# Photo cleaner at NT$320 a week: a small Vietnamese team bought its way onto the Taiwan and Japan Top Grossing charts

**What it is** An iPhone photo-cleaning app from a small Vietnamese team: finds similar photos, swipe left to delete and right to keep, compresses videos, private album, plus Gmail cleanup, sold as a weekly subscription.

**Why it took off** It picked Taiwan and Japan, markets that pay and have a low bar on utility Top Grossing charts, localized its store names, ran "iPhone storage full" videos as ads on a Facebook page with only 13 followers, then turned trials into weekly subscriptions.

**C** **How you could follow** Don't build another generic cleaner. Copy the playbook in a small paying market where cleaners are under-saturated, or build the inbox cleanup nobody pushes, and test native-language vertical videos on Meta with a small budget.

Grade C: cleaners are an old, public category. Taiwan and Japan charts already have a dozen studios buying installs, and the leader runs over three thousand ads on Meta. There is no product moat. You can learn market selection and paid acquisition from it, but copying it will be hard to turn into profit. Few people know about it yet

On Oct 4, a Japanese user named "カーマカーマ" left a review on the App Store for Speedy Clean, titled 「無料じゃあ無いから気をつけてねー」 (It's not free, be careful), with the body 「新手の詐欺っぽいな!」 (Sounds like a new kind of scam!). A month later, this iPhone cleaner, first listed in July, ranked #9 on Taiwan's utility Top Grossing chart, and in Japan it climbed from #110 to #73. Its features are no different from a dozen older products in the category. It squeezed in for two reasons: it picked the right markets and was willing to spend on Facebook. Below: what it is, where the money comes from, and whether you can copy it.

### What it is

Speedy Clean is a phone cleaner from the Vietnamese company NAM PHUONG PHAT COMPANY LIMITED, first published 2026-07-14 and most recently updated 11-04 to 1.0.4. The Taiwan store name is 「AI相簿清理」, the Japan one is 「AI写真整理」, with the subtitle "Delete Duplicates, Compress Photos & Videos".

Opening it gives you the standard features of this kind of app: scan the album first, show how much space goes to similar photos, screenshots, and big videos; tag a "best" photo in each group of similar shots; swipe left to delete, right to keep; compress photos and videos; and a password-protected private album. The only two extras are connecting Gmail to bulk-delete mail by "promotions / newsletters / old unread", and a "secret contacts" feature that hides contacts.

The same developer account also has BP Track (blood pressure log, listed 2026-06), which gets almost no traffic. This is a common small-studio tactic: run several "utility + subscription" apps at once and spend on whichever one takes off.

### How big it is now

| Storefront | Utility Top Grossing rank (10-28 → 11-06) | Rating count (10-28 → 11-06) | New ratings in the last 7 days |
|---|---|---|---|
| Taiwan | 11 → 9, in the top 15 for ten days straight | 215 → 253 | 30 |
| Japan | 110 → 73, climbing steadily | 87 → 114 | 26 |
| Thailand | Bouncing between 67 and 199 | 77 → 87 | 10 |
| Malaysia / Mexico | 80–190 | twenty to thirty | 3 |
| US | Not charted | 28 | — |

Data from App Store chart and rating data by region, 11-06. Across all stores, it has 509 ratings, with 72 new in the last ~7 days. The Taiwan store page shows it also ranks #26 on the Utility Top Free chart (11-06).

An app with only 253 ratings got into Taiwan's utility Top Grossing top 10, which shows the bar on this chart is low: you don't need many paying users, just a few hundred people paying the weekly subscription (inference). It has almost no traffic in the US store, so it isn't rolling out globally. It bet on a few markets.

### Where the money comes from: weekly subscriptions, and people who didn't notice

Its in-app purchases come in three tiers (App Store page, 11-06):

| | Taiwan | US |
|---|---|---|
| Weekly subscription | NT$320 | $9.99 / $12.99 |
| Monthly subscription | NT$990 | $29.99 |
| Annual subscription | NT$1,290 | $39.99 |

The annual fee is only a bit more than four weekly fees, so people who actually want a year pick the annual plan. The weekly tier is therefore aimed at people who tapped "Continue" on the trial page without reading the price: NT$320 a week, which adds up to about NT$16,000 a year. The Japanese review calling it a scam says exactly this: the ad says 「無料のアプリです」 (a free app), but inside it's a trial that converts to a weekly subscription. Another Japanese review (10-12) is positive: 「綺麗なデータになって良かった」 (My data came out clean, glad I got it).

Taiwan: 4.6 stars from 255 ratings, but only one written review (9-29, "great / useful"). The high score may come from an in-app prompt asking for a rating (inference, unverified).

The pain point is real: iPhone storage is full, and people don't want to pay iCloud every month. iOS's built-in "Duplicates" only merges identical photos. It doesn't break down how space is used by category, and that gives cleaners an opening.

### Where users come from: a Facebook page with 13 followers

Its website privacy policy is blunt: it uses AppsFlyer "for marketing attribution and to evaluate campaign performance," and the Meta SDK "for ad attribution." This is standard for paid-acquisition apps.

It has a dedicated Facebook page, "Speedy Clean: AI Album Cleaner", 11-06 with only 13 followers. But a Traditional Chinese video posted on that page in Sep 17, "iPhone storage full? Clean up the photos and videos you don't need", has 145k views and 182 reactions. A page with 13 followers and hundreds of thousands of plays can only be explained by paid promotion.

The creatives split into three languages:

- Traditional Chinese: "iPhone 空間不夠" (iPhone storage full), starting late July; the September video reached 145k views;

- 日文:「携帯電話を清潔に保つ」(让手机保持干净),10 月 23 日起密集上新,文案是「無料のアプリです」「ワンクリック」;

- English: "'Storage Full' Notice Again? Clear Space in 1 Tap!", one video with 10-23 views (9,600).

Japanese creatives multiplied starting late October, and its Japan chart rank climbed from #110 toward #73 at the same time (inference).

How many ads it ran on Meta, and how much it spent, can't be seen from outside. For reference, the category leader Cleanup: Phone Storage Cleaner had about 3,839 ads running on Meta in November. That's how expensive this category is to run ads in.

### Who it's competing with

Many. 11-06, among the top 40 on Taiwan's utility Top Grossing chart, there are 8 cleaner apps; among the top 80 in Japan, 15:

| App | Developer | Launched | Taiwan utility Top Grossing | Taiwan rating count |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cleanup: Phone Storage Cleaner | DEEP FLOW SOFTWARE | 2020-12 | 6 | 5,898 (Japan 28,512) |
| AI Cleaner | GRIMLAX TRADE (Spain) | 2023-10 | 8 | 8,659 |
| **Speedy Clean** | NAM PHUONG PHAT (Vietnam) | 2026-07 | 9 | 253 |
| Cleaner: Phone Cleanup App | BitInfinite | 2025-02 | 19 | 2,634 |
| Super Cleaner Master | Smart Tool Studio | 2019-08 | 20 | 9,510 |
| CleanSnap | Individual developer | 2026-03 | 21 | 73 |

Data from the App Store Taiwan chart, 11-06.

Since April of 2026, utility apps newly listed with clean / 清理 / 整理 in the name that also squeezed onto the Top Grossing chart: Japan has 8, Taiwan and Vietnam about 5 each. Cleanify (2026-07) and Cleanio (2026-05) on the Thailand chart came in with Speedy Clean in the same wave.

Outside the category there are three other kinds of competitors: free built-in features from Apple and Google; Clever Cleaner, which is fully free and ad-free and has recruited many IG / FB creators in Taiwan with the "comment '清理' and I'll DM you the link" trick; and swipe-style apps built around left/right swiping.

Speedy Clean isn't the one being copied. It is itself one of the followers. Compared with older products, its only new feature, Gmail cleanup, is barely mentioned in its ads. The creatives are all about "storage is full."

### Can you follow it?

What's worth copying is the playbook, not the product.

It proves one thing: a new app with zero feature differentiation can break into the Taiwan utilities Top Grossing top 10 within 4 months. The conditions: pick the right markets (Taiwan and Japan: willing to pay, low bar for utilities Top Grossing, creatives in the local language), localize the store name, and run vertical video ads on Facebook built around anxiety scenarios like "not enough storage" on a steady basis.

The hard part is here too. Studios in Turkey, Spain, Vietnam and China are already spending in this category, and the leader alone has 3,000+ ads running. There's no moat: if you can build it, someone else can in a week. Revenue depends on weekly subscriptions plus free-trial conversion, reviews say it "feels like a scam," and if Apple tightens the subscription page rules one day, this conversion funnel drops.

### If it were you

**C: You can learn something, but following it isn't worth it.** Cleaners are a public "money printing" category, packed with studios that know how to buy traffic. Speedy Clean is itself a latecomer. What's worth taking away is the method: picking markets, making creatives, and rotating several apps through one account to test.

**Who it fits** : teams that already run an iOS studio, have spent on Meta ads, and can calculate the payback period of every subscription, looking for a ready-made category with confirmed demand to practice paid acquisition on.

**Who it doesn't fit** : indie devs who've never spent on ads and are counting on organic store traffic (this category has no organic traffic, it's all bought); people who think they can win by "being more useful" (users can't tell cleaners apart, ads decide everything); people who care about reputation and don't want to collect money from unnoticed users through weekly subscriptions.

**How to do it** : if you really want in, don't build a 第 16 generic cleaner. Go one step off its market: look at high-paying small markets outside Taiwan and Japan where cleaner apps are still thin (Korea, Hong Kong, English-speaking Middle East are worth counting the charted apps in first), or build the feature it doesn't push: Gmail / inbox cleanup, which nobody is running as the main selling point right now. Price it as an annual subscription and rely less on weekly subscriptions, which cuts bad reviews and refunds a lot.

**How to acquire users** : vertical videos on Meta, where the first line is the words users would actually say: "iPhone 空間不夠" / "ストレージがいっぱい". A new Page, local-language subtitles, and a small budget to test 20 creatives first. Once you find one that pays back, add spend. Connect AppsFlyer or a similar attribution tool, or you won't know which ad is making money.

**When to move before it's too late** : there's no deadline, this category has been hot for years. But if you do go, start testing creatives in late December through January, when people upgrade phones and clear old ones. That's when storage anxiety peaks (inference).

**What would mean you got it wrong** : ① Speedy Clean drops out of the top 30 in Taiwan and Japan within a month. That means paid acquisition stopped or stopped paying back, and even latecomers can't hold on. ② Apple tightens the display rules for "free trial converting to weekly subscription," and apps like this fall off the charts together. ③ The reverse: Speedy Clean or a new entrant grows on Gmail cleanup alone. That would mean the "inbox" slot is empty and worth grabbing.

Where users come from

- **Confirmed** **Meta (FB/IG) video paid acquisition** : the privacy policy states it integrates AppsFlyer and Meta for ad attribution; a dedicated FB Page 61592864772579 has published Traditional Chinese, Japanese and English creatives since 2026-07, and one Traditional Chinese video reached 145k views 9-17

- **Confirmed** **Picking Taiwan and Japan with local-language store listings** : localized store names (AI相簿清理 / AI写真整理); ratings concentrated in Taiwan 253 and Japan 114, US only 28

- Inference **Store search ASO** : title and subtitle stuffed with keywords like "相簿清理 / Delete Duplicates & Compress", appearing in appstor.io search results for the matching keywords

## Speedy Clean: why AI Album Cleaner (iOS 6786116922) was able to break out

> Data date range: 2026-10-28 to 2026-11-06. Regions checked: the library scanned all regions (app_day records exist for tw, jp, th, my, mx, hk, mo), focusing on tw and jp; us was only used as a lookup baseline.

### Bottom line

It's a "phone cleaner" wrapper app made by Vietnamese company NAM PHUONG PHAT COMPANY LIMITED. Its features are nearly identical to the category veterans (Cleanup, AI Cleaner, Cleaner Guru), and revenue comes from weekly subscriptions (US $9.99–12.99/week, Taiwan NT$320–390/week). It reached the top 10 of Taiwan's Utilities Top Grossing chart **by relying on Meta (Facebook/Instagram) paid acquisition, with Taiwan and Japan as the main markets for localized creatives** . The product itself isn't the reason. Taiwan's Utilities Top Grossing bar is low, so a modest number of paying users can reach #9.

- First released 2026-07-14, last updated 11-04 1.0.4. Ratings: Taiwan 4.6 (255 reviews), Japan 4.1 (114 reviews).

- Most ratings come from Taiwan, with Japan as the second market; the US has almost no volume (28 reviews). It's not spread globally, it concentrated spend on a few markets.

- The developer also has BP Track (blood pressure logging, released 2026-06-04), which has only appeared on charts in small countries, with ratings near 0. This is the Vietnamese small-team playbook: run several "utility + weekly subscription" apps at once and spend on whichever one runs.

### 2. Competitors (same job: finding similar photos, cleaning up the album, compressing video, private albums)

Among the top 40 Utilities Top Grossing apps in Taiwan on that day (2026-11-06), 8 were cleaner apps:

| App | Developer | Launched | Taiwan Utilities Top Grossing rank | Taiwan rating count |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cleanup: Phone Storage Cleaner | DEEP FLOW SOFTWARE SERVICES | 2020-12 | 6 | 5,898(jp 28,512) |
| AI Cleaner | GRIMLAX TRADE, S.L. | 2023-10 | 8 | 8,659 |

| Easy Cleaner | Infinity Edge | 2025-01 | 27 | 182 |
| ZooZip | SINGATOP | 2025-01 | 30 | 158 |

Within the top 80 Utilities Top Grossing apps in Japan, 15 were cleaner apps, with Speedy Clean at #73. Within the top 25 in Thailand, 8 were cleaners, including Cleanify (2026-07-27) and Cleanio (2026-05), which launched in the same batch as it. Across all regions: since 2026-04, utility apps with clean/清理/整理 in the name that also reached the Top Grossing chart number 8 in Japan, and about 5 each in Taiwan, Vietnam and elsewhere (appstore library). This is an old category that's already crowded.

Outside the category, there are a few types of substitutes:

- **Built-in features from big tech** : since iOS 16, the Photos app has a built-in "Duplicates" album, and Google Photos has "Free up space." Both are free, they just don't break storage down by category for you.

- **Free, ad-free rival** : Clever Cleaner (CleverFiles, developer of Disk Drill). Taiwanese IG/FB influencers are promoting it, and its pitch is "100% free, no ads." Examples include the "沙漠" IG reel and the "撲滿日記" FB video, both using the "comment 'clean' and I'll DM you the link" formula.

- **Swipe-style apps** : products like Swipe Photo Cleaner focus purely on "swipe left to delete, swipe right to keep."

**How Speedy Clean differs from them, in only two ways** : first, it adds Gmail inbox cleanup (sign in with Google, sort by promotions / newsletters / old unread mail, then bulk-move to trash). Second, it bundles more features (private albums, private contacts, PDF conversion, document scanning, compression). The core of similar photos + swipe left/right + video compression is standard across all of them. These differences don't show up in the chart performance, and the creatives barely mention Gmail (they focus on "iPhone storage full" and "Storage Full").

### 3. Growth tactics (evidence)

1. **Meta paid acquisition (confirmed)**
    - The official privacy policy states it integrates AppsFlyer ("for marketing attribution and evaluating campaign performance") and the Meta SDK ("for ad attribution"). That's standard for paid-acquisition apps. Source: [aspeedycleaner.com/privacy-policy.html](https://aspeedycleaner.com/privacy-policy.html)
    - It has a dedicated Facebook Page, "Speedy Clean: AI Album Cleaner" (page ID 61592864772579), with a new ID range. It has posted videos continuously since late 2026-07, in three languages:
          - Traditional Chinese post "iPhone storage full? Clean up unneeded photos and videos": 2026-09-17 **145K views, 182 reactions** . A new homepage with that view-to-engagement ratio is basically paid promotion. Another post from Jul got 31 3.5K, and a recent one 10K views.
          - Japanese "Keep your phone clean" apps: 10-23 launched in a rush, each pulling around 1.3K, with copy like "無料のアプリです" ("It's a free app") and "ワンクリック" ("One click").
          - English "\"Storage Full\" Notice Again? Clear Space in 1 Tap!": 10-23,9.6K views.
          - Source: [www.facebook.com/61592864772579/videos/整理-iphone-儲存空間/163270…](https://www.facebook.com/61592864772579/videos/整理-iphone-儲存空間/1632703915180866/) and others (read via Jina, 2026-11-06).
    - The Japanese creatives only started appearing densely in late October, which lines up with when its Japan Top Grossing rank climbed from 110 to 73. This is an inference.
    - Our metaads library doesn't contain this Page (the library only tracks keyword first-screen results for US/GB/DE/JP), so **the number of active ads is unknown** . A comparable category product, Cleanup: Phone Storage Cleaner, has 3,839 ads running in the metaads library (2026-11 library data), which gives a sense of how heavy paid spend is in this category.

2. **Borrowing the influencer hook "free, no ads" (inferred)** : On Taiwan IG, a reel titled "Stop slowly deleting photos, finally found a free, ad-free storage cleaning app" is posted by the account S的AI研究所 / gptsavyy. A Jina search shows this video (00:46) appearing under "related videos" on Speedy Clean's FB video page. We can't see the caption, so we're not sure it's promoting Speedy Clean. It could be a paid partnership, or just a similar hook. At the same time, Clever Cleaner is running heavy influencer promotion in Taiwan with "comment to get the link" campaigns.

3. **Store search / ASO (partly confirmed)** : the Taiwan store name uses "AI相簿清理", the Japan store name uses "AI写真整理", with the subtitle "Delete Duplicates & Compress". This targets search terms directly and can surface in appstor.io's search results for "photo cleaner - delete duplicates & compress album". The App Store's "You might also like" section links to similar tools like CleanSnap and PDF ProX.

4. **Not found** : TikTok (searching "Speedy Clean" only returns cleaning videos), X (x-radar: 60 posts in the last 0 days), Reddit/Dcard/PTT discussions, press coverage.

### 4. Why people stay or pay

- The pain is real: iPhone storage is full, and people don't want to pay iCloud monthly.

- People probably pay not because it works well, but because of a **weekly subscription plus a free trial that converts** , the standard monetization for this kind of app. Two Japanese reviews: 10-04 "無料じゃあ無いから気をつけてねー / 新手の詐欺っぽいな!" (It's not free, be careful, sounds like a new kind of scam), 10-12 "綺麗になって良かった" (Glad it cleaned things up). The creative says 「無料」 (free), but the app is a weekly subscription, so a large share of revenue likely comes from users who were charged without noticing.

- The Taiwan rating is 4.6, very high, but there is only one written review ("讚 / 好用", 9-29). The score likely comes from an in-app prompt asking for a rating (inference, not verified).

### 5. How many people know it

- Revenue isn't public, and no press outlet, big X account, or Reddit thread has covered it. Only app-data sites (foxdata, appbrain) index the page.

- But the category itself is well known as a "money-printing category," packed with studios from Turkey, Vietnam, Spain, and China. Speedy Clean isn't copying anyone; it's one of the followers.

### 6. What to borrow

- **Pick the market** : avoid the crowded US market and go for places like Taiwan, Japan, and Thailand, which have "high ARPU and low charting barriers in utility categories." Reaching #9 in Taiwan's Top Grossing utilities takes far less revenue than in the US.

- **Creatives** : lead with the "iPhone storage not enough / Storage Full" anxiety, use UGC-style vertical video, and a new Facebook Page is enough to start running ads.

- **Studio playbook** : run several weekly-subscription utilities (cleaners, blood pressure) under one developer account, attribute with AppsFlyer plus Meta, and kill whatever doesn't perform.

- **Differentiation** : features like Gmail cleanup look like they mainly make the feature list longer and the store page prettier, not a growth source yet.

### 7. Still unclear

- How many Meta ads it actually runs, how much it spends, and its country split (not tracked by the metaads library; the Ad Library page wasn't captured).

- Whether it also runs Apple Search Ads or Google UAC.

- Whether the IG reel gptsavyy posted was this app, and whether it was a paid partnership.

- Refund rate and share of negative reviews: the review sample is too small. Whether the Taiwan ratings were boosted by prompting.

- Ranking trend from 2026-07 to October (before our database starts).
