A $8.99-a-week speedometer: DriveDeck has only 13 ratings, so how did it chart in 30 countries
What it is It turns an iPhone into a car dashboard: GPS speedometer, windshield HUD, automatic trip logging, car-badge widgets and AI car sounds, with a paywall at $6.99–$8.99 a week.
Why it took off It didn't really: it's a late follower of the wave that started when iOS 26 let CarPlay show widgets and TikTok tutorials flooded in. It charted because European stores were renamed "speedometer / HUD" to catch older search terms, and because a few subscriptions in small-country navigation charts were enough to reach the top 50.
CHow you could follow Don't build another all-in-one car widget app. You could copy its per-store naming and low-competition category picks, or sell a one-time-purchase CarPlay holiday theme pack and get users through finished videos under TikTok tutorials.

DriveDeck is an iOS app that turns an iPhone into a car dashboard: GPS speedometer, windshield HUD, automatic trip logging, car-badge widgets and AI car sounds, sold on a weekly subscription. It appears in the "Navigation" Top Grossing charts in 30 countries, yet has only 13 ratings worldwide. The app itself hasn't taken off. It is one of a large batch of copycat apps that appeared after iOS 26 added widgets to CarPlay. What's worth a look is the playbook: rename it per store, pick the lowest-barrier charts, and set a high weekly subscription price. Below: who made it, why it charted, and whether this category still has room for you.
A mom decorates her car's CarPlay for Christmas
2026 Nov 4, TikTok user @mothermillennial posted a video captioned "My husband won't put up lights yet, so at least I'll do the car first." The shot is her CarPlay screen, with every widget swapped for Christmas photos. It hit 519k views in two days; the same day she posted a tutorial that got 436k plays. Same week, a pile of similar videos, one with the steps spelled out in the caption: save a few Christmas photos, make a photo widget in Widgetsmith, then add it under Settings → General → CarPlay → your car → Widgets, "needs iOS 26 or later."
The buzz started there. In Sept 2025, iOS 26 let CarPlay screens show widgets, and TikTok quickly filled with tutorials on "making your car screen pretty," mostly seasonal themes made by women. A new App Store category called "Car Widgets" grew out of it.
DriveDeck caught this wave, just late. On Oct 29 it shipped version 1.4.5, whose release notes said "after subscribing, the 'how to add widgets' tutorial opens right away." Two days later the 48 ratings it had gathered in the US store (average 4.06) reset to zero and started counting again from 0 (App Store US, 10-30 to 10-31).
What it is and who made it
The first line of the store page reads "DriveDeck turns your iPhone into a real car dashboard." The feature list is long:
- Real-time GPS speed with a full-screen driving mode; the HUD mode flips large numbers so you can read them reflected on the windshield at night;
- Automatic trip logging that starts and stops when your phone connects to CarPlay or car Bluetooth, shown on CarPlay and Apple Watch;
- 60+ car sounds that play when you connect, disconnect, or arrive home; "AI Sounds" makes the car call your name in a voice and language you choose;
- 15+ home-screen and lock-screen widgets (plates, badges, gauges), plus an AI widget: pick your car model, upload a photo of yourself, and it generates a custom image.
Free to download, then straight to the paywall: weekly subscription $6.99, weekly with trial $8.99, annual $29.99 / $39.99. Car sounds, AI voices, all widgets, the HUD and themes are locked behind it.
The developer is EntertainTech Solutions OOD in Bulgaria. Its website blowy.tech claims 16 products, 10M installs, and a team of 20 spread across 5 countries. The same developer account also has Talking Pet AI, AI Logo Maker, antique appraisal, AI hairstyle, AI tattoo, Ozempic weight loss, daily Bible verses, ear training, and kitesurf wave reports. In Oct 22 it also released a navigation app, "Roadcrew: Drive Tracker." The pattern: whichever category is hot, put an "AI + subscription" shell on it, keep it if it charts, leave it if it doesn't. DriveDeck was released in Jul 2026 10.
13 ratings, charting in 30 countries
Start with how many people actually use it. Global ratings were 58 on Oct 30, then reset to zero on Oct 31 and climbed back to 13 by Nov 6 (US store: 10, average 4.8). It's been live for 4 months, and the US cumulative rating never passed 50. The two US reviews left before the reset were both 1 stars. The Oct 14 one says "Doesn't work at all", and the Oct 20 one says "The app doesn't work. The contact us inside the app doesn't work…they don't even respond". So the 4.8 rating on the store page now is from ratings collected after the reset, not a fair read on reputation. (Whether the developer triggered the reset on purpose is unverified; the timing lines up with the 1.4.5 release, but that's an inference.)
Now the charts. In Nov 6 it appeared in charts across 30 countries, mostly Top Grossing navigation charts: Bulgaria #36 (once reaching #11-02 ... 4), Estonia #42, Poland #55, France #60, Switzerland #65, US #100. Apart from the US and Netherlands, every one of those stores had 0 ratings. Germany dropped steadily from #28 in Oct 41 to #6 in Nov 171.
These numbers make sense because the navigation Top Grossing charts in small countries have a very low bar. Few paid navigation apps exist, so in markets like Bulgaria and Estonia a handful of $7–$9 weekly subscriptions can be enough to reach the top 50 (inference). "Charting in 30 countries" should not be read as "people in 30 countries use it"; it only means each store has a few people paying. One third-party site estimates about $9K in monthly revenue, but it is only an estimate and can't be matched to chart rankings.
Where users come from: changing names
The most worth copying move is this: the same app gets a different name in each store.
| Store | Name in the store |
|---|---|
| US, Japan and 4 other stores | DriveDeck: Car Widgets & HUD |
| 20+ European stores | Speedometer & Car HUD Widget |
| Germany, Austria | GPS Tacho, Auto Widgets & HUD |
| France | HUD & Compteur de Vitesse GPS |
| Spain, Portugal, Italy, Mexico | "GPS speedometer + HUD" in each local language |
(App Store storefront pages, 11-06. The name found in the Bulgarian store 11-06 is "Speedometer & Car HUD Widget".)
The logic is clear: in the US, "Car Widgets" is a new term TikTok popularized, so it uses that; in small European language markets, "speedometer" and "HUD" are old terms people have searched for over a decade, so it uses those. Its privacy policy file is named CarWidgetsPrivacyPolicy.html, while links on third-party pages still point to speedometer-and-car-hud-widget. That suggests it originally was "Speedometer & Car HUD Widget" and only later renamed the US listing to ride "Car Widgets" (inference).
Outside store search, there is almost no other channel. Searching "DriveDeck" on TikTok turns up only a car-accessories shop with the same name; nobody mentions it on X; there is no press coverage. We also found no ads from this developer in the Meta and TikTok ad libraries, but those libraries have limited coverage: not finding them doesn't mean they weren't run, and Apple Search Ads aren't visible either.
One more point: the tutorials that got hundreds of thousands of views on TikTok mostly taught free general-purpose widget apps like Widgetsmith, not car-specific subscription apps. The heat is real, but very little of it reaches DriveDeck.
Who it's competing with: two categories, and it sits at the back of both
It is squeezed into two categories at once.
The newly risen car widget category (US ratings, 11-06):
| Product | Launched | Scale | Compared with DriveDeck |
|---|---|---|---|
| myCar: Car Widgets & Dashboard | 2025-11-20 | 14,077 ratings, 7 days, charted in 220,52 stores | Category pioneer, focused on launch sounds and CarPlay widgets, has a website; DriveDeck launched 8 months later |
| Car Dashboard Widgets - HiCar | 2026-05-19 | 1,586 ratings, charted in 106 stores, best #2 | Three times as many stores, similar features |
| CARFACE Car Widgets & Lyrics | 2026-07-08 | 659 ratings, best US navigation Top Grossing #24 | Launched the same week as DriveDeck, with live lyrics as its selling point |
| CarSkin, CarUp, WiGet, iCar, Cartune, Carz, HeyCar, moCar, Carbit, 1CarDash, CarMood and 20 more | 2026-05 to 11-02 | 0 to 184 ratings, mostly single digits | Nearly identical names and features |
| Apps from indie developers such as Otto and addcarwidgets | 2026 | Very small | Sells a one-time purchase, no subscription. Otto's creator posted on r/CarPlay titled "I got tired of paying a subscription to change my CarPlay clock, so I built Otto" |
| The built-in CarPlay widgets in iOS 26, plus general apps like Widgetsmith | 2025-09 | System feature | Free; most TikTok tutorials teach this route |
Older GPS speedometer / HUD apps: Speedometer Simple (launched 2014, 131,867 US ratings), Speedometer 55 (65,049 ratings), GPS Speedometer MPH Tracker (14,078 ratings, also subscription-based). These apps are competing in the European stores for exactly the terms DriveDeck renamed itself to chase.
Taken feature by feature, DriveDeck's speedometer and HUD are matched by older apps, and its widgets and car sounds are matched by myCar. No single feature is unique to it. In the US store it is three orders of magnitude smaller than myCar.
What you can take away
The app itself isn't worth copying, but three moves are:
- Name it per store: in mature markets, use the trending keywords of the moment; in small-language markets, use the old search terms people always type. Localize both the name and the subtitle. It costs almost nothing, and most indie devs skip it.
- Go after low-bar charts: pick categories with few paid apps, like navigation, and a handful of subscriptions can get you on the Top Grossing chart in a small country. What you get is exposure and the "charted" signal, not revenue.
- Turn tiny volume into money: a weekly subscription at $7–9 means one paying user is worth a few dollars, so a few dozen downloads can still chart. The cost is bad reviews and refunds. DriveDeck's two 1-star reviews say "doesn't work" and "can't reach anyone."
If it were you
C: Copy the playbook if you like, but this app isn't worth the money. The car-widget category saw 20+ near-identical apps appear in the US store within six months. The leader, myCar, already has over 10,000 ratings. Users are losing patience: someone on Reddit built a one-time-purchase version specifically to fight weekly subscriptions, and TikTok tutorials are teaching people to build their own with free apps. DriveDeck itself has only gotten visibility by renaming and riding small-country charts.
Who it fits: anyone with a utility subscription app who wants to expand to more stores can learn from its per-store naming and category picking. A small studio already running an app portfolio with a paywall and localization pipeline could also spend a week or two testing a car shell in small markets.
Who it doesn't fit: indie devs hoping to build a business on a single car-widget app. The category is crowded, the leaders have first-mover advantage, and iOS plus free apps are driving prices down. If you enter now, you're most likely the #21 app.
If you do build here, how: don't make another "does everything" car widget. The real demand on TikTok is from women who want to re-theme their car's display by season, and they want it pretty, simple, and not subscription-based. Consider a "CarPlay theme pack": Christmas, Halloween, Valentine's, one set per season, sold as a one-time purchase or per pack, with Widgetsmith's five-or-six-step setup compressed into one step. Or go the other way and build a clean one-time-purchase speedometer / HUD, focused on one or two European languages.
How to get users: for theme packs, use TikTok. Under "CarPlay Christmas" tutorials, post your own finished videos from a real account, with the steps spelled out in the caption. Put keywords like "CarPlay Themes" and "Christmas CarPlay" in the store name. For the speedometer route, rely on store search, name the app in the local language, and learn from DriveDeck.
Deadline: theme packs have to ship ahead of the holiday. This year's Christmas is already late, so you can at most catch the tail end. The next one is Valentine's Day in February 2027, so get it on the store before mid-January.
Signs you've misjudged it: ① Apple adds official CarPlay themes or wallpapers in the next iOS release, and the demand for third-party themes disappears. ② Leaders like myCar and HiCar launch one-time-purchase or free themes, and your price advantage is gone. ③ You post several finished videos in the same style as the popular tutorials, they pass 10k views, but store downloads don't move. That means viewers watch, then build it themselves with free tools, and won't pay for it.

DriveDeck: Car Widgets & HUD (iOS 6787119953) research report
In one line: DriveDeck is not a product that broke out on its own. It's a small follower in the car-widget wave that hit in the second half of 2026. It's built by EntertainTech Solutions OOD (blowy.tech), a Bulgarian multi-niche subscription studio. It shows up on navigation Top Grossing charts in 30 countries, mainly because the bar for small-country navigation charts is extremely low. It also renamed itself "Speedometer & Car HUD Widget" in 20 European countries to ride the old GPS speedometer search term, then used weekly subscriptions at $6.99–8.99 to turn a few downloads into enough revenue to chart. The real breakout was the category, led by myCar (DOFUapps, listed 2025-11), which took off after iOS 26 added widgets to CarPlay and TikTok filled up with tutorials.
1. How to read the data card (correcting first)
- The rating count was reset, not lost users. The US rating count went from 10-28 to 45,10-30 to 48, with an average of 4.06. 10-31 became 0, then 1, 3, 5… 11-06 climbed back to 9, with an average of 4.78 (appstore library app_snapshot, us). Version 1.4.5 (10-29) shipped at the same time, matching Apple's option to reset ratings on a new release. The two US one-star reviews left before the reset were both 1 stars: 10-14 said "Doesn't work at all," and 10-20 said "The app doesn't work. The contact us inside the app doesn't work… they don't even respond" (Apple review RSS, us). So the card's "7-day rating change of -45" is an artifact of the reset. The 4.8 average after the reset is a fresh start and shouldn't be read as a sign of reputation.
- Volume is tiny. Before the reset, total ratings across all stores were 58 (10-30). After the reset, they climbed to 13 in 6 days (daily_all_countries data card). Since launch 4 months ago, the US has accumulated fewer than 50 ratings.
- How solid the charts are. The US navigation Top Grossing rank bounced between 78 and 111 (10-28 #78,11-06 #100). Its best showing was #4 in the Bulgarian navigation Top Grossing chart (11-02), but that market has only 0 ratings. In Germany it fell from #41 at 10-28 down to #171 at 11-06 (appstore library app_day). The bar to chart in navigation in small countries is very low, so a few weekly subscriptions are enough. "Charting in 30 countries" should not be read as "30 countries have people using it."
- Different names in each store (ASO approach). The library holds 8 names for this app. 20+ European stores use "Speedometer & Car HUD Widget." Germany and Austria use "GPS Tacho, Auto Widgets & HUD," France uses "HUD & Compteur de Vitesse GPS," and Spain, Portugal, Italy, and Mexico each use a local-language "GPS speedometer + HUD." Only 4 stores, including the US and Japan, use "DriveDeck: Car Widgets & HUD" (appstore library app_name, 2026-11-06). The privacy policy filename is CarWidgetsPrivacyPolicy.html, while the appstoretracker link slug is speedometer-and-car-hud-widget. This suggests the app originally launched as "Speedometer & Car HUD Widget" and only renamed itself in the US to ride the "Car Widgets" trend.
- Pricing: free download, weekly subscription at $6.99 / weekly subscription with trial at $8.99, annual subscription at $29.99 / $39.99 (in-app purchase prices recorded at recall). The paywall locks all car sounds, AI voices, AI widgets, all widgets, the HUD, and themes (App Store description). Third-party estimates put monthly revenue at around $9K (appstoretracker.com page; estimate, unverified).
2. Competitors
It competes on both fronts: a newer "car widget / CarPlay customization" category and an older "GPS speedometer / HUD" category.

| ClipTone: Ringtone & Car Sound | 2024 | 121,415 | The car sounds and ringtones side |
Bottom line: both lines are crowded. DriveDeck's scale ranks last across both.
3. Growth tactics (where users come from)
- Store search / ASO (confirmed): Renamed per storefront. In Europe it uses "Speedometer / Tacho / Compteur de Vitesse + HUD" to catch the older speedometer search volume; in the US it uses "Car Widgets" to catch the new category heat. The subtitle and description pile in speedometer, HUD, trip logging, CarPlay, car sounds and AI widgets.
- Riding category heat (heat is confirmed, capturing it is not): CarPlay widget tutorials do well on TikTok, e.g. @mothermillennial 11-04 with two videos at 519k and 436k views, @gor_jess2 March with one at 509k. There are also accounts built to funnel into specific apps, like @carplaywidgets (promoting Dashly) and @carplay.application (promoting myCar, 130k views) (TikHub search "car widgets app"). Users learn from TikTok that you can install widgets on your car screen, then search the store, and long-tail apps get a slice.
- Own content / creators (none found): Searching TikTok for "DriveDeck" only returns same-named car accessory shops and license plate decoration brands, with no content about this app (TikHub, 2026-11-06). Zero mentions in the X local corpus (x-radar). No media coverage.
- Paid acquisition (none found): The Meta ad library and TikTok ad library (EU only) show no advertisers for EntertainTech, DriveDeck or blowy.tech (metaads / tiktokads libraries, 2026-11-06). These libraries only track products on our list, so finding nothing doesn't mean no spend. The "paid push to chart" claim has no direct evidence; Apple Search Ads aren't visible.
- Rating management (confirmed): The 1.4.5 version wiped the ratings that included 1-star negative reviews, resetting the count from 4.06 to 4.78. The developer replies to negative reviews with a template (recall record).
- Studio portfolio (confirmed): The same developer account has 16 apps on the App Store: Talking Pet AI (1,573 ratings), AI Logo Maker (513), Antica antique identifier, AI hairstyle, AI tattoo, AI trip planner, TCG card scanner, Ozempic weight loss, daily Bible verses, ear training, deer hunting scorecard, kitesurf conditions Blowy, plus 10-22 just-launched second navigation app "Roadcrew: Drive Tracker" (iTunes lookup, artistId 1770569733). The website claims 16 products, 10M installs, and people across 20 countries (blowy.tech, 5). The play: whichever category is hot, ship an AI + subscription shell, keep it if it charts, shelve it if not.
4. Why it could "chart" (not why it "broke out")
- The category is heating up: iOS 26 (2025-09) added widgets to CarPlay, and myCar drove demand on TikTok with its startup sound and in-car widget. Since May 2026, more than 20 "Car Widgets" apps have launched on the US App Store. DriveDeck was one of the ones from July (appstore library app / app_name).
- Low bar: Navigation apps chart in the top grossing lists of small storefronts like Bulgaria, Estonia and Slovenia, where a few $7–9 weekly subscriptions can put you in the top 50. DriveDeck has 0 ratings in those stores yet still ranks #4–66.
- Dual-keyword ASO: "Speedometer" is an old term people search all year, while car widgets is the new hot term. It covers both.
- High-priced weekly subscription: Each user is worth several dollars, so even a small volume can show up on the top grossing chart.
5. Differentiation
What sets it apart from other car widget apps is that it bundles a speedometer, HUD (windshield reflection), automatic trip logging (starts on CarPlay or Bluetooth connection), AI car-owner widgets and AI car sound greetings into one package, with a carbon fiber and cyan car-screen look. But taken one by one, these features exist in old speedometer apps and in apps like myCar, and none is unique to it. Differentiation isn't why it charts: in the US store it ranks behind myCar, HiCar and CARFACE, with rating counts two to three orders of magnitude lower. What worked was ASO and the low bar of small storefronts.
6. Visibility
Almost nobody knows about it yet. No media coverage, and no content about the app on X or TikTok. The only revenue figure is a third-party estimate from appstoretracker ($9K). But the category is already crowded: in the US store, from 2026 5–November, more than 20 apps with the same name and function launched, and on Reddit people are already building free alternatives in protest of the weekly subscription.
7. Takeaways
- The same app uses different primary keywords in each storefront: mature markets ride new hot terms, while smaller European language markets lean on evergreen old terms, plus localization.
- Picking a small-storefront-friendly category like "Navigation" gets the app charting across 30 countries, which buys exposure and chart signals.
- Clear early negative reviews when shipping a new version.
- Studio model: one paywall plus one AI generation capability, applied in bulk to hot categories.
8. Uncertain
- Whether it ran Apple Search Ads or Meta / TikTok ads (our ad libraries didn't track it).
- Actual revenue: only a third-party estimate, and the absolute numbers don't match the chart positions.
- Retention: the negative reviews before the reset centered on "doesn't work / can't reach support", so retention is likely poor, but there's no data.
- Whether the 10-31 rating reset was the developer's own choice or came from Apple: inferred to be a deliberate reset (it lines up with the 1.4.5 release date), not verified.
