# "Paid, but the servers don't work": how a batch of empty "Turkish drama" apps in Arabic-speaking markets climbed the Entertainment charts

**What it is** An Arabic-language "Turkish drama catalog" app, with data from TMDB. After launch it added a subscription of about $5 per week, and users thought paying would let them watch the shows.

**Why it took off** Pirate drama sites popular with Arab audiences keep getting shut down, and iOS has no legit free way to watch Turkish dramas. People search "Turkish drama" in the App Store and download whatever comes up. Entertainment charts in small countries have a low bar, and one operator rotating multiple accounts pushed it up.

**C** **How you could follow** Don't copy the empty shell. If you can get legitimate licenses, learn from Turkish publishers who build Arabic-interface single-title or aggregator apps. If you only want to test demand, run a package on the topic keywords in low-bar stores like Algeria or Yemen.

C grade: the demand is real, but at least 15 packages of this same empty-shell type are already competing, and it survives by misleading paying users and rotating accounts. Revenue hasn't been proven, and the window could close any time. The legit route requires licenses most indie devs can't get. The useful takeaway is the small-market chart method for testing demand; following this playbook isn't worth it. Few people know about it yet

HiyaTV, a resource browser on the App Store that calls itself a way to "discover Turkish dramas," climbed into the top 11 of Entertainment Top Free charts in Algeria, Yemen, and Tunisia within three months of launch. Behind it is not really one product, but a template, a set of borrowed developer accounts, and one huge search term: Arab viewers who want to watch Turkish dramas for free. Below is how it came about, how crowded this niche is, and what you can take from it.

### Two one-star reviews

On 2026 Sep 2, HiyaTV shipped version 2.0. The release note was a single Arabic line: "إضافة عملية الشراء" (added the purchase flow). But the app sits under a developer account named Alonso Urbano Dominguez, and the store page is listed in English only.

Five days later, the first text review appeared in the Saudi store, one star: "ارجوا ازاله خاصية الدفع" (please remove the payment feature). On Sep 24 came a second one, also one star:

"السيرفرات م تشتغل خسارة الدفع فيه" (the servers don't work, what a waste of money to pay for it).

"Servers" is how Arabic pirate-drama sites refer to streaming links. An app whose store description only says "browse the synopsis, build watchlists, take quizzes, data from TMDB," and never mentions playback, yet users paid and then went looking for "servers": these two reviews pretty much explain what it is. As of Nov 6, these were still the only two text reviews in the Saudi store (App Store Saudi, 11-06).

### What it is

A Flutter-built "Turkish drama catalog": titles, synopses, cast, watchlists, and quizzes, with data from the public movie database TMDB. When it launched on Aug 13, that was all it was, and it passed review. 3 weeks later a paywall was added: 19.99 riyals per week (about $5) or a one-time 149.99 riyals (about $35) (in-app purchase list, Saudi store).

From the outside, you can't tell whether playback actually works after payment. Reviews mention "servers," suggesting there's likely a stream-source selection screen behind the paywall; whether it fully works depends on the backend (inferred). The website hiytv.qeseh.es is an Arabic landing page, "رفيقك السينمائي" (your cinema companion), and its privacy policy is dated Mar 2026 27, five months before the app launched, which suggests the template was copied directly.

### Numbers: not big, but steady

- 281 cumulative ratings globally, 7 new in the last 35 days, with 5 to 6 new per day since late October. Very flat (app ratings across stores, 10-28 to 11-06).

- The most ratings come from Saudi Arabia (108), Algeria (72), Jordan (26), and Egypt (20).

- Best Entertainment Top Free ranks: Algeria #8, Yemen #9, Tunisia #11, Jordan #15, Saudi Arabia #47; it appears on 14 to 20 charts per day (11-06).

- **It has never reached the Top Grossing chart in any store.** Revenue is not public, and there's no coverage, X posts, or TikTok videos about it.

The Entertainment Top Free charts in Algeria, Yemen, and Tunisia have a low bar, where a few dozen downloads a day can get into the top 10 (estimate). So a #8 ranking shows that this kind of search demand is real, not that the product is big.

### Why people download it

A huge number of people in the Arab world watch Turkish dramas, but the most-used sources are pirate sites like 3isk and "قصة عشق" (Qissat Ishq, "love story"). They get shut down and change domains constantly, and there's a steady stream of "what to do when قصة عشق won't open" VPN tutorials. Legit platforms like Shahid, WATCH IT, and OSN+ charge a fee, and some require a VPN.

So iPhone users search the App Store for "مسلسلات تركية" (Turkish series) or "قصة عشق" and download whatever comes up. HiyaTV's English name is "Turkish Drama Series," and the store recommends it alongside a bunch of similar packages. Its name is also one letter off from HiTV, a well-known pirate drama app on Android; HiTV has no official iOS version (inferred), and whether the similar name is deliberate is unverified.

### One person, one set of accounts

HiyaTV isn't isolated. The qeseh.es domain also hosts three other apps:

| App | Account | Launched | Score |
|---|---|---|---|
| Qeseh - Turkish Drama Series | inmaculada urbano perez | 2026-05 | 135 |
| Qesatishk Turkish Drama Series | MIGUEL ANGEL TORRES MOSQUERA | 2026-09 | 15 |
| Dramora: Turkish Series | Yesenia Andrea GOMEZ VERA | 2026-07 | 0 |
| HiyaTV | Alonso Urbano Dominguez | 2026-08 | 281 |

Four Spanish-named accounts, two of them under the surname Urbano. Qesatishk's 2.0 update note is also in Arabic, "added purchase feature". Another package, Drama Cinema (369 ratings), shares one landing page with HiyaTV, and that domain belongs to an anime app under the Dramora account. Together, the operator controls at least 6 iOS packages spanning Turkish drama and anime (store pages and websites of each package, 11-06).

There's one on Google Play too: developer "UrbanoApp", app "قصة عشق - مسلسلات تركية". Listed in Jun 11, it reached about 192k installs by Oct 28, with 9 and two to three thousand new installs a day in October (third-party estimate). Installs stopped climbing after that, and the detail page now returns 404, meaning it has been removed.

This is the playbook: one codebase, a different name and account each time, spread across iOS and Android, and when one gets reported and pulled, the next one takes over. The update notes are in Arabic, and there are similarly named Moroccan accounts in the same category, so the operator is probably in the Maghreb and the Spanish accounts are borrowed or bought. That's an inference.

### Who it's competing with

Nearly all the competitors are the same thing. Browsing recent reviews of similar packages on the Saudi store, the picture is identical:

| App | Score | Best category rank | Recent reviews |
|---|---|---|---|
| قصة عشق - المسلسلات التركية(Mohamed Guerba) | 5,263 | 15 | "Bought the lifetime plan, nothing opens, don't subscribe" (10-03) |
| قرمزي – مسلسلات قصة عشق | 1,483 | 12 | "Subscribed for a month at 29 riyals, they charged me 54, and there isn't a single show" (10-18) |
| Egybest - ايجي بست | 1,288 | 5 | Trading on the name of Egyptian pirate site EgyBest |
| Drama Cinema | 369 | 7 | "The servers don't work" |
| HiyaTV | 281 | 6 | "Money wasted" |
| Quwet El Hob (IC Yapım, licensed) | 476 | 5 | Single-show app published by Turkish producer Oct 7 itself |

The same category has at least 15 of these "قصة عشق / Turkish drama" packages (App Store Middle East and North Africa storefronts, 11-06). The biggest one from Nov 3 still has a reviewer writing: "It's empty, it keeps showing ads until you give up and subscribe, and then it still has nothing."

There's one exception worth remembering: Quwet El Hob, a licensed app published by Turkish production company IC Yapım, got 476 ratings in a month and reached #5 in Entertainment in Tunisia and #6 in Algeria. Legitimate products can chart quickly in these storefronts too.

### Why it made the charts

- **The demand is real, but the free, licensed supply is empty.** Users search "watch Turkish dramas free", there is nothing like that on iOS, so they download whatever shows up.

- **Small-country category charts are cheap.** A few dozen downloads can put you in the top 10, and charting brings the next wave of downloads.

- **Two faces for review and launch.** Get approved as a reference tool first, then add a paywall. Reviews are full of complaints, yet people still pay.

- **Portfolio spreads the risk.** One package only needs to live a few months, and when it's pulled, the next one replaces it.

It ranks better than its sibling packages (#6 in category, Qeseh #44, Qesatishk #37). That's not because the features are better, since the code is the same. Most likely the package is newer and hasn't been pushed down by reports yet, and the name resembles HiTV. Inference.

### If it were you

**Verdict** : this category is already packed with the same hollow shells, relying on misleading paywalls and constant account rotation. The window could close any time once Apple tightens enforcement, and revenue has never been proven. Copying this is not worth it. What is worth taking: search demand for "Turkish drama" in Arabic is real, and small-country category charts let you test demand for almost nothing.

**Who it fits** : people who already have licensed content or can negotiate a license (Turkish producers, distributors, teams that make Arabic subtitles), or ASO players who want to cheaply test how many searches a topic keyword gets in a given Middle East or North Africa market.

**Who it doesn't fit** : indie devs hoping to make money with a "reference app shell + weekly subscription". You'd be ranking behind 15 identical packages, taking one-star reviews and refunds, your account could be banned at any time, and you still wouldn't get the content.

**How to do it:**

1. If you go licensed: follow IC Yapım's model, one app per hit show, or license several shows and build an Arabic-interface aggregator, with the store name using the Arabic show titles directly. These shells don't even have a proper Arabic interface, which is the easiest edge to win.

2. If you build a tool only: make a sincere Arabic "episode calendar / update reminders / plot and cast info" app, state clearly that it does not play video, monetize with ads or a small one-time purchase, and avoid weekly subscriptions.

3. Test demand: run the topic keywords with one package in low-barrier storefronts like Algeria, Yemen and Tunisia, and see whether it reaches the top 20 in its category within a few days before committing.

**How to acquire users** : App Store Arabic topic keywords (مسلسلات تركية, the show titles themselves); there are many Turkish drama clipping accounts on Arabic TikTok, and licensed content could be pitched to them for links.

**When to move** : the licensed route isn't urgent, it depends on whether the license deal can be closed. If you want to test demand, do it before the new season premieres in year-end drama season.

**What would show this read is wrong** : if HiyaTV and its sibling packages are still charting months from now, aren't removed, and start appearing in Top Grossing, that means Apple isn't policing this type of package and paid conversion is higher than the reviews suggest. Then this grey route is more profitable than judged here. Conversely, if even a licensed single-show app like Quwet El Hob drops off the charts once the hype fades, it means users in these storefronts only care about "free", and the licensed route is also hard.

| HiTV(هاي تي في) | Android | Years | The APK has tens of millions of downloads and is promoted on Arabic TikTok | Genuinely plays video. No official iOS version exists, and HiyaTV's name is nearly identical to it |

Where users come from

- **Verified** **App Store search and ASO (topic keywords)** : named Turkish Drama Series; the store's related recommendations are all lookalike packages; ranked #8 to #11 in the free Entertainment charts in dz, ye and tn

- Inferred **Trading on a pirate brand name (HiTV / قصة عشق)** : HiyaTV and HiTV differ by a single letter, and the sibling package is literally called Qeseh (قصة)

- **Verified** **Account rotation across iOS and Play** : 4 iOS packages under qeseh.es belong to 4 Spanish-named accounts; the animefun.cloud template is the same; the Play version by UrbanoApp was removed after reaching 192k installs

- Inferred **Paid ads, influencers, TikTok** : none found on TikTok, x-radar or the web; the ad library only tracks products on its list, so it doesn't cover this one

## Why HiyaTV: Turkish Drama Series (iOS id6799201313) made it to the charts

Research date 2026-11-06. Storefronts reviewed: all 115 storefronts were scanned first. It only charts in the Arabic-speaking storefronts of the Middle East and North Africa, so the close review covered dz, tn, ye, jo, sa and eg.

### One line

It is one of the grey **lookalike packages** in the Middle East and North Africa built around "Turkish drama / قصة عشق (Qissat Ishq, "love story")". One operator (indications point to an Arabic-speaking team, probably in the Maghreb) uses a single template and rotates it across several borrowed or purchased Spanish individual developer accounts. At review it is a "discovery app" that only browses TMDB data; after launch it sells a weekly subscription in the app (SAR 19.99/week, SAR 149.99 one-time purchase). Users find it by searching "Turkish drama", "قصة عشق" or "HiTV" in the App Store and download it expecting free shows. It got going through **store search traffic from riding existing demand and existing names, plus account rotation** , not through the product.

### 1. What it is

- Developer Alonso Urbano Dominguez; this account has only this one app. Released 2026-08-13, listed in English only, built with Flutter (the privacy policy says Hive is used for local storage and Google Fonts' Arabic font Cairo). Apple lookup (2026-11-06).

- The description says "discover Turkish dramas, read summaries, build watchlists, take quizzes, data from TMDB", and **does not say it plays video** . The bundle id is `com.alonso.hiyatv.krmzi`, which carries traces of the Krmzi ("قرمزي / red") template.

- Version history (sa store page): 1.0 (08-13) → 2.0 (09-02), with the update note in Arabic "إضافة عملية الشراء" (added purchase flow) → 3.0 (09-03), "fix bug". The account uses a Spanish name, but the update notes are in Arabic.

- In-app purchases (sa store page): weekly SAR 19.99, lifetime SAR 149.99, roughly $4.99 / $34.99.

- The official site hiytv.qeseh.es is just one Arabic landing page, "رفيقك السينمائي" (Your cinema companion). Its privacy policy is dated "آخر تحديث: 27 مارس 2026" (Last updated: 2026-03-27), which is 5 months before the app launched, so it was copied straight from a template. The root domain qeseh.es is Hostinger's default empty page.

- **What users actually see** : the only two reviews in the sa storefront say "السيرفرات م تشتغل خسارة الدفع فيه" (the servers don't work, money wasted, 09-24) and "ارجوا ازاله خاصية الدفع" (please remove the payment feature, 09-07). "Servers" is the Arabic pirate-site term for streaming source lines. So behind the paywall there is probably a "play / choose server" screen, and whether it actually plays depends entirely on whether the backend is live. This is an inference, not verified by installing the app.

### 2. Data: how many people see it

- Total ratings 281 (as of 06); 7 new in the last 35 days, from 10-28 to 11-06 adding 0 to 7 per day, mostly steady at 5 to 6 per day. Number of charting countries per day: 14 to 20. Sources: the data card and the appstore library.

- Ratings by storefront: sa 108, dz 72, jo 26, eg 20, tn 14, ye 10 (appstore library app_profile, 11-06).

- Best category (Entertainment free chart) ranks: #8 in dz, #9 in ye, #11 in tn, #15 in jo, #27 in om, #28 in lb, #31 in eg, #47 in sa. Overall free chart: #84 in dz, #152 in tn, #154 in ye. Best category rank on record in the library is #6, across 26 storefronts (appstore library app_day, from 10-28).

- **It never reached the Top Grossing chart in any storefront.** The Entertainment charts in Algeria, Yemen and Tunisia have a low bar, and a few dozen downloads a day can get you into the top 10. So "#8" mainly shows that search demand in this category is real, not that the product is big.

- Buzz: x-radar finds 90 posts in the past days for "HiyaTV" and "qeseh" each, 0 posts apiece. A TikTok search for "HiyaTV" only returns the US martial-arts channel Hi-YAH!, which is unrelated. Web search only turns up store pages. **No media coverage, and no one has publicly disclosed revenue.**

### 3. Competitors: this niche is crowded, and it's all the same playbook

The tables below come from the appstore database's app_profile (11-06, rating counts summed across stores, best category rank) and the Apple lookup.

| App | Developer | Launched | Score | Best category rank | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| قصة عشق - المسلسلات التركية | Mohamed Guerba | 2025-11-19 | 5263 | 15 | The biggest in the category; recent reviews are all complaining "subscribed and there's nothing there" |
| قصه عشق دراما | Hassan Medov | 2025-09-16 | 2796 | 44 | |
| قرمزي – مسلسلات قصة عشق | BROOKS GEORGE | 2026-04-07 | 1483 | 12 | Saudi review: "Paid 29 riyals for a month, got charged 54, and there's not a single show" |
| Egybest - ايجي بست | SMITH GEORGE | 2026-04-28 | 1288 | 5 | Borrows the name of the Egyptian pirate site EgyBest; Algerian review: "Only the covers load, I can't watch anything" |
| Quwet El Hob | IC Yapım (the Turkish licensed studio) | 2026-10-07 | 476 | 5 | **Licensed** : the rights holder's own official app, 17+ |
| قصة عشق - مسلسلات تركية | Najat Ousstousse | 2025-10-14 | 378 | 20 | |
| Drama Cinema - مسلسلات تركيه | mohammed ez zahnouni | 2026-03-27 | 369 | 7 | Website cima.animefun.cloud, **same landing-page template as HiyaTV** ; reviews complain "the servers don't work" |
| قصه عشق مسلسلات تركيه | John Wilson | 2026-07-13 | 346 | 45 | |
| قصة عشق : الدراما التركية | Najam Aftab | 2026-06-23 | 296 | 29 | |
| **HiyaTV** | Alonso Urbano Dominguez | 2026-08-13 | 281 | 6 | |
| قصة عشق تطبيق اصلي | Soulaiman Karroum | 2026-02-03 | 280 | 119 | |
| Qeseh - Turkish Drama Series | inmaculada urbano perez | 2026-05-22 | 135 | 44 | **Same matrix** , website qeseh.es/qeseh |
| TurkMood Player | Mahmoud Muhammed | 2026-05-14 | 101 | 15 | |
| Qesatishk Turkish Drama Series | MIGUEL ANGEL TORRES MOSQUERA | 2026-09-21 | 15 | 37 | **Same matrix** , website qesati.qeseh.es; the 2.0 version also says "إضافة خاصية الشراء" (added the purchase feature) |
| Dramora: Turkish Series | Yesenia Andrea GOMEZ VERA | 2026-07-25 | 0 | — | **Same matrix** , website turcas.qeseh.es |

Other competitors:

- Licensed platforms: MBC Shahid, WATCH IT, OSN+, and Netflix have long sat in the top 15 of entertainment charts in these storefronts. Short-drama apps (DramaWave, ReelShort, NetShort, DramaBox, etc.) hold the top 5.

- Android and web: pirate sites 3isk / qeseh.net / esheeq keep switching domains to dodge blocks, and there's a pile of VPN tutorials online titled "قصة عشق 打不开怎么办" (what to do when Qesset Eshk won't open) (planetvpnarab.com, itoparab.com). On Android there's HiTV ("هاي تي في", a Turkish and Korean drama APK that people push on Arabic-language TikTok). HiTV doesn't show up on any iOS storefront chart (the appstore library returns no results by name).

### 4. The same operator's matrix (this is the key finding)

- **Shared domain qeseh.es** : HiyaTV (hiytv.), Qeseh (/qeseh), Qesatishk (qesati.), Dramora (turcas.). They sit under 4 different accounts registered to Spanish names, and both account names include "Urbano".

- **Shared landing-page template** : cima.animefun.cloud under animefun.cloud (Drama Cinema, account mohammed ez zahnouni) and the subsites under qeseh.es are the same page, "رفيقك السينمائي" (your cinema companion). animefun.cloud/animesr is also the website for Anime Cloud SR, under the account Yesenia Andrea GOMEZ VERA, which is the same account as Dramora. So this operator has at least 6 iOS packages, spanning both Turkish drama and anime.

- **Also on Google Play** : developer "UrbanoApp" published `com.qeseh.eshek.qrmzi` "قصة عشق - مسلسلات تركية", listed 2026-06-11, reaching **192,065 installs** cumulative by 10-28. From 9 to October it averaged roughly 2 to 3 thousand installs a day (data from the googleplay library's app_day_ext, AppstoreSpy estimates). After 10-28 the install count stopped growing, and the Play listing now 404, **it has been taken down** . This is the "burn one account, switch to another" approach. A recall mentioned that Krmzi was pulled in some storefronts; I did not verify this separately.

- The update notes are in Arabic. The same category also has accounts with Moroccan-sounding names like Najat Ousstousse and Ayoub Oustousse (Krmzi plus). From this I infer the operator is in the Maghreb and the Spanish-named accounts are borrowed or bought. Not verified.

### 5. Growth tactics

1. **App Store search and ASO (confirmed)** : the name is simply "Turkish Drama Series", and the store links it to packages that ride pirate-site names like Qeseh, Drama Cinema, قرمزي, and Egybest (Saudi store page "You Might Also Like"). Arabic users searching "مسلسلات تركية" or "قصة عشق" can find it.

2. **Borrowed brand name (inferred)** : "HiyaTV" differs from HiTV / هاي تي في, a well-known pirate drama app on Android, by a single letter, and HiTV has no official iOS version. Other packages in the same matrix ride the "قصة عشق" pirate-site brand directly.

3. **Account-matrix rotation (confirmed)** : one template spans multiple accounts and multiple packages, spread across iOS and Play, so if one gets banned the next takes over. The Play version being pulled after reaching 190k installs is the proof.

4. **Paid ads, creators, TikTok, X** : no evidence found. Neither TikTok nor x-radar returns it. Ad libraries only track listed products, and this app isn't on the list, so a miss doesn't mean no spend.

5. **Fake reviews (suspected)** : the per-storefront averages are 4.1 to 4.6, yet the only two written reviews visible are 1-star complaints. The in-app rating prompt may be steering happy users to rate, but the exact method is unverified.

### 6. Why it took off

- **The demand is real, and there's no legitimate free supply** . Demand for Turkish drama across the Arab world has been large for years, and viewers are used to watching for free on pirate sites like 3isk, which get blocked often and keep changing domains. There's no official free "قصة عشق" on iOS, so users search these terms on the App Store and download whatever comes up.

- **Low-bar small-country category charts are easy to crack** . The entertainment free charts in dz, ye, and tn sit in the top 10 on a few dozen downloads a day, and chart placement brings more exposure.

- **Two faces: review vs. live** . During review it's a TMDB-based browsing app with a quiz, which passes. After launch it collects money through a paywall and may remotely load playback "servers" (inferred). Reviews are full of "paid and can't see anything," yet people still pay.

- **The matrix spreads the risk** . A single package only needs to live a few months to pay back, and if it's pulled, you open a new account and start over.

### 7. Differentiation

On features it has **no differentiation** . It shares code and a landing page with Qeseh, Qesatishk, Dramora, and Drama Cinema from the same operator, and it's nearly identical to the other "قصة عشق" packages. What likely lets it beat its sibling packages a little (best category rank #6, where Qeseh is #44 and Qesatishk is #37) is that this package hasn't been pushed down by reports yet, is still new, and has a name that sits close to HiTV. So "differentiation" isn't why it performs. Distribution and the name are.

### 8. What to borrow

- The positive takeaway: **Arabic-speaking users searching for "Turkish drama" is a real need, and iOS lacks a proper product for it** . The Turkish studio IC Yapım put out Quwet El Hob itself, and within three weeks it hit #5 in tn and #6 in dz, showing that a licensed single-show app can chart fast in these storefronts. Worth building: a licensed Turkish drama aggregator or an Arabic-subtitled product, or a compliant watch-tracking and watchlist tool, but it needs an Arabic interface (these knockoff packages don't even have one, listing only English).

- On tactics: small-country category charts have a low bar, so ASO on genre keywords plus several packages gets you cheap demand tests. But this approach relies on misleading payments, carries high refund and takedown risk, and I don't recommend copying it.

### 9. Uncertain

- Whether playback actually works after paying and where the content comes from. No install test was done; the only evidence is the mention of "servers" in reviews.

- Revenue: it hasn't appeared on any grossing chart. Reviews confirm some people paid, but the amounts are unknown.

- The true owners of the Spanish-named accounts and which country the operator is in are both inferences.

- Whether Meta or TikTok ads were run: no evidence found.
