Prayer-time lock sold to parents: Sukoon charts in Saudi Arabia with 100 ratings
What it is A prayer lock for Muslim families. It automatically locks distracting apps during prayer times. Parents manage their kid's iPhone remotely from their own phone, and the kid unlocks apps by reading a few minutes of the Quran.
Why it's taking off FivePrayer and others have already made the "prayer lock" a popular search term and paid category in Saudi Arabia. Sukoon is the only one that pairs a parent with a child's device. Parents are willing to pay a weekly subscription, and the hard paywall plus the low bar on Saudi charts means even small volume can get it onto the grossing charts.
BWhat you could do: Don't go head-on in Saudi Arabia. Move the "parent-run prayer lock" to Indonesia, Malaysia, Turkey, or Muslim families in the US and Europe, or swap in a Bible-reading unlock for Christian families. Move the paywall earlier, add a weekly parent report, use Apple Search Ads and parenting creators for acquisition, and ship before Ramadan 2027.

"When prayer time comes, lock the distracting apps on your phone." This category got hot in the Gulf this year, with dozens of apps. The leader FivePrayer alone has 40k+ ratings in Saudi Arabia. Sukoon launched in September and by Nov 6 had 108 ratings worldwide, yet it entered the Saudi Lifestyle Top Grossing chart, peaking at #32. It invented no new need. It just changed who pays: rivals sell prayer locks to young people who want self-discipline, while Sukoon sells to parents who fight with their kids over phones every day.
Two one-star reviews
In Oct 27, a Saudi user left Sukoon a one-star App Store review: "I downloaded the app and everything was fine, until I finished setup and it asked me to pay. You have the right to charge for your app, but I should have known in advance, not have it forced on me. And without a subscription there's no service at all. Too bad."
In Nov 3 another came in, one line: "Pay? I'm broke."
These are the only two written reviews it has in Saudi Arabia, and both describe the same thing: the paywall appears after you install, configure, and are ready to use it, and without paying nothing works. The complaints aside, this also explains how it reached the Top Grossing chart with so few ratings: everyone who stays is paying.
What it is
The first line of the store page: "Sukoon helps your whole family return to prayer, gently, without fighting over phones every day."
Here's how it works. A parent installs Sukoon on their own phone, then pairs it with the child's iPhone by scanning a code in person, which takes about two minutes (the child needs an Apple account listed under the parent's Family Sharing). After that, the parent decides which of the child's apps "rest" during which prayers and sets daily limits on noisy apps. The child reads a few minutes of the Quran, and the locked apps reopen. If the child wants to use an app early, they send "Can I unlock?" and the parent approves it with one tap from anywhere. Inside the family group you see in real time how many prayers each person has done and how many pages they've read, and the children can see their parents' records too. It also includes a 90-day "path" check-in and the full Quran.
It also works for one person. Without pairing, it's just a regular prayer lock.
Pricing is a hard subscription, and one subscription covers up to 5 children. Saudi store prices: weekly 29.99 riyals (about $8), monthly 39.99–79.99, yearly 129.99–179.99 (about $35–48). The yearly plan has a 3-day trial (Saudi App Store page, 11-06). The US page shows weekly $6.99–9.99 and yearly $29.99–39.99.
The developer, NUNE LLC, was founded in October 2025. Its website calls it a bootstrapped "AI-native app studio." In one year it shipped 5 apps covering sleep, calories, and routines, and the others have ratings of only 0 to 2. Sukoon is the only one that took off. The terms and privacy policy sit on a free Cloudflare Workers subdomain, which signals a very lean small team.

(App Store daily data)
Of 108 ratings, 100 are from Saudi Arabia and the rest are scattered across Qatar, the UAE, Oman, and Yemen. Average rating 4.62. In the Saudi Lifestyle Top Free chart it reached #13 at 10-28, then hovered between #19 and #71, and 11-06 was its best at #44. Top Grossing: #44 on 11-04, #32 on 11-05, and #47 on 11-06. It also appears lower down the Lifestyle charts in Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, and the UAE.
The Android version launched in Oct 3. Google Play installs went from 597 (10-29) to 2,559 (11-06), adding 1,028 in about a week.
The spike days are interesting. On Oct 30, iOS gained 16 ratings, and on the same day Android gained 934 installs. On Nov 3, iOS gained 12 and Android gained 641. When both platforms jump on the same day, someone usually pushed it from outside: an ad run, or a piece of content (inferred; I couldn't confirm which).
Where users come from
Store search in Saudi Arabia is most likely the main channel (inferred, high likelihood). Terms like "قفل الصلاة" (prayer lock) and "salah lock" were popularized in Saudi Arabia by this group of FivePrayer-style apps. Sukoon's title includes both Quran and Salah Lock, and it supports Arabic and 12 other languages. In the App Store's "customers also bought" section, it appears alongside local apps QFL-قفل and Khushu.
Paid acquisition: signs, no evidence. Same-day spikes on both platforms, a hard paywall, and weekly pricing are a typical paid-acquisition setup. But I couldn't find it in the public Meta ad library, and whether it ran Apple Search Ads or Snapchat in Saudi Arabia isn't visible from outside (unverified).
Content and creators: none. Searching "sukoon app" on TikTok returns other products with the same name. The viral videos in this category, with 300k to 1.28M views, all come from FivePrayer, SalahScreen, Aqimo and the like. Nobody talks about it on X, Reddit, or in the media either.
Who it's competing with
It's crowded. There are 40+ iOS apps whose names combine salah / prayer / quran with lock / block / focus, most launched between October 2025 and August 2026.
| App | Launched | Scale | How Sukoon differs |
|---|---|---|---|
| FivePrayer - Pray on Time | 2026-02 | About 75k iOS ratings globally; Saudi 41,175, +858 in a week; #3 Top Grossing in Saudi Reference; 1.81M Google Play installs | Category leader, sells individual self-discipline, no remote parent control of kids |
| Prayr - Salah & Focus | 2025-10 | About 3,645 ratings, charted in 56 countries | Personal check-ins plus blocking |
| SalahScreen | 2025-10 | About 1,083 ratings, +116 in a week; TikTok videos with 310k views in French-speaking regions | Individual, hard subscription, relies on creators |
| PrayLock, Salah Focus, 5Locks, QFL-قفل, Khushu, etc. | 2025-03 to 2026-08 | Dozens to hundreds of ratings each | All self-managed |
| Salah Together, Raka: Family Salah | 2026-10 | Ratings 0 | Family prayer check-ins and stickers, no app locking |
| Apple Screen Time, Google Family Link, Kidslox | Already around | Big | Can manage kids, but not scheduled by prayer time, no Quran-reading unlock |
(App Store and Google Play, 11-06)
Scanning the store descriptions of Saudi competitors, only Sukoon writes both "parent / child" and "pairing / Family Sharing." Big-company parental controls have existed for years, and dozens of companies make prayer locks, but Sukoon is currently the only one combining the two.
Why it could reach the Top Grossing chart
First, the demand already exists. FivePrayer has shown that Saudis will pay for "lock your phone during prayer." Sukoon entered a hot category rather than creating one.
Second, the payer changed. Young people buy self-discipline tools for themselves and may download without paying. Parents who want their kids to use phones less and pray more are far more willing to pay, and one subscription covers 5 children, which supports a weekly price of 30 riyals. This is the best explanation for how it ranked so high on Top Grossing with only 100 ratings, 30 (inferred: how many people use the parent features is not visible from outside, and it may also just be people searching "prayer lock" who downloaded on impulse).
Third, the Saudi Lifestyle chart has a low bar. Small volume can still chart, and the hard paywall means every user who stays converts directly into a revenue ranking.
If it were you
B, worth a try. The direction is right: in a category already proven to make money, target parents as the paying user. Technically, Apple's FamilyControls makes child-device pairing feasible, the barrier is not high, and few people are doing it. The weak points are clear too. Sukoon itself is still small, so the evidence that the parent feature drives growth is weak. FivePrayer has 70k+ ratings and a large base of longtime users, and if it adds a family plan someday, the gap closes.
Good fit for: indie devs or two-to-three-person small teams who have built Screen Time / FamilyControls apps before, can localize into Arabic or other Muslim markets, and can run their own Apple Search Ads.
Not a fit for: people who just want to copy a "prayer lock" (40+ already in line, with FivePrayer ahead); people without a feel for religious-market messaging who can't write copy and earn the trust of parents and app reviewers; Android-only builders (managing kids across devices is much harder and worse on Android).
How to do it:
- Don't head-on in Saudi Arabia, where Sukoon and FivePrayer already are. Change markets: Indonesia, Malaysia, Turkey, Pakistan have many parents and few native-language apps, though prices should sit below the Gulf's. Or Muslim families in the US and Europe, in English, French, or German.
- Or change the religion: a parent version of "scripture unlock" for Christian families. Someone in the US is making a personal Bible Lock, and the parent version is still open (inferred; I haven't scanned systematically).
- Fix what it does badly: move the paywall earlier. Say up front that it's a subscription, give a few days of free use before the child's device is set up, and don't wait until after pairing to charge. Both Saudi one-star reviews died on exactly that point. Add a weekly report on the parent side showing "this week your child prayed X times and used their phone Y hours less." That's the reason to renew.
How to acquire users: Buy Apple Search Ads on "salah lock", "prayer app for kids", and local-language terms like "prayer lock" and "children's prayer." On TikTok and Instagram, find mom creators who post about parenting and Islamic education, and film the moment "my kid went to prayer on their own." Videos like this can reach hundreds of thousands of views in this category (competitors' videos already prove it). Ramadan is the strongest moment of the year. Ramadan 2027 starts around Feb 8, so have the product and creatives ready by January.
Launch window: Ship before Ramadan 2027. After that, FivePrayer-style apps will likely add family features, and the window narrows.
What would show this read was wrong: ① Sukoon still hovers around 100+ ratings in December and drops out of the top 100 Top Grossing, which would mean its revenue ranking was a fluke of the low Saudi chart bar and the parent version doesn't sell well; ② FivePrayer or Prayr ships a parent pairing feature, which largely closes this path in Saudi Arabia and leaves only the market-change approach; ③ conversely, if Sukoon starts getting volume outside the Gulf, that shows the parent version can drive growth on its own, which makes it more worth building than this piece suggests.

One line
An iOS app that locks distracting apps when prayer time arrives, launched 2026-09-04. This category was already made hot across the Gulf this year by dozens of rivals such as FivePrayer. Sukoon came later, and its differentiator is the parent version: parents use their own phone to remotely manage their child's iPhone through Apple Family Sharing / Screen Time, the child requests unlocks, and the parent approves with one tap, with one subscription covering up to 5 children. Its growth comes almost entirely from Saudi Arabia (100 of 108 ratings from sa), and it is still small.
1. Data (how big it is now)
- iOS total ratings 42 (10-28) → 108 (11-06), +49 over the last 7 days; sa 37 → 100, making up 93%. Daily additions have spikes: 10-30 +16, 11-03 +12, 11-06 +10 (appstore.app_day, sa).
- Charts (appstore.app_day, sa Lifestyle): Top Free 10-28 #13, then fluctuated between 19–71, 11-06 #44; Top Grossing 11-04 #44, 11-05 #32, 11-06 Top Grossing #47 (v_chart). Also on the Lifestyle charts for kw, qa, bh, om, ae and ye (ye 11-01 Top Grossing category #1, overall Top Grossing #67, though Yemen's bar is extremely low). The Similarweb search snippet shows 10-19 is already #40 in sa (similarweb.com/app/apple/6791053661, page 403, only the snippet was visible).
- Average rating 4.62 (iTunes lookup sa, 101 ratings).
- Android version com.nunellc.sukoon 2026-10-03 listed: installs 597 (10-29) → 2,559 (11-06), +1,028 over 7 days, only ranked #93 on the sa Lifestyle Top Free chart (googleplay library). iOS and Android daily spikes landed on the same days (10-30: iOS +16 / Android +934; 11-03: iOS +12 / Android +641), which suggests an off-platform push (an ad campaign or a piece of content); I could not find out what it was.
- Monetization: free download, mandatory subscription. US store in-app prices: weekly $6.99–9.99, monthly $9.99, annual $29.99–39.99 (App Store page); the annual plan has a 3-day trial.
- Negative reviews cluster around "you're asked to pay right after installing, and without paying nothing works" (sa 10-27, 11-03, two 1-star reviews). That confirms a hard paywall, which fits with it charting in Top Grossing.
2. Competitors: crowded, with one giant
The appstore library has more than 40 apps with names containing salah/prayer/quran plus lock/block/focus, most launched between 2025-10 and 2026-08:
| Product | Platform | Launched | Scale | How Sukoon differs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| FivePrayer - Pray on Time | iOS+Android | 2026-02 | iOS global ratings about 75k; sa 41,175, +858 over 7 days; sa Reference Top Grossing #3, kw #4; Play 1.81M installs, +20k over 7 days | Category leader, aimed at individuals; has app locking, check-ins, articles; no remote parental management of children |
| Prayr - Salah & Focus | iOS | 2025-10 | Rating about 3,645, has charted in 56 stores | Aimed at individuals, check-in + blocking |
| SalahScreen | iOS | 2025-10 | About 1,083,7 days +116 (French-speaking region has a TikTok with 310k views) | Individuals; post-prayer notes; mandatory subscription |
| Salah Focus / PrayLock / Prayer Pause / 5Locks / Siratum / QFL-قفل / Khushu, etc. | iOS | 2025-03 to 2026-08 | Dozens to hundreds of ratings each | All are individual self-control; Siratum's description mentions children, but there is no cross-device pairing |
| Salah Together, Raka: Family Salah, Family Prayer for Muslims | iOS | 2026-08-26 / 10-24 / 10-28 | Ratings 0 | Family check-ins / stickers, do not lock apps; these are the "family prayer" niche that appeared after Sukoon |
| Same name Sukoon (at least 6 others, e.g. Open Islam, Abdellatif FAIZE) | iOS | 2024–2026 | Small | Name collisions, with different features |
| Apple Screen Time / Google Family Link, Kidslox and other parental controls | Big-company features / iOS | Already around | Big | Can manage kids, but does not schedule by prayer times, no Qur'an unlock, no prayer check-in |
Conclusion: the "prayer lock" category is not short of products; FivePrayer has already shown the Gulf has large demand and people willing to pay. I scanned the descriptions of similar apps in sa, and of 10, only Sukoon mentions both parent/child and pairing / Family Sharing (appstore.app_text).
3. Growth tactics (where users come from)
- Store search + category heat (inferred, likely): "قفل الصلاة / salah lock" is a search term in Saudi Arabia that FivePrayer and others pushed up; Sukoon supports Arabic and 12 other languages, and its title contains the keywords Quran and Salah Lock. On the App Store "customers also bought" it appears alongside QFL-قفل and Khushu (apps.apple.com see-all page).
- Paid acquisition (unverified): both platforms spiked on the same day, hard paywall, weekly subscription (a typical paid-acquisition monetization structure). However, the Meta Ad Library shows no NUNE / Sukoon (the library only tracks a fixed list, so not finding it doesn't mean they didn't advertise), and Apple Search Ads in Saudi Arabia cannot be checked.
- TikTok / creators: none found. Searching TikTok for "sukoon app" returns other products (Sukoon Life, sukoon.dev which makes a music-quitting app), none from NUNE; the category's viral videos (300k to 1.28M views) belong to FivePrayer, Aqimo, SalahScreen, Salah Lock and other competitors.
- X (x-radar corpus 60 days), Reddit, media: nothing mentioning it.
- Developer: NUNE LLC is an AI-native app studio founded in 2025-10, self-funded (nunellc.com), which shipped 5 apps in a year (Miru, SleepStack, Sol, Sukoon, Calorithm); the others have ratings between 0 and 2; Sukoon is the only one that took off. The approach is to test many products and double down on whichever gets traction.
4. Why it charted
- Riding a Gulf demand that's already proven: FivePrayer has 41k ratings in sa and ranks #3 on Reference Top Grossing, with 1.81M Play installs, showing Saudi users pay for "lock your phone at prayer time." Sukoon entered a hot category rather than creating one.
- Switching who pays: rivals sell personal self-discipline; Sukoon sells to parents, solving "fighting with my kids over their phones every day." The user persona shifts from young adults to Gulf parents. Parents have high willingness to pay, and one subscription covers 5 children, which explains how it reached sa Lifestyle Top Grossing #32–47 with only 100 ratings.
- Hard paywall + weekly subscription: nothing works without paying, and the negative reviews are the evidence. Even a small user base can place on a revenue chart.
- Concentrated in Saudi Arabia: 93% of ratings come from sa, and the Saudi Lifestyle chart's bar is low, so small volume can chart.
5. Differentiation, and whether it's really why it grew
Differentiation: cross-device parental control (pair with the child's iPhone, parents set pauses and daily limits, the child sends unlock requests, family circle members see each other's prayer and Qur'an reading), plus "read a few minutes of the Qur'an to earn back app time" and a 90-day path. Among prayer-lock products this is unique (none of the similar apps we scanned have it). Is that the reason it took off: probably part of it, but the evidence is not strong enough. New ratings come from sa and it charts in Top Grossing, which fits the "parents pay" story; but users may just have downloaded it casually while searching salah lock, and we cannot see how many people use the parental features. The demand itself (proven by FivePrayer) is what supports the category; Sukoon just took a niche within it.
6. How many people have seen it
Few people know about it yet: no public revenue, no coverage by media or big X accounts, no TikTok videos specifically about it; only aggregator sites like AppBrain, Similarweb and Softonic auto-index it. Copycats: the category itself is crowded. After Sukoon, apps like Salah Together (10-24) and Raka: Family Salah (10-28) appeared as "family prayer" apps, but neither locks apps, and they rate 0; that's directional follow-on, not necessarily copying it.
7. What others can learn
- In a hot category, switch the payer (individual → parent). Apple's FamilyControls supports parents pairing their child's device (child authorization); the technical bar is not high, but few are doing it.
- Religious / habit category + Screen Time blocking + "do a good deed to unlock" (reading scripture to unlock). The mechanic can be applied to other categories (a Christian Bible Lock already exists).
- Small studios spreading many apps, doubling down on whichever gets traction.
8. Still unclear
- Whether they ran ads and where (Apple Search Ads / Meta / Snapchat could all be used in Saudi Arabia); what caused the two dual-platform spikes 10-30 and 11-03.
- Paid conversion and retention; the actual usage rate of the parent pairing feature.
- Other markets like the US have almost no volume; whether it can expand beyond the Gulf is unknown.
