Afizzy - AI Character Stories · Sophos AI

Written for people who grew up reading on Wattpad: AI romance story Afizzy has hit 1.33M installs in three months, and every message gets pricier the longer you chat

What it is A women-focused AI romance interactive story app: pick a character from a dark romance trope, act out the plot with them line by line, with AI-generated images and video, each message costs virtual coins, and there are three subscription tiers.

Why it took off It targets non-English women reading on Wattpad and scrolling BookTok, running chats in their native language across Brazil, Turkey, France and Italy. Behind it, a China-based going-global team uses Google global paid acquisition and bulk TikTok paid creators, and two-way invite codes that give coins to both sides get existing users to recruit in comment sections and on Reddit.

BHow you could get in Don't fight them head-on on paid acquisition. Go after the corners they haven't covered: transparent pricing with no creeping costs, BL/GL tropes they don't serve, a language they haven't claimed. For acquisition, copy the invite-code coin giveaway and mass mid-tier TikTok creator seeding.

Grade B: non-English women readers will pay for AI plots and are angry about the escalating costs, so the gap is clear, and almost nobody in product circles is watching it. But the category is crowded with well-funded China going-global teams, growth runs entirely on paid ads and creator seeding, and model and image costs are high too. A small team has to bet that its acquisition cost pencils out. Few people know about it yet

Afizzy lets you keep a romance going with AI-generated vampire princes, mob bosses and 'your boyfriend's father.' Every message you send costs a coin, and the later in the plot you are, the more each one costs. It launched on iOS in July and Android in August, and by November had 1.33M Android installs (6), charting in the Google Play Entertainment Top Grossing top 25 in Italy, France and Germany. What's holding it up isn't the tech. It's a well-chosen audience, a China-based going-global team's paid acquisition machine, and an invite system that makes users post codes in comment sections themselves. Below: what it actually sells, where the users come from, who's competing, and where you could cut in.

Two comments from the same week

Oct 22, a Brazilian user gave Afizzy 5 stars with the title 'Ótimo para as amantes de Fanfic' (great for fanfic lovers): 'It's perfect for those of us who grew up reading Wattpad fanfics, haha. If you want 50 free Fizz, enter my code NC2RB6.'

Oct 20, another Brazilian user gave 1 stars, titled 'Inflation every time you unlock a chapter': 'At first a reply cost 15 coins. As the story goes on, they raise the price. My last chapter cost 165 coins, and the free daily allowance is only 50. I'm angry and sad, because I used to like this game.'

Nov 2, a Turkish user was more blunt: 'Just started the monthly subscription, topped up to 3000 Fizz. Now every line I say costs 100. At the start a message was only 15.'

These three comments are almost the whole Afizzy story: it found readers willing to pay to 'keep the story going,' used a code-for-coins mechanic to have them recruit for it, then kept raising prices.

What it is: a fanfic that moves and talks back

Open Afizzy and the home page is a row of character cards: vampire prince, cold-faced prince, werewolf Alpha, mob boss. The web home page's hottest one is 'Victor Hale – Your Boyfriend's Father,' showing 889k messages. Tap in and it isn't free-form chat. It's a plot with a setup and conflict: you reply a line, the character answers, with AI-generated pictures and short videos in between. In Oct 25 the 1.8.0 version added a few things: mixed text and images, auto-generated pictures and video, characters who reach out to 'pick up where we left off,' and character search by story tropes.

Users don't really call it 'AI chat.' The words that keep coming up in the Brazilian reviews are 'o jogo' (this game) and 'viciante' (addictive). It's closer to Episode or Chapters interactive fiction, except the plot isn't fixed: the AI is the writer and can keep writing without end.

Here's how the money works: each message costs Fizz coins, with 50 given free per day. Three subscription tiers: $4.99, $14.99 and $39.99 a month (299.99 a year). The per-message cost isn't fixed. Reviews report some going from 7 to 58, and others from 15 to over 1,000. It's the old interactive fiction move of 'pay diamonds for the key scenes,' carried over to AI.

Android is the main engine, iOS is much smaller. Android adds 114k a week, the same league as Talkie (130k) and Linky (102k), and far behind Character.AI (219k) and PolyBuzz (373k). Its turf is non-English markets in Europe and Latin America. The US is actually weak.

Revenue isn't public. The third-party estimator AppGazers puts its Android revenue over the last ~30 days (10-07 to 11-06) between $210k and $1.1M. That's a model estimate with a very wide range. Reaching the top 25 of the Entertainment Top Grossing chart in Italy, France and Germany does show real people are paying.

Who's behind it

The store names are layered: the iOS developer is listed as 'Sophos AI,' the Android developer as 'Guru AI Lab.' The Google ad account running its ads is CHAMOMILE PTE. LTD. in Singapore. The TikTok ad account is FANGPU (CHENGDU) INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY, matching the Chengdu company '方朴(成都)信息技术有限公司,' founded in 2021.

The CHAMOMILE Google ad account is also running a long list of casual puzzle games (spot the difference, sudoku, screw puzzles, water sort) and a Castbox podcast player. In 7 days it ran more ads than you can scroll through, across 193 countries. In other words, Afizzy is a new category from a China-based team that has spent years on going-global tools and casual games, plugged into an existing paid acquisition setup. From the outside, you can't tell whether these companies are one group or share media buyers.

Where users come from

Google app install ads, global. Afizzy's video creatives started appearing in the CHAMOMILE account around Sep 24, starting with 21 countries. Two months later it passed a million Android installs, mostly from this channel (inferred).

Bulk paid TikTok creators. In October a batch of #ad videos appeared with nearly identical hashtags: #Afizzy #AIboyfriend #AIroleplay #ContinueYourStory, with the tagline 'Continue your own story.' @cozywith_m's Oct 10 post asked 'What if you could write your own story with your favorite character?' and got 61k views. @sandra__mason's Oct 12 post was just 'Okay… this got interesting FAST 👀' with 49k views. @tatia.t1 said 'like reading a romance novel, except you decide what happens next.' There's also an account literally named @tika.ugccreator. Each post got a few thousand to tens of thousands of views, winning on volume, with landing links carrying date-numbered tracking short links. From October 23 to 24 it also test-ran 21 TikTok ads across 17 European countries, pointing to iOS, and then stopped.

Invite codes turn users into promoters. A new user enters someone else's 6-character code and both get Fizz. The effect is that comment sections became code-swapping zones: of the 196 iOS reviews visible, about 109 (56%) include an invite code, such as 'Usem meu código 9NZT5W' and 'Code fizz: MJQW4J,' almost all rated 4 to 5 stars. Reddit has r/Afizzy with an official code-swap thread, and YouTube Shorts has 'Afizzy invite code' videos. One mechanic handles recruiting, good reviews and review count at once.

The official TikTok account piggybacks on anime. @afizzy.official has 53k followers, posting Gojo and Geto from Jujutsu Kaisen, Chainsaw Man, Draco from Harry Potter, tagged #BookTok #darkromance. Its top video got 130k views, usually one or two thousand.

No tech outlet has covered it, and almost nobody on X has mentioned it.

Why these people and these countries

  • The audience is well-chosen. Not general AI chat users, but women who read Wattpad, scroll BookTok and play otome games. The characters are all dark romance tropes. A German one-star review listed them off: 'Anime, mob bosses, vampires, werewolf Alphas… whoever likes them, have fun.' The people who like them get hooked.
  • Native-language conversations. A French user wrote: 'I love that the conversation automatically turns into French.' Top players like Character.AI mostly serve English speakers, and the romance-novel readers in Brazil, Turkey, France and Italy had no one really catering to them. Those countries' Entertainment charts also have low barriers, so the users bought can stay and pay, and the spend pencils out.
  • Aggressive pricing. Costs rise as the plot goes on, plus a $39.99-a-month premium tier, so ARPU is higher than comparable apps. The cost is that almost all of the 1-star reviews rant about it: 'piège tarifaire' (a price trap) in French, 'Roubo' (robbery) in Portuguese, plus coin-deduction bugs, Russian users unable to pay, and plots that error out and freeze.

The category is already crowded, and Afizzy has no proprietary tech. It sits between 'AI companionship' and 'interactive fiction,' stitching the tricks of both together, then pushing it out with paid acquisition. I haven't seen anyone clearly copying it yet.

If it were you

The verdict: the demand is real. Non-English women who read romance will pay for AI plots, and a lot of them are angry about how they're charged. But going head-on means matching paid acquisition budgets and model costs against a row of well-funded China going-global teams. A small team's best bet is to take a corner they haven't served well.

Who it's for: 2 to 3 people, with at least one person who has run Google or TikTok app install ads. Ideally someone who reads or writes fanfic / web novels / BL, who knows what this audience wants and can write native-sounding opening scenes.

Who it doesn't suit: people who just write code and expect organic store traffic (there's no tech moat here, and growth runs on paid ads and creator seeding); people who want an English-first market (Character.AI, PolyBuzz and Talkie already own it); and anyone who can't stomach content moderation and payment risk (17+ romance content draws scrutiny from Apple, Google and the payment rails).

How to do it:

  • Pick a angle it hasn't nailed. The two most obvious: first, price transparency: a fixed per-chat price or a one-time unlock, with "the price won't climb as you chat" as the first store screenshot. The people leaving bad reviews because they got burned are your users. Second, the tropes it doesn't cover: someone in Italy gave it 1 stars with a single word, "Eteronormativo" (heterosexual only). It mostly skips BL / GL stories and characters.
  • Pick one language and run it first. Portuguese (Brazil), Turkish, and French are already partly taken. For Indonesian, Polish, Latin American Spanish, and Japanese/Korean otome readers, first check where similar apps rank on the local entertainment Top Grossing chart before you decide (inference).
  • Copy its structure: character cards + a conflict-driven opening + images + characters who message first to pull the user back. Most of the cost goes to generating images and video, so start with images only.

How to acquire users: copy its two cheapest moves. Invite codes that give coins to both sides, with users posting codes themselves in comment sections, Reddit, and Discord (watch out: Apple's review rules against incentivized ratings, so don't have the app push users to leave reviews with codes). On TikTok, seed a batch of small-to-mid UGC creators, use one shared slogan and one set of hashtags, and open the clips with a POV trope like "POV: he thinks you won't care…". Once it's scaling, add Google App campaigns.

Get in before: launch and start small paid spend before Q1 2027. Chinese going-global teams ship new apps in this category every month. If you wait half a year, the language you want has probably been taken too.

Signs you've got it wrong: ① Afizzy and similar apps drop together on the European and Latin American entertainment Top Grossing charts, which means pay-per-chat pricing is pushing people away and this audience isn't that willing to pay; ② Apple or Google start removing per-message-billed AI romance apps, or tighten rules on 17+ romance content; ③ you test 20 to 30 creatives on a small budget in your chosen language, and the cost to acquire a paying user stays above first-month revenue, so that language can't support paid acquisition.

One line

Afizzy is an "AI character interactive story" app aimed at female readers of romance and fan fiction. Characters are AI-generated images and short videos. Chatting costs "Fizz" coins per message, and subscriptions run $4.99 to $39.99 a month. The iOS developer listed is "Sophos AI / SophosAI Inc" and the Android developer is "Guru AI Lab". Ad accounts are based in Chengdu and Singapore. It's not an indie project. It's a new category from a Chinese team that makes going-global tools and casual games, pushed out with proven playbooks: Google global paid acquisition, TikTok paid creator UGC, in-app invite-code referrals, and localization into 9 languages.

1. Baseline and growth

  • iOS: Listed in 2026-07-15, currently on version 1.8.0 (2026-10-25 updates), 17+. All-region rating count went from 2,551 (10-28) to 3,135 (11-06), adding 53 to 77 per day, +472 over the last 7 days. Charted in 80 to 92 countries (appstore library app_day, data card). Top rating countries: US 832 (+122 in 7 days), Brazil 638 (+67), France 210, Turkey 182, Germany 132, UK 128. Best entertainment category ranks: Ukraine Free #15, Slovakia Top Grossing #17, Hungary #23, Brazil #24, Argentina #25. Overall Top Grossing: Slovakia #115, Argentina #200. US store rating 4.86 (iTunes lookup).
  • Android is the main channel (googleplay library): package com.affiny.ai.chat.character, developer Guru AI Lab, listed in 2026-08-06. Installs 1,330,512, +113,805 in the last 7 days, rating count 10,826 (10-29 is 9,283). 11-06 entertainment Top Grossing: Italy #21, France #24, Germany #25, Argentina #29, Brazil #31, Spain #32, US #60; France overall Top Grossing #79. Charted in 21 countries and 46 charts.
  • Comparison: Android adds 114k installs a week, the same range as Talkie (130k), Linky (102k), and Chai (85k). Character AI (219k), PolyBuzz (373k), and Sekai (750k) are much bigger (googleplay library installs_gain_7d, 2026-11-06). On iOS it's much smaller, a bit over 3 thousand ratings, and in the US it's only #110 in its category. So Afizzy is an Android-first product, with Europe and Latin America first.
  • Revenue: Not publicly disclosed. The third-party AppGazers model estimates Android revenue of $209K to $1.1M over the last ~30 days (10-07 to 11-06), with 248k to 1.2M downloads (80% interval, appgazers.com/reports/developers/android-8628441344302043961). This is an estimate and unverified.

2. Why it took off

2.1 Where users come from (growth tactics, ranked by strength of evidence)

  1. Google global paid acquisition (confirmed): In the googleads library, afizzy.com maps to advertiser CHAMOMILE PTE. LTD (Singapore; the transparency center lists HK). In the last 7 days this account ran ≥200 ads (the cap), across 193 countries, 100% video and 100% app install ads, with 1,763 historical creatives. Afizzy creatives started running at 2026-09-24 to 09-28 (for example CR00313973284842504193, across 21 countries including AE/AT/BR/CA), alongside a large volume of casual puzzle games (Find Differences, Hidden Object, Sudoku, Screw Sort, Water Sort…) and a Castbox podcast player. This points to a mature paid-acquisition operation that has run casual games for years, with Afizzy as a new app plugged in.
  2. TikTok 付费达人 UGC(已确认):TikHub 搜「afizzy」,2026-10 集中出现一批带 #ad #Afizzy #AIboyfriend #AIroleplay #ContinueYourStory 的达人视频,统一口号「Continue your own story」。例子:@sandra__mason(6.5 万粉,播放 4.9 万)、@cozywith_m(播放 6.1 万)、@angelsolya(2.6 万)、@sarah_nikki(2.2 万)、@ka_thyson(1.8 万)、@otomegamezz(22.5 万粉,乙女游戏号)、@tika.ugccreator(用户名里直接写着 UGC creator)。落地链接用的是追踪短链 afizzy-redirect.pages.dev/store/tiktok-2026102…,还有巴西的 acesse.one 短链。打法是大量铺中小 UGC 达人,单条播放几千到几万。
  3. TikTok ads, Europe (confirmed, small volume): In the tiktokads library, the advertiser is FANGPU (CHENGDU) INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY CO., LTD (company records match 方朴(成都)信息技术有限公司, founded 2021-09, registered capital 1M yuan, qcc.com). The agency is labeled "KA Game-03". From 2026-10-23 to 10-24 it ran 17 iOS install ads across 21 European countries, titled "Afizzy: Character AI App", 86% video. European spend then dropped to zero. This looks like a test of iOS paid install.
  4. Invite-code viral loop + review-section code drops (confirmed, the most distinctive one): a new user enters someone else's invite code and both sides get Fizz (reviews disagree on the amount: 50, 100, 1000 Fizz, "2x / 3x"). In our library, 196 of Afizzy's iOS reviews (from 2026-09-03 on, mostly Turkey, Brazil, France, Russia), about 109 (56%) include a 6-character invite code, e.g. "Usem meu código 9NZT5W", "PTXDN3 girinnn", "Code fizz: MJQW4J". There's an r/Afizzy on Reddit where the official account opened a "share invite codes" thread, r/findareferralcode also has posts, and YouTube Shorts carry "Afizzy ai invite code" videos. The mechanism does three things at once: it buys good ratings (the code-carrying reviews are almost all 4 to 5 stars), it raises review counts, and it drives word-of-mouth acquisition. The Turkish store has the most reviews (75), and that's where this matters most.
  5. Owned TikTok account + fan-driven content (confirmed, moderate effect): @afizzy.official has 53k followers and 206 posts, mostly riding anime IPs and fandom moments (Jujutsu Kaisen Gojo/Sukuna/Geto, Chainsaw Man, Harry Potter Draco, Halloween). Top post: 130k views (2026-08-11, a Draco text-message meme). Typical posts get a few thousand views.
  6. SEO / web pages (in progress, effect unverified): afizzy.com is the web version, with character detail pages, topic pages (AI boyfriend, companion roleplay, create AI character), a help center (9 languages), and a Creator guide. The top trending character on the homepage, "Victor Hale - Your Boyfriend's Father", shows 889k messages.
  7. Meta ads: nothing in the metaads library (we discover by keyword, and "AI companion" isn't in our word list, so a miss doesn't mean they didn't spend). They have a Facebook page, "Afizzy - AI Chat Roleplay" (facebook.com/AIchat.roleplay). Not verified.
  8. X / media: x-radar found 0 posts mentioning "afizzy" in the last 90 days. No tech-press coverage found.

2.2 Why users show up now, why they stay, why they pay

  • It attracts the fanfic / Wattpad / otome readers, not general AI-chat users: a Brazilian review says verbatim "Ótimo para as amantes de Fanfic… perfeito pra gente que cresceu lendo fanfic no Wattpad" (10-22), and "fanfiqueiras" keeps showing up. The characters are vampire princes, cold-hearted princes, mafia bosses, werewolf Alphas, and boyfriend's fathers, all BookTok / dark romance tropes. The official TikTok uses #BookTok #darkromance #delulu too.
  • Closer to interactive fiction like Episode or Chapters, but the plot isn't scripted in advance: users call it "O jogo" and "jogo de romance" and treat it as a game. The 1.8.0 version added illustrated text, auto-generated images and video, characters who message you to continue the story, and finding characters by "story tropes" (per the App Store release notes). A German user: "die Geschichten werden super mit Fotos und Gedanken ausgeschmückt" (the stories are nicely embellished with photos and thoughts).
  • Localization goes as far as automatic native-language dialogue: a French review says "j'apprécie que le dialogue c'est automatiquement mise en français". The app lists support for 70 languages and the help center has 9. That fits its ratings concentrating in Brazil, Turkey, France, Italy, Germany and Russia. The leaders (Character.AI etc.) are mostly English-speaking users, and non-English romance readers have gone underserved.
  • People pay because they get hooked: reviews are full of "viciante" (addictive) and "hoher Suchtfaktor". The monetization: each message costs Fizz, and the later you are in the story, the more each message costs (many reviews say it went from 7 or 15 Fizz up to 35, 58, 80, 100, even 1000+ Fizz), plus 3 subscription tiers (Starter $4.99/mo, Standard $14.99/mo, Premium $39.99/mo or $299.99/yr). It's the old interactive-fiction "diamond-gated chapter" playbook moved onto AI. The cost is that almost every low-star review complains about exactly this ("piège tarifaire", "Inflação a cada capitulo", "Roubo"), plus coin-deduction bugs and payment failures in Russia.

Verdict: the space is very crowded, and Afizzy has no proprietary tech in its product form. It sits between "AI companion" and "interactive fiction" and combines the playbooks from both sides.

4. What's the differentiation, and is it why it broke out?

  • Differentiation: (1) AI chat with a story layer, packaged in female-oriented dark romance / fanfic tropes, where each character gets AI-generated images and short videos and messages you proactively to continue the plot. Compared with general chat like Character.AI or Chai, it feels more like "playing a novel that moves." (2) Native-language localization in non-English markets (Brazil, Turkey, France, Italy, Germany). (3) Per-message charges that rise over time, plus premium subscriptions, which makes its ARPU design more aggressive than comparable products.
  • Is that the reason? Differentiation is only part of it. The decisive factor is distribution: one paid-acquisition account running Google install ads across 193 countries, batches of #ad creators on TikTok, and invite codes that get existing users to drop their codes in store reviews and on Reddit. The product positioning (romance readers + localization) is what makes the bought users stick around and pay (it reached the top 25 to 30 of the Entertainment Top Grossing charts on Google Play in Europe and Latin America), which is what makes sustained spend pay off. So: positioning makes the unit economics work, resources and paid acquisition make it scale.

5. How many people have seen it

  • Revenue isn't publicly disclosed, and the founders don't speak publicly (the real company names are hidden behind several shells: Sophos AI, Guru AI Lab, CHAMOMILE, and 方朴 Chengdu).
  • No media coverage. 0 posts on X discuss it (x-radar). Third-party estimate sites like AppGazers show a revenue estimate. There's discussion in user circles (Reddit invite-code threads, TikTok), but almost nobody in developer circles has noticed it.
  • Judgment: few people in the product world know about it yet. The category itself is already packed with Chinese going-global teams, though.

6. Copycats

I found no clear evidence it copied a specific Afizzy product. Similar products from the same period (Popia, imely, ZingChat, Isekai Zero) are parallel competitors, not copycats.

7. What others can learn

  • Invite codes + store reviews: a two-sided coin-granting invite code gets users to go to the review section and Reddit on their own asking for codes, which solves acquisition, ratings and review count at once. 56% of 196 iOS reviews carry a code. This design is worth learning from (watch Apple's risk around review solicitation).
  • Choose the audience, not the technology: target female readers from Wattpad / BookTok / otome, use tropes for all the creative ("boyfriend's father", "the vampire prince who kidnaps you"), and standardize creator messaging to one line: "Continue your own story."
  • Non-English markets first: the entertainment top-grossing charts in Brazil, Turkey, France and Italy have low entry barriers, and once localized the app can break into the top 30.
  • Escalating pricing for interactive fiction: the per-message cost rises as the story progresses, combined with premium subscriptions. Revenue is high, but it brings a flood of bad reviews.
  • Barrier to note: what really sustains the volume is a paid-acquisition team that can run Google video ads across 193 countries while hiring batches of TikTok UGC creators. One or two people can't easily copy that.

8. Still unclear

  • What the relationships are between Sophos AI (iOS), Guru AI Lab (Android), CHAMOMILE PTE. LTD (Google ads), 方朴 Chengdu (TikTok ads), and the Guru Network / Castbox group: the same ad account runs ads for the Castbox player and Guru-branded puzzle games, so it could be one group, or just shared agencies. Not verified.
  • Web character creator credits include handles like "@szYuchen_08"; the team may be in mainland China (Shenzhen or Chengdu). Not verified.
  • How much they actually spend on Google ads, and what share of the CHAMOMILE account Afizzy takes up (our library only captured 2 to 3 Afizzy creatives, and the account's total ad count hit the cap). Unknown.
  • Whether they run Meta ads and how much, which our library doesn't cover.
  • Revenue is only AppGazers' modeled estimate ($209K to $1.1M / 30 days, Android). Not verified.
  • Whether the reviews about escalating charges will hurt iOS review and retention needs more watching.
