# "A thousand times better than Spotify, just not sure how long it'll last": an iPhone player a Brazilian used to download music for free

**What it is** A free iPhone music player. The description says it plays files you import, but users are actually using it to download music for offline listening for free, earning from ads and a weekly subscription.

**Why it's trending** iPhone users in Brazil and Latin America don't want to pay Spotify. When apps like Musi got pulled, people kept searching the store for alternatives. iSound retitled itself in Portuguese and Spanish as an "offline music player", and those searches caught it.

**D** **How you could follow** Don't copy the downloading. What you can borrow is the legitimate part: adjust store titles by country to catch local search terms, pick less crowded categories, and build a proper tool with interstitial ads plus a weekly subscription.

Grade D: the demand is real, but the category already has dozens of identical-template apps, and iSound is only mid-to-low in it. It survives on a mismatch between its description and what it actually does, and could be pulled by Apple or hit with copyright complaints at any time. Following it isn't worth it. Few people know about it yet

On the App Store, iSound describes itself as a local music player: import your own files and play them offline. But users in Brazil and Mexico write about something else in their reviews: searching for songs inside it, downloading them, and watching an ad before each one. It launched only at the end of July, the developer is a personal account with just this one app, and it currently sits at #98 on Brazil's Entertainment Top Free chart. It isn't special in itself. What's worth looking at is the category it belongs to: Latin American iPhone users don't want to pay for Spotify, and they keep looking in the store for apps that let them download music for free. These apps go up in batches and come down in batches, and the cycle never stops.

### A five-star review

On Sep 22, a Brazilian user gave iSound five stars under the title "Sensacional":

> Gente mil vezes melhor que Spotify! Ele realmente cumpre com o que promete. Só não sei até quando! (Folks, a thousand times better than Spotify! It really delivers on what it promises. Just not sure how long it'll last!)

"Not sure how long it'll last" is a line anyone who uses these apps understands: it works because Apple hasn't noticed yet. An Oct 4 four-star review put the actual usage more bluntly: "A única coisa ruim é que pra baixar qualquer musica vem um anuncio de 3 minutos" (The only bad thing is that downloading any song means watching a 3-minute ad). Over in Mexico, someone wrote on Sep 28: "He podido descargar música de Billie y de Sabrina y todo OK" (I managed to download music by Billie and Sabrina, and everything was fine). Billie Eilish and Sabrina Carpenter, downloaded, all good (App Store reviews, read on 11-06).

The store description never mentions downloading. It only says "import from Files, Photos, Google Drive, Dropbox, or transfer over Wi-Fi".

### What it is

A free iPhone music player, credited to developer Roman Kuptsov, whose account originally held only this one app. The features are the category standard: import, playlists, equalizer, playback speed, sleep timer. The app itself has only an English interface, but the title changes by country: in Brazil it's "iSound - Leitor Música Offline", in Spanish-speaking regions "iSound: Reproductor Música MP3", and elsewhere "iSound - Music Player Offline".

Money comes from two places: ads that pop up everywhere, and a Premium subscription (R$5,90 weekly, R$54,90 for three months, per the Brazilian App Store page, 11-06). The privacy labels list location, device ID, and usage data as "used to track you" for third-party advertising. The developer site and privacy policy sit on a free subdomain. In Nov 5, the same account published a second app, "Conversor MP3: Vídeo em Áudio" (video to MP3). One-off personal accounts, free domains, and apps released one after another is standard practice in this space. Which country the developer is in isn't clear; the domain clues point to Eastern Europe (inference, not verified).

How the downloading actually works (which source it pulls from, or whether it's switched on remotely after review) hasn't been tested, so it's unknown.

### How much it actually grew

Not much. Released in Jul 29, updated Sep 18 to 1.2.3, and no updates since. Every version note reads "Bugs fixes".

| Store | Ratings (11-06) | New in the last 7 days | Entertainment Top Free rank |
|---|---|---|---|
| Brazil | 398 | 73 | 98 (recently between 88–141) |
| Mexico | 168 | 22 | 166 (recently between 139–209) |
| Angola, Azerbaijan, Barbados, Guyana, and a dozen more small storefronts | 0–23 | 0–5 | 41–150 |

From launch to late October, Brazil averaged about 3.5 new ratings per day, rising to 10–16 per day in November, so it's accelerating, but from a small base. Its ranks in those small storefronts look high, but they have almost no local ratings, and those charts have low thresholds, so a few downloads can get an app on them (inference). It has never entered the Top Grossing chart in any storefront.

### Where users come from

**App Store search.** This is the most certain lead. An app with an English-only interface localizes its title for Brazil into Portuguese, "Leitor Música Offline" (offline music player), and for the Spanish-speaking stores into "Reproductor Música MP3", to catch the searches those users type in the App Store. Its ratings are also almost all concentrated in Brazil and Mexico.

**TikTok "free music app" recommendations.** This kind of video is everywhere: in Mexico, @adonismateotech's Oct 27 post "how to listen to music on your phone without a subscription" has 439k views; @gussjardon's Sep 8 video "you're still paying Spotify? there's a completely free one on the App Store" has 85k views; the English account @iphonemusichacks posts almost daily, and one from June this year has 1.65M views (TikTok, 11-06). But these videos push other apps like Cloud Music, LUX, and Wimbi. I found no video pushing iSound. Users have been taught by these videos to "search the store," and whatever they find is what they get; iSound is one of the apps that got found (inferred).

**Paid acquisition.** I found no records of it advertising on Meta, Google, or TikTok (no records found doesn't mean it didn't). It has never charted in the top grossing lists and monetizes only through ads, which doesn't fit large-scale paid acquisition. It likely buys little or nothing, at most some Apple Search Ads (unverified).

There is also no media coverage, and no one is discussing it on X.

### Why now

The demand has been there all along. Many iPhone users in Brazil and Latin America want to listen to popular songs for free and offline. Spotify's free tier doesn't allow offline downloads on iPhone, and after long-running free music apps like Musi were pulled 2024 years ago, these users have kept switching between replacements in the store. There are still TikTok videos saying "eSound stopped working after an update, try this instead" (2026 January).

iSound did three things right: it described itself as a local player so it passed review; it actually let users download songs, which is what they really wanted; and it localized its title by country so it could be found. Users were willing to sit through 3 minutes of ads for each song, and that is where the ad revenue comes from. A four-star review from Nov 1 even defended it: "the ads are fair, each one is very short."

But to be clear: **iSound itself didn't break out. The category did.**

### Who it's competing with

Lots. 11-06 In the Brazil App Store Music Top Free chart's top 100, there are over twenty indie apps with offline, mp3, or reprodutor in their names, most of them charted since 2025–2026.

| Competitors | Launched | Scale (Brazil, 11-06) | Compared with iSound |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lark Music Player: Offline mp3 | 2026-09 | 727 ratings, +357 in 7 days, #4 on the free Music chart | Launched two months later, growing 5 times as fast as iSound |
| Reprodutor de Música - Runo | 2026-02 | 11,391 ratings, #6 on the Music chart | Same approach, about 30 times its size |
| Música Offline: Play Mp3 | 2023-09 | 36,774 ratings | Long-running; reviews explicitly say "downloads are fast" |
| Reprodutor de música(Petko kochev) | 2023-01 | 182k ratings worldwide, listed in 64 stores | The widest reach of the group |
| Música Offline - Tocador MP3 | 2024-01 | 5,076 ratings | Some regional listings also call it "iSound" in English, a name clash |
| Lyra: Player de Música, eSound | 2025-06 | 3,663 ratings | Title directly piggybacks on eSound |
| Spotify free tier, YouTube Music, Audiomack, Palco MP3 | Early on | Spotify is #1 on the Brazil free Music chart | Legitimate and licensed, but offline downloads require payment or are restricted, and this type of app exploits that gap |

iSound sits in the middle-to-lower tier. Its name clashes with at least two other apps, its features match everyone else's, and it is filed under Entertainment rather than Music. That helps it avoid head-on competition, but it is not why it grew.

### If it were you

**D** : understand it, don't copy it. The demand is real and the money is probably coming in, but the category is already crowded, and survival depends on "describe one thing, build another." App removal and copyright complaints could come at any time, and users themselves say "not sure how long this lasts."

**Who it's for** : people studying App Store search traffic, localized titles, and ad monetization in Latin America, using it as a low-cost observation sample.

**Who it's not for** : anyone who wants to build a product that lasts and accumulates users; anyone unwilling to face removal and copyright risk; anyone who thinks a player template alone will bring in volume (there are already dozens of apps built on the same template, and iSound itself is only mid-to-lower tier).

**If you do build, how** : take only the compliant parts. What's actually worth borrowing is the method: localize the store title by country to catch local search terms, test one country per account, pick a category with less competition, and combine interstitial ads with a weekly subscription to collect money. Apply this to legitimate tools (a real local player, licensed free content, podcasts or audiobooks), not to downloading songs.

**How to get users** : mainly store search. Use the words locals actually search for in their titles and subtitles (Portuguese, Spanish). There are many TikTok "free music app" recommendation accounts, and paying them to recommend your app is likely cheaper than running your own ads (inferred).

**When to get in** : there is no window here. Apps like this have always been launching, and always getting pulled.

**What would show I got it wrong** : ① iSound and Lark, which launched at the same time, are still charting half a year later and Apple hasn't touched this category, which would mean removal risk is smaller than I estimated and this gray business is more stable than I assumed; ② if someone builds a fully compliant local player that relies only on localized titles and reaches several thousand ratings in Brazil, it would show the compliant half works on its own and is worth reassessing.

Where users come from

- **Confirmed** **App Store search ASO (title localized by country)** : the app's interface is EN only, but its title is localized by storefront: Brazil uses Leitor Música Offline, Spanish-speaking storefronts use Reproductor Música MP3; traffic concentrated in Brazil and Mexico; a group of similar competitors exists

- Inferred **TikTok recommendations for "free offline music apps" (category level)** : several @iphonemusichacks and other videos have over a million views, pushing Cloud Music, Tempail, and other similar apps; searches for iSound-related terms found no video recommending it

- Inferred **Paid acquisition** : no records in the metaads, googleads, or tiktokads libraries (it is not on the tracking list); it never charted in top grossing, which doesn't fit large-scale paid acquisition

- Inferred **Small-storefront chart pushing** : #41–51 on the free category charts in storefronts like bb, gy, az, and ao, but local rating counts are only 0–23; these storefronts have very low bars, so it isn't necessarily deliberate spending

## iSound - Leitor Música Offline (ios_6792702963) research report

> Storefronts checked: full sweep of the appstore library (this app appeared in only 18 storefronts, all on the Entertainment free category chart), with focus on Brazil (br) and Mexico (mx); no us chart records. Data as of 2026-11-06.

### One line

It's a "free music / download app dressed up as a local player." The store description only says "import your own files and play offline," but user reviews from Brazil and Mexico say "you download songs in it," "you watch 3 minutes of ads before each download," and "a thousand times better than Spotify, just not sure how long it lasts." It works because iPhone users in Brazil and Latin America don't want to pay Spotify, and since free music apps like Musi were pulled, they have kept searching "música offline" in the App Store for replacements. These apps launch and get pulled one after another, and iSound is just the latest new listing: it uses a localized title to win store search and monetizes with interstitial ads. The product itself has no real differentiation.

### 1. Data (appstore library)

- First launched 2026-07-29, developer Roman Kuptsov (individual account, id 6792702965), bundle `com.player.thebest`. The App's UI language is EN only, but the titles are localized by store: Brazil shows "iSound - Leitor Música Offline", Spanish-language stores show "iSound: Reproductor Música MP3", and the rest show "iSound - Music Player Offline".

- Versions: 1.0 (7-29) → 1.1 (8-10) → 1.2 (8-15) → 1.2.1 (8-22) → 1.2.2 (8-27) → 1.2.3 (9-18). No updates since. Every release note is just "Bugs fixes" (App Store Brazil page).

- Ratings: the data card shows 645 total across all stores (11-06), but the "surge" from 10-28 to 10-31 (44 → 530) is mostly caused by Brazil (10-31 entered the database for the first time, already carrying 325 reviews) and Mexico (10-30 entered for the first time) being added to scraping. It is not real growth. The real growth rate is in Brazil: 330 (11-01) → 398 (11-06), +10–16 per day. Mexico went 150 → 168, +1–5 per day. From launch to 10-31, Brazil averaged about 3.5 reviews a day, and about 13 in November. **It is accelerating, but from a very small base** .

- Rankings: Brazil Entertainment free chart #88–141 (11-06 is #98), Mexico #139–209. It ranks #41–51 in small storefronts like Barbados, Guyana, Azerbaijan and Angola, but those markets have only 0–23 local ratings. Charting in these markets takes very few downloads, so this is not necessarily deliberate paid push (inference).

- It has never charted in any store's Top Grossing. The store page shows ads, and in-app purchases are Premium Weekly R$5,90 and Premium 3 Months R$54,90 (App Store Brazil page, 11-06).

- Privacy labels: location, device ID and usage data are all marked "used to track you", with the purpose listed as third-party advertising (App Store Brazil page).

- The developer website and privacy policy sit on the free subdomain ios-player.work.gd. 2026-11-05 The same account also published a second App, "Conversor MP3: Vídeo em Áudio" (com.converter.mp4mp3, Music category), with the site converter-ios.pp.ua. .pp.ua is a free Ukrainian domain. This is a classic one-off personal account plus template playbook. The developer is probably in Eastern Europe (not verified).

### 2. What it actually is: the reviews say something different from the description

Reviews from Brazil and Mexico (Apple review RSS, 11-06 scrape: 16 from Brazil, 4 from Mexico):

- "A única coisa ruim é que pra baixar qualquer musica vem um anuncio de 3 minutos" (The only bad thing is that downloading any song brings up a 3-minute ad first). br, 10-04,4 stars

- "Gente mil vezes melhor que Spotify! Ele realmente cumpre com o que promete. Só não sei até quando!" (A thousand times better than Spotify! It really delivers on what it promises. Just don't know for how long!). br, 09-22

- "puedo descargar música fácil" / "He podido descargar música de Billie y de Sabrina y todo OK" (I can easily download music / I downloaded Billie and Sabrina songs and everything worked). mx, 09-28, 10-29

- The negative reviews focus on ads: "A cada clique em um botão ou uma música é um anúncio diferente" (every click on a button or song brings up a different ad), "Pessimo app tem muito anúncio" (terrible app, too many ads).

Conclusion: the description only mentions "import from files / photos / Google Drive / Dropbox / Wi-Fi", but users are actually **searching for songs and downloading them** (likely pulling from a source like YouTube, or switched on remotely after review). Users come for "free, offline pop music". Similar apps have the same reviews: "Música Offline: Play Mp3" has reviews saying "baixa as músicas muito rápido" (songs download very fast), and Lark and Runo reviews are almost all complaints about ads. This is a shared playbook of a whole grey-zone category, not something unique to iSound.

### 3. Competitors (all similar apps on the Brazil App Store, appstore database 11-06)

| Product | Launched | Scale (Brazil ratings / Brazil 7-day gain / best Brazil category rank) | How it differs from iSound |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lark Music Player: Offline mp3(Aditya Nair) | 2026-09-21 | 727 / +357 / Music #4; all stores 3,377 reviews, +7 over 1,317 days | Launched two months after iSound, growing at 5× its rate; sits in Music |
| Reprodutor de Música - Runo (Junhao Zhang) | 2026-02-23 | 11,391 / +326 / Music #6 | Same playbook, done for longer and at larger scale |
| Música Offline: Play Mp3 (Zhihui Li) | 2023-09 | 36,774 / +263 / Utilities #105 | Long-running; reviews explicitly say downloads work |
| Reprodutor de música(Petko kochev) | 2023-01 | 13,320 / +141; all stores 182k reviews | Covers 64 stores, the largest footprint |
| Música Offline - Tocador MP3(Serhii Toritsyn) | 2024-01 | 5,076 / +132 / Music #23 | In some stores its English description also calls it "iSound", so the names clash |
| Lyra: Player de Música, eSound(Nadia Ferrari) | 2025-06 | 3,663 / +107 / Music #30 | Title directly piggybacks on the eSound name |
| Music Player, Listen Offline(kaygun celik) | 2025-11 | 429 / +90 / Music #10 | Roughly the same size as iSound |
| Player MP3 Música "Music X Pro & Musi" / Musica offline-Amerigo Sound | 2026-03 | Not in the Brazil database | Appears in iSound's "You may also like", title piggybacks on Musi |
| Legitimate free options: Audiomack, Spotify free tier, YouTube Music, Palco MP3, Sua Música | 2009–2016 | Spotify ranks #1 on Brazil's Music free chart; Audiomack 19,329 / +200 | Official services are licensed, but offline downloads are paid or restricted. That gap is exactly what grey-zone apps exploit. |
| Musi, eSound (the old benchmarks) | — | Musi was pulled from the store in 2024 September (public reporting, not re-verified this time). TikTok has videos saying "eSound stopped working after an update, try this instead" (@_lyndaoliver, 2026-01). | These users came over from apps that were pulled |

In the top 100 of Brazil's Music free chart, more than twenty apps with "offline / mp3 / reprodutor" in the name come from individual developers. Most launched in 2025–2026 and are signed by individuals with Chinese names. **This is a crowded re-skin category** , and iSound is a small player in it.

### 4. Growth tactics

- **Store search (ASO), almost certainly** : the titles are localized by country (Leitor Música Offline / Reproductor Música MP3), targeting search terms like "música offline" and "reproductor mp3". The App has one build and EN-only UI, yet it has dedicated Portuguese and Spanish titles, so its traffic is clearly from search. It sits in Entertainment, ranking alongside a pile of IPTV players, rather than competing head-on with dozens of rivals in Music. This is an observation only; it doesn't prove the category choice brought more traffic.

- **Word of mouth and "alternative" demand: there is evidence, but it doesn't point to iSound itself** . TikTok has many videos recommending "free offline music apps for iPhone" (@iphonemusichacks has several with over a million views; @joshuatecn has 210k views; @rk_grau recommends Tempail with 50k views). But searching TikHub for "iSound" related terms **found no video recommending it** .

- **No paid acquisition found** : the metaads, googleads and tiktokads libraries have no record of Roman Kuptsov or this App (it isn't on the tracked list, so the lack of results doesn't rule out spending). It isn't on the grossing charts and monetizes through ads, which doesn't match heavy paid acquisition. Inference: little or no paid buying, maybe a small Apple Search Ads spend (not verified).

- **Regional chart squatting** : a dozen-plus regional stores have it at #41–210 on the Top Free chart, but local ratings are nearly 0. Those stores have low barriers anyway, so there's no need to force it (inferred).

- X / Reddit / press: an x-radar search for "iSound" over the past 60 days returned one unrelated result. A Jina web search only found store mirror sites (foxdata, appstoretracker, similarweb auto-generated pages), no coverage at all.

### 5. Why it took off

1. **The demand is already there** : many iPhone users in Brazil and Latin America want to listen to pop music for free and offline without paying for Spotify Premium. After Musi and eSound were pulled or stopped working, these users kept searching the store for replacements. Reviews like "a thousand times better than Spotify" and "don't know for how long" state the motive directly.

2. **Described as a local player, but it actually downloads songs** : it passed Apple review while still meeting the real need to download songs. Users will sit through 3 minutes of ads to get the next song, and that is how the ad revenue comes back.

3. **Store search through localized titles** : it captured search traffic in Brazil and Mexico, and a single account was enough to get it moving.

4. It is just another account in the same category. Lark (launched September) is growing at 5× its rate, and Runo and Música Offline are 30–90× its size. **iSound itself never broke out, but the category keeps running.**

### 6. Differentiation

Almost nothing. The features (import, equalizer, playback speed, sleep timer, Wi-Fi transfer) are the standard template for this category. The name "iSound" clashes with other apps (Serhii Toritsyn's app is called iSound in some stores, and Ly Thi Hong has "iSound: Música & Mp3 Offline"). Its size is mid-to-low within the category. The only difference is that it sits in Entertainment as a small account, but that is not why it grew. It grew on category demand plus search traffic, not differentiation.

### 7. Visibility and copycats

- Visibility: **few people know about it yet** . No press coverage, no discussion on X, no disclosed revenue, only auto-generated pages on store-data mirror sites. The category itself is widely recommended on TikTok, though, and it is already crowded.

- Copycats: no one is specifically copying iSound, and it is a copycat itself. The same developer 11-05 just launched a second App (MP3 converter) and is expanding a portfolio.

### 8. What to borrow

- The "compliant description, grey-area function in practice, plus an ad wall" model makes money fast but can be pulled at any time. Users themselves say "don't know how long it will last". This model is **not worth copying** ; the risks are Apple takedowns and copyright complaints.

- The compliant parts are worth borrowing: localize titles by country, test one country's search demand with a single account, place the app in a less competitive category, and combine interstitial ads with a weekly subscription (R$5,90 / week) for two revenue streams.

### 9. Uncertain

- How the song-download feature works (YouTube integration, a cloud-drive connection, or a remote switch). Not tested.

- Whether Apple Search Ads is used: no public data.

- Revenue: it has never charted in grossing, and the ad revenue is completely unknown.

- Who the developer is and what country they are in: the only clues are the free domains (.work.gd / .pp.ua).

- No daily rating curve for Brazil before 10-31 (the database only starts tracking Brazil at 10-31), so the point where it started to take off is unclear.
