"What if you could hear God speak directly?" How a Frenchman sold hourly prayer reminders as a subscription via TikTok

What it is A French-language Christian prayer app that sends a prayer reminder every hour from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., with prayer courses, an intercession list and a record of answered prayers, sold as a monthly or yearly subscription.

Why it took off The founder first built 100k followers on TikTok as a "Christian entrepreneur," then launched a brand account posting daily scripture shorts and 8-minute faith mini-dramas, funneling young French evangelicals straight into the app.

A68How you could copy it Run the same playbook with another language and church community: Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish-speaking Latin America, English-speaking African evangelicals. Have a real believer front a persona account, then run a daily scripture brand account. Keep the app light and don't lock payment behind the first screen.

Follow-up score 68: almost nobody in the app-builder circles knows about it, the format is simple, and non-French markets are still open, so it's about content rather than big-company resources. Deductions: the core channel rests on the founder's real faith identity, so followers have to be believers themselves, and Hallow or YouVersion could ship hourly reminders as a feature at any time. Prayz, built by French indie developer Kenny Ahmad, does one thing: from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., it sends you a notification every hour to pray. It never got press and nobody in the app-builder circles has mentioned it, yet it sat in the French App Store Lifestyle Top Grossing chart for ten days straight and has nearly 30k Google Play installs. Almost all the traffic came from two TikTok accounts: the founder's own, and a brand account that hit 200k followers six weeks after launch. Below: what it is, how it grew, where the money comes from, who it competes with, and whether you could build one in another language.

A 8-minute video

On Oct 29, 2026, the TikTok account @prayzappli posted a nearly 8-minute vertical short drama, with a single line as the title: "Et si tu pouvais entendre Dieu directement ?" (What if you could hear God directly?).

It opens at a wedding: the groom is about to put the ring on the bride when a voice in his ear says "don't marry her." He stops in front of 300 guests. Two days later police arrest the bride, who has already married three men for money, and he nearly became the fourth. Over the next seven minutes the protagonist uses this "voice" to find a five-year-old girl lost on the third basement level of a parking garage, passes a message from God to a stranger at a laundromat, and talks down a riot in a square. At minute 7 the narrator turns to the camera: "You may never hear him speak out loud. But God is always speaking to those who want to listen. To hear him every day, use Prayz: every hour it asks you to pause for a few seconds to pray, and it teaches you how to listen." The story then continues and ends with a question: "If you heard him speak, what's the first thing you'd ask him? Write it in the comments."

By Nov 6, the video had 510k views, 136k likes and 1,452 comments. The most-liked comment (9,038 likes) was "Do people really have this ability?" The second (6,457 likes) was "How do you start living this life with the Holy Spirit?" Those are exactly the questions the app wants to answer.

The same video was reposted unchanged to 11-01 and 11-04, getting 300k and 170k views (TikTok, 11-06).

What it is

Prayz (listed on the App Store as "Prayz - Aide à la prière") is a Christian prayer app, mainly in French with some English. Its core is an hourly push: it can be a one-line reminder, or a guided prayer generated around a theme you pick, so you can pray without opening the app. Extras include:

  • Prayer courses: "14 days to learn to pray" and "21 days to break an addiction," plus themes like healing, family, protection and spiritual warfare;
  • "My Prayers": write down the people and situations on your heart, and the app keeps reminding you to pray for them;
  • "God's Answers": log which prayers were answered;
  • Prayer groups and streak tracking.

The store blurb opens with "Build a real prayer life, one hour at a time, without guilt and without forgetting." Subscriptions are €9.99/month or €89.99/year, with a 7-day trial. The developer is listed as Kenny Ahmad, a French sole trader who has only this one app; the iOS version launched in Jul 15 and the Google Play version in Aug 3.

User comments show what it actually sells: "Even when I'm surrounded by people at work and can't pray every time, the reminder makes me quietly pray a line and brings my eyes back to Jesus" (App Store France, July); "If you're too busy at work to pray all day, it makes you pray once an hour" (July).

Android is bigger than iOS, which suggests a large share of users are in French-speaking Africa and on low-cost Android phones.

How it took off

Prayz didn't start with an app and then look for traffic. It started with an audience and then built the app.

Build the persona first. In Apr 2026 20, Kenny started posting "Christian + entrepreneur" videos on his personal account @kennydeenspam (TikTok name Kenny Deen), with lines like "go all in" and "no neighbor will pay your bills for you," getting hundreds of views. His wife Maeva also appears on camera. The account now has 107k followers, 3.18M likes and 846 videos, and its bio reads "helping you put God back at the center of your life."

Validate with a web version. In Jun 5, he posted on his personal account, "I built a free app that helps you do this: Prayz.net" (114k views). In Jun 21 he added, "Download it from the Prayz.net website, not Google or the App Store" (308k views). So before any store listing, he caught TikTok traffic with a web version (add it to your home screen to get reminders). iOS launched in July, Android in August.

Recruit creators and launch a brand account. In Sep 4, he posted a video publicly recruiting creators: "I'm looking for creators to talk about my app, fame doesn't matter." In Sep 22, the brand account @prayzappli posted its earliest known video. Over the next six weeks it posted 171 videos, growing to 202k followers and 1.86M likes. In Sep 24, a "Jean 14:16" video got 2.14M views and 370k likes.

The brand account's content comes in two forms:

  • Daily scripture shorts: titles are just a verse reference plus #Chretien, such as "Genèse 21:17" (Genesis 21:17). Each runs one to two minutes on a specific anxiety, like "You're not with your kids, how do you know God is protecting them? Here are three points," then works through the passage, with a mid-video line like "Follow us, a video a day, pray through the Bible." Posting 3–5 videos a day, most get thousands to tens of thousands of views, and every few days one hits a hundred thousand plus.
  • Long-form mini-dramas: like the 8-minute opener, with a full storyline where the app appears for only about half a minute at minute 7. When a hook works, it gets reposted unchanged.

The founder also reposts the same scripture videos on Facebook, and there's an @prayzappli on Instagram. Total views for the brand account's videos since September are estimated at over 10M (summed from the videos we could pull, an estimate).

Paid ads: no evidence found. Neither account's videos are ad creatives, and the Meta and TikTok ad libraries show nothing for it, but that doesn't rule out spending (unverified). Judging by organic reach, the current growth can be explained without buying traffic.

Tactics that keep users in the product

  • The push is the product: 15 notifications a day, and each one delivers value instead of begging you to open the app. The user line "even if I can't pray, the reminder makes me quietly pray a line" is exactly this.
  • Pray about one thing until it's answered: the store description quotes Luke 11 on "persistent prayer" and 1 Thessalonians on "pray without ceasing," turning repeated reminders into something that makes sense in faith terms.
  • Invite referral: the web version says invite 1 friends for 2 months of membership, or 6 friends for 1 year.
  • Groups: joining a prayer group is free, creating one costs money.

Where the money comes from, and what users say

Hard paywall: you need to start a 7-day trial before using the app. It brings in revenue and also bad reviews. Aug 30, a one-star review: "I really wanted to try it, but you have to start a subscription trial before you can enter the app. Too pushy. Even with a reminder two days before it ends, careless people will miss it. Feels like a subscription trap." Aug 2, a four-star review: "Overall very good, but too much is paid, and now even prayer reminders cost money. Sorry, I uninstalled." (App Store France)

Recent reviews are almost all five-star one-liners: "May God repay you a hundredfold" and "I think I've found the perfect helper" (10–November). Rating 4.66, and the main complaint is the paywall.

Who it's competing with

French-language Christian apps clearly picked up in 2026, but most focus on Bible reading:

Dove (English, 2026-03)US store rating 0Same concept, never took off
Muslim Pro, MAWAQIT, etc.Tens of thousands to 550k ratings in FranceMuslim "prayer time reminder" apps, the original of the Prayz format

Two things are clear. First, "timed prayer reminders" is not a new idea. Muslim prayer apps have done it thoroughly, and English versions exist. Dove, the same concept, has had zero ratings eight months after launch. The features are not the barrier. Second, Prayz took off because of its channel: the founder's own faith identity, plus a brand account that posts daily and makes short dramas. I found no one copying it directly in the French-speaking market.

If it were you

One-line verdict: Worth following. Copy the set: "faith identity + content account + push-style subscription tool." Change the language and the church community you target, and don't go head-to-head with it in the French market.

Who it suits: 1–3 people. At least one of you is a devout believer who can talk about faith on camera sincerely (this can't be faked, and comments will show it). One person can produce scripture short videos daily and occasionally film a short drama. The app itself is light: push notifications, courses, checklists, groups. One person can finish it in one to two months.

Who it doesn't suit: People who aren't believers and just want to copy a template for a "religious traffic business" (this audience is sensitive to fakeness). People who only want to buy ads or wait for organic store traffic. People who can't handle reviews complaining about "subscription traps," or who don't want to deal with religious controversy.

How to do it:

  • Changing language and audience: Evangelicals in Brazilian Portuguese and Latin American Spanish are the biggest pool. In English, look at English-speaking Africa such as Nigeria and Ghana (Android, low prices, high faith intensity; Prayz has already proven this layer in French-speaking Africa). German, Italian, and Korean church communities are also worth examining.
  • Keep the product's skeleton: hourly push (can be a single line, or a generated guided prayer), topic courses, a prayer request list with answered-prayer records, groups, check-ins, and invite-to-get-membership.
  • Pricing: Subscription with a 7-day trial is fine, but don't lock everything at the door, and don't charge for basic reminders. Those are its two biggest complaints in reviews. Android and African markets need a low-price tier.

How to get users:

  • Start by using your personal account to say "who I am, what I believe," build two to three months of audience, then promote the app. Before launch, you can use the web version to catch traffic and see if anyone stays.
  • Then open a brand account: titles only give the scripture reference, several posts a day, each post addressing one specific anxiety (children, money, addiction, marriage) plus a passage. Once a week, test one long short drama, with the app appearing only for a few dozen seconds in the second half. Repost the hooks that work, unchanged.
  • Publicly recruit local believer creators to talk about your app, regardless of follower count.

When to move: Prayz's brand account only took off at the end of September, and I haven't seen similar accounts outside French (no systematic check). Launching in a new language within six months and getting one video past one million views is a reasonably safe bet. If you wait until mid-2027, big players like Hallow or Prayz's own English version will likely have taken the English market.

What would mean you read it wrong:

  • Prayz dropped out of the top 150 in France's Lifestyle Top Grossing chart by late November, and Play daily new installs fell to dozens. This suggests that once TikTok slows, subscriptions don't hold;
  • Hallow and YouVersion launched "hourly prayer reminders" and pushed them hard. The feature got absorbed by platforms;
  • After three months of your personal account, nothing has passed 100k views, or brand videos aren't driving downloads. This suggests your audience doesn't respond to this, or you lack the real faith identity. Don't force it.

Total views retrievable for the brand account since 9-22: about 10M+; the founder account about 4.7M since April. The founder also reposts the same "Luc 11:1 #Chretien" videos on Facebook (kenny.ahmad.520), ending with a Prayz pitch. There's also Instagram @prayzappli and a landing page prayzappli.com (labeled "App Store & Google Play 4.8 rating").

Growth logic: the founder first builds a "Christian entrepreneur" persona on a personal account to gather a French Christian audience → uses the personal account to drive traffic straight to the web version (not even on stores) to validate demand → lists on both platforms → in September opens a standalone brand account and uses high-frequency, low-cost short videos of "verse + emotional hook" to mass-produce hits, with comments and bio driving downloads. This is a textbook founder-as-channel + brand-account content matrix play.

Paid ads: Prayz and Kenny Ahmad don't appear as advertisers in our Meta / TikTok (Europe) / Google ad libraries. But these libraries only track listed products, and Prayz isn't on the list, so not finding them doesn't mean they didn't spend (unverified). Judging from the organic TikTok view volume, current growth can be explained without paid acquisition.

Other retention/referral mechanics (from the prayz.net web interface):

  • Invite friends: every 1 people invited earns 2 month(s) of Premium, 6 people = 1 year(s). Built-in referral loop.
  • "Pray together": free to join a prayer group (creating a group costs money), so social ties keep people around.
  • Hourly notifications + streak tracking + a personal prayer list repeatedly reminding you "until it comes true" (the App description cites Luc 11:5-10, 1 Th 5:17, "pray without ceasing"). The notification itself becomes the product, giving natural high-frequency touchpoints, the core of subscription retention.
  • Pushes a "Salvation prayer" to new believers, targeting young evangelicals who want to restart prayer or just came to faith, which closely matches the founder's content audience.

III. Competitors

The French-speaking Christian app market has been clearly heating up for 2026 years:

Islamic prayer apps (Muslim Pro, MAWAQIT, Athan Pro, Khushu, FivePrayer)iOS/AndroidYearsHuge in the France marketThe functional prototype is "remind me to pray on time", which Muslim apps have already perfected; Prayz essentially carries this format over to Christians

Conclusion: "timed prayer reminders" aren't new (Muslim prayer-time apps and the English Prayminder already exist), and French Christian apps aren't scarce either (2026 years of indie developers crowding in: Bibly, Bibleo, Bible Instant, Loucio). Prayz's gap is the combination of "French + young evangelicals + turning prayer into an hourly push-notification habit", but what actually made it take off is the channel.

4. Why it made the list

  1. The founder brings his own audience: Kenny Deen has been running a "Christian entrepreneur" persona on TikTok since April; before the app was listed, his personal account's videos with hundreds of thousands of views sent traffic straight to the prayz.net web version (06-21 videos, 308k plays).
  2. A brand-account content machine: @prayzappli opened 9-22, posts 6 times per 171 weeks, 200k followers, peak single video 2.14M views; the format is minimal (verse number + #chretien + emotional hook), repeatable daily, and the same hook gets reposted.
  3. Validate on PWA before the stores: in June they collected users and tested willingness to pay on the web version, then listed on iOS in July and Android in August.
  4. The product mechanics are naturally high-frequency: hourly pushes = 15 touchpoints a day; the prayer list "until it comes true", streaks, and groups all drive return visits; inviting 6 people earns 1 year(s), a referral loop.
  5. High pricing with trial conversion: 9.99 €/month, 89.99 €/year (the web page anchors with "€1.73/week"), 7-day trial; the France Lifestyle Top Grossing chart has held steady at #60–120.
  6. The long tail in French Africa: Senegal's Top Grossing chart once reached #19, Android has 29k installs, and French-speaking African evangelicals are a large group with little competition.

5. Differentiation

The differentiator is hourly passive prayer reminders: the notification itself is a prayer, so you don't need to open the app, paired with a list of "keep praying for someone/something until it's answered". It's different from Bible-reading apps (YouVersion, Bibly), audio meditation (Hallow), and Catholic institutional apps (Prions, YouPray), and it fits young evangelicals who want to pray but keep forgetting and feel guilty about it (the copy repeatedly stresses sans culpabilité). But this isn't the main reason it took off: English apps with the same concept (Dove, Prayminder) didn't take off, and Muslim apps did this long ago; Prayz mainly took off through the founder's TikTok persona + the brand account's daily content. The differentiation gives the content an easy hook ("Priez sans cesse, enfin simple") and helps subscriptions retain users.

6. Visibility

  • No record of revenue on TrustMRR or in public disclosures (Jina search found nothing); x-radar shows 0 mentions of "prayz" in the last 90 days; no media coverage.
  • But it's already very visible in French Christian TikTok circles (the brand account has 200k followers, the founder 107k), and the founder talks about "Vivre de son app" and "Comment vivre de son app" on TikTok. Revenue isn't public, but the founder openly talks about making money from the app.
  • Conclusion: it's circulating in a small circle (French Christian TikTok); for the app-builder community, almost nobody knows about it yet.

VII. Copycats

No French product found that directly copies "hourly prayer reminders". Loucio (2026-09-29) is a French Catholic AI prayer companion that launched around the same time, with a different positioning. Dove (2026-03) in English has the same concept but 0 rating and predates Prayz, so it doesn't count as a copy.

VIII. What to take from it

  • Religious/faith category: find a category with a mature form (Muslim prayer-time reminders) and transplant it to another faith and another language.
  • The founder first builds an "identity + values" persona account, then promotes a tool to the same audience; open a standalone brand account and post templated short videos daily, reposting the same hook over and over.
  • Ship a PWA first and use TikTok to validate, then go to the stores.
  • Make the push notification the core product (once an hour = value delivered), rather than relying on open rates.
  • Android + French-speaking Africa is an underpriced long tail.

9. Uncertain

  • Whether paid ads run (Meta/TikTok/Google libraries don't track it) is unverified; whether the brand account's hits were boosted via Spark Ads is unverified.
  • Actual revenue: only the French Lifestyle Top Grossing rank 60–120 as indirect evidence, unverified.
  • @prayzappli 9-22 I'm not sure whether there were old videos deleted before (06-27 founder is @Prayz on the account).
  • We don't have the grade curve for before 10-28, so we can't confirm how big the jump was when the September TikTok hit products came in.
