Beige living room swapped for burgundy curtains: Solavie got 1.78M views from two images, but only 171 paying users
What it is An iPhone app where you photograph your own room, and AI keeps the walls, windows and floor while changing soft furnishings like sofas, rugs and curtains, then returns a redesigned image. It's sold as a weekly subscription.
Why it took off The TikTok brand account posts only two images: first the finished colorful room, then the original beige rental. It hits the feeling that people are tired of beige and want color and pattern. From 9 to October, 4 posts passed 500k views, and the downloads and small-country category rankings came from these few posts.
CHow you could follow Don't build another AI room redesign app. Take the "then vs. now" two-image carousel format to other products, or do what it hasn't done well: tell users where the furniture in the picture can be bought, earn affiliate commissions from shopping links, and do it in German, French, Italian and Spanish.

Solavie is an iPhone app where you photograph a room and AI redoes the soft furnishings. It launched in late July and was built by a one-person company. Its TikTok account uses a "then vs. now" two-image carousel, and from 9 to October it posted 4 videos with over 500k views each. The app sits on the Graphics & Design category charts in 20 to 40-plus countries every day. But its own website says it has 171 paying users as of October, and it has only 16 to 24 global ratings. The content approach works and can be copied. The product and business haven't proven themselves yet, and the category is already crowded.
A "how it's going vs how it started" post
In Oct 2026 12, the TikTok account @solavieapp posted a two-image carousel. The first slide reads "how it's going vs how it started": a pink velvet sofa, two zebra-print accent chairs, burgundy floor-to-ceiling curtains, and a purple-pink tassel chandelier, with a portrait of a woman in a cowboy hat on the wall. The second slide shows the same living room: gray-white fabric sofa, light rug, white walls, and two botanical prints, with the caption "thanks to solavie🤍". The soundtrack is "Ayo Technology" by 50 Cent.
Putting the redesign first and the original second is deliberate. By 11-06, this post had 1.78M views, 159k likes and 32k saves (TikTok, 11-06). The second most-liked comment (4,841 likes) says "I read it backwards, I thought the second picture was the redesign," followed by "I almost panicked" and "you scared me." The comments are arguing about taste: "finally someone uses color again," while others say "you killed the soul of it."
The most-liked comment (7,132 likes) points out a flaw: "the wall to the right of the door in the 'after' suddenly got wide enough to fit a whole sideboard." A German user also asked, "did the wall next to the back door get longer?" The app advertises that "walls, windows and floors stay the same," but the AI quietly changed the room's structure, and viewers spotted it at a glance.
The September 25 post uses the same formula: the top reads "how it's going," showing a living room with a green velvet sofa, burgundy accent chair, burgundy curtains and tassel chandelier. The second slide, "how it started," is a beige-sofa, white-rug rental captioned "I did it with solavie." It reached 1.19M views. The most-liked comment (5,080 likes) says "much better, cozier," and the second (2,144 likes) says "so now everyone's color scheme is green with burgundy."
What it is
You photograph a room (stand at the door and capture the whole space) and answer a few questions: which room, what feeling you want, and which furniture to keep. The AI produces a redesign. You can then change one thing with a sentence, like "swap in a brown sofa" or "make the walls warmer." You can also drop a Pinterest image into your own room, or photograph a rug you saw in a store, enter its dimensions, and preview it in your space. The store page lists 40 styles: Warm Minimal, Japandi, Old Money, Chic Parisian, Coastal Hamptons, and more. The app includes a library of 3,423 pieces of furniture and decor. Images are generated with Google Gemini, and planning and checking use Claude (per the website).
Pricing: the first design is free, then it's paid. Weekly $9.99, monthly $29.99, yearly $49.99–59.99, plus credit packs: 150 credits for $5.99 and 500 credits for $16.99. It supports English, French and German, and the app name changes by store: "Room Makeover AI" in the US, "Déco Intérieure IA" in France, and "Interior AI Makeover" elsewhere. This is keyword targeting by region.
The developer, Designpulse LLC, is registered in Wyoming, USA, and this is the only app under its name. The TikTok posts are tagged to Hungary, the "before" photo has European-standard outlets, and the people behind it are most likely in Europe (inference).
Where users come from: a faceless image-post account
Almost entirely TikTok. @solavieapp's first post went up in July 11, more than two weeks before the app launched, to warm up the account. By 11-06 it had 9,244 followers and 165 videos, with 510k likes in total, and the countable video views add up to about 7.3M (the website says "10M+," which can't be verified). It posts 30 to 50 times a month.
The format is almost always the same: a two-image carousel with a trending song. The post captions are only hashtags (#interiordesign #homeinspo #pinterestroom) and never mention the app. The app name only appears in the small line of text on the image, and the profile bio reads "Try it 👇🏻 or Search Solavie on the App Store."
The hits cluster from late September to mid October:
| Posted | Views (11-06) | Item |
|---|---|---|
| 10-12 | 1.78M | Beige living room → pink sofa, zebra chairs, burgundy curtains |
| 09-25 | 1.19M | Beige living room → green velvet sofa, burgundy accent chair |
| 10-11 | 960k | Same formula |
| 10-04 | 510k | Same formula |
| Late September to October | 6 posts at 21–270k each | Same formula, plus a six-image "animal print color scheme" post |
Every post hits the same feeling: people are tired of beige, white, "soulless" rentals and want color, pattern and vintage pieces. A Spanish comment says "I'm also sick of white and beige houses," and an English one reads "thank god people are using color again." The website turned these hits into a section, "every room built around one print": tassels, leopard, plum, cow print, zebra, checkerboard, and tapping any one shows every piece of furniture in that room.
Channels outside TikTok are tiny: a few Pinterest pins, 8 Instagram followers, and a web version. No TikTok ad spend has been found, and whether it advertises on Meta or Google can't be seen (unverified). No press coverage, and nobody has discussed it on X.
Its charts fit this account too. Since the posts are pushed heavily to European users, the rankings concentrate in small Northern and Central European countries (inference). From 10-28 to 11-06, it appeared every day on the Graphics & Design category charts in 24 to 44 stores. Its best rank was #1 Top Grossing in Tunisia (11-02), #7 in Luxembourg, and #15 in Slovenia. In the big markets, its best was #66 on the France Top Free chart, #79 Top Grossing in Germany, and #128 Top Grossing in the UK; it has never charted in the US store (App Store charts). Category charts in small countries have a low bar, so a few subscriptions can push an app to the top. "Charting in 40 countries" sounds impressive but doesn't mean high download volume.
Where the money comes from: lots of views, few payers
The website publishes its own numbers: as of October it had 171 paying members. Among paying members, 50% had changed a rug with a single sentence, 39% a light, 37% a sofa, 25% curtains, and 17% wall color; over a third had used "photograph real items to test them." Around Oct 9, it described itself as "10M+ views and 12k+ room designs." By this measure, roughly one in a thousand views turns into a design, and about 1.4% of designs convert to payment. 11-06 However, the counter on the website's homepage shows much smaller numbers, which don't match up. Treat them only as an order-of-magnitude reference.
171 paying users, weekly, monthly and yearly plans mixed together. Roughly a few thousand USD a month (estimate, no public revenue to check). Global ratings 16 to 24; 10 new ratings a day over the last 0 to 2 days. US store 4 ratings, average 3.0 stars; UK store 8 ratings, 4.0 stars (App Store, 11-06).
Back in October, its payment flow also had a meltdown. 10-28 A one-star review in the US store said a full-screen subscription popup blocked everything, the credits they bought wouldn't work, and their email to support bounced back. 10-27 Another one-star review from Australia read: "paid, then got a timeout error for the whole generation... complete scam." The developer 11-02 shipped 1.2.5 to fix it, but whether conversion recovered afterward isn't visible from the outside.
One more signal worth noting. In the comments on the hit posts, the most common questions were "where did you buy that ceiling lamp?", "these colors are impossible to find on Amazon", and "I don't want to buy new furniture, where do I start?" The viewers want to "buy the look," not necessarily "see another picture."
Who it's competing with
| Product | Scale (App Store rating count) | vs. Solavie |
|---|---|---|
| Home AI(HUBX) | US store about 160k, charted in 86 stores, best overall Top Grossing rank #34 | Built by a big paid-acquisition operation; one-tap style-template makeovers |
| AI Home Design: Interior DecAI | About 35k | Style-template image generation |
| Arch - AI Home Design(AppNation) | About 24k, charted in 105 stores | Ad-buying machine, covers interiors, facades and gardens |
| Remodel AI | About 15k | Also keeps the structure, but leans toward hard renovation; often recommended on Reddit |
| Planner 5D etc. | 4–50k | You have to draw the floor plan and build a 3D model, not just snap a photo and get an instant result |
| Roomly, SnapHome, Homely AI, Maison AI | 160–260 each | Launched in the same period this year, about 10× Solavie's rating count, also riding small-country category charts |
| Interior Design Clinic | 129 | An app built by a home-decor creator, bringing their own audience |
| ChatGPT, Gemini, Canva | Free | Upload a photo and say "make this XX style" and you get an image |
In the past 2026 years, roughly 151 newly listed US-store apps have "interior," "room design," "home design" or "room makeover" in their names. "Photo-to-redesign" is a feature everyone has, and general models can do it directly; on Reddit people already say "ChatGPT is enough." What Solavie really does differently is the content: not "AI helps you decorate" but "a beige rental turned into a Pinterest room with prints and color," aimed at young women scrolling home inspiration on TikTok, not homeowners who need renovations. I haven't seen anyone else copy that content formula specifically.
If it were you
Verdict: C. There's something to learn, but building an "AI room makeover" app to copy it isn't worth it. What's worth learning is its content formula, not the product. The category already has hundreds of similar apps and several paid-acquisition giants, and ChatGPT does it for free. Even with several million views of its own, Solavie has only 171 paying users to show for it.
Who it suits: a small team of 1 to 2 people who can make images every day and have a feel for a particular home-decor aesthetic, ideally with an existing product to promote, who need a face-free content format they can post daily.
Who it doesn't suit: anyone hoping to earn subscription money from an "AI interior design app" alone; anyone unwilling to create content and relying on organic store traffic; anyone targeting the big English-speaking US market, which belongs to Home AI and Arch-style paid-acquisition companies.
How to do it: three paths, ranked by how worth it they are.
- One: use this "then vs. before" two-image carousel to promote other things: balconies, gardens, wardrobes, wedding decor, nails, hair color. As long as AI can produce an "after" people want to save.
- Two: do the half it hasn't done well. The comments ask "where do I buy it," so make the furniture in each makeover real, buyable items, with links to IKEA, Amazon or local furniture stores, earning commission rather than charging a subscription. Or build a web version, generate free and then sell credits (inference: more likely than a $9.99 weekly subscription to get TikTok scrollers to pay).
- Three: switch languages. German, French, Italian or Polish home accounts, using houses locals recognize (European apartments, rental flats) and furniture they can actually buy locally.
Technically, do one step more than it does: after generating, check whether walls, doors and windows stayed where they were. The top comment on its best post is about exactly that flaw.
How to get users: open a brand account and post for two or three weeks before launch. Each post has only two images: the finished makeover captioned "how it's going," and the plain rental before the change captioned "how it started," with a line of small text naming the product. Captions carry only hashtags; the profile says "search XX in the store." Build topics around one specific print or color scheme (zebra, leopard, green with burgundy, tassel lamps) as a series, rather than vaguely saying "AI redoes your room." Pull the viral rooms back to the website and make them a "hit rooms" section.
When to start, before: get the account warmed up before late December. January is when people do "new year, new home" and reshuffle soft furnishings (inference), and the "back from beige to color" trend has lasted a year or two; once it passes, all that's left is a format people are tired of.
Signs you've misjudged it: ① more than 60 posts in a row without a single one passing 100k views; ② a post goes viral, but the people who visit the profile and search the store are still only in the thousandths, meaning this content earns saves, not downloads; ③ ChatGPT or Gemini launches a dedicated "redo my room" entry point and it starts getting posted everywhere on TikTok, at which point the tool layer has no value left; ④ the other way round: if Solavie's paid web members grow past 500 by January, it shows the path converts, and the rating should be raised.

One line
Solavie is an iPhone app where you take a photo of your own room and the AI keeps the walls, windows and floor and swaps only the soft furnishings (Gemini generates the images, Claude helps with planning and checking). Its growth has come almost entirely from a face-free TikTok photo-carousel account (@solavieapp) posting before-and-after "Pinterest-style room" makeovers. The route has built volume (roughly 7.3M to 10M+ views), but monetization is weak: as of October it had only 171 paying users and 16–24 global ratings. So it has "worked" only to a modest degree: the distribution playbook works, but the product and scale haven't yet.
1. Basic data
- Developer Designpulse LLC (Wyoming LLC, source solavie.design/terms). The account also had another app, SayNote: AI Voice to Text, now removed; an old cached Apple developer page still lists it (Jina search results). Solavie is the only app left.
- First released 2026-07-27, current version 1.2.5 (2026-11-02). Languages EN / FR / DE (iTunes lookup).
- The name is localized by store (ASO): US store "Solavie: Room Makeover AI," French store "Solavie: Déco Intérieure IA," other stores "Solavie: Interior AI Makeover." The multiple name changes seen in the recall are the same app using different names in different stores. Also, it didn't launch in February; it launched Jul 27.
- Pricing: $9.99 weekly / $29.99 monthly / $49.99–59.99 yearly, plus credit packs, 150 credits for $5.99 and 500 credits for $16.99 (recall cards and App Store description). The first design is free; after that it's paid.
- Category Graphics & Design (6027). All its charted positions are in this category; it has never charted overall.
Charts and ratings (appstore database, 2026-10-28 to 11-06)
- Appeared on category charts in 24–44 stores per day. Best ranks:
- Graphics & Design Top Grossing #1 in Tunisia (11-02)
- Top Grossing #7 in Luxembourg, #15 in Slovenia, #16 in Croatia, #18 in Iceland, #25 in Sweden, #27 in Austria
- Free chart: #25 in Finland, #26 in Norway, #27 in Iceland
- Main markets: France Top Free best #66 / Top Grossing #89, Germany Top Free #91 / Top Grossing #79, UK Top Free #158 / Top Grossing #128. The US store has no charting records in our database.
- Ratings are tiny: 16–24 total across all stores (daily_all_countries). UK 8, Australia 4, US 4 (lookup, avg 3.0), Greece 2, with 0–2 new ratings a day over 10 days.
- Read: small-country Graphics & Design category charts have a very low bar, so a few subscriptions can push an app into the Top Grossing ranks. "Charted in 40 countries" does not mean volume. The growth in rating count is a proxy for downloads, and it is very small.
1-star reviews (Apple review RSS)
- US, 2026-10-28,1 stars: the subscription full-screen popup blocks use of the app, bought credits don't work, and the support email bounces.
- Australia, 2026-10-27,1 stars: "After paying, generation times out with an error... complete scam."
- This shows a payment-flow incident in late October. The recall card says the developer reply fixed it; the release notes of the 11-02 update (1.2.5) mention privacy prompts and community changes.
2. Where users came from (growth tactics)
TikTok owned account: confirmed, main channel
- @solavieapp (TikHub, 2026-11-06): 9,244 followers, 510k total likes, 165 posts. We pulled 155 posts, about 7.3M views in total. The website says "10M+ views", but the basis is a snapshot from 10-09, which may include deleted posts or another account. Not verified.
- Posting cadence: July 28 posts, August 50, September 29, October 45. The first post went up on 2026-07-11, half a month before the app launched, so they warmed up the account first.
- Format: almost all photo carousels (aweme_type 150,2–5 images) set to trending BGM. Captions are only hashtags (#interiordesign #homeinspo #pinterestroom) with no app mention; the bio reads "Try it 👇🏻 or Search Solavie on the App Store". This is the classic playbook: faceless photo account with a link in bio.
- The hits cluster from late September to October:
- 09-25 post with 1.19M views / 119k likes
- 10-12 post with 1.78M views / 159k likes
- 10-11 one video with 960k views
- 10-04 one video with 510k views
- 6 more posts with 21–270k views
- The website turns these into "Our viral rooms / Pick a print" sections: each viral room is built around one print (leopard, animal prints, color palettes). The content formula is "one print → one mood board → one room."
- The region field on the posts is HU (Hungary). The poster is likely in Europe, and TikTok recommendation traffic skews European, which fits the charts clustering in small Northern and Central European countries (inference).
Other owned channels: confirmed, very small volume
- Pinterest: several pins titled "Solavie: Redesign any room from one photo" (Brave search found pinterest pages in cl / tr / sk / kr / es).
- Instagram @solavieapp has only 8 followers and 20 posts. There is also a YouTube channel and the web app at app.solavie.design.
- A post on r/SideProject, "I made an interior design app where you can decorate your room with real …", may be Solavie; Reddit 403 could not be read, so unverified.
Paid acquisition: none found
- TikTok Ads library: Solavie is on the tracking list, status no_ads.
- Neither the Meta Ads nor the Google Ads library has an advertiser record for it. Not being on the list doesn't mean they didn't spend.
- There is a Facebook video page for "AI home design" (page 61580110812830). Whether it runs ads for Solavie is unverified.
Media, X, big accounts: none
- x-radar searched "solavie" over 120 days and found 0 posts.
- Online there are only auto-generated pages from app data sites (appinsider, mwm.ai, chartoo); appinsider estimates "1k+" installs. No media coverage, no TrustMRR listing, and the founders haven't posted their revenue.
3. Competitors (appstore library app_profile, highest rating count per store)
The category is extremely crowded. Just counting apps first released in 2026 with interior / room design / home design / room makeover in their US store names, there are 151 (appstore library app + app_name).
| Product | Platform | Launched | Scale | How Solavie differs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Home AI(HUBX) | iOS | 2024-04 | US store 160k ratings, charting in 86 stores, best overall Top Grossing rank 34 | A toolkit matrix from a big acquisition-driven company; one-tap style templates for images. It does not emphasize "keep the furniture, edit item by item." |
| Arch - AI Home Design(AppNation) | iOS | 2023-05 | 24k ratings, 105 stores | A Turkish paid-acquisition content factory covering interiors, facades, and gardens |
| Planner 5D / Room Planner(Home Planner AI) | iOS / Android / web | 2013 / 2016 | 4–50k ratings | Started as 3D floor-plan planning, added AI later. Requires modeling; not instant from a photo. |
| AI Home Design: Interior DecAI | iOS | 2024-05 | 35k ratings | Style-template image generation |
| Remodel AI(Reimage AI) | iOS / web | 2023-04 | 15k ratings | Focuses on hard-surface renovation while keeping the structure; often recommended in Reddit reviews |
| AI Remodel(PulseApps OÜ) | iOS | 2024-05 | 26k ratings | Template-based image generation of the same type |
| Roomly / SnapHome / Homely AI / Maison AI | iOS | Launched within 2026 years | 160–260 ratings, charted in 42–94 stores | A newcomer in the same period with about 10 times Solavie's rating count, also riding small-country category charts |
| Interior Design Clinic (Affinity Labs, creator @thebowenhome) | iOS | 2026-03 | 129 rating | A home-design creator who brings their own audience to the app, using the same TikTok / IG content playbook |
| Canva AI Interior Styler, ChatGPT / Gemini editing images directly | Big-company features | 2024–2026 | Huge | Free and general-purpose; on Reddit some say "ChatGPT is enough" |
| REimagineHome, Spacely, Homevisualizer, and others | Web | 2023– | Often listed in review articles | Aimed at real estate agents and virtual staging |
4. Differentiation
Solavie's claimed differentiators are these:
- Keeps the real walls, windows, and floors, and lets you choose keep / swap / remove for each piece of furniture.
- Applies a Pinterest-saved pin to your own room.
- Change one thing with one sentence. According to the website, among paying users, 50% changed the rug, 39% the lights, and 37% the sofa.
- Upload real furniture you see in a store (with dimensions) to try it in place. The website says over a third of paying users have used this.
- 3,423 self-built furniture and decor items, plus Shop the look.
Taken one by one, none of these is unique: Remodel AI and Home AI also say "keep the structure," and ChatGPT / Gemini can already make local edits. What is actually distinctive is the content and aesthetic positioning: "Pinterest rooms," "a room built around one print," aimed at young women scrolling home inspiration on TikTok rather than homeowners planning renovations. This positioning is why its content can go viral. But the positioning only brought views, not scalable conversion: 10M views → 12k room designs → 171 paying users, with only 16–24 ratings. By the website's numbers, views-to-designs conversion is about 0.1%, and designs-to-paying about 1.4%. Add the 1-star reviews about payment failures in late October, and the product and payment flow are still dragging it down.
5. Why it (barely) made it
- The TikTok photo-carousel formula found something that works: 9–October produced 4 posts with over 500k views, and they drove most of the reach and downloads. Evidence: TikHub post data, and the website's "9 posts that went viral."
- The low bar of small-country charts amplified its presence: in Graphics & Design categories in Tunisia, Luxembourg, Slovenia and similar stores, a few subscriptions were enough to reach the top 10 Top Grossing. No evidence of paid chart-pushing was found.
- Weekly subscription at $9.99 plus credit packs, high value per paying user: 171 paying users can still support thousands of dollars in monthly revenue. This is a rough estimate from a mix of weekly, monthly and annual subscriptions; not verified.
- A solo company turning model capability straight into a product: Gemini for image generation, Claude for planning. Low cost, fast iteration, with the 10 and 1.2.4 versions shipped within 1.2.5 days.
6. Visibility and copycats
- Visibility: almost nobody knows about it yet. No press, no X discussion, no public revenue, and only 8 followers on Instagram. The only public business number is what its own site says: "171 paying members".
- Copycats: the category is already crowded (2026 new similar apps this year, 151 total), but I haven't seen anyone copy its "print / Pinterest room" content approach. Interior Design Clinic is a parallel creator route, not a copy.
7. Takeaways
- Warm up the account first: start posting content 2 weeks before launch.
- Faceless photo carousels: captions only carry tags, the profile sends people to search the store; hit posts get pulled back onto the site as a "hit rooms" section and social proof.
- Build the content series around one concrete aesthetic hook (one print, one Pinterest style), not generic "AI redecorates your room".
- Publish the app's own user behavior data on the site (who changed what, how many people tried the physical placement) as conversion material.
- Localize the name per store to grab keywords; pick a low-competition category like Graphics & Design to get chart spots in small-country stores.
8. Uncertain
- The "10M+ plays" basis (we only count about 7.3M).
- The paying users' plan mix and real monthly revenue.
