A creator with 210k followers was promoting it the day after launch: the mass-seeding playbook of a golf swing app, and why it didn't break out

What it is A subscription app where you film your golf swing on your phone and AI does posture tracking and frame-by-frame feedback. About $6.99 a month, and it can't be used without starting the free trial.

Why it got attention It didn't really take off: its parent company ran a TikTok creator and faceless-account network, proven on the guitar app Strum, to push it. It briefly appeared on small-country bestseller charts, US volume is very small, and the product is no different from many others.

CHow you could follow this Don't build yet another AI swing analyzer. Learn its playbook: launch-day seeding from a main account, serialized content from mid-size creators, and faceless accounts posting "pro vs me" every day. Apply it to a sport nobody has claimed yet, provided you get recognition accurate and have a one-line selling point that is easy to explain.

Grade C: golf swing analysis already has the acquired Sportsbox, the growing Swing Coach, and 18Birdies' built-in feature; Eagle itself didn't take off despite the mass seeding. You can learn a reusable creator playbook from it, but following this product isn't worth it. Still little known

Eagle is a golf app where you film your swing on your phone and AI gives frame-by-frame feedback. It launched in Aug 4 on a subscription model. It has rankings on the Sports bestseller charts in more than twenty countries, which looks like traction, but in three months the US store has only 172 ratings, and most of the chart appearances are in very low-barrier small countries like Pakistan, Indonesia and Thailand. The product itself isn't worth following; what's worth watching is how the company behind it uses an off-the-shelf creator pipeline to push a new app out on launch day.

Aug 6, a video explaining "the root cause of a slice"

Aug 6, the day after Eagle launched, the golf creator @michaelalexandergolf with 212k followers posted a TikTok video captioned "You need to know the route cause of your slice. Download the Eagle Swing Analysis App". It got 88k views. On Aug 20 they posted another one, with 38k views (TikTok, viewed 11-06).

A new app with a main-account launch the second day means this campaign was scheduled before launch. The day before, Aug 5, the US App Store saw 6 five-star reviews in one day: "I was stuck at 15 for years and spent a lot on lessons", "Bought the subscription on a whim, and it actually works", "Saved me from paying for expensive coaching". Reviews in the following weeks trickled to one or two a month.

What it is

Film a swing on your phone, and the app tracks your body posture, splits the backswing, downswing and follow-through, marks posture, tempo and swing-plane problems frame by frame, then gives a few practice suggestions you can save to track progress. The store page calls it "turn your phone into your personal swing coach".

Monetization is a hard paywall: after opening it you get a rating request first, then are asked to start a 1-day free trial, and you can't use it without one. The price mentioned in the negative reviews is $6.99 a month (App Store reviews, 9-15).

It is made by W185 Holdings, a small company registered in Wyoming and operating in Brooklyn, with 8 apps. The one actually making money is the guitar learning app Strum: launched in August 2025 years ago, with over 20k US ratings, and third-party estimates of $25–300k per month (estimates from ScreensDesign and appsprint). Eagle's terms page is hosted on eagle-golf.github.io, the same template as Strum's strum-app.github.io. The company's approach: open a single-feature AI app for each vertical, and run the same paywall and promotion process for each.

"Charted in 23 countries" sounds like a lot, but on the day it ranked #37 in Pakistan, it had zero ratings there. In small-country Sports bestseller categories, a few subscriptions are enough to climb, which doesn't prove revenue. Dividing the US's 172 ratings by three months gives around ten a week, a very small number. On the same day, the similar Swing Coach ranked #38 on the US Sports bestseller chart and added 61 ratings in a week.

Where users come from

Almost all of it is TikTok. Searching "eagle golf app" mostly returns its promo videos, in three tiers:

Big accounts doing launch-day reviews. Besides the opener, @eiongolf (165k followers) posted "Keeping my swing dialed with Eagle" in Oct 4, 199k views and 25k likes, the biggest hit so far. @coach.mike.w (169k followers) posted "I tested this VIRAL swing analysis app." Many videos are tagged AD or #paidpartner, and one creator wrote outright, "Eagle, who I partner with."

Mid-tier creators running series. @emmabraungolf (20k followers) posted 4 videos from late September to late October, each getting 0.7–16k views. @fryarfitnessgolf runs a "ROAD TO SCRATCH" series. @physioindie runs "90 days handing my swing to AI," now at episode 6. A series keeps one creator getting exposure for several weeks.

Faceless content accounts posting daily. @sergeanteagle, called "Coach Fairway," has 237 followers and 93 posts. From late August it posted almost daily. From October it switched to a fixed template: "Scheffler / McIlroy / Fred Couples swing vs. mine with Eagle." The top single post hit 25k views (the Fred Couples one). It has few followers and its views come from the recommendation feed, which suggests a self-run account network (inferred).

Instagram Reels carry the same creator videos. Notably, a Scratch AI creator reel, a rival app in the same category, uses the caption "Eagle breaks down every detail of your golf swing…", so the two apps likely share the same creator pool.

On the store side, the app asks for a rating before the paywall, so there are many ratings and few written reviews (about a dozen in the US store). The score holds at 4.8.

Whether it bought direct ads on Meta or TikTok can't be confirmed from public sources. Creator videos may have been boosted with paid ads.

Why it didn't break out

The product isn't different. Pose tracking, frame-by-frame review, slow motion, tips and progress tracking are all offered by Sportsbox, Sparrow, GolfFix and Swing Coach. User complaints hit the core feature directly:

"Three videos, three different swings, all scored 85/100." (App Store, 11-01, title "Static Analysis")
"Can't upload videos, and live capture half the time doesn't work. The tips are mostly wrong for my problem." (10-28)
"The 3D figure in the replay is glitchy, I wonder if that affects how it finds faults." (8-10, this one still gave 4 stars)

Golfers test results on the course. When the analysis is inaccurate, the users that mass promotion brings in turn into cancellations and one-star reviews.

The space is crowded, and some have already exited. In April 2026, Sportsbox was acquired for an "eight-figure" sum by investors led by Bryson DeChambeau (SportsPro, BusinessWire). Swing Coach launched 2025 years ago with a pitch of real-time AI voice feedback, "listen right after you swing," and is currently the fastest-growing independent product. Birdies (18, 300k US ratings), a leading golf GPS app, has AI swing analysis built in. Performance Golf is backed by a course and e-commerce business. Between 2026 6 and September, several new apps launched, including Swing AI Golf and MyGolfSwing AI, all with single-digit ratings.

Eagle is a late entrant and the smallest of the group. Its whole reach comes from distribution.

What to learn from it

The product can't be copied, but the playbook can. W185 already tested it once on Strum:

  1. One pipeline reused across several verticals: 1 official accounts + 2–3 faceless accounts posting daily + 10–20 mid-tier creators running series or reviews + 1–2 accounts with 100k+ followers posting on launch day. Book creators ahead of time, and you have reach in the first week.
  2. The "star vs. me" content template: compare a pro athlete's motion with your own, riding the traffic of star names. It transfers to tennis serves, baseball swings, workout form, running gait and guitar fingering.
  3. Ask for ratings before the paywall: good ratings lift store-page conversion. Seeded positive reviews that all arrive on launch day carry platform-rule risk, so don't copy that.

The lesson from the other side is just as clear: for accuracy-driven tools, if the core recognition isn't reliable, the more you promote, the faster the bad reviews and cancellations come.

If it were you

One-line take: don't build another AI golf swing analysis app. The category has an acquired leader, a growing independent product and built-in features from big apps. Eagle itself is an example of "only mass promotion, and the product can't carry it." What's worth taking is its creator playbook.

Who it fits: a small team already running a single-feature AI app, with creator contacts and paywall experience, looking to open another vertical. Or someone who already knows a batch of creators in a sport (tennis, pickleball, baseball).

Who it doesn't fit: anyone aiming to go head-on in golf swing analysis; anyone who can code but has never worked with creators (the cost of this playbook is almost all in creators); anyone who can't build accurate motion recognition (users will test results on the course).

How to do it: pick a sport where swing analysis isn't yet dominated by a leader (tennis serves already have SwingVision, so check that first), make recognition accurate, then build a pitch you can state in one line, like Swing Coach's "listen right after you swing." Before launch, book 1–2 large-account launch-day posts and a dozen-plus mid-tier creators running 30-day or 90-day series.

How to get users: mainly TikTok and Instagram creators, plus faceless accounts posting daily with the "pro vs. me" format. Consider paid boosts only for creator videos tagged AD that are already performing well.

Timing: the playbook has no window of its own, but more and more single-feature AI apps are chasing the same sports creators. Creator pricing and audience tolerance will both get worse, so the earlier you lock in creators for a sport, the better (inferred).

Signs you've misread this: ① Eagle enters the US Sports Top Grossing top 11 in 100 or ratings gain dozens per week, which would show that mass promotion alone can work in golf too. ② Growth at products with a clear pitch, like Swing Coach, slows, which would show the category's demand is itself shrinking. ③ W185 takes the same playbook into a third or fourth vertical and builds another product at Strum's scale, which would show that "copy across verticals" is worth more than the judgment behind any single product.

Why Eagle - Swing Analysis (W185 Holdings) broke out

App Store id6789633056, Sports, launched 2026-08-04, free download + subscription (hard paywall, 1-week free trial). Research date 2026-11-06.

Bottom line

Eagle isn't really "breaking out" yet. It's W185 Holdings (their flagship is the Strum guitar app) running the same playbook they used for Strum (single-feature AI tool, hard paywall, TikTok creator UGC at scale), now applied to golf swing analysis. Three months after launch, it has 174 ratings in the US store. The Top Grossing charts where we've seen it are mostly small-country Sports category charts (Pakistan, Indonesia, Thailand, Chile), which are easy to crack; it's not in the US Sports Top Grossing top 200. Swing Coach, a direct competitor, is currently #38 on US Sports Top Grossing. The high rating count from the launch period mainly reflects a "charted in many countries" illusion, and the product itself has no clear differentiation. What's worth watching is its distribution play: paid creators plus a self-run faceless account network.

1. Current data

  • Ratings: US 172–174 (4.8 stars; iTunes lookup 2026-11-06; App Store page 174); UK 52, Canada 21, Australia 15. The 54 figure on the data card and the daily total_ratings swing between 31 and 118. That's the sum across charted countries, so don't take it at face value.
  • Rating growth: in the appstore library's app_day table, au went from 10-28 to 11-04 (up only 2), gb from 11-01 to 11-05 (up only 2), and ca from 10-29 to 11-06 (no change). Each small country's rating_velocity_7d is between 0 and 1. There are no daily records for the US (it isn't on the US charts, so there are no US rows in the library). Divide 174 ratings by 3 months and the US is roughly ten a week, a very small volume.
  • Top Grossing: appstore.app_profile(2026-11-06) shows it on Sports category charts in 23 countries (almost all Top Grossing). Its best ranks are pk #37, id #39, th #46, cl #64, nz #68, and those countries have 0–2 ratings. It ranks #200 in ca, and it's not on the us or gb charts. A handful of subscriptions can get an app onto a small country's Sports Top Grossing chart, so that doesn't indicate revenue scale.
  • Revenue estimate: AppGazers puts its revenue as of 2026-10-11 at under $5K. The same developer's portfolio estimate is $204.8K–$1.6M, mostly from Strum (https://appgazers.com/reports/developers/ios-1761597813).
  • Version: current 1.0.13 (2026-10-29), updated frequently.

Bottom line: this category is crowded. There's an acquisition exit (Sportsbox), a growing independent product (Swing Coach), and built-in features from big platforms (18Birdies). Eagle is a late entrant, and the smallest of the bunch.

3. Growth tactics (evidence)

Searching TikHub for "eagle golf app", "eagle swing analysis", and "#eagleswinganalysis" turns up almost nothing but its promo videos, which fall into three groups:

A. Paid creators (confirmed)

  • michaelalexandergolf (212k followers): 2026-08-06 posted "You need to know the root cause of your slice. Download the Eagle Swing Analysis App," 88k views; 08-20 posted another, 38k views. This was a launch-day-two push.
  • eiongolf (165k followers): 10-04 "Keeping my swing dialed with Eagle," 199k views, 25k likes. It's the biggest one we've found.
  • coach.mike.w (169K followers): 09-22 "I tested this VIRAL swing analysis app" 5K views; 09-29 one post tagged AD.
  • emmabraungolf (20k followers): 09-29, 10-08, 10-16, 10-27, posted 4 videos in a row, each with 0.7–16k views.
  • fryarfitnessgolf (20K followers, AD): started the "ROAD TO SCRATCH" series on 09-10. physioindie (AD): a serialized "Letting AI fix my golf swing for 90 days" that's up to episode 6. rosey.sera also runs a serialized progress series.
  • masondomecq (28k followers): openly says "Eagle, who I partner with." golfial is tagged #paidpartner. will.mcghie04 (30k followers, AD) got 32k views.
  • Scattered posts from small accounts: brucexgolf (2K followers, top single video 22k views), jacobo.golf, akp.golf, nickypcreates, cartgirlpov (@Eagle-GolfApp), try.build.learn, and others.
  • There are also Eagle creator reels on Instagram (several instagram.com/reel results in search).

B. Self-run faceless content accounts (likely in-house, not directly confirmed)

  • @sergeanteagle, nicknamed "Coach Fairway": 237 followers, 93 posts. From late August it posted almost daily: first "my swing flaw + Eagle showed me the problem," then from October "pro golfer's swing (Scheffler, McIlroy, Fred Couples, Nelly Korda, even Trump) vs. mine via Eagle." Top single post: 25k views (Fred Couples). Low follower count, with views coming from the recommendation feed. This is the "account network" approach common to apps like Strum.
  • Also @eagleg0lfswing (63 followers, one post with 18k views), @eaglegolfapp_ (13k followers, first posted in August), and @eagle_golfapp (official account, 07-15 product intro posts, earlier than the App Store listing).

C. In-store tactics

  • On launch day (2026-08-05), 7–8 five-star long reviews appeared ("stuck at a 15 handicap for years…", "bought the subscription on a whim…"). The timing is tightly clustered, which looks like seeded or friend-written reviews.
  • A negative review says "App asks for a review and then a mandatory subscription (1 week free trial)," which shows it asks for ratings before the paywall. That explains why there are many ratings but little written feedback (the RSS feed has only 14 reviews total), and it's where the 4.8-star rating comes from.
  • Pricing: a negative review cites $6.99/month (2026-09-15), and you have to start a trial before you can use the app.

Not found in our data: neither the metaads nor tiktokads ad library has an advertiser record for Eagle or W185. (Those libraries only track products on their watchlists, so no record doesn't mean no ads.) The creator content carries AD and #paidpartner tags, so Spark Ads (running creator videos as paid ads) is plausible, but we can't confirm it. X (x-radar) shows no discussion, and there are no Reddit threads about it.

4. The company and where the playbook came from

  • W185 Holdings LLC: registered in Wyoming, operated from Brooklyn (per Mosaic's privacy policy). It owns 8 apps: Strum guitar (2025-08, US store, 20,104 rating), Berry health (1,304), Saga stories (162), Eagle (174), plus Mosaic, Sensa, Lantern crime map and Indigo, all four with single-digit ratings.
  • Strum is its proof of concept: ScreensDesign estimates about $250K/month, appsprint about $300K/month. Users have also complained about "$7/week," "$10 a WEEK," and "dark patterns / shadow billing" (Instagram and App Store reviews).
  • Eagle's terms and privacy pages are hosted on eagle-golf.github.io, and Strum's on strum-app.github.io, using the same template. That points to a low-cost, batch approach to launching new apps.
  • One easy point to mix up: a YouTube video titled "I Built a $300K/Month App Business With UGC" (Arthur Spalanzani, 2026-07) and Starter Story's write-up on Nicole's "UGC system 200+ creators" describe the same kind of playbook. There's no evidence they're about W185. Unverified.

5. Why it's gotten any traction so far

  1. Reused resources: W185 already has the creator recruiting, management, and creative workflow Strum proved out, plus a hard paywall, so the marginal cost of a new vertical is low. A golf creator with 210k followers posted a video the day after launch, which means the distribution was lined up in advance.
  2. Golf creators and users are a good fit: golfers have high incomes and will pay to "skip a $100/hour coaching lesson." "Film it and the AI tells you what's wrong" is easy to show in short video, which makes it a natural fit for UGC.
  3. Content hooks: the self-run accounts do "pro's swing vs. mine," riding on star-name searches and recommendation traffic. Serialized creator content ("90 days handing my swing to AI," "Road to scratch") keeps exposure going.
  4. Store conversion: asking for ratings before the paywall, plus seeded five-star reviews, pushed the rating up to 4.8, which lifts store-page conversion.

6. Differentiation

Almost none. The feature list (pose tracking, frame-by-frame, slow motion, tips, progress) overlaps heavily with Sportsbox, Sparrow, GolfFix, and Swing Coach. User reviews point to several technical problems: "3D puppet misalignment," "can't upload video," "all three swing types need 85/100, it's static analysis." Its differentiation is distribution: whoever has the denser creator and content-account network wins. So the modest traction it has comes from distribution, not product. Against a rival like Swing Coach with a clear pitch (real-time voice feedback) and faster growth, Eagle's weak points are retention and reputation. The complaints center on "can't upload video" and "forced subscription," suggesting this playbook may struggle to keep users in a category like golf, where results need to be real.

7. Visibility

Not many people know about it yet. No media coverage, 0 discussions on X, no Reddit threads dedicated to it, and no public revenue figures. Third-party estimate sites (AppGazers at under $5K, Similarweb, Appfigures) have only auto-generated pages. The parent company's Strum gets far more discussion.

8. What to borrow

  • One UGC pipeline reused across multiple verticals: 1 official accounts + 2–3 faceless content accounts posting daily + 10–20 mid-size creators running serials or reviews + 1–2 large accounts with 100k+ followers for launch pushes.
  • The "celebrity or pro vs. me" content template could transfer to tennis serves (SwingVision already has that spot), baseball swings, fitness form, running gait, guitar fingering, and more.
  • Ask for ratings before the paywall, and prepare seeded reviews for launch day (watch the platform-rule risk).
  • Cautionary tale: if the core recognition isn't accurate in a results-driven tool, users acquired at scale will churn through bad reviews and cancellations. Golf already has an acquired leader and a growing independent product, so a late entrant relying on volume alone will struggle to hold ground.

9. Uncertain

  • US store real downloads and revenue: only one data point, AppGazers <$5K (as of 10-11). October creator content clearly increased; whether it scaled after that is unknown.
  • Whether the creator deals are CPM cash, per-install commission or Spark Ads boosting is unverified.
  • Whether @sergeanteagle and @eagleg0lfswing are W185 in-house is not directly confirmed; only the content and cadence match closely.
  • Who the founder behind W185 is, we could not find.
