39 ratings push it into Taiwan's Education chart: "Naiwa Ages" didn't blow up on its own, the 16 apps behind it did
What it is A pet app starring Naiwa ("milk frog"): talk to it and it repeats you in a goofy voice, poke it and it reacts, you can screen-record and share. Free with ads, NT$90 for Pro.
为什么火了 同一个开发者的主力款 10/26 加了「家族入口」、11/3 出了繁体中文版,把台湾那波奶蛙热的流量导过来,再加上台湾教育榜门槛低,30 多个评分就上了榜。
CHow you can follow Don't clone a Naiwa mimic app. Copy the meme-matrix play instead, for the next meme: first ship one polished flagship to build users, then split the same IP into several small apps in different categories, cross-promoting through a family entrance.

"Naiwa Ages" is a "talking Tom Cat"-style repeat-pet app, with the star swapped for "Naiwa", the biggest Chinese meme of 2026. Nov 2 it had zero ratings, yet by Nov 6 it was ranked #30 to #39 on Taiwan's Education Free chart. But across all storefronts it has only 40 ratings, probably a few thousand downloads. What's really worth looking at is the person behind it: one developer with 16 apps, 7 of them Naiwa-themed, where a flagship reached 140k ratings and then one app after another funneled traffic to sibling apps. Below: what it is, where this volume came from, how it makes money, and what you can take from it.
A video of "turning a friend's entire home into Naiwa"
In Oct 26, a Taiwan TikTok account posted a prank video titled "While my friend wasn't home, I turned his whole house into Naiwa", reaching 376k views by early November. That same week Naiwa was everywhere on Taiwan campuses: the Taipei City University "Naiwa Campus Trip" ran from Oct 19 to Nov 2, Naiwa showed up at Chung Hsing University's anniversary run, and Neo Weekly wrote in Oct 23 that "Naiwa has appeared on campuses across Greater China, even North America."
Naiwa Ages is one member of that "family."
What it is
A Naiwa living on the moon. You talk to it without pressing any buttons, it perks up and listens, then repeats back to you in a "heavy, silly voice", with a girl-voice option. Poking the head, belly, or legs each gets a reaction; actions, food, props, and collabs give 40+ ways to play: feed it a burger, have it drink bubble tea, chew a meteorite, swallow the whole galaxy. One-tap screen recording, with a Naiwa watermark on the videos. The last line of the store description: "Warning: this app is highly contagious."
The mechanic isn't new. 2010's "Talking Tom Cat" did exactly this: talk to it, it mimics your voice, poke it and it moves. Naiwa Ages only swapped the character.
Launched Aug 17, and for the next two and a half months almost nobody used it. The Nov 4 1.0.3 update added the real core: auto-listen and repeat, one-tap recording, action categories, plus a Pro in-app purchase.
Where this volume came from
| Date | Ratings across all stores | Taiwan Education Free chart |
|---|---|---|
| 11-02 | 0 | — |
| 11-04 | 1 | — |
| 11-05 | 15 | #30 |
| 11-06 | 36 (39 ratings on the Taiwan store page, 4.9 stars) | #39 (store page showed #97 a bit later) |
App Store ratings and charts, 11-02 to 11-06. The China store also has 40 ratings and Hong Kong 5; unclear which day the China ratings came in.
Three things stacked together:
第一,兄弟 App 导流。 主力款 10 月 26 日加了「家族入口」,奶蛙时代的 1.0.2 同一天发版。台湾 10 月 27 日一条评论写的是「這作者真是魔了突然愛上奶蛙了」,冲的是「这个作者」,不是这个 App。
Second, the flagship shipped a Traditional Chinese version. After Traditional Chinese went live on Nov 3, the flagship's Taiwan ratings jumped 86 in one day on Nov 6, roughly 8 times its earlier daily average, and it ranked #4 on Taiwan's Music Free chart that day. Naiwa Ages in Taiwan went from 1 ratings to 34 over the same period. The timing lines up exactly. The flagship adds dozens of ratings a day in Taiwan; passing a slice to the sibling app is enough to sustain a dozen-plus a day there (inferred).
Third, parked in a low-bar category. The flagship is in Music, this one in Education. Taiwan's Education Free chart needs only 34 ratings to reach the top 40, and charting brings more exposure. The title is stuffed with "Naiwa / pet / abstract / viral / repeat-pet", so every search picks it up.
No trace of paid acquisition or influencer promotion; no videos made with it turned up on TikTok, so the watermark-sharing loop hasn't started working yet.
It has no acquisition power of its own. These few days' volume came from the flagship, plus Taiwan's Naiwa wave.
Where the money comes from
Free, ad-supported, with four in-app purchase tiers in the Taiwan store (store page, 11-06):
| In-app purchases | Pricing |
|---|---|
| Naiwa Ages Pro (unlimited use of all actions, can be equipped on the right hand, permanent ad removal) | NT$90 |
| Treat Naiwa to Food | NT$60 |
| Founder's Pack · Shooting | NT$30 |
| Buy Naiwa a Milk Tea | NT$30 |
"Buy Naiwa bubble tea" and "Buy Naiwa a meal" are really just tipping. Naiwa Ages has never charted on Top Grossing, so its revenue isn't visible.
The flagship's money is a little more visible: card packs at ¥6 each, and a quarterly collector's bundle from ¥9.9,1.1.3 where "buying any quarterly bundle makes you Naiwa Pro". It hit #72 to #125 on China's Music Top Grossing, and its best in Taiwan's Music Top Grossing was #19. The same company also sells paid downloads, e.g. "Naiwa's Eyes" at ¥2, ranked #2 on China's Graphic Design Top Paid. One IP, three monetization methods at once: ads plus one-time Pro, card packs, paid downloads.
Who is behind it
"Xiang Li" has 16 apps (Apple developer page, 11-06). 7 are Naiwa-themed: the flagship, Naiwa viral music instrument, Naiwa Ages, Naiwa's Eyes, Naiwa Pet, Naiwa Miner, plus "My Blade & Shield" in the same art style (15k ratings in the China store). The rest are healing-style small utilities like Window Dream, Butterfly Collection, Rain Fall, Star Trail, Fireplace, Wave, and Firefly, with the art skills already in place.
The flagship launched Mar 30, catching the first Naiwa wave in April. Early April someone posted on X that it hit "No. 4 on the trending chart", ahead of Doubao, Douyin Mall and Hongguo. Reviews praised its "clean, high-end page and UI design". By Nov 6 it had 141,421 ratings in China, still climbing 2,000 more in the last 7 days.
The playbook afterward is clear: split one IP into many gameplay variants, each listed separately in different categories (Music, Education, Graphic Design, Lifestyle), each competing on its own category chart; the flagship carries a family entrance that pushes people over. "Cute Pet Naiwa", launched Oct 31, was already #6 on Taiwan's Lifestyle Free chart by Nov 6.
Who it's competing with
| Competitors | Scale | Difference |
|---|---|---|
| Talking Tom Cat (Outfit7) | 375k ratings in the China store | The mechanic's original; Naiwa Ages only swapped the character and voice |
| Naiwa - Laugh out loud talking Naiwa (another developer) | China store 3,142 ratings | Piled on in April: stickers, skins, talking all crammed together, noticeably less polished |
| Android "talking Naiwa", "talking cute pet Naiwa" and similar | Not verified | Several on Chinese download sites; Xiang Li hasn't released an Android version, and some flagship reviewers are asking for one |
| WeChat mini-games "Naiwa Laugh Stickers", "I am a Cat - Naiwa Raising" | Not verified | No install needed, spreads faster in group chats |
| Fan-made Naiwa desktop pets and web game collections | Small | Free fan remixes |
Naiwa itself is an AI-generated parody image of Nai Long, with no rights holder enforcing it, so anyone can use it, and many copycats already exist. But it could also run into trouble at any time for looking too much like Nai Long: Nai Long's official side cleaned up related content, and whether that reached the Naiwa app is unverified.
If it were you
Verdict: C. Cloning a Naiwa repeat-pet app isn't worth it: the mechanic is 2010 years old, the IP is unclaimed, copycats are everywhere, and this app's own volume came from the flagship's 140k user pool, which you don't have. What's valuable is the playbook behind it. Learn it and keep it for the next meme.
Who it suits: 1 to 2 people, iOS developers who make polished small art and can ship one small app a week. You need to track Chinese internet memes fast, and ideally already have one or two apps that can host a "family entrance".
Who it doesn't suit: anyone hoping a Naiwa repeat-pet app will carry itself (no cross-promotion, and it sat unused for two and a half months from August to October); anyone aiming for a long-term brand or subscriptions (memes fade, the IP isn't yours, and takedown risk is on you); anyone who only makes Android or mini-games without an aesthetic edge (those spaces are already crowded).
How to do it: when the next meme first surfaces (not after it's in the news), ship the simplest, most polished flagship, where one tap gives feedback, to catch the first search wave. Once you have a user pool, split the same IP into small gameplay variants like repeat, instrument, feeding, and mining, each listed separately in different categories, with a family entrance in the flagship. Monetize like it does: ads plus one-time Pro (the NT$90 tier), card packs, and paid downloads side by side. As soon as the meme spills into a new region, add that region's language to the flagship.
How to acquire users: first wave from store search, titles stuffed with the meme's name and play-style keywords; after that, cross-promotion between your own apps and exposure from low-competition category charts (Taiwan's Education chart needs only 30+ ratings to reach the top 40). Watermarked screen recordings are the right idea, but Naiwa Ages shows they won't run on their own; someone has to seed them on TikTok first.
Timing: this Naiwa wave is already late. To follow it, chase the next meme and launch within the first two or three weeks of it surfacing. The Naiwa flagship launched Mar 30, and its first wave of heat came in April.
What would mean you're misreading it: ① Naiwa Ages kept adding ten-plus Taiwan ratings a day for a month with no new trigger, which suggests the repeat-pet mechanic has demand on its own and could work solo; ② a new developer with no cross-promotion pushing a single Naiwa app into the top 100 of the China Free overall chart would mean Naiwa traffic isn't saturated yet; ③ the reverse: Naiwa-type apps being taken down in batches, or the flagship's Top Grossing rank dropping out of the top 200, would mean this IP's window has closed.

Bottom line
- The Naiwa meme had another wave in late October on Taiwan and HK campuses and on TikTok Taiwan;
- The main app 11/3 added Traditional Chinese in its 1.1.3 version, aimed at Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau, and 10/26's 1.1.2 version added a "Naiwa family App" entry point that sends users to sibling apps;
- Naiwa Era's own app shipped 1.0.3 versions in 11/4 (auto-listen-and-repeat, one-tap record and share, Pro in-app purchase).
It sits in Taiwan's Education category, where the bar is low: 34 ratings was enough to push it into the top 40 of the free chart.
First, some corrections to the recall card
- The developer has more than 8 apps. The Apple lookup API lists 16 apps under Xiang Li (artistId 1735720616). 7 of them use the Naiwa IP: Naiwa (flagship), Naiwa Magic Music Play, Naiwa Era, Naiwa's Eye, Cute Pet Naiwa, Naiwa Miner, plus the similarly styled My Blade Shield. The rest are healing-style lightweight tools like Window Dreams, Butterfly Collection, Rain Fall, Star Trails, Hearth Fire, Wave, Firefly, Magic Mirror, Big Fat Fish.
- Ratings are not "almost all in Taiwan and HK/Macau". 11-06's iTunes lookup shows: 40 ratings in China (4.78), 39 in Taiwan (4.87), 5 in Hong Kong, 2 in the US store. Our library only collected the stores where it charted (tw, mo); it didn't chart in China, so the recall card missed it. When those 40 China ratings accrued is not verifiable.
- "Overall chart about #88" is unverified. The library only has records from Taiwan's free Education chart: 11-05 #30, 11-06 #39. 11-06 the Taiwan store page shows "Chart 93 Education" (scrape time is later than the chart snapshot).

Competitors
Same idea: a pet that learns to talk back, poke it and it reacts, plus the Naiwa IP.
| Competitors | Platform | Launched | Scale | How it differs from the Naiwa era |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| The Talking Tom series (Outfit7) | iOS / Android | From ¥2010 | Talking Tom on the China store: 375k ratings; Talking Tom Jump: 3.02M ratings on the China store; My Talking Tom on the Taiwan store has 2 with 32k ratings (appstore library) | "Talk to it and it echoes you in a weird voice, poke it and it moves" is the mechanic Talking Tom pioneered. The Naiwa-era app swapped the character for the trending Naiwa meme and made the voice "deep and goofy," but the core mechanic is nothing new. |
| Naiwa (the main hit from the same developer) | iOS | 2026-03-30 | 141k ratings in the China store | "Tap once and it cracks up," plus card collecting. The Naiwa era is its echo-bot branch, and the two cross-promote through a family entry point. |
| Naiwa - Belly-laugh talking Naiwa (Guangsheng Zhou) | iOS | 2026-04-13 | China store 3,142 ratings (iTunes lookup) | A copycat: the name literally says "Talking Milk Frog" and packs emoji packs, skins, and travel modes into one app. The same developer 10-30 also shipped Milk Frog Run. |
| My Knife Shield - Naiwa Dragon Zen Match-3 (Xiang Chen) | iOS | 2026-04-07 | 1 ratings on the Taiwan store | Small match-3 and quiz apps riding the name, very low volume. |
| Talking Naiwa / Talking Cute Naiwa / Naiwa Laugh | Android (domestic app stores, download sites) | 2026 | Not verified | Several same-name feeding and echo apps on Android (hncj.com, k73.com, jxdown.com, anfensi.com all host download pages). The main hit has no Android version, and reviews on it keep asking for one. |
| Naiwa laughing sticker pack, I Am Cat - Naiwa Raising | WeChat Mini Game | 2026 | Not verified | No install needed, so it spreads more easily through social sharing (sj.qq.com, Tencent App Store page). |
| Naiwa desktop pet (yugh6/Naiwa), a collection of Naiwa web mini-games (allenllii.github.io/naiwa-games), Hong Kong Naiwa University (.com) | Open source / web | 2026 | Small | All are free fan-made remixes, which shows anyone can use the Naiwa IP. |
| Naiwa Loves Me Once More | Steam | 2026 Q4 pending release | — | Horror mini-game |
Takeaway: the "pet that learns to talk" mechanic has had nothing new since Talking Tom. The Naiwa IP has no rights holder controlling it either (it's an AI-generated parody of the Naidragon meme; source: Lost Media Wiki, lostmedia.wikidot.com/naiwa-cx), so the barrier to entry is almost zero and there are already many copycats.
Growth tactics (where users come from)
- Cross-promotion across the same developer's portfolio (confirmed). The main hit 1.1.2 (10/26) added a "Naiwa family app entry" on launch. The Naiwa-era 1.0.2 was also shipped by 10/26. Later the Naiwa era's ratings started climbing from 11/2, and during the same period Cute Naiwa and Naiwa Eyes also charted. Taiwanese reviews include "This author has gone full Naiwa" (10-27), suggesting reviewers came for the developer. The main hit gets dozens of new Taiwan ratings a day, enough traffic to support a dozen-plus new ratings a day for the Naiwa era.
- The main app's Traditional Chinese version for Taiwan, HK and Macau is confirmed. The main app's 1.1.3 release notes read "Added Traditional Chinese support for Taiwan, HK and Macau milk-family users", launched 11/3. The main app's Taiwan rating went up +86 in a single day to 11-06, while Naiwa Era climbed in Taiwan over the same period from 1 to 34. The timing lines up perfectly.
- Another wave of Naiwa meme heat on Taiwanese and Hong Kong campuses and TikTok (confirmed as background; its contribution to this app can't be measured).
- Neo Weekly 10-23 wrote that "Naifrog sightings have spread to universities in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and even North America" (sohu.com/a/1091840471_100024718);
- National Taipei University ran a "Naiwa campus trip" (10/19–11/2, Instagram);
- A Naiwa appeared at the National Chung Hsing University anniversary run (NCHU official Facebook);
- CommonWealth Magazine's independent commentary wrote about a Naiwa parade on NTU's Palm Avenue (crossing.cw.com.tw/article/21132);
- Searching "Naiwa" on TikTok, late October showed many Taiwan-region videos, 70k to 370k views each (TikHub, e.g. a clip by user7211284174404 10-26 with 376k views).
- Low barrier from store search plus the education category (inferred, broadly holds). The name is stuffed with keywords like "Naiwa / cute pet / abstract / addictive / echo bot." Just 34 ratings put it in the top 40 of Taiwan's Education Top Free chart, and charting itself brings more exposure. The main hit sits under Music; this one sits under Education, deliberately spreading across categories so each can chart.
- The app's built-in sharing (feature confirmed, effect not verified). 1.0.3 added one-tap recording, and exported videos carry a Naiwa watermark. I couldn't find "Naiwa era" or videos recorded with it on TikTok.
- Paid acquisition and creators: no evidence found. The ad library doesn't track this developer; no promo videos for this app on TikTok; no X chatter about this app in the last 30 days.
Why it works (broken down)
- The IP's momentum is borrowed. Naiwa is called "the most widely spread, most actively remixed Chinese meme of 2026 years" (Zhihu zhuanlan.zhihu.com/p/2080556259162452902, New Weekly). Users know Naiwa first, then go searching for it in the store.
- The main hit was one of the first Naiwa apps on iOS, and a polished one. It launched 3-30 and caught the first April wave. Reviews praise its "clean, premium page and UI design." The developer had earlier made aesthetic-focused tools like Window Dream and Butterfly Collection, so the art skill was already there. That built the main hit a user base of 140k ratings.
- The Naiwa era hatched a second mechanic from that same user base. It launched in August and got almost no users for two and a half months. Only after the main hit added the family entry point and the Traditional version, and after the Naiwa era added auto-echo and recording, did Taiwan's wave of heat start pulling it up. It has no independent acquisition ability on its own.
- Monetization is ads plus a one-time Pro purchase. The main hit sells card packs (¥6 each) and a quarterly bundle, and the revenue shows on the grossing charts: China store Music Top Grossing 72–125, Taiwan Music Top Grossing peaked at #19. The Naiwa era has no grossing rank yet.
Differentiation
Among Naiwa-style apps, its edge is moving the "Talking Tom" echo and touch interactions onto Naiwa: auto-listening with no button presses, a deep, goofy voice, 40 action props, and one-tap screen recording for sharing. Compared to Talking Tom, it only swapped the character; the mechanic is unchanged.
That edge isn't why it's getting traction. It's getting traction because the same developer's main hit is cross-promoting it, plus Naiwa's heat in Taiwan. The echo-bot mechanic just gives it a new keyword and a new category chart slot within the portfolio.
How many people have seen it
- The Naiwa era itself: few people know about it yet. No media coverage, no TikTok or X content dedicated to it, and no public revenue.
- The portfolio playbook and the main hit behind it: already visible to many. The main hit has 140k ratings, charted during April and got discussed on X; the Naiwa meme itself was covered by New Weekly, NetEase, and Zhihu. There are already many copycats of the Naiwa app; for example, a same-name app from Guangsheng Zhou has 3,142 ratings.
What others can borrow
- A trending meme plus polished single-point interaction, made into a main hit that grabs the first wave of search traffic and builds a user base.
- Then reuse the same IP to split out multiple mechanics, each listed separately: laughing, music playing, echo bot, eyes, feeding, mining. Each sits in a different category (Music, Education, Graphic Design, Lifestyle, Entertainment) and competes for low-barrier category charts. Place a "family entry" in the main hit to cross-promote.
- When the meme spreads to a new region, immediately add that region's language (here, Traditional Chinese) to the main hit and capture that market's traffic.
- Paid tiers come in two forms: paid-download apps (Naiwa Eyes ¥2, Naiwa Miner TWD90) alongside "free plus ads plus one-time Pro" apps.
Still unclear
- Which day the China store's 40 ratings rose, and whether the China store had a similar spike (our database doesn't cover that store).
- How much traffic the family entry point actually drove; how much of the Naiwa era's Taiwan charting came from organic search versus jumps from the main hit.
- Pro in-app purchase conversion and actual revenue; I did not re-check the two TWD30 and TWD90 recall-card prices against the store page.
- How long the Naiwa heat will last.
