "tomorrow is good/avoid" annoys some people and makes others open the app every day. A calendar became a daily habit that way, and that's where AMA's business started.

What it is

On the App Store it's called "AMA : Life Auspicious Calendar"; on Google Play, "AMA อาม่า : ปฏิทิน ฤกษ์มงคล" (Grandma: auspicious calendar). อาม่า is how Thai-Chinese families address a grandmother, and "ask grandma" is the AI Q&A inside the app.

The homepage reads "15+ divination methods packed into one app": Thai astrology, Mahasattha, BaZi, Saju, Vedic astrology, numerology, Western astrology, compatibility readings, Feng Shui Bazhai and Xuankong Flying Stars, palmistry. When you open the app, the first thing you see is a lucky/unlucky calendar, each day color-coded by how favorable it is, so you can read a whole month at a glance; it also marks moon phases, Buddhist holy days, and public holidays, and you can switch between Thai, Chinese, or both. Below that are five daily fortune readings (career, wealth, love, health, side income), a "life curve" plotting ages 15 to 90, plus compatibility readings and "countries that suit you."

The site makes a point of saying: "No AI fortune-telling; the program calculates charts from classical texts. AI only helps in some features by phrasing answers so they're easier to read." The line is aimed at users' suspicion that AI just makes things up.

The developer account is an individual's name, kritsana sucheethong. It has only this one app, listed on iOS in 2026 Aug 18, and on Google Play the next day. On LinkedIn he's a software engineer at a Bangkok company, with past work on top-up and virtual-gift systems for a live-streaming platform, plus server-side work on a game with gacha mechanics. AMA's monetization resembles that background (inference).

Why it's listed under Productivity

This is the main reason it could chart at all.

Nov 6 Thai Productivity Top Grossing: ahead of it are ChatGPT, Claude, Gmail, VPN, and CamScanner. #29 is Num Eiang (ปฏิทินมงคลน่ำเอี๊ยง), a 80-year-old Chinese almanac brand, with only 387 ratings on iOS Thailand. #44 is another lucky-day app, LockDay, with 683 ratings. AMA sits at #48,344. Very few Productivity apps can collect money from local users, and a few hundred ratings plus a bit of in-app spending per day is enough to reach the top 50.

Move it to Lifestyle and the picture changes. On the same day, the fortune-telling app "a ดวง", #43 in Thai Lifestyle Top Grossing, has 7,277 ratings, and "ดวง Live", which connects you to live human fortune-tellers, has 20,561. Both are one to two orders of magnitude above AMA. The same revenue in Lifestyle probably wouldn't reach the top 100 (inference).

Filing it under Productivity also has a benefit. The English store description is all about "turning goals into plans" and "seeing the days ahead"; divination gets a single line about "cultural belief systems" and "personalized perspectives." Apple reviews new astrology and fortune apps strictly and often rejects them as "duplicative." Framing it as a planning tool probably also helps it get approved (inference).

AMA's category and its lucky-day calendar positioning are largely copied from Num Eiang. The difference is that Num Eiang only covers Chinese date selection and lucky colors, while AMA includes five systems (Thai, Chinese, Korean, Indian, Western), so both Thai-Chinese and ordinary Thai users have a reason to open it.

The numbers: small, and slowing down

  • Chart: From Oct 28 to Nov 6 it stayed on the Thai Productivity Top Grossing chart, bouncing between #26 and #78. On Nov 3 it peaked at #26 on Top Grossing and was #50 on Top Free that day. On Nov 6 it was back to #48 Grossing and #129 Free. Thailand only. The third-party chart tracker AppInsider recorded it at #25 on Productivity Top Grossing already on Sep 50, and it held that spot for about six weeks. The reason for the spike on November 2 and 3 is unclear.
  • Ratings: Nov 6, Thailand: 344 ratings, average 4.86. It collected 28 ratings in the 71 days from launch to Oct 328, averaging 4.6 per day; in the 9 days after that it added only 16, under 2 a day.
  • Android: Google Play 1,000+ installs, 4.8 stars (11-06). On Play, Num Eiang has 328k installs.

The only thing that can be confirmed is that people in Thailand will pay a monthly fee for this kind of app. It's too early to say it has "taken off."

Where users come from

  • Content on X, @amaapp8. The account was created in April 2026, four months before the app launched. By early November it had about 800 posts and fewer than 1,000 followers. The posts are list-style threads and memes that Thai X's fortune-telling crowd (สายมู) loves to repost, such as "Western rising signs most likely to get dumped" and "Want a 'golden retriever' boyfriend? First check your 7th house 9 baseline, then see 'Pattaya 4.'" Each post links to a specific feature in the app, like the question "Where will my true love come from?" in the "Ask Grandma" feature. Thai X is the main home for fortune content, and this channel costs almost nothing.
  • App Store search. In Oct 19 the Thai App Store name changed from "AMA ปฏิทินชีวิต" (life calendar) to the current English name, and the screenshots and description were changed with it (AppInsider). The Android name includes search terms like "ปฏิทิน" (calendar) and "ฤกษ์มงคล" (auspicious time).
  • Push retention. This is the feature the two opening reviews mention: daily lucky and unlucky day alerts.
  • Other channels are nearly empty. Instagram @amaapp8 has only 12 followers and 5 posts; the Facebook page has single-digit followers; searching its name on TikTok turns up no relevant videos. No evidence of paid ads was found, but not finding it doesn't mean it wasn't run.

Where the money comes from

Two tracks (App Store Thailand prices):

What's soldPricingWhat you get
Ama Pro subscription฿79/month, ฿599/yearLucky colors for every month, undated fortune readings, Western astrology
Credit packs฿29 / 59 / 99 / 149 / 299 / 599Tarot draws, "Ask Grandma," in-depth reports, deducted per use

The website also has a page for topping up credits, which avoids Apple's commission.

Both tracks running side by side does get people paying, and it draws complaints too. In Sep 4, a 4-star review: "I thought Pro unlocked everything; turns out you still have to buy credits separately." In Oct 3, a 1-star review: "ChatGPT is more accurate for free, and you still have to pay, and tarot costs credits too." In Sep 5, a 4-star review said the readings sounded "very AI," with too much jargon: "If you're paying, you should get more than an explanation of where the stars are."

Actual revenue can't be confirmed. Thai Productivity Top Grossing ranks #26 to #78 correspond to modest daily revenue. My estimate is tens to a hundred or two dollars a day in in-app purchases (rough guess, low confidence).

If it were you

Verdict: Worth trying. What's worth copying is the playbook, not the product itself. Use a daily calendar as the free entry point, push alerts to bring people back, wrap it in a "planning tool" shell to get into a low-barrier category, then collect money through subscriptions and credits. Thailand alone is a small pool, and AMA itself is slowing down. But other markets with date-selection and almanac traditions don't yet have this "all-in-one divination plus calendar" product.

Good fit for: developers who understand a local divination tradition (or can find partners who do), who can build iOS in-app purchases and subscriptions, and who can write memes in the local language.

Bad fit for: anyone who only wants to build an English astrology app, since Western astrology is already crowded; anyone unwilling to touch the controversial "unlucky day alerts" experience; and anyone hoping for quick big money. In one country, this category tops out at a few hundred ratings and a bit of in-app spending per day.

How to do it:

  1. Market choices: Vietnam (lunar date selection and day-picking traditions), Chinese communities in Indonesia and Malaysia, Taiwan, Hong Kong. Start by checking local App Store Productivity and Lifestyle Top Grossing charts to see where local lucky-day and almanac apps rank and how many ratings they have. If the top 50 in Productivity can be reached with only a few hundred ratings, the pool is as empty as Thailand's.
  2. Product: Start with the lucky/unlucky calendar and daily fortune layer, free and pushed every day. Make BaZi, compatibility readings, and AI Q&A paid credits. Don't launch 15 features at once; start with the one or two that locals trust most.
  3. Put "calculated by the program, AI only does the wording" in the most visible spot. That's what users care about most. AI answers should read like plain language; AMA's complaints are about too much jargon.
  4. Make subscriptions and credits clear. State on the paywall what Pro includes and what credits buy. AMA got bad reviews here.

How to get users: Follow @amaapp8's example: post list threads and memes on the platforms where the local fortune crowd is most active (X in Thailand; Threads and Dcard in Taiwan; Facebook and TikTok in Vietnam, most likely). Each post should point to a specific feature in the app. Put local search terms for "calendar," "lucky day," and "almanac" in the store name.

When to move: No need to rush, but earlier is better. A pool like this only has room for one or two winners per country, and whoever takes the calendar slot first builds the push habit. Demand for date selection peaks around Lunar New Year, so launching before January 2027 could catch a wave.

Signs you've misjudged it: Two or three months after launch, you still can't crack the top 100 in Productivity Top Grossing in your target market, or most reviews say "not accurate" or "can't understand." Either the pool is less empty than it looks, or the localization isn't deep enough. Also, if Apple rejects your fortune app as "duplicative" and the calendar shell doesn't get past review either, this path is closed in that market.

Why AMA : Life Auspicious Calendar (AMA ปฏิทินชีวิต / AMA อาม่า) made it onto the charts

One line

A Thai-language "auspicious calendar + full-spectrum fortune-telling" app: it uses a "lucky-day calendar / daily good-bad colour" as a free entry point, then packs in Thai astrology, BaZi, Saju, Vedic, tarot, fortune sticks, dream interpretation, palm reading, feng shui compass and "Ask Grandma" AI Q&A, monetised through credit packs plus a subscription. It charts in the Thai-store Productivity Top Grossing mainly because it sits in a category with a very low bar, plus a product shape of "one app covers 15 divination systems, lots of free content, no ads". Growth tactics are basic (X content account + store search) and scale is still small.

1. What the data shows

  • Charts (our appstore library, Thai store): from 2026-10-28 to 11-06 it stayed on the Productivity Top Grossing chart, floating between ranks 26–78; 11-02/11-03 it hit Top Grossing #28 / #26 and Top Free #37 / #50, then fell back, and 11-06 it was Top Grossing #48 and Top Free #129. Only listed in the Thai store. AppInsider recorded that when first seen 2026-09-25 it was already at Thai-store Productivity Top Grossing #50, suggesting it had held that spot for about 6 weeks.
  • Rating count (library + iTunes lookup): 11-06 has 344 ratings in total (347 on the day of lookup), averaging 4.86. Since launch on 10-28, it has picked up 328 ratings over 71 days (about 4.6 per day). Since 10-28, it has added only 16 over the last 9 days (about 1.8 per day), so growth has clearly slowed. AppInsider also reports "new weekly ratings at 32, down 70% from the previous two weeks." The US store has only 2 ratings.
  • Google Play: package name com.muteluapp.ama, developer MuteluApp (this is its only app), listed 2026-08-19, 1,000+ installs, rated 4.8 stars (scraped from the Play store page 2026-11-06). Our googleplay library doesn't have it (it was never charted on Play; AppInsider notes the Android version dropped off all charts after 10-11).
  • How low the bar is: on the same day, Thai-store Productivity Top Grossing #29 was the long-running "ปฏิทินมงคลน่ำเอี๊ยง / Num Eiang Astrolendar", which has only 387 iOS Thai-store ratings; #44 LockDay has 683 Thai-store ratings. Ahead of them are ChatGPT, Claude, Gmail, VPNs and CamScanner. In other words, the Productivity category has very few revenue-earning local apps, and a few hundred ratings plus a little in-app purchasing is enough to reach the top 50. For comparison, fortune-telling apps on the Thai-store Lifestyle Top Grossing chart (a ดวง with #43,7,277 ratings; ดวง Live with 20,561) are one to two orders of magnitude bigger.

3. Where users come from

  1. X content account @amaapp8 (existence confirmed, effect unknown): the account registered 2026-04 (4 months before the app launched), with roughly 808 posts and 967 followers (Jina scrape of x.com/amaapp8). The content is zodiac memes and listicles that do well on Thai X ("which rising sign is most likely to get dumped", "if your ideal type is a golden-retriever puppy, look at Patani 4"); each post points to a specific feature in the app (for example, "where will I meet my soulmate" under Ask Grandma), and it also appears inside hot discussion threads on Thai X. Thai X is the main arena of the สายมู (fortune-telling) crowd, and this is the cheapest channel.
  2. Store search / category placement (changes confirmed): 10-19 changed the Thai-store name from "AMA ปฏิทินชีวิต" to "AMA : Life Auspicious Calendar", swapping the screenshots and description too (AppInsider timeline); on Play the name is "AMA อาม่า : ปฏิทิน ฤกษ์มงคล", stuffed with search terms like "ปฏิทิน (calendar)" and "ฤกษ์มงคล (auspicious time)". It sits in Productivity rather than Lifestyle/Entertainment: first, the Top Grossing bar there is low and making the top 50 is enough to be seen; second, the English description is framed as a "planning tool", and the divination features are glossed over with wording like "cultural belief systems" and "personalized perspectives", probably also to get past Apple's review of fortune-telling apps (inferred).
  3. Retention lever: push notifications: a daily push of lucky and unlucky days (a bad review: "yesterday it suddenly pushed that tomorrow is an unlucky day, which only makes you anxious"); good reviews also say "after using it for a few days I found it sends good and bad days". Pushes turn the "calendar" into a reason to open it every day.
  4. IG / FB / TikTok / Lemon8: IG @amaapp8 has only 12 followers and 5 posts; TikHub searches for "แอปอาม่า", "AMA ปฏิทินชีวิต" and "ama ดูดวง" found no related videos; the "ดูดวงกับอาม่า" posts on Lemon8 are about a different fortune-telling service, not this one.
  5. Paid acquisition: no evidence found (our Meta ad library doesn't index by Thai keywords, so not finding ads doesn't mean there were none). The reason 11-02/03 climbed the chart is unclear.
  6. Directory listings: astrodir, Softonic, CNET, apppage and AppInsider all have pages, and they look auto-generated; they don't count as a channel.

4. Why people stay and pay

  • All-in-one + lots of free content + no ads: the official site says "ศาสตร์ทำนาย 15+, ดวงกำเนิด 7 ศาสตร์, สมพงษ์ 17 ศาสตร์"; features include a lucky-day calendar, 5 daily fortune categories, a life curve (ages 15–90), compatibility readings, BaZi/Saju/Vedic, a feng shui compass, "countries that suit you", personal mantras, and MBTI/Enneagram/Big Five. A good review in its own words: "I've always wanted an app like this, it has everything... no ads... other apps make you pay almost every time you look, and it's expensive".
  • "The program computes charts from classical texts, the AI only handles wording": the official site explicitly says "no AI fortune-telling, the AI just helps make the answers easier to read", responding to users' distrust of AI making things up; but some negative reviews say it reads "very AI" and "too much jargon to follow".
  • Money comes from two places: the Ama Pro subscription (App Store price ฿79/month, ฿599/year, unlocking lucky colours for every month, unlimited daily fortune, and Western astrology) plus credit packs (฿29–599; tarot, Ask Grandma and in-depth reports deduct credits per use). The official site also has a web top-up for credits (ama.muteluapp.com/en/topup) that sidesteps the store's commission. Negative reviews like "I pay for tarot draws with credits too" and "I subscribed to Pro thinking I got everything, but unlocking still needs separately bought credits" show that the dual-track pricing does get people paying, and also irritates some of them.
  • The developer background lines up: the developer's LinkedIn profile lists them as a software engineer at Donuts Bangkok, having worked on "top-up and virtual gifts for live-streaming platforms" and "game server backends with gacha mechanics". Credits plus subscription is very likely drawn from that experience (inferred; whether it's a side project or has a team behind it is unverified).
  • Ratings look high: the average is 4.86, but among the 9 text reviews visible, 3 are 1-star; likely the app prompts users to rate (unverified).

5. What the differentiation is, and whether it explains the breakout

  • Differentiation: (1) the shape is a three-in-one of "lucky-day calendar + full-spectrum fortune-telling + AI Q&A", covering five systems (Thai, Chinese, Korean, Indian, Western), which suits both Thai-Chinese users and ordinary Thais; competitors are either single-brand almanacs (Num Eiang), the human fortune-telling market (ดวง Live / a ดวง), or single-feature small apps. (2) It's packaged as a planning tool and sits in the Productivity category. (3) No ads; lots of free content; revenue from subscription plus credits.
  • Is that the reason: partly. "One app covers it all + no ads" is named in reviews as a reason to stay; but getting onto the chart depends more on how low the Productivity bar is in the Thai store. It probably wouldn't reach the top 100 with the same revenue in Lifestyle (inferred from the rating scale of comparable apps in Lifestyle). Its current scale (about 350 iOS ratings, 1,000+ Play installs) is far smaller than Num Eiang (330k Play installs), so it's too early to say it has "broken through"; a more accurate description is a small local product that has shown, in a small pool, that people will pay.

6. Visibility

Few people know about it yet: no press coverage, no public revenue figures, the X account has under 1,000 followers, IG has 12 followers, and it can't be found on TikTok.

VII. What others can borrow

  • Using "calendar/planning" as a shell for divination: switching categories gets you onto a low-barrier top grossing chart and may make review easier; daily good/bad-day pushes give people a reason to open it every day.
  • The "program computes charts from classical texts + AI only handles wording" claim both answers users' doubts about AI making things up and keeps content costs down.
  • Subscription + credits dual track, plus a web top-up, to skip store commissions.
  • This model can be copied straight to the Chinese-speaking communities of Vietnam, Indonesia, and Malaysia, plus Taiwan and Hong Kong: all have date-selection and almanac culture, and no local "all-in-one + calendar" product exists yet.
  • Pitfall: selling credits separately from the subscription draws bad reviews; pushing bad-luck days draws user backlash.

8. What's still uncertain

  • Actual revenue is unknown (the daily revenue for Productivity #26–78 can't be confirmed).
  • Why 11-02/11-03 climbed the charts (an event? creator posts? paid ads?).
  • Whether they run ads on Meta / TikTok in Thailand.
  • Whether it's an individual or a small team behind it. The card says it's part of a "mutelu family (same family as iMu)", but this could not be confirmed: the Play developer MuteluApp has only AMA under its name, iMu's package name is com.tngroupsoft.mutelujournal from a different developer, and the two only share "mutelu" (Thai for "superstition") in their names.
  • How much of 4.9's average rating was solicited.
