> French TikTok videos of people handing their chats to an AI to judge toxicity were already blowing up. A growth-focused dev copied the format into a French-native app, paired it with automated content and store listings in 44 languages, and climbed the charts in less crowded French-speaking markets and French-speaking Africa.

# Toss a chat screenshot to AI to rate toxicity: a French growth lead's weekend app, and the playbook behind it, "find the viral video first, then build the app"

**What it is** A French-language app: upload a chat screenshot, the AI gives it a toxicity score, points out what's wrong with the other person, then writes a reply you can send straight away. Subscription required.

**Why it took off** The "paste the chat into AI to judge toxicity" format was already going viral on French TikTok. The developer, a professional growth marketer, copied the format into a French-native app, backed it with automated content and store copy in 44 languages, and went after the French and French-speaking African markets, where competition is thin, and climbed the charts.

**B** **How you could follow it** Stop making French versions. Take this video format into a language where people are already filming it but no native app exists yet, run a batch of alt accounts posting videos yourself, and build the app as three screens with a hard paywall and a weekly plan.

Grade B: the playbook is clear, the cost is tiny, and anyone can copy it, but the product has zero moat (ChatGPT can do the same thing), two players are already distributing in the French market, and whether it works depends on your ability to produce short videos at volume. Most apps like this are one-wave plays. Circulating in small circles

Toxik AI is a French app: upload a chat screenshot and it gives it a toxicity score from 0 to 100, lists red flags, and writes a comeback for you. The product is easy to build; apps like this already existed in English a year-plus ago. It took off because of the developer's playbook: find a video format already going viral on TikTok, build an app that can produce the same kind of visuals, and go after the less crowded French market. The playbook is the part worth studying, not this app.

### A "publicité*" post with 90k views

In Nov 2, a French TikTok alt account called @shana_privateaccount posted a video captioned "c'est chaud franchement on voit tout !!" (honestly, that's brutal, you can see everything!!), tagged #relationtoxique #manipulateur #couple, with a small "publicité*" at the end. That post reached 11-06k views by 90. Scrolling back, the account posted almost every day from 10-27 to 11-04, with captions like "I'm stunned" and "why didn't anyone tell me earlier", and views ranging from a thousand-plus to over twenty thousand. Its bio reads "ambassadrice the cringe", meaning it's promoting The Cringe, another app in the same category (TikTok, 11-06 scrape).

That's the format for this category: a woman drops a screenshot of a chat with her boyfriend (or ex, best friend, boss) into an AI, a toxicity score and a list of red flags pop up, and she makes a shocked face at the camera. Toxik didn't invent this format. Sep 24, when it launched, people were already paying to promote these videos.

### What it is

The first line of the French store page reads: "On te manque de respect ? Envoie le screen." (Someone disrespecting you? Send the screenshot.) The flow has four steps: send a screenshot or paste messages → see the toxicity score and red flags (guilt-tripping, gaslighting, hot and cold, control, playing the victim) → pick a tone and length → tap to copy, paste, send.

There are three tones, written in very Gen Z style:

- Chill: posé, tu recadres calmement (calm, you calmly steer the conversation back)

- Énervé: ferme, tu dis que ça suffit (firm, you say enough is enough)

- Méchant: cash, tu fermes la conversation (blunt, you shut the conversation down)

Length has three levels too: one line, a few lines, a full paragraph. No sign-up, screenshots aren't stored. The download is free, but "all features require a subscription": weekly €7.99, monthly €14.99, yearly €29.99 / €59.99 (French App Store page, 11-06).

### How big it got

Not big, but growing:

| | 10-28 | 11-06 |
|---|---|---|
| Global rating count | 158 | 270 (7-day +102, 9–21 new per day) |
| France ratings | 107 | 205 (Apple page shows 211 ratings, 4.6 stars) |
| French store Lifestyle ranking | Top Free #98–129 | Charted in **Top Grossing** from 11-01, ranked 84–143 (best at #11-03, 84) |
| Senegal | 38 ratings | 53 ratings, Lifestyle Top Free #32–61 |

It also charts on the Lifestyle Top Free chart in Mali, Niger and Madagascar (ranked #15, #32 and #17 respectively, going by 11-06). All three are French-speaking African countries, where a handful of ratings is enough to chart. The US store has only 19 ratings. So it's an app that only moves in the French-speaking world.

Lots of ratings, almost no written reviews. The two visible French reviews: one five-star "Cool / Nickel", one one-star "PAYANT! c'est chiant de ne même pas avoir de version gratuite" (It's paid! Annoying there isn't even a free version). Many ratings with few reviews usually means the app prompts for a rating (inferred).

### Who built it: a professional growth marketer

The developer, Paul Soubigou, is French and works full-time as growth lead at Rocapine, a consumer app studio that raised a $13M Series A. His personal site says he built an AI platform that mass-produces short-form app videos, set up an automated creative system at Rocapine, ran two UGC creator programs, generated 50M organic views in total, and for 2021–2024 years ran a 2.5M-follower French Instagram network.

Jul 8, he wrote a LinkedIn post about his previous app (judging by timing and description, the dating reply coach Doro):

> Most people build an app first and hope it spreads. I find what's already spreading first, then build the app into it. I found a TikTok format that clearly works, spent 2 hours on a weekend building a Gen Z app… then automated content production, and now posting takes only 5 minutes a day. Less than 10 hours went into the app itself; the rest went to distribution. After one month it hit $1000 and reached #88 in French Lifestyle. 100% organic traffic, 0 ad spend. I bet on the format, not the app.

Toxik runs the same playbook. His personal site says the apps he has combined bring in roughly $5000 a month and held the top 100 in France for two straight months. Note this is the combined portfolio number; he hasn't disclosed what Toxik alone makes.

### Where users come from

- **A ready-made format on TikTok** (confirmed as their playbook): "screenshot ingredient check + shocked face" has already been proven on French TikTok by accounts like The Cringe. Similar Arabic-language videos have hit 60–700k views each. I couldn't find which accounts Toxik itself posts from; it could be a network of unbranded accounts (unverified).

- **Results pages are built for filming** : a "toxicity 87/100 + three red flags + one brutal line" screenshot is ready-made video material, and users share it themselves.

- **Multilingual ASO** : store listings localized into 44 languages (App Store pages). The French store title is "Détecte & Réponds", the US store title is "Toxicity Checker", and the keywords are swapped for each store.

- **French-speaking Africa spillover** : French-language video plus a French store page, naturally spilling into stores like Senegal and Mali where chart thresholds are low (inferred).

- **Paid acquisition** : not found. He publicly emphasizes organic traffic, but his day job is ads, so it can't be ruled out.

### Where the money comes from

A hard paywall plus a weekly plan. With only about two hundred French ratings, it still reached the top 84–143 of Lifestyle Top Grossing, which suggests a high conversion rate and high price per buyer (inferred). His LinkedIn post also says: "Test onboarding and pricing early, until it converts." For apps like this, the money is almost all spent on the paywall screen; the features themselves cost little.

### Who it's competing with

Crowded, and not new:

| Product | Launched | Scale | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Cringe: Chat Wrapped | 2026-05 | 703 French ratings | The most direct French rival, leaning toward entertaining "chat annual report" style, scaling through an influencer account network |
| Toxic AI: Text Respond AI | 2024-12 | US 745, French 74 ratings | English-language pioneer, nearly identical features, official TikTok account posting daily |
| RealTalk - Chat Analyzer | 2025-11 | US store 462 ratings | English only, no French store |
| Flagz, The Ick, Analyse Chat AI: IntoMe, etc. | 2025-12 ~ 2026-08 | Single-digit ratings | French-language peers; some are localized packages from foreign developers mass-produced without distribution |
| ChatGPT / Claude with a pasted screenshot | — | Huge | Free, can do anything |

(Rating counts from the Apple store, 11-06)

Toxik isn't the first, nor the biggest: The Cringe launched more than 4 months earlier and has over 3× its volume. What it has beyond English competitors is native French tone (using "tu") and putting "detection + three tones of ready-made replies" on one screen. That makes it feel more natural to French users than translated English apps, but it isn't why it took off.

### How long it lasts

It may be a one-wave thing. The same developer's previous app, Doro, stalled at 161 French ratings and stopped moving. For apps like this, the lifecycle follows the heat of a content format: installs peak while the videos are hot, then drop once the format gets stale. His answer is to keep shipping new apps, with over 13 listed on his personal site, and push whichever one catches on.

### If it were you

**B: copy the playbook, not the product.** French-speaking markets already have The Cringe and Toxik both doing distribution, so a French version would have a hard time finding a spot. What you can do: bring the "screenshot toxicity check" format to a language where people are already filming this kind of video but no native app exists yet, or use the same method to find the next format.

**Who it suits** : one or two people who can edit short videos, run TikTok account networks at scale, aren't native English speakers (German, Spanish, Arabic, Turkish, and Portuguese are worth checking first), and can write natural young-audience voice.

**Who it doesn't suit** : people who only write code and won't make videos. The app can be built in a few hours, ChatGPT does the same job, and the product has no moat. It also doesn't suit anyone wanting a product that retains users long-term: this is a fast-moving consumer product.

**How to do it** : first search TikTok in your target language for terms like "toxic relationship / red flag", and confirm there are screenshot-toxicity videos tagged as ads that each pull tens of thousands of views before you start. The app needs three screens: upload, score with red flags, pick a tone and copy a reply. Design the results screen to be filmable: a big score, short red flags, lines you can read aloud. Use a hard paywall with the weekly plan first, and spend the first few days before launch mainly testing onboarding and pricing. Localize store copy into multiple languages from the start.

**How to get users** : run 5–10 small accounts posting daily "throw the chat at AI → shocked face" videos, with captions in the voice of those accounts ("I'm stunned", "why didn't anyone tell me earlier"); automate content production as much as possible, or one person can't sustain it. If you want other countries, you have to solve account region issues; he used tools like TokPortal.

**When to get in early** : watch the format's heat. Get in while, in the language you chose, these videos are still being posted and promoted daily; once three or four native apps show up under the same format, it's too late.

**Signs you've misread it** : ① Toxik's French ratings stall below 300 by late November and drop off Top Grossing, meaning the format has peaked in French; ② you can't find sizable similar videos in your chosen language, meaning demand has to be educated from scratch and this playbook won't work; ③ ChatGPT or Instagram ships its own "one-tap chat toxicity check" feature, which would absorb this whole category.

Where users come from

- **Verified** **TikTok content format + automated content (dev playbook)** : LinkedIn says: find a TikTok content format that's already hot, then build a Gen Z app. Content automation takes 5 minutes a day. The previous app hit $1000 in its first month, #88 in the French Lifestyle chart, 0 ads. His personal site lists AppTide / KISS, an automated creative platform, and 50M UGC views.

- Inferred **French TikTok "#relationtoxique" screenshot-judging burner account network (category level)** : @shana_privateaccount ("ambassadrice the cringe"), @douae_privateacco and others post almost daily, tagged publicité*, 1k–89k views per video. No account clearly tied to Toxik was found.

- **Verified** **Multilingual ASO** : store copy localized into 44 languages. French store title Détecte & Réponds, US store title Toxicity Checker. His site claims ASO in up to 50 languages.

- **Verified** **French-speaking Africa spillover** : Senegal, Mali, Niger, Madagascar Lifestyle Top Free #15–51 (library 11-06).

- Inferred **In-app rating prompts** : 210 ratings in the French store at 4.6 stars, but almost no written reviews (inferred).

- Inferred **Paid acquisition** : nothing found; the developer publicly stresses organic traffic.

## Toxik AI: Détecte & Réponds (iOS id6790562312) research report

Research date: 2026-11-06. Data sources: our appstore library (app_day / app_profile, from 2026-10-28), Apple lookup API, App Store web pages, the developer's personal site and LinkedIn, TikHub (TikTok), Jina search.

### One line

A French-language app that checks chat screenshots for toxicity and writes the comeback. Upload a screenshot and get a toxicity score of 0–100, red flags, and a one-line verdict. Then pick one of three tones (Chill / Énervé / Méchant) and three lengths to generate a reply you can send as-is. The developer, Paul Soubigou, is growth lead at Rocapine (a consumer app studio that raised a $13M Series A) and also ships small apps in batches. It works mainly because he's good at distribution (find a content format already performing on TikTok, build the app around it, automate content production), not because the product has a unique feature.

### 1. Data

- Launched 2026-09-24, version 1.1.2 (2026-10-14). Free to download, hard paywall (store description: "all features require a subscription"). In-app purchases: Pro weekly €7.99, monthly €14.99, yearly €29.99 / €59.99 (French App Store page, 2026-11-06).

- All-store rating count: 158 (10-28) → 270 (11-06), +102 in the last 7 days, 9–21 per day (library daily_all_countries).

- France: rating count 107 (10-28) → 205 (11-06); Lifestyle Top Free #98–129 (10-28 ~ 10-31). From 11-01 it appears on the Lifestyle **Top Grossing** chart at #84–143 (best #11-03, 84 in total) (library app_day). The Apple French store page shows 210 ratings at 4.6 stars.

- Senegal: rating count 38 → 53, Lifestyle Top Free #32–61. Mali (#15), Niger (#32) and Madagascar (#17) are also on the Lifestyle Top Free chart. All French-speaking African markets, where the bar to chart is low (library app_profile, 11-06).

- The US store has only 19 ratings (Apple lookup, us), so this is still essentially a French-market product.

- Lots of ratings, almost no written reviews (the French store page shows only "Cool / Nickel" and one "PAYANT! Not even a free version"). Many ratings with few reviews usually means the app prompted for a rating. This is an inference, not verified.

### 2. Competitors

| Product | Where | Launched | Scale | How it differs from Toxik |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| The Cringe: Chat Wrapped(VASTE COMPANY LLC) | iOS | 2026-05-08 | 703 ratings in the French store (Apple search, fr) | The most direct French rival, positioned as a "chat annual report / analysis" with an entertainment bent. It fills content through a batch of "ambassadrice" burner accounts on TikTok (see below). Toxik focuses on "score + reply for you". |
| Toxic AI: Text Respond AI(Kai Frohner) | iOS / Android / web at toxicai.app | 2024-12-05 | US 745, French 74 ratings | The English-market pioneer. TikTok @toxicaiapp posts daily (1k–48k views per video). Nearly the same features (relationship reply generation), but not native French. |
| RealTalk - Chat Analyzer | iOS | 2025-11-26 | US store 462 ratings | English chat analysis, 0 in the French store |
| Toxicity: Text & Tone Analyzer(VybeTech)+ toxicityapp.io | iOS / web | 2025-07-21 | 2 ratings on iOS; TikTok @toxicity_app peaks around 20k views | Positioned as "check whether you're toxic before you send", the reverse direction |
| Flagz : Détecteur de Red Flags | iOS (French) | 2025-12-23 | 1 ratings | A French competitor in the same category, barely any traction |
| The Ick / Red Flag: Cringe Analyse Chat / Analyse Chat AI: IntoMe etc. | iOS | 2026-06 ~ 08 | Single-digit ratings | Copycat French localizations pushed in batches by developers in Turkey and elsewhere |
| ToxicDetector.com, cringechat.app/fr, decodethistext.com | Web | 2025–2026 | Not verified | Web tools, accepting WhatsApp export files or screenshots |
| ChatGPT / Claude with a pasted screenshot | Big-company features | — | Huge | Free and does everything; what Toxik sells is the fixed "one-tap score + three tones" format, plus a result screen built to be filmed as a short video |
| The same developer's Doro: Coach Séduction IA | iOS | 2026-04-03 | 161 ratings in the French store, stalled | The same playbook's previous app (a dating-reply coach) |

Bottom line: the category is crowded and not new. In the English market, Toxic AI and RealTalk launched over a year earlier. In French, The Cringe launched more than 4 months before it, with more than 3 times its volume. Toxik isn't the first, and it isn't the biggest.

### 3. Growth tactics

1. **"Find the content format first, then build the app" on TikTok (self-described by the developer, confirmed as his playbook; no Toxik-specific account found)** . Paul wrote on LinkedIn in 2026 July about his previous app (by timing and description, Doro): "Find an obviously trending TikTok content format, build a Gen Z app in a weekend, 2 hours ... automate content production so posting takes just 5 minutes a day ... hit $1000 in its first month, #88 in the French Lifestyle chart, 100% organic traffic, 0 ads". He also says he'll use TokPortal to post as a US-disguised account to go after the US market. His personal site says he built AppTide (an AI platform that mass-produces app short videos), set up KISS (an automated creative platform) at Rocapine, ran two UGC creator programs, accumulated 50M organic views, and ran a French Instagram network of 2.5M followers over 2021–2024 years.

2. **The content format itself is hot on French TikTok (confirmed)** : under "#relationtoxique #toxicrelationshipcheck" are "xxx_privateaccount"-style burner accounts posting chat screenshots judged toxic by AI, tagged publicité*, with 1k–89k views per video (e.g. @shana_privateaccount, bio "ambassadrice the cringe", 10-27 ~ 11-04, almost daily; @douae_privateacco, peak 12k views per video). Similar Arabic-language videos reach 60–700k views each. By the time Toxik launched, The Cringe and others had already validated this format.

3. **French-speaking Africa spillover (inferred)** : Senegal, Mali, Niger and Madagascar all appear on the charts, consistent with natural spillover from French TikTok content plus French store copy. The Lifestyle chart bar is low in these markets, so a few ratings can get you on it.

4. **ASO** : store copy localized into 44 languages (lookup languageCodesISO2A; he claims "ASO in up to 50 languages"). French store title "Détecte & Réponds", US store title "Toxicity Checker", keywords swapped by store.

5. **Paid ads** : no evidence found. He publicly stresses organic traffic for his apps, but his core job is ad buying, so paid spend can't be ruled out.

6. **Rating prompts (inferred)** : many ratings, almost no written reviews.

### 4. Why it took off

- Demand is ready-made: "Is he gaslighting me / is it my fault" is a long-running emotional theme on French TikTok, and screenshots are ready-made footage for video.

- The result screen is naturally filmable: "toxicity 87/100 + red flags + one savage line" turns into a video users repost themselves.

- The developer is good at distribution: he has said he finds a trending content format and then builds the app, with content production automated. His personal site lists his apps' combined figures: "$5000 a month, $2000 a week, 10k monthly downloads, top 100 in the French store for two months running". These are numbers for the whole portfolio, not Toxik alone.

- Direct monetization: hard paywall, weekly €7.99. It reaches the French Lifestyle Top Grossing chart at #84–143 with only a couple hundred ratings, suggesting users pay meaningfully (inferred).

- Low barrier: a solo developer can build it in a few hours with SwiftUI plus an LLM API. His approach is cheap, many-shots testing: push whichever one takes off (his site lists 13+ apps).

### 5. Differentiation

- Native French with a Gen Z voice ("tu", "Méchant : cash, tu fermes la conversation"), which feels more natural in French search and content than translated English apps.

- "Check + write the comeback" is one flow, with three tones × three lengths. The Cringe leans toward "read the report", Toxic AI toward "generate a reply", and Toxik puts both on one screen.

- No account signup, and screenshots aren't kept, which lowers the psychological barrier.

- None of these is the main reason it worked. Any team can build the features, and ChatGPT can too. The real drivers are distribution (content format + automated production + multilingual ASO) and picking French, a market with less competition. Differentiation just makes it feel smoother than English competitors in French.

### 6. Visibility

Small circles are talking: the developer has shown portfolio income on his personal site and LinkedIn (5000 a month, Doro $1000 in its first month), but the numbers are small. It isn't on TrustMRR, no media coverage found, and searching X for "toxik" returns 0 results. Similar products like The Cringe are already running creator networks in France, so plenty of people are competing on distribution in this category.

### 7. What to borrow

- "Find the content format first, then build the app": on TikTok, find a format that advertisers already use and that gets high views, then build an app that produces the same kind of screenshot result.

- Design the result screen to be filmable: one number score + a red-flag list + one line you can copy and say.

- Pick non-English, low-barrier markets (France + French-speaking Africa), roll out with multilingual ASO, and use a hard paywall with a weekly plan.

- One person runs several apps at once and pushes whichever takes off (Doro → Toxik → Same Place).

### 8. Uncertain

- Which TikTok / Instagram accounts Toxik used for distribution wasn't found (TikHub searches for toxik / toxikai show no clear match). It may be an unbranded burner network, or it may have used Rocapine's UGC resources.

- Whether it used paid acquisition wasn't verified (our ad library only tracks products on its watchlist).

- The developer hasn't published revenue for this app on its own; the personal site's numbers are for the whole portfolio.

- How long the growth lasts: Doro's ratings stalled around 160, so Toxik may also be a one-wave hit.

- The all-store competitor query in the library didn't finish due to a server timeout, so competitor scale uses Apple lookup / search numbers.
