"Starts at $20, then $43.50 a month": LearnFolio is Finelo with a new skin

What it is An app that teaches investing to beginners: short lessons, quizzes, a virtual paper-trading account, and AI explanations. The real product being sold is the 4-week auto-renewing subscription behind the web "28-day AI Trader Challenge."

Why it's getting attention It hasn't really taken off yet. It's spending money to test: Meta, Google, and AppLovin ads send people to a web quiz, a countdown and discount code push them to pay, and an in-app rating prompt quickly collected 130 ratings averaging 4.7 stars in the US store. The whole playbook copies Finelo, which has already been proven.

CHow to play it Stop making English trading-challenge apps; if you already have a paid-acquisition team running web2app funnels, port the funnel to languages Finelo hasn't localized, or run the same funnel on a different category.

Grade C: this slot already has the original Finelo (1.56M installs on Google Play), a big studio (Codeway), and a string of clones. LearnFolio itself hasn't proven it works. The funnel approach is worth studying, but copying it into this category isn't worth it, and the refund, bad-review, and financial-ad review risks are high. Few people know about it yet

LearnFolio is an app that teaches investing to beginners. With 130 US ratings averaging 4.7 stars, it looks like a newly emerging educational product. Look closer and it's really a web-based paid acquisition funnel: ads take people to a quiz on the web, subscription fees are collected on the web, and the app only delivers the product. The quiz, the paywall, and the pricing nearly copy Finelo's "28-day trading challenge" almost line for line, and the code was adapted from a weight-loss funnel. It's small right now. What's worth watching is the playbook itself: how fast it can be copied, and how many times it already has been.

A one-star review

On Oct 14, someone left a 1-star review of LearnFolio in the US App Store, titled: "Start with $20, but then charges $43.50 per month." In the body, they did the math: at 1% monthly returns, you'd have to invest $4,350 to earn back the $43.50 monthly subscription fee, yet the app tells you "$20 is enough to start." "AI investing may really work, but marketing this misleadingly makes the whole thing look suspicious."

This is one of only 4 written reviews LearnFolio has in the US store. The other 3 are 4 to 5 stars, titled "Investing / Growing", "Stepping", and "Learning." The longest one says, "So far it's been very comfortable to read, looking forward to more." Only 4 of the 130 ratings came with written reviews, so most of the ratings likely came from the in-app rating prompt (inferred).

This negative review gets right how it makes money: it pulls people in with a very low barrier, then collects through auto-renewal.

What it is

On the store page, LearnFolio: Investing is a straightforward educational app: short lessons on stocks, ETFs, and crypto, with small quizzes, a paper-trading account with virtual money, AI explanations, and check-ins. The description explicitly says "no real-money trading." The iOS version launched in Jul 22, categorized under Education and free to download. The Android version launched in Sep 8, under the developer name "Ai LearnFolio Labs."

The landing page the ads send people to says something different. The top of quiz.learnfolioai.com reads "100M+ Users Choose," "4.8 Score Rated on Trustpilot," and "28-DAY TRADING CHALLENGE," and the first question asks, "Have you ever traded?" An app that launched in July claiming "100M users" is clearly a template leftover. After the quiz comes the paywall: the headline "Your personal 28-day AI Trader challenge," the subhead "Become a confident trader." There's a 10-minute countdown reading "Welcome discount: 50%," and it generates a personal discount code tied to the date, such as user_06nov2026_rEay. Trying to close the page triggers a retention popup: "GET 60% DISCOUNT," with the pitch that it helps you "grow wealth." Payment runs through Stripe and PayPal, and the terms say it "auto-renews every 4 weeks." (Paywall, opened 11-06)

The store page is written to pass Apple review; the ads and web pages are written to convert aggressively. Two sets of copy, each doing its own job.

Where the money comes from

The money isn't in the App Store, it's on the web. Taking payment on the web means skipping Apple's 30% cut.

Prices come from the server, so the full price list can't be captured from the page. Two points can be matched: Finelo's publicly listed pricing was roughly $20 for the first 4 weeks, then about $43.50 every 4 weeks; the negative review quoted exactly $43.50 per month. So LearnFolio most likely uses the same pricing (inferred). As for "starts at $20," the reviewer read it as "invest $20 to start," while Finelo's wording is "first subscription $19.99." Either way, the copy works the same: make the entry barrier look low.

At this price, a web paying customer brings in $20 on the first order, and if they renew one or two periods, the acquisition cost is recovered (inferred). Refunds and bad reviews are the cost of this business. Another clone using the same template, TradeSmart, has 17,058 installs on Google Play with a rating of only 1.94.

The app also has Apple in-app purchases (Google Play price $9.99–39.99), and it ranks #31, #35, and #39 on the education grossing charts in Bahrain, Barbados, and Botswana. But those storefronts are so low-barrier that a 0 rating is enough to chart, so these rankings only show a trickle of in-app purchases, not revenue at scale.

Where users come from

It's all paid acquisition. The tracking code on the funnel pages makes this clear (see 11-06):

  • Meta: One active Facebook pixel, plus an old one that's commented out. This suggests ads have been changed at least once.
  • Google: Google Ads conversion tags and two GA4 properties. Searching Google also turns up Play links with utm_term=learnfolio investing app, indicating it's buying traffic on its own brand term.
  • AppLovin: Every step of the quiz and paywall reports events to AppLovin's Axon pixel (page view, begin checkout, add to cart). That means it buys traffic through in-game ads on AppLovin and sends mobile gamers to the web quiz. This is a newer channel alongside Meta.

Social and word-of-mouth channels are empty: searching learnfolio on TikTok turns up no relevant videos, no one has mentioned it on X in the last 90 days, and there's no press coverage. It doesn't need them.

Scale: 130 US ratings, 20 in the UK, 6 in Australia, and 1 in Canada (iTunes, 11-06). Google Play shows 1,218 installs, 32 ratings, and a 3.94 rating, and the install count went up 42 times between 11-05 and 11-06. In this kind of funnel, people who install the app have usually already paid on the web, so a rough estimate from rating counts puts US iOS installs at several thousand to just over ten thousand (estimate, order of magnitude only).

Who made it

The developer account is registered to a Cayman company called CYBER CARRIER CAPITAL LIMITED. That company's website describes itself as "digital infrastructure capital" and has no connection to the app. The operator named in the web terms and at the bottom of the paywall is APPCENTURY LIMITED. The App Store has an "AppCentury Apps" developer that publishes cleaning, translation, and face-swap utility apps, and it's probably the same company (unverified). Financial apps often publish under a separate entity, usually for licensing and risk isolation (inferred).

The front-end code has Chinese comments: "cloud control config," "report: daily active," "is member, 1 is 0 no." The Apple sign-in Service ID is still named com.healthy.lightfit.web, the user fields still include height, weight, and target weight, and the API runs on a cardio. subdomain. The official homepage even has a leftover line: "Joint-friendly options · No equipment needed." The paywall file's timestamp is September 2025, almost a year before the app launched.

This is a Chinese paid acquisition studio: the same quiz and paywall were first used to sell a fitness plan, then reskinned to sell an investing course.

Who it's competing with

LearnFolio is itself a copycat. The people in this slot are more numerous and bigger than it is:

(Google Play and App Store data, 11-06)

Real investing knowledge is free everywhere. What this type of app sells isn't the content. It sells the "28-day challenge" packaging, a countdown timer, and a discount code. The model has also been publicly dissected: someone on LinkedIn wrote up Finelo's funnel, saying it has over 1.5M users and multi-million-dollar monthly revenue, with roughly 2.45M paid and display visits per month to one funnel, and 29 screens from the first screen to the paywall. Someone on Reddit also discussed its 28-day challenge ads specifically.

What you can learn

  • The funnel is an asset that transfers across categories. The same quiz, paywall, tracking, remote config, and payment code can go from weight loss to investing with just new questions and copy. A team that has this setup pays little to test each new category.
  • Web checkout plus app delivery. This avoids the 30% store commission, and the store listing can be written conservatively.
  • AppLovin Axon can drive traffic to web subscriptions. Worth testing for anyone who doesn't want to rely only on Meta.
  • Copy a proven big account, but in another language. Korea's Investing101 did exactly this.

If it were you

C: Copy the funnel, not the category. The "28-day trading challenge" slot already has the original Finelo, the big studio Codeway, and a string of clones. LearnFolio itself is only testing with small budgets and hasn't proven it works.

Who it's for: teams that already have a working web2app funnel (quiz, paywall, web checkout, Meta or AppLovin ads), that know their cost to acquire each paying user, and that want to try another category reskin. Ideally in a native language Finelo and Codeway haven't seriously localized.

Who it's not for: indie devs who want to build a genuinely useful investing learning app and get users through store search or word of mouth (the content is free everywhere, so this category has no organic traffic); anyone who hasn't run paid ads; anyone who can't handle refunds, chargebacks, and one-star reviews (first-period discounts plus auto-renewal means bad reviews come with the territory).

How to do it: Don't do English. Pick a language with strong trading interest that Finelo hasn't localized (Japanese, German, Portuguese, Turkish, etc. You'll need to count active ads in the Meta ad library first). Rewrite the quiz, paywall, and course for that local market. Keep pricing as "low first period, then renew every 4 weeks." Write the store listing to comply with policy, and spell out cancellation and refund terms on the web page. That will cut down on one-star reviews a lot.

How to acquire users: Buy Meta and AppLovin Axon ads that land on a web quiz. Creative should center on "from beginner to confident trader in 28 days." Start by testing a batch of creatives in one country with a small budget, and only add spend once first-order revenue covers acquisition cost (inference).

Deadline: No holiday window. But ad review for finance-related content can tighten at any time, and clones are multiplying every month. The later you enter, the more expensive it gets.

What would prove the read wrong: ① Finelo's weekly growth on Play (11-06 about 19.7k) drops by more than half, showing the model is fading; ② Meta or Apple starts pulling "AI trading challenge" ads or apps in bulk; ③ The reverse: if LearnFolio's US rating count passes 1,000 in three months, a small account copying the model 21 months late can still work, and this slot is wider than it looks.

Bottom line

LearnFolio is not a product that grew on its own. It is a near word-for-word copy of the "28-day trading challenge" web2app ad funnel from Finelo (part of Zimran, 100k+ ratings on iOS, 1.56M installs on Play): Meta, Google, and AppLovin Axon ads land on a web quiz page (quiz.learnfolioai.com), subscriptions are collected on the web via Stripe and PayPal, and the app serves as a delivery shell. It is currently very small (130 ratings in the US store, 1,218 installs on Play) and is in the "testing with paid ads" stage. It has no differentiation of its own. What's worth noting is that this funnel is already being copied in bulk by a number of studios.

1. What it is

  • An education app for investing beginners: short lessons, quizzes, a virtual-money simulator, AI explanations, plus XP and daily streaks. The store description is very conservative ("not investment advice, no real-money trading").
  • The official site learnfolioai.com says "The 28-day investing foundation for beginners" (source: learnfolioai.com, fetched 2026-11-06).
  • But the quiz page the ads land on says "28-DAY TRADING CHALLENGE", "100M+ Users Choose", "4.8 Score Rated on trustpilot", and the paywall says "Your personal 28-day AI Trader challenge — Become a confident trader" and "grow wealth" (source: quiz.learnfolioai.com/intro_4021/question_1.html and /paywall.html, fetched 2026-11-06). The "100M users" and "Trustpilot 4.8" claims are clearly template copy for an app that only launched in July.
  • Launch timing: iOS 2026-07-22 (data card); the Android version com.ailearnfolio.app launched on 2026-09-08, developer name "Ai LearnFolio Labs" (googleplay library).

2. Data: how many people see it

How to read these numbers:

  • Only 4 of the US store's 130 ratings has written text, and those titles are very generic ("Investing / Growing", "Stepping", "Learning"). Most ratings likely come from the in-app rating prompt. In this type of funnel, the people who open the app are mostly users who have already paid on the web, so the rating count roughly reflects paying users, not organic downloads. Using a rough 1–3% rating rate, US iOS installs would be in the low thousands to about ten thousand (unverified, order of magnitude only).
  • The bar for education top-grossing charts in small countries is very low (Bahrain ranked #31 when that store's rating count was 0). These rankings only show sporadic Apple in-app purchases, not revenue scale. Our library has no US chart records for this app, which means it was not captured in the US education chart tracking.
  • Visibility: basically nobody knows about it. On X (x-radar, last 90 days), a search for LearnFolio returns 0 posts; on TikTok, a search for learnfolio turns up no relevant videos; there's no press coverage, and no TrustMRR listing or founder sharing revenue. The only public negative voice is a 1-star review in the US store: "The app says it starts at $20, but it charges $43.50 a month."
  • But the model it copied (Finelo) has already been widely discussed: someone on LinkedIn dissected Finelo's funnel ("1.5M+ users… multi-million/month… one Web2App funnel ~2.45M paid/display visits/mo, 29 screens to paywall", www.linkedin.com/posts/deniz-chiftchi_finelo-has-15m-users-t…), and people on Reddit r/passive_income and r/investing_discussion have also discussed Finelo's 28-day challenge ads.

Bottom line: this niche already has a big original (Finelo), a big studio's second app (Finrise), and at least three or four clones. LearnFolio is one of the smallest of them.

4. Growth tactics (evidence)

  1. Meta ads (pixel confirmed): The quiz page's GTM container GTM-P5RNCDG9 contains the Meta pixel 2896152774080364, plus a commented-out older pixel 1201030141403782 (common/js/init_ads.js). Our metaads database didn't track this advertiser, but it only covers the first screen of keyword results, so not finding it doesn't mean they aren't buying.
  2. Google Ads (conversion tracking confirmed): The same GTM container has AW-18551306481 and GA4 G-JCDXKSH4YS / G-LWGGYZDSWR. Google search results also show Play links with utm_source=google&utm_term=learnfolio investing app.
  3. AppLovin Axon web ads (confirmed): Every step of the quiz and paywall pages calls axonPixelEvent (page_view / view_item / begin_checkout / add_to_cart). This is AppLovin's Axon pixel for web advertisers, meaning they buy traffic inside AppLovin's games and send people into a web funnel.
  4. Web funnel + web payments (confirmed): The quiz.learnfolioai.com flow is "quiz (have you traded before, age...) → transition page → paywall." The paywall has a 10-minute countdown, "Welcome discount 50%," an auto-generated "promo code" based on the username, and a retention popup "GET 60% DISCOUNT," with auto-renewal every 4 weeks. Payments go through Stripe (pk_live) and PayPal Card Fields. The subscription terms list weekly, 4-week, 12-week, and annual periods, and state that web subscriptions must be canceled on the web. Taking payment on the web avoids Apple's 30% cut.
  5. Store search / ASO: Weak. The store name is "LearnFolio: Investing," the description is written to be compliant, and there's no evidence they rely on store search for traffic.
  6. Influencers / social / media: Not found (TikTok and X are both 0).

How the money comes back: Using Finelo's pricing (about $20 for the first 4 weeks, then about $43.50 every 4 weeks, matching what reviewers say, $43.50), a web paying user is worth roughly $20 on the first order. One or two renewals cover the Meta / AppLovin acquisition cost. A review with 1 stars ("said $20 to start, actually $43.50 a month") shows that the profit comes from "first-period discount + auto-renewal."

5. Who's behind it

  • The frontend code still has Chinese comments ("cloud control config," "report - daily active," "is member, 1 yes 0 no"), which suggests a Chinese team wrote it.
  • The funnel code was adapted from a weight-loss/fitness funnel: the Apple login Service ID is still com.healthy.lightfit.web, user fields still include height / weight / goal_weight / gender, and API domains use cardio. / domrac. subdomains. The official homepage even has leftover fitness-funnel copy: "Joint-friendly options · No equipment needed."
  • The terms name the service provider as APPCENTURY LIMITED. There's an App Store developer called "AppCentury Apps" that makes cleaner, AI translation, and face-swap utility apps (Smart Cleaner peaks at 2,970 ratings in a single store), likely the same studio (unverified). The named CYBER CARRIER CAPITAL LIMITED is a Cayman "digital infrastructure capital" shell company with no connection to the website or app business. Most likely a different developer account was used for finance-app listing eligibility or entity separation.
  • This is a multi-niche template studio that buys ads: the same quiz/paywall code ran fitness first, then got a new skin to run investing education.

6. Why it can grow (at its current scale)

  1. The niche is already validated by Finelo: public LinkedIn breakdowns describe it as "multi-million/month," with a funnel getting about 2.45M paid / impression visits a month. Latecomers can run it just by copying the funnel, creatives, and pricing.
  2. The studio already has ready-made web2app infrastructure (quizzes / paywall pages / Stripe+PayPal / cloud config / Axon+Meta+GA tracking). Swap the skin and it can launch, so the cost of trial and error is very low.
  3. Web payments avoid Apple's 30% cut. In-app prompts for ratings quickly built 130 4.7-star ratings in the US store, which backs up later ad traffic and store conversion.
  4. "AI trader 28-day challenge" is appealing to beginners, with pricing of "$20 first period → $43.50 every 4 weeks." But the store description is written to be compliant, sidestepping Apple's review of financial content.

7. Differentiation

There's no product-level differentiation. The features, copy, pricing structure, and "28-day challenge" framing are all the same as Finelo, even "start with $20." Its differences are only in two places: cost structure (reusing an existing template, team in China), and adding AppLovin Axon to the ad channel mix. Neither is why it's working; it isn't really working yet, it's just spending money to test.

8. What others can learn

  • The web app funnel is a reusable asset across niches: the same quiz, paywall, tracking, and remote-config code can move from fitness to investing education by swapping only the copy and questions. 2
  • The ad landing pages and store pages use two different sets of messaging: ads and quiz pages are aggressive, store descriptions stay compliant, and both sides keep working.
  • AppLovin Axon can already send traffic to web subscription funnels, a new traffic pool beyond Meta.
  • Following an already-validated big app (Finelo) with a localized or smaller clone can find viable gaps (like Korea's Investing101). But be clear-eyed: this direction is already crowded, and on the web, "first-period discount + auto-renewal" carries high refund and bad-review risk (TradeSmart's rating is only 1.94).

9. Uncertain

  • Actual ad spend: Meta / AppLovin active ad count and spend weren't checked (the metaads database doesn't track this advertiser).
  • The real price table: the paywall prices are served through cloud control and weren't captured. The $43.50 figure comes from a single review and matches Finelo's pricing.
  • Whether APPCENTURY LIMITED and "AppCentury Apps" are the same company, and what the relationship to CYBER CARRIER CAPITAL is, are unverified.
  • Where the US ratings came from: whether paying users were prompted by popups to rate, or whether ratings were faked, can't be distinguished.
