# Crown Rips: a pack-opening app spun out of a US online casino, growing on the casino's own veteran players

**What it is** A phone app where you spend money to open Pokémon and sports card digital packs. The physical cards you pull can be shipped to you, or sold back at market value for cash.

**Why it's taking off** It's built by the operator of CrownCoins Casino. It was tested inside the casino first, then split into a standalone app, with the casino's veteran players and wallets carried straight over. Add invite-link free packs worth $15 to $25 and promo articles on casino affiliate sites.

**C** **How you could play it** Don't copy it in the US. If you go after this, pick a single card category the big US players haven't covered, or a different country, and make your pull rates and withdrawal speed public as the differentiator. Acquire users through invite-pack giveaways and mid-sized creator pack-opening livestreams.

C grade: pack opening does make money, but Crown Rips grew on the casino's ready-made user pool and wallets, which followers can't get. The US market is already crowded with VC-backed companies, DFS giants, and retail chains, and there are barriers in inventory, withdrawals, and state-by-state compliance. You can learn from its playbook, but following it isn't worth it. What's going around in niche circles

Crown Rips lets you spend $1 to several thousand dollars on a digital pack on your phone. After you open Pokémon or sports cards, you can have the physical cards mailed to you, or sell them back for cash at market value. It hit the App Store at the end of August, and in the last 10 days its daily new ratings went from 13 to 69. It's run by the operator of CrownCoins Casino, one of the top two sweepstakes casinos in the US, and its users were funneled over from that casino. More than twenty companies already compete in the US pack-opening space, some VC-backed, some from DFS giants. Crown Rips was able to squeeze in because of something indie developers don't have access to.

### July: 27,500 veteran casino accounts got early pack-opening access

In 2026 Jul 27, CrownCoins Casino randomly picked 500 long-time accounts and gave each one 5 SC (redeemable sweepstakes coins), asking them to try a new feature called Crown Rips: digital card packs (reported by covers.com and lines.com). The feature officially opened in mid-August. The rule: buy a Gold Coin pack and get a pack to open. Any balance won from opening packs can be spent back in CrownCoins and Crown Bingo (rg.org, 08-17).

Only later was it split into a standalone app. The Android version came out in August 7, and iOS in August 23, both published by Sunflower Ltd., the operator of CrownCoins. In October 20, a five-star App Store review described this path: "Finally there's a standalone app separate from CrownCoins Casino."

### How big it really is

To be clear: by App Store numbers, it's still small.

| Metric | Metric |
|---|---|
| iOS total ratings | 10-28 657, 11-06 1,060; 7 new in the last 344 days |
| iOS ranking | Only charted on the US Shopping free chart, ranked between #97 and #137, with 11-06 at #117. Not on the overall chart or Top Grossing. |
| Android installs | 122k, 7k new in the last 21 days (Google Play, 11-06) |
| Parent: CrownCoins Casino | iOS rating about 147k, adding 250 to 470 a day, ranked #4 to #8 on the US category free chart |

Android installs 120k, but only 1 thousand iOS ratings. This suggests users mostly didn't find it through App Store search. They clicked through web pages, promo articles, or invite links, and downloaded the app to deposit and open packs (inferred).

iOS average rating 4.71, but most of the written reviews are one-star. The update notes say "Enjoying Crown Rips? Leave a review!", which likely means the in-app prompt only asks happy users to rate (inferred, unverified).

### Where users come from

**Veteran casino players** are the biggest slice. CrownCoins ranks second in search demand among US sweepstakes casinos, and in July 2026 it held 15.21% (Blask, cited by lines.com). These users are already used to "deposit, gamble, withdraw." Payments, identity verification, and the withdrawal flow are all ready-made.

**Invite codes with free packs** . New users who sign up through an invite link get free packs worth $15 to $25. Some offers read "deposit $20, get up to $100 extra." Several threads on r/referralcodes on Reddit, and people posting codes in Facebook pack-opening groups. The tactic was copied from CrownCards and Rips by Triumph. Users move between several apps claiming new-user packs.

**Casino affiliate articles** . rg.org, lines.com, covers.com, and strafe.com have all covered it, with affiliate tracking parameters in the links. A partner piece in The Jerusalem Post from October 11 listed it among "5 online pack-opening platforms."

**Its own social accounts** : about 96k followers on Facebook and about 55k on Instagram. No videos about it show up on TikTok, and nobody mentioned it on X in the last 90 days. Gambling-type content is already restricted on TikTok, so this result makes sense.

**Ads** : no ad placements can be found from outside, but a September 24 review said "I found it through an ad, deposited $20 and got $10 back," so it has run at least some ads.

### Where the money comes from, and what users say

The money comes from pack opening: $1 packs mostly pull cards worth a few dimes, with the occasional expensive one. It leads with three selling points: "No dead pulls" (every pack has value), a 100% buyback at market price (competitors are usually 85% to 90%), and an adjustable "Thrill Level" (higher setting, steeper odds). The buyback rate is the easiest number to compare against rivals, which is why it leads as the headline.

The reviews are almost entirely about odds and withdrawals:

> "Deposited $30, opened $1 in packs, and the account is at 0,99% in gray cards." (App Store, 11-04)

> "Thrill set to max and the chance of a top card is only 4%. I have 6 pack-opening apps on my phone, and this one has the worst odds." (App Store, 10-18)

> "Withdrawals need bank statements, a passport, or an ID card." (App Store, 10-07)

Some people defend it:

> "Withdrawal took 20 hours, but it arrived. I've spent more on CrownCards, Triumph, and Tilt, but my best pulls have all come from here." (App Store, 10-26)

Revenue isn't public. It shares a balance with CrownCoins, and from the outside there's no way to separate what the standalone app earns from what the casino earns.

### Who it's competing with: more than twenty companies, and it sits in the middle to lower tier

From 2025 to 2026, "digital pack opening + physical card buyback" was hot in the US for a full year. thelines.com's ranking lists more than 13 companies, and covers.com says there are over 20. The table below shows US App Store numbers (11-06):

| Competitors | Scale | How it differs from Crown Rips |
|---|---|---|
| Rips by Triumph | iOS ratings 256k, +7,965 in 7 days; Play 1.82M installs | Category leader, raised $14.1M+, heavy paid acquisition |
| CrownCards | iOS ratings 28k, +2,978 in 7 days; Play 425k installs | Similar name, but a different company; sells graded cards and pays creator commissions |
| Packz | iOS ratings 25k | Consistently #1 on affiliate rankings, 90% buyback |
| Tilt Rips | iOS ratings 13.5k | Only Pokémon and trading card games |
| PrizePicks and Underdog's Packs/Rips | Parent app ratings 510k / 330k | DFS giant added $1 pack opening inside its original app |
| Fanatics, GameStop | card licensing / retail channels | Big players are in too |
| Fast Rips | iOS rating 472 | small players who launched around the same time as Crown Rips |

Crown Rips' weekly adds are roughly 1/23 those of Triumph and 1/9 those of CrownCards. It isn't the category pioneer, it's a late entrant. It squeezed in because it didn't have to buy users from scratch.

### Why now

In 2026, California, New York, New Jersey and 9 other states banned dual-currency sweepstakes casinos, and industry revenue is estimated to have dropped from $4.6B to $3.6B (lines.com, citing Bettors Insider). The card-pack model is "buy merchandise, open blind boxes," which falls outside the casino regulatory framework, and it caught the Pokémon and sports-card pack-opening wave at the same time. Casino operators splitting out a pack-opening app at this moment looks like them finding a second leg (inference). But Crown Rips itself can't be played in 8 states (jpost), so compliance risk hasn't been avoided.

### If it were you

**In one line** : don't copy it. Its fuel is an old player base from a casino rated 150k and a shared wallet, which you won't have. In the US, the card-pack category is already crowded with VC-backed companies, DFS giants and retail chains.

**Who it suits** : companies that already have a large pool of users willing to pay to chase luck, such as social casinos, DFS, gacha games and live-streaming gift platforms. Following its playbook, you split the new mechanic into a standalone app that shares the wallet and identity verification, so the cold-start cost is close to zero.

**Who it doesn't suit** : indie developers without an existing user pool. This business requires physical card inventory, identity verification and withdrawals, state-by-state legal review, and competing for the same people as Triumph, which raised tens of millions and buys users every day.

**How to do it (if you must)** : don't go broad across the US. Pick an angle the big US players haven't covered: a single card type (a specific anime TCG, sports cards from one country), or a market outside the US where pack-opening interest is rising and no local player exists yet. Borrow the slogan, and pick a number you can compare directly (buyback rate, top-card odds) as your selling point. The most common complaints in reviews are opaque odds and slow withdrawals, so publishing pack-opening history, real pull rates and withdrawal timelines is ready-made differentiation.

**How to acquire users** : give both inviter and invitee a free pack; post in Reddit's invite-code threads and Facebook pack-opening groups; have mid-tier creators stream pack openings with commission codes. TikTok throttles this kind of content, so don't count on it.

**When to move** : the window for this category in the US has basically closed. If you go to another market, the best time is before local leaders emerge there or regulators take a position, roughly six months to a year (estimate).

**Signs we're wrong** : ① within six months, a small team with no casino or big-company backing gets a card-pack app above a 50k rating on US iOS and holds it, showing you can squeeze in from zero; ② conversely, a state explicitly classifies pack opening as gambling, or Apple tightens App Store rules for these apps, and the whole category has to be re-evaluated.

## Why Crown Rips (iOS 6792483403) got traction

> In one line: Crown Rips is a "digital card-pack opening + physical card shipping / buyback" app spun out by Sunflower Ltd. (Israeli-backed), operator of the top US sweepstakes social casino CrownCoins Casino. It isn't a pioneer of the new category; it's a late entrant in the 2026 "card rips" wave. It gained traction through two things: old players and affiliate media from its parent casino, and "invite codes for free packs" borrowed from CrownCards and Rips by Triumph. Compared with its peers, its numbers are still small.

### 1. What the data says

| Metric | Value | Source |
|---|---|---|
| iOS launch | 2026-08-23 (Shopping, subcategory Entertainment, 17+) | iTunes lookup |
| Android launch | 2026-08-07(com.crownrips.app) | googleplay library |
| iOS ratings | 10/28 657 → 11/06 1,060 (+61%), +344 over the last 7 days; daily adds rose from 13 to 69 | appstore library app_day |
| iOS ranking | Only on the US Shopping Top Free chart, ranking #97–#137,11/06 is 117; not on the overall or Top Grossing charts | appstore library |
| iOS average rating | 4.71 (1,089 ratings, 11/06 lookup) | iTunes lookup |
| Android installs | 121,826, +20,884 over the last 7 days; rating 1,552 | Google Play library (2026-11-06) |
| parent CrownCoins Casino (iOS) | rating 146,821, daily adds 250–470; US Shopping Top Free #4–#8 | appstore library |

**Takeaway** : Android volume is clearly larger than iOS (120k installs, versus about 1 thousand ratings on iOS), suggesting users mostly arrive from web pages, affiliate links or invite links, and download the app just to top up and open packs, not via App Store search. The iOS average is 4.71, yet a large share of written reviews are 1 stars, a big gap. The update notes say "Enjoying Crown Rips? Leave a review!", which likely means an in-app prompt asks happy users only for a star rating. This is inference, not verified.

### 2. Competitors: a category already crowded

From 2025 to 2026, digital card-pack opening with physical card buyback (card rips) took off in the US. TheLines' rankings list more than 13 players, and Covers says more than 20 (thelines.com/card-rips, covers.com/betting/card-rips). Our US iOS data for the same category (2026-11-06, appstore / googleplay libraries):

| Product | Platform | Launched | Scale | How it differs from Crown Rips |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rips by Triumph | iOS / Android | 2025-10(iOS) | iOS rating 255,752,7 days +7,965, Shopping Top Free #9; Play 1.82M installs, +90k over 7 days | category leader, VC-backed (raised over $14.1M, rotowire); heavy paid acquisition (admapix estimates 6B impressions) |
| CrownCards | iOS / Android | 2026-06-03(iOS) | iOS rating 27,893,7 days +2,978; Play 425k installs, +55k over 7 days | closest name match, but a different company (developer CrownCards, targeting US operations). Sells PSA-graded cards, with ambassador / creator commission programs |
| Packz | iOS | 2026-03 | rating 25,032,7 days +1,844 | listed under Games; #1 on affiliate rankings (90% buyback) |
| Tilt Rips | iOS | 2026-06 | rating 13,530,7 days +1,389 | only Pokémon / TCG |
| PrizePicks(Packs) | iOS | feature added to an older app | rating 510k, #1 in Sports | a DFS giant added $1 pack openings, with an existing user base |
| Underdog(Rips) | iOS | feature added to an older app | rating 330k, #2 in Sports | same as above, a DFS giant's feature |
| Courtyard | iOS / Android / web | 2025-07(iOS) | iOS rating 9,222; Play 630k installs | on-chain NFT custody and graded cards, collectibles-focused |
| Fanatics Collect / Fanatics Live(Instant Rips) | iOS | 2021 | iOS rating 9,347 | has card rights-holder resources |
| Arena Club | iOS | 2024-06 | Ratings 7,416 | Plush-cat, sports-card-rip-collector style |
| MyPrize | iOS / web | 2025-09 | Ratings 2,439 | another sweepstakes platform, from $1, creator livestream pack openings |
| Fast Rips | iOS | 2026-08-17 | rating 472,7 days +277 | Small player in the same wave as Crown Rips |
| Phygitals | iOS | 2026-07 | Ratings 725 | On-chain focus |
| GameStop Power Packs | Web | 2026-04 | Not verified | Retail giants move in |

In this table, Crown Rips (1,060,7-day score +344) sits in the lower half of the iOS chart, with about 1/23 Triumph's incremental volume and 1/9 CrownCards'.

### 3. Where users come from (growth levers)

1. **Traffic from the parent CrownCoins Casino's existing players (confirmed)** : Crown Rips started as an in-app feature test inside CrownCoins. 2026-07-27 opened it to 500 randomly picked legacy accounts, each getting 5 SC (lines.com, covers.com). It officially launched in August: buying a CC coin pack gave you a Rips pack, and the Cash Balance you pulled could be spent in Crown Bingo / CrownCoins (rg.org 2026-08-17). Only later was it split into a standalone app: Play 8/7, iOS 8/23. One user review reads: "now that there is a stand alone app outside of CrownCoins Casino" (App Store review 10/20). CrownCoins ranks second in US sweepstakes search demand (2026-07 holds 15.21%, per lines.com citing Blask), and its US iOS rating count is close to 150k. That is a ready-made user pool.

2. **Invite codes for free packs (confirmed)** : New users who sign up through an invite link get $15–25 in free packs; some listings say "deposit $20 and get up to $100 in packs." Several threads on r/referralcodes, and people in Facebook pack-opening groups post codes too (BLUERAIN and others). Same play as CrownCards and Triumph: users hop between several apps farming new-user packs.

3. **Casino affiliate media (confirmed)** : rg.org, lines.com, covers.com, strafe.com and jpost (sponsored piece, 2026-10-11 lists it among "5 platforms to rip packs online") have all written about it. These sites are CrownCoins affiliates, and their articles carry promo links tagged utm_source=affiliates_seo.

4. **Owned social (confirmed)** : Facebook @crownrips has about 96k followers; Instagram @crownripsofficial has about 55k followers and 103 posts; there is also r/CrownRips. Creator promotion shows up in scattered form (Instagram reels saying "use my code to get a free Pokémon pack"), but no big accounts.

5. **TikTok / X (almost none)** : A TikHub search for "crown rips" returns no videos, and the @crownrips account has only 281 followers and doesn't look official. x-radar shows no mentions in the last 90 days. Gambling-adjacent content is restricted on TikTok, so this result makes sense.

6. **Paid acquisition (unverified)** : Our Meta Ad Library did not track this Page, so we can't say whether it has run paid ads.

### IV. Why it took off

- **The parent supplied users, money and a compliance framework** : CrownCoins, run by Sunflower Ltd., is one of the top two US sweepstakes casinos. Crown Rips launched with payments, KYC and withdrawals already in place, and a pool of players who accept the "deposit, gamble on luck, withdraw" loop.

- **Timing: states are banning sweepstakes, so operators are looking for a second leg** : Over 2026 years, California, New York, New Jersey and more than 9 other states have passed laws banning dual-currency sweepstakes, and industry revenue is estimated to have fallen from $4.6B to $3.6B (lines.com, citing Bettors Insider). Pack opening is a "buy a product, open a blind box" structure, which carries different compliance risk from a casino, and the Pokémon and sports card pack-opening boom was at its peak at the same time. Crown Rips is also unavailable in 8 states (jpost), so it is not a full escape. Calling it a second leg hedging against the bans is an inference.

- **Copying proven plays from the category** : Thrill Level odds tiers, a 100% FMV buyback (most rivals offer 85–90%), Vault auto-sell, packs starting at $1 (initial minimum $25, now listed as $1–$3000 on the site), plus invite-for-packs. These are rivals' proven mechanics, pushed harder, not original inventions.

### 5. What the differentiation is, and whether it explains the breakout

- **Differentiation in the messaging** : "No dead pulls" (every pack has value) and a "100% fair market value" buyback, which is higher than Packz / Repackz / Fanatics at 90% and Slabz at 85%. An adjustable "Thrill Level" volatility setting is also a selling point.

- **The real differentiation is behind the scenes** : It is a casino operator's pack-opening product, sharing Cash Balance with CrownCoins / Crown Bingo, with coin-pack purchases including pack openings, so it can route casino users straight in. Other pack-opening apps (Triumph, CrownCards) have to buy traffic from scratch.

- **Was this what drove the growth?** The buyback promise at 100% is not the main reason. User reviews mostly complain about bad odds, slow withdrawals, and having to provide bank statements and ID. On the other side, some say "I've spent more on CrownCards, Triumph and Tilt, but the best pull came here." What really pushed it up was parent-app traffic and invite-for-packs. It has only four-digit iOS ratings and sits in the lower half of its category, so strictly speaking it hasn't broken out yet.

### 6. How many people see it

- Revenue is not public. TrustMRR and the founders have not shared numbers.

- It has been repeatedly covered by gambling-industry affiliate media (rg.org, lines.com, covers.com, Strafe, sponsored jpost pieces). Mainstream tech media and big X accounts have not written about it.

- **The category itself is widely discussed and very crowded** : Affiliate sites have dedicated "Best Card Rip Sites" rankings updated daily; DFS giants (PrizePicks, Underdog), retail giants (GameStop) and Fanatics have all entered.

### VII. What to take away

- Companies with an existing high-LTV user base (casinos, DFS, social betting) split new mechanics into standalone apps that share wallets and KYC, so cold-start costs are close to zero.

- In a crowded field, pick the single easiest number to compare (a 100% buyback versus rivals' 90%) as your slogan, then spread through the deal-hunting community with "both sides get free packs" invites.

- Android installs are two orders of magnitude above iOS ratings: for a compliance-sensitive product, the web and Android sideloading may be the real battleground.

### 8. What's still uncertain

- Whether Meta / Google paid acquisition was used: not tracked, unverified.

- Whether iOS 4.71's high rating was driven by in-app review prompts: inference.

- The revenue scale of the standalone app, and how it splits with CrownCoins: unknown.

- Whether pack opening will be regulated as gambling by states: a risk, direction undecided.

- Whether CrownCards and Sunflower are related: based on developer names and websites they look like separate companies, but this is not fully ruled out.
