# Others pay to sell $50 paper books on TikTok; he catches the people searching for books on the App Store

**What it is** An offline Bible reader: the full KJV and 1 Enoch are free, and a subscription unlocks the deuterocanonical books, Jubilees, Meqabyan and other "removed books."

**Why it took off** On TikTok, paper-book brands ran ads with AI presenters pushing "88 Ethiopian Bible" for months. Many viewers then searched the App Store, and this app's title and copy matched the term exactly, ranking #1 in the US store search.

**C** **How you could play it** Don't chase this keyword. The lesson is the method: watch which hot terms DTC brands push through paid TikTok acquisition, then claim the matching digital slot in app stores, use public-domain content, and give generous free tiers.

Grade C: the approach is worth learning, but the keyword isn't worth chasing. Volume is still small (around #180 in the US Books free chart), the top spot is already taken, new entrants keep coming, the paywall is getting roasted, and the buzz is propped up by other people's paid acquisition. Few people know about it yet

A Turkish indie developer shipped 32 small apps in six months, and only one got real traction: a Bible reader called "Ethiopian Bible: Lost Books." It did no promotion. What created the demand was a batch of TikTok brands selling paper "Ethiopian Bibles," which hired AI presenters and ran ads for months. This piece covers how the app caught that traffic, how much it caught, and whether you can use the same playbook.

### A presenter who doesn't exist

Aug 2026 27, TikTok account @enoch.whitfield posted a video: a kindly old man talking about "the books the church removed," with only one line of copy, "Get The Bible From My Profile," and tags #syntheticperformer #faithmadepartner. The first tag is TikTok's label for AI-generated presenters, the second is the distribution tag for the print Bible brand The Faith Made. As of Nov 6 the video has 510k views and 44k likes (TikTok, 11-06). The same account's Aug 11 video has 350k views. On Nov 2 and 4 it was still posting new videos, each getting 200–300k views.

These videos sell a $49.95 print Bible, pitched as "88 volumes, the most complete Bible." Some of the people who watch all the way through don't want to pay $50 or wait for shipping, so they open the App Store and search "Ethiopian Bible."

On Nov 6, searching this term in the US store, the top result is Ethiopian Bible: Lost Books. It was released Aug 4. Below it is an older app with 391 ratings, and The Faith Made's companion app (App Store US search, 11-06).

### What it is

An offline Bible reader, more polished than its peers:

- **The free part** : the full 66-book KJV (King James Version), plus the 108 chapters of 1 Enoch (R. H. Charles translation). 1 Enoch is the book TikTok talks about most.

- **The subscription-unlocked part** : $4.99/month or $44.99/year, with a 7-day trial. Unlocks 19 more books: KJV Apocrypha, Jubilees, Jasher, and English translations of three Meqabyan books. The store page says "an App Store first."

- No ads, no account required. Privacy label reads "Data Not Collected."

Its smartest line is on the store page: "See what the 66-book, 81-book and "88 books" collections actually contain……no inflated "complete" claims, from us or from anyone." In plain terms: when TikTok says "88 books," we tell you what's actually inside, and for books with no English translation we say "none." In a category where everyone shouts "most complete," its pitch is honesty.

### Where users come from: search

The app has no TikTok account, no website, nobody discusses it on X, and no media has written about it. Nearly all users arrive through App Store search, and it does a few direct things with search:

- The title is "Ethiopian Bible: Lost Books," the subtitle "Enoch, Jubilees & Meqabyan," and the promo text opens with "Looking for the 88 books?" It writes in the phrases that keep recurring in TikTok ads (ethiopian bible, lost books, 88 books, enoch).

- Older Bible app developers haven't caught up with the new term. Oleg Shukalovich's app with 7,188 ratings is called "Book of Enoch and Audio Bible"; Haven Tran's app with 1,044 ratings is called "Jubilees, Jasher, Enoch, Bible." Neither has "Ethiopian Bible" in the name. The app named Bible Ethiopian is for Amharic-speaking Ethiopian believers. English-speaking users who want an English-interface "Ethiopian Bible" had no clear app, so this slot was open.

- Rating 4.66, but of 92 US ratings only 3 include written reviews, and 3 are all 1-star. A distribution like that suggests most stars came from the in-app rating prompt (inference). High ratings keep search rank stable.

From the outside we can't tell whether they run Apple Search Ads. Users searching this term have a fair willingness to pay, so the chance they're buying is decent (inference, unverified).

### How big it has gotten: still small

| What to look at | Metric |
|---|---|
| US ratings | 10-28 vs 80,11-06, 91,10 days, 11 more |
| Ratings across all regions | 84 → 96 |
| US Books Top Free chart | Ranked between 149 and 191 |
| English-speaking African stores, Books Top Free chart | Ghana #4–9, Botswana #20, South Africa #24–37 |
| Overall Top Grossing chart | Not charted in any region |

(App Store daily charts and ratings, 10-28 to 11-06)

The #4 in Ghana shouldn't be taken seriously: it has only 1 ratings there, and the Books chart bar is very low. The real volume is in the US, where the app sits around #170–180 on the Books Top Free chart, roughly dozens of downloads a day (estimate).

Revenue is harder to read. The 3 one-star reviews all complain about the same thing:

> "Why would you supply the full bible and have the opportunity to spread the true word for free… then put it behind a paywall?" (11-02,1 stars) "doesn't the bible itself say to not profit off of the name of god?……everything other than enoch and the 66 books we all know are behind paywall." (8-19,1 stars)

Many people came for a "free Ethiopian Bible" and left when they hit the paywall. Subscription conversion is probably low (inference).

### Who else is competing for this term

- **The Faith Made** : it buys the TikTok traffic. Its companion app launched Jul 22 with 113 US ratings. If it seriously works on the app and links it in every video, it could take the #1 spot back.

- **New apps arriving** : Godflow Ethiopian Study Bible (7-15), Book of Enoch: Audio & Study (9-18), Ethiopian Orthodox Bible (10-27), plus an almost identically named "Ethiopian Bible・Lost Books・KJV" released in April with only 5 ratings. A matching name alone doesn't help; you need ratings, updates, and a decent page.

- **Android** : this developer hasn't made an Android version. On Google Play, GeezApps' Ethiopian Bible launched in February and already has 195k installs; WiseApp Digitalized runs three sister apps: a study edition at 109k, a Spanish edition at 22k, and an NKJV study edition at 19k (Google Play lifetime installs, as of early November). Someone is already mass-producing on Android.

- **Print and ebooks** : Edward Jones' "Original Ethiopian Bible" claims over 50k copies sold, and Amazon has plenty of "88 books" editions. They are the source of the demand, and they don't sit on the same shelf as the apps.

### What's actually worth learning from this

The app has no real moat: the content is all public domain (KJV, Charles translation). What's worth copying is the developer's method:

1. **Watch the words other people paid to create.** DTC brands run ads on TikTok to send people to Amazon or Shopify to buy physical products. Some of the people who see those ads will search the same term in the app store, where the matching digital slot is often unclaimed. Use the ads' own phrasing in the title, subtitle, and promo text.

2. **Public domain content, generous free tier.** The content costs nothing; the book users most want (1 Enoch) is free, and the rest of the books plus study tools are sold as a subscription.

3. **In categories full of exaggerated claims, honesty is the selling point.** Spell out sources and say plainly what's missing, and you look most authoritative.

4. **Make several, keep the one that works.** This developer shipped 32 apps from March to September: measurement tools, chicken raising, soapmaking, journaling… only this one gained traction. They're already copying the template: in September they released Septuagint: Apostles' Bible, a Septuagint reader, currently at 2 ratings.

### If it were you

**Verdict: C.** The playbook is worth learning, the term less so. Someone already holds #1 in the US, newcomers keep arriving every month, and The Faith Made could make its own app take off at any time. The whole pool sits around #100–200 on the US Books chart, and the paywall keeps getting criticized.

**Who it suits** : indie developers already shipping apps in volume who know ASO, treating "ride the DTC ad buzzwords" as a topic-picking method; or people who already have a Bible app on Android and want to pick up one more term.

**Who it doesn't suit** : anyone hoping to make a living from this one app; anyone targeting Ethiopian Amharic-speaking believers, where local teams like Kalel Apps already operate and single TikTok videos get tens to hundreds of thousands of views.

**How to do it** : if you go after this term, the only open slots are the ones nobody is seriously working: platforms beyond iOS, Spanish and Portuguese (Latin America has many evangelical Christians, and WiseApp's Spanish edition has only 22k installs), or audio versions (1 Enoch as an audiobook, for listening on commutes). Better still, copy the method: each week, search TikTok for physical-product videos tagged #ad, #syntheticperformer, or brand distribution tags, see which terms people are paying to push, then search the same terms in the App Store and check whether the top five are old apps that don't match the topic.

**How to get users** : through store search. Copy the ad phrasing into the title and subtitle, trigger the rating prompt at the right moments in the app, and keep collecting ratings until you outrank the old apps. If willingness to pay is decent, it's worth putting a small budget on Apple Search Ads for this term.

**Timing** : the term's heat is propped up by The Faith Made's paid acquisition. In early November they were still posting daily and running Black Friday promotions. Once Black Friday and the Christmas gift season pass, the ad spend may stop. If you're going to do it, launch before December.

**What would show we're wrong** : (1) if accounts like @enoch.whitfield keep posting into 2027 and their views hold up, the demand is more than a one-off promotion, and the estimate should go up; (2) if this app reaches the top 100 of the US Books Top Grossing chart, subscriptions are making money and the playbook pays better than it looks; (3) conversely, if The Faith Made's app takes #1 in search in December and holds it, search slots can't be defended, and new entrants have even less room.

Where users come from

- **Verified** **App Store search / ASO** : in the US store, "ethiopian bible" ranks #1, "lost books of the bible" ranks #5. Subtitle: "Enoch, Jubilees & Meqabyan"; promo text: "Looking for the 88 books?"

- **Verified** **External TikTok demand (AI avatar distribution ads from paper-book sellers like The Faith Made)** : #syntheticperformer #faithmadepartner videos with 130k to 510k plays per clip (e.g. @enoch.whitfield), turning "Ethiopian Bible" into a trending term. This traffic wasn't bought by this app; it spilled over.

- Inferred **In-app review prompt** : 92 ratings averaging 4.7, but only 3 text reviews exist, and all are 1 stars.

- Inferred **Apple Search Ads** : no evidence, just a guess.

## Why Ethiopian Bible: Lost Books (iOS id6793595535) is getting traction

> Research date 2026-11-06. Data sources: our appstore / googleplay libraries (agent-im server, since 2026-10-28), Apple lookup / search / review RSS (pulled 2026-11-06), TikHub TikTok search, Jina web search and page extraction.

### One line

The **only one that gained traction** out of 32 small apps batch-built by Turkish indie developer Ufuk Ozdemir (brand TheKnack). It rides an external wave: over the past 2026 years, DTC brands selling physical "88-volume Ethiopian Bible" books on TikTok (The Faith Made and others) ran AI avatar videos and affiliate creators, and many viewers went to the App Store and searched "Ethiopian Bible". The app saturates that term via title, subtitle and promo text, **ranking #1 for "ethiopian bible" in the US store** . Conversion comes from a generous free tier: full KJV and Enoch free, the rest subscription. Scale is still small (91 US ratings; Books free chart around #170–190).

### 1. What it is

- Offline Bible reader: full 66-book KJV, Book of Enoch (R. H. Charles translation) free; subscription ($4.99/month, $44.99/year, 7-day trial; the page also lists a $9.99 lifetime one-time purchase) unlocks Deuterocanon, Jubilees, Jasher and the three Meqabyan books in English ("an App Store first").

- Version 2.0 (2026-08-11, one week after launch) added a "study layer": 1611-year-old KJV translator notes 6,959, 44,104 cross-references, a one-page introduction for each of 86 books, a "canon comparison matrix" (Protestant 66 / Catholic 73 / Orthodox / Tewahedo 81), and an explicit list of the nine books with **no English translation** . It also switched from one-time purchase to subscription. Source: releaseNotes / description from Apple lookup.

- No data collection, no ads, no accounts (App privacy label: "Data Not Collected").

### 2. Data

| Metric | Value | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Launched | 2026-08-04; version 2.0 2026-08-11 | Apple lookup |
| US ratings | 2026-10-28 80 → 2026-11-06 91 (10 days +11, about 1.1/day), average rating 4.66 | appstore.app_day |
| Ratings across all stores | 84 → 96 | Data card daily_all_countries |
| US Books Top Free chart | #149–191 | app_day |
| Books free charts in smaller African stores | Ghana #4–#9 (11-04 to 11-06), South Africa #24–#37, Nigeria #44–#113, Botswana #20, Uganda #33 | app_day / data card |
| Text reviews | US RSS has only 3 reviews, all 1 stars, complaining "the Bible shouldn't cost money" | Apple review RSS |

Reading: of 91 ratings, only 3 are text reviews, and all are negative, yet the average is 4.7, which means most ratings came from the in-app prompt (SKStoreReviewController). That's normal prompted rating. Storefronts like Ghana and Botswana have a very low bar for the Books free chart; Ghana has only 1 ratings in total, so charting there looks busy but volume is tiny. The real pool is in the US.

### 3. Competitors

**US store search for "ethiopian bible" (2026-11-06, Apple search endpoint)** :

1. **Ethiopian Bible: Lost Books** (this app, 92 ratings)

2. Bible Ethiopian (Haileslassie Lilay Desalegn, 2025-11-14,391 ratings): 81 volumes, in Amharic, English KJV, Tigrinya and Oromo, aimed at native Ethiopian believers

3. The Faith Made (THE FAITH MADE LLC, 2026-07-22,113 ratings): companion app for a physical book brand

4. Ethiopian Bible・Lost Books・KJV (DAMIAN ZIETKIEWICZ, 2026-04-26,5 ratings): nearly identical name, launched earlier, but almost no traction

5. Jubilees, Jasher, Enoch, Bible (Haven Tran, 2021,1,044 ratings)

6. Book of Enoch and Audio Bible (Oleg Shukalovich, 2015,7,188 ratings): veteran developer of a Bible-apocrypha portfolio

7. Ethiopian Orthodox Bible (Gebriel Abebe Fanta, 2026-10-27,1 ratings): newcomer

8. Book of Enoch: Audio & Study (Moshe Cohen, 2026-09-18,4 ratings): newcomer

Searching "lost books of the bible", this app ranks #5, ahead of older apps like Oleg Shukalovich (1,822), Arsosa and Haven Tran.

**Google Play** (googleplay library, cumulative installs): Book of Enoch (Daily Bible Apps) 680k; The Book of Enoch (Share and Enjoy) 270k; **Ethiopian Bible (GeezApps, listed 2026-02-14) 195k** ; WiseApp Digitalized alone runs three sister listings: Ethiopian Bible Commentary (109k), a Spanish edition (22k), and an NKJV Study edition (19k). Ufuk Ozdemir has no Android version.

**Physical books / web** : The Faith Made (thefaithmade.com, Shopify, $49.95/book, Black Friday promo, homepage reads "Rated 4.9 • Thousands of 5-Star Reviews"); "Original Ethiopian Bible by Edward Jones" (ethiopianbible.app, claims over 50k copies sold, "88 books + 1713 apocrypha"); Solomon's Gate Press large-print edition; Clear Text Editions (ethiopiancanon.com, focused on 81 books with sources cited for each, the closest web-side peer to this app, 1,028 TikTok followers). Amazon also has a flood of "88-book" versions.

**Big players** : YouVersion and Bible Gateway have no dedicated Ethiopian canon edition; Apple Books carries ebooks.

### 4. Where users came from (growth tactics)

1. **AI avatar distribution ads from paper-book sellers on TikTok drove the search demand (external, confirmed).** A TikHub search for "ethiopian bible" surfaces many videos up front tagged `#syntheticperformer #faithmadepartner #ad` (#syntheticperformer is TikTok's label for AI-generated presenters, #faithmadepartner is The Faith Made's affiliate tag). Accounts like @enoch.whitfield, @ethiopian.bible.daily, @earl.robinson.faith, @memhir_solomon, with 130k to 510k plays per clip (e.g. @enoch.whitfield's 2026-08-27 clip at 510k plays / 44k likes; 2026-11-02 and 11-04 at 270k and 280k). There's also an unboxing from @marriedmodel96 2026-04-03 with 4.43M plays. These videos sell paper books on Amazon / Shopify, but some viewers wonder "is there one for my phone?" and go search the store.

2. **App Store search / ASO (this app's main acquisition, strongly inferred).** Title "Ethiopian Bible: Lost Books", subtitle "Enoch, Jubilees & Meqabyan", promo text opens with "Looking for the 88 books?", claiming "ethiopian bible", "lost books", "88 books" and "enoch". It ranks #1 for "ethiopian bible" in the US store, ahead of the 391-rating Bible Ethiopian and the TikTok-driven The Faith Made. Users hear "88 books", and the promo text meets them there, then tells them "the true canon is 81 books".

3. **In-app review prompt (inferred).** 3 text reviews, all 1 stars, against 92 ratings averaging 4.7: a classic prompted-rating pattern, and a higher rating keeps search ranking stable.

4. **What we couldn't find** : the app has no TikTok account of its own, no official website (TheKnack isn't findable online), no discussion on X (x-radar shows 90 posts in the past 0 days), and no media coverage. Ad libraries only track products on the watchlist, so this one not showing up doesn't mean it isn't running Apple Search Ads; it's bidding on a high-intent term, so ASA is a reasonable guess but unverified.

### 5. Why this one

- **Timing: someone else paid to create the demand.** The Faith Made (listed on the App Store 2026-07-22) and other paper-book sellers spent 2026 years running AI avatar distribution ads on TikTok, making "Ethiopian Bible / 88 books / deleted books" trending terms. This app launched in Aug 4, right into the wave.

- **Search slot: a new term that veteran developers missed.** Oleg Shukalovich, Haven Tran and other portfolio developers name their apps "Book of Enoch" or "Apocrypha", not "Ethiopian Bible". Bible Ethiopian targets Amharic speakers. English-speaking users searching "Ethiopian Bible" find a newer app with a matching name, a clean interface and 4.7 ratings, and it's easy to take #1.

- **Thick free tier, so people stay after installing.** Full KJV plus 108 chapters of Enoch free (Enoch is the book TikTok talks about most), then the "canon comparison matrix / per-book sources" answers the question everyone is asking: "what exactly are the 88 books?"

- **Differentiation: credibility through candor** (see next section). In a category full of inflated claims like "1713 extra books" and "the most complete ever", it puts "the nine books with no English translation are not included" in its selling points.

### 6. What's the differentiation, and is it why it broke out?

- **Versus paper books / The Faith Made** : paper is $50; this app is free plus subscription, and it's on your phone. The Faith Made's app is a companion to its paper book; this is a standalone reader with more scholarly material (1611 notes, cross-references, Charles's chapter summaries). Its positioning even takes aim at the "88 books" hype ("no inflated 'complete' claims, from us or from anyone").

- **Versus Bible Ethiopian** : that one is a multilingual Bible for native Ethiopian believers; this one is for English-speaking Americans curious about the "deleted books".

- **Versus the veteran Enoch / Apocrypha apps** : older apps have ads and dated interfaces, and aren't named "Ethiopian Bible"; this one is ad-free, offline, carefully typeset, and sits on the new term.

- **Verdict:** **The direct reason it ranks #1 is that it rode a hot keyword and grabbed the search slot** (distribution, plus timing). Its academic sources and "we tell it straight" positioning earn it 4.7 points and make it look like the most legitimate product in this batch of newcomers, which is why it holds its spot. But those differences are invisible to TikTok viewers and aren't what's driving installs. The one-star reviews about the paywall also show that many users came for a "free Ethiopian Bible," not for scholarly value.

### 7. How many people know it / has anyone copied it

- **Visibility: almost nobody knows about it yet.** No public revenue figures, no media or X coverage, and the developer doesn't run a content account. The category is hot (the "Ethiopian Bible" topic has tens of millions of views on TikTok, and BibleGateway, GotQuestions, and the Jude 3 Project have all written explainers), but nobody is talking about this app specifically.

- **Copycats:** I haven't seen anyone clearly copying it. Newcomers keep arriving under the same keyword: Book of Enoch: Audio & Study (2026-09-18), Ethiopian Orthodox Bible (2026-10-27), Godflow Ethiopian Study Bible (2026-07-15). The developer is also replicating the formula: Septuagint: Apostles' Bible (2026-09-08,2 rating) is the same "obscure canon" reader. On Android, WiseApp Digitalized has already been churning out Ethiopian Bible clones.

### 8. What to borrow

- **Doing ASO behind keywords other people's paid acquisition created:** physical book and DTC brands run TikTok ads and send traffic to Amazon, while the search slots for same-named digital versions in the stores often sit empty. Take the exact phrasing from their ads ("88 books," "lost books") and put it in the name, subtitle, and promo text.

- **Public-domain content to thicken the free tier:** the KJV and Charles translation are public domain, so the content costs nothing; the book users want most (Enoch) is free, and they charge for "the other books plus study tools."

- **Using "we tell it straight" as the selling point in a category full of exaggerated claims:** listing sources and disclosing what's missing actually reads as more authoritative.

- **Mass-produce, keep only what hits:** this developer shipped 32 apps from March to September (measurement tools, raising chickens, making soap...), and only this one has traction. It's a "spray many, catch a keyword lucky" play, not evidence that any one product is especially good.

### 9. Still unclear

- Subscription conversion and revenue: it has never charted on any storefront's overall Top Grossing list; its #128 / #166 on the Guyana and Saudi Books grossing charts is noise. The one-star reviews suggest many people drop off at the paywall.

- Whether it runs Apple Search Ads: unverified.

- How long the "ethiopian bible" search volume will keep climbing depends on The Faith Made's TikTok distribution push (they were still posting new videos daily in early November), and it could fall off after Black Friday.

- Whether it gets overtaken in search rankings: The Faith Made has ready-made TikTok traffic, and once it polishes the app it could easily pass this one.
