An app with only 2 ratings climbs to #4 on the Spanish Top Paid chart: a Spanish electrical diagram tool, and the older app behind it that's been around for 6 years
What it is A tool for electricians to draw electrical diagrams (single-line, multi-line, control circuits) on phones and tablets. Drag symbols out to PDF; 2,99€ one-time purchase, 6,49€ to save more drawings, 0,49€ one-time for DXF export.
Why it took off The same developer's older app Unifilar has run for 6 years (500k+ Android downloads, reached the iOS Top Paid chart in 71 countries). The new app borrows its brand and Spanish keywords. In small-country efficiency Top Paid charts like Spain's, a few purchases a day can reach the top ten, so 2 ratings were enough to hit #4.
CHow you could follow Don't build Spanish electrical drawing tools. Pick a blue-collar trade that needs legally required documents with diagrams, or another language, and copy the structure: phone drag-and-drop diagrams, a paid download plus paid drawing saves and pay-per-use CAD export, using store search terms and multilingual listings to rotate through small-country paid charts.

In Oct 29, an app called "Esquemas Eléctricos: Canvas" reached #4 in Spain's App Store productivity Top Paid chart and #74 overall Top Paid. That day it had only 2 ratings worldwide. It sells for 2,99€ and lets electricians draw electrical diagrams on their phones. It looks like a new app that popped up out of nowhere, but it's really a Spanish developer rewriting an app they've run for 6 years, using user reviews as the guide. Here's who it's for, why a handful of ratings was enough to chart, where the money comes from, and whether you could build something similar for another trade or language.
A three-star review from 2024 years ago
In 2024 Aug 2, a Spanish user gave an app called "Unifilar - Esquemas eléctricos" three stars:
"Still needs improvement, but it's perfect for drawing quickly. It would be great if you could export directly to dwg or dxf. Another useful feature would be a visible title block on the drawing, with the author, location, date..."
Unifilar was released by Angel Martinez in December 2020, and does just one thing: single-line diagrams (esquema unifilar), the simple sketches electricians use for distribution boards and circuits. Reviews from the same period asked for much the same: a Mexican user said "I'd buy it right away if it ran on my MacBook" (2023-10), a UK user listed five points including "choose component and wire colors" and "make a Mac version" (2025-09), and several Italian users complained that residential circuit symbols were insufficient (2023).
Two years later, almost all of these requests show up on the new app's store page: 400+ IEC / ANSI symbols, multi-line diagrams and control circuits alongside single-line, colorable wires, an iPad version that runs on Macs from M1 onward, a web version at electricalcanvas.com, and separately sold DXF export at 0,49€ one-time. The new app was released in Aug 12 and updated to 1.6.0 in Nov 4.
What it sells
In one sentence: an electrical schematic editor for phones and tablets. Drag components from a symbol library onto a canvas, connect wires, export PDF or images, and pay 0,49€ once to convert to DXF for CAD.
Pricing has three tiers (Spanish App Store, 11-06):
| What you buy | Pricing | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Downloads | 2,99€ (US $2.99, Mexico $69 MXN) | All symbols, unlimited PDF / image export, up to 2 saved drawings at once |
| Save multiple drawings (Pro module) | 6,49€ | Unlimited saved drawings, nest one inside another, open across devices |
| DXF conversion | 0,49€ per conversion | Export for CAD software like AutoCAD |
The "only 2 drawings" limit is very direct: an electrician finishes one today, takes another job next week, and the third costs 6,49€. The old app cost 1,99€ to download and Pro 4,49€ (a French user said that price in a review 2023 years ago). The new app costs more at every tier and adds a pay-per-use hook.
Who buys? Low-voltage electrical installations in Spain require a set of documents, including a single-line diagram. Catalonia's government list of required documents for owners gives the single-line diagram its own form (ELEC-2). So every renovation or shop fit-out an electrician takes on needs one of these diagrams. They used to be drawn on desktop CAD or by hand. Now they can be drawn on site on a phone and exported as a PDF.
Why 2 ratings is enough to chart
The answer: efficiency Top Paid charts in countries like Spain and Estonia have such low thresholds that a few purchases a day can reach the top ten.
The new app looks the same on every country chart: it spikes, then drops every day (productivity Top Paid category chart):
| Country | Trend |
|---|---|
| Spain | 10-29 #4 → 13 → 22 → 34 → 48,11-03 → 11-05, falls off the chart; 11-06 publishes 1.6.0, returns to #10 |
| Estonia | 10-28 #4, then drops steadily to #139 |
| Brazil | 18 → 14 → 39 |
| Canada | 10-31 #19, then 55 → 79 → 102 |
| UK | 11-03 #33, then 76 → 112 → 133 |
| Australia | 11-05 #27,11-06 #62 |
Throughout this period its global ratings stayed at 0 to 2, with no new reviews. The same-named new app on Google Play has only 100 downloads (11-02). How much the new app sells itself is not visible from outside; at these small-chart thresholds, that's likely single digits to a few dozen purchases a day, and monthly revenue may be only a few hundred euros (estimate).
The real engine is the older app. Unifilar has 270 iOS ratings in Spain (4.6 stars), 133 in the US store, 157 in Italy and 126 in Germany, and has appeared on productivity Top Paid charts in 71 countries. In Nov 4 it was #1 in Spain's productivity Top Paid chart and #36 overall Top Paid. Its Android version is free with ads and has 500k+ downloads and 5,410 reviews, rated 4.2 stars on Google Play (11-06). The new app's title takes the two most-searched Spanish terms, "esquemas eléctricos" and "unifilar". The developer's profile page lists the new and old apps side by side, and the website groups the web, Android and iOS versions together. Users most likely arrive from the old app and search. Whether the old app links to the new one or the new one runs Apple Search Ads was not found.
Other channels are nearly nonexistent: the developer's YouTube channel has 444 subscribers, and the new app's launch video premiered in Oct 16 and had 6 views by Nov 154. Searching TikTok for "electrical diagram app" or "single-line diagram app" in Spanish doesn't surface it, nobody has mentioned it on X in 90 days, and no media has written about it.
Who it's competing with
On the App Store, the slot for "Spanish + phone + drag-and-drop professional electrical symbols" is basically held by just this developer's two apps.
- English-major tool: Circuit Planner (iPad, $7.99,1,070 symbols, automatic wiring, cross-references), more like CAD. It only supports English and German, and its US-store rating count is too low to display.
- Desktop software: ProfiCAD, QElectroTech, AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN. Commonly used by European electricians and engineers, but they don't run on phones, and are expensive and heavy.
- General drawing tools: draw.io, Canva's circuit templates, Scheme-it. Free, but symbols don't follow IEC standards and there's no DXF export.
- Free tools from big brands: Schneider's EcoSet Config picks devices and auto-generates switchboard and single-line diagrams, but only with Schneider's own components. A TikTok introduction video has 123k views (10-16).
- The new AI route, the real threat: around October 2026, several Android tools appeared on Spanish TikTok promising "take a photo of the distribution board and AI generates the single-line diagram" or "single-line diagram plus simulation plus AI". Their views ranged from hundreds to thousands, still small. If one of them gets good enough, "manually dragging symbols" itself becomes unnecessary.
What users are complaining about
The old app's bad reviews cluster around three issues, and the new app will get the same criticism if it doesn't fix them:
- Paying twice: "I paid for the download, then to save projects I had to pay for PRO again... tapping restore purchases does nothing" (Brazil, 2026-02); "I paid 4.49 euros for Pro and nothing changed except the charge" (France, 2023-10). The new app makes "only 2 drawings" even tighter, so these complaints will likely keep coming.
- Lost images: "Wasted money, keeps crashing, saved images won't open" (Spain, 2025-11); "Saved it, but reopening it shows nothing" (UK, 2023-09).
- Missing symbols: Italian users say there are no two-way or changeover switches for residential circuits (2023); a Spanish user says common symbols like crossing wires are missing (2025-11).
Almost all the good reviews mention the same two things: it's simple, and the developer replies fast. "The update to Pro had a problem, and they fixed it right away" "The developer is in Spain" (Spain, 2024-03). For a tool run by one person, customer service is part of the moat.
If it were you
Verdict: C. You can learn a very clean playbook from it, but copying it isn't worth much. It charted because of 6 years of accumulated older apps, 500k Android users, and Spanish search terms that new entrants can't get; the money ceiling is also low (a new app might make a few hundred euros a month); and AI photo-to-diagram tools are sidestepping manual drawing altogether.
Who it's for: people who already work in a trade (electricians, plumbers, gas, solar PV, HVAC), or who have friends or relatives in those trades who can give you daily feedback; people who can build for iOS / Android, can accept a side income of a few hundred to a few thousand euros a month, and are willing to grind on it for years.
Who it's not for: people who want to jump straight into Spanish-language electrical drawing (this developer already holds the search terms and older users, and keeps updating); people who want full-time income or fast payback; people who don't know the trade and can't draw compliant diagrams (a common complaint in the older app's bad reviews is "missing symbols").
How to do it: switch to a different trade or a different language, and copy its structure. Find a blue-collar trade that has mandatory paperwork that must include a diagram, and build a drag-and-drop diagram tool for phones in one language; draw the symbols fully to local standards; charge a download fee, add "save more" and "export CAD format per use." The Android version can be free with ads to build reach, with iOS making the money. Start with a narrow version (like Unifilar doing only single-line diagrams), collect reviews, and build the second generation from them. Avoid designs that make people "pay and then pay again"; spell out the one-time purchase and Pro clearly.
How to get users: store search. Use the two words practitioners actually search for in the title and subtitle (look at it: "Esquemas Eléctricos" plus "Diagrama unifilar & multifilar"), translate the store listing into 7 languages, and use local-language titles in each country. Then rotate through the productivity paid mini-charts in each country, using releases and new-country launches to pop up. These charts can get you into the top ten with a few sales a day, and a chart spot brings a bit of organic traffic. Then show up in local electrician and plumber Facebook groups and on YouTube tutorial sections.
When to go before it's too late: there's no deadline, this is a slow business. But if the trade you plan to target already has "photo-to-AI diagram" tools with hundreds of thousands of TikTok views, don't build manual drawing; go straight for the AI route.
Signs you've read this wrong: (1) Canvas was still rated in single digits before spring 2027 and kept dropping off the Spanish charts, which would show that even someone with an existing user base can't push a second generation, meaning this business is smaller than it looks; (2) one of the Spanish "photo to single-line diagram" tools reaches 100k views on video and tens of thousands of Android downloads, which would mean the manual-drawing path is narrowing; (3) conversely, if the similar apps you find in another trade or language haven't been updated in years and reviews are full of complaints, that's a real gap, and you can raise the grade to B.

Esquemas Eléctricos: Canvas (ElectricalCanvas): why it charted
- App Store id6797312801, developer Angel Martinez (artistId 1446956865), Productivity, listed 2026-08-12 (shows 08-13 in the US store), current v1.6.0 (2026-11-04)
- One-time price €2,99 / $2.99 (Mexico $69 MXN, Australia 4.99 AUD), in-app purchases: Pro modules (unlimited saves, import subdiagrams, multi-device), DXF export charged per use
- Spanish-language ratings: 2 (5.0); other countries 0 (iTunes lookup, 2026-11-06)
Bottom line
It's hard to call it something that "broke out on its own." This is the second-generation product from a small Spanish-language electrical drawing developer who has been at it for 6 years, and it rides on two things: the brand, keywords and older users built by the first app, Unifilar - Esquemas eléctricos (500k+ Android downloads); and the very low bar for the Productivity paid chart in small countries like Spain. Each launch, new-country addition or update brings in enough purchases to push it from the top 10 to the top 30 in its category, then it drops off a few days later. The new app's own growth evidence is weak (only 2 ratings worldwide, 100+ Android downloads).
1. How to read the data
Chart trajectory of the new app (appstore library app_day, 2026-10-28 to 11-06, Productivity paid category chart)
| Country | Trajectory |
|---|---|
| Spain es | 10-29: #4 in category, #74 in overall paid chart; then 13→22→34→48,11-03 down to 11-05 and off the chart; 11-06 (after v1.6.0 update) back to #10 in category, #190 in overall paid chart |
| Estonia ee | 10-28 #4 in category, #107 in overall paid chart; then dropped steadily to #139 |
| Brazil br | 18→14→39(R$19.9) |
| Canada ca | 10-31 #19, then 55→79→102 |
| UK gb | 11-03 #33, then 76→112→133 |
| Australia au | 11-05 #27,11-06 #62 |
| DE/IT/Slovakia/US | #51 to #191 in category, lasting only a day or two |
Every country follows the same curve: a spike, then a steady daily decline, with no relation to the rating count (0 to 2 ratings across the whole period). That means the category charts run on a handful of paid downloads. On these small charts, a few purchases a day are enough to reach the top 10 to 30. The days a country first charts often line up with a simultaneous Android and web promo push, or a v1.6.0 release.
The real base: the same developer's older app
- 《Unifilar - Esquemas eléctricos》/ SLD | Electrical diagrams (iOS id1534899128,2020-12-28; Android com.xlingenieria.unifilar)
- iOS: 270 ratings in Spain (4.59), US 132, Italy 157, Germany 126, France 99, Brazil 88; also charted in Productivity Top Paid in 71 countries (appstore library, app_profile). 11-04 hit #1 in Spain's category Top Paid and #36 overall Top Paid; Argentina category #4 to #5, Italy #3 to #14, Croatia category #2 and overall #31 (app_day)
- Android: 500k+ downloads, 5.41K reviews, 4.2 stars, free with ads and in-app purchases (Google Play page, 2026-11-06 read)
- 《Esquemas hidráulicos》(id1602894931,2022): 12 ratings in Spain; Spain category Top Paid ranked #13 to #37, Germany category #39
- The developer's YouTube channel "ElectricalSoft": 444 subscribers; the older app's demo video has 3k views over 46.6 years (youtube.com/watch?v=ejMytPWjm8M); the newer app's launch video, "Easily create electrical schematics with ElectricalCanvas", premiered 2026-10-16 with 154 views (youtube.com/watch?v=kPbLICdn6I4)
Bottom line: the older app is what actually makes money; the newer one is an upgraded version of the established brand, cross-promoting with it.
2. Competitors
| Competitors | Platform | Launched | Scale | How it differs from Canvas |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Unifilar / SLD Electrical diagrams (same developer) | iOS + Android | 2020-12 | Android 500k+, iOS 270 ratings in Spain, charted in 71 countries | Single-line diagrams only. Canvas is a rewrite that adds multi-line diagrams, control circuits, 400+ IEC/ANSI symbols, DXF, web, and 7 languages |
| Circuit Planner | iOS(iPad) | About ¥2023–24 | US rating count too low to display | $7.99 one-time purchase, 1070 symbols, auto-wiring, cross-references, title block; English and German only. More of a "pro CAD" tool, with no Spanish-speaking market |
| ProfiCAD / QElectroTech | Windows / open-source desktop | Very early | Common among European electricians | Desktop only, not usable on a phone. Canvas's pitch is skipping the complexity of traditional CAD |
| Canva circuit diagram templates, draw.io, Digi-Key Scheme-it, SmartDraw, Visual Paradigm | Web | Early | Big | General-purpose drawing tools: incomplete electrical symbols, not IEC-compliant, no DXF export |
| Schneider EcoSet Config | Web (big companies) | Around 2026 | TikTok @automatismosmundo intro video, 123k views (2026-10-16) | Free. Pick components and it auto-generates a distribution board and single-line diagram, but only with Schneider's own components |
| Unifilar BT + Simulación(+IA) | Android | 2026 | TikTok @fuensalidano64 videos, 500 to 7238 views | Single-line diagrams plus simulation plus AI, in Spanish. Direct competitor, but very small |
| PCA Electricidad: "photo → single-line diagram" | App (in development) | 2026-10 | TikTok 6366 views | AI takes a photo of a distribution board and auto-generates a single-line diagram for Spanish electrical inspection certificates (boletín). An AI-native alternative approach |
| Calculadora Eléctrica Pro, ObraSmartPro (BertIA), VoltIQ (Mexico medium voltage), EduVolt Designer, Simurelay | Android / web | 2025–26 | EduVolt has one TikTok video with 3.4M views; the rest sit in the thousands to 60k | Calculation, simulation, or AI-generated single-line diagrams. Most are "calculator plus a side diagram tool" rather than pure drawing tools |
| AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, ETAP | Desktop professional software | Early | Big | Expensive and heavy, used by engineers. Canvas targets electricians, students, and people on site |
The App Store slot for "Spanish + phone + drag-and-drop electrical symbols" is almost entirely held by this developer's two apps. Competition comes mainly from calculator-type tools on Android and the web, newer AI-generation tools, and free general-purpose drawing tools.
3. Growth tactics (evidence)
- Cross-promotion and brand reuse with existing users (confirmed): the developer's profile lists Unifilar, Esquemas hidráulicos, and Canvas together; the site electricalcanvas.com is the single entry point across web, Android, and iOS. The older app has 500k+ Android users and paying users in several countries, so the most likely traffic source is in-app recommendations and the website. Whether in-app recommendation placements exist is unverified.
- App Store search ASO (confirmed, strength unverified): the title is "Esquemas Eléctricos: Canvas" with subtitle "Diagrama unifilar & multifilar", which squarely targets the Spanish core search terms "esquemas eléctricos" and "unifilar". Metadata is localized into 7 languages (Spanish, English, German, French, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese), with each storefront getting a local-language title (the UK store uses Electrical Schematics: Canvas).
- Multi-country listings and update-driven chart pushes (inferred): the category chart peaks, the new country entries, and the release dates (1.5.1 → 1.6.0,11-04) line up, followed by a steady daily decline, which is typical of small charts spiking and then fading. No free-promotion chart push was seen: the price stayed at 2.99 throughout.
- The developer's own YouTube channel (confirmed, small reach): the newer app's launch video has only 154 views, so it is not a major source.
- TikTok creators, X, media, ads: no TikTok videos for Canvas or ElectricalCanvas were found (searched "esquemas electricos app" and "diagrama unifilar app" via TikHub). x-radar shows 90 posts in 0 days for "electricalcanvas". Web search only turned up the official site, store pages, and YouTube, with no media coverage. The ad library did not track any spend, which does not mean there was none. Separately, @automatismosmundo posted a video on 2024-05 with 220k views titled "Diseña tus Esquemas Unifilares GRATIS con esta aplicación". Which app it promotes is unverified, but it could be the older Unifilar (free on Android).
4. Why it makes money
- Real need that's easy to understand: Spanish electricians must attach a single-line diagram to every low-voltage installation inspection (boletín / CIE). Portugal and Latin America have similar paperwork demands, as do Italy and France. Being able to produce a compliant PDF with a few taps on a phone makes a 2.99€ one-time purchase an easy decision for professionals.
- Almost no competition in Spanish-speaking markets: mainstream CAD tools are English or German desktop software, and the only professional drawing tool for Spanish-language phones is this developer's.
- Low bar for the paid small charts: in countries like Spain, Estonia, and Croatia, a few purchases a day can reach the top 10 of Productivity Top Paid, so charting amplifies the actual scale.
5. Differentiation, and whether it's really why it grew
Compared with the older Unifilar, Canvas adds multi-line diagrams and control circuits, 400+ IEC/ANSI symbols, DXF export (pay per export, for CAD workflows), web/Android/iOS across three platforms, and 7 languages. Compared with Circuit Planner or CAD, it's lighter, cheaper, and available in Spanish. Compared with general drawing tools, its symbols are professional. But differentiation is not the main reason it charted. Given 2 ratings, 100+ Android downloads, and 154 video views, the new app has not yet built its own demand. Charting came mainly from the developer's existing brand, keyword placement, and the very low bar of the small charts. The commercially interesting part is the ladder: an older app validates the need, then a pricier Pro version with per-use billing follows.
6. Visibility and copycats
- Visibility: few people know about it yet. No revenue disclosures (TrustMRR or founder posts), no coverage from media or large X accounts, and 154 views on YouTube.
- Copycats: no product copying Canvas was seen. But the Spanish electrical-tools niche is very active around 2026-10: Unifilar BT + IA, PCA photo-to-diagram, ObraSmartPro BertIA, and VoltIQ are all being pushed on TikTok. AI auto-generated single-line diagrams are the biggest threat to it.
7. Takeaways
- Pick a blue-collar trade with mandatory paperwork (electricians, plumbers, gas, solar, HVAC), build a phone-first "professional symbol drag-and-drop" tool in one language, sell it as a one-time purchase plus pay-per-export DXF, and one developer can hold a spot on Productivity Top Paid charts across dozens of countries.
- The older app is free with ads on Android to build volume (500k+), paid on iOS to earn revenue, and the same brand then launches a pricier second-generation product and a web version.
- Localized titles in 7 languages, with each country's small chart taking turns spiking: cheap and effective.
8. Still unclear
- Actual downloads and revenue: based on the small-chart thresholds, likely single digits to a few dozen a day, with monthly revenue perhaps only a few hundred euros. Unverified.
- Whether the older app has a cross-promotion slot, and whether Apple Search Ads were run: unverified.
- Whether the 220k-view @automatismosmundo video recommends Unifilar: unverified.
- The web version's pricing and user numbers: unverified.
