A "bracelet design" app that turns out to be 18+ video chat: Lento covered the charts of 81 countries in two days

What it is. An app listed under the "DIY bracelet design" pitch that is actually 18+ one-on-one live video chat with real people, where users buy coins ($0.99–$99.99) to tip hosts.

Why it took off. It first got real payments from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Turkey. From Nov 5 installs concentrated in a batch of small countries, where chart thresholds are low, so the number of countries it charted in went from 8 to 81 in two days. The wrapper let it pass review and run ads.

EHow you could follow it. Don't copy it. What you can borrow is the playbook: test creatives cheaply in low-threshold small countries like Jordan, Sri Lanka, and Nepal to earn chart exposure, then verify payments in one market before scaling everywhere.

Grade E: it survives by disguising itself to pass review (hidden features, reskinned builds), and it could be pulled or have accounts banned in bulk at any time. Reviews already call it a scam and say the profiles are fake. It also depends on a supply of hosts and a network of shell companies; the same placement already rotates ten identical builds. Few people know about it yet.

There's an App Store app called Lento: DIY Bracelet Studio. Its store page talks about stringing beads and making bracelets, but once installed it's one-on-one live video chat paid for with coins tipped to hosts, with the top tier at $99.99. In Nov 4 it was on the charts in 8 countries; by Nov 6 that had grown to 81. It isn't a one-off: at least nine other apps with the same "wholesome name" sit in the same placement. This piece covers how it got going, where the money comes from, and why you shouldn't follow it.

"Two stars, so it doesn't get filtered out"

In 2026 Oct 8, a Canadian-store user named Elissa Vahrie left a review for Lento titled "Two stars, so it doesn't get filtered out":

"This app is totally misleading... the ads were run as a cam girl app, not some harmless bracelet-sharing thing at all. You can spend tokens to call the girls, and they send suggestive photos. I'd guess it's meant to be installed on phones of married men or men with girlfriends so it won't be noticed."

The US-store reviews say the same. 9-20, kat3yvette: "NOT a bracelet design app... I downloaded it, it's a camgirl app, the weirdest thing I've seen." 10-15, Ram1452: "Scam, all fake people." 10-29 A Turkish user: "It doesn't say video calls, but there are, and they're terrible."

The developer's replies are all boilerplate, pointing users to [email protected] or "in-app support." One 10-25 1-star review whose entire text was the single word "Perfect" got this reply from the developer: "If you think it's perfect, why did you give 1 stars?"

What it is

The store page (US store, 11-06) is all bracelets: "a peaceful digital sanctuary for bead lovers and creative souls" and "a whole jewelry studio in your pocket," and it even says "no ads." The category is Lifestyle.

The cracks show up outside the copy:

  • Rated 18+, with content controls. A standalone bracelet-making tool has no need for that.
  • In-app purchases are 9 coin tiers, from $0.99 to $99.99, with a $49.99 tier in between. That's the standard price ladder for live-streaming and video-chat tipping.
  • The Jul 29 1.2.0 release notes say "users under 16 are barred from social features" and "optimized user content management and community safety." A bracelet app has social features and user-generated content.
  • Privacy labels include "used to track you: identifiers," meaning ad attribution is wired in.

The developer is HELIX INNOVATIONS TECHNOLOGY LTD. It has only this one App, and its developer ID and App ID differ by 2, so the account was set up just for this package. The website lento.casa has only bracelet copy and a privacy policy. Listed in Jul 13.

That Canadian user's guess points to a second use of the shell: it's not only for the reviewers, it's also for the user's partner. A "bracelet studio" on your phone is easier to explain than a video dating App.

Why it suddenly showed up this week

Look at the period before 11-05 first. From Oct 28 to Nov 4, it charted in only 8–11 countries a day, all on the Lifestyle Top Grossing chart, at low ranks: Saudi Arabia 92–196, Egypt 122–192, Turkey 150–189 (App Store regional charts). Volume was small, but it shows people were already paying in the Middle East, North Africa and Turkey.

Then came the last two days (App Store 115 storefronts, 11-04 to 11-06):

DateCountries charted
11-048
11-0556
11-0681

On Nov 6, it hit Lifestyle Top Free #4 in Jordan, #5 in Sri Lanka, #8 in Egypt, #9 in Mauritius, and #14 in Vietnam. In Turkey it rose from 63 to 28, in India from 81 to 28, and #174 in the US. It entered the overall Top Grossing at #78 in Nepal, and Saudi Lifestyle Top Grossing went from 68 up to 30.

The rating count didn't rise with it: the combined total across all storefronts is 207, and in the last 7 days it added only about 21. Most of the dozens of newly charted countries have 0 ratings. It broke into the Top Free top 10 while almost nobody rated it, which best fits a concentrated install push in a batch of small countries. In storefronts like Jordan, Sri Lanka and Mauritius, reaching the top 10 of Lifestyle Top Free may take only dozens to hundreds of downloads a day (inference).

Where it's being bought and which creatives are used, I couldn't find outside. Searching "Lento bracelet" on X and TikTok returns 0 results each, and the only pages online are auto-generated chart aggregator pages. The one lead is that Canadian user's claim that "the ads run as if it were a cam girl App"; I haven't seen the creatives themselves.

Where the money comes from

Users buy coins and spend them on gifts for hosts and on video minutes. The usual pattern in this category: hosts get a per-minute cut, the platform keeps the spread, and payback comes from a small number of large spenders who top up tens or hundreds of dollars at once. A few large top-ups in Nepal were enough to reach overall Top Grossing #78, which fits this pattern (general industry pattern; this App itself has no direct evidence).

The key markets are Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Turkey. Demand for one-on-one video companionship among single men in these places has long existed, but legitimate Apps either get stuck in iOS review or are regulated locally. Nobody is openly supplying it, and the shell package fills that gap (inference).

Not just one Lento

On the US store page, under "You Might Also Like", a row of nearly identical packages is listed (App Store, 11-06):

What they have in common: nearly all were newly listed in 2026 years, all sit in Lifestyle, almost all are 17+, and each wraps a cozy hobby shell (stargazing, hiking, Shiba Inu, bracelets), with each package under a different shell company, many of them Indonesian PT companies. Lento and Nook were listed one day apart. These packages may well be run by the same team, or one template may be sold to several operators (inference).

They haven't scaled at the same time either: this week the number of charting countries for Ceno, Dico, Candra and Nook stayed fairly flat, and only Mocle jumped from 22 to 36 on 11-06. It looks more like several packages take turns getting budget, and this week it was Lento's turn (inference). When one package is pulled, users switch to the next shell and the business carries on.

Who is doing this business openly

Big brands running open video dating and live-streaming tipping have been around for years: Azar (Hyperconnect, launched 2015) charts in 11-06 countries across 81 storefronts, with the largest storefront having 230k ratings and some reaching overall Top Grossing #11; MICO (since 2014) charts in 67 countries; and Middle East local Yalla does voice social, at Top Grossing #27.

So as a product, Lento has no differentiation, and reviews say the people are fake. It's also not the same thing as the Apps that really do bracelet design (Friendship Bracelets, Bracelet DIY and similar), none of which charted this week. Lento just borrows that category's harmless look. Its entire "skill" is distribution: getting the shell through review, spreading risk across shell companies, and running installs in small countries.

If it were you

Verdict: Don't copy it. It survives because it hides a video companionship App behind bracelet copy to get past review, which violates App Store Guideline 2.3.1 (hidden features) and 4.3 (repackaged spam). Once it's investigated, the whole batch gets pulled and the developer account is banned, and reviews already call it a scam and fake people. Copying it would also require host supply, shell companies and a paid acquisition budget, which indie developers don't have. Even if you did, ten identical packages are already rotating through the same placements.

Who it's for: No one.

Who it's not for: Anyone who wants to build a product that can stay in the store for the long run.

What you can learn:

  1. Small-country charts are cheap. In storefronts like Jordan, Sri Lanka, Mauritius and Nepal, very few downloads can get you into the top 10 of a category's Top Free, and a few top-ups can put you on Top Grossing. A legitimate product can use them to test creatives and store pages cheaply, and pick up some store exposure along the way.
  2. Validate payment in one storefront first, then scale out. Lento sat on the Saudi, Egyptian and Turkish Top Grossing charts for at least a week to confirm people pay, and only then expanded to 81 countries in two days. Anyone can use that rhythm.
  3. The "not getting found" need. The demand the Canadian user pointed to is real: some people want an App on their phone that doesn't stand out. The legitimate version is privacy, disguised-icon or app-lock tools, not hiding dating inside bracelets.

How to acquire users: If you're doing the 1th or 2th build, first pick 3–5 low-barrier small countries with small budgets and test installs to see which creatives and store images convert best, then move them to the big markets.

When to move: The bar for small-country charts has always been low, so there's no rush. The window for a shell like Lento depends on when Apple cleans up, which could be weeks or months.

What would mean I got it wrong: If Lento and the Ceno batch are still charting and still taking coins in six months, it would mean Apple's cleanup of these shell packages is much slower than I assumed. That would only mean the window is longer; it still wouldn't make this worth doing.

Lento: DIY Bracelet Studio (iOS id6786220730) research report

Storefronts reviewed: all 115 storefronts in the appstore library were scanned (app_profile / app_day, 2026-10-28 to 11-06), with details on us, sa, eg, tr, vn, np, jo, br, in; the store page was read from the US storefront (2026-11-06).

One line

The store describes it as "DIY bracelet design," but once installed it's actually 18+ one-on-one live video chat with real people, tipped with coins. This is one of a matrix of "cozy-name shell packages": each sits under a shell company that has only this one App (LTD / PT / HK LIMITED), is placed in the Lifestyle category to get through review, is driven by paid installs, and users buy coins inside the App. It survives not because of the product itself but because of the distribution playbook: disguised review, spreading multiple entities, and concentrated pushes into the Middle East, North Africa, Turkey and small countries.

1. What it actually is (evidence)

  • Store copy: all about bracelets, beads, "mindful escape," and it also says "ad-free" and "Lento community" (US store page, 2026-11-06).
  • Tells on the store page:
    • Age rating 18+ (lookup returns 17+), with "In-App Controls."
    • In-app purchases are 9 coin tiers: com.lento.coins_0.99 through com.lento.coins_99.99, including large $49.99 and $99.99 tiers. A standalone bracelet tool doesn't need a coin ladder like this; it's the standard pricing for live-streaming and video-chat tipping.
    • Version 1.2.0 (2026-07-29) release notes read "Restrict users under 16 from accessing social features / Optimize user content management and community safety measures", which means the app has social and UGC features.
    • The privacy label includes "Data Used to Track You: Identifiers", i.e. attribution-based paid acquisition is connected (US store page).
  • User reviews (US store page, 2026-11-06):
    • kat3yvette(9-20): "NOT a bracelet design app… i downloaded it and it's a camgirl app"
    • Ram1452(10-15): "It's a scam and fake people"
    • Mr. Bobbington(10-15): "It's more easier to find a girl…"
    • Turkish user(10-29): "Burada görüntülü konuşma yazmıyor ama var ve çok kötü", meaning "It doesn't say video calls here, but there are, and it's really bad."
    • The developer replies are all the same customer-service script, pointing people to [email protected] or "in-app support". One 1-star review with the body "Perfect" got the reply "If it's perfect, why give 1 stars?", a sign of templated community management.
  • Rating breakdown: US 4.0 / 38 ratings, Saudi Arabia 4.54 / 35, Egypt 4.39 / 28, Canada 2.0 / 1 (iTunes lookup, 11-06). Of the 2 Saudi reviews our crawler pulled, 10-14 and 10-20 are 5-star reviews whose body is a single letter or "تطبيق" (meaning "app") (appstore.review). Empty 5-star reviews mixed with real complaints look like rating-boosting or review-prompting, but this is inference only.
  • Website lento.casa has only bracelet marketing copy and a privacy policy (Jina search results). The developer HELIX INNOVATIONS TECHNOLOGY LTD has only these 1 apps under its name. The developer_id 6786220732 and the App id differ by only 2, which suggests this developer account was opened specifically for this package (appstore.app / developer).

2. Growth data: how it "took off"

  • Before 11-05: it charted in only 8–11 storefronts a day, all on the Lifestyle Top Grossing chart, at low ranks: Saudi Arabia #92–196, Egypt #122–192, Turkey #150–189 (appstore.app_day, 10-28 to 11-04). So it already had real paying users in the Middle East, North Africa, and Turkey, just at small scale.
  • From 11-05 to 11-06 it spread suddenly: the number of charting storefronts went from 8 to 56, then to 81. Rankings moved to the Lifestyle Top Free chart: Jordan #4 (overall Top Free #147), Sri Lanka #5 (overall Top Free #186), Egypt #8 (overall Top Free #168), Mauritius #9, Vietnam #14, Turkey up from 63 to 28, India up from 81 to 28, US #174. At the same time, Nepal entered the overall Top Grossing at #78 (Lifestyle Top Grossing #6), and Saudi Lifestyle Top Grossing rose from 68 to 30 (appstore.app_profile / app_day, 11-06).
  • Rating counts didn't keep pace: across all storefronts the total is about 207, with only about 7 added in the last 21 days. Most of the dozens of newly charting storefronts show 0 ratings (appstore.app_profile). Ranking high on small-country Top Free charts while ratings stay flat fits buying installs in a batch of low-barrier small countries: in these storefronts, the Top Free top 10 requires only dozens to hundreds of downloads.
  • Not a collection problem in our data: over the same period the Lifestyle chart covered 115 storefronts daily, about 65.7k rows, with a stable methodology (chart_rank, 11-02 to 11-06).
  • Other apps from the same matrix didn't jump in sync: Ceno stayed at 81–87 storefronts, Dico 72–80, Candra 58–69, Nook 42–54; only Mocle also jumped on 11-06 from 22 to 36 storefronts. So this looks more like the apps in this batch taking turns getting extra budget, with Lento's turn this week, rather than the whole category catching a platform event (inference).

These apps share several traits: all launched between the first and second half of 2026, all sit in the Lifestyle category, all are rated 17+, all wrap a warm hobby theme (stargazing, hiking, Shiba Inu, bracelets, skill exchange), each fronts a different made-up persona, and many are published by Indonesian PT companies. Lento and Nook launched one day apart (07-13 and 07-14), which suggests they may come from the same team (inference). On appbrain, the Aglow: Live & Connect page also lists Lento as a related app.

3b. The "real" peers: one-on-one video dating and live-streaming tipping

  • Azar (Hyperconnect, 2015): charting in 81 storefronts, highest rating count 230k, with some storefronts reaching overall Top Grossing #11 (appstore, 11-06). It's an established brand that openly does video dating; Lento has to hide behind a shell.
  • MICO (MICO WORLD, 2014): charting in 67 storefronts, best category rank #5, with some storefronts at overall Top Grossing #68.
  • Yalla / YallaChat (Yalla Technology, UAE): Middle Eastern local voice social app, Top Grossing #27.
  • Chamet and other pure paid one-on-one video apps: did not appear on this week's iOS storefront charts (appstore.app_profile lookup by name returned nothing). This business is hard to sustain under its real name on iOS, which is why shell packages are needed to fill the gap (inference).

3c. The "surface" peers: real bracelet-design apps

On aso-app.com, the US "bracelet maker" keyword shows Friendship Bracelets, Friendship Bracelet Designer, and Bracelet DIY; chrome-stats also lists Jewelry Design: DIY Maker (id1613659614); the related recommendations in the il storefront include LINGYO (crystal bracelet design). These are genuine tools that did not chart this week; their scale is unverified. Lento doesn't compete with them; it only borrows the "harmless" look of this category.

4. Growth tactics

Where the money comes back from: users buy gold coins ($0.99–$99.99) and spend them on gifting hosts and buying video minutes. The key markets are Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Turkey, and similar MENA and Central/Eastern European storefronts, where it has been on the Lifestyle Top Grossing chart for at least a week. Nepal at overall Top Grossing #78 shows that a few large top-ups can chart in small countries. Under the usual model for this business (hosts paid per minute, the platform taking a cut), payback depends on a small number of whale users; when one shell is taken down, users move to the next shell (industry common knowledge, no direct evidence for this app).

5. Why it took off

  1. The demand is real, and no one serves it openly: single men in the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia have stable demand for one-on-one video companionship, but legitimate apps face review restrictions on iOS or local regulation. The evidence is that it sat on the Lifestyle Top Grossing charts in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Turkey between 10-28 and 11-04.
  2. Shell packages let it get listed and advertised: a harmless Lifestyle presentation passes review, and the ads and store page avoid sensitive terms.
  3. Concentrated budget across small countries: from 11-05 it went from a handful of storefronts to 81 storefronts in one push. In low-barrier small countries (Jordan, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Nepal), very little spend lifts it into the top 10 of the category, earning organic store exposure.
  4. A matrix spreads the risk: each package wears its own persona, so one ban doesn't drag down the others; at least 10 packages in the same matrix are running in rotation.

6. Differentiation

As a product, it is no different from Azar or MICO, and may be worse (reviews mention fake people). It is also not the same thing as a real bracelet tool. Its only "differentiation" is in distribution: shell-based review passing + a multi-persona matrix + small-country volume. That is why it worked, but this advantage is entirely copyable, has no moat, and could be pulled at any time under Apple's 4.3, 1.1.4, or 2.3.1 guidelines.

7. Visibility and copycats

  • Almost no one knows about it yet: no press coverage, 0 discussion on X and TikTok, revenue not public. Searching online turns up only automated ranking pages like appbrain, similarweb, appfigures, and icharts.
  • Copycats: it's not really "copying it"; this playbook is already a mature template in the gray-market industry. The same matrix already includes at least 9 identical packages such as Ceno, Candra, Nook, Davo, Dico, Mocle, Huma, CozySpot, and Revo. Ceno (87 storefronts, +7 ratings in 268 days) is running even harder than Lento.

8. Takeaways

  • The legitimate part: the leverage of low-barrier small-country charts. In storefronts like Jordan, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, and Nepal, a few downloads can reach the top 10 of a category, and a few top-ups can chart the Top Grossing list, which makes it cheap to test creatives and win store exposure. Also worth borrowing: validate grossing in storefronts with high willingness to pay first (Saudi Arabia, Turkey), then expand to dozens of storefronts at once.
  • The parts not to copy: disguising the app to pass review and running a matrix of fake personas violates Apple's rules (4.3 spam, 2.3.1 hidden functionality). It risks mass takedowns and developer account bans, and it directly harms users (there are complaints about "fake people and scams").

9. Uncertain

  • The specific ad channels (Meta, Google, TikTok, or Apple Search Ads), creative content, per-user acquisition cost (CPI), and return on investment (ROI) were not found.
  • Whether the "fake people" are AI or pre-recorded, or real hosts, rests on a single review and has not been verified.
  • Whether the matrix is run by one company: this is inference only, based on adjacent launch dates, identical page structures, and cross-recommendations.
  • Whether this 11-05 wave is new budget or storefronts that just unlocked is impossible to tell; the database has no history from before 10-28.
