# "Opening it shows you the same ad three times": a global live-camera app that earns from the money Meta is spending on Muse

**What it is** A free "global live cameras + 3D Earth + street view + location-watermark camera" app, made by a Hong Kong company that batch-produces apps, earning from interstitial ads.

**Why it took off** People on TikTok had already hyped the "secretly watch the world in real time" angle; it took that same hook to Instagram to buy US users. Its volume ramped in mid-September, just as Meta was pushing Muse hard with paid acquisition, which made US interstitials valuable (inference).

**C** **How you could follow** Don't copy it: there are already a dozen clones and Muse's window is closing. What's worth learning is the playbook: the curiosity TikTok already educated users on + porting an old Android ad category to iOS + buying US traffic on Meta + cashing in on interstitials when big advertisers spend heavily. And if you spend less on ads, reviews and rankings can beat the competition.

C grade: the arbitrage logic is clear and it is making money, but this category has seen a dozen-plus clones on iOS since July, the clone CamRoam is already ahead, Locaris itself dropped from #20 to #163, and the Muse ad spend propping it up is one-off. Worth learning the tactics; chasing this specific category isn't worth it. Few people know about it yet

Locaris says it lets you watch live cameras around the world, 3D Earth, and street view on your phone. The US store has 1,570 ratings averaging 3.3, and the reviews are mostly complaints about ads. It launched in Aug 19, started ramping in mid-September, and in late October hit #20 on the US Travel free chart. The product itself isn't the interesting part. What's interesting is how it earns back its cost: it buys US users on Instagram, and as soon as users open the app, interstitials fire back to back, with the most common ad being Muse, the new AI app Meta was pushing hard at the time.

### Oct 9 one-star review

In Oct 9, a US user named Funjap left a one-star review: "I don't usually write reviews. I saw its ad on Instagram, downloaded it, opened it, and the same ad played three times in a row. Finally got to a camera feed, and there was another ad."

Same day, someone wrote "10 ads in two minutes." In Oct 8 someone said "Two Muse ads back to back, the second one can't be closed"; in Oct 28 another said they watched 6 ads before reaching any real content, "three or four of them Meta's Muse." One review is even titled "Rides piggy back on muse," meaning it's riding on Muse.

These reviews lay out the whole chain: users come in from Instagram ads, get hit with interstitials at the door, and the interstitials are selling Muse.

### What it is

A free Travel app. The store description reads "Live cameras, maps, city lookouts, and travel tools come together in one dark, immersive experience," which means live cameras, maps, city lookouts, and travel tools in a dark-themed interface. The feature list has seven items: tapping into cameras on a 3D Earth with live feeds, landmark panoramas, "AI street view," a camera that stamps location and weather onto photos, traffic, a compass, and a world clock.

The so-called "AI street view" is really just Apple Maps' built-in Look Around. These features are common in this category; it just bundles them all together.

The developer is BIG BRIDGE NETWORK TECHNOLOGY LIMITED, registered in Hong Kong in 2022 August (Hong Kong company registry). The same developer account also has a blood pressure logger, AI translation, file management, wallpapers, and QR code scanning, all unrelated to each other (iTunes lookup, 11-06). It's a company that batch-produces apps, and Locaris is just one product on its assembly line.

### How much it has grown, and where it stands now

| Date | US Travel free chart | Daily new ratings worldwide |
|---|---|---|
| 10-26 | Rank 20 (Sensor Tower) | — |
| 10-28 | #47 | — |
| 10-30 | — | 46 |
| 11-01 | #109 | 45 |
| 11-06 | #163 | 23 |

App Store US store and country totals, 10-28 to 11-06.

Ratings come almost entirely from the US: 1,570 in the US, 99 in India, 37 in the UK, and most other countries only single digits (iTunes lookup, 11-06). It also made the top 100 on the Travel free charts in some forty small countries such as Venezuela, Algeria, and Thailand, but those charts have low bars: when it ranked #42 in Venezuela it had only 10 ratings in total, so this isn't a true global rollout.

US reviews only started arriving in batches every day after Sep 18; before that there was just one from Aug 26. So it sat for a month after launch, began heavy buying in mid-September, peaked in late October, and is now declining.

### Where users come from

**Instagram paid acquisition** , as the reviews make clear. The original creatives aren't available, but the reviews suggest what they showed: one person wrote "It doesn't let you find people. It says enter a phone number, but there's nowhere to enter one" (10-27); a Mexican user wrote "It won't let me enter my daughter's phone number, it's all a scam" (9-24); others said "enter an address and no live view appears" and "it's all ads, no satellite imagery." It seems the ads implied live satellite views and even locating people by phone number, and users found out after installing that none of it works (inference).

**The demand was already stirred up by others.** On TikTok, videos tagged #liveearthcamera and #cctv ran from 2025 through October 2026, mostly creator content built from one template, with individual views from 50K to 18M. Many carried #ad and promoted another app called Live Earth Camera plus a few web maps. Searching "locaris" on TikTok turns up no relevant videos (11-06). Locaris itself made no content; it took the already-hyped "watch the world" curiosity and bought traffic for it on Instagram.

The rest is a little store search traffic: the name includes GPS and World Map, and the subtitle reads Live Views & GPS Travel Tools. There is no discussion on X or in the media; the only results are automatically generated aggregator pages.

### Where the money comes from: Muse spent heavily right then

The app is free and makes money from interstitials, rewarded videos, and cross-promotion. Reviews complain "Meta and Google ads everywhere," "every tap is a Meta ad," and some say the app keeps pushing other paid apps, with close buttons that don't respond.

The timing is the key. Meta launched its AI agent Muse on Sep 8, promoting it first inside its own products and then buying heavily across mobile ad networks, Reddit, TikTok, and YouTube. By Sep 22, Muse was among the top 10 brands by US ad spend. At that point Muse was only open to the US and Canada (TechCrunch 2026-09-25, citing Sensor Tower and Apptopia). Locaris began ramping in Sep 18 with users concentrated in the US, and the ad that reviews mention most is Muse.

So the math likely works like this: Muse pays premium prices on Meta's ad network to reach US users, which pushes up US interstitial prices; Locaris buys US users on Instagram and sells its interstitial slots to Muse. That was profitable in 9 and 10 (inference, but the timing and reviews line up). It's not unique to Locaris either: the contemporaneous clone CamRoam also has reviews complaining about "Muse and Gemini ads."

### Who it's competing with

| Product | Launched | Scale (App Store US store, around 11-06) | Relationship to Locaris |
|---|---|---|---|
| CamRoam: Live Map & GPS | 2026-08-20 | 2,934 ratings, 4.0 stars; ranked #17–54 on the Travel chart; daily new ratings are 4–8 times Locaris's | Clone: same features, also a Hong Kong company, its website uses the same "random subdomain + brand domain" pattern, and it also gets criticized for Muse ads; it launched a day later and is performing better now |
| Live Earth Camera - GPS Map(Infinity Bridge) | 2026-08-24 | 139 ratings, 7 days +45 | Same playbook, and the company name also includes Bridge; whether it's the same team is unverified |
| LiveGlobe: GPS Map Camera | 2026-07-15 | 100 ratings, #29 in 11-06 Travel chart, still climbing | A month earlier |
| Earth Lens, Globe Hop, Mapsy, Globus, and others | 2026-08 to 10 | Single digits to dozens of ratings | Since July, at least a dozen clones have appeared on iOS |
| MAPAS, EarthCam, TerraCam | 2014–2022 | 4,000–7,000 ratings, reputation 4.2–4.8 | Established, light on ads; EarthCam has its own camera network |
| The Live Earth Map family on Android | From ¥2017 | 12M to 33M installs each (Google Play, 11-06) | The same ad business has been running on Android for years; only recently has it been ported to iOS |

Users have free alternatives: Google Earth, Apple Maps' Look Around, and web-based global camera maps, none with interstitials. One review says it outright: "YouTube has these cameras with fewer ads than this."

### If it were you

**One-line verdict** : don't build what Locaris built. iOS already has a dozen clones, the largest (CamRoam) is already ahead, and the high-priced interstitial buyer, Muse, won't keep spending like this. What's worth learning is its arbitrage method.

**Who it suits** : teams already running app portfolios, who buy traffic on Meta, have ready-made ad-monetization SDKs and reskinning pipelines, and don't mind if one app runs for two or three months and then gets replaced when it loses money.

**Who it doesn't suit** : indie devs who want to build a product that keeps users long-term and grows slowly through word of mouth and subscriptions. A 3.3-star, ad-complaint-heavy approach runs directly against that.

**How to do it:**

1. Look for tool categories where "TikTok has already educated users, Android has run ad factories for years, and iOS has few players." Live Earth cameras are already saturated; GPS camera watermarks, speed meters, distance measurement, and AR rulers can each be screened against this standard.

2. Watch for when big advertisers concentrate their spending. Interstitial prices peak when a new app like Muse is pouring money into ad networks in the US, which is also the moment to launch new products.

3. Cut back on ads. CamRoam and Locaris are nearly the same product. CamRoam has 4.0 ratings, Locaris has 3.3, and CamRoam is picking up several times as many new ratings per day. Dialing ad density down a little would lift store conversion and rankings noticeably. This is the easiest gap to exploit among current peers.

**How to acquire users** : Instagram / Facebook feed ads, US only. Pitch the curiosity angle: "watch live views of the whole world." Ads that imply you can locate a person by phone number draw a flood of bad reviews and reports, so don't run them.

**When to get in** : Before US interstitial CPMs fall back, that is, before big advertisers like Muse pull back. That most likely means the next few months, through year-end. When Locaris and CamRoam both drop off the charts, the cycle is over.

**What would show this read is wrong** : ① After Muse stops buying, apps like CamRoam still hold a top-50 spot in Travel, which would mean the math works without Muse and the opportunity is bigger than described here; ② Apple starts pulling "all-ads" apps like this, or Meta tightens review of misleading creatives, and the whole playbook stops working.

## Locaris – GPS World Map (iOS 6800541093) research report

> In one line: Locaris is a batch-produced wrapper from the Hong Kong shell company BIG BRIDGE NETWORK TECHNOLOGY LIMITED, bundling "global live cameras + 3D globe + street view + location watermark." It got traction, but the product itself did little of the work. The playbook was buying US users on Instagram, then monetizing them with back-to-back interstitials and rewarded videos. It started scaling in mid-September 2026, right when Meta was spending heavily to acquire users for its new AI app Muse, and Muse ads flooded its interstitial slots. It sits at 3.3 stars in the US, and reviews are almost all complaints about ads. This category has been a tens-of-millions-install ad factory on Android for years; on iOS, at least a dozen clones appeared between 2026 7 and October, and the twin CamRoam, launched in the same period, now outperforms it.

### 1. How to read the data card (correcting first)

- **Ratings are mostly from the US** : iTunes lookup (2026-11-06): US 1,570 ratings, average 3.32; India 99 (3.68), UK 37 (3.0), Thailand 20, Australia 17 (2.94). appstore library app_profile: US 1,560, +7 in the past 154 days; Mexico 100, India 97, Japan 33, and all other countries in single digits. The card's "about 40 small-country Travel free charts in the top 100" only reflects a low bar for small-country charts (at #42 in Venezuela it had just 10 ratings), so it does not mean global rollout.

- **The daily total_ratings in the card fluctuates** (1,627–2,055); this is a definitional issue: the library only aggregates countries charted that day, not an actual drop in ratings. True growth is in rating_delta: every country gains +23~46 per day, the US gains +11~34 (appstore.app_day, 10-29 to 11-06).

- **US rank is sliding** : on Sensor Tower's US Travel free chart 2026-10-26 it ranks #20 (from search snippet, sensortower top-charts); in our library it went #10-28 → #47 → #11-01 → #109 → #11-06 → #163. The scaling peak was likely late October, and it is now receding.

- **Timing of the surge** : the earliest US review in the RSS feed is from 8-26 (only one), and reviews only started arriving in daily batches after 9-18. So 8-19 sat unnoticed for a month after launch before mass acquisition began in mid-September.

- Version: 1.0.4,2026-10-19 update, release notes only say "Optimize user experience"; free; supports 19 languages (iTunes lookup).

### 2. How users came in (growth levers)

| Channel | Evidence | Confirmed |
|---|---|---|
| Instagram / Meta feed paid acquisition | US review: "I see an Ad for it on Instagram. I download and open it, immediately plays the same ad three times" (10-09); recall also turned up multiple reviews saying users came from Instagram ads. | Yes |
| Exaggerated or misleading creatives (implying live satellite views, locating people by phone number) | Reviews: "Doesn't let you find anyone. Like it saids. Put in number" (10-27), "no me permite poner el número del celular de mi hija" (9-24), "you can't type in a address and view in real time," "Just ads, no satellite images." The store's "You Might Also Like" section lists Phone Tracker / Family Location-type apps alongside it. | Inferred (original creatives not seen) |
| Store search / ASO | GPS / World Map stuffed into the name, subtitle "Live Views & GPS Travel Tools"; small-country Travel charts get a modest organic lift. | Partial |
| TikTok category heat (not its own spend) | #liveearthcamera and #cctv are templated creator content that has run for 2025–2026 years (50K–18M views each, many tagged #ad), promoting another app called "Live Earth Camera" and some web maps. Searching "locaris" on TikTok returned no related videos at all. | It simply rode category demand and created none of the content itself. |
| X / media / Reddit | x-radar: searches for locaris and camroam over the past 60 days each returned 0 posts; the web has only auto-generated listing pages from Softonic, AppBrain, and Similarweb. | None |
| Meta Ad Library (our metaads library) | Not on the tracking list; no match by App ID or name. No match does not mean no spend. | Not verified |

**Where the money comes from** : interstitials plus rewarded video, with demand from Meta Audience Network and Google. Verbatim reviews: "Excessively riddled with ads from Meta and Google," "every new click brings an ad from Meta." The most common ad served is **Muse by Meta** : from 9-19 onward, many reviews mention "Muse ad," "Rides piggy back on muse," "two Muse ads back to back... I can't close the second Muse ad." The app also cross-promotes other paid apps ("marketing several other costly apps," "forces you to download advertised apps," with close buttons that don't respond).

**There's a timing angle here** : Meta launched the AI agent Muse on 2026-09-08, began running in-app ads for it on 9-09, then expanded to third-party mobile ad networks, Reddit, TikTok, and YouTube; by 9-22, Muse was among the top 10 brands by US ad spend. Muse was then available only in the US and Canada (TechCrunch 2026-09-25, citing Sensor Tower / Apptopia). Locaris began scaling in mid-September and its users were concentrated in the US, so the two line up. The inference: Muse bought US users at high prices on Audience Network, raising US interstitial eCPMs, so the arbitrage of "buy US traffic on Instagram → sell interstitials to Muse" worked from 9 through October. The twin app CamRoam in the library also gets reviews complaining about "ads for muse and Gemini," so this is not unique to Locaris.

### 3. Competitors

| Competitors | Platform | Launched | Scale | How it differs from Locaris |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CamRoam: Live Map & GPS(HONG KONG WANHONG INTERNATIONAL) | iOS | 2026-08-20 | US 2,934 ratings, 4.0 stars; US Travel free chart 17–54; +76~187 ratings per day, 4–8 times Locaris's rate (appstore library 10-28 to 11-06) | Nearly a twin: the same feature mix (live cameras + location-watermark camera), a Hong Kong company, and the same seller-site pattern of "random subdomain + brand domain" (ygcw.camroam01.com vs. pgqg.locarisss.com). Both get reviews about ads and Muse. It scores higher and is doing better now. |
| Live Earth Camera - GPS Map(Infinity Bridge Limited) | iOS | 2026-08-24 | US 139 ratings, 4.1 stars, +7 in 45 days | Same playbook, and its company name also includes "Bridge" (whether it's the same company as Locaris is unverified). This one also makes translation, sports-score, and English-learning apps. |
| LiveGlobe: GPS Map Camera(Yuenhe Innovations) | iOS | 2026-07-15 | US 113 ratings; Travel chart #11-06 at #29, trending up | Same category, about a month earlier than Locaris |
| GPS Map-3D Map & Live Camera (HONG KONG APEX ENERGY), Earth Lens (Chengdu Wuxiang), Globe Hop, Mapsy, Globus, Live Earth Map & Street Cam HD, and more | iOS | 2026-08 to 10 | Most have only single digits to a few dozen ratings | Since 2026-07, at least a dozen-plus apps with the same name and features on the App Store (searched by name via the appstore library) |
| MAPAS: Live Street View & GPS | iOS | 2017 | US 4,687 ratings, 4.26 stars, +7 in 278 days | Veteran players, focused on street view and navigation |
| Webcams – EarthCam(EarthCam Inc.) | iOS / web | 2014 | US 4,553 ratings | The original camera source, runs its own camera network, light on ads |
| TerraCam, Earth Maps (FOXPOI), Globe Earth 3D (ZipoApps) | iOS | 2022–2025 | 1,000–7,000 ratings | Satellite or globe-style apps, better reviews (4.4–4.8 stars) |
| The Live Earth Map family on Android (TarrySoft 32.9M installs, Appify Store 30M, GiggleGenius 19.4M, Prometheus 12.5M, 7 days + 325k, etc.) | Android | 2017–2026 | Tens of millions of installs (googleplay library 11-06) | This business was run into the ground on Android long ago: ad-monetized utility factories in Pakistan and India. On iOS it's only in the last couple of years that Hong Kong shell companies have moved it over. |
| Web-based global camera maps (the "200,000+ cameras" map promoted on TikTok by theroguedev, OSINT sites), Google Earth / Apple Maps Look Around | Web / big-tech features | — | — | Free, no interstitials; Locaris's "AI Street View" is really just Apple's own Look Around |

### 4. Why it took off

1. **The demand was hyped by others** : On TikTok, #liveearthcamera #cctv templated creator videos ran from 2025 through October 2026, with the top single video hitting 18M views. "Watch live cameras around the world" is already a curiosity people have been trained to want. Locaris just pushed the same pitch through Instagram paid acquisition.

2. **Paid acquisition + interstitial arbitrage** : Instagram ads target US users; once they open the app, it chains interstitials, rewarded videos, and cross-promotion, collecting ad revenue first while caring little about retention. Review quotes include "10 ads in about 2 minutes" and "Five ads before you see anything".

3. **Muse's window** : After Muse launched in 9-08, it poured paid acquisition into mobile ad networks, targeting only the US and Canada. Locaris scaled up from 9-18, with users concentrated in the US, and the ad most mentioned in its reviews is Muse. That window made US interstitials valuable (inference; the timing and evidence line up).

4. **Matrix company** : the developer 2022-08 is registered in Hong Kong (ltddir / tempb company records), and under one account publishes 7 unrelated apps: blood pressure tracking, AI translation, file management, wallpapers, QR scanning (iTunes lookup). CamRoam and Infinity Bridge, both Hong Kong companies running the same playbook, appeared around the same time. This is a production line, and Locaris is just one product from it.

5. **It's fading** : On the US Travel chart, it dropped from 10-26 #20 to 11-06 #163, with 20+ new ratings per day. CamRoam, running the same playbook, has already overtaken it.

### 5. Differentiation

Hardly anything original. The feature list (live cameras + 3D globe + Look Around street view + geotagged watermark camera + traffic + compass + world clock) just stacks the category's common features together. The "dark immersive" interface is the only pitch you can articulate. It runs because of paid-acquisition creative and monetization pacing, not the product; compare it with CamRoam and you can see it clearly: the same thing with a different skin performs better.

### 6. Visibility and copycats

- Visibility: no public revenue, no coverage on media, X, or Reddit, only auto-indexed sites. You could say **few people know about it yet** , but the category itself is already crowded.

- Copycats: 2026-07 through October, there are at least a dozen-plus same-template apps on iOS (see the competitor table). CamRoam and Locaris launched nearly the same day with identical tactics, likely from the same template or the same kind of team.

### 7. Takeaways

- The arbitrage "a curiosity already trained by TikTok → buy the same pitch on Meta → recoup via interstitials" can be replicated on the iOS US store. The prerequisite is a high enough interstitial eCPM; the window is best when big advertisers (like Muse) concentrate their spend.

- Old ad-factory categories that can move from Android to iOS (Live Earth Map, GPS Camera, Speedometer, and the like). Competition on iOS is still relatively thin.

- A cautionary lesson: with ratings of 3.3 and all one-star reviews, store conversion and retention get dragged down. This path only suits short-cycle matrix plays that reskin and restart. It won't produce a product that lasts.

### 8. Still unclear

- The original Instagram creatives and the scale of spend (the metaads library doesn't track this company; you'd need to look it up by Page in the Meta Ad Library website).

- Whether there are subscriptions or in-app purchases (lookup doesn't expose IAP info; one review mentions "worth paying for", unverified).

- Whether it's the same operator as CamRoam and Infinity Bridge (only the naming and URL tactics match).

- Whether the arbitrage still pays once Muse's paid acquisition ends.
