# "What's it called today?": Colicine is a casting-notes App with a hidden video-streaming entry, and a business not to touch

**What it is** On the surface it's a productivity tool for "casting notes" built on TMDb data. After approval, it remotely opens a hidden streaming entry: enter a code, use a US network, and watch pirated films and shows for free, funded by ads.

**Why it took off** Pirate streaming Apps popular in Latin America only exist for Android, so iPhone users keep asking in the comments of TikTok streaming accounts "what's it called today, what's the code". As the similar shells were removed one after another, the relay traffic landed on it in mid-October.

**E** **How you could follow it** Don't follow this piracy-plus-review-deception approach. The only thing worth learning is distribution: build your own off-store content accounts as a traffic pool, and show the rating prompt when users have just gotten value. If you want this demand, build a Spanish-language aggregator or watchlist tool that uses legitimate free content.

Grade E: the product is pirated films plus deceptive review, risking account bans and takedowns and carrying copyright liability. Each build lives only one to three months, with estimated monthly revenue of about $1,000 and no asset that builds up. Stay away. Being talked about in small circles

On the App Store, Colicine is a "casting notes" tool, and its support page plainly says "cannot watch videos". But in the US store it has 359 ratings averaging 4.8 stars, and the written reviews all say "you can watch anything". It's the link in the free iPhone streaming-shell relay that was still alive from mid-October into early November. Below: how it got through review, where users come from, where the money comes from, and why this business shouldn't be followed, with only a small part worth learning.

### One video with 540k views, and the same question in the comments

In Oct 3 2026, a TikTok account @mook0241 from Senegal with only 1,500 followers posted a video with just a string of tags: "#film #iphone #fy #series #mexique". The video never named the App. It got 543k views and 1,734 comments, which were nearly all the same sentence written in different ways:

> "¿Cómo se llama hoy 27 de octubre? ¿y el código?" (What's it called today, October 27, and what's the code?) "C'est quoi le nom de l'application?" (What's the app's name?) "Bro I hate when yall gatekeep"

Of about 920 comments on 10 videos from these accounts, "se llama hoy" ("what's it called today") appeared more than 208 times. The comments also spell out a chain of names passed along one after another: Shareani, Cinemoto, Ancinere, Layered Transparency, comp study, pdf converter, HelloSix. Users wrote: "YA HAN QUITADO ANCINERE Y SHAREANI" (they've already removed Ancinere and Shareani), "Ahora se llama pdf converter" (now it's called pdf converter).

Searching "colicine" on TikTok surfaces videos from these accounts, but the video captions and comments never contain the word. The likely explanation is that TikTok recognized text in the frames (inference, not verified frame by frame). On Reddit's piracy subreddit r/PiratingWebsites, someone named the apps directly: "Ziliumm and also Colicine". Ziliumm has since been removed from the US, Mexico, and Colombia storefronts. Colicine is still up.

### What it actually is

**Publicly** , it presents itself as a "casting experiment" tool built on the TMDb movie database: pick a film, look at the cast list, and write down "what if so-and-so played this role." It has Casting Lab, Fan Recast, and a Challenge mini-game. It has a website, a privacy policy, and a support page, and the support page includes this line:

> "Does Colicine play movies? No. Colicine is for personal casting notes only."

**What users actually use it for** is something else (US App Store reviews):

- "It actually lets you watch moves even if I was like a long time ago" (10-19,5 stars)

- "I can watch any movie I want in here but ... too much ads, well the movies are free so i don't really mind, it's like YouTube" (10-25)

- "Love it just wish there was more Zeus/NTTV shows" (10-21). Zeus is a paid subscription reality-show platform in the US, which suggests the library includes pirated paid content.

The switch is described in its own privacy policy: "Firebase Remote Config may be used to adjust App behavior ... without requiring an App Store update." The app passes review as a casting-notes app, then a remote flag turns on movie-watching mode. Users have to enter a "code" before the entry point appears. Reviews mention needing a US VPN, and some say that after a new build went up, "you only get a 1 to 3 day download window, then the watch feature turns off and only the games are left." The casting-notes shell is a well-chosen disguise: it already searches film titles and shows posters and cast lists, so a hidden playback entry is the least conspicuous thing to add.

The developer is listed as "嘉乐 郭" (Jiale Guo), an individual account with this as its only app. It launched in Aug 16, the last version shipped in Sep 26 (1.3.0), and the release note is a single line: "Fix the bug in the icon display." It's filed under Productivity, free, with no in-app purchases.

### How fast it's growing

- **US ratings** : 11-03 is at 239 ratings, 11-06 is at 327, adding about 15 to 40 new ratings a day. 11-06 the App Store page already shows 359 ratings at 4.8 stars. StoreTally logged a gain of 127 ratings in one week, and the ranking has been climbing since Oct 22. The first US review is from Oct 19.

- **The rating pattern is odd** : 89% of the 5 stars, and only 5 of the 359 ratings include written text. It looks like the system rating prompt fires while the user is watching a movie and in a good mood (inference).

- **Charts** : it only charts in Productivity's free category, and the best positions are in small Latin American and West African countries. Between 10-28 and 11-06, Panama peaked at #36, Honduras at #40, Guatemala at #44, Venezuela at #48, with more French-speaking markets like Senegal, Mali, and Madagascar. The best US position is #120 (11-04).

- **Ratings in the US, rankings in Latin America** : the bar to chart in Productivity's free category is low in small Latin American countries, where a few dozen downloads a day can reach the top 50. Spanish-language TikTok traffic is enough to push it up the charts in a dozen-plus countries. But nearly all the ratings come from the US storefront, and the reviewers read like US teenagers. The most plausible explanation is that movie-watching mode is only turned on for US IPs, so Latin American users without a VPN see just the shell and never reach the rating prompt (inference, not verified on a real device).

### Where users come from

**iPhone "free movie app" accounts on TikTok.** Mainly Spanish and French, plus some US accounts (@choicesmovies posted 4 "best movie app of 2026" videos in October, each with 7 to 190k views). The playbook is identical: the video never names the app and lets the comments ask for it. Thousands of "what's it called today" comments keep the videos in the recommendation feed, and they also make it hard for people reporting the app to find the target.

**Reddit piracy communities.** r/PiratingWebsites and r/Cinema_HD have people recommending it by name. In a r/AskMexico thread, someone summed it up: "You can find it in the Apple Store, usually you need to enter a code, ask what it's called now." This playbook is already common knowledge in Mexico.

**The demand starts with Android.** The most popular pirate streaming apps in Latin America, Magis TV, Xuper TV, and Cuevana, only ship as Android APKs, which iPhones can't install. The gap for iPhone users has always existed, and these shells are built to fill it.

**Not relying on store search.** "Colicine" has nothing to do with movies. Searching for it returns colchicine and bacteriocin results. The name is deliberately chosen so that only people who were told about it will search for it. No media coverage, and about 60 mentions on X in 0 days.

### Where the money comes from

Entirely funded by ads. The privacy policy says it integrates the Unity LevelPlay mediation layer, which sits on top of eight networks including AdMob, Mintegral, Liftoff, and Unity Ads, "at launch and during use," meaning app-open ads plus interstitial and rewarded videos during use. It also sends ad revenue back to Meta via App Events. US IP inventory pays the highest CPMs, which is an economic reason the watch mode leans toward the US (inference).

There are only two costs: a $99-per-year individual developer account (you just open a new one when this one gets banned), and the revenue share or pay for the TikTok account operators (unverified). A third-party tool, AppSprint, estimates monthly revenue around $1,000 and monthly downloads around 1,000 (estimate, unverified). It has never charted in Top Grossing. For a shell that lives one to three months, breaking even counts as success.

### Who it's competing with

| Product | Where | Scale | Compared with Colicine |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tubi / Pluto TV / Plex / Kanopy | iOS, Android, web | Tens of millions of users | Legitimately free with ads, but no recent theatrical films or paid platform content |
| Magis TV / Xuper TV / Cuevana | Android APK | Tens of millions in Latin America | The source of the demand; iPhone can't install it |
| Ziliumm | iOS | Removed from the US, Mexico, and Colombia storefronts | Same-period clone shell, recommended alongside Colicine; banned first |
| Shareani / Cinemoto / Ancinere / pdf converter, etc. | iOS | Most have been removed | Earlier links in the same relay chain; the shells range from PDF tools to transparency tools |
| HelloSix.(2026-10-06) | iOS | US: 6 ratings | The one @choicesmovies promotes; the shell is movie info plus trailers |
| Dazofy : Movies, TV Shows(2023-11) | iOS | US: 8,215 ratings | The longest-lived clone; its name includes "Movies" so it can catch store searches |

No one copied anyone. It's a whole parallel matrix, with a new name swapped in every few days. Compared with Colicine, nothing about the product differs; the source library and ads are most likely the same stack (inference). It took off for two reasons: its shell is the least conspicuous, and it's still alive after the earlier links were banned.

### If it were you

**Verdict** : avoid. This isn't "gray-area paid acquisition"; it's piracy plus deceiving review. The library is pirated, and approval depends on a hidden feature and a remote switch. Apple can ban the account or pull the app at any time, and there's copyright liability. Each build lives one to three months, with an estimated $1,000 a month, and what you're risking is your developer account and legal exposure.

**Who it suits** : nobody should copy this. If you're building a legitimate app, read it as a distribution case study.

**Who it doesn't suit** : anyone who wants a product that retains users over time, can be sold, or looks good on a resume. This model builds no assets you can accumulate; one ban and everything goes to zero.

**What to learn** : take only two distribution lessons, not product ones. First, "off-platform traffic pools are the long-term asset": what's valuable is the handful of TikTok accounts and the people who return to the comments every day to ask for the name. The app is just a one-time exit. A legitimate product should also start by building its own content account or community. Second, "rating prompts only go to people who've already tasted the payoff": ask for a rating at the moment a user has completed the core action and is in the best mood. One more useful fact: the free Productivity charts in small Latin American and West African countries can reach the top 50 with a few dozen downloads a day, so legitimate products testing a market can start with those small storefronts.

**How to acquire users** : not applicable. If you want to serve the "iPhone user wants to watch movies free" demand, the legitimate route is building aggregation, watchlist, or reminder tools around free licensed sources like Tubi and Pluto TV. Do it in Spanish, and pitch "which legal free movie can I watch tonight" to the same TikTok audience. That's a different business, and the scale and difficulty need to be recalculated.

**Window before it closes** : there is no window. This relay chain swaps in a new link every few days. Colicine itself hasn't been updated since late September and could be the next one pulled at any time.

**What would show this analysis is wrong** : (1) Apple leaves this type of shell, which switches features remotely after review, alone for long periods. If a build like Colicine survives more than half a year and reaches Top Grossing, banning costs less than it looks (though that wouldn't change the copyright risk). (2) A Spanish aggregation or watchlist app built on legitimate free sources, grown through a TikTok content account among iPhone users in Latin America. That would show the demand can be captured legitimately, and that would be worth following.

Competitors

| Name | Where | Launched | Scale | How it differs from this one |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tubi / Pluto TV / Plex / Kanopy | iOS | 2014-2016 | Tens of millions of users | Legitimately free, limited library; Colicine offers any film (including theatrical releases and paid content like Zeus) for free |
| Magis TV / Xuper TV / Cuevana / Cinema HD | Other | Years | Tens of millions in Latin America, Android APK only | Can't be installed on iPhone; shells like Colicine fill that gap for iPhone users |
| Ziliumm | iOS | 2026 | Removed from the us, mx, and co storefronts | Same-period clone shell (trailers + movie diary + mini-games), recommended on Reddit alongside Colicine; now banned, while Colicine is still up |
| Shareani / Cinemoto / Ancinere / comp study / Layered Transparency | iOS | 2026-09 to October | Earlier links in the TikTok comment relay; most have been removed | Same relay mechanism, just different shells and names |
| HelloSix. | iOS | 2026-10-06 | us 6 ratings | The one @choicesmovies promotes; the shell is movie info plus trailers, filed under Utilities |
| Dazofy : Movies, TV Shows | iOS | 2023-11-04 | us 8,215 ratings | The longest-lived Productivity clone; its name includes "Movies," so it can catch store searches. Colicine picked a name nobody would search for and relies entirely on off-platform word of mouth |
| Movie Box / Xzuper TV / Lok L0ck | iOS | 2026 | Dozens to hundreds of ratings each | These ride on pirate brand names to catch store searches; Colicine doesn't borrow a name |

Where users come from

- Inference **TikTok accounts in Latin American Spanish and French marketing "free movies on iPhone": videos never name the app, and comments relay the name and code** : a TikHub search for "colicine" matched @mook0241 (SN, 10-03 videos, 540k views, 1,734 comments), @drasync (DO), and @choicesmovies (US). The comments contain "¿cómo se llama hoy? ¿y el código?" more than 200 times, plus relay names like Shareani and Cinemoto and mentions of "needs a US VPN" and "only 1–3 days." The specific link between these videos and Colicine has not been verified frame by frame.

- **Verified** **Reddit piracy community word of mouth** : in r/PiratingWebsites, a reply to "IOS app for movies" in the search snippet reads: 'Ziliumm and also Colicine'; r/Cinema_HD has a similar thread (full-text fetch 403).

- **Confirmed** **Organic exposure from Productivity chart in small LatAm countries** : Between 10-28 and 11-06, it ranked #36 to #150 on the Productivity Top Free chart across 14–20 LatAm and West African stores (library: appstore)

- Inferred **in-app rating prompt** : of 359 ratings, 89% are 5 stars, and only 5 written reviews (AppMarketSpy, RSS)

- Inferred **Meta paid acquisition** : the privacy policy says Meta App Events is integrated; no record found in the ad library

## How Colicine (iOS 6797363184) got onto the charts

> Research date 2026-11-06. Stores checked: the library scanned all App Store storefronts (Colicine charted in 26), focusing on the US store (where most ratings are) and LatAm stores (where the chart rankings are).

### Bottom line

Colicine isn't really a "casting notes" tool. It's a shell in an iOS matrix of "hidden-entrance pirate streaming apps." At review it presents as a TMDb-based casting notes app. After approval, a remote config plus a "code" unlocks a hidden streaming mode, monetized with ads. Users don't find it by searching the store. Spanish and French TikTok accounts posting "free movie apps for iPhone" and pirate-streaming Reddit threads keep asking daily "what's it called today?" (¿cómo se llama hoy?). Colicine is the app in that relay chain used from mid-October to early November. The product has no differentiation. What drives installs is the distribution playbook, plus demand left unmet by pirate apps like Magis TV, Xuper TV, and Cuevana, which can't be installed on iPhone.

### 1. Basic data

| items | value | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Developer | Jiale Guo (individual account, this is the only app), bundle `com.jiale.colicine` | iTunes lookup, library appstore.app |
| Launch / current version | Launched 2026-08-16, last updated by 2026-09-26 on 1.3.0 (release note only says "Fix the bug in the icon display"), no updates since | iTunes lookup |
| Category / price | Productivity, free, no in-app purchases | iTunes lookup;AppMarketSpy |
| Rating | 359 US ratings, 4.8 stars (11-06 lookup); only 5 reviews include written text | iTunes lookup; Apple reviews RSS |
| Rating growth | US store in the library: 11-03 is 239,11-04 254 (+15), 11-05 287 (+33), 11-06 327 (+40). StoreTally: +127 in a week (+126%), rank "up 55,002 places from 2026-10-22." One AppMarketSpy day recorded 232 ratings; +110 over the last 7 days | Library appstore.app_day; storetally.com; appmarketspy.com |
| Chart placements | Charted only on the Productivity Top Free category chart. Best ranks between 10-28 and 11-06: Panama #36, Honduras #40, Guatemala #44, Venezuela #48, Bolivia #50, El Salvador and Paraguay #51, Peru #54, Nicaragua #55, Colombia #66, Mexico #65, Argentina #67, Chile #78. Also West African and French-speaking markets Senegal, Mali, Niger, Madagascar, and Angola. Best US rank #120 (11-04) | Library appstore.app_day |
| Revenue | Apple doesn't publish revenue. At takedown, AppSprint estimated about $1K monthly revenue and 1K monthly downloads (unverified). It never reached the Top Grossing chart. | Data card |

**On the data card's "jumped from 2 to 328 ratings in 4 days"** : this is a collection artifact. The library only started tracking it in the US store on 11-03, and by the first day it was captured, the US already had 239 ratings. The "2" figure before that is from other storefronts. The real trend: US ratings started growing steadily around mid-October (earliest US review was 10-19; StoreTally's rank rise began 10-22), with 15–40 new ratings a day recently.

**Abnormal rating distribution** : 89% are 5 stars (AppMarketSpy), and only 5 of 359 ratings include text. This looks like the system rating prompt (SKStoreReviewController) firing in-app, likely when users are happily watching. This is an inference.

### 2. What it actually is

- **Public pitch** : the description, website (colicine-c8132.firebaseapp.com), and support page all talk about "the cast of a movie, a casting experiment of your own," with features like Casting Lab 5 steps, Fan Recast, Our Own Cast, and Challenge, with data from TMDb. The support page even has an FAQ: "Does Colicine play movies? No."

- **What users actually use** :
    - "It actually lets you watch moves even if I was like a long time ago" (US, 10-19,5 stars)
    - "I can watch any movie I want in here but ... too much ads, well the movies are free so i don't really mind, it's like YouTube"(us,10-25)
    - "Love it just wish there was more Zeus/NTTV shows" (US, 10-21). Zeus Network is a paid subscription reality platform, so the catalog contains pirated paid content.
    - "To many adds" (US, 10-31,1 stars)
    - Sources: App Store review page, Apple reviews RSS

- **Clues in the privacy policy** (colicine-c8132.firebaseapp.com/privacy.html, updated 2026-09-03):
    - Ads: integrates Unity LevelPlay (ironSource) mediation, with AdMob, Mintegral, Liftoff, Unity Ads, InMobi, Chartboost, DT Fyber, and Moloco listed, stating "at launch and during use," meaning app-open ads plus interstitial and rewarded ads during use.
    - Shows the ATT tracking permission prompt.
    - Integrates Firebase Analytics and Meta App Events, reporting ad revenue events.
    - **"Firebase Remote Config may be used to adjust App behavior, including advertising-related settings, without requiring an App Store update"** . This is the switch that lets it be A at review and remotely flipped to B after launch.

### 3. Where users come from: TikTok "what's it called today" relay + Reddit word of mouth

#### 3.1 TikTok: Spanish and French "free movie apps for iPhone" accounts (main source; channel confirmed, specific link to Colicine partly unverified)

Searching "colicine" via TikHub, the top 20 results include many colchicine medical videos, plus 3 videos from "movie app recommendation" accounts. None of the video captions mention Colicine, so TikTok likely matched on on-screen text. **Inference, not verified frame by frame** :

| Account | Storefront | Followers | Representative video | Views / comments |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| @mook0241 | Senegal (SN) | 1.5K | 2026-10-03 "#film#iphone#fy#series#mexique🇲🇽" | 543k / 1,734 |
| Same as above | | | 2026-09-27 "#iphone#apk#film#serie#fy" | 481k / 604 |
| @drasync | Dominican Republic (DO) | 2.9K | 2026-09-01 "#movies #ios #series" | 95k / 83 |
| @choicesmovies | US | 1.6K | 2026-10-18 to 10-29, 4 total "best movie app of 2026 #hellosix" | 7–190k / 34–107 |

These accounts all work the same way:

- **The video never names the app** . Comments are almost all "¿Cómo se llama hoy 27 de octubre? ¿y el código?" "C'est quoi le nom de l'application?" "Bro I hate when yall gatekeep." We reviewed 10 videos and roughly 920 comments, and "se llama hoy" appeared 208+ times.

- **The app name rotates every few days** . Relay names that appeared in comments include Shareani, Cinemoto, Ancinere, Smartcard, Layered Transparency, comp study, pdf converter, and HelloSix. User quotes: "YA HAN QUITADO ANCINERE Y SHAREANI" "Shareani no me funciona y Cinemoto no me aparece (para COL)" "Ahora se llama pdf converter."

- **You must enter a code to unlock** : "Me pide código" "¿Cómo hago para que me aparezca la opción de ingresar el código?" "yo pongo day y no pasa nada."

- **Region or IP dependent** : "La gente dice Vpn en EEUU" "Instale primero el VPN y como quiera me sale así" "Comp study region Portugal."

- **Streaming mode turns off after a few days** : one user summed it up: "Actualmente dan margen de 1-3 días máximo para descargas después se deshabilita para ver pelis y solo dejan como juegos," meaning new builds get only 1–3 days of download window, after which movie playback is disabled and only a mini-game or tool shell is left. This matches Colicine's "Challenge" mini-game and the remote config switch.

- **After takedowns or deletions, users return to the comments asking for a new name** : "Actualice mi iPhone y se me borró la aplicación" (88 likes), "o meu caiu alguém sabe o novo nome?"

Why casting notes works as a disguise: it naturally involves searching film titles and showing posters and cast lists, so a hidden playback entrance is least conspicuous to review.

#### 3.2 Reddit pirate communities (confirmed to exist; original post text not readable)

- Search snippets show that in r/PiratingWebsites's thread "IOS app for movies," someone replied: "You can downlaod your fav movies tv series and anime for free. Ziliumm and also Colicine."

- A search also surfaced r/Cinema_HD's "Does anyone know any free movie apps that work" (at capture time the data card mentioned someone recommending "search Ziliumm and Colicine" there). Reddit returned 403 to our scraper, so the body and dates of both threads are **unverified** .

- A summary of r/AskMexico's "Aplicación para iOS para ver series gratis?" includes this line: "Aparece en la Apple Store y suele tener un código. y cómo se llama actualmente," showing that the "search the store for the name + enter a code" routine is already common knowledge in Mexico.

#### 3.3 Other channels

- **Store search** : not a source. "Colicine" has nothing to do with movies and doesn't piggyback on any brand term. Searching "Colicine" on Jina, Brave, and Exa returns colchicine and bacteriocin results. The name is deliberately obscure, so only people who've been told about it can find it.

- **Paid acquisition** : Meta App Events is a common attribution SDK, but our search of the Meta ad library found no record of it (out of list), **unverified** .

- **X / media / TrustMRR** : x-radar shows 0 hits each for "colicine" and "ziliumm" over the last 60 days; no media coverage.

#### 3.4 Why the ratings are in the US but the chart rank is in Latin America

- The Productivity chart in small Latin American countries has a low bar: a few dozen downloads a day gets you into the top 50. Downloads from Spanish-language TikTok are enough to push it into the category charts of 14–20 Latin American and West African stores.

- The reviewers are US iPhone users, with teenage-sounding usernames (Urielplayz_8, alexiahere13), and they want US Black reality shows like Zeus.

- Add the repeated review comments saying "need a US VPN", and it's inferred that the watch mode **is only open to US IPs** . Latin American users without a VPN only see the shell, so they never get the rating prompt. That's why almost all ratings come from the US. This is an inference.

### 4. Where the money comes from

All the money comes from ads, with no subscriptions or in-app purchases. App-open, interstitial and rewarded video ads run through LevelPlay mediation, and US IPs have the highest eCPM, which is also the economic reason the watch mode favors US IPs. Costs are almost only two things: an individual developer account ($99 a year, replaced if banned), and a cut or operation fee for the TikTok burner accounts (unverified). AppSprint estimates about $1K monthly revenue at recall, enough to break even for a one-time shell that lived 1–3 months.

### 5. Competitors

| Name | Where | Launched | Scale | How it differs from Colicine |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tubi / Pluto TV / Plex / Kanopy / Hoopla | iOS, Android, web (legitimately free, ad-supported or library-based) | 2014–2016 | All have millions of users | Legitimate, with a limited catalog and no latest theatrical releases. Colicine sells "any movie can be watched". |
| Magis TV / Xuper TV / Cuevana / Cinema HD | Android APK, Fire TV (the mainstream piracy route in Latin America) | Years | Tens of millions in Latin America | Android sideloading only; iPhone can't install them, which is the demand Colicine-style shells serve |
| Ziliumm(id6779099407) | iOS | 2026 years | Already removed from the us, mx and co stores (lookup returns 0) | A similar shell from the same period (described as YouTube trailers + movie diary + quiz mini-games), recommended on Reddit alongside Colicine. It has been banned; Colicine is still alive. |
| Shareani / Cinemoto / Ancinere / Layered Transparency / comp study / pdf converter | iOS | 2026-09 to October | Repeatedly mentioned in TikTok comment sections, most already removed (the name can't be found in the us store in the library) | Several links in the same relay chain; the shells range from PDF tools to transparency tools |
| HelloSix.(Roy Labs Limited,id6812216088) | iOS,Utilities | 2026-10-06 | us 6 ratings | The one @choicesmovies October was promoting (#hellosix); the shell is movie information plus trailers |
| Dazofy : Movies, TV Shows(id6471257608) | iOS,Productivity | 2023-11-04 | us 8,215 ratings, 4.45 stars | The longest-lived similar shell, also reported under Productivity, with a movie-schedule shell. The name includes Movies directly, so it can ride store search. |
| Movie Box / Xzuper TV / Lok L0ck (which we dissected before) | iOS | 2026 years | Dozens to hundreds of ratings each | Their route is borrowing pirate brand names to ride store search. Colicine doesn't borrow names; it relies entirely on off-platform word of mouth for the name and code. |

### 6. Differentiation

At the product level there is no differentiation: the sources, players and ad mediation are most likely the same stack across these shells (inferred). Colicine differs from its peers in only two ways:

1. The shell chose "TMDb casting notes". This shell itself needs to search titles and show posters and actors, so a hidden playback entry blends in most easily, and it has a complete, believable website, privacy policy and support pages that pass review.

2. It happened to be the relay baton that wasn't banned from mid-October to early November. After Ziliumm, Shareani and Ancinere were removed one after another, the relay traffic landed on it.

So it ran because of "a matrix + off-platform relay + living a bit longer", not because of the product itself.

### 7. Visibility and copycats

- **Visibility: spreading in small circles.** Only mentioned in the comment sections of TikTok Latin American Spanish and French movie-watching accounts, and in Reddit piracy forums; no media coverage, no X discussion, no public revenue. Among third-party tools, only StoreTally and AppMarketSpy automatically indexed it.

- **Copycats** : It's impossible to say who copied whom; it's a whole parallel matrix (Ziliumm, Shareani, Cinemoto, Ancinere, HelloSix, Layered Transparency, comp study...), and a new name appears every few days.

### 8. What's worth borrowing (mechanics only)

- **"Not naming the app" is itself a growth engine** : the videos don't name the app, and thousands of comments asking "what's it called today" push the videos into the feed while filtering out people who would report them.

- **The economics of a disposable shell** : an individual developer account plus Firebase remote config plus ad mediation; one shell lasting 1–3 months is enough to break even. When it's banned, swap in the next one. The off-platform traffic pool (TikTok accounts) is the long-term asset.

- **Choosing the category chart** : chart in Productivity, where the bar is lowest in small Latin American countries. A few dozen downloads gets you into the category chart, plus some organic exposure on the side.

- **The rating prompt is only shown to people who've already had a taste** : 4.8 stars, 89% five-star, with very few written reviews.

(Compliance note: this is a model of piracy plus deceiving app review. Apple can ban the account and remove the app at any time, and there's copyright risk too. What's worth borrowing is the idea of "off-platform private-channel relay + low-bar category charts", not this particular setup.)

### 9. Still unclear

- Whether the Colicine name appears in the frames of those TikTok videos: a search hit only shows TikTok associated these videos with "colicine"; the word appears neither in the video captions nor the comments, and it has not been verified frame by frame.

- Where its us users come from specifically: English-language TikTok, Reddit, Discord or other groups. No direct evidence found.

- Reddit post bodies and posting dates (scraping was blocked by 403).

- Whether the watch mode really is only open to US IPs and what the code is: no installation testing done.

- Revenue: AppSprint estimates $1K a month, unverified; whether it runs Meta ads: unverified.

- Its actual download numbers outside the us store (Apple doesn't publish them).
