Called a "voting community" on iOS and "video chat" on Android: Turkish companion app Toffe made the social top-grossing chart's top 20 within 10 weeks of launch

What it is: a paid companion app in Turkey with 18+ users. Men buy coins, and messages, video calls and gifts all cost coins. The companions are female hosts recruited by agencies; on iOS it's packaged as a voting community.

Why it took off: it copies Turkey's existing "host agency + coin-based companionship" business. Agencies recruit the hosts and plant good reviews, and hosts reach out to male users and get them to top up. The Turkish social top-grossing chart has a low bar: a few hundred heavy paying users can put an app in the top 20. The voting shell is there to get past Apple review.

CHow you could approach it: if your team has access to host guilds or talent agencies, don't go head-to-head in Turkey. Pick a language market with less competition (Azerbaijani, Central Asia, Gulf Arabic) and use a harmless voting or Q&A entry point plus paid one-on-one chat. Sign local agencies first to supply the hosts.

Grade C: the money is real and few people know about it, but what decides success is local host-agency access, not the product. More than half of the top 50 on Turkey's social top-grossing chart are the same model, and it also runs into Apple review and "fake accounts for payments" risks. For small teams without those connections, following it isn't worth it. Few people know about it yet

Toffe's App Store listing only talks about polls: you can't see results without voting, 16 topics. The money is in the chat box: sending a message costs coins, video calls are billed by the second, and on the other end is a host recruited by an agency. Launched on iOS in Aug 28, and through early November it sat at #15–24 on Turkey's social Top Grossing chart, yet has only 192 global ratings. This business is already mature in Turkey. Toffe is neither the first nor the biggest. Here's how it works and whether a small team can follow.

Sep 30, a host-recruiting post

In Sep 2026 30, an Instagram account @toffeyedek (the name is Toffe) posted: "Yayıncı başvuruları açık" (host applications open), followed by "Yayıncı yönetimi ✓ Coin bayi sistemi ✓" (host management, coin reseller system). Another account, BAST AJANS (@bastajansx1), has a bio reading "🎙️ Toffe Türkiye Resmi Ajansı" (Toffe's official Turkey agency). Partnership and application DMs; I only saw search snippets, the Instagram full text requires login.

At about the same time, five-star reviews started appearing on the Turkey App Store: "Kazanç yapacağınız en güzel uygulama, maaşınız zamanında yatıyor" (the best app to earn from, your salary arrives on time), "kadınlar için avantajlı" (good for women). There's also a one-star review: "bir sürü kız yazıyor ama tezgah, uygulamanın elemanı" (lots of girls message you, but it's a setup, they're the app's own people).

One says salaries arrive on time, the other says the girls are the app's people. Both reviews describe the same thing from opposite sides.

What it is

A one-on-one social app with 18+ installs, with three faces:

  • App Store listing: "anket temelli bir sosyal topluluk" (a poll-based social community). The launch screen is a stack of poll cards; you only see percentages after voting, and the paid part gets a light mention, "some features have in-app purchases."
  • Google Play: the title is literally "Toffe: Görüntülü Sohbet" (video chat), and the first line of the description is about meeting new people and filtering by age, country and gender. Polls aren't mentioned at all.
  • Website toffeapp.com: the first screen is polls; scroll down to "06 — Coins" to see where the money comes from. Sending text messages costs coins, images are priced separately, gifts have posted prices, and voice and video are "billed by the second, only the caller is charged"; the person answering pays nothing. Coins come in 7 tiers via Apple / Google in-app purchase (the single-item price on Play is $1.39–$69.99), and new accounts get a one-time freebie. The site says there are no subscriptions for now; levels rise with coins spent, and video beautification unlocks at level 10.

Voting, seeing who viewed you, and filtering people are all free. What costs money is chat, calls and gifts, plus buying top placement for your own poll. So the free part brings people in and matches them, and all the revenue comes from one-on-one chat.

More than a hundred ratings yet top-20 grossing means few people pay, but each spends a lot. This is common in Turkey's category: on the same day, Fubby had 18 ratings and ranked #13; Zili had 40 ratings and ranked #11 (App Store Turkey store, 11-06). The bar to reach the top 20 of social Top Grossing is low, a few hundred paying male users is probably enough (inference).

Where users come from

Hosts are supplied by agencies. This is the standard playbook for Turkish companion apps: agencies recruit female hosts on Instagram and TikTok with "chat from home and earn money," the app grants the agency "official agency" status and coin reseller rights, and hosts take a cut of what male users spend. Since hosts' income depends on how much men spend, they message first, pull people in and keep them around. The app itself doesn't need to create content or solve cold start.

Good reviews come from the same group. Of the 70 Turkey-store reviews, most are generic five-stars ("Mükemmel", "güzel bi uygulama gayet"), and several frame it around earning money. The average rating is 4.28 in Turkey and 4.91 in Azerbaijan, which pushes down negative reviews like "Fakelerle dolu para yatırmaya teşvik ediyorlar" (full of fake accounts, pushing you to top up).

Each store gets traffic differently. The Android title packs in "Görüntülü Sohbet", a high-search-volume term that catches people looking for video chat. On iOS it's presented as a poll community to get through review. Apple is strict about "stranger video companionship", so this front is mainly for reviewers (inference).

Paid acquisition: none seen. No Toffe advertiser page in the Meta ad library, searching "toffe sohbet" or "toffe ajans" on TikTok turned up no relevant videos, and X had nothing in the last 90 days. But not finding it in the ad library doesn't mean they aren't advertising.

Expansion via translation. Automatic chat translation is on by default, the listing has 9 languages, Azerbaijan has already charted, and Switzerland, Iceland and Senegal occasionally appear at the bottom of the social chart, probably Turkish diaspora (inference).

Behind it: the developer account is TOFFE LLC, with this one app only. Turkish software studio RedCactus Studios lists it in its portfolio, claiming 8 years and 40+ projects. Whether RedCactus is the owner or the contract developer can't be told from the outside.

Who it's competing with

Almost the whole chart is its peers. More than half of the top 50 Turkey social Top Grossing are "companion / voice rooms + coins" (App Store Turkey store, 11-06):

ProductLaunchedScale (Turkey iOS, 11-06)How it differs from Toffe

Amar / SUGO / Xena / Kimy etc.2023–2026Social Top Grossing #3–25Voice rooms from Middle East and Chinese going-global teams, one-to-many rooms + gifts

Toffe isn't big in this group. It's worth watching because it held around #20 within 10 weeks.

Does the poll front help?

It helps, but it's not why it ranked. The Play version doesn't mention polls at all; the reviews are about making friends, chatting, earning money and coins. Only one mentions "Anket paylaştım görüntülü sohbet ettim" (I shared a poll and had a video chat). Fubby and Zili, with no front, rank higher. The poll's role is twofold: it gets the app onto iOS, and gives new users a non-awkward opener. What pushed it up was the agency-supplied hosts plus coins.

If it were you

C. The business is real, but it isn't something an indie developer can easily follow. The Turkey social Top Grossing bar is low and men there pay, and this model has been proven by a dozen products locally. But what decides success is host supply and agency relationships, not the app itself. The Turkey chart is already crowded, and the whole model rests on Apple's review (the listing doesn't match the actual features) and the reputational risk of "fake accounts luring top-ups."

Who it suits: teams that already built voice rooms or companion apps for going global, with Middle East, Turkey or Central Asia host guild or agency connections, who want a new front and a new country for another product.

Who it doesn't suit: solo developers without local agency access; anyone targeting English or Western markets; anyone who can't accept "some of the people you chat with are the platform's own."

How to do it: if you do it, don't fight Turkey head-on. Pick a language market with similarly low payment barriers and strong male willingness to pay, but fewer competitors on the chart, such as Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, or Arabic-speaking Gulf states (I haven't verified each one is open). Copy Toffe's structure: a harmless public entry (polls, Q&A, interests) plus free matching and filtering, with payment only on one-on-one messages and per-second calls. Write separate store listings for iOS and Android, turn on automatic chat translation to support cross-border matches.

How to acquire users: first sign a local host agency, give them "official agency" status and coin reseller rights, and let them recruit hosts on Instagram and TikTok. The hosts' cut is your acquisition cost. On Android, use high-search local-language terms like "video chat" in the title.

When to move: this business isn't time-sensitive, but review is. If Apple starts cracking down on "poll shell, companion core" patterns, the iOS route will tighten.

Ways I could be wrong: ① Toffe still holds the top 20 of Turkey social Top Grossing after two to three months with fewer than 500 ratings, which suggests a small group of heavy users is supporting steadier revenue than expected, worth reassessing; ② conversely, if Toffe, Duladul and other apps with fronts get removed one after another, the front route is closed; ③ if a companion app with only a few dozen ratings breaks into the social Top Grossing top 20 in some new language market, that market is still open, move fast.

Where users come from
  • Confirmed Talent agency (recruiting hosts on Instagram): BAST AJANS (@bastajansx1) bio reads 'Toffe Türkiye Resmi Ajansı'; @toffeyedek's 2026-09-30 posts read 'host recruitment open, host management, coin agent system' (Jina search snippet)
  • Confirmed Hosts and agencies posting fake good reviews: several tr reviews are five-star posts framed around earning money: 'maaşınız zamanında yatıyor' (your salary arrives on time), 'Yayıncı… kazanç' (host… earnings), 'kadınlar için avantajlı' (advantageous for women). Negative reviews say 'fake accounts, the app's own people, a money trap' (appstore library reviews)
  • Confirmed Store search / ASO: the Play title is 'Toffe: Görüntülü Sohbet', and the iOS description is written as a voting community to pass review
  • Inferred Paid ads (Meta/TikTok): no hits in the metaads library, and TikHub found no related videos; the library coverage is incomplete, so this can't be ruled out
  • Confirmed Multi-language expansion: the listing has 9 languages; az social top grossing peaks at 78, and ch / is / sn chart occasionally

Why Toffe (iOS id6796720036) was able to break out

Regions checked: appstore library full-region scan (Toffe only appeared on social category charts in tr / az / ch / is / sn), focusing on Turkey; also checked the googleplay library, the metaads library, x-radar, TikHub, and Jina/Exa/Brave web search. Data as of 2026-11-06.

One line

Toffe is a Turkish 'paid companionship' app: male users buy coins and pay per message, per minute of voice/video calls, and for gifts; on the other side, female 'hosts' (yayıncı) recruited by agencies (ajans) earn a revenue share. On iOS it presents itself as a 'voting community' (the App Store description only talks about voting), while on Android it's directly titled 'Toffe: Görüntülü Sohbet (video chat)'. It works because Turkey already has a mature 'host agency + coin companionship' business: agencies bring in hosts and fake good reviews, and the paying men are few but each spends a lot. The voting shell is mainly there to get past Apple review and look compliant, not the reason users show up.

How to read these numbers: Turkey's social top grossing chart reaches around #20, yet it has only a little over a hundred ratings, which looks like 'few users, each paying a lot.' But that's normal for this category in Turkey, not unique to Toffe: on the same day and chart, Fubby ranked #13 with only 18 ratings; Zili ranked #11 with 40 ratings (appstore library, tr, 2026-11-06). The entry bar for Turkey's social top grossing chart isn't high; apps with this model can squeeze into the top 20 with a few hundred heavy paying users.

2. How it actually makes money (the two stores tell different stories)

  • App Store description: only talks about a 'voting community'; you can't see results without voting, there are 16 topics, and it has safety tools. Payments are mentioned in just one line: 'some optional features have in-app purchases.'
  • Official site toffeapp.com: the first screen is still voting, but scroll down and you reach the paid parts: sending text messages costs coins, images are charged separately, voice/video is billed per second and only the caller is charged, plus gifts, Toffe Club (filter people by age / country / gender / zodiac / level), 'who viewed me', a level system (10 levels unlock video beautification), and automatic chat translation. No subscriptions; 7 coin packs, with one free coin grant for new accounts.
  • Google Play: the title is directly 'Toffe: Görüntülü Sohbet'; the first line of the description is about meeting new people, video chat, and filtering by age / country / gender, and it also lists a Premium subscription. Voting isn't mentioned a single time in the Play description.

In other words, voting is only the iOS façade; the real product is companionship charged per message and per second.

Bottom line: there are a lot of these, the bar is very low, and more than half of Turkey's social top grossing top 50 are this kind of 'companionship / voice room + coins'. Toffe isn't big among them, but it holds around #20, and it has only been live for 10 weeks.

4. Growth tactics

  1. Talent agency (ajans), confirmed. Web search turned up the Instagram account BAST AJANS (@bastajansx1), bio reads "🎙️ Toffe Türkiye Resmi Ajansı (Toffe's official Turkey agency), DM for collabs and sign-ups." A second account, @toffeyedek (named Toffe)2026-09-30, has posts saying "Yayıncı başvuruları açık" (streamer applications open) and "Yayıncı yönetimi ✓ Coin bayi sistemi ✓" (streamer management ✓, coin reseller system ✓). Source: Jina search snippets; the Instagram pages need login, so I couldn't read the full text. This is the standard playbook for Turkish companion chat apps: agencies run ads on Instagram and TikTok recruiting women to "chat from home and earn," then those hosts go online and reach out to male users to get them to pay.
  2. Hosts and agencies posting fake good reviews, confirmed. Most of tr's 70 reviews are generic five-star ratings, and several frame the app around earning money: 'Kazanç yapacağınız en güzel uygulama, maaşınız zamanında yatıyor (the best app to earn money, your salary arrives on time)', 'Yayıncı… ödüller ile gayet güzel kazanç (I'm a host, the earnings are quite good)', 'kadınlar için avantajlı (advantageous for women)', 'Harika kazanç sağlayan bir uygulama (a wonderful app that earns money)' (appstore library reviews, 2026-10-10–10-25). The negative reviews match: 'Fakelerle dolu para yatırmaya teşvik ediyorlar (full of fakes, they push you to deposit money)', 'bir sürü kız yazıyor ama tezgah, uygulamanın elemanı (lots of girls message you but it's a scam run by the app's own staff)', 'kendi çalışanları ajans vs (their own employees, the agency etc.)'. The average ratings are 4.28 (tr) and 4.91 (az), propped up by the hosts' good reviews.
  3. Store search / ASO: partially confirmed. The Play title stuffs in "Görüntülü Sohbet" (video chat), a high-search-volume term; the iOS description is written as a poll, which helps it pass review. The name Toffe collides with Toffee (streaming) in Bangladesh and ToffeSoft in Turkey, so search results are noisy. I found no basis for the recall's claim that it is riding on the Turkish chat app Toffee; I don't see evidence of intentional name-jacking.
  4. Paid ads: no evidence. The metaads library has no Page or landing page for Toffe (this library only tracks advertisers found through keyword discovery, so no hits doesn't mean no spend). TikHub searches for "toffe uygulaması / toffe sohbet / toffe ajans" returned nothing relevant; x-radar shows 0 posts in the last 90 days.
  5. Expanding by storefront: the listing covers 9 languages. az is already on the social Top Grossing chart (peak 78), and ch, is and sn chart occasionally, probably Turkish diaspora and Azerbaijani users.

V. Why it took off

  • The business model is proven: pay-per-message and pay-per-second companion chat has already been validated in Turkey by Connected2.me, Fubby, Zili and Cool Match. The bar on the social Top Grossing chart is around rank 20, so a few hundred heavy-paying male users is enough.
  • Supply is handled by talent agencies: "official agencies" like BAST AJANS recruit, manage and sell coins for the hosts, so the app doesn't have to make content or solve cold start itself. Hosts earn based on how much male users spend, so they bring in and retain users on their own.
  • iOS front door passes review: Apple is strict about stranger video companion apps. Packaging it as a poll community lets it ship on iOS, and it's categorized under 17+ social apps. On Android it's described plainly as video chat.
  • Ratings are controllable: hosts and agencies write good reviews to keep the average above 4.3, offsetting complaints like "scam trap".
  • The team iterates fast: RedCactus Studios claims 8 years of experience and 40+ projects, ships a version almost every week, and the feature set is complete (translation, balance protection, screenshot reporting, etc.).

VI. Differentiation

Compared with peers, two differences stand out: first, it uses a poll as the entry point (the opening screen is a stack of poll cards, and you can't see results without voting, meeting people through their answers); second, it spells out "honest pricing" in detail (a warning before every charge, a heads-up 30 seconds before the balance runs out, no subscriptions).

But these two points are not why it climbed. The evidence: the Play description doesn't mention polls at all; reviews talk about "making friends / chatting / earning money / coins", with only one mentioning "Anket paylaştım görüntülü sohbet ettim" (I shared a poll and video chatted); Fubby and Zili on the same chart have no such front and still rank higher. The poll's real role is to get it onto iOS, plus giving new users a non-awkward opener. What actually pushed it up is host supply from agencies and coin-based monetization.

7. Visibility

Few people know about it yet: no media coverage, 0 posts on X, 0 on TikTok; revenue is not public, only a developer page auto-generated by StoreIntel (estimates are paywalled). The category is crowded in Turkey, but none of these players are publicly discussed.

VIII. Takeaways

  • Use a harmless-looking social entry point as the front door (polls, interests, Q&A), wrap paid companion chat inside it, and write separate descriptions for iOS and Android.
  • Don't build supply yourself; plug into local talent agencies (official agency status plus a coin-agent system). The host's cut is your acquisition cost.
  • Target markets where paying bars are low and male willingness to pay is strong (Turkey, Azerbaijan, the Middle East), with multilingual support plus auto-translation for cross-border matching.
  • Risks: Apple review (description doesn't match actual features), Turkish regulation, and reputation for "scams / fake accounts". The model itself carries these risks.

9. What I'm still unsure about

  • Is RedCactus the owner of Toffe, or an outsourced developer? Its site says "our own games to apps we've built for partners", and who sits behind TOFFE LLC is unclear.
  • Whether it buys ads on Meta / TikTok is not covered by our ad libraries.
  • Not verified whether "Coin bayi" (coin dealer) means selling coins outside the store (bypassing Apple / Google's cut).
  • Actual revenue: chart rank only shows it is mid-to-upper in Turkish social.
