A $19.99 cancellation letter: Submo from the Turkish app factory is the third wave of copycats in the "cancel subscriptions" niche

What it is A subscription ledger and cancellation guide app. It tracks what you're charged each month, reminds you before renewals, and shows you how to cancel. It sells $9.99 a week subscriptions and a $19.99 mailed paper cancellation letter.

Why it took off Users worry they're still paying for forgotten subscriptions, and they pay at the moment they most want to stop the bleeding. Developers use the local-language "cancel subscriptions" as the App Store title in each country, collect payment through a web quiz funnel, and small-country finance charts have low enough bars that a few subscriptions get charted.

DHow you could follow it Don't follow the category; copy the playbook: use high-intent local-language keywords in store titles, use small-country finance top-grossing charts for cold-start signals, and pair one-time high-price services with weekly subscriptions. Then apply it to adjacent anxiety-driven niches like refunds and deposit recovery.

Grade D: the category demand is real, but Rocket Money, Subpilot and Feenko already hold the space, and over the past 2026 years a wave of Turkish and Eastern European app factories has piled in to copy it. Submo itself is a late copycat, and it only reached 4,000 Play installs with paid acquisition behind it. Small teams without an ad budget have little room to follow. Nobody knows about it yet

Submo is a subscription management app. It keeps a record of what you're charged each month and tells you how to cancel when you want out. It ranked #10 on Paraguay's App Store finance top-grossing chart, which makes it look like it took off in Latin America. In fact it has only about a dozen iOS ratings worldwide, and most of its volume is on Google Play and the web. It is built by a 2–10 person Turkish app factory using a playbook others proved 2025 years ago: local-language names in each country, a web quiz that collects payment, and weekly subscriptions.

Oct 18, a two-star review

On Oct 18, 2026, a US App Store user named FeralByte404 gave Submo a 2-star review titled "Useless Unless You Pay":

"It won't even connect to your bank unless you pay... and it wants $19.99 for a cancellation letter. A letter costs almost $20. I've never heard of cancelling a subscription by mail."

He also described the free tier: manual entry of subscriptions and uploading a single bank statement, capped at 3 entries, with Gmail showing "coming soon".

This review lays out Submo's business in full. Users arrive worried that "I'm still paying for subscriptions I forgot." The app collects money at that moment: a $9.99-a-week Pro plan, a $19.99 / $69.99 (yearly) Premium plan, and a $19.99 printed paper cancellation letter that they mail for you (App Store in-app purchase list).

What it is

A subscription ledger plus a cancellation guide.

  • Puts Netflix, Spotify, gym memberships and AI tools, all billed monthly, in one list and calculates what you spend per month and per year.
  • Reminds you a few days before renewals and before free trials end.
  • Walks you through cancelling step by step for each service; for ones that can't be cancelled in-app, you pay for it to send a letter.
  • After paying, you can connect your bank (the website says Plaid) to find subscriptions automatically.

2026-08-23 launched on Google Play first, 2026-09-11 on iOS, and the app is English only. The developer is Samson's MobileOcean, which also runs Vimo AI video generation (1.12M Play installs), Shot AI avatars, scanning, Authenticator and cleanup apps, a whole set of AI and utility subscription apps (App Store, Google Play, 11-06).

How much it actually grew

Not many, and mostly not on iOS.

#10 in Paraguay sounds good, but an app with 0 ratings making that chart suggests a handful of subscriptions a day is enough there (inference). On the same chart that day, #8 SubSeek, #19 VUNYO's "Cancelar Suscripciones, Ahorro" and #22 Subpilot were also cancel-subscription apps.

Something's off with the Play ratings: 4,000 installs and nearly 400 ratings, about 9.5%. A typical utility app usually sits at 1–2%. The top "review" on the Play page comes from 2026-09-06, and it's two numbered blocks: "*1. 5-Star Simple* "Submo saved me so much money!..." *2. Problem-Solved* "..."". It looks like someone pasted a whole review template. Heavy in-app prompting for ratings is a given; I haven't verified whether these were fake.

Where users come from

Each country gets a local-language name. The app is English only, but the Spanish-speaking store is "Cancelar Suscripciones: Submo", Brazil and Portugal are "Cancelar Assinaturas", Germany is "Abonnement Kündigen", France is "Gérer mes Abonnements", and Spain is "Cancel Subscriptions & Refund" (Apple storefront pages, 11-06). The titles use the words locals type when searching "how to cancel a subscription".

Quiz-funnel web page. The submoapp.com homepage has one button, "Find my subscriptions," which opens a quiz. The page header reads "$45.4K saved today!" and "100K+ users," yet Play plus iOS add up to only a few thousand users. The terms say web payments run through Stripe and mailings go out via PostGrid. This "quiz → web payment → download the app" structure usually relies on Meta and TikTok ads for traffic. Feenko 11-06, a competitor in the same niche, runs 410 ads on Meta at the same time, many of them in Spanish, and its landing page is the same kind of quiz funnel (Meta Ad Library). How much Submo spends on paid acquisition is unknown; I couldn't find it.

What didn't work: the official YouTube promo "Find your Subscriptions with Submo" has 16 views; searching "submo" on TikTok only turns up a sandwich shop with the same name; nobody mentions it on X in 60 days; there's no press coverage.

Who it's competing with

This section is the key point: Submo is not a pioneer. Several earlier waves of players already came before it.

The timeline is clear: Rocket Money proved Americans will pay to "help me cut subscription costs"; in 2025, Subpilot and Feenko turned it into global paid acquisition plus a weekly subscription, reaching hundreds of thousands of installs; in 2026, app factories in Turkey and Eastern Europe copied it in batches. On iOS, 2025–2026 years brought 40+ similar new apps. Nothing Submo sells (cancellation guides, reminders, multi-currency, letter-mailing service) is unique to it, and mailing letters is something sites like subdelete.com have been doing for a long time. Its only difference is distribution: multilingual titles, plus iOS, Play and web launched together.

If it were you

D. Take a look, but don't enter this category. The demand is real and so is the money, but you'd be chasing "followers of the followers": Subpilot and Feenko got in a year earlier with paid acquisition one or two orders of magnitude bigger, and behind them a string of app factories with ready-made acquisition teams are fighting over the same keywords and the same Paraguay chart. Submo has factory backing of its own and still reached only 4,000 installs on Play.

适合谁:已经有 web2app 买量团队、手里有订阅漏斗的 App 工厂,把它当成矩阵里多一款,赌一下某个还没人起本地名字的语种。

Who it doesn't suit: indie devs with no acquisition budget or ad experience. This category barely grows on organic traffic (Submo's 16 YouTube views and 0 TikTok buzz are examples). It also doesn't suit anyone hoping to win on product differentiation: users pay impulsively when anxious, and what decides survival is ad creative and funnel conversion, not features.

How to do it: learn a few of its tactics rather than building the same category. ① Use high-intent local-language search terms as titles in each store region; even an English-only app can catch searches in smaller languages. ② The bar for the category chart in small countries is very low, so use it as a "we charted" signal during cold start. ③ At the moment users most want to stop losses, bundle a one-time high-priced service (a $19.99 letter-mailing service) with a weekly subscription. This works for any "stop-the-loss anxiety" tool: refunds, deposit recovery, consumer claims, cancelling auto-renewing memberships.

How to acquire users: this type of product runs on Meta and TikTok paid acquisition plus a web quiz funnel, collecting payment through Stripe to bypass store commissions. Study Feenko's Spanish videos for creative; you can find them directly in the Meta ad library.

Is it too late?: this category's window has mostly closed. Regulation is also a risk: the US FTC keeps pushing for "cancel with one click", and store review of "cancel subscription" marketing may tighten. Subpilot users are already asking online how to get refunds.

Where this call could be wrong: ① If Submo reached 50k installs on Play before December, or ranked in the top 50 of a major region's finance chart on iOS, it shows late entrants can still win share through multilingual reach, and the category is wider than it looks. ② Search terms for "cancel subscription" in some smaller languages (such as Turkish, Indonesian or Vietnamese) remain unclaimed, so a newcomer could take the top spots there with ASO alone. ③ Conversely, if Apple or Google builds "find all subscriptions, cancel in one tap" into the system, this path closes for everyone.

Cancelar Suscripciones: Submo (ios_6796041389) research report

In short: Turkish tool-app studio MobileOcean (Mobileocean Bilişim Yazılım A.Ş., Samsun) runs a "cancel subscriptions" management app, launched 2026 between 8 and September. It is a late follower of the "Cancel Subscriptions" wave that began in 2025 (Subpilot, Feenko, SubSeek, Subee…). Volume on iOS is nearly nil; the real traffic is on Google Play and the web. The playbook is paid acquisition that pushes people into a web quiz funnel, then a weekly subscription, plus a $19.99 "letter-mailing to cancel" add-on.

Stores checked: the appstore library scanned every region (115 stores); it charted only in py, co (11-06) and gb (11-01, 11-02). Separately, names and rating counts were checked via Apple lookup for 27 regions, and the googleplay library was checked across all regions.

1. What the data says

iOS (appstore library, 2026-11-06)

  • Listed 2026-09-11, version 1.0.8 (2026-10-15). Rating counts: US 6 (4.5 average), UK 2, India 2, Canada 1; all other regions are 0 (Apple lookup, checked 11-06). Global iOS ratings total about 11.
  • Charted: Paraguay Finance Top Grossing #10, Colombia Finance Top Grossing #26 (11-06); UK Finance Top Grossing #137 → #120 (11-01, 11-02). Never charted on the overall chart.
  • Paraguay #10 is a low bar, and that chart is packed with "cancel subscription" apps: on the same day, Paraguay Finance Top Grossing #8 was SubSeek: Mis Suscripciones, #19 was VUNYO's Cancelar Suscripciones, Ahorro, #22 was Subpilot, and #10 was Submo. An app with 0 ratings reaching #10 suggests a few subscriptions a day is enough there (inferred). The recall card's claim that "Latin American paid acquisition drives revenue" is only half right: it charts in Latin America because the bar is low, not because it performs best there.
  • Localized names for ASO: Spanish-speaking regions use "Cancelar Suscripciones: Submo", Brazil / Portugal use "Cancelar Assinaturas: Submo", Germany uses "Abonnement Kündigen: Submo", France uses "Gérer mes Abonnements Submo", Spain uses "Cancel Subscriptions & Refund", and English regions use "Cancel Subscriptions: Submo" (Apple lookup, 11-06). The titles carry high-intent local-language search terms, but the app itself is English only (languageCodes lists only EN).

Google Play (googleplay library, 2026-10-29 to 11-06). Most of the volume is here.

  • Package name cancel.subscriptions.submo, first released 2026-08-23 (about 3 weeks before iOS).
  • Installs 2,088 (10-29) → 2,521 (11-01) → 3,696 (11-03) → 3,968 (11-06); 8 days +1,880, nearly doubled.
  • Ratings 253 → 375 (+122 over 8 days). Rating-to-install ratio about 9.5%, where a normal utility app is typically 1–2%, suggesting heavy in-app rating prompts and possibly review farming (see section 4). The 1-star count rose from 3 to 20; average rating 4.59 → 4.50.
  • Charts: Play US Finance Top Grossing 48 (10-29) → 34 (11-03, 11-04) → 36 (11-06). Over a dozen regions such as NG, IN, HK, PH, MX and TR show nearly the same rank (40–48). Per the channel notes, this is one aggregated chart, not a result achieved separately in each country. In-app purchase range $6.99–$69.99.

Same developer (MobileOcean)

  • 11 apps on iOS: Vimo AI video generation (1,982 ratings, charted in 28 regions, the main one), Shot AI avatars, Scan AI, AI Logo, Authenticator, Cleaner, moCar widgets, and more (appstore library). On Play, Vimo AI has 1.12M installs and +7k over 20 days (googleplay library 11-06). This studio runs an AI and utility subscription app pipeline with paid acquisition experience; Submo is their new entry into the "cancel subscriptions" space. LinkedIn lists the company at 2–10 employees.

Bottom line: the space already had players. Submo isn't a first mover, it's a third or fourth-wave copycat. After Subpilot / Feenko proved the model in 2025 with "paid acquisition + weekly subscriptions," app factories in Turkey and Eastern Europe (BEGAMOB, APPNATION, MobileOcean, Madze…) piled in over the next 2026 years.

3. Where users come from

This is exactly the Feenko pattern: Meta ads → web funnel. The funnel is confirmed; Submo's own Meta ads are not in our metaads library (the library only tracks Pages on its list, so not finding them doesn't mean they aren't running)

4. Why it's working (and how big)

  1. It's not big yet. On iOS it has about 11 ratings globally, and it only shows up in Top Grossing Finance charts in Paraguay and Colombia, where the bar is very low. On Play it has 4,000 installs and ranks 30 in US Top Grossing Finance. This is early traction, not a breakout.
  2. The money comes from high-priced subscriptions and one-time cancellation letters. iOS in-app purchases: Weekly Pro $9.99, Premium $19.99 / $69.99 (annual), Cancellation Notice Letter $19.99 (recall card); Play in-app purchases $6.99–$69.99. Users also have to pay to link a bank (a 2-star US review: "You can't link your bank without paying for it… $19.99 for a cancellation letter"). Users come in driven by the anxiety of "you're still paying for subscriptions you forgot," and pay at the moment they most want to stop the bleeding; each paying user is worth a lot, which makes the paid acquisition math work (inferred).
  3. Copying a proven template and spreading it to new languages and channels. Demand for the category was already proven by Rocket Money (#2 US Top Grossing Finance) and Subpilot / Feenko; Feenko is running 410 Meta ads right now, with lots of Spanish creative (metaads 11-06), which suggests the Spanish-market paid math works. Submo followed suit with multilingual store titles plus a web funnel.
  4. The developer already has paid acquisition and subscription infrastructure. MobileOcean built its subscription funnel and ad-buying know-how through Vimo AI, so Submo can copy it cheaply.

5. Differentiation

  • The pitch is "data stays on your device," multi-currency support, step-by-step cancellation guides by service, plus mailing paper cancellation letters for you (printed and mailed by PostGrid, with manual review). None of this is unique in the category: cancellation guides are everywhere, letter-mailing sites like subdelete.com have done it for years, and Rocket Money goes deeper (cancels and negotiates bills for you).
  • The only real difference is in the distribution layer: multilingual keyword titles, pushed across iOS, Play and web at once. The product itself has no differentiation, and differentiation isn't why it's growing; it's growing on category demand plus a paid-acquisition template.

6. How many people know about it

  • Revenue isn't public, no press coverage, no buzz on X or TikTok. But the category is already crowded: there are 4 cancel-subscription apps in Paraguay's top 22 Finance Top Grossing, and 40+ similar products have launched on iOS in the last 2025–2026 years. Submo itself is still unknown, but the playbook is public.

7. Takeaways

  • "Stop-the-bleeding" tools (cancel subscriptions, refunds, getting money back) can bundle a one-time high-priced service (letter for $19.99) with weekly subscriptions.
  • Use high-intent local-language keywords in each store's title. Even with an English-only app, you pick up search volume in smaller languages. Small-country Top Grossing charts have very low bars and can serve as launch-stage charting signals.
  • A web quiz funnel with Stripe checkout avoids store commissions and makes Meta ads easier to run.
  • Risks: regulation like the FTC's "click-to-cancel" rule, store review of misleading "cancel" marketing, and refund disputes (Subpilot already has refund complaint threads on JustAnswer) all land on products like this.

8. Still unclear

  • Whether Submo runs ads on Meta / TikTok / Google, and how much (our ad libraries don't include this Page or domain).
  • How much web (Stripe) revenue there is; store data shows none of it.
  • What share of the Play ratings are fake.
  • "100K+ users" is almost certainly inflated (Play has under 4,000 installs, iOS about 11 ratings), but how many web users there are is unverified.
