74 ratings charted #25 in Saudi Top Grossing: Mowzon invented nothing, it copied a playbook
What it is An Arabic photo-calorie app that recognizes local dishes like kabsa, and also logs gym sets and weights, backed by an admin dashboard for personal trainers.
Why it took off In early October the official account posted a video that got 1.7M views; from late October a batch of food-diet creators with under 20k followers each began promoting it, each with an annual subscription discount code. Saudi Health's Top Grossing chart also has a low bar, so a few dozen ratings can chart.
CHow you could follow Don't copy it in Saudi Arabia: there are already five-plus local teams there, and the leader is 60 times its size. Instead, take the playbook of local dish library + photo calorie counting + small creators paid by code, and move it to a smaller-language country without a local AI calorie-counting leader.

Mowzon (موزون) is an Arabic AI calorie-counting app from a Saudi team. Snap a photo of kabsa and it estimates the calories; it also logs gym sets and weights. It launched only in late August and has just 80 ratings, yet in Nov 6 it reached #25 in Saudi Arabia's Health & Fitness Top Grossing. It didn't win on the product; it won through a batch of TikTok food creators with a few thousand followers each, each holding an annual subscription discount code. Kalee, a competitor in the same niche, proved this playbook first. Below: how it grew, how crowded the niche is, and which parts are worth copying.
One video, "calories accumulate", 1.7M views
On Oct 4, Mowzon's official TikTok account @mowzonapp posted a video with a single Saudi-dialect line: "ترا السعرات تتجمع 👀" ("calories really do add up"). It got 1.7M views and 39k likes (TikTok, 11-06). The account has over 6,000 followers; most of its other videos get under 20–30k views. For example, the Nov 2 video "who says dieting has to be suffering?" got under 20k.
What steadily brought people in was another batch of videos starting in late October. Searching "تطبيق موزون" (the Mowzon app) from Oct 21 onward turns up a string of posts tagged @موزون, each creator with a code:
- khloo.dy, under 2,000 followers, code Khl4, 15% off. She posts a "calorie-counted" home-cooking recipe almost daily. In Nov 4 a Russian potato salad, with the recipe in grams: 250 g potatoes, 50 g yogurt, 15 g light mayonnaise;
- itsloumy_, over 1,000 followers, code Loumy15; a 21 video with 48k views in Oct;
- diet.walaa, a nutritionist with 16k followers, code "ولاء", 10% off annual plans;
- There are also codes from YARA (calling herself كوتش يارا, "coach Yara"), F15, FATI10, and RA356.
Most of these accounts have under 20k followers. Their videos cover their own recipes and daily dieting; the app appears only at the end, and discounts apply only to annual plans. The timing fits: in Oct 30 it climbed to #18 in Saudi Health's free chart; from Nov 3 it moved up the Top Grossing chart, reaching #45, #37, #32, and by Nov 6 #25 (App Store, Saudi store). The same week the Android version had 1,184 cumulative installs, of which 544 came in the last 7 days (Google Play, 11-06).
What it is, and how it charges
The first line of the store page reads "Log Meals and Track your workouts in Seconds in the same app": meals and training logged in one app. Food logging covers photos, voice ("two eggs and a slice of toast"), barcode scanning, and a food database with Gulf local dishes like kabsa, mandi (مندي), and jareesh (جريش). Training logging covers sets, reps, and weights, with rest timers shown on the lock screen and Dynamic Island, plus 1RM tracking and personal records.
The app is free to download; Mowzon Pro subscription unlocks unlimited photo and voice logging and different macro targets for training and rest days. The only 1-star review in Nov 3 says it all: "Everything requires a subscription, yet the ads say no subscription needed". The ads it refers to are probably those creator videos.
It has another side outsiders often miss: the homepage of mowzon.com isn't the app at all, but an admin dashboard for personal trainers. The free plan covers 3 clients, Pro is 99 SAR/month for 10 clients, and the studio plan is 599 SAR/month. Clients pay trainers through Tap, using mada, Apple Pay, STC Pay, or Tabby, and the platform takes 3.5% plus 1.5 SAR. Trainers invite clients into the Mowzon app, which adds users. The design is clever, but how much volume it brings is not visible (unverified).
Don't be fooled by "Top Grossing #25"
| 10-28 | 11-06 | |
|---|---|---|
| Saudi store ratings | 53 | 74 |
| All-store ratings | 54 | 80 |
| Android cumulative installs | — | 1,184 (last 7 days, +544) |
(Ratings from the App Store, 10-28 to 11-06, adding 1 to 5 per day; installs from Google Play, 11-06)
74 ratings reaching #25 shows how low the Top Grossing bar is in Saudi's category: on the same day, #1 Kalee had 4,894 ratings, #2 Mezan had 6,676, Cal AI was #26 and Lose It! was #29. Outside Saudi Arabia, it has only 0 to 2 ratings in Oman, Bahrain, and Qatar, so it's essentially a one-country business. Revenue isn't public; based on the rating volume, paying users are likely in the hundreds (estimate).
The reviews need discounting too. Of 10 reviews, 9 are 5-star, mostly clustered in the days after the late-August launch. Two reviews have identical titles and body text ("خاصية التصوير رائعة", "the photo feature is great"), appearing on Sep 27 and Oct 30. Whether it's the same person editing a review or fake reviews is unknown.
Who's competing for it: at least five local teams
| Product | Launched | Saudi Arabia, 11-06 | Compared with Mowzon |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kalee كالي | 2025-08 | 4,894 ratings, Health top-grossing #1 | Calorie counting only, roughly 60 times Mowzon's size; it pioneered the discount-code playbook and hired 427k-follower creators like azyzeer |
| Mezan ميزان | 2025-01 | 6,676 ratings, #2 | An earlier Arabic photo calorie counter; daily new ratings have dropped to single digits |
| مران Miran | 2018 | 7,205 ratings, #18 | Established calorie counter plus training, not AI-born |
| Kilo | 2026-04 | 142 ratings, #12 | A Saudi solo developer, calorie counting only |
| Sarha سعرها | 2025-12 | 228 ratings, #27 | Calorie counting only |
| Grams — Train & Eat | 2026-09 | 60 ratings, 7 days +55 | Nearly identical selling points (training plus diet, recognizes whole kabsa dishes), and it has grown faster than Mowzon in the past week |
| Hadeed: Calorie Counter & Gym | 2026-05 | 23 ratings, free chart #165 | Nearly the same name, launched 3 months before Mowzon and never took off |
(App Store, Saudi store, 11-06)
In the Saudi store, there are more than 60 AI calorie-counting apps with "calorie" in the name, the ones released after 2024 year. Hadeed and Grams are also doing the "calorie counting plus fitness" combo, and in the creator videos almost no one mentions training, so Mowzon's growth has little to do with that differentiation. The difference between Hadeed and Mowzon is whether they paid creators.
What you can learn
First, in small-language markets with high willingness to pay, "local language + local dishes + photo recognition" is enough to build an app that earns annual fees. You don't need to beat Cal AI at its own game, just be more local than it. The row of local calorie-counting apps in the top 30 of Saudi Health's Top Grossing chart is the proof.
Two: distribution. Recruit a batch of recipe and fat-loss creators with 1,000 to 20K followers, one code each, discounting only the annual plan. The creators film their own food, and the app is just the tool at the end. Each code pays back on its own and is easier to test than one big account, and cheaper too.
Third, small countries have low thresholds for category Top Grossing charts. A few hundred paying users can get you charted. "Top Grossing #X" works as social proof for creators and partners, but when you're looking at others, don't read it as revenue scale.
If it were you
C. Going after Saudi Arabia with Mowzon doesn't pencil out: the same features are already built by at least five local teams, the leader Kalee is 60x the size, and its playbook is public for anyone to see. What's worth taking away is the combo of "localized calorie counting + discount codes from small creators." Take it to a country nobody has done this in yet.
- Who it's for: a builder whose native language is a smaller language with decent willingness to pay but no local AI calorie-counting leader yet (first check the top 30 of that country's App Store Health & Fitness Top Grossing chart for local teams), who can build a local home-food calorie database themselves, and who can sign dozens of small creators.
- Who it's not for: anyone who wants to build another calorie counter for Saudi Arabia, the Gulf, or the English market; people who only want to write code and won't negotiate with creators one by one; anyone counting on "calorie counting plus fitness" as a winning feature combo, which Hadeed has already shown isn't enough.
- How to build it: make photo-based calorie counting the core, and first get the 200 most-eaten dishes in your country right, recognized as whole dishes. Free to use with a limit on photo scans, with an annual subscription as the main revenue. Workout logging and a trainer backend can come later.
- How to get users: on TikTok and the main local platforms, find 30 to 50 creators with a few thousand to 20k followers in recipes and weight loss. Give each one a code that discounts only the annual subscription, pay on a revenue-share basis per code, run it for a month, and only add more people once you see which codes pay back. Post from the official account yourself too: Mowzon's first breakout was the official account's video with 1.7M views.
- When to move: the New Year weight-loss season is the best time for calorie-counting apps. Launch before the end of December and start onboarding creators in early January. After February, the year's demand peak is over.
- Signs you've misread it: (1) if two or three local AI calorie counters are already in the top 30 of your chosen country's health Top Grossing chart, don't enter; (2) if the first 20 codes together don't bring in a few dozen annual subscriptions in a month, that country isn't paying, or you picked the wrong creators; (3) look back at Saudi Arabia: if Mowzon's ranking drops back beyond 50 and its ratings stop growing after it stops paying creators, then this playbook only sustained a short burst, not a business.

Calorie Counter & Gym: Mowzon (موزون, iOS 6800168992) research report
One-liner: Mowzon is an Arabic AI calorie-tracking and fitness-logging app built by a Saudi team (developer MKEEN ALTAQNIYAH; Android listing under Mkeen). It launched on 2026-08-27 and hit #25 on the Saudi Health & Fitness Top Grossing chart. The win isn't a unique product; it's copying the playbook that already works in Saudi Arabia: lots of micro-influencers posting recipes and fat-loss videos on TikTok with their own discount codes (clustered starting late October), plus one official account post with 10-04 views and 1.7M plays. On the product side, it merges "MyFitnessPal + Hevy" into one app and also has a SaaS backend for personal trainers. Its absolute scale is small (80 ratings across all stores, 1,184 Android installs), and the Saudi health category chart has a low bar, so #25 doesn't mean big revenue.
1. How to read the data card (correcting first)
- Tiny volume: the Saudi store 10-28 has 53 ratings, 11-06 has 74, 9 days +21, 1–5 per day (appstore.app_day). Across all stores, 80 ratings in total (cards). The US, Kuwait and other stores show 0 or single-digit rating counts, so it's basically just the Saudi market.
- Chart: Saudi Health & Fitness Top Free peaked at 10-30 18, then fell back to 30–48; from 11-03 it moved up the Top Grossing chart: #45 → #37 → #32 → #25 (11-06). In other words, people started paying for subscriptions in early November (appstore.app_day, sa).
- The Top Grossing bar is low: the same day, the Saudi Health Top Grossing #1 was Kalee (4,894 ratings, +205 in the last 7 days), #2 was Mezan (6,676), #3 was MyFitnessPal. Cal AI was #26, Lose It! was #29. Mowzon ranked #25 with only 74 ratings, which shows this Saudi category's Top Grossing chart is easy to reach (appstore.app_profile, 2026-11-06).
- Android: com.mowzon.client, listed on 2026-09-22, 1,184 installs, +544 in the last 7 days (googleplay.app_profile). Android nearly doubled over the past week, in the same time window as the iOS rating acceleration.
- Reviews: of 10 reviews, 9 are 5-star, clustered between 8-27 and 9-06 during early launch (typical friends and early users). Two reviews, 9-27 and 10-30, have the exact same title and body ("جميل / خاصية التصوير رائعة…"). That could be one person editing their review that got picked up twice, or it could be fake, unverified. The only 1-star review (11-03) complains "the ad says no subscription needed, but everything requires one," which matches the creator campaign discussed below (appstore.review).
2. Competitors: the Arabic AI calorie counter space in Saudi Arabia is already crowded
In this category, the Saudi store has 60 or more AI calorie counter apps (appstore.app/app_name with calor/سعر in the name, listed since 2024), and some of them are from local teams:
| Product | Where | Launched | Scale (Saudi Arabia, 2026-11-06) | How Mowzon differs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kalee كالي(HARAKAT ALTIQNIAH COMPANY,kalee.app) | iOS/Android | 2025-08-30 | 4,894 ratings, +205 in the last 7 days, Health chart #1, overall Top Grossing around #99 | Category leader, calorie counting only. The creator discount code playbook was proven by it first (azyzeer with 427k followers, zlzaid with 73k followers, etc. all carry Kalee's code). Its scale is roughly 60x Mowzon's |
| Mezan ميزان(AI World,mezan.io) | iOS/Android | 2025-01-08 | 6,676 ratings, Health chart #2 | Earlier photo calorie counter, calorie counting only. New ratings per day have dropped to 2–8 |
| مران Miran | iOS | 2018-11-02 | 7,205 ratings, Top Grossing #18 | Long-running Arabic calorie counter + training, not AI-native |
| Kilo(Ziad AlDohaim) | iOS | 2026-04-06 | 142 ratings, Top Grossing #12 | Saudi indie dev, calorie counting only, with twice Mowzon's ratings |
| Sarha سعرها | iOS | 2025-12-22 | 228 ratings, Top Grossing #27 | Calorie counting only |
| Hadeed: Calorie Counter & Gym(Fouad Dakhel) | iOS | 2026-05-30 | 23 ratings, free chart #165 | Nearly identical positioning and naming (calorie counter + gym), 3 months before Mowzon, but it didn't take off |
| Grams — Train & Eat(Abdullah Alfouzan,grams.fit) | iOS | 2026-09-17 | 60 ratings, +55 in the last 7 days, Top Free #36 | Nearly the same selling points: training + diet, "kabsa and shawarma recognized as whole dishes." Gained faster than Mowzon in the last 7 days |
| Cal AI / MyFitnessPal / Lose It! / Hevy | iOS worldwide | 2024 / 2009 / 2008 / 2019 | Saudi Top Grossing #26 / 3 / 29 / 15 | Global big players, weak on Arabic and local dishes. Mowzon's reviews include someone saying "it's MyFitnessPal + Hevy" |
| Coaching SaaS: Trainerize, TrueCoach, Everfit, etc.; local Coachee كوتشي | Web + app | Years / 2026-05 | Global coaching platforms; Coachee has 0 ratings | Global platforms don't accept mada/STC Pay and have no local food library. Mowzon's coach side emphasizes both (rivals' payment support not checked one by one) |
Verdict: there is no "no competitor" here. The same features (Arabic, photo/voice/barcode, local dishes) are built by at least 5 local teams, and Kalee is already the leader.
3. Growth tactics: where users come from
- TikTok small creators + personal discount codes (confirmed, the main channel). Searching TikHub for "موزون سعرات / تطبيق موزون" turns up a batch of videos tagged @موزون | Mowzon starting 10-21, each with its own code:
- khloo.dy (1,758 followers), code Khl4, 15% off, posting "healthy recipes with calories calculated" almost daily from 10-25, one video with 107k views 10-29;
- itsloumy_ (1,063 followers), code Loumy15,10-21, one video with 48k views, another with 13.5k 11-04;
- diet.walaa (16k followers), code "ولاء", 9% off the annual subscription, one video with 26k views 10-31;
- vwmnq3 with code VWM (7,801 views), qxiinl.1 "كوتش يارا" with code YARA, _iflamingo with code F15, fatimavaliente__ with code FATI10, ra3.56 (27k followers) with code RA356, 4vex1 "Bibi", c.abeernew (47k followers), .maha_00 (17k followers), and others. Nearly all of these accounts have under 20k followers. This is a typical revenue-share / per-code creator matrix: the content is recipes and daily weight-loss life, with the app shown only at the end. How the money comes back: discount codes apply only to annual subscriptions, users pay for Mowzon Pro, and creators get a cut per code. The timing of the campaign (from 10-21), the free chart peak (10-30, #18), the Top Grossing climb (from 11-03), and Android's +544 in 7 days all line up.
- Official account @mowzonapp makes its own content (confirmed): 6,446 followers, 42 posts, 89.6k total likes. One video, "ترا السعرات تتجمع" (calories add up), hit 10-04 1.7M views and 39k likes, which accounts for most of the account's likes. Most other videos get 2 thousand to 26k views (TikHub, 2026-11-06).
- The whole category runs the same playbook (confirmed): from 2026-07, Kalee had small creators like azyzeer (427k followers), zlzaid (73k), moh_blueberries (68k) and wnbfpro3z push its codes (AZ, ZD10, MBU, MUH). Mezan also has an official @mezanapp account. Mowzon is a late follower, using smaller and cheaper creators.
- Coach-side acquisition (only the design is visible, not the results): the mowzon.com homepage is now entirely a coach SaaS (free plan with 3 clients; Pro at 99 SAR/month with 10 clients and 1,500 AI credits; 599 SAR/month for studios; client payments go through Tap via mada / Apple Pay / STC Pay / Tabby, with a 3.5% + 1.5 SAR cut). Coaches invite clients into the Mowzon App, so the design makes this a referral entry point. But there are only 80 ratings, so how much traffic coaches bring is not visible, unverified. One creator calls themselves "كوتش يارا" (coach), which may be cross-over between the two sides.
- SEO (just starting): the sitemap includes Arabic food pages (كبسة, مندي, جريش, هريس, سليق, مطبق, شاورما…) and calorie calculator and BMI tool pages, targeting long-tail search. Searching "موزون تطبيق سعرات" in search engines already returns its App Store page and TikTok topic page (Jina search, 2026-11-06).
- Not found: media coverage, X discussion (x-radar searched Mowzon / موزون over the past 60 days, 0 posts), Product Hunt, and paid acquisition (the Meta/TikTok ad libraries only track listed products, so not finding ads doesn't mean there are none).
4. Why it can break out
- Demand is already proven, and it's local demand: the Saudi health Top Grossing chart's top 30 includes local Arabic calorie-counting apps like Kalee, Mezan, Kilo, Sarha and Miran, so users are already used to paying annual fees for "Arabic + local dishes + photo logging." Mowzon doesn't have to educate the market.
- Copying a proven distribution playbook: small creators with codes → annual subscription discounts → commission. Kalee has already shown this can reach #1 in its category in Saudi Arabia. Mowzon rolled it out in late October and entered the Top Grossing chart from 11-03.
- One viral video: the official account's 10-04 video got 1.7M views, its first big moment of visibility.
- Low bar: #25 on the Saudi health Top Grossing chart requires very few paying users, so simply charting gets amplified.
- Product reviews: reviews repeatedly praise it as "simple and smooth" (early seed reviews make up most of them, so discount them).
5. Differentiation
- Compared with Kalee / Mezan / Kilo: calorie counting and strength training logging combined in one app (sets, reps, weights, rest timer on the lock screen and Dynamic Island, voice logging for sets, 1RM/PR), with different macro targets for training and rest days; plus a coach SaaS (coaches use the web, clients use the app, local payments).
- Compared with global big players: Arabic language, Gulf local dishes (كبسة, جريش, مطبق), and mada/STC Pay.
- Are these the reasons it took off? Mostly not. Users came in through small TikTok creators and discount codes, and the creator videos are all about "snap a photo to count calories," barely mentioning training or coaches. The "calorie counting + fitness" combo is also being done by Hadeed (May) and Grams (September), and Grams is growing faster than it is now. The coach SaaS is its most distinctive long-term angle (moving from B2C calorie counting toward B2B2C), but there's no visible traffic from it yet.
6. How many people have seen it
- Revenue isn't public and isn't listed on TrustMRR or similar; no media coverage; 0 discussions on X.
- Exposure only within small fat-loss and recipe circles on Saudi TikTok (dozens of videos, with the top single video at 1.7M views).
- Verdict: few people know about it yet, but the category it sits in (Saudi Arabic AI calorie counting) is already crowded, and the playbook is publicly visible (creator discount codes).
7. Takeaways
- In smaller-language markets with high willingness to pay and shallower competition (Saudi Arabia, the Gulf), "local language + local dish library + AI photo logging" is enough to build a subscription app that can reach the Top Grossing chart. You don't need to beat Cal AI on quality, only be more "local."
- On distribution: recruit lots of recipe and fat-loss creators with 1 thousand to 20k followers, give each one a code, and discount only annual subscriptions. Cost is low, ROI can be tracked per code, and the content is the creator's own recipes, with the app appearing only as the closing tool.
- Top Grossing charts in small countries have a very low bar; a few dozen paying users can get you on the chart, which can be used as trust credentials for creators and coaches.
- A two-sided "consumer app + coach SaaS" structure lets coaches bring their own clients in, which could lower acquisition costs (still to be verified).
8. Uncertain
- The rating curve between September and 10-27 isn't in the library (the library starts at 10-28), so how many downloads the 10-04 viral video brought can't be seen.
- Whether creators are paid by commission, flat fee or coach reciprocity is unverified; whether it also ran Snapchat ads (Saudi's main platform) or Instagram ads is not found.
- How many paying coaches there are and how many app users they bring is unknown.
- Whether the repeated reviews are fake is unverified.
- Background of developer MKEEN ALTAQNIYAH (مكين التقنية) and team size: not found.
