> This wasn't word of mouth; it was paid acquisition. From September they ran videos with tens of millions of views from self-operated 'obsessed puzzle-girl' accounts. Starting Oct 27, they pushed dozens to hundreds of new creatives a day in Europe, running both the mystery-solving and romance angles. Targeting cheap small English-speaking markets like Ireland and New Zealand pushed it into the top ten of the overall free chart.

# Going through a missing girl's phone: Peekie used TikTok ads to break into the top ten of small English-speaking store charts, while its comment section recommends rivals

**What it is** A mystery game where you go through a stranger's phone (chats, photos, maps) to solve a missing-person case, plus interactive romance stories with an AI character living on the phone, sold on a weekly subscription.

**Why it took off** Not word of mouth, but paid acquisition: starting in September, it ran videos from self-run "obsessed with mystery games" accounts with tens of millions of views. From Oct 27 onward it posted dozens to hundreds of new creatives a day across Europe, running the detective and romance angles together, and chose cheap small English-speaking markets like Ireland and New Zealand to break into the top ten of the free overall chart.

**C** **How you could follow** Don't build another copy in English. If you want to follow, pick a major non-English language, use AI to cut the content cost per case, make the first case free and sell later cases, and cold-start with persona accounts plus Spark Ads.

Grade C: the demand is real and the playbook is clear, but the English market already has a leader with 260k ratings and a rival 15 times its size. Peekie itself only reached the 20s-30s on the Entertainment Top Grossing chart through paid acquisition, and users complain about the price and the AI, so copying it isn't a great bet. Hardly anyone knows about it yet

Peekie lets you break into a stranger's "phone" to solve a missing-person case, and the 2.0 version adds AI romance stories with a man living in your phone. It launched in August, the gameplay is a decade-old genre with plenty of competitors, and it grew by saturating TikTok with ads, reaching #7 on the free overall chart in Ireland and New Zealands by late October. It shows the category can still be bought into, but it doesn't say you should jump in now.

### A 1,418-follower account, one 11.2M-view video

On Sep 12 2026, the TikTok account "Mia 🕵🏼‍♀️" (@investigatewithmia) posted a video captioned only: "Found a new game called Peekie and I cannot stop playing 👀." By Nov 6, that video had 11.2M views and 187k likes, and a Sep 5 video from a week earlier, "Girls, this game!! 😮," had 10.5M views.

But that account has only 1,418 followers, its bio reads "Become a real detective with Peekie!", and it has posted 70 videos, almost all about Peekie. Millions of views with only a thousand-plus followers and a few hundred comments doesn't look like organic virality. It looks more like a brand running ordinary videos as Spark Ads (ads boosted from regular posts) through its own accounts (inferred).

The comment section is more revealing. The most-liked comment (763 likes) says: "Guys download elmwood its so fun and its free" (go download Elmwood, it's fun and free). Scrolling down: "it makes you pay eventually," "not for 14$ a month im not," "I'm sorry £12.99 a month - ye ok 😅," and someone exposed the setup: "It only lets you play until about the 6rd task of each case, then you have to subscribe to finish the story."

That's the full picture of Peekie: the ads work, but the product and pricing lose part of the audience, and its rivals get recommended in its own comment section.

### What it is

A "world inside your phone." When you open the app, you get a stranger's phone: chats, photos, social posts, maps, and voice memos. You dig through them for clues about where a missing girl went. The first line of the store page reads: "Every phone has a story. Step inside."

Version 2.0 adds a second line: AI interactive romance stories where you message characters on your phone, feel the flutter, and make choices. The name also changed from "Crime Mystery Games" to the current "Stories & Choices" (several stores, like Jordan and Egypt, still show the old name "Stories & Mysteries").

The developer is listed as Intelli Future INC on iOS; the TikTok advertiser is INTELLIFUTURE LIMITED, registered in Hong Kong. On Android the developer name is PopPark.AI, and a team with the same name also makes an AI game generator (inferred to be the same people; no company-level evidence obtained).

Monetization: free up front, then a subscription paywall at a key clue. Weekly $9.99, monthly $14.99, yearly $34.99, plus credit packs from $2.99 to $39.99 (App Store page).

### How big it is

Small, but growing.

- Released on iOS in Aug 6. Global ratings went from 893 at 10-28 to 1,278 at 11-06; daily new ratings rose from 5 at 10-29 to 32–36 at 11-03–11-05; charted countries went from 14 to 36 (App Store, 11-06).

- Best ranks are in small English-speaking markets: New Zealand and Ireland peaked at #7 on the free overall chart and #1 in Entertainment free; the UK and Canada hit the Entertainment chart at 20; the US only reached #97–141 in Entertainment and is slipping.

- Released on Android in Sep 8, with 109k installs and +13.4k over the last 7 days, but only 3.2 stars (Google Play, 11-06). iOS US store: 4.6 stars.

- Revenue: it has never reached the top 100 of any country's overall Top Grossing chart. Its best Entertainment Top Grossing ranks were New Zealand #24, Ireland #30, and UK #58. It is taking money, but not much.

### Where users come from: TikTok ads, on two creative lines

Almost all of it is bought.

**Europe is the clearest picture.** In TikTok's public European ad library, INTELLIFUTURE LIMITED tested 12 creatives in mid-May and then stopped. It restarted in Oct 20 and scaled from Oct 27: that day it added 21 new creatives, 10-28 of them 70, 10-31 of them 90, and 11-03 of them 100. By 11-06 it had 586 visible in total, 96 running, targeting the UK and Ireland. Ireland climbed to #7 on the free overall chart in the same week the spend ramped. New Zealand also hit #7, which suggests it was also advertised there, though spend outside Europe isn't public, so it can't be seen.

**Non-European spend started earlier.** The two videos at the top with tens of millions of views were posted by September (comments are mostly quoting dollar and pound prices), more than a month before the European restart. Most comments were left in mid-to-late October, which suggests the video was still being pushed to new people in October. Similar accounts include @glau.games, with 2 followers and a video at 64k views saying "Starting to lose sleep over this game😳" (10-27). The official account @peekie.app has posted 458 videos, has 164 followers, and gets a hundred or two hundred views per post, so it exists to carry ads.

**Creatives run on two lines** , and this is the most instructive part:

- Mystery line: "Opened her phone for 5 minutes. Lost 3 hours." "Peekie is a mystery you solve by scrolling. Search a missing girl's real phone."

- Romance hook (pulling people into the AI story for 2.0): "Not me catching feelings for a man in my phone" "Why am I blushing at my phone like he can see me" "I downloaded it as a joke. Now I'm emotionally invested."

One app running two themes lets it target two audiences at once, real-case mysteries and "the man in my phone makes me flutter," roughly doubling the reachable pool. The differentiation mainly serves paid acquisition, not a product moat.

No ads or discussion for it were found on Google, Meta, X, or Reddit. Meta didn't match the page, so not finding it there doesn't mean it isn't advertised.

### Who it's competing with

The category has existed since 2016 with A Normal Lost Phone and Simulacra, and a new batch arrived in 2026. Peekie is neither the earliest nor the biggest.

| Product | Launched | Scale (US store ratings, 11-06) | Compared with Peekie |
|---|---|---|---|
| An Elmwood Trail | 2023-03 | 266k, all stores, +2,001 in 7 days | Category leader, hundreds of times bigger; commenters on its page recommend it unprompted as "free, not AI-made" |
| ColdTrace: Cold Case Mystery | 2026-05-31 | Charted in 6,640,47 stores | Same idea, about 15 times as big, two months earlier, pure mystery |
| Stalkie · Mobile Detective | 2026-01 | 2,919 | Indie developer, pure mystery |
| Snitchy / Leaked / SpyDiva / Last Seen | 2026-05 to 10 | Tens to a couple hundred | Same gameplay at a smaller scale; Snitchy's copy "Someone's missing. You've got their phone." is almost identical |
| Heyyyy: Stories that text back | 2026-04 | 4,796 | Only does AI character texting romance; the App Store lists it alongside Peekie |
| EMOCHI World: AI Story Chat | 2026-03 | 14k, all stores, +4,841 in 7 days | AI story chat, one order of magnitude bigger |

On the mystery side, ColdTrace and Elmwood are bigger; on the romance side, Heyyyy and EMOCHI are bigger. Peekie's only distinctive trait is putting both into one phone interface.

### What users say

Short positive review: "This is amazingly fun" (Australia, 5 stars, 11-01). Negative reviews almost all say the same thing: the paywall and ads are dishonest:

> "All the ads are extremely misleading and don't say anything about needed a subscription." (Canada, 1 stars, 10-28)

> "It seems fun at first but then it's just complete AI slop and you get completely stopped and have to pay to continue." (UK, 1 stars, 10-25)

Add the TikTok comments at the top ("Elmwood is free", "Sara is missing, it's free") and the picture is clear: many people who play this kind of game come for free puzzles, $9.99 a week is too expensive for them, and they can tell the content is AI-generated.

### If it were you

**Verdict** : Don't clone Peekie as another English-language "phone mystery." English already has a leader with 260k ratings, a same-period rival 15 times bigger, and a pile of copies. Even after buying hundreds of creatives, Peekie only reached the low twenties to thirties on Entertainment Top Grossing. What's worth taking are two things: using AI to mass-produce "one phone's worth of content" to drive down the cost of each case, and running two themes in one app with separate creative lines for each.

**Who it suits** : small teams who already run TikTok app ads and can do the subscription payback math; teams working in major non-English languages like Japanese, Korean, German, or Portuguese, who can write cases as local stories (local names, the look of local chat apps, local-news-style missing-person cases). Brazil already has Portuguese #Peekie recommendation videos, and this kind of content works in any language.

**Who it doesn't suit** : teams without ad budget who want to rely on organic traffic (organic traffic for this genre sits with Elmwood); anyone who can't handle comments calling it "AI slop" or a scam; anyone chasing long-term big revenue (in this wave, the similar titles haven't broken into the overall Top Grossing chart).

**How to build it** : structure the product like "one phone": messages, photos, posts, maps, recordings, with five or six tasks per case. Use AI to generate phone content, but have a person write the main storyline and key clues so it doesn't look like AI stitching at a glance. On monetization, don't copy its sudden weekly-subscription wall at task 6: give the first case free in full, then sell cases individually (around $2.99 each) or a cheap monthly pass. Some of the "only play if it's free" crowd will pay once to see how a story ends.

**How to get users** : run three to five accounts with the persona of "a girl addicted to puzzle games," posting first-person short videos like "found a game I can't stop playing"; promote the ones that perform as Spark Ads; test the mystery and romance creative lines separately. Pick one small market where paid acquisition is cheap and you understand the language, push into the top ten of the free overall chart, use those ranks to earn organic downloads, then expand into bigger markets.

**When to move** : there's no seasonality. But this category has new copies launching every month in 2026, so entering local-language markets early matters; the later you go, the more likely you hit rivals like ColdTrace that went multilingual first.

**What would show you're wrong** : ① After Peekie stops spending (TikTok new creatives drop from dozens a day to single digits), its ranks in Ireland and New Zealand fall together with its daily new ratings, which would mean this wave ran entirely on bought traffic and subscription revenue can't cover the spend; ② ColdTrace or Elmwood ship in the language you planned to target first; ③ The reverse: if Peekie breaks into the top 100 of a major market's overall Top Grossing chart within two months, the mystery-plus-romance double line pays back, and you should follow earlier and bolder.

### One line

Peekie is an interactive puzzle app where you solve missing-person cases by digging through strangers' phones (finding clues, reading chat logs, photos, and maps). Version 2.0 added "AI romance interactive stories" (chatting with characters on your phone and feeling the flutter). The developer is Intelli Future INC (the TikTok advertiser is INTELLIFUTURE LIMITED, registered in Hong Kong; the Android developer name is PopPark.AI, and the same team also makes the AI game generator PopPark). **Its wave of growth is essentially paid TikTok acquisition that started in late October, and the product itself has no unique gameplay** : found-phone puzzles are an old genre, and a batch of similar new titles arrived in 2026.

### 1. Data: the shape of the launch

- Released on iOS 2026-08-06, current v2.0.4 (2026-11-03). US store rating 431, 4.61 stars (iTunes lookup, 2026-11-06).

- Across all storefronts, total ratings went from 2026-10-28 893 to 11-06 1278; daily new ratings rose from 10-29 5 to 11-03~11-05 32–36; and charted countries grew from 14 to 36 (data card daily_all_countries).

- The best ranks are in the small English-speaking markets: **New Zealand and Ireland overall Top Free #7, Entertainment Top Free #1** (appstore.chart_rank, through 2026-11-06); Australia's best overall Top Free was #104; the UK and Canada sat at #20–#25 in Entertainment Top Free; the US has only hovered at #97–#141 in Entertainment Top Free and Top Grossing, and is slipping (app_day, us, 10-28 #97 → 11-06 #141).

- Grossing: it has never made the overall Top 100 Grossing in any storefront (best overall Grossing in New Zealand was #186); its best Entertainment Grossing ranks are New Zealand #24, Ireland #30, Australia #48, UK #58, and US #98 (chart_rank). That means it is taking some money, but not much.

- Ratings by storefront: US 425 (+70 in the last 7 days), South Korea 332 (only +12 in the last 7 days, accumulated early on), Canada 96, France 95, UK 75, Australia 68 (app_profile). South Korea has many ratings but almost no recent growth, which suggests an early push there; unverified.

- Android (ai.peekie.app, developer PopPark.AI): 2026-09-08 listing, 109,145 installs (100K+), +7 in the last 13,432 days; rated 3.2 stars from 493 ratings (googleplay.app_profile, 2026-11-06). Android ratings are clearly lower than on iOS.

- Pricing: weekly subscription $9.99, monthly $14.99, yearly $34.99, plus Peekie Credit packs at $2.99–$39.99 (App Store page, via Jina search snippet); Play in-app purchases range $2.99–$199.99.

- Name history: Peekie: Crime Mystery Games → Story & Mystery Games (at 1.1.9) → Stories & Mysteries (still used in Jordan, Hungary, Egypt, and others) → Stories & Choices (since 2.0, most storefronts). The path shows it moving from pure detective play toward "detective + AI interactive romance stories" (page titles from appstore.app_name, chartoo, appfigures, appbrain).

### 2. Growth lever: paid TikTok acquisition (confirmed)

- The tiktokads library links the app to advertiser **INTELLIFUTURE LIMITED** (registered in Hong Kong, TikTok account @peekie.app; payer is HONG KONG JINYAN COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY CO., LIMITED, which looks like an agency). Evidence: the ads' download_url points to App Store id 6792978953.

- Flight pattern: 12 test creatives ran May 15–16 (reach 0–1K), then stopped. **Buying restarted in Oct 20 and scaled from Oct 27** : new creatives per day were 10-27, 21, 10-28, 70,10-31, 90,11-03, 100,11-04, 75; the library holds 586 in total, 96 currently running, and 192 new in the last 7 days; the highest single-ad reach was in the 10–200K tier. Spend shows up for GB and IE only (tiktokads only captures ads served to Europe; US and AU/NZ placements are not visible).

- The timing lines up exactly: daily new ratings rose from 5 to 30+, and charted countries went from 14 to 38, both during the 10-28–11-03 scale-up. Ireland was a buying market and also hit #7 overall Top Free. New Zealand reached #7 as well; buying there is likely but unverified.

- Creatives split into two lines:
    - Detective angle: "Opened her phone for 5 minutes. Lost 3 hours." "Peekie is a mystery you solve by scrolling. Search a missing girl's real phone."
    - AI romance angle (driving traffic to the story mode added in 2.0): "Not me catching feelings for a man in my phone" "My standards are ruined by a man who isn't even real" "Why am I blushing at my phone like he can see me" "I downloaded it as a joke. Now I'm emotionally invested."

- The official @peekie.app account posted 458 videos with only 164 followers, each getting 45–220 views (TikHub, 2026-11-06). That account exists to run ads and has no organic reach.

- Creators/UGC: scattered "#Peekie" videos from small TikTok accounts (@investigatewithmia, @glau.games, Brazilian Portuguese @matheusnm4 and @heloysa.st0, with 12–117 likes). The account names look like dedicated game-recommendation UGC accounts. Likely small creator deals or Spark Ads creative accounts; unverified.

- Channels with no evidence: Google Ads (googleads library shows no_ads), Meta (no matching Page found in the metaads library; not finding one doesn't mean it wasn't run), X (x-radar: 0 posts in the last 60 days), Reddit, Hacker News, and press coverage.

- Negative reviews point straight at the ads: "All the ads are extremely misleading and don't say anything about needed a subscription" (ca, 1 stars, 10-28); "pretends you don't have to pay then halfway through it makes you pay" (au, 2 stars, 11-02); "complete AI slop… have to pay to continue" (gb, 1 stars). This is the classic paid-acquisition monetization loop: ads pull users in → the first chapter is free → a subscription paywall appears at the key clue.

### 3. Competitors

The "find someone's phone and investigate" (found-phone) niche has existed since 2016 with A Normal Lost Phone and Simulacra, and 2026 brought a wave of new entries:

| Product | Platform | Launched | Scale (US ratings / library data) | How it differs from Peekie |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| An Elmwood Trail | iOS/Android | 2023-03 | 266K ratings, +7 across all storefronts in the last 2001 days | Category leader, hundreds of times Peekie's scale; one long-running story, no AI romance |
| ColdTrace: Cold Case Mystery(Saclic Studio) | iOS | 2026-05-31 | Charted in 6,640,47 stores | The same premise (phone + cold case), launched two months earlier and 15 times bigger; pure detective |
| Stalkie · Mobile Detective | iOS | 2026-01-13 | 2,919 | Fake phones, fake apps, deleted data; pure detective; indie developer |
| Snitchy - Detective Game(YM Labs) | iOS | 2026-07-21 | Charted in 56,32 stores | Nearly identical ad copy ("Someone's missing. You've got their phone.") |
| Leaked · Mobile Detective Game | iOS | 2026-08-18 | 244 | Same gameplay |
| SpyDiva / Last Seen: Lost Phone Mystery / Stalk Me If You Can | iOS | 2026-05~10 | 30–141 | Small-scale peers |
| The Simulacra series, Duskwood, Peek a Phone | iOS/Android/PC | 2017–2019 | Simulacra 5,186, Duskwood 3,528 | Established found-phone and chat-style mysteries, sold as one-time purchases or chapter-based payments |
| Heyyyy: Stories that text back | iOS | 2026-04-10 | 4,796 | AI characters texting to build romance; the direct comparison for Peekie's 2.0 story mode. The App Store "You might also like" section lists the two side by side |
| EMOCHI World: AI Story Chat | iOS | 2026-03-25 | 14,002 across all storefronts, +4,841 in the last 7 days | AI story chat, one order of magnitude bigger than Peekie |
| Episode / Chapters / Choices | iOS/Android | 2013–2017 | 2.8M / 116K / 199K | Traditional choice-based interactive fiction that doesn't use a phone interface |

(Numbers from appstore.app_profile, the highest storefront rating count and the all-storefront total, plus iTunes lookup, 2026-11-06)

### 4. Differentiation

- The only real difference: **it puts "phone detective" and "AI romance interactive story" in the same phone interface** . ColdTrace, Stalkie, and Elmwood do only detective; Heyyyy and EMOCHI do only AI romance. The interface packaging is "a world inside a phone" (messages, photos, social feeds, maps, recordings).

- Is this difference why it took off? **Partly, but mainly at the acquisition layer** : two themes let it run both "true crime" and "the man in my phone makes me feel things" creatives at once, reaching a female-skewing romance audience that performs well on TikTok. The gameplay itself has no moat. At least seven or eight rivals existed by 2026, and ColdTrace started earlier and grew bigger.

- Product reception is mixed: 4.6 stars on iOS (new users often leave positive reviews on day one), 3.2 on Android, with complaints concentrated on the mid-story paywall and "AI slop."

### 5. Visibility and copycats

- Revenue isn't public, and no media outlet or big X account has covered it; Reddit doesn't discuss it either. Only automated listing pages like appfigures, chartoo, and magicscreenshots index it. It's "still little-known." But the found-phone niche itself is already crowded, with a batch of 2026 peers (Snitchy, Leaked, Last Seen, Stalk Me If You Can) launching around the same time as Peekie. They look like parallel builds in the same trend wave, not copies of Peekie.

### 6. Verdict

Peekie didn't take off through product word-of-mouth or organic spread. A Hong Kong company (the same team as PopPark) built a "phone detective + AI romance" hybrid from AI-generated content. After validating a subscription paywall, it scaled TikTok ads from Oct 27 (about 10 new creatives in 500 days), targeting cheap small English-speaking markets (UK, Ireland, New Zealand), and pushed into the overall Top Free top 10, with the US only partly following. Money comes back through the weekly subscription at $9.99 and credit packs; it reached the Grossing Entertainment top 30–60 but still isn't visible on the overall Grossing chart. Whether this lasts depends on whether subscriptions can pay back acquisition, and a meaningful share of negative reviews cite "misleading ads" and "paywalls."

### 7. Takeaways

- Running two themes (mystery + romance) in one app lets creatives be tested on two lines and widens the audience that can be bought;

- Buy traffic in cheap small English-speaking markets to climb the charts, and use a "Top 10 Overall Free" rank to earn organic downloads;

- Creatives use a first-person UGC voice ("Not me catching feelings…" "Opened her phone for 5 minutes. Lost 3 hours.");

- AI generates "phone content" in bulk (chats, photos, posts), lowering per-case content costs;

- The first few chapters are free, and a weekly subscription blocks the key clues.

### 8. Uncertain

- Whether the US or AU/NZ were targeted on TikTok and Meta is invisible to our data (tiktokads only captures European placements; Meta didn't match a Page);
