The official app broke for three weeks, and a Filipino programmer caught the drivers: RFID PH and the small business of "checking your balance for the official app"

What it is A third-party Filipino app. Enter your RFID account number, no login needed, and see balances, transit history, and monthly statements for both Autosweep and Easytrip toll accounts in one list. It alerts you when your balance runs low.

Why it took off In October, the new official Autosweep app (average rating 1.2) couldn't check balances or reload, and MPT DriveHub (average rating 1.9) often wouldn't open. The developer replied under posts and complaint threads in car-owner groups, picking up drivers looking for an alternative.

CHow you could follow Don't copy it wholesale in the Philippines. Copy the judgment behind it: look for a situation where one thing is split across several operators, the official app is bad, and there's a public lookup page. Build a small tool that does "enter your number to check, multiple accounts in one place, low-balance alerts" well, then go capture users in the complaint groups during the days the official app goes down.

C grade: the Philippine market is small, and the early mover is online and updating fast. Estimated revenue is tens of dollars a day. The data comes from operators' public query endpoints and the traffic from the official app's outages, so the window closes once the official app is fixed or the endpoints change. What's worth learning is the playbook, not following it. Still barely known

The official apps of the Philippines' two toll-road operators both broke in 2026 October. A one-person third-party app, RFID PH, launched and within three weeks climbed to #3 on the Philippine App Store Travel Top Grossing chart. Its users were recruited one by one from Facebook car-owner groups, with no ads. The ceiling on this business is low and the foundation is shaky, but the method is worth noting: when the official side breaks, wait where users are complaining.

A post in a car-owner group

2026 Oct 19, at 6:21 PM, a man named Paul Mora posted in the Facebook group "FORD EVEREST GROUP PHILIPPINES" (43.9k members). The title read "New 'RFID PH' app for Autosweep and Easytrip." The body was a few lines: "Permission to post admins. I want to share my new RFID App to everyone. Check your Autosweep and Easytrip balances and more – all in one app nalang." The first reply below was: can you top up?

Paul Mora's full name is Paul Fredrick Morales, a Filipino indie dev whose only App Store app is this one. He launched it in Oct 12, then posted on his Instagram the next day: "friends and family … download and give it a try", 17 likes. By Nov 6, the iOS app had 50 ratings averaging 4.94; Google Play showed 1K+ installs.

What it is

Expressways in Luzon are split between two operators: the SMC-affiliated roads use Autosweep stickers, and the MPTC-affiliated roads use Easytrip stickers. Drivers who regularly use highways usually need both, and balances are topped up and checked separately.

RFID PH does something simple. Enter your RFID account number, no login needed, and see the balances for all accounts across both operators in one list, refreshed automatically when you open the app. It also has low-balance alerts, Autosweep transit and top-up records for the past 6 months, Easytrip monthly statements, notes on which roads accept which sticker, balance hiding, and app lock.

Pricing is tiered by number of accounts. The free version allows 2 accounts and shows ads. Plus is ₱49, Pro ₱99, and Max ₱199, all annual subscriptions. Lifetime one-time purchase is ₱499 (App Store Philippines page, 11-06). ₱49 is roughly $0.85.

Why October

Not because it's especially new. In 2021 there was already RFID Wallet (₱299 one-time purchase, 167 ratings, average 2.1). In August 2024, an app called RFID Trackers did exactly the same thing (one app for both balances). As of today it has 25 ratings and isn't on any chart.

October was different because both official apps broke at the same time.

SMC launched a new Autosweep Mobile App in April 2026. By Nov 6 it had 232 ratings on the Philippines App Store, averaging 1.2. Reviews from late October to early November were almost all 1-star, with very similar content:

"Can't check my balance thru this app, 'Your vehicle plate is not recognized' and to contact customer care." (11-04) "Cannot top-up through app for weeks already." (11-03) "They published another app only to lock out existing users." (11-02) "SMC makes billions per year and yet cannot maintain a simple app." (11-01)

The other operator's MPT DriveHub averaged 1.9 (1,431 ratings), with the old problem: it wouldn't open.

Not being able to check a balance has consequences beyond inconvenience. You can arrive at a toll gate and find the card empty, get stopped, and repeated violations bring fines. RFID PH's early reviews made this point clearly: "It makes it easy to check if your RFID still has a balance, so you won't be caught off guard – finding out only when you reach the toll gate that it's actually empty." (10-14)

By November, reviews were directly comparing it to the official app:

"App is big help since the official app for rfid are always down" (10-17) "PUCHA MAS MAAYOS PA TO KESA SA OFFICIAL APP!" (Tagalog: "Wow, this is even better than the official app!", 10-29) "I cannot open my MPT DriveHub so finding this app was like finding a treasure trove." (11-04)

Where users come from: waiting in the places where people are complaining about the official app

Every channel we could find for it is free:

  • Posting in car owner groups. That's the post at the top. Ask the admin's permission first, then post. That's the rule in Philippine Facebook groups.
  • Replying under complaint threads. Several Autosweep user groups have threads about "can't check my balance," and the search engine snippets for them all contain the same line: "The issue with checking your Autosweep balance has been resolved. ✓ Please UPDATE your RFID PH app to the latest version." Under an Autosweep login-failure post from Oct 27, someone replied "try rfid ph app." We can't verify who wrote these, but it's quite likely the developer was present (inference).
  • Meta AI pushed it again. Facebook turned the group discussions into an AI summary page, "Autosweep RFID Mobile App Download and Features," whose first line reads: "The 'RFID PH' app lets you check Autosweep and Easytrip balances in one place" (the page shows 53 people discussing it). Posts made in groups got picked up by the platform and became free exposure.
  • The name is the search term. The app is called RFID PH, with the subtitle "Philippines' #1 RFID App. Autosweep & Easytrip all in one app." 11-06 On the Philippines App Store, it ranks #1 for "RFID balance" and #3 for "easytrip."
  • Asking for ratings inside the app. The 1.1.0 version's release notes say "Added in-app review." That explains the 4.94 average rating, and it also explains why so many reviews just say "Helpful" or "Nice."

No related videos show up on TikTok, there's no discussion on X in nearly 30 days, no media coverage, and no sign of paid ads.

Being #3 on the Top Grossing chart sounds loud, but the Travel category's Top Grossing bar in the Philippines is very low. The apps above it are global ones like Flighty and Flightradar24, which make only a fraction of their revenue in the Philippines. At a few hundred users and ₱49–499 per purchase, it's probably making tens of dollars a day right now (estimate, not verified).

A local precedent shows the ceiling for tools like this: Toll PH (indie developer Ryan Zoleta, launched in 2024 July) only calculates toll fees. It has 586 iOS ratings averaging 4.89, has stayed in the PH Travel Top Grossing chart at #26–113 for a long time, and has 32k installs on Android. It can support one person, but it won't get big.

Is it on solid ground?

Three things make it shaky.

The data isn't from the official source. You can check without logging in, just by entering your account number. The data most likely comes from public query endpoints like the carrier websites' Quick Balance and billing pages (inference). Autosweep already went down once, which is why the group message said "fixed, please update." If the carriers change or block those endpoints, the app stops working the same day.

The window was opened by the official side. Users flooded in because the official app broke. The day SMC fixes Quick Balance and restores online top-ups, most of the new-user inflow dries up. The ones who stay are those with a real need: people with several vehicles or who manage fleets (a review says "Very convenient app especially if you have a fleet of vehicles to monitor"), and people who need monthly statements for expense reports.

Two operators are merging. Starting late 2025, Easytrip and Autosweep launched "One RFID, All Tollways," so one sticker works on all toll roads in Luzon. The more people register, the less need there is for "check both."

One feature users keep asking for that it doesn't have is top-up: "Why no way to reload? This would be my go-to app except for that missing feature." (3 stars, 11-04). But for a third party to offer top-up, it has to integrate payments and carriers, which is no longer something one person can do over a weekend.

Since Oct 12, no new Autosweep / Easytrip balance apps have appeared on the App Store. In the Philippines, this spot now belongs to it, and the developer is present and ships updates quickly.

If it were you

Verdict: C. What's worth learning is its approach. The Philippine cake itself isn't worth fighting over. The market is this small, the early mover has already claimed it, and the foundation is someone else's endpoints and someone else's outages.

Who it suits: a solo developer who can build an app and is already in a local market where the official app is bad and users have no choice but to use something, and who can blend into local car owner, homeowner, and parent groups.

Who it doesn't suit: anyone who wants to build an RFID lookup in the Philippines the same way (it's three weeks late, the competition is online and free, and what's left is a small set of fleet users); anyone counting on stable income from it (the data source can cut off at any time); anyone unwilling to reply in groups one post at a time (that's where all its volume comes from).

How to do it: Don't copy this app. Copy how it picks its opportunities. Look for scenarios like this: the same thing is managed separately by two or more bodies (toll roads, utilities, parking, transit cards, school fees), the official app has a rating below 2, and there's a public lookup page that needs no login. Build the smallest useful thing: enter a number and see the balance, combine multiple accounts in one place, and alert you when you're running low. Charge per account, at a price low enough that nobody has to think about it, and offer a lifetime one-time purchase. India's FASTag, Indonesia's e-Toll, and Vietnam's VETC / ePass are similarly fragmented markets, but there banks and payment apps may already have built balance checks in, so look at the stores and reviews yourself before you start (inference, not verified).

How to get users: Go where users are complaining about the official app. In Facebook groups, get the admin's approval before posting. On the days the official app is down, reply once under every "can't check my balance" thread. Name the app after the words users search for. Once the version is stable, prompt for a rating inside the app.

When to move: The window for this kind of opportunity is the official app's outage period, usually a few weeks. So pick the scenario first, get the app to about 80%, and launch on the day the official app fails. If you start after you see it in the news, you're already too late.

What would show I got it wrong: (1) After the official Autosweep app is fixed (ratings back above 3 and online top-up restored), RFID PH's rating growth still holds at more than 15 per week, showing it isn't only riding the outage, and the Philippines is worth another look; (2) conversely, if RFID PH's data breaks again and stays broken for two weeks, the "borrow the endpoints" approach is more fragile than it looks; (3) if One RFID registrations grow large enough that the complaint threads about Autosweep balance checks disappear, the merger has eaten the demand itself.

Why RFID PH could take off (iOS id6797734095)

In one line: a third-party tool built by Filipino indie developer Paul Fredrick Morales (online name Paul Mora; listed on Play as PMSoft Ph). Users enter only their account number, with no login, and see balances, trips, top-ups, and monthly statements for both Autosweep (SMC) and Easytrip (MPTC) RFID in one screen. Launched 2026-10-12.

Verdict

It took off mainly because of timing: in 2026 October, both operators' official apps broke at once. Autosweep released a new app rated 1.2; "Quick Balance" kept reporting plate/account mismatches, and online top-ups stopped for weeks. MPT DriveHub is rated 1.9 and often won't open. Drivers needed a way to check balances fast. The developer posted in Facebook car owner groups and replied under complaint threads in Autosweep communities, and that's where the users came from.

The product difference is "no login + both operators' multiple accounts in one place + low-balance alerts + billing history." That is what makes people stay and willing to pay ₱49–₱499. But why people are arriving now is the official apps failing. Scale is still small: 50 iOS ratings, 1K+ Android installs. No media coverage, no X discussion, no copycats yet.

1. Data (what I checked: scanned all storefronts in the database; charted only in PH)

  • iOS ratings: 10/28 18 → 11/06 45 (appstore db app_day, ph); Apple lookup on 11/06 showed 50 ratings, average 4.94. 7 new in the last 25 days; single-day peaks were 11/01 +7 and 11/06 +8.
  • Charts: on PH Travel Top Grossing, charted every day from 10/28 to 11/06, ranks 3–15 (10/29 #3,11/06, #15); over the same period it held #32–35 on PH Travel Top Free (chart_rank, ph, genre 6003). The PH Travel Top Grossing bar is low, and the top of that chart is global apps like Flighty and Flightradar24, so the revenue at ranks 3–15 is probably only tens of dollars a day (inferred, not verified).
  • In-app pricing (App Store PH page): Plus ₱49, Pro ₱99, Max ₱199, all annual subscriptions; Ultimate lifetime one-time purchase ₱499. The free version allows 2 account, with ads.
  • Android (googleplay db, com.rfidbalance.rfidbalanceapp): installs went from 10/29 491 to 11/05 1,173, +454 in the last 7 days; the Play page shows 1K+ installs, a 4.8 rating, and 37 reviews; best rank on PH Travel & Local Top Free was #67.
  • Release cadence: 3 weeks, 1.0.1 to 1.1.0 (11/06). Release notes include "Added in-app review," plus new Autosweep trip and top-up history and Easytrip monthly statements.

Bottom line: similar tools existed (RFID Wallet 2021, RFID Trackers 2024), but they either charged money with poor reviews, or were basic and unmaintained. The official apps broke at the same time in October, leaving the "good third-party combined balance checker" slot empty.

3. Growth tactics (evidence)

  1. Developer posted in a FB car group (confirmed): 2026-10-19, Paul Mora posted "New 'RFID PH' app for Autosweep and Easytrip … Permission to post admins" in the "FORD EVEREST GROUP PHILIPPINES" group. Someone below asked whether it could top up (https://www.facebook.com/groups/1716522145455455/posts/2639860629788264/).
  2. Replies under Autosweep complaint threads (likely): several Autosweep community groups (groups 120152838083, 84477941537, 1087184475577679) discuss posts about Autosweep problems. Search-indexed summaries of these posts contain the same line: "The issue with checking your Autosweep balance has been resolved. ✓ Please UPDATE your RFID PH app to the latest version." There is also a 10/27 Autosweep login-failure thread where a comment reads "try rfid ph app." It was apparently promoted right where people were discussing the official breakdown.
  3. Meta AI recommending it in FB search summaries (confirmed): the "Autosweep RFID Mobile App Download and Features" summary opens with RFID PH (53 people talking). The "Autosweep RFID App Not Working" page also mentions RFID PH's fix. Group posts get folded into Meta AI summaries, so they act as a free distribution channel.
  4. Personal network launch (confirmed): the developer announced it on personal IG (dj.paulmora): "friends and family … download and give it a try"; 17 likes (10/13).
  5. Store search and ASO (confirmed): the app name uses the category term "RFID PH", and the subtitle reads "Philippines' #1 RFID App. Autosweep & Easytrip all in one app." Searching "RFID balance" in PH on iTunes ranks it #1; searching "easytrip" ranks it #3.
  6. In-app review prompt (confirmed): release notes say "Added in-app review." This may explain the 4.94 rating and the short reviews (many just say "Helpful" or "Nice").
  7. Not found: TikTok (no related videos for "RFID PH app" via TikHub search), X (30 posts in the last 0 days per x-radar), media coverage, or evidence of paid ads. A Reddit account u/AstronautOk1774 has a bio saying "RFID PH tracks both Easytrip and Autosweep balances," possibly a developer alt, but the page was blocked by 403 and I couldn't verify it.

4. Why users come, stay, and pay

  • Come: the official apps broke at the same time in October. Users can't check balances, find out they're out of credit only at the toll gate, get stuck at the barrier, and face three violation fines. User quotes: "official app for rfid are always down", "I cannot open my MPT DriveHub", "PUCHA MAS MAAYOS PA TO KESA SA OFFICIAL APP".
  • Stay: people with multiple vehicles or a fleet want to refresh all balances at once (reviews mention a "fleet of vehicles"). Low-balance alerts prevent barrier stops, and 6 months of statements can be used for expense reports.
  • Paid: the free version only allows 2 accounts, and you have to upgrade once you add a 3nd car or a fleet. Pricing is low (from ₱49/year, about $0.85 USD), and lifetime is ₱499, so people rarely hesitate to pay.
  • Clearest gap: no top-ups. One 3-star review says "No way to reload?", and under the FB post someone asked whether it could top up.

5. Differentiation, and whether it explains the growth

The differentiators are: (1) no login, just enter your account number; (2) both operators' multiple accounts in one list, refreshed together; (3) account-management features like low-balance alerts, billing history, hidden balances, and app lock; (4) noticeably better design and update speed than the official apps and older third-party tools.

These differences let it catch people leaving the official apps and get them to pay. But the real trigger for growth is the timing of the official app failures, plus the developer working the FB groups. RFID Trackers had the same features in 2024 and didn't take off.

6. Visibility and copycats

  • Visibility: still very few people know about it. No media, X, or TikTok coverage, no public revenue. It has only spread through FB car groups, plus Meta AI summaries.
  • Copycats: none for now. In the full appstore catalog, there are no new Autosweep/Easytrip balance apps since 10/12.

VII. What to take away

  • Look for scenarios where the official app is bad and users have no choice: split-operator tolls, utilities, parking, transit cards. Move in during the window when the official app breaks, with a light aggregator that needs no login, just an account number.
  • Cold start needs no ad budget: post and reply in FB groups and communities where users are already complaining about the official app. Content in those groups also gets picked up by Meta AI summaries, which gives a second round of distribution.
  • Pricing is tiered by number of accounts, with a very cheap annual fee plus a lifetime one-time purchase, aimed at people with multiple cars or fleets.
  • The same model could move to India FASTag (multiple issuing banks), Indonesia e-Toll (multi-bank cards), Vietnam VETC/ePass, and other equally fragmented markets (from the recall-card direction, not separately verified).

8. Not sure

  • How the data is obtained: probably by hitting unofficial endpoints like the official Quick Balance and billing pages. Autosweep's balance check has already broken once (the developer posted "fixed"); if the carrier changes its interface or blocks access, the App stops working.
  • Whether users stay after the official fix; as One RFID interoperability spreads, the need to "check two sites" shrinks.
  • Actual revenue: Top Charts 3–15 in PH Travel with a very low bar, absolute amounts not verified.
  • Whether the Reddit alt accounts and FB replies were all written by the developer themselves was not verified one by one.
