After Hanju TV was pulled: how a drama-tracking app called Juwuba caught the people searching for shows on the App Store's Productivity category

What it is A pirated drama-tracking app disguised as a tool for finding shows and checking ratings. Listed only on the China App Store, it streams Korean, Thai, US and Japanese dramas, free for a few days before charging for membership.

Why it blew up 9 to October. K-drama TV and Thai-drama apps can't get onto the App Store, and 人人影视 came back for ten days before being pulled again. It wrote "K-drama, US drama, J-drama, Thai drama" right into its title, catching store searches for shows, then added no ads and 1 days of membership for leaving a review, pushing its rating up to 4.6.

EHow you could follow it Don't copy it. Only two legitimate lessons exist: during the weeks a legitimate product is cut off or pulled, put the demand keywords straight into your title to catch store search; and prompt for a system rating right when users have just gotten value. If you want to serve Korean and Thai drama fans, build a tool that tells people where a show can be watched legally.

E grade: a pirated library with off-app payments carries criminal risk and Apple can pull it at any time. The niche is full of copycat shells, and its tricks have no moat; a Korean drama app listed two months later is already 4 times its size. Few people know about it yet

Juwuba sits in the China App Store's Productivity category. Its store page says "global drama search engine, check ratings, cast a vote," but opening it lets you watch Korean, Thai, US and Japanese dramas directly, with membership required after a few free days. In October it suddenly had users, right when Hanju TV and the Thai drama community were unavailable on Apple. The tactics that drove its growth aren't special, but it is piracy, and a batch of the same shells gets listed and pulled every month. This piece explains how it rose, why we don't recommend following it, and which part you can legitimately learn from.

Oct 31: "Finally I can watch Korean and Thai dramas"

Oct 31, one user wrote only this in Juwuba's App Store reviews: "Finally I can watch Korean and Thai dramas." Another four-star review the same day: "No ads, and every show is available, amazing."

The "finally" has a backstory. In early September, the revived 人人影视 app was listed on the App Store and then pulled again after about ten days (reported by 界面新闻 and 蓝鲸新闻 on Sep 10). In Oct 4, a 什么值得买 article quoted a Xiaohongshu post asking for help: "Where do I watch Thai dramas on Apple? 韩剧TV won't download, and the Thai drama fans can't download it either." 11-06 Searching by ID in the China App Store, 韩小圈 (formerly 韩剧TV) can no longer be found. Korean and Thai dramas are the genres that iQiyi and Tencent Video don't fully cover, so these users have to search the App Store themselves.

Juwuba's full name is "Juwuba - Massive Korean, US, Japanese and Thai dramas," and every term those users searched is in its title.

What it is

  • On the store page: developer Parkash Vichhair, an individual account with this single app; listed 2026-08-04, category "Productivity," 4+, marked "Free," with no in-app purchases flagged. The description says "search titles, check ratings, votes from drama fans worldwide." The website juwuba.cc is a single landing page; iOS downloads directly, while Android requires "emailing customer service for a download link." The privacy policy describes the feature as "get monthly tickets daily to vote for favorite shows."
  • Once opened: a catalog with Korean, Thai, US and Japanese dramas. Reviews name titles people watched, such as "Mom Friend's Son" and "You Love Him Anyway." It's free for the first few days (a review says "no membership needed for 3 days"), after which membership is required.
  • China store only: searching the US store, Taiwan and Hong Kong stores by ID returns nothing.

In the scene this is called "disguised listing": during review it's submitted as a tool, a log, or a community, and after approval the server switches it into a streaming library.

How well it's growing

China App Store figures for 11-06: 760 ratings, averaging 4.6; latest version 1.0.4, released Sep 15, with no updates since.

(China App Store Productivity free chart rank and rating count, daily)

Over 9 days it gained 222 ratings, 7 to 36 per day, a steady pace. Its Productivity free chart rank moved sideways between 97 and 125, and it never entered the overall free chart. Reviews with written text totaled 337: 7 in August, 27 in September, and 303 in October. Almost nobody used it in the first two months; it only took off in October. Real downloads and revenue aren't visible from outside; a third-party estimate puts it at roughly 25k downloads since launch, unverified.

Why it caught these users

The name is the search term. Similar apps use codenames like "Orange Video," "Papaya Movies" or "Little Persimmon," and rely on Xiaohongshu account networks to send people over one by one. Juwuba put "Korean, US, Japanese and Thai dramas" straight into its title, so users searching by genre run into it in the store. We searched Xiaohongshu, Douyin and X for "Juwuba" and the developer name and found no content naming it; its users came mainly from store search (inferred, with fairly high confidence).

No ads. The biggest competitor at the time, "Hanju Little Drama," had reviews full of complaints about "Taobao and Meituan ads constantly jumping out." Juwuba charges only for membership and shows no ads, which in this crowd became a selling point; reviews keep praising "no ads."

Ratings were bought with perks. Review quotes: "leave a review, get one day of membership" (10-13), "leave a review for 1 days of membership, usable from the start" (10-10). Of the 337 reviews with text, 275 were 5 stars, mostly short comments like "good," "666," "very good, recommended." Written reviews make up about 44% of all ratings, a share normal apps never reach. A 4.6 rating helps both search ranking and conversion.

It sits in Productivity. That makes review easier to pass and the bar lower: roughly thirty new ratings a day is enough to hold around #100 on the Productivity free chart.

Also, the "You might also like" section on the store page is full of similar apps: Hanju Little Drama, Renren Video Spring Outing Community, Orange Video, Movie Warehouse, Papaya Movies, plus VPNs. These shells cross-promote each other.

Where the money comes from

The store page lists no in-app purchases, yet users were paying: "can't top up membership" (9-13); "paid for membership and still can't watch, feedback says no payment record, they want you to email a payment screenshot" (10-17); "why is every user different? I'm charged a membership fee, my friend downloaded and doesn't pay" (10-12). It looks like membership is sold outside Apple's payment system (QR codes, redemption cards and the like), and customer support is a single iCloud email (inferred, unverified). We don't know the price or how much it collects monthly.

Who it's competing with

This niche is crowded. 11-06 There are look-alike clones on the China App Store during the same period:

NameCategory / listingScale (China store, 11-06)Versus Juwuba
Hanju Little Drama - a one-stop Korean entertainment hubProductivity / 2026-09-293,420 ratings, about 1,600 added in 7 days, Productivity free chart #13Listed two months later, more than 4 times its size; monetized through redirect ads

Juwuba ranks mid-low in this group. Its moves (a genre in the title, no ads, reviews traded for membership) are easy to copy and have no moat: Hanxiaoju, a Korean drama app that launched in Sep 29, passed it within weeks. There are also dedicated "iOS disguised-listing movie apps" roundups still being updated, and on Xiaohongshu a batch of auto-named "小红薯XXXX" accounts post "hidden Apple apps" notes every day. Plenty of people know this playbook.

If it were you

Bottom line: don't follow it. This is a pirated library with off-platform payments, and it only earns during the months before Apple's review and the rights holders catch up. The founder of Renren Movies was sentenced in 2021 for copyright infringement, and similar apps on Apple often don't last a month before removal. One takedown and the memberships and users are gone. The category is full of shell accounts, and you won't be the biggest one.

Who it suits: nobody should copy it.

Who it doesn't suit: anyone who wants a business they can run long-term, that earns legitimately, and that carries their own name.

Two legitimate lessons:

  • Catch the "supply cut" window. When a popular product gets pulled, shut down, price-hiked, or region-locked, users search the store by feature and category name for the next few weeks. Writing that demand term plainly into your title and subtitle beats a whole paid-promotion setup built on code names and off-platform traffic. This only works if what you sell is compliant to begin with.
  • Timing the rating prompt. The moment someone has just installed the app and gotten value is when they are most likely to leave a good review. But trading membership days for reviews breaks Apple's rules (guideline 5.6.3 bans manipulating ratings). A legitimate app can only show the system rating prompt at that moment, with no reward attached.

If your goal is to serve Korean and Thai drama fans: the demand is real and nobody is serving it well. The compliant version is a finder and watch-tracker: map titles across the legal libraries of iQIYI, Tencent, Youku, Netflix, and Viki, and tell users which platform has a show and how far the episodes have been released. The "search a title, check ratings, cast a vote" shell on Juwuba's store page, built out properly, is that product. Whether it can make money is not verified; this is an inference.

What would show this read is wrong: if Juwuba, or a same-playbook shell like Hanxiaoju, stays live in the China store for more than six months with ratings still climbing, and Apple and the rights holders leave it alone. That would mean the window is open longer than it looks. It would still be piracy, so the conclusions above stand.

One line

A pirated drama-streaming app listed on the App Store China store. The store page calls it a "global drama search engine + rating vote", it sits in the Productivity category, and the developer is an individual account under a foreign-sounding name. In practice it plays Korean, Thai, US and Japanese dramas, is free for a few days, then requires a membership. Its good reviews were bought with "comment for 1 days of membership". It took off in October 2026, right after Hanju TV and Thai Drama Circle became unavailable on iOS in China and Renren Movies came back for ten days in September before being pulled again. People who watch Korean and Thai dramas search the App Store for apps that work, and this one's name literally says "Korean, US, Japanese and Thai dramas", which is how it caught them.

9 days added 222 ratings, 7 to 36 per day, very steady. The efficiency Top Free chart stayed between 97 and 125 and never entered the overall Top Free chart. The recall card says it "rose from #120 to #111", which is inaccurate: #111 was the rank captured when the store page was scraped, and the daily ranks in the DB first climbed to 97 then fell back to 120. Overall it's flat.

Reviews by month (Apple review RSS, 337 text reviews total, which is the full set): 2026-08 has 7, 09 has 27, and October has 303. It took off in October, and almost nobody used it in the first two months.

2. Competitors: who else is doing this

The China App Store has long had a set of "disguised-listing" drama apps: at review they present as tools, trackers, or communities, then the server switches them to a streaming library after approval. Most sit under individual developer accounts with Chinese names, in categories like Productivity, Utilities, Lifestyle, and Entertainment. Below are the peers the appstore DB shows around 2026-11-06:

4. Why it took off

  1. The demand was abandoned by the official channels. 2026 from 9 to October, Renren Video was revived and then pulled again after 10 days (reported by The Paper and Lanjing News in Sep 10), while Hanxiao Circle (formerly Hanju TV) and Thai Drama Circle became unavailable on China-store iOS (Smzdm 10-04; Apple's lookup no longer finds Hanxiao Circle). Korean and Thai dramas are genres that iQiyi and Tencent don't fully cover, so these users had to hunt on the App Store themselves.
  2. The name is written right into the demand. Most competitors use code-word names like "Orange" or "Papaya" and rely on Xiaohongshu to bring users in. Juwuba's title is literally "Korean, American, Japanese, and Thai dramas", so users can find it just by searching the genre in the store. The titles reviewers name are all Korean or Thai dramas: "You Loved Him Anyway", "My Friend's Mother's Son", Thai dramas.
  3. No ads, a free window first, then membership. Reviews repeatedly mention "no ads", "no membership needed for 3 days", and "get 1 days of membership for a review". Hanxiao Juju, the biggest rival at the same time, was flooded with complaints about redirect ads, so Juwuba's experience became its selling point.
  4. The good reviews are bought. Trading reviews for 1 days of membership pushed its review count to 303 in October, with the average held at 4.6. A high rating gives it an edge in search ranking and conversion.
  5. Placing it in the "Productivity" category avoids review and still gets it onto a category chart. It sits around #100 on the Productivity free chart, and about 30 new ratings a day is enough. The bar is low, but the category chart doesn't give it much extra exposure either.

5. Differentiation

There's no real product differentiation: the library, membership, and disguise tricks are all industry templates. Compared with peers, it differs in three ways:

  • The title names the genre outright, capturing search traffic without relying on code names or Xiaohongshu;
  • No ads, membership only;
  • Trades membership for good reviews to inflate ratings.

The first two let it catch some search users after Hanju TV and Thai Drama Circle went dark, and the third makes its rating look good. None of it is a moat, though: Hanxiao Juju launched in Sep 29 and is already 4 times its size.

6. How the money comes back

The store page doesn't list in-app purchases. Reviews say: "Can't top up membership" (9-13), "Paid for membership and still can't watch; support says they can't see the payment record and wants my email to send a payment screenshot" (10-17), "Why is it different for each user? I have to pay for membership, my friend downloaded it and doesn't" (10-12). From this, membership most likely runs through payment outside Apple (QR codes, card codes, and the like); this is an inference, not verified. The recall card says it monetizes "via IAP", which doesn't match the store page. Support is a single iCloud email address.

7. How many people know about it

Few people know about it yet. No media coverage, no public revenue, 0 posts on x-radar, and no Xiaohongshu or Douyin content naming it. But the category itself (disguised iOS drama streaming) is a public gray-market play: sites like eqishare.com keep updating "iOS disguised-listing viewing app roundups", and Xiaohongshu has many matrix accounts, so plenty of players are involved.

8. Copycats

Strictly speaking, nobody is copying it, but there are disguised look-alikes with the same demand and the same playbook from the same period: Hanxiao Juju (launched Sep 29, productivity category, already far ahead of it), HanquanTV, and Hanju Circle (9 to October, Tools / Lifestyle category).

9. What others can borrow

  • When official platforms drop or pull a service, users still search the store by genre and brand. Writing the demand keyword straight into the title is simpler than relying on off-platform traffic with code-name branding (Lok L0ck riding Loklok's name follows the same logic).
  • Offer a free window first, then trade reviews for membership days: this lifts ratings and first-purchase conversion at the same time.
  • No ads and membership-only is itself a selling point in a peer group full of ads.
  • Caution: this whole model is pirated content, and off-platform payment also breaks Apple's rules. The only parts that can be borrowed compliantly are "catch the window after a takedown" and "timing of rating incentives".

10. Still unclear

  • Real download and revenue figures. The lifetime estimate of 25K downloads from mwm.ai comes from the recall card and is unverified.
  • How membership is actually sold (in-app purchase or off-platform) and at what price.
  • Whether Xiaohongshu or private channels are promoting it (possibly under code names we didn't find).
  • Whether it's the same team behind Hanxiao Juju, Orange Video, and others.
  • When Apple will pull it: similar apps have short lives, Renren Video lasted 10 days, and Hanxiao Circle is already gone.
