₩149,000 a month for a traffic-light signal: Korean stock-signal app "에이오" hits #21 on the Top Grossing chart, but it hasn't really taken off
What it is A Korean app for stock and crypto status: each holding gets a color (blue for uptrend starting, green for holding, orange for slowing, red for ending). Samsung and Bitcoin are free to watch; tracking your own stocks costs ₩29,900–149,000 a month based on the number of monitoring slots.
Why it climbed It hasn't really taken off. The Korean iOS finance Top Grossing chart has a very low bar. Its rank went from 10 over 47 days to 197,11-06, and one expensive subscription pushes it back to 21. Its only acquisition channel is an Instagram content account that almost nobody engages with.
DHow you could follow it Don't copy the category. Borrow the pricing (free preset monitored items, with paid slots by count and monthly billing) and the messaging (state, not buy/sell), and apply them to a monitoring or alerts tool where you already have an audience.

The Korean app "에이오 (AO)" uses four colors (blue, green, orange, red) to tell you where your stocks or coins stand in their move. 11-06 it reached #21 on the Korean App Store finance Top Grossing chart. The rank looks good, but across all platforms it has only 1 ratings, and Google Play shows just 100 downloads. The Korean finance Top Grossing chart has a very low bar: one or two people buying the priciest monthly plan can push a rank up. What's worth looking at is two design choices, not its scale.
A Reel with 1 likes
In Nov 2, the Instagram account @assetorbit_ao (display name "에이오 - 심플한 투자", meaning "AO - Simple Investing") posted another Reel. The account's topics hit where Korean retail investors hurt most: "What do you do when you're stuck at the top?", "You thought it was the bottom, and there's a basement below," "I took profit at 5%, and then what happened?", "I watched charts for a year and my account didn't move." It also mixes in celebrity stories like "an investment contest winner made 155% in a year." Each video ends with the same line: to see where your stocks stand, search "에이오" in the App Store or Play; the profile link offers a free ebook, "에이오 Investing Guide for Stock Market Beginners."
As of 11-06, that Reel had 1 likes and 0 comments. The other 4 I checked also showed "No comments yet." The content keeps coming, but almost nobody is watching.
What it is
Built by Asset Orbit (주식회사 에셋오비트), a small company in Seoul's Seocho district, which has only this one app. The iOS version launched 2026-08-08, and the last update in Oct was 1 1.3.2.
Open the app and each asset gets one color: BLUE for uptrend starting, GREEN for uptrend holding, ORANGE for uptrend slowing, RED for uptrend ending. It covers Korean stocks, US stocks, Korean/US ETFs, and crypto, with a summary pushed daily at 12 noon. A "today's market signals" section picks 20 assets from each of five categories and colors them. There's also a "recently missed rallies" list: free users see part of it, and the full list sorted by gain requires payment. The store description and terms of service repeatedly state that this is not investment advice, not automated trading, and not a guarantee of returns.
How it charges, per Article 6 of the terms of service (assetorbitai.com, 11-06):
| Tier | Monitoring slots | Monthly fee |
|---|---|---|
| Free | 2 (Samsung and Bitcoin are fixed and can't be changed) | 0 |
| Silver | 3 (2 free + 1 chosen) | ₩29,900 (about $21) |
| Gold | 5 (2 free + 3 chosen) | ₩69,900 |
| Diamond | 7 (2 free + 5 chosen) | ₩99,900 |
| Star | 12 (2 free + 10 chosen) | ₩149,000 (about $105) |
Plans renew monthly automatically, and you can hold only one tier at a time. Each paid slot can switch its asset at most 3 times a month, and one account can be logged in on only one device at a time. In other words, to see the colors for a single stock you hold, you start at ₩29,000 a month.
How it reached #21
Its rank on the Korean App Store finance Top Grossing chart over these 10 days went like this:
| 10-28 | 10-29 | 10-30 | 10-31 | 11-01 | 11-02 | 11-03 | 11-04 | 11-05 | 11-06 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 47 | 56 | 79 | 109 | 132 | 153 | 166 | 182 | 197 | 21 |
It didn't recover on any of the nine days. It slid steadily, which suggests almost no new payments came in during that stretch. 11-06 jumping to 21 means one or a few payments came in the day before. At its price list, one person subscribing to one tier at ₩149,000 would be enough (inference). Since it's a monthly subscription, the jump could also be an early-October auto-renewal from an existing user (inference).
How hard this chart is to climb shows in the neighbors. 코인기출, launched in the second half of the year, has only 2 ratings and ranked 129→25→155; 오늘의 종목 has 5 ratings and went 168→27→87; SubIQ has zero ratings and still reached 38. So #21 shows that "someone occasionally spends big," not "there's a base of steady paying users." The 10-day rating count of 0 new ratings (App Store Korea, 10-28 to 11-06) and Google Play's 100+ downloads (11-06) fit that read. How it sold from 8 through October isn't visible from outside.
Where users come from
There's only one path visible: an Instagram content account, a free ebook, and "search 에이오 in the store." The problem is that "에이오" is a generic term, so searching in the store pulls in unrelated results, and it's hard to say how many people it really reaches. No media has covered it, nobody has mentioned it on X in nearly 90 days, I couldn't find a TikTok account for it, and the founders have never shown their faces. I haven't confirmed whether it runs ads on Meta, Naver, or Kakao, so I can't rule that out.
Who it's competing with
The Korean stock-signal app space is already crowded:
| Competitors | Scale | How it differs from 에이오 |
|---|---|---|
| 라씨 매매비서(Thinkpool) | Launched 2021 years ago; iOS has 89 ratings and peaked at #12 on finance Top Grossing; in May 2026 years ago it hit #1 on Google Play's finance Top Grossing (etnews); about 60k members | Shows AI buy/sell points and price levels outright; monthly fee about ₩59,000,3; a few stocks are free to pick from |
| 알파스퀘어 | 395 ratings, peaked at #29 on finance Top Grossing | A general market analysis tool, not just a single color |
| MK시그널, AI시그널프로, Chart AI Pro, and others | 15–26 ratings, Top Grossing ranks #31–#47 | Sells "AI predictions" and "buy/sell signals" |
| 포끼 Fokki | Indie developer, launched 2026-10-13, posted on GeekNews and Disquiet | Also pushes alerts only when the signal changes, but gives buy/sell/hold verdicts with AI-written reasons attached |
| Toss Securities "AI Signal" | Toss Securities, all users, free | Explains why prices move (news, announcements), and it lives right inside the app users already check their holdings in |
| TradingView and StockCharts' traffic-light indicator | Free | Red/yellow/green trend display as a format has existed for a long time |
The difference between AO and these is mostly in the wording: it doesn't say "buy" or "sell," only "status"; it splits the trend into a four-stage "rise lifecycle"; and it charges per slot. The underlying engine is probably standard indicators like moving averages and momentum (inferred).
What it got right
Two design choices are worth taking.
The first is pricing. The free slots are fixed by the company as Samsung Electronics and Bitcoin, so users see colors changing right after install with zero setup, and trust the tool first. To watch their own stocks, they have to pay, and slots are added one at a time. This "free sample, charge by number of monitored assets" structure can move to any tool that "watches something and alerts you on change": watching prices, competitors, rankings. Ratings-style apps do the opposite, with only 3 stock free to pick freely. Which converts better is something AO hasn't answered yet.
The second is wording. Calling "signals" "status" removes the wariness retail investors feel toward stock tips, and probably also dodges Korea's "investment advisory" (유사투자자문업) registration requirement (inferred; we haven't verified whether it registered). The line "one push a day, stop opening it several times a day to check quotes" speaks to people who don't have time to watch the market during work.
If it were you
D: Just know it exists; don't follow it. It hasn't taken off on its own; the only growth signal is an occasional spike on a very low-bar chart. Korean stock-signal apps already have veterans like Thinkpool and Toss, plus new ones that appear every month. The core product is a free public indicator with a different label.
Good fit for: people who already have a content account and trust within a retail investor community in some country, who want a low-cost subscription tool for their audience; or people building other "monitor / alert" products who want to borrow this slot-pricing model.
Bad fit for: people who want to copy a Korean stock traffic-light app and count on organic store traffic; people without content or paid-acquisition capability; people unwilling to take on investment-compliance risk.
How to do it: borrow the pricing and the wording, not the category. Pick a vertical where you can reach users, give one or two preset monitored assets free so people see the effect with zero setup, and charge per count for custom picks. Copy should only say "what state it's in now," never "should buy or sell."
How to acquire users: AO has shown that content alone without paid ads doesn't get off the ground. The funnel of pain-point topics + founder story + free e-book hook is fine on its own, but it needs ad spend, or a start from an account that already has followers.
Timing: no window here; this is not an opportunity that is currently opening.
What would mean I got it wrong: ① 에이오's rating climbs to dozens or hundreds over a few months and it holds the top 30 on the bestseller chart without dropping. That would mean the "state, not signal" pitch really sells, and it's worth copying in other markets (Japan, Taiwan retail investors). ② It starts paid acquisition at scale and its rank holds. That would mean the funnel was only missing money. ③ Korean regulators start investigating this kind of "signal app." Then the "state" framing is a real barrier, and it's even more worth studying.

에이오 (AO, Asset Orbit): a Korean subscription app that shows the "rise stage" of holdings with four-color signal lights
Bottom line: it hasn't really taken off. Its recall rests on "#21 on Korea iOS finance Top Grossing," but that chart has a very low bar, and this rank was most likely propped up by one or two high-priced in-app purchases. Within 10 days the rank fell steadily from 47 to 197,11-06, then jumped back to 21 in a single day. That is the classic "single transaction, then daily decay" curve. Across all platforms there are 1 ratings, 100+ Google Play downloads, and each Instagram Reel gets about 1 likes and 0 comments. What's worth looking at isn't the volume but two design choices: the "status signal, not buy/sell advice" framing and product form, and the pricing of "2 free slots plus premium paid slots."

Product form: each asset gets one status: BLUE rise beginning, GREEN rise continuing, ORANGE rise slowing (pullback), RED rise ended. By default you get 2 permanently free monitoring slots, preset to Samsung Electronics and Bitcoin; to watch your own picks (Korean stocks, US stocks, Korean/US ETFs, crypto) you have to buy paid slots. One summary push a day at 12 noon. "Today's market signals" colors 20 assets in each of 5 asset classes; "AO report" shows the "recent missed rises" for free, while the full list sorted by gain requires a paid tier. Restricted to users aged 20 and up. The description repeatedly stresses "not investment advice, not automated trading, no predictions." (App Store description, assetorbitai.com/service.html)
2. Chart data: how this "#21" rank came about
appstore library app_day, kr, finance (6015) Top Grossing chart, numbers are ranks:
| 10-28 | 10-29 | 10-30 | 10-31 | 11-01 | 11-02 | 11-03 | 11-04 | 11-05 | 11-06 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 47 | 56 | 79 | 109 | 132 | 153 | 166 | 182 | 197 | 21 |
- The rank fell smoothly the whole way with no daily rebound, meaning there was essentially no new revenue during that stretch. On 11-06 it suddenly jumped to 21, which means one (or a few) payments came in between 11-05 and 11-06. If there's a ₩149,000 tier, a single purchase is enough to push it up that far.
- On the same chart, small apps launched in the second half of 2026 show exactly the same "spike, then decay" curve: 코인기출 (2 ratings) 129→25→155; 오늘의 종목 (5 ratings) 168→27→87; Daak 2 (1 ratings) 184→30→159; SubIQ (0 ratings) 200→38. Getting into the top 40 takes only 0 to 2 ratings, which shows how low the bar is.
- For comparison, established products: 라씨 매매비서 (Thinkpool, launched 2021 years ago, 89 ratings) peaked at about #12 over this period; 알파스퀘어 (395 ratings) #29; MK시그널 #31.
- So AO's current rank shows that "someone occasionally spends big," not that it has steady subscription revenue. We don't have data from before 2026-10-28, so we can't tell how it sold in 8–October.
3. Competitors
| Competitors | Platform | Launched | Scale | How AO differs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 라씨 매매비서(Thinkpool) | iOS/Android, also partnered with Kiwoom Securities | 2021-03 | In our library, its best kr finance Top Grossing rank is #12 with 89 ratings; 2026-05 reached #1 on Google Play finance Top Grossing (etnews 2026-05-06); about 60k members (AI Times interview); monthly subscription about ₩59,000,3. Stocks free | Explicitly gives "AI buy/sell signals" with specific price levels, covering all stocks; AO deliberately avoids saying buy or sell and only says "what state it's in" |
| 초이스스탁US | Web + app | Already live | US stock AI buy/sell signals and stock picks; first month ₩9,900, annual ₩300,000 | US stocks only, and also picks stocks; AO spans Korean stocks, US stocks, ETFs and crypto, and doesn't pick stocks |
| 알파스퀘어 | iOS/Android | 2021-06 | 395 ratings, peaked at #29 on finance Top Grossing | All-in-one market, analysis and portfolio tool; AO gives just one color |
| MK시그널, AI시그널프로, Chart AI Pro, 베스트웨이, etc. | iOS | 2023–2025 | Finance Top Grossing ranks 31–47, 15–26 ratings | Same pitch as the AI prediction/buy-sell signal apps; AO positions itself as "no predictions" |
| Fokki 포끼 (indie dev) | iOS/Android | 2026-10-13 | Posted on GeekNews Show GN (2026-10-20), Disquiet; very small scale | Closest in philosophy: it also pushes only when the signal changes, but gives buy/sell/hold with LLM-written reasoning attached. AO shows four trend states and sends one update a day. |
| 코인기출, 오늘의 종목, 주도주 포착기, Zenith AI, etc. | iOS | 2026 | 0–5 ratings; the Top Grossing rank bounces around on a handful of purchases | Same category as AO: newly launched high-priced signal apps |
| Toss Securities "AI Signal" | Big-company features (built into brokerage apps) | 2025-11 | All of Toss Securities' users | Free. Explains why stocks move (news, disclosures) but doesn't give trend states; it still holds the "check my holdings" entry point |
| TradingView's Traffic Light-style indicators, StockCharts' Traffic Light | Web/open-source indicators | Already around | Free | The "red/yellow/green light for trend" format is not new at all; AO just packages it as a subscription app aimed at beginners |
Bottom line: there are many similar products, and "traffic lights for trend" is already a common public indicator. What sets AO apart is the messaging (states, not advice), the four-stage "uptrend lifecycle" framing, and per-slot pricing.
4. Growth tactics (where users come from)
- Instagram Reels content account + free e-book lead magnet (confirmed). The account @assetorbit_ao ("에이오 - 심플한 투자") posts Reels in bulk with titles aimed at retail pain points: "How to get out when you're stuck after buying at the top", "You thought it was the bottom, and there's a basement", "What happens after you take profit at +5%", "Watched charts for a year and the account didn't move"; plus celebrity-style stories like "Investing contest champion earns 155% in a year" and "A dancer earns $2M in 18 months." Every video ends with the same line: "To see what state my stocks are in now, check with 에이오; search '에이오' on Play/App Store," plus "Get the free e-book 《주린이를 위한 에이오 투자법》 (AO investing guide for stock beginners) via the link in bio." The Reel at 11-02 has only 1 likes and 0 comments; spot checks of 4 other posts all show "No comments yet." The content is being posted, but almost nobody is watching. (Instagram post page, scraped via jina, 2026-11-06)
- Store search: the lead magnet tells people to "search in the store," so landing depends on search. But "에이오" is a generic word (results like A.O. Smith get mixed in), so it's unlikely to bring much organic traffic.
- Paid ads: our Meta Ad Library (which only tracks pages found by keyword, starting 2026-11-01) shows no App ID, package name, or domain for it. But this library doesn't cover Korean finance terms, so not finding it does not mean they didn't spend. Unverified.
- Media / X / TikTok / communities: Jina, Exa, and Brave turn up no media coverage; x-radar has 0 mentions of "assetorbit" in the last 90 days; no TikTok account found. Founder 오은석 has no public appearances or revenue posts either.
5. Why it (did not) break out
- There are revenue signals, but the volume is tiny: paying users are probably in the single digits to dozens. High prices on a low-barrier Korean finance Top Grossing chart let it occasionally crack the top 50 (see the curve in section 2).
- The only acquisition channel is one low-engagement Instagram content account, and there's no sign it can drive meaningful volume.
- No evidence of retention or word of mouth: 1 ratings, 10 new downloads in 0 days.
- The real thing worth copying is the pricing and compliance messaging: give away two permanently free slots ("Samsung Electronics + Bitcoin") so users see colors right away, then charge a premium for custom slots. The "show you the rallies you missed" feature directly hits FOMO, and one update a day suits people with no time to watch the market. Emphasizing throughout that it's "status information, not investment advice" is likely meant to avoid Korea's investment-advisory registration and regulation (speculation, unverified).
6. Differentiation
- It doesn't sell "buy/sell points" or "predictions," only "current state," and uses a four-stage "uptrend lifecycle" in place of buy/sell. For regulators worried about stock-tip services and retail investors worried about bad signals, this framing is easier to accept.
- One app covers Korean stocks, US stocks, Korean/US ETFs, and crypto; pricing is per slot, not by feature tiers.
- One push every day at noon, pitched as "stop opening the market app several times a day."
- Is that why it broke out? Not clearly. The differentiation is mostly in the wording; the underlying mechanic is an off-the-shelf trend indicator (TradingView-style traffic-light indicators have been free for years). And it hasn't broken out yet anyway.
7. What to borrow
- "Two permanently free slots plus preset national assets (Samsung, BTC)" lets users see results with zero setup, then charges a premium for custom slots. This per-slot pricing can transfer to any monitoring/alerting tool.
- Calling "signals" "states" both lowers compliance risk and speaks to the anxious crowd that doesn't want to watch the market.
- Content-account topic formula: retail pain points (stuck after buying, selling too early, buying the dip mid-fall) + celebrity stories + a fixed product CTA + an e-book hook. But judging by AO's engagement numbers, posting content without paid promotion builds momentum very slowly.
8. Visibility and copycats
- Visibility: almost nobody knows about it. No media coverage, nobody mentions it on X, no public revenue, and Instagram engagement sits near 0.
- Copycats: none directly copy the four-color status lights. Similar philosophies exist, such as the indie app 포끼 (launched 2026-10-13, "pushes only when the signal changes"), but they were built independently and don't look like copies of AO.
9. Still unclear
- Actual in-app purchase prices and tiers (the card says ₩29,900–149,000; the store page wasn't captured).
- 8–October chart trajectory (our database only has data from 10-28), and roughly how much each Korean finance Top Grossing rank corresponds to in revenue.
- Whether they've run Meta / Naver / Kakao ads; the Instagram account's follower count.
- Whether they've filed for investment-advisory registration; what the signal algorithm is (most likely standard indicators like moving averages or momentum).
- Refund and retention data.
