# Spain's taxi driver bookkeeping apps are crowded: Taxio charted by picking the right category, not by selling a lot

**What it is** An iPhone bookkeeping app for Spanish taxi drivers and fleet owners: it logs rides from Uber, Free Now, Bolt and other platforms together with cash, automatically deducts each platform's commission, calculates take-home pay, and exports to the accountant.

**Why it took off** It didn't really take off. It was placed in a low-barrier finance category, where one or two subscription sales a day can jump it dozens of places on the bestseller chart. The pain point is real, but the user base is only a few dozen to a hundred or two (estimated).

**C** **How you could follow** Don't build another taxi version in Spain. Move the "merge multiple platforms, deduct commission, calculate net income" model to delivery riders, courier drivers, or countries still open (such as Italian taxis), and launch a fleet version from day one, acquiring users through associations and trial codes sent to driver groups.

Grade C: the model of merging multiple platforms to calculate net income, the category selection, and the association channel are worth learning, but Spain's niche already has seven or eight indie-developer apps, and the largest has only 49 ratings. The pool is small, with an annual price of about 30 euros, so copying it isn't worth it. Few people know about it yet

Taxio, a taxi bookkeeping app built by a Spanish indie developer, ranked #31 in Italy's App Store Finance bestseller chart and #64 in Spain in Nov 6. Yet it has only 12 ratings worldwide, and it hasn't gained a single one in the past 7 days. It charted because it was placed in a very low-barrier chart; the niche it sits in spawned seven or eight nearly identical apps within half a year. This piece lays out what it did right, why it isn't worth copying, and what you can take from it.

### "Before everyone wanted to build a taxi app"

This line isn't Taxio's, it's its rival's. TaxiCaja is Spain's earliest taxi bookkeeping app, launched in 2025 October, and its website has a big headline in the middle: "Antes de que todo el mundo quisiera hacer una app para taxistas" (Before everyone wanted to make an app for taxi drivers) (taxicaja.com, 11-06).

It's referring to the wave in the second half of 2026. June: Taxi Driver Control; July 28: Taxio; August: TaxiFlow, TAXIgest, Mi Turno Taxi; October: TaxiGest and Italy's TaxiCorse. All were built by individual developers doing the same thing: letting drivers log each ride, deducting platform commission, calculating take-home pay, and exporting to the accountant at month end.

Taxio's developer is David Martin Sierra. Within 10 days of launch, the first review on the Spanish App Store came in: 5 stars, titled "Ya era hora!" (About time!).

### What it is

An iPhone app for bookkeeping for Spanish taxi drivers, ride-hailing drivers and fleet owners. The core is a formula: the homepage example is a ride of 24.50 €, select "Free Now," it automatically deducts 15% commission, 3.68 €, leaving 20.82 € take-home (taxio.es, 11-06). It comes preloaded with seven platforms, Free Now, Uber, Bolt, Cabify, Joinup, Imbric and PideTaxi, plus cash, card terminals and its own radio dispatch, and each platform's commission rate can be edited.

The pain point is real. Taxi drivers in Madrid and Barcelona take rides from several platforms at once, plus street-hailed cash fares, each with a different cut, and they used to track it all in a notebook or a spreadsheet. The website puts it bluntly: "Se acabó el sobre de tickets" (No more envelopes full of receipts).

Taxio is more complete than its peers in features: the fleet version can see up to 4 drivers, who is working and who is earning most; it has CarPlay, Siri voice commands to start and end shifts, a lock-screen widget, and a GPS trail heatmap (showing which areas earn the most). The Oct 29 1.5.7 version also added a Q&A that uses Apple Intelligence to answer "how do I use this feature." It supports 6 languages. The website says "Android en camino" (Android is on the way); it isn't out yet.

### Why it's on the chart

Not because it sells a lot, but because it picked the category well.

Most peers file under Business or Productivity. Taxio put itself under Finance. The Finance top-grossing charts in Spain and Italy have a very low bar: Nov 6, Spain's Finance top-grossing chart sat between #55 and #75, with one app at just 2 ratings, another at 5, another at 0, another at 1. Italy ranked #25 to #40, with Taxio itself at just 2 ratings and its neighbors being 0 (App Store, 11-06).

So Taxio's rank jumps around daily: in the Spain store it went from #119 on Oct 28, to #182 on Oct 30, to #36 on Nov 5, then fell back to 64 the next day. In Italy it first charted at #40 on Nov 2 and bounced between 31 and 126 over the following days. One or two extra subscriptions a day can move it dozens of spots (inference).

On ratings: Oct 28 9, Nov 6 12, of which Spain 10 and Italy 2, all 5 stars. Extrapolating from that volume, paying users are probably in the dozens to a couple hundred (estimate).

### Where the money comes from

Free download, premium features by subscription: driver plan 2.99 €/month or 29.99 €/year, fleet plan 9.95 €/month or 79.99 €/year (includes 4 drivers), 7-day free trial, no card required (taxio.es, 11-06). An earlier cached fleet price was 4.99 €/month, so it has raised prices once.

The fleet plan is where it out-earns peers: a license holder with several cars paying 80 euros a year is nearly three times one driver. But the market itself is small: taxi drivers in one country, ~30 euros per customer per year, with a dozen-plus players splitting it.

### Where users come from

- **Store category.** The Finance chart above is the main reason people see it, with a bit of chart exposure on top.

- **Website and long-tail search.** taxio.es has 6 language versions, three comparison pages ("Taxio vs Excel", "Taxio vs TaxiCaja", "Taxio vs Taxi360"), and a dozen-plus industry articles: platform commissions, license prices, 2027 taxi fares, Catalonia's new taxi law, Waymo entering Spain, and Verifactu, Spain's anti-tampering invoicing system that taxis must use from 2027. Searching its name ranks first, but for generic terms like "app contabilidad taxistas" (taxi bookkeeping app), Diario Taxi and TaxiCaja rank higher.

- **TikTok.** The account @taxio_app has posted a daily feature explainer since Oct 28, each getting 740 to 850 views, with 41 followers (TikTok, 11-06). The view counts are so uniform they look like baseline platform distribution, not evidence of users.

- **Driver groups and associations: none found.** This is exactly where its rivals outperform it. TaxiCaja partnered with the Madrid taxi association Gremial, which gives members a free 15-day trial code ("GREMIAL") (gremial-taximadrid.com, 2026-05), and it is also promoted in taxi-driver Facebook groups. Taxio shows no trace of either.

- **Media, X, Reddit: none.**

### Who it's competing with

| App | Launched | Spain store rating count | How it differs from Taxio |
|---|---|---|---|
| TaxiCaja | 2025-10-16 | 49,4.6 stars | The earliest; on iOS and Android; cheaper at 19.99 €/year; pitches anonymity, AI analysis, and totaling by meter count; has an association channel; no fleet plan |
| TaxiFlow | 2026-08-17 | 14 | Similar features, more ratings than Taxio, but never charted |
| TAXIgest | 2026-08-21 | 7 | Receipt scanning with OCR, focused on splitting earnings between license holders and hired drivers |
| TaxiGest: gastos y análisis | 2026-10-15 | 9 | Calculates how much quarterly tax to pay, also filed under Finance |
| Taxi Driver Control | 2026-06-15 | 9 | Splits earnings between license holders and employees, works offline |
| Diario Taxi | 2025-08-04 | 6 | Free with ads, from 0.99 €/month |
| Mi Turno Taxi | 2026-08-27 | 3 | Large number keypad for logging rides and shifts |
| Taxi360 | Unknown | Android only | 9.99 €/month, covers only Uber and Cabify |

App Store Spain store, 11-05 to 11-06. The driver sides of Uber, Bolt, and Free Now each show only their own platform's earnings, with no way to combine them. That gap is the reason all these small apps exist.

One detail: Taxio's comparison page says TaxiCaja cannot auto-deduct platform commissions, but TaxiCaja's website says "each app's commission is already recorded when it reaches you." The comparison page overstates.

Taxio is not the first, not the cheapest, and not the one with the most ratings. Its standout is product polish and the fleet plan, but neither shows up in user numbers.

### If it were you

**Verdict:** don't build another taxi bookkeeping app for Spain by copying it. Seven or eight already compete here, and the biggest has only 49 ratings, which shows how small the whole pool is. What's worth taking is its model and a few tactics.

**Who it suits:** someone who can build native iOS and understands one country's one type of gig work: you've driven for a ride-hailing service or delivered food yourself, or someone in your family does, and you know which platforms they run at once and what each one takes.

**Who it doesn't suit:** anyone hoping for meaningful income from a single app. At 30 euros a year, one country, one trade, reaching a thousand paying users is already hard, and that comes to roughly 30,000 euros a year (estimate).

**How to do it:**

1. **Change the trade or the country, not the product.** The workflow of "combine orders from several platforms, subtract each one's commission, compute net take-home, export to an accountant" can be moved to food couriers (Glovo, Uber Eats, Just Eat), parcel drivers, and ride-hailing drivers (VTC in Spain). In Italian taxis, the only one I found is TaxiCorse, with 0 ratings; France's VTC segment already has several players, so I'd skip it.

2. **Build the fleet version from day one.** It's the only thing that can push average revenue per customer up two to three times, and TaxiCaja doesn't have it.

3. **Check the chart bar before choosing a category.** Look at the Finance, Business, and Productivity top-grossing charts in your target country and count how many ratings the #50 app has, then pick the lowest one. That gets you on a chart while you still have few users, but don't mistake the ranking for a business taking off.

**How to get users:** follow TaxiCaja, not Taxio. Partner with local taxi associations, courier unions, and fleet owners, and give members a dedicated trial code. Get real users to vouch for you in driver Facebook and WhatsApp groups. Publish comparison pages and industry policy explainers (like mandatory invoicing rules such as Verifactu) to slowly build long-tail search. Daily TikTok feature clips, judging from Taxio's data, don't work.

**When to be early:** there's no rush. Tools like this grow through word of mouth and have no window. But launch before a country's mandatory invoicing or tax-reporting rule takes effect, since that's when drivers are most willing to switch tools. For Spain, that moment is Verifactu in 2027.

**What would prove this read wrong:** if in six months Taxio or TaxiCaja climbs to hundreds of ratings, stays in the top 50 of the Business or Finance top-grossing charts, and lands on Android too, then this group pays far more than it appears, and a better Spanish version still has room. Conversely, if a year from now most of these seven or eight have stopped updating, the ceiling for small tools like this is a few dozen users, and that holds in any country.

Where users come from

- **Verified** **Store category choice (low-bar Finance top-grossing chart)** : rivals mostly sit in Business/Productivity; in Spain, apps near the #55–75 spots on the Finance top-grossing chart have only 0–12 ratings

- **Verified** **SEO and competitor comparison pages** : taxio.es has 6 language versions, with taxio-vs-excel/taxicaja/taxi360 comparison pages, and about 17 industry blog posts (Verifactu, licenses, fares)

- **Verified** **Own TikTok account** : @taxio_app posts one video a day since 2026-10-28, each getting about 740–850 views, with 41 followers

- Inference **Paid acquisition** : the metaads library doesn't cover es/it, so nothing can be found

- Inference **Facebook taxi driver groups and industry associations** : no trace of Taxio found (rival TaxiCaja has a Gremial association partnership)

## Taxio: gestiona tu taxi (iOS id6785660991), why it showed up

> Research date 2026-11-06. Stores checked: the library scanned all App Store storefronts, and it only charted in the es and it storefronts (Finance top-grossing chart); rivals were checked mainly in es.

### Bottom line

It didn't really "break out." It surfaced because it holds a rank on the **Spain/Italy Finance top-grossing charts** (it #31, es #64), but those charts have a very low bar: apps near the same spots have only 0–12 ratings, and Taxio's own rank swings between 36 and 182 day to day, so one or two subscriptions a day can move it dozens of spots. What it did right was **pick the right category** (most rivals sit in Business/Productivity; it sits in Finance), plus a fairly complete product and serious SEO and comparison pages. Judging by rating counts, the real user base is in the dozens-to-couple-hundred range (inference).

### 1. Basic data

- Developer David Martin Sierra (individual), first launched 2026-07-28, Finance category, free download plus subscription. The same developer also shipped a second app, "Vekta: gestiona tu flota" (rental fleet management, 0 ratings), also a vertical management tool for a small industry: 2026-09-02. Source: iTunes lookup, developer id6785660993.

- Ratings: 12 in total across stores (es 10, it 2, all 5 stars); 2026-10-28 was 9, and by 11-06 it had only 3 more; in the last 7 days, 0 (data card; library appstore.app_day).

- Daily ranks (library appstore.app_day, es Finance top-grossing chart): 10-28 #119 → 10-29 #147 → 10-30 #182 → 11-02 #55 → 11-03 #99 → 11-04 #117 → 11-05 #36 → 11-06 #64. In it, it first charted at 11-02 #40 → 81 → 126 → 66 → 31.

- Chart bar (library v_chart, as of 2026-11-06): on the es Finance top-grossing chart, within #55–75 sit ReSubs (2 ratings), Fintegrate (5), Sessions (0), Expense Log XL (1); on the it chart, within #25–40 sit Moby (0 ratings), Subpilot (0), Taxio (2). **To reach the dozens of spots on these two Finance top-grossing charts, revenue may only need to be a few euros a day (inference).**

- Pricing (taxio.es, captured 2026-10-31): driver plan 2.99 €/month or 29.99 €/year; fleet plan 9.95 €/month or 79.99 €/year, includes 4 drivers; 7-day free trial, no card required. A cached Google copy of an older pricing page lists the fleet plan at 4.99 €/month and 39.99 €/year, so it has raised prices.

- Version: 1.5.7 (2026-10-29), added "Pregunta a Taxio", which uses Apple Intelligence to answer questions about using the app. Updates are frequent. Supports 6 languages (EN/FR/DE/IT/PT/ES) (iTunes lookup).

### 2. Competitors (start with the competitors)

Spain's "taxi driver bookkeeping app" category visibly crowded up in the second half of 2026, and every new entrant is an individual developer:

| Product | Platform | Launched | Scale (es review count, lookup 2026-11-05~06) | How it differs from Taxio |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| TaxiCaja(Alejandro Abon Sanchez) | iOS+Android | 2025-10-16 | 49 reviews, 4.6 stars; best Business category rank #79 | The oldest; pitches 100% anonymous, AI analyst, meter-total mode, booking reminders; 14.99–19.99 €/year; partnered with the Madrid taxi association Gremial, members get 15 days free with code GREMIAL (gremial-taximadrid.com, 2026-05). The site literally says "before everyone wants to build a taxi app," aimed at the copycats that came later |
| TaxiFlow(Isabel Ortega Vidal) | iOS | 2026-08-17 | 14 reviews | Similar features, more reviews than Taxio, but never charted |
| TAXIgest(Jose Manuel Serrano Civico) | iOS | 2026-08-21 | 7 reviews; best Business Top Grossing rank #122 | Receipt OCR, aimed at splitting earnings between license holders and hired drivers |
| TaxiGest: gastos y análisis(Pol Pena Santos) | iOS | 2026-10-15 | 9 reviews; also listed under Finance | Pitches calculating how much tax you owe this quarter, saves receipts as proof |
| Taxi Driver Control(Francisco Martin Carnero) | iOS | 2026-06-15 | 9 reviews | Splits earnings between license holders and employees, works offline |
| Mi Turno Taxi(Borja Lopez Sanz) | iOS | 2026-08-27 | 3 reviews | Big number-pad keyboard for logging fares and shifts |
| Diario Taxi(Manuel Flores Vilchez) | iOS/Android | 2025-08-04 | 6 reviews | Free with ads, from 0.99 €/month |
| Taxi360 | Android only | Unknown | Unknown | 9.99 €/month, fleet plan 59.99 €/month; only covers Uber and Cabify (taxio.es/taxio-vs-taxi360) |
| Exaccta Tax, Taximetric, paper "taxi ledgers" | Other | — | — | The first handles receipts the tax office accepts; the other two are what gets pushed in Facebook groups |
| Italy: TaxiCorse (Massimo Galbusera) | iOS | 2026-10-06 | 0 reviews | An Italian-language fare logging tool |
| Big companies and platforms | — | — | — | Uber, Bolt, and Free Now driver apps only show earnings from their own platform, with no way to combine several into one view |

Takeaway: **there are plenty of competitors, and nearly all are solo Spanish indie-dev apps that appeared between 2026 and October 6** (likely a wave enabled by AI-assisted coding lowering the barrier). Taxio wasn't first, and it doesn't have the most reviews.

### 3. Growth tactics (where users come from)

- **Store category choice (confirmed)** : Taxio is in Finance, while TaxiCaja, TAXIgest, TaxiFlow and most others are in Business/Productivity. The Finance Top Grossing charts in es and it have a low bar; a bit of revenue is enough to chart. That's the direct reason it resurfaced, and it may also have brought some chart exposure.

- **SEO and comparison pages (confirmed)** : taxio.es has 6 language versions, plus three comparison pages, "Taxio vs Excel," "Taxio vs TaxiCaja," and "Taxio vs Taxi360," and about 17 industry blog posts: platform commissions, taxi license prices, Verifactu mandatory from 2027, Catalonia's new taxi law, 2027 fare rates, Waymo entering Spain, and so on (taxio.es/sitemap.xml). Searching "taxio.es" on Jina ranks it first, but for the generic term "app contabilidad taxistas," the top results are Diario Taxi and TaxiCaja, not Taxio.

- **TikTok (confirmed, but small)** : the account @taxio_app has posted one feature explainer a day since 2026-10-28, 9–21 videos in total, each getting about 740–850 views, with 41 followers (TikHub, 2026-11-06). The view counts are suspiciously uniform, like base platform distribution or small paid boosts, with no sign of organic growth.

- **Facebook taxi driver groups, association channels (not found)** : TaxiCaja has exposure in the TODOTAXI group and the Gremial association; none found for Taxio.

- **X, Reddit, media (not found)** : x-radar search for "taxio" over the past 90 days returned 0 results; Jina search turned up no press coverage.

- **Paid acquisition (unverified)** : the metaads library keywords only cover US/GB/DE/JP, so whether it runs ads can't be checked; at this price point, large-scale paid acquisition is unlikely to pay back (inference).

- **Reviews** : all 5 reviews are 5 stars and short; the earliest, "Ya era hora!" ("About time!"), was posted 10 days after launch (2026-08-07), which looks like friends or first seed users (inference, not verified).

### 4. Why it took off (and why it hasn't really yet)

1. The real pain point for Spanish taxi drivers: running Free Now, Uber, Bolt, Cabify, Joinup, PideTaxi, radio dispatch, and cash all at once, each with different commission rates, then handing the books to an accountant (gestoría) at month end, traditionally tracked in notebooks or Excel. Taxio made "automatically deduct each platform's commission and calculate take-home net income" its core feature (taxio.es).

2. Timing: Verifactu (Spain's electronic invoicing and tamper-proof billing system) becomes mandatory for taxis in 2027; Taxio wrote a blog post riding that topic. A cluster of similar apps appeared around the same time, suggesting everyone saw the same pain point (inference).

3. Revenue side: subscriptions plus a 7-day free trial, fleet plan at 79.99 €/year. On the es/it Finance charts, a trickle of daily subscriptions is enough to land in the top 100. **The ranking reflects how low that chart's bar is, not how much it's selling.**

4. Retention side: the 5-star reviews repeatedly mention "smooth," "accurate to every cent," and "finally." But with only 12 reviews, that proves nothing.

### 5. Differentiation

- Versus TaxiCaja: Taxio has **automatic commission deduction across 7 platforms** (TaxiCaja also lets you set commission rates, and Taxio's comparison page says it doesn't, though TaxiCaja's site says "set the rate once for Free Now, Uber, Cabify, Bolt and it logs automatically," so Taxio's comparison overstates the gap); it has a **fleet owner mode** (up to 4 drivers, live view of who's working, per-driver rankings, shift start/end reminders); it has **CarPlay, Siri voice for starting and ending shifts, lock screen widgets, and GPS trail heatmaps** , native iOS touches; and it supports 6 languages. Downsides: iPhone only, requires a name, and costs more than TaxiCaja.

- Versus TAXIgest and Taxi Driver Control: the latter two focus on splitting earnings between license holders and employees and on receipt capture; Taxio focuses on multi-platform commissions plus a live fleet dashboard.

- **Is differentiation why it took off?** Not really. Its chart position comes mainly from the category choice (Finance) and that chart's low bar. The product's differentiators (fleet mode, native iOS feel) may lift its average price, but with only 12 reviews there's no sign users are flocking to it at scale.

### 6. How visible it is

Few people know about it yet: no public revenue, no press coverage, 0 mentions on X, and 41 TikTok followers. But the niche is already crowded: Spain alone has at least 7 similar solo-dev apps, and TaxiCaja's website is openly calling out the copycats.

### 7. What to borrow

- The "merge multi-platform commissions into net income" model could transfer to other gig jobs: delivery riders (Glovo, Uber Eats, Just Eat), VTC ride-hailing, courier drivers; and to other countries: France's VTC market already has Strive, Besyde, DriveFlow and more, while Italy is mostly empty.

- Pick the low-bar Finance category at launch; in small countries, Finance Top Grossing charts hand out exposure almost for free.

- Use competitor comparison pages and policy hot topics (Verifactu, licenses, fare rates) for long-tail SEO.

- Fleet pricing can push average price up 2–3×.

- Partner with industry associations for member trial codes (what TaxiCaja and Gremial do); cheaper than buying ads.

### 8. Still unclear

- Actual subscriber count and revenue (Apple doesn't disclose; from review counts, probably dozens to a couple hundred paying users).

- Whether it runs ads on Meta or Google (the libraries don't cover es/it).

- Whether the Italian chart positions come from real Italian users or from the Spanish developer and their contacts switching store regions and buying; impossible to tell.

- Whether the uniform TikTok view counts are paid boosts.
