# Don't sell "restock alert", sell "we got it for you": a solo-built Pokémon card checkout helper, $12.99/month

**What it is** A solo-built Pokémon card checkout helper: free restock alerts on Discord, and a paid membership ($12.99/month) that uses a Chrome extension to refresh on the hour, auto-queue, and check out with authorization in your own browser. The mobile app handles push notifications and handoff.

**Why it took off** Restock alerts are everywhere, yet people still miss out. It takes one step further and clicks for the user. Then the "anti-scalper, MSRP, one account" pitch lets influencers and parents promote it openly. The founder posts release-calendar updates on TikTok daily, funneling people into a free Discord of 10k members and converting them to subscriptions.

**B** **How you could follow** Don't build the eleventh alert app. Use the same structure (browser extension for the action + free Discord funnel + founder-on-camera TikTok + influencer discount codes) and apply it to Labubu, One Piece cards, or sneaker raffles, or to UK or Japan retailers.

Grade B: the playbook is clear and few people know about it, and other categories and regions are still open. But the scale estimate is only a few thousand dollars a month, demand comes in waves around release dates, a retailer or a Chrome Web Store update could kill the extension overnight, and someone has to keep showing up on camera daily. Whispers in niche circles.

DropSync is a solo-built Pokémon card checkout tool. On the US App Store it has only 20 ratings, but for the past 10 days it has sat between #52 and #80 on the Shopping top-grossing chart. The reason: the iOS app is just its mobile face. The money comes from a Chrome extension that refreshes on the atomic clock's hour and auto-queues you into Pokémon Center's line. Users came mostly from the founder's own TikTok videos, one by one. Restock alerts were already crowded, but DropSync went one step further and clicks that button for the user.

### Nov 4, "Do better Pokemon Center"

Nov 4, two days before the new Pokémon set Delta Reign released, the TikTok account @thecharmizard posted a video captioned just: "Do better Pokemon Center. Do better." By Nov 6 it had 27k views, the account's best performer in the past week. Over the next few days it posted one or two a day: Nov 2, "Good luck my friends! #target" with 17k views; Nov 3, two videos on Walmart's delayed restock; and Nov 6 early morning: "Last night was a milestone for our members. I know not everyone got one, but we gave it everything." (TikHub, 11-06)

The account has 7,118 followers and 468 posts, with the bio "It's me... Tori." Tori Elstrom is the DropSync developer. On the App Store they are an individual developer with this one app only; by day job they are a developer marketing lead at a YC company.

### What it actually sells

The website headline is "Beat the scalpers. Get your cards at MSRP." The homepage explains concretely why users miss out: "A release sells out in 90 seconds, and bots get there first. Regular fans don't lose because they're slow. They lose because their clock is two seconds off and they're refreshing by hand."

So here's what it sells:

- **On-the-minute drops** : synced to an atomic clock, so the page refreshes the second the sale opens. The homepage headline reads "9:00:00.000, on the dot, not :01".

- **Auto-queue, authorized checkout** : it joins Pokémon Center's virtual queue automatically. For Target's "guarded checkout" and Walmart's draw entries, the user has to confirm scope and limits before it acts.

- **Free alerts live on Discord** : restock alerts cost nothing, and the server has 10k members.

- **Mobile app** : lock-screen restock push, one tap to the retailer's product page, plus a release calendar and card valuation scanner.

Pricing is Plus at $12.99/month or $129.99/year. Website sign-up goes through Stripe, and you can also subscribe in the app (the terms say billing is via Stripe or the app store, depending on the channel).

Its messaging deliberately distances it from scalper tools: "0 bots, just you, faster." It runs in your own logged-in browser, single account, no stored passwords. The homepage also says: "One hot drop, hundreds of thousands of people chasing a few thousand boxes. No tool changes that math, including us. We give you a chance, not a guarantee."

### The numbers: the app is small, but the whole setup isn't

| Channel | Scale | Sources, dates |
|---|---|---|
| iOS (listed 2026-08-12) | US store 20 ratings, averaging about 3.6; 10-28 at 12 | App Store,11-06 |
| US store Shopping Top Grossing | Ranked #10-28–11-06 daily from 52–80, 11-05 and 11-06 are 52 | App Store charts |
| Discord | 6,556 (08-15) → 10,575 members, 1,767 online (11-06) | disdex, Discord invite page |
| Chrome extension | About 4,000 users, 49 ratings averaging 3.9 stars, 10-30 updated 1.7.4 | Third-party stats, Chrome Web Store |
| Android | 2026-10 listed, installs unknown | AppBrain |

How good is a Top Grossing rank of #52? On the same day, on the same chart, the veteran restock alert HotStock was #6, TrackaLacker #17, Restockr X #43, PokeRestock #44. That's mid-pack in a niche category, which suggests in-app purchases in the low thousands of dollars a month (inference, not verified). Plenty of people pay the extension directly on its website, which doesn't show up in the App Store, so total revenue is likely higher than the chart implies. Its Canadian store rating is 0, yet its Top Grossing rank bounces between #21 and #175, which means a handful of subscriptions can move it dozens of spots there. Don't read too much into it.

The timeline tells the story too: in June they built the Discord, launched the website and a Chrome extension, and a Product Hunt launch got only 4 votes. The iOS app came in Aug 12, the same day a TikTok posted "When app?! Now!" Mobile came later, as an afterthought.

### Where users come from

**The founder is the face.** Tutorials ("How to use the DropSync app + extension to grab Target", 8-1.31M views), live drop footage, "community member scored one" (10-16 "every time I see a real collector win I laugh"), and rants at Pokémon Center all come from this one account. During release weeks it posts one or two a day, and individual posts range from a hundred-plus to over thirty thousand views.

**Mid-tier Pokémon creators.** In July, @tara_bell_ (25,23k followers) posted a recommendation to 48k views, captioned "free Discord link... use code TaraBell for 85% off your first month of the subscription. Beat the scalpers and bots, get Pokémon at retail for your kids!" In August, @ghosthustletcg (26,25k followers) made a review: "No guarantees you'll get one, but it improves your odds of buying at retail. Auto-add-to-cart costs money, Discord is free." Creators get their own discount codes, which probably means a revenue share, but whether they were paid isn't visible.

**The free Discord is the funnel.** Free alerts pull people in, and pre-release info plus haul posts keep them there before they convert to Plus. Sign-up also offers "refer a friend, half off your first month".

**Word of mouth.** On Reddit's r/PokemonTCGCollectors someone wrote: "I used dropsync to watch restocks, the moment the queue opened it got me in automatically, and I scored a pile from the 30 anniversary batch."

**The release calendar itself.** The 30 anniversary (9-16) and Delta Reign (11-06) came in waves, Pokémon Center moved to a virtual queue with purchase limits, and Target and Walmart switched to draws or timed drops. Everyone who misses out vents online every time. Demand comes in bursts tied to release days.

What I couldn't find: no press coverage, almost no mentions on X in the last 90 days, and no way to check whether it runs Meta ads.

### Who it's competing with

The alert-only app space is already crowded. PokeNotify only reached iOS in August and already has 775 ratings, adding 230 a week, with 47k Android installs, and it's growing far faster than DropSync. Restockd is free with 3,361 ratings. TrackaLacker, HotStock, and CCN all rank above it on Top Grossing. From 2025 September to 2026 October, a string of smaller apps launched, including PokeRestock, Restockr X, PokeAlert, and PokeDrops (App Store, 11-06).

On the other end are the checkout bots like Stellar AIO and Swooper AIO: multi-account, proxy-backed, fully automated, expensive, and never going to be openly promoted on TikTok.

DropSync sits between the two. It does one step more than an alert tool, which is why it can charge $13 a month. It's more restrained than a bot, which is why creators will promote it and parents buy in (its videos often carry #parentsoftiktok). That position is what has driven it so far. The iOS app itself isn't special.

### If it were you

**The verdict** : worth a shot, but don't build the eleventh restock-alert app. What's worth copying is the structure: take an information tool one step further by doing the action for the user, frame it as "on the side of regular people", have the founder front the TikTok, and use a free Discord as the funnel.

**Who it suits** : one or two people who are already inside a limited-drop community (cards, designer toys, sneakers, tickets), can write a browser extension, and are willing to be on camera posting short videos daily.

**Who it doesn't suit** : people who don't want to show their face or don't know the community; people who can't handle "the retailer changes its flow and the feature needs fixing overnight"; teams aiming for large, stable revenue. At current volume, this is a business doing a few thousand to maybe ten or twenty thousand dollars a month (inference).

**How to do it:**

1. Switch categories: Labubu and Pop Mart blind boxes, One Piece and Lorcana cards (DropSync is already expanding into both), sneaker raffles, concert presales. Pick one where the official side has moved to queues or draws and fans are complaining every day.

2. Switch regions: the UK, Japan, and Australia, with their own Pokémon Centers and local retailers. The rules differ, and the US tools may not cover them.

3. Start with a Chrome extension and a free Discord, then add a mobile app once you have paying users. One price for membership that works across phone, desktop, and community.

4. Keep its messaging: retail price, anti-scalper, single account, no stored passwords, "no guarantees". That helps creators feel safe promoting it, and it also draws less attention from the platforms.

**How to get customers** : post on your own TikTok following the release calendar: tutorials, live drop footage, member hauls, and rants at the official side, every day around each release. Find creators with 1 to 30k followers inside the community and give them personal discount codes. Put referral codes in the Discord.

**When to move** : ride the category's heat. This Pokémon wave is the 30 anniversary plus the dense autumn release schedule. If you switch categories, get the extension and Discord running before the next big release in that category.

**What would mean I got it wrong** : ① Target, Pokémon Center, or the Chrome Web Store starts blocking these extensions, or changes checkout so the automation stops working; ② DropSync's Top Grossing rank falls out of the top 100 after the November release and the Discord stops growing, which would show demand only follows a few big releases and can't support a monthly subscription; ③ a big alert app like PokeNotify adds auto-queue, and this middle position disappears.

## DropSync (iOS 6794956693) research report

> In one line: DropSync is a Pokémon card "drop assistant" built by one person (Tori Elstrom, day job is developer marketing lead at YC company Depot). It's more than a restock alert. The core pitch is a Chrome extension: it refreshes on the atomic clock, auto-queues you into Pokémon Center's waiting room, auto-checks out at Target with authorization, and auto-enters Walmart's raffles. It uses a free Discord to pull users in, then sells a Plus subscription ($12.99/mo, $129.99/yr). Nearly all users came from the founder's own TikTok account @thecharmizard (nickname ChaseDex), video by video. The iOS app is just the phone side of this, so it has only 20 ratings yet steadily sits around #50 on the US Shopping Top Grossing chart.

### 1. How to read the data card (correcting first)

- **Few ratings, but consistently on the chart** : 20 total US ratings (10-28 of them 12), average 3.65 (iTunes lookup, 2026-11-06). From 10-28 to 11-06, the 10 days, the US Shopping Top Grossing chart held it between #52 and #80 each day; on 11-05 and 11-06 it was #52 (appstore library, chart_rank).

- **Take the Canada line with a grain of salt** : the Canadian rating count is 0, yet its chart rank jumps between #21 and #175 (10-28 #21 → 11-04 #175 → 11-05 #21). That means the Canadian Shopping Top Grossing chart has a very low bar: a few subscriptions can move an app dozens of spots, so it's not evidence of scale.

- **What #52 on the US Top Grossing chart looks like** : on the same day, US Shopping Top Grossing had HotStock at #6, TrackaLacker at #17, Restockr X at #43, PokeRestock at #44, and DropSync at #52; right next to them were VIN-lookup and sneaker-raffle apps (appstore library, 2026-11-06). This is the middle of a niche category, so estimated monthly revenue is in the low thousands of dollars (estimate, unverified).

- **In-app purchases are only part of the revenue** : the website signup flow runs through Stripe, with Community and Plus tiers and a referral code (first month half price for friends). The terms of service list Plus at $12.99/mo and $129.99/yr, "billed by Stripe or the app store depending on the subscription channel" (dropsync.chasedex.com/setup, /terms, version 2026-11-05). Plus is built around the desktop extension, so many people likely pay on the web, meaning the iOS chart only reflects part of the income.

- **A mistake in the recall rationale** : the recall says "ChaseDex, from the same author, is almost unknown." That's accurate: ChaseDex: TCG Card Tracker (listed under id 6758054613,2026-05-06) has a US rating of 0. But treating it as having "about 20 installs" is wrong: DropSync's real user base is in Discord and the Chrome extension (see section 3).

### 2. Timeline

| Timeline | Event | Sources |
|---|---|---|
| 2026-05-06 | Built ChaseDex (iOS), a card-scanning valuation app; it didn't gain traction | iTunes lookup |
| 2026-06-18 | Created the Discord "ChaseDex - DropSync" | disdex.io |
| late 2026-06 | Website and Chrome extension launched; posted once on Product Hunt, 4 votes, not featured | listed on vuink.com 6-24; hunted.space |
| 2026-06-26 / 07-15 | Founder posted tutorial and "got one" videos on TikTok, 19k and 33k views | TikHub |
| 2026-07-25 | Creator @tara_bell_ (23k followers) recommended DropSync and the free Discord on their own, 48k views | TikHub |
| 2026-08-12 | iOS app launched; same day TikTok "When app?! Now!" | iTunes, TikHub |
| 2026-08-15 | Discord 6,556 members | disdex.io |
| 2026-08-26 | Creator @ghosthustletcg (25k followers) posted a review | TikHub |
| 2026-09-16 / 11-06 | 30th Celebration and Delta Reign, two release events | Website release calendar |
| 2026-10 | Android version launched (com.chasedex.dropsync) | AppBrain |
| 2026-10-30 | Chrome extension updated to 1.7.4; store shows 49 ratings, 3.9 stars | Chrome Web Store |
| 2026-11-06 | Discord 10,575 members, 1,767 online | Discord invite API |

### 3. Scale (beyond the app)

- **Discord** : 6,556 members (2026-08-15, disdex) → 10,575 members, 1,767 online (2026-11-06, Discord invite API). Grew by about 3 members in under 4,000 months. The free restock alerts live here and are the main funnel.

- **Chrome extension** : about 4K users (per ExtScope, when it was at version 1.6.9); Chrome Web Store shows 49 ratings, 3.9 stars. Our chromestore library only captured the id and didn't fetch details.

- **iOS** : 20 ratings; **Android** : 2026-10 listed, not in our googleplay library.

- **TikTok @thecharmizard** : 7,118 followers, 468 videos, 176k total likes, bio reads "It's me... Tori." From 11-02 to 11-06 it posted 1–2 videos a day, with per-video views ranging from 98 to 27,491 (TikHub, 2026-11-06).

### 4. Competitors

| Competitors | Platform | Launched | Scale (US store) | How it differs from DropSync |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PokeNotify | iOS/Android/Discord | 2026-08-10(iOS) | iOS 775 ratings, +7 in 230 days; Shopping/Reference free chart #36; Play 47k installs, +7 in 4,905 days | Only does online and offline restock alerts and community, no browser automation; growing an order of magnitude faster than DropSync |
| Restockd | iOS/Android | 2025-04-29 | 3,361 ratings, 4.87 stars; free | Free multi-category alerts (Pokémon, Labubu, GPUs), built for volume |
| TrackaLacker | iOS/web | 2025-07-30 | 3,034 ratings, +7 in 158 days, Shopping Top Grossing #17 | Multi-category alerts plus subscriptions, earning more than DropSync |
| HotStock | iOS | 2017 | 15,232 ratings, Shopping Top Grossing #6 | Veteran general-purpose restock alerts |
| TYPA | iOS | 2025-05-02 | 2,990 ratings, +202 in 7 days | Alerts plus tracking |
| CCN: TCG & Collectible Alerts | iOS | 2022-03-28 | 2,062 ratings, Top Grossing #26 | UK team's collectibles alert subscription |
| PokeRestock / Restockr X / Guppy / Pingr / PokeAlert / PokeDrops / DropNotify | iOS | launched between 2025-09 and 2026-10 | Ratings ranging from 1 to 389; PokeRestock Top Grossing #44, Restockr X Top Grossing #43 | All small alert apps; alerts alone are hard to differentiate |
| Stellar AIO, Swooper AIO and other checkout bots | Desktop/web | Already around | High price, requires proxies | Fully automated multi-account checkout, what DropSync calls "scalper tools"; DropSync only runs in the user's own logged-in browser, per single account, and only with authorization |
| Visualping, paid Discord groups (HOC, etc.) | Web/Discord | Already around | — | Web change monitoring / manual intel groups with bots |

(ratings and ranks from the appstore library 2026-11-06; Play data from the googleplay library)

**Bottom line** : the restock-alert lane is already crowded (10 iOS apps, big free ones). DropSync sits between an alert app and a scalper bot: it goes beyond alerts by doing the precise click for you, and it separates itself from bots with "only helps real fans, one account, your own browser, never stores passwords."

### 5. Where users come from

1. **Founder runs TikTok herself (confirmed, main channel)** : @thecharmizard is Tori herself. Tutorials, live drop footage, "community members got it," and rage videos about Pokémon Center all go up here, 1–2 posts a day during drop week. The top post hit 33k views (07-15), and 11-04's "Do better Pokemon Center" has 27k. The linktree and Discord are the funnel.

2. **Mid-tier Pokémon creator recommendations (confirmed, paid status unclear)** : @tara_bell_ (23k followers, 48k views, 07-25), @ghosthustletcg (25k followers, 12k views, 08-26 review), @officialiggy352 (7k followers). Several Facebook pages also have videos describing DropSync as "automatically gets you in line" (search snippets).

3. **Free Discord funnel plus referral code (confirmed)** : free alerts live in Discord, 10k+ members; the paid tier includes "half off the first month for friend referrals."

4. **Word of mouth on Reddit / Facebook groups (confirmed, small volume)** : r/PokemonTCGCollectors has a user saying "I use dropsync to monitor restocks, and when the queue opens it gets me in automatically. Got a pile of 30 anniversary stock."

5. **Drop events and platform changes (confirmed)** : since 2025, Pokémon Center has used virtual queues and purchase limits, Target and Walmart moved to lotteries or timed releases, and the 30 anniversary (9-16) and Delta Reign (11-06) launches came one after another. Demand has come in waves tied to these events.

6. **Affiliate commissions (stated in the terms)** : some links on the site, extension, Discord, and social accounts are affiliate links, a second revenue stream.

7. **What we couldn't find** : Product Hunt has only 4 votes; x-radar shows dropsync with 0 posts in the last 90 days; no press coverage; our Meta ad library doesn't track it (not finding ads doesn't mean there were none).

### 6. Why it charted

- **It sells "getting it," not "knowing about it"** : free alerts are everywhere (Restockd, Discord servers), but knowing still doesn't get you the item. DropSync says the reason users miss out is "your clock is two seconds off, you're refreshing by hand," then sells atomic-clock-synced refreshes at the top of the hour, automatic Pokémon Center queuing, Target checkout guarding, and Walmart auto-lottery. An alert app or paid group can't deliver these, which is why it can charge $12.99/month.

- **The "on the fan's side" stance lets it promote openly through creators** : scalper bots can't push publicly on TikTok. DropSync talks about "helping parents and kids buy at retail price," plus honest lines like "0 bots," "no guarantees," and "we never store passwords." Creators are willing to promote it, and parent communities accept it (videos tagged #parentsoftiktok #grandmasoftiktok).

- **The founder is the product's face** : she comes from marketing, posts to TikTok daily, and videos like "community members got it" are the best ads it has.

- **Extension and Discord first, app later** : the Discord and extension launched in June, and the iOS app only came in August, so those 20 iOS ratings badly understate real usage.

- **Good timing** : the Pokémon 30 anniversary plus a dense 2026 autumn release schedule, with Pokémon Center queues and Target sell-outs in the news every day.

### 7. Differentiation

The edge is **semi-automated buying wrapped in a compliant shell** : it runs in the user's own logged-in browser, single account, with authorized precise actions, plus a free Discord community, and one membership covers phone, desktop, and community. Competing apps only alert; bots are fully automated across many accounts and can't be promoted openly. DropSync fills the middle, and that middle happens to be monetizable and openly recommendable by creators. **That's why it took off** . The iOS app itself (alerts, redirects, card scanning) is not the differentiator.

Risks: retailers' anti-bot measures (Target and Pokémon Center could block the extension or change flows); ratings of only 3.6 and extension 3.9, and "didn't get it" is the normal state, so complaints will pile up; Chrome Web Store policy risk for "auto-checkout" extensions.

### 8. Visibility

It's circulating in small circles. Pokémon collector TikTok and Discord (10k+) have people talking about it, but there's no public revenue, no press coverage, almost no mentions on X, and 4 votes on Product Hunt.

### 9. What to borrow

- In the "information tool" category, taking one step further to act for the user lets the price go from free to $13/month.

- Packaging semi-automation as "on the side of ordinary people, against scalpers" makes it easy for creators and platforms to recommend publicly.

- The founder fronts daily TikTok content that follows the drop calendar; a free Discord serves as the funnel with referral-driven growth; the mobile app is just one endpoint for members.

- This playbook can move to other "limited drop" categories: Labubu, sneakers, concert tickets, GPUs, Lorcana, One Piece (it's already expanding to Lorcana and One Piece itself).

### 10. Uncertain

- The real paying user count and the split between web and in-app purchase revenue (unverified); what 52 on the US Top Grossing chart translates to in dollars is only an inference.

- Whether creators were paid or took referral-code commissions (unverified).

- The Chrome extension user count is only "4K" from the third-party ExtScope listing; the official Chrome Web Store page doesn't show it. Android install numbers are unclear.

- Whether retailers will push back (block the extension, change checkout flows).

- Whether Meta ads were run (our library doesn't track it).
