Tablya: Homemade Food (طبلية) · Asser Osama

# A 22-year-old Cairo mom posted a short video about "Imans Mom" and pushed her home-cooking app to the top of Egypt's chart

**What it is** A home-cooked food delivery app in Egypt: moms open their own kitchens, post menus and take orders, and neighbors order in.

**Why it blew up** The founder told her own story as a mom on TikTok and Facebook. Two videos hit 887K and 635K views, and each one sparked an install spike. The kitchen owners then brought in their own regulars, tapping into the frustration with Talabat's high commissions and sketchy hygiene.

**B** **How you could follow** Don't fight it in Egypt. Pick a country with no local Tablya yet, film yourself telling the home cooks' stories, give each kitchen a storefront page they can share on Facebook and WhatsApp, and line up 30–50 kitchens that are actually cooking in one city first.

Grade B: the playbook is clear and nearly free, and few people outside the niche know about it. But it runs on the founder's own content skills, so anyone following it has to be able to shoot video and be on the ground locally. The two-sided marketplace is heavy to run, how it makes money is unproven, and it has already passed its peak. Quietly circulating in small circles

In 2026 August, 22-year-old Asser Osama launched Tablya (طبلية) on his own: an app where Egyptian moms open their own "kitchen" and sell home-cooked meals on their phones. No funding, no team. Three months later it had about 60k installs on Google Play and 520 ratings on the App Store, scoring 4.85. Egypt already had people doing the same business, some half a year earlier, and none of them took off. The difference wasn't the product. It was that he could make videos himself. Below: how it took off, where it is now, and whether you can copy it in another country.

### A 25-second video

In 2026, on Sep 25, Asser posted a 25-second video on his TikTok account @asserapps, with only one line of title: "ماما ايمان 🦸‍♀️" (Mama Iman). It was about a mom who cooks and sells food from home. The account had fewer than 7,000 followers at the time. By Nov 6, the video had 887K views, 107K likes, 9,136 shares and nearly 3,000 comments (TikTok, 11-06).

The next day, he posted on LinkedIn that Tablya had become "the #1 app in Egypt," which got 331 reactions. Which chart, and at what moment, can't be verified from outside. The Egyptian App Store overall chart isn't a high bar, so briefly hitting #1 is plausible, but it's more likely an inference from a category-chart screenshot.

What we can verify is the install curve on Google Play (third-party estimates, so single-day numbers are rough): Oct 2 about 19k, Oct 4 about 39k, nearly 20k more in two or three days. It's the biggest jump it has had so far.

This wasn't the first time. On Sep 11, he posted a video to his personal Facebook page titled 《ازاي نسجل في ابلكيشن طبلية؟》(How do I sign up for the Tablya app?). It got 635k views and 7,200 likes. Around the same day, Android installs jumped from 1,800 to 4,100. On the App Store, a five-star review from Sep 10 put it plainly: "Go Asser, I'm your fan, and I found this app through you."

### What it actually is

A lightweight two-sided marketplace. Home cooks open a "kitchen" in the app and set their own menu and prices; people looking for home-style food find a kitchen nearby and chat with the cook to order. The store listing speaks to both sides: half to eaters ("Remember the taste of home-cooked food?"), half to cooks: "No restaurant, no storefront. Your kitchen is the starting point."

The app is free with no in-app purchases, and the commission isn't disclosed. Delivery is most likely handled by the kitchen finding its own couriers (no sign of platform-run delivery).

The small detail worth noticing in the product: **every kitchen gets its own web link** (tablya-web.vercel.app/k/编号). Open it and you get the menu, a QR code, and an "Open in App / Get it on Google Play" button.

### Where users come from

There's pull from both ends.

**The people eating it are mostly the founder's own audience.** His TikTok and Facebook have been doing build-in-public the whole time: 9-28 "Tablya is #1 in Egypt, but!", 10-02 "Calling all provinces!", 10-08 "Someone reported Tablya!", 10-10 "This will get Tablya's ads taken down", 10-15 "Every win comes with a loss", 10-22 "ماما مسعدة" (Mama Mosaada, 49k views). The two that actually broke out are about people, one about a mom, one about how to sign up. Not one of them is about features.

**Home cooks bring their regulars with them.** A lot of Egyptian home kitchens already have Facebook and Instagram pages with loyal customers. After joining Tablya, they post their kitchen link on those pages and send regulars to order in the app. That means every kitchen that opens is another person pulling users onto the platform for free. Visible examples include Tooma's Kitchen, Dishdor, Sweet Tooth (a dessert shop that moved back to Egypt from Qatar), and even a sourdough bakery in the UK. In a Yemeni community group in Cairo, someone also posted that they had contacted the founders and that Yemeni families can open kitchens directly.

**There's also a second route: "make money online" channels.** On YouTube, Egyptian channels that chase new money-making apps made tutorials like "Tablya explained: how women and mothers can earn money cooking at home." On TikTok, an entrepreneurship account with 35k followers posted an intro to 10-27 that got 94k views. These creators are recruiting supply: women who want to earn a little from home.

Unclear whether they ran paid ads. No mainstream coverage, and no English or Arabic tech press turned anything up; nobody is discussing it on X. Its reach is limited to Egyptian Facebook and TikTok.

### Why now, and why this one

User reviews say it plainly. One App Store review is titled "بديل طلبات المثالي" ("The perfect Talabat alternative"), and the body reads: "Healthy home cooking, made by good people like our mothers and sisters" (10-23). Another: "Women finally have their own little business, and we get clean home-cooked food, away from Talabat's exploitation and food we don't trust" (10-02). Talabat is the biggest delivery app in Egypt. Restaurants hate its commissions, and eaters don't trust the hygiene. Meanwhile inflation is squeezing household budgets, and women at home want income of their own. Tablya catches both sides.

The name is a bit of a lucky break too: طبلية is the old Egyptian low round table, the one the whole family eats around.

But others already built the same thing:

| Product | Launched | Scale | Why it didn't take off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Akla Bety أكلة بيتي | iOS 2026-03 | Android 10k+ installs; iOS Egypt store 0 ratings | Same model, six months earlier, plus delivery partnerships and hygiene audits; nobody is telling its story |
| Sufretak | iOS 2026-05 | Android 1,000+ | Same model at the company, no content |
| HomKitchs | Web | Claims 50+ kitchens and 10k+ customers | Platform-run kitchens with in-house delivery: heavy ops, slow to scale |
| Sofra | Pending launch | Started in Cairo, iOS app 0 rating | Not launched yet |
| Home-cooked food vendors on Talabat | Already around | Food delivery giant | Entering as a restaurant and paying a commission is exactly the side Tablya is being compared against |

(Google Play and App Store listings, 11-06)

So the answer is simple: on product, Tablya is only a bit lighter than the rest (anyone can open a kitchen, and each kitchen gets a shareable link). The real difference is a founder who makes videos. Without his two videos, it would most likely be the second Akla Bety.

### Where it stands now: past its peak

| Timeline | Google Play installs (third-party estimate) | App Store Egypt "Food & Drink" Top Free chart |
|---|---|---|
| 8-29 | 284 | — |
| 9-10 | 4,162 | — |
| 10-04 | 38,834 | — |
| 10-21 | 51,534 | — |
| 10-28 | — | #7 |
| 11-06 | 59,653 (last 7 days, +4,600) | #21 |

At its peak it was adding tens of thousands a day; now it's a few hundred. iOS new ratings run between 2 and 12 a day, and over 10 days it fell from #7 to #21 on the category chart. People are still downloading, but the breakout window has passed.

A few spots that need a question mark:

- **Nobody knows if it makes money.** No in-app purchases, and the cut isn't public; 10-15 the "earns, loses" line hints it's still burning cash on paid acquisition.

- **The ratings are suspiciously clean.** On Google Play, out of 1,123 ratings, the 1-star and 2-star counts are both 0 (11-04). The App Store has the complaints instead: "delivery fees too high, too slow" (9-28), "more expensive than the restaurant" (9-10), "payment freezes, chat with the kitchen freezes, no notifications" (9-24). The technical complaints stop almost entirely after the app went from 3.0 to 5.4 over two months.

- **Food safety and regulation.** Anyone can open a kitchen, which is why it scales, and also the risk. 10-08 The story about "someone reporting Tablya" shows people are already looking for trouble.

- **Orders and repeat purchases are completely opaque.** Once installed, you can't see how many people actually placed an order.

### If it were you

**Verdict** : B. The playbook is transferable, but Tablya itself isn't: Egypt's mind-share is already taken, and its core asset (the founder's face and his following) isn't something you can get. What's worth doing is running the same play in another country, provided you're the one who'll be on camera.

**Who it suits** : a team of 1–2 people, with at least one person willing to show up on camera every day, tell stories in the local dialect as a local mom, and be physically on the ground to film in home kitchens and handle disputes. It fits best in markets with a strong home-cooking culture, a food delivery scene dominated by one big platform, and women at home who want income. To sanity-check, look at whether anything similar is already gaining traction in other Arabic-speaking markets (Morocco, Jordan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia), Pakistan, Indonesia, and Nigeria.

**Who it's NOT for** : people who don't want to be on camera or plan to rely on paid ads or SEO for a cold start (every similar app that went that route stalled); anyone not located in the target country (two-sided marketplaces need on-the-ground work and deal with refunds and disputes); and anyone who wants to start earning fast (Tablya itself still hasn't figured out how to make money).

**How to build it** : keep the product as light as possible. Kitchens open a profile, post a menu, take orders by chat, and get paid cash on delivery, with the kitchen handling delivery itself at first. The one thing worth real effort: give each kitchen a polished store page that can be shared on Facebook and WhatsApp, with a QR code and a "order in the App" button. Get 30–50 kitchens actually cooking in one city first, then expand.

**How to get users** : on the supply side, DM the home-kitchen pages already on local Facebook one by one, telling them "free, and your regulars stay yours". Then find local "make money from home" YouTube and TikTok creators, who will talk about you on their own. On the demand side, it's your own account: one video per mom, showing what she cooks, why she started selling, and where her kitchen link is. Tablya's two biggest hits were a 25-second video and a sign-up tutorial, and neither one talks about features.

**Deadline** : the sooner the better, but don't tie it to holidays. The real window is "the target country doesn't have its own Tablya yet". Before you start, search the local App Store Food category and TikTok for terms like "home-cooked meals" and "mom's cooking". If people are already growing there, pick a different country.

**Signs you got it wrong** : ① You post 20 videos about people and none top 100k views. That means the approach isn't working for you, so don't force it. ② You onboard 50 kitchens and fewer than half are still taking orders a month later. Supply isn't sticking, so the referral loop breaks. ③ Tablya published a commission model before 2027 and quietly dropped it, or Android installs stall around 60k. That suggests the business didn't work in Egypt, and switching countries won't fix it easily. ④ The reverse: Tablya starts entering Saudi Arabia or the UAE, where there are large expat communities. That means it sees a path to expansion itself, so avoid the countries it's targeting.

## Tablya: Homemade Food (طبلية): why it took off

> iOS id 6794864990 / Android com.tablya.app. Developer Asser Osama (individual, only 1 app). Research date 2026-11-06.

### One line

An Egyptian two-sided "home kitchen" marketplace app: moms and home cooks open their own "kitchens" in the app, post menus, set prices, and take orders, while users order home-cooked food nearby. It took off mainly because **the founder, aged 22, became an influencer himself** . He repeatedly drove growth on Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram with short "mom's story" videos (one Facebook tutorial reached 635k views, one TikTok reached 887k views). On top of that, **every kitchen gets a personal share link** , which kitchen owners post on Facebook and Instagram themselves, creating a supply-side referral loop. It isn't a product or technical differentiator. It's a distribution play that caught the sentiment that Egypt's delivery platforms take high commissions and that takeout food isn't trustworthy.

### 1. Data: how big it is and whether it's still growing

| Android rating distribution | 1-star 0, 2-star 0, 3-star 59, 4-star 59, 5-star 1,004 (11-04) | googleplay library app_snap |

Conclusion: **real traction, but the peak has passed** . The two jumps came around September 10–11 and October 2–4. Since then daily gains have dropped from nearly 10,000 to a few hundred, and the iOS Egypt category rank fell from #7 to #21 in 10 days. The recall card's claim that it's "still accelerating" doesn't hold.

### 2. Why it took off

#### 2.1 The founder himself is the biggest traffic channel (confirmed)

- Asser Osama, aged 22. LinkedIn bio: "making moms a living @ tablya". The company page shows 1 employees. Facebook personal page has 18,299 followers and "2,490 people talking about this" (from a Jina search snippet).

- **2026-09-11 Facebook Reel "ازاي نسجل في ابلكيشن طبلية؟" (How do I sign up for Tablya?): 635k views, 7.2K likes, 207 comments** ([link](https://www.facebook.com/aser.osama.01/videos/1820118902764918/)). The same video on TikTok (@asserapps) got 175k views. The timing lines up with Android's first jump, 9-10 / 9-11 (single day +2,348).

- **2026-09-25 TikTok "ماما ايمان 🦸‍♀️" (Mama Eman): 887k views, 107k likes, 9,136 shares** (TikHub). It tells the story of a mom-chef on the platform. Over the next few days iOS climbed to "#1 in Egypt downloads" (see below), and Android had a second, bigger jump between 10-02 and 10-04.

- @asserapps TikTok: 6,957 followers, 22 posts, 165K likes total. The content is build in public: "Tablya is #1 in Egypt, but!" (9-28), "Call to all governorates" (10-02), "Someone reported the Tablya app" (10-08), "Will make people delete the Tablya ads" (10-10), "Where there's profit, there's loss" (10-15), "Mama Mas'ada" (10-2.25M views). On Instagram, @asserapps 9-02 posted "Tablya became #٣ in Egypt!!!!" (Tablya became #3 in Egypt).

- A user review names the source directly: "استمر يا آسر أنا من متابعينك وعرفت الابليكشن عن طريقك" (Keep going, Asser. I'm one of your followers and found out about the app through you). iOS Egypt review 2026-09-10.

- 9-26 LinkedIn post: "#1 downloaded app in Egypt", 331 reactions, 53 comments (post ID decodes to 2026-09-26 12:37 UTC). Our iOS library only starts from 10-28, so we can't verify this "#1". Egypt's iOS overall chart has a low bar, so a short climb to #1 is possible, but it's more likely a category chart or a screenshot from a single moment.

#### 2.2 Supply-side referral: one share link per kitchen (confirmed)

- Every kitchen has its own link `tablya-web.vercel.app/k/<id>`, and the page has a QR code and "Open in the App / Download from Google Play". Searches show many kitchen owners posting the link on Facebook and Instagram: Tooma's Kitchen, Dishdor (ديشدور), فريش اوى, Pinch of yummmmm, على قديمه, اطباق ومصنعات الندى, the Sweet Tooth dessert shop moved back to Egypt from Qatar, and even a sourdough bakery in the UK.

- Kitchen owners already have their own Facebook pages and regulars. Once they join Tablya, they send their followers to the app to order, so every kitchen is effectively bringing demand-side users to the platform. The founder is open to anyone (in the Yemenis-in-Cairo group, a poster said he contacted the founder, who agreed to let Yemeni home cooks open kitchens directly; the platform also has kitchens from India and China).

#### 2.3 "Make money from home" YouTube / TikTok secondary spread (confirmed; reach not verified)

- "الربح من الانترنت" (making money online) creators make tutorials on their own initiative. The YouTube channel نتاوي has at least two videos: "شرح تطبيق طبلية للأكل البيتي 💰 ازاي الستات والأمهات يربحوا من طبخ البيت" (How the Tablya app works for home food: how women and moms can earn from home cooking) and "الربح من تطبيق طبلية" (Earning from the Tablya app), plus "حوّلي طبخك لمصدر دخل" (Turn your cooking into income). These channels follow new money-making apps and bring in supply-side users (women who want to earn from home).

- On TikTok, @mohamed.bnthabet0 (35k followers)10-27 posted an intro video with 94k views, and @mahmoudmustafabusinesawy (26k followers, startup / business niche)10-26 has posted one too. The tech outlet Follow ICT9-29 put out a 35-second video titled "حكاية أبلكيشن طبلية" (only 891 views).

#### 2.4 Why users come now and stay

- **The emotion is "escape Talabat"** : iOS review titles like "بديل طلبات المثالي" (the perfect Talabat alternative) and "بعيد عن الاستغلال في طلبات والأكل الغير مضمون" (away from Talabat's exploitation and unreliable food). Egypt's delivery market is dominated by Talabat. Restaurants complain about commissions and users complain about hygiene, and "clean home-cooked food from moms" fits right in.

- **Strong supply-side motivation** : with inflation in Egypt, women at home want side income. Every product message is written around that ("No need to open a restaurant or a shop. Your kitchen is the starting point").

- **Fast iteration** : on iOS, two-plus months from 3.0 to 5.4.0 (8-27 to 10-21). Early reviews complained about payments freezing, chat freezing, missing notifications, and being unable to change the address. Later versions barely get those complaints anymore.

- Risk signals: reviews say delivery fees are high and waits are long (9-28), and dish prices are higher than restaurants (9-10). Orders go through chatting with the kitchen, and it's unclear who does the delivery (most likely the kitchen finds its own driver).

### 3. Competitors

| Product | Channel | Launched | Scale | How it differs from Tablya |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Akla Bety أكلة بيتي(aklabety.com) | iOS / Android / web | iOS 2026-03-10 | Android 10K+; iOS 0 rating | Nearly the same positioning, launched half a year earlier. Promotes 'delivery partners' and emphasizes hygiene vetting. No founder IP, never took off. |
| Sufretak: Homemade Meals(Quanvex) | iOS / Android | iOS 2026-05-09 | Android 1K+ | Same model, company-run, never took off. |
| HomKitchs(homkitchs.com) | Web | Not verified | Claims 50+ kitchens, 10k+ customers, and 15+ delivery zones. | The platform vets kitchens and does delivery itself, with a heavier ops focus. Tablya's bar is lower: anyone can open a kitchen. |
| Sofra(sofra-eg.com) | Pending launch | 2026 | "Coming soon to Cairo." An iOS app with the same name is listed as 2026-07-03, rated 0. | Same model, cash / Instapay, starting in Cairo. Likely a later entrant to this opportunity. Timing-wise it came before Tablya's growth, so it isn't a copy. |
| طبلية tablia.food (Tanta) | Web | Not verified | Only operates in Tanta, a single city | Same name, localized, strong in-house feel. |
| Matba5, Cooked Homemade Food, Beyti بيتي, El Sofrah | iOS | 2021–2026 | iOS rating 0–5 | Small apps in the same category. None took off. |
| BeetyFood, Mama Leila (ماما ليلى), طبقان | Web / Facebook | Not verified | Not verified | Same category. Promotion is visible on social media, but scale is unknown. |
| "Home-style food" merchants on Talabat and elmenus | Big-company features | Already around | Talabat is Egypt's top delivery app. | Home kitchens can list on Talabat as a 'restaurant' (e.g., Zeinab's Kitchen), but that means commission and credentials. Tablya has no entry barrier and is emotionally 'anti-Talabat'. |
| Shef (US), Daymeh (Jordan, 2016), Mealawe (India) | Overseas | 2016–2021 | Shef raised roughly $8.8M (recalled, not verified) | The model has been validated elsewhere. Egypt has no incumbent. |
| Same-named طبلية (com.tablya.tablya_app, A Plus) | Android | 2026-07 update | 1K+ | Food content + livestreaming. Not the same thing, just the same name. |

**Verdict** : Egypt has no shortage of players in this business. Akla Bety launched half a year earlier, HomKitchs runs heavier ops, but none built real momentum. Tablya's difference **isn't in product features** . It's a founder who makes short videos, plus shareable kitchen links built in.

### 4. What's the differentiation, and is it why it took off?

- Product level: zero-barrier kitchen onboarding (set your own menu and prices, chat with customers to order), with a shareable landing page and QR code for each kitchen. Far lighter than Akla Bety and HomKitchs' 'platform vetting + delivery partners', so supply cold-starts faster.

- Brand level: the name طبلية (the traditional low round table in Egypt where the family eats together) is an emotional symbol on its own. All content is about 'mom' (ماما ايمان, ماما مسعدة), not delivery.

- **The real driver is distribution** : both jumps line up with the founder's viral videos (9-11's video with 635k views, and 9-25's with 887k views). Zero barrier and share links let virality compound, but without the founder's IP it would most likely be a second Akla Bety.

### 5. How many people have seen it

- **Word of mouth in niche circles** : it had a run in local Egyptian Facebook and TikTok groups. No mainstream press coverage found (searches in English and Arabic tech media came up empty). 0 posts on X (x-radar, 90 days). No TrustMRR listing, and revenue is completely undisclosed.

- Revenue: the app is free with no in-app purchases, and the commission model is not public. Founder 10-15 posted "making money also means losing money," which hints they are still burning cash or subsidizing.

- Copycats: I found no clear copy of Tablya. Similar players existed before it (Akla Bety, Sufretak, Sofra).

### 6. Acquisition channel summary

| LinkedIn / 'Egypt #1' hashtag | 9-26 post, 331 reactions | Yes (limited reach) |
| Paid ads | Founder 10-10 posted an ad that makes you want to delete Tablya: looks like a homemade video; the ad library isn't tracking it | Not verified |
| Prompted reviews | Of 1,123 Android ratings, 1-star and 2-star are both 0; the distribution is abnormal. | Unverified (just a suspicion) |

### 7. What others can learn

1. **The founder as the host** : in a small-language market like Arabic, a founder who tells good stories can drive tens of thousands of installs through Facebook Reels / TikTok at almost no cost. The content is about a person (a particular mom), not features.

2. **Give suppliers a shareable store page** : one short link + QR code per seller. Sellers bring their own regulars onto the platform, and the two-sided marketplace cold start suddenly becomes one-sided.

3. **Position on emotion** : don't say 'another delivery app', say 'anti-exploitation / clean / made by mom'.

4. 'Earn from home' channels actively recruit supply for you, so they're worth reaching out to.

### 8. Still unclear

- Retention and conversion: no order volume, GMV, or commission data. How many installers actually order is unknown.

- The direct trigger for the 10-02 to 10-04 Android spike of +29k: timing falls after the 'ماما ايمان' viral hit and the '10-02 calling all provinces' push (possibly opening nationwide), but I found no single piece of evidence.

- I couldn't verify which chart or on which day it was 'No. 1 in Egypt downloads'.

- On Android, 1-star and 2-star both sit at 0. Is there a review prompt?

- How delivery works (kitchen-run or third-party) and the food safety and regulatory risk (10-08 "someone reported Tablya").

- It's falling after the peak: iOS category chart from #7 to #21, Android daily installs down from near 10K to a few hundred. Whether repeat purchases can hold it up needs a few more weeks to tell.
