# "Hear بسم الله the moment you get in the car": a solo-built Muslim CarPlay widget reached #2 on Egypt's Top Paid chart with only 2 ratings

**What it is** A CarPlay widget app for Muslim drivers: a Qibla arrow, the next prayer time, and an automatic Bismillah and travel dua when you get in the car. Setup on the phone is free; putting it on CarPlay requires a subscription or a one-time purchase.

**Why it took off** iOS 26 let third-party widgets appear on CarPlay, and the "play a dua on CarPlay startup" Shortcuts tutorial had already gone viral on TikTok with hundreds of thousands of views. Safar turned that hand-built workaround into a one-tap product, and it landed in markets like Egypt and Indonesia, where a handful of subscriptions is enough to reach the paid charts.

**C** **How you could follow** Don't build another Islamic CarPlay app from scratch. If you already have a prayer app, adding the CarPlay widget as a paid feature is the cheapest path. If you want a different audience, first find the "driving ritual" that audience already went viral with on TikTok, put the paywall at the last step, offer a trial and a lifetime purchase from the start, and ship before the 2027 Ramadan.

C grade: the platform window and the paywall approach are worth learning, but it has only about 109 ratings in four months, so the ceiling is low. Rahman, with the same selling point and 40 times the volume, and the free Ezan Vaktim are already in the market, and myBible, which used the same template for a Christian audience, has only 24 ratings. Still little known

Safar is an indie-dev iPhone app that launched in July. It puts the Qibla direction, next prayer time, an auto-played Bismillah and travel dua onto CarPlay as small widgets, and you have to pay to get in the car. In Nov 6 it charted on the Reference category's Top Grossing in the Egypt, Indonesia, Turkey and Qatar stores, but worldwide it has only 109 ratings. It caught a platform window and got one paywall right, but the niche is small and easy to copy. Worth watching, not worth chasing.

### An Egyptian-dialect short video

In October 29, the Facebook page "Safar - Muslim CarPlay Widgets" posted a vertical video in Egyptian dialect, opening with:

> تخيّل أول ما تركب عربيتك تسمع بسم الله — "Imagine, the moment you get in your car, you hear 'In the name of God.'"

The video had 13k views and 6 likes; a gap that wide between views and engagement suggests it was boosted with paid spend (inference). The next day, October 30, Safar reached #2 on the Egypt App Store Reference Top Paid chart. At that point it had only 2 ratings in Egypt.

This line wasn't invented by the app. In 2026 Mar 9, Egyptian TikTok user ahmedrashadezz posted a tutorial: "how to make Apple CarPlay play the travel dua as soon as you open it", with 258k views (TikTok, 11-06). Safar just turned that tutorial into a paid button.

### What it is

A CarPlay panel for Muslim drivers. There are 8 widget types you can put on screen: a navigation-style Qibla arrow (a regular compass doesn't work while the car is moving, so it calculates from the direction of travel), the next prayer time, a Bismillah audio clip, a travel dua audio clip, a daily Quran chapter with recitation, a daily hadith, the Hijri date, and a photo. Later it added morning and evening remembrance, and you can set what plays when CarPlay connects and disconnects.

The pricing model is the most interesting part: **picking widgets, arranging their order, and previewing what CarPlay will look like are all free on the iPhone; the final "Apply to CarPlay" step requires Premium.** By then users have already spent several minutes setting up the panel before the paywall appears.

Current store prices (US store, 11-06): weekly subscription $2.99–5.99, annual subscription $9.99–34.99, lifetime $59.99 / $99.99. Several tiers exist for the same kind of plan, which looks like price testing and discount codes. In the Turkish store, the annual subscription runs ₺499.99 to ₺1,999.99.

The developer is listed as ARDA GUENGOER, a single person with 2 apps under their name. From the spelling, they look Turkish-German (inference). It supports 14 languages, including Arabic, Turkish, Indonesian, Malay, Urdu, Persian, Bengali, and Hausa. The name has also changed: the website download link still uses the old name "Muslim Car Play & Drive," and it's now "Muslim Car Widgets," riding the hot search term "car widgets."

### Why now

Three things came together.

**The platform opened the door.** iOS 26 (announced in September 2025) let third-party app widgets appear on the CarPlay screen. Over the following year, "Car Widgets" became a hot category on the App Store: the leader, myCar: Car Widgets & Dashboard, launched in November 2025 and now has about 25k ratings across all stores, adding 381 more in the last 7 days (App Store, 11-06). Safar launched in July 20 and rode that wave.

**The demand had already been proven on TikTok.** "Play a dua on CarPlay startup" is a DIY trick built with iPhone Shortcuts that has nothing to do with any app, and it has gone viral many times: hauwaryou's tutorial from July 2025 got 206k views; hanaankhalid's November 2025 post, which said "feels like sitting on an Emirates flight about to take off," got 140k views, and a month later they were pressed for a tutorial; the Malay creator paizzz had 34 with 460k views, and the Arabic creator fahadalmethen_ had 450k (TikTok, as of 11-06). Lots of people want the ritual but find building the Shortcut too fiddly.

**The big prayer apps haven't turned driving into a standalone product yet.** Muslim Pro, Pillars, and Athan all have home-screen and lock-screen widgets, but none packages the driving scenario on its own or charges for it.

### How big it really is

| Storefront | Score | Best Reference chart rank (#11-06) |
|---|---|---|
| Saudi Arabia | 41 | Top Free #116 (reached #30 on Top Paid 11-01) |
| Turkey | 38 (average 4.4) | Top Paid #33, in the #32–43 range for ten days |
| Germany | 10 | Top Paid #95, first time charting |
| Indonesia | 6 | #30 Top Grossing |
| Qatar | 6 | #39 Top Grossing |
| UAE | 4 | Top Free #105 |
| Egypt | 2 | Top Paid #9 (10-30 #2) |

About 109 ratings across all stores in total, 3 new in the last 7 days, roughly 0 to 2 a day (App Store, 10-28 to 11-06). At that pace, downloads are probably a few dozen a day (estimate).

The chart position looks good because the Reference category's Top Grossing bar is very low in these stores, so a few subscriptions get you charted. Charting does mean people are paying, but the amounts are small, likely around $1K a month or less (inferred, no public figures).

### Where users come from

- **Their own Facebook / Instagram short videos.** That's the Egyptian-dialect video at the top; September also posted a Turkish one on Instagram @usesafarapp, and both end with "download link in bio." Whether they paid for ads, and how much, can't be found from outside.

- **Its own TikTok account performed badly.** @usesafarapp has 157 followers. From late July to early September it posted a batch in Turkish, Indonesian, Arabic and English. Only the two posts from launch week reached 3,755 and 968 views; after that it was single or double digits. On Aug 24 it posted one saying "Safar is cheaper than ever."

- **Store search.** Renamed to ride on "car widgets," and added 14 languages that match the stores where it charted.

- **Website articles.** usesafar.app has a few English and French guides: "how to watch prayer times on CarPlay," "how to find the Qibla," and "travel dua." Google can find them; traffic unknown.

- No press coverage, creator partnerships, or X / Reddit discussion found.

### What users complain about

Nearly all the bad reviews are from the Turkey store, and they're all about money (App Store Turkey reviews, September 2026):

> "Don't download!! Too expensive. Once you install and don't pay, you can't use it, and there's not even a free trial." (9-14, 1 star) "There should be a lifetime one-time purchase option. Monthly and yearly are both too expensive for me, I can't afford them." (9-02, 4 stars) "You're selling even God for money." (9-05, 1 star)

The developer listened. The release notes for the 1.8 update in Oct 10 say "reminder before the free trial ends, discount codes, contact support right from the paywall, smoother purchase flow." The whole update was about the paywall. The store now also lists a lifetime purchase. Some people in religious contexts will pay, and some believe faith shouldn't be paid for. That's a kind of negative review this category can't avoid.

### Who it's competing with

| Competitors | Scale | How Safar differs |
|---|---|---|
| Rahman: Islam Super App | Launched Jul 28, 4,699 ratings in Turkey, +52 in the last 7 days | Full-featured Islamic app. In September it promoted "get in the car and have the driver recite besmele" in Turkish on Instagram. Same selling point, roughly 40× Safar's size |
| Ezan Vaktim | Launched 2021 years ago, 608 ratings in Turkey | Native CarPlay app plus widgets, completely free. Its bad reviews complain that Safar is expensive, using it as the reference point |
| Namaz Vakti, Muslim Widget, DuaCar | All single-digit ratings | One each: prayer times on CarPlay, prayer widgets, and automatically playing dua when you connect to the car |
| "Your Car Assistant" Facebook page | One video with 26k views | A generic car-display widget app that has repeatedly posted "Islamic widgets on your CarPlay" since Oct 26. It's already copying this route |
| myCar, Car Connect, and other generic CarPlay widget apps | 25k and 69k ratings | Not targeted at a religious audience; anyone can add an Islamic widget pack at any time |
| myBible: Bible Car Widgets | Launched Nov 2025, 24 ratings | Same template aimed at Christians, launched half a year early, never took off |

The last line matters most. The template of "make CarPlay widgets for a religious audience" has been tried before, and it reached only 24 ratings. Safar can do a bit better because Muslim audiences already have a "dua before driving" ritual that went viral on TikTok, plus low-barrier charts in Middle Eastern stores.

### If it were you

**Verdict (C):** There's something to learn, but following it isn't worth much. The CarPlay widget door is real, and the "free setup, pay when you drive" paywall is worth copying. But the niche itself is tiny. Safar took four months to reach 109 ratings, while Rahman, with 4,699 ratings, is already pushing the same selling point, and the free Ezan Vaktim has had CarPlay for a while.

**Who it suits:** a solo developer who knows SwiftUI and WidgetKit and already has a prayer-time or Quran app with a base of users. Adding CarPlay widgets as a paid feature to an existing app is the cheapest route. Also people who speak Arabic, Indonesian, or Malay natively and can shoot dialect short videos themselves.

**Who it doesn't suit:** anyone who wants to build a standalone "Islamic CarPlay" app from scratch and expects it to pay the bills, or anyone who plans to reuse the template for another religion or audience without knowing what viral "driving ritual" that group has on TikTok (myBible is the cautionary tale).

**How to do it:**

1. Find the ritual first, then build the widget. Search TikTok for "carplay + a word for the audience." Look for handmade tutorials with hundreds of thousands of views (startup sounds, pre-drive prayers, fixed routines before leaving). Then decide who to build for.

2. Keep the paywall at the last step as Safar does, but don't open with a free trial and a lifetime purchase. Don't repeat the path that got Safar yelled at in Turkey.

3. Launch in 10+ local languages at once. Localization costs are low, and a few sales can chart in the Middle East and Southeast Asia category charts.

**How to get users:** open your ad with the line that went viral in the tutorial, like Safar's "Bismillah the moment you sit in the car." Shoot vertical video in local dialects and run small Facebook / Instagram ad budgets. Safar's own TikTok account barely got traction, so don't expect organic reach.

**When to move before it's crowded:** Ramadan starts around early February in 2027. That's when prayer apps see the most downloads all year. Aim to launch by late January with localized video ready. The bigger risk is that a large prayer app like Muslim Pro adds a CarPlay widget someday, and the window closes.

**What would mean I'm reading it wrong** : ① Safar's ratings multiply around Ramadan and it stays in the top 20 of the Turkey or Saudi Top Grossing charts over time. That would mean the niche is bigger than it looks and worth serious work. ② A tens-of-millions-user prayer app like Muslim Pro ships a free CarPlay component. That would mean this path is basically over. ③ Someone builds a few hundred-plus ratings with the same template for another audience (Christians, Hindus, truck drivers). That would mean the "switch the audience" move works when the audience is chosen well, and myBible just picked the wrong one.

## Why Safar: Muslim Car Widgets (iOS 6782401246) managed to break out

> Research day 2026-11-06. Sources: our appstore library (app_day / app_profile / chart_rank / review / app_snapshot, 2026-10-28 onward), Apple's lookup API, the official site usesafar.app, TikHub (TikTok), public Facebook / Instagram pages (read via Jina), Exa / Jina search, x-radar, and the metaads library.

### One line

Safar is a **CarPlay widget app** for Muslim drivers: a Qibla arrow, the next prayer time, Bismillah auto-played on departure, travel dua, a daily surah, hadith, the Hijri calendar, and photos. Picking and sorting widgets is free on iPhone, but **you need Premium to put widgets on CarPlay** (weekly and yearly subscriptions). The developer is ARDA GUENGOER (Arda Güngör, judging by the spelling likely German-Turkish; this is an inference), an solo dev. Listed 2026-07-20.

**Bottom line: it's a "small breakout," not a blowup.** The rise came from three things: iOS 26 opened CarPlay widgets to third parties (a platform event); TikTok tutorials on "play dua as soon as CarPlay starts" had already gone viral, so the demand was proven; and the big Islamic apps hadn't yet treated CarPlay as a product of its own. Its chart ranks look good mainly because **the Reference category's Top Grossing bar is very low in Egypt, Indonesia, Qatar, and Turkey** : Egypt had only 2 ratings and still reached #2 on Top Grossing. Absolute numbers are tiny: 109 ratings across all stores, with 7 added in the last 3 days.

### 1. Data: how big it really is

- Ratings (app_snapshot 2026-11-06): sa 41, tr 38, de 10, id 6, qa 6, ae 4, eg 2, at/my 1 each, roughly 109 total; across all stores 0–2 new ratings per day (daily_all_countries). Judging by the rating growth rate, downloads are in the tens per day (inference).

- Top Grossing chart (chart_rank, Reference category 6006, grossing):
    - Egypt: 10-28 #6 → 10-30 **#2** → 11-06 #9, bouncing between #2 and #28 daily;
    - Turkey: held at #10–32 for 43 days;
    - Indonesia: ranked 16–48; Qatar: ranked 33–120; Saudi Arabia: peaked at #11-01 30, later fell to #192; Germany: entered the Top Grossing chart for the first time, at #11-06 95.
    - Egypt reached #2 on Top Grossing with only 2 ratings, so in these Middle East storefronts a handful of subscriptions is enough to chart in this category. The rank is a real signal (people are paying), but the money involved is very small.

- Version: 2026-10-10 shipped 1.8, with release notes saying "reminder before the trial ends, promo code discounts, contact support directly from the paywall, smoother purchase flow." The whole release is tuning the paywall.

- The store name was changed: the slug in the official download link is still `safar-muslim-car-play-drive`, and the TikTok profile still says "Safar: Muslim Car Play & Drive"; it's now called "Muslim Car Widgets." This is an ASO rename that rides the current hot search term "Car Widgets."

### 2. Competitors

#### 2a. Direct competitors: Islamic + CarPlay

| Product | Where | Launched | Scale | How Safar differs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rahman: Islam Super App(Mobile Victory) | iOS | 2026-07-28 | tr 4,699 rating, +7 in the last 52 days, best tr category rank #10 (appstore library) | A full-featured Islamic app where CarPlay is just one selling point; the IG account rahmanapp posts Turkish content like "let the car recite besmele when you get in" (2026-09-22), nearly identical to Safar's pitch, with 40× Safar's scale |
| Ezan Vaktim(Mehmet Bayram) | iOS | 2021-04-29 | tr 608 ratings | A native CarPlay app + widgets, **completely free** ; Turkish one-star reviews complain Safar is expensive, and the comparison they make is to free apps like this |
| Namaz Vakti (AsanTek / ibrahim KOSE, etc.) | iOS | 2025-12 | single-digit ratings | IG posts "prayer times are now on CarPlay," free |
| Misbah(Black Hart Consulting) | iOS | Not verified | Not verified | Uses Live Activities to put the countdown to the next prayer on the lock screen, Dynamic Island, CarPlay, and Apple Watch; CarPlay is a side feature of a prayer app |
| DuaCar App(BaseformFits) | iOS | 2026-08-27 | 0 rating | Uses Shortcuts to auto-play travel dua when Bluetooth or CarPlay connects; only does one of Safar's features |
| Muslim Widget: Prayer & Qibla(K-UBE) | iOS | 2026-10-05 | 1 rating | Prayer-only widgets |
| Quran Car: Audio Memorize | iOS | 2025-03-26 | About 0 | Quran while driving, audio only |
| "Your Car Assistant" Facebook page | Others (FB ads) | Started 2026-10-26 | One reel with 26K views / 119 likes | A generic car-widget app's FB page (which app specifically is unverified) has repeatedly posted "Islamic widgets for your CarPlay" since 2026-10-26, copying the Safar playbook |
| Big prayer apps like Muslim Pro, Pillars, and Athan | iOS / Android | Years | tens of millions | All have home screen and lock screen widgets, but none has made "driving" a standalone product with its own pricing (whether Muslim Pro has CarPlay widgets is unverified) |

#### 2b. The layer above: the general "CarPlay widget" category (a hot category since iOS 26)

| Product | Launched | Scale (appstore library, summed across storefronts) |
|---|---|---|
| Car Connect, Play & Widgets(Bloomup) | 2023-01 | 68,705 |
| myCar: Car Widgets & Dashboard(DOFUapps) | 2025-11-20 | 25,099, +381 in the last 7 days |
| CARFACE Car Widgets(Kain Suite) | 2026-07-08 | 731 |
| myBible: Bible Car Widgets(Mehmet Sipahi) | 2025-11-02 | 24 |
| Dozens of other "Car Widgets / Dashboard" apps launched in 2026, mostly with 0–10 ratings | | |

Safar is **a slice of this big category, cut by religious audience** . The Christian myBible did this half a year earlier and only got 24 ratings. So "do the same template for a different audience" doesn't always work.

### 3. Why users are showing up now

1. **Platform event: iOS 26 opened CarPlay widgets.** Announced at WWDC 2025, shipped 2025-09; the right-hand CarPlay column can hold up to 5 widgets, and third-party WidgetKit widgets can go there too (per Apple's support docs, BGR, mergescreens, and other coverage). In 2026 a wave of "Car Widgets" apps launched around this, and myCar alone got 25k ratings in a year. Safar launched 2026-07, right in that wave.

2. **The demand was already proven on TikTok: "play dua or Bismillah the moment the car starts."** This is an iPhone Shortcuts trick that has nothing to do with Safar; users build it themselves:
    - hauwaryou 2025-07-18, teaching "auto-play dua on CarPlay," 206k views, 21k likes;
    - fa13haz 2025-11-19, #carplay #islam startup audio, 320k views, 26k likes;
    - paizzz34 2025-11-29, in Malay, "Mulakan dengan doa" (start with a prayer), 460k views;
    - fahadalmethen_ 2026-03-07, an Arabic tutorial on "auto-play a travel dua when you get in the car," 450k views;
    - hanaankhalid has 2025-11-23.1M views, and also posted a tutorial on 2025-12-18. (All from TikHub search.) These DIY tutorials show plenty of people want this ritual, but setting up the Shortcuts automation is too much hassle. Safar's "Bismillah audio" widget and its FB ad copy "hear بسم الله the moment you get in the car" turned this into a product.

3. **Why people pay:** The free version lets you pick widgets, arrange them, and preview on iPhone, but putting them on CarPlay requires payment. Users have already done the setup by hand, so the paywall at the last step converts well. Religious-app buyers are also willing to pay in the first place. The cost: the Turkish store's 1-star reviews focus on complaints like "making money off Allah," "no trial," and "no one-time purchase" (review table, 2026-09). The 1.8 update added a trial reminder and promo codes, which is a direct response to those reviews.

### 4. Where users came from (growth tactics)

| Channel | Evidence | Confirmed? |
|---|---|---|
| Facebook / Instagram owned short video (possibly paid promotion) | The FB page "Safar - Muslim CarPlay Widgets" (page 61592177558168) posted an Egyptian-dialect reel on 2026-10-29, "تخيّل أول ما تركب عربيتك تسمع بسم الله" (imagine the first time you get in your car and hear Bismillah), with 13k views and 6 likes. The gap between views and engagement looks like paid promotion or boosting. The day after it was posted (10-30), Egypt's Top Grossing chart jumped to #2. IG @usesafarapp posted a Turkish reel on 2026-09-06: "İndirme linki bioda" (download link in bio). | Posting is confirmed; whether it was paid ads is unverified (the metaads library didn't track this page) |
| TikTok owned account (multilingual posting matrix) | @usesafarapp: 157 followers, 3,444 likes; 2026-07-28–09-09 it posted a series of "Download link in bio" videos in Turkish, Indonesian, Arabic, and English. Only two, from the launch week, got 3,755 and 968 views; the rest are in single or low double digits. 8-24 posted "Safar is now cheaper than before." | Confirmed, and the results were poor |
| Store search / ASO | Renamed from "Muslim Car Play & Drive" to "Muslim Car Widgets" to ride the hot terms "car widgets" and "carplay"; supports 14 languages (AR, TR, ID, MS, UR, FA, BN, HA, etc., per Apple lookup), and the charted storefronts and language coverage line up | Rename confirmed; traffic impact unverified |
| SEO on the official site | usesafar.app has English and French pages, plus guides like "How to check prayer times with CarPlay," "Qibla finder," and "travel dua" that show up in Google search | Existence confirmed; traffic unknown |
| Media / creators / X / Reddit | x-radar: 120 posts in the last 0 days; Exa / Jina found no media coverage; no creator partnerships found | None found |

### 5. Differentiation

- **Compared with the big prayer apps:** it does only the "driving" scenario. It turns the Qibla into a navigation-style arrow (a compass doesn't work well while moving, so the direction is computed from travel heading), then pairs it with audio you actually use in the car (Bismillah on departure, travel dua), packaged as a glanceable panel for driving. The big apps have these features but haven't bundled them into a product.

- **Compared with generic CarPlay widget apps:** the content is all Islamic, and it supports 14 languages used in Muslim-majority countries. Generic apps are only starting to add Islamic widget packs (Your Car Assistant on FB is doing this).

- **Is this differentiation why it took off?** Partly. It charted in the Middle East and Southeast Asia Reference Top Grossing because the "Islamic + CarPlay" combo was barely being made in those markets, and the bar was low. But the combo is easy to copy: Rahman (Turkey, 40× its size) is already pushing the same selling point, and Ezan Vaktim has CarPlay for free. The moat is shallow.

### 6. How many people know about it / are copying it

- **Almost nobody knows yet.** Revenue isn't public (nothing on TrustMRR, no founder revenue posts, nothing on X), and no press coverage. The only public visibility is its own FB / IG / TikTok.

- **Copycats have already started:** the "Your Car Assistant" FB page, starting from 2026-10-26, posted "Islamic widgets for your CarPlay," one post with 26K views; DuaCar App (2026-08-27) only autoplays dua; Muslim Widget (2026-10-05). Separately, Rahman and Namaz Vakti are pushing "prayer times / besmele on CarPlay" on Turkish IG.

### 7. What others can borrow

1. **Chase new platform capabilities and split them into vertical versions by audience.** iOS 26 CarPlay widgets → religion (Islam, Christianity), truck drivers, rideshare drivers, pet owners, sports fans… But myBible has only 24 ratings, so picking the audience matters: there has to be an existing "driving ritual" need, and that need has already gone viral on TikTok.

2. **Turn the manual hack that went viral on TikTok into a one-tap product** (a Shortcut that plays dua at startup → built-in Bismillah widget), then use that hack's pitch directly as ad copy.

3. **Put the paywall at the "last step before driving":** let users set up the widgets for free, and charge when they apply them to CarPlay.

4. **Chart in storefronts and categories with a low bar for Top Grossing:** in the Middle East and Southeast Asia, a Reference category needs only a few subscriptions to reach the top 10 Top Grossing, and localizing into 14 languages is cheap.

### 8. Still unclear

- Whether the FB reel is paid, and how much was spent (the metaads library doesn't track this page; the ad library won't load without login).

- Subscription prices (not obtained for any storefront) and the actual revenue scale.

- Which app is behind "Your Car Assistant."

- Whether Misbah and Muslim Pro have native CarPlay widgets.

- Where it ranks when you search the store for terms like "carplay" or "car widgets" (we don't have keyword ranking data).
