"Australia owes you 3300 AUD": how a Belgian turned a 88-day counter into a subscription
What it is An admin manager for French-speaking working-holiday backpackers in Australia: it scans payslips, automatically counts the 88 days needed for a visa extension, estimates tax and super refunds, and sells monthly or annual subscriptions.
Why it took off Similar apps also count days, but its first screen says "Australians are owed 3300 AUD on average", which makes a subscription of a few dozen euros a year look cheap. Users mainly came from affiliate links posted by French-speaking creators currently in Australia. The French Finance Top Grossing chart has a low bar, so a few subscriptions can chart.
BHow you could follow it Pick a working-holiday language that has no native tool yet (German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Traditional Chinese or Spanish). Copy its approach: build a web version first, then after the questionnaire show the "how much you can get back" screen before the paywall; find 10–20 native-language creators currently in Australia and pay them commission via tracked links.

There are at least ten free-ish "count 88 days" apps for Australian working holidays on the App Store. WHV Wallet is one that reached iOS in 2026 October; it has a French-only interface and costs €14.99 a month. It has only 9 ratings, yet has held #21–64 on the French Finance Top Grossing chart. Below: what it sells, why French backpackers pay, where its users come from, its ceiling, and whether copying the approach in another language is worth it.
a 4000-view video
In 2026 August 14, Rach, a French woman doing a working holiday in Australia (TikTok @rachsbss, 7.8K followers), posted a video captioned "je vous jure, ça va sauver votre séjour en Australie @WHVWALLET" ("I swear, this will save your year in Australia"). The link was whvwallet.com/?a=rachs. The video got 3972 views; three days later she posted another, "c'est vraiment du génie cette application" ("this app is really genius"), with 4181 views.
That's not a big number. But her audience is exactly the person this product is looking for: in July, two of her everyday videos got 2.68M and 1.32M views, tagged #australia #whv #88days, so her viewers are mostly people in or about to start a working holiday in Australia. The ?a=rachs in the link suggests per-creator tracking, likely commission.
WHV Wallet wasn't on the App Store yet. The iOS version launched in October 2, and a five-star review that day read: "Après 8 mois en Australie, j'utilise encore l'application……(avant que j'arrive en Australie jusqu'à maintenant)" ("After 8 months in Australia, I'm still using the app… (since before I arrived in Australia until now)"). The app had been live for one day and this user had already used it for 8 months, which suggests it built a web version first and grew a user base before launching on iOS (inferred).
What it actually is
An "admin manager" for French-speaking working-holiday makers (called PVT in French). The developer, Joshua Arts, is an individual developer in Belgium with this single app. Three main functions:
- Scan payslips: take a photo or upload a PDF and it automatically recognizes the employer, gross and net pay, and hours. An October 27 review says: "imported 15 PDFs at once, deduplicated and sorted them in 10 seconds".
- Count 88 days: to get a second-year visa you must work 88 days in a regional area. It counts from payslips, tells you which employers qualify and which don't, and finally exports a proof pack for the extension application.
- Calculate how much you can get back: it estimates the excess tax and super by employer, then walks you step by step through how to claim the refund. The official site says "guide you to the transfer", meaning it teaches you to do it, not that it does it for you.
It also has a checklist of to-dos from 30 days before departure, and a Face ID-protected document vault. Version 1.2.0 (10-15) switched all amounts to AUD.
Pricing (French App Store page): €14.99 a month, €89.99 a year, with a 6% off annual promo at €39.99. A questionnaire comes first, and the price appears only after "personalizing your space", the standard questionnaire-style paywall.
9 ratings, so how does it chart?
First, a reality check on that rank.

| 11-06 | 26 | 42 | 9 |
(App Store charts, daily. It has never entered any overall chart.)
On 6 November, it sat around #26 on the French Finance Top Grossing chart, next to Splitwise (493 ratings), Easy AMF (134), Mes Allocs (1) and Breakout (2). That segment has a low bar, and a few subscriptions a day is probably enough to chart (inferred). So the rank only shows that people are paying, not that it's making much money. The third-party estimator Searvia gives monthly revenue of $1K–5K, unverified.
The scale is small, but the fact is worth noting: in a category where nearly everyone else is free, it charges €14.99 a month, and people actually pay.
Why French backpackers will pay
It doesn't say "count the days for you", it says "Australia owes you money". The official site's first screen shows a "visa end settlement statement": 1800 AUD in excess tax, 1500 AUD in super to reclaim, and 3300 AUD on average you can get back (footnote: "average for 12 months of working holiday, not guaranteed; sources ATO, WHV Community survey 2024"; the source wasn't checked). 3300 AUD sits beside it, and at €39.99 a year it looks worth it whichever way you do the maths. Similar apps talk about days; this one starts from money.
French only. The app description's first line is "for French-speaking backpackers", and it explicitly notes the interface is in French. Roughly 25k French people get Australian working-holiday visas each year (estimate), plus Belgians, Swiss and Quebecers. This audience has its own circles: the pvtistes community, city-based French Facebook groups and French TikTok. English tools have very little presence in these circles.
It covers the whole process, so it can support a subscription. From pre-departure to-dos, through weekly payslips, the 88 days, tax returns and super, there is something it manages every week of the year. A single counter can only be sold once; a year-long manager can be sold monthly.
Where users come from: finding French creators living in Australia
The confirmed promotions are almost all from French-speaking creators with 1K–8K followers who are currently in Australia:
- TikTok @rachsbss: two sponsored videos in August, about 4000 views each, link ?a=rachs.
- TikTok @latoile22 ("documenting life in Australia", 1K followers): the profile link points straight to whvwallet.com/?a=latoile, and a sponsored video in September 7 got 780 views.
- Instagram @keiconsulting (Célie Kei, French PVT consulting): a Jun 22 Reel says "Use WHV Wallet and it builds you a personalized plan before you even take off." That was over three months before the iOS launch.
- Instagram @frenchkunt1: "with WHV Wallet, keep everything in one place".
Indirect evidence of the reach comes from the Facebook group "Français à Sydney", where someone asked: "je tombe sur pas mal de vidéos de WHV wallet… est-ce que ça vaut le coup de payer pour ça ?" ("I keep running into a lot of WHV Wallet videos… is it worth paying for?"). Within this small circle it has spread enough to get noticed, and people know it charges.
Compare its own official accounts: TikTok @whvwallet has posted 94 guide videos with 405 followers and 3–220 views per video; Instagram has 1.2K followers and almost no comments. Its own content has barely any reach; the traffic comes from small creators. No evidence of paid ads was found, but that can't be ruled out.
Who it's competing with
Just the "count 88 days" niche is crowded, with more than six added between 2026 and 5 July:
| Product | Scale (App Store rating count, 11-06) | vs WHV Wallet |
|---|---|---|
| pvtistes (the leading French PVT community, since 2005) | FR store 1518 | Free; news, mutual help, checklists, document vault, no money tracking |
| The 88th Day(2019) | AU store 462 | English; employer directory + day counting; ranked about 53 in AU Finance Top Grossing |
| My Visa Tracker(2025) | AU store 8; official site claims 3000+ users | English; day counting + reports, from AU$7.99/month, also sells subscriptions |
| 88 Days Calculator 2.0 (WikiFarms, updated 10-13) | 0 | Free, in French; new version also reads payslips to auto-fill, and adds an AI guide |
| All Good: WHV Tracker(2026-06) | 3 | English; day counting + pay checks against minimum wage + take-home and super estimates, the closest feature match |
| 88mates, Your 88 Days, WHV Tracker, etc. | 1–17 | Free or lightweight day counters, mostly in English or multilingual |
Plus a pile of free web calculators. WHV Wallet is not the first, and not the most complete. Payslip scanning, day counting, document storage: others have it or are catching up. The 2.0 version of 88 Days Calculator added payslip recognition and French descriptions two weeks after launch, copying the playbook. Its edge is the combination: French only, pitched on money, subscription-based, backed by a network of French micro-influencers.
One more shift: the official site now has an English version (whvwallet.com/en), and they've opened an English Instagram, @whvwallet.en. It appears to be preparing an English-market push (inference). That market is held by The 88th Day, My Visa Tracker and All Good.
If it were you
B. The playbook is clear and copyable: pick a closed-language community, lead with how much money users can get back, sell subscriptions, and pay micro-influencers commissions. The weak points are also clear: a single language means only tens of thousands of users, the features have no real moat, and free alternatives are everywhere. Copying it works as a small, steady side business. Scaling it big is hard.
Who it's for: 1–2 people, one of whom has worked abroad on a working holiday (Australia, New Zealand, or Canada), whose first language is neither English nor French, and who already has blogger contacts and groups in that community. You'll also need to build payslip recognition and a quiz-style paywall, and neither is technically hard.
Who it doesn't suit: anyone wanting an English version (The 88th Day and My Visa Tracker are already there, and WHV Wallet is coming in too); anyone wanting a French version (WHV Wallet and pvtistes already own it); anyone hoping to capture organic store traffic with a free day counter (that tier already has a dozen-plus players).
How to build it: first check which countries the Australian and New Zealand working holiday visas are mainly issued to, then pick a language with many visa holders, a closed community of its own, and no native-language tool yet (German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Traditional Chinese and Spanish are worth a look; I haven't verified which is the emptiest). Start with a web app: questionnaire → headline on the first screen "how much you can get back on average" → paywall. Payslip recognition, 88-day counting, and guided steps for tax and super are the core; add the rest later. Once the web version proves people pay, go to iOS.
How to acquire users: find 10–20 native-language creators who are currently in Australia with 1K–10K followers, give each a personal link (follow its ?a= approach), and pay commission per sale. Write the pitch in a real person's voice: "this saved my second-year visa." An official account can post guides, but don't expect it to drive volume.
When to move: there's no hard window. WHV Wallet is already opening an English version and can easily move to other languages next, and free tools like 88 Days Calculator are adding payslip recognition too. If you want a specific language, lock in local creators within a few months, ideally before it or a free competitor reaches that language.
Where this could be wrong: ① once WHV Wallet's English version launched, it held a top-50 spot on the AU finance Top Grossing chart, showing it can cross languages, so your single-language niche could be covered quickly; ② its FR chart rank dropped out of the top 100 on the finance Top Grossing chart in early 2027, suggesting creator-driven volume can't sustain subscriptions and renewals; ③ large free communities like pvtistes now include tax and super estimates, which nullifies the "money" angle.

One line
A working holiday (PVT/WHV) admin butler for French-speaking backpackers in Australia: scan your payslips → auto-calculate the 88 days, tax refunds and super, then generate the proof documents needed for your second-year visa. The developer is Belgian solo developer Joshua Arts, with this one app. Its "breakout" is small: in the French finance Top Grossing chart, it ranked between #21 and #64 with only 9 ratings. It made the chart because that chart has a low bar, and it's subscription-based (€14.99/month, €89.99 a year, promo price €39.99) while most rivals are free. Users come mainly through commission-based referral links from French TikTok / Instagram micro-influencers.

- Low bar to entry: In France's Finance Top Grossing chart at #2026-11-06, it sits between Splitwise (493 ratings), Easy AMF (134), Mes Allocs (1) and Breakout (2) (appstore library chart_rank joined to app_profile). That means a handful of subscriptions a day is enough to land somewhere in ranks 20–30 on France's Finance Top Grossing chart. So the rank tells you people are paying, not that the app is making a lot. The third-party estimator Searvia puts monthly revenue at $1K–$5K (unverified).
- In-app purchases (App Store FR page): Visa Pass monthly €14.99, yearly €89.99, yearly -60% promo €39.99. The official FAQ says "we personalize first, then show your price before payment," i.e. questionnaire-style onboarding → paywall.
- Release dates: iOS 2026-10-02,1.2.0 version 2026-10-15 (added Face ID, widgets, all amounts switched to AUD). The interface is French only.

| Web tools | Web | Years | — | Free 88-day calculators / spreadsheets from australie-guidebackpackers, mylittlefrance, the88thday and backpackerjobboard |
Bottom line: for just 'counting 88 days' there are at least 10 apps and a pile of free web tools, several of them French or in French. 2026 5–July added 6 or more. WHV Wallet is not the first, and not the most complete.
3. Growth tactics: affiliate creators + their own short videos
- French creator affiliate links (confirmed, main channel)
- TikTok @rachsbss(Rach,7.8K 粉丝,是在澳洲的法国女生,2026-07 有两条 130 万和 270 万播放的爆款):2026-08-14 发「je vous jure, ça va sauver votre séjour en Australie @WHVWALLET」,带链接 whvwallet.com/?a=rachs,3972 次播放;2026-08-17 又发「c'est vraiment du génie cette application」,4181 次播放(TikHub)。
- TikTok @latoile22 (La Toile, 1K followers, 'documenting life in Australia'): the profile link points straight to whvwallet.com/?a=latoile; 2026-09-07 posted a promo video with 780 views (TikHub).
- Instagram @keiconsulting (Célie Kei, French PVT consultant): 2026-06-22's Reel reads 'Pour ça, utilise WHV Wallet.
(Jina search snippet). In this small circle, creator videos have spread enough to get noticed, and people know it's paid.
- The
?a=parameter suggests per-person affiliate tracking, or at least per-person tracking. Creator promotion started 2026-06, 3–4 months before the iOS launch. The likely sequence: web version first (the site has /onboarding and login), then iOS after building up users. A review on launch day (10-02) from an AU user reads 'in Australia for 8 months and I'm still using this app… from before departure until now', which supports this.
- Own content (confirmed, weak results): TikTok @whvwallet has 94 videos and 405 followers, with single videos mostly at 3–220 views; Instagram @whvwallet has 1.2K+ followers and 27 posts, with almost no comments (0); the Facebook page has only 6 follows. The content is '#guidegratuit' guides (tax return deadline, how to read a payslip, six PVT steps). Starting 2026-11, an English account @whvwallet.en was opened, probably preparing for the English market.
- Paid ads: our Meta Ad Library doesn't index this Page (the library only tracks products on our list, so no result doesn't mean no spend). The site's
?a=links and quiz-style paywall look built for ads, but we found no evidence of ad spend. - App Store search: in the 'You might also like' section it appears alongside Workaroo and All Good (Jina search results), so some organic traffic exists, but the volume is unverified.
- Media / X / Reddit: x-radar shows 0 searches for 'WHV Wallet' over the last 60 days; no press coverage, and it's not on TrustMRR either.
4. Why it took off
- Blunt about money: competitors talk about 'counting your days'. This one talks about 'Australia owes you money'. The homepage headline reads: 'Overpaid tax 1800 AUD + super 1500 AUD = average recoverable 3300 AUD'. Users can easily compare 3300 AUD with €39.99 a year, which is the core reason it dares to charge a subscription and can make the Top Grossing chart.
- French only: the interface is French only, and the first line of the description is 'for French-speaking backpackers'. About 25k people from France take the Australian WHV each year (recall-card data), plus Belgians, Swiss and Quebecers. The French-speaking crowd forms its own circle (pvtistes, French Facebook groups, French TikTok), and English tools have little presence there.
- Covers the whole process, not just a counter: from the to-do list at D-30 before departure, through payslips, 88 days, the tax return and super withdrawal, to an encrypted document vault. This lets it sell monthly and annual plans rather than a one-off small tool.
- Small creator affiliates drive the volume: they recruited French women who already live in Australia, with 1K–8K followers, to post real-person recommendations like 'this app saved my visa', with personal links. Low cost, high trust, and it hits the target audience directly.
- Low Top Grossing bar amplifies the signal: the French finance Top Grossing chart only needs a few subscriptions a day to reach the top 30, so 9 ratings can place it at #21–64. The rank is real, but the scale is small.
5. Differentiation: is that why it took off?
- How it differs: ① French only; ② centered on the payslip, automatically working out the money (tax, super, net pay); ③ charges a subscription where nearly all rivals are free; ④ markets with the line 'average 3300 AUD recoverable'.
- Is it the reason? The combo of French + storytelling about money + subscription is why it charted in Top Grossing, not the features themselves. Payslip scanning, a 88-day counter, and a file vault: All Good, 88 Days Calculator 2.0, and pvtistes already have these or are adding them, so the bar is low. Its real moat is its French influencer distribution relationships, plus the positioning of being paid and money-focused.
6. How many people have seen it, and is anyone copying it?
- Visibility: few people know about it yet. No press coverage, 0 on X, no public revenue on TrustMRR, and it's only discussed in French PVT circles (Facebook groups, small TikTok creators).
- Followers: probably yes. 88 Days Calculator shipped 2.0 versions on 2026-10-13, adding 'auto-fill from payslip photo / screenshot / PDF' and French copy, less than two weeks after WHV Wallet launched on iOS. The official pvtistes app (2026-11-06 update) also added an encrypted 'coffre-fort' file vault. We can't confirm who came first; they may also have built these independently. In 2026 alone, 6 or more day-counting apps launched in this category, so competition was already intensifying.
7. What to learn from it
- Find a visa or bureaucratic situation with a clear amount you can get back (tax refund, super, deposits, subsidies), put 'how much you can get back' on the first screen, and use the subscription to compare against that amount.
- Split audiences by language: the same product could be rebuilt in Spanish, Italian, German, Japanese or Korean, covering Australia WHV, New Zealand WHV and Canada IEC. Each language circle is closed and already has small creators.
- First use web + quiz-style onboarding + creator affiliate links (?a=) to validate that people will pay, then go to iOS to capture organic store traffic and the smaller category Top Grossing charts.
- Look for real people with 1K–10K followers who already live in your target scenario. That works far better than running your own official account (single videos there get only dozens to a couple hundred views).
8. Still unclear
- Real paying users and revenue (the Top Grossing bar is low; the $1K–5K from Searvia is a third-party estimate).
- Whether they ran Meta / TikTok ads; what the affiliate commission rate is; how many web-version paying users there are.
- When the web version actually launched (inferred around 2026-06); whether the founder did a PVT personally (the Facebook page lists an Australian +61 number, suggesting they're in Australia).
- The source of the '3300 AUD' claim (the site cites 'ATO, WHV Community survey 2024'), unverified.
- Whether tax refunds and super were actually recovered for users, or only estimated plus step-by-step guidance (the site says 'guide you to the transfer', suggesting guidance, not handling the claim for them).
