> Buy ads for "watch-and-earn" video apps in cheap-install countries like Nigeria, Vietnam and Brazil. Rewarded ad revenue from forced viewing beats the cost of the installs, and withdrawal thresholds keep rising so users barely cash out. Small-country category charts have low bars, and a few dozen ratings get you into the Top 10.

# Just 100 reais short, and the bar moved to 150: how HotShort makes money from "watching short dramas"

**What it is** An ad-watching cash app wearing a "free short dramas" shell: the ads promise money just for installing; inside, you build up a balance by watching rewarded video ads, and the withdrawal threshold keeps getting raised just as you approach it.

**Why it took off** It buys "watch dramas, earn money" ads in cheap-install countries like Nigeria, Vietnam and Brazil. The rewarded ads users are forced to watch earn more than the acquisition cost, and because the withdrawal threshold keeps rising, almost nobody actually gets paid, so it barely costs anything to run. Low-bar small-country category charts push it into the top 10 with just dozens of ratings.

**E** **How you could follow it** Don't copy the playbook. If you really want to do free short dramas with rewarded ads in emerging markets, the legitimate route is what PineDrama does: real content, smaller rewards, but actually paid out. And that lane is already held by TikTok.

E grade: it survives on promising payouts it never honors and repeatedly raising withdrawal thresholds. Copying it means deceiving users, and removals, account bans and lawsuits have already happened. Bigger versions of the same template, like CoinDrama and CoinShort, already exist, and the legitimate version is taken by TikTok's PineDrama. Still little known

HotShort-Dramas&Reels calls itself "no paywall, watch every short drama free" on the App Store. In Nov 6 it sat at #3 on the Nigeria Entertainment Top Free chart, #5 in Saudi Arabia, and #7 in Vietnam. But what it actually sells isn't short dramas. It's "install and get paid": users watch rewarded ads to build up a balance, and right as they near the cash-out threshold, the threshold moves up. Its main market is Android, and the same package ID has been installed 2.68M times. Below: how it works, why it charted, and why this isn't worth copying.

### A scam complaint that got 5 stars

On Oct 26, a Brazilian user left HotShort a 5-star App Store review titled: "Parece que vai pagar mas não paga" — basically "looks like it'll charge you, but it doesn't."

The body reads: "I kept watching, and when I got close to 100, which was the minimum withdrawal, they changed the threshold to 150, saying the 100 reais deadline had passed… I'd rather use PineDrama, which pays less but actually pays."

The same day, another Brazilian user wrote just one line: "The withdrawal target was 100, then right when I was about to hit it, it changed to 150." Oct 18, someone gave more detail: when the balance got to 98.50, each video only paid 0.0020. In Vietnam, a Sep 29 comment read: "Ⅰ was 1 short of 500k, and then the threshold jumped to 750k. Each ad watched pays 25 VND." A Saudi user did the math on Oct 19: each ad pays 0.0001 USD, "you'd have to watch about ten thousand ads, and in the end you get nothing." A Japanese user said that once, when they were close, they didn't log in for a day, and the minimum withdrawal amount went up.

These reviews come from four countries in four languages over about a month and a half, and they describe the same mechanism. Across Brazil, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia and Japan, from mid-September to early November, the 138 reviews are almost all 1-star, and not one says it got paid.

### What it is

Open the store page and you won't see anything about money. The iOS description talks about suspense, fantasy, urban and period short dramas, "no subscription or top-up needed," "officially licensed." The Android version (same package name com.maze.tinyfishmaze) says it outright: "short videos with awesome rewards…real, tangible benefits."

Users are pulled in by ads. Reviews repeatedly mention "download and get 100 reais" or "500k dong." Once inside, watching dramas, checking in and doing tasks all require a rewarded video ad first, and each one nudges the balance up a bit. It rises fast at the start, then slower the closer you get to the threshold, until each video pays only a few cents or fractions of a cent. When you're nearly there, the threshold itself goes up.

The short dramas are the shell; the rewarded ads are the product. The user's time is sold to ad networks.

### How fast it grew

The iOS numbers are tiny. Across all stores in Nov 6, it got 834 ratings in total; in Oct 28 it was 574. Over the last 7 days it added 15 to 43 ratings a day (App Store rating counts, 11-06). It shows up on a chart in 64 to 70 countries every day, but almost all of it is the Entertainment category's free chart. It makes the top 10 because category charts in the Nigeria, Saudi and Vietnam stores are easy to crack, and a few dozen ratings a day is enough. Average ratings by store: US 2.23, Brazil 2.29, Vietnam 2.20, Saudi Arabia 2.64, Nigeria 1.94 (iTunes, 11-06).

The real volume is on Android:

| | iOS | Android |
|---|---|---|
| Bundle ID | com.maze.tinyfishmaze | The same |
| Developer | Naughty Corner Music Limited | Ji Teng Yuan Limited |
| Launched | 2026-08-26 | 2026-04-25 |
| Scale (11-06) | 834 ratings, 7 days +199 | 2.69M installs, +76k in 7 days, store shows 4.4 rating |

Android ran for four months first; iOS was a later addition.

### Two shells

The package name is tinyfishmaze, "little fish maze," on both platforms. A short-drama app using a maze mini-game package name most likely means it got past review with a casual game first and was later changed to what it is now (inference; I didn't obtain the pre-rename version).

The iOS developer account is stranger. Naughty Corner Music Limited, Chinese name 頑角音樂有限公司, was registered in Hong Kong in 2025 January. It's a real small music label with songs distributed on Spotify. It has only this one app, and its website is a template landing page calling itself "a Hong Kong short-drama production and distribution company, 2K+ short dramas." The Android developer Ji Teng Yuan Limited lists the email xianggangyinli@kelai.tech, the site sits on a random netlify subdomain, and the privacy policy came from an online generator. Corporate records show no link between the two, but the same package name and product name make it highly likely they're the same operator (inference).

The iOS version was updated four times in one month: 1.0.3 (9-22), 1.0.4 (9-24), 1.0.5 (10-05), 1.0.6 (10-20). The current release notes say only "fixed known issues, improved performance." From the version numbers in reviews, by September 19 1.0.2 people were already complaining that they "can't find the withdrawal entry," and the reward system got more complete with each version. List first, then unlock the features gradually (inference).

### Where users come from

All bought.

- **Put ads in other people's apps promising cash for installing.** Reviews repeatedly call it "propaganda enganosa" (misleading ads) and "quảng cáo ko đúng sự thật" (false ads). Oct 30, a Saudi user said he saw its ad in "Asphalt 8", and the ad content offended religion.

- **Pick cheap countries.** The charted markets are Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, South Africa, Kenya, Egypt and Brazil; the US has only 61 ratings. Installs are cheap there, and rewarded videos still pay decently in Saudi Arabia and Brazil.

- **A bit of long tail.** A Brazilian side-hustle channel posted "$5 PER VIDEO WATCHED! I TESTED HOTSHORT" about two months ago, with 1,305 views. Almost nobody on TikTok, X or in the press mentions it.

**How the money comes back** : buying a user costs less than the rewarded-ad revenue you squeeze out of them. Withdrawal thresholds keep rising, which means you basically never pay out. Bad reviews don't matter because bought users don't read store ratings. When the app gets banned, change the package name and developer account and relaunch. The content costs almost nothing: US reviews say many dramas show "not available in your region" as soon as you open them.

### Who it's competing with

It's a copycat itself, and it doesn't even rank near the top.

| Competitors | Platform | Scale (11-06) | How it differs from HotShort |
|---|---|---|---|
| CoinDrama | iOS, listed 9-02 | 3,126 ratings, +7 in 2,417 days; #2 in Nigeria's Entertainment chart | Same threshold-pushing trick. A Vietnamese review: "Saw the 500k cash-out bar, almost there, so now I'm pushed to 700k." The comments are full of one- or two-word 5-star reviews, which looks like prompted five-star ratings. iOS volume is more than ten times HotShort's. |
| CoinShort | Android, listed 4-16 | 3.61M installs, +160k in 7 days | Also uses a game package name (Snake) as a shell, and is bigger than HotShort |
| SnapShort | Android, listed 3-25 | 608k installs | Similar shells |
| GreatShort | Android | Not verified | Users in Pakistan and the Philippines complain about the same trick: "Install and get 5,100 rupees, withdrawal needs 12,000, and in the end you have to watch 9,999,999 ads" (Google Play community posts). |
| Tikoo: Watch Drama, Earn Cash | iOS, listed 1-05 | US: 5,889 ratings | Named outright "Cash Earning", aimed mainly at the US |
| PineDrama(TikTok) | iOS / Android | iOS 253k ratings, +7k in 39 days, #1 on Brazil's Top Free overall chart | Legitimate content, small rewards but real payouts. This is the one the 5-star negative review compared it against. |

One ring further out are legitimate short-drama platforms like DramaBox, ReelShort and DramaWave, which produce their own content, plus a batch of apps launched in the last 2026 years that give content away free and earn from ads.

On content, HotShort can't match any legitimate platform. On the cash-earning template, CoinDrama and CoinShort are both bigger than it. It doesn't lead on anything.

### Why it still charts

Four things, none of them the product itself:

1. **The arbitrage works.** Installs in cheap countries cost less than the rewarded-ad revenue, and raising thresholds drives the cost of paying users to nearly zero.

2. **Short drama is a ready-made cover.** "Watch dramas for free" is a strong ad hook, and it lets a cash-earning app look like a normal entertainment app and land on the Entertainment charts. PineDrama already taught Brazilian users that watching dramas earns rewards, and the copycats ride that.

3. **Small-country categories are easy to crack.** A few dozen ratings a day can reach the top 10, which brings in a bit of organic traffic.

4. **Android first, then iOS as a second channel.** They borrow a Hong Kong music company's account and get past review with descriptions that don't mention rewards.

### The risks are already on the table

Vietnamese outlets VnExpress and Thanh Niên have reported "watch dramas, earn money" scams, and Ho Chi Minh City police issued a warning, though HotShort wasn't named. Oct 21, a Brazilian user wrote in the reviews: "I'm ready to sue, I spent hours collecting evidence." Another Vietnamese user says after 7 days of check-ins they get pushed to gambling sites and have to top up before withdrawing. That's one unverified claim. Apple and Google could pull it for misleading rewards at any time.

### If it were you

**Verdict** : Don't touch it. It only works through fraud: promised money isn't paid, and thresholds keep moving. Copying it means doing the same deceptive thing, and the template already runs at five or six apps, with HotShort not even in the top two.

**Who it's for** : no indie developer. The only team that can learn from it is one already monetizing ads in emerging markets. Learn its country selection, not its tactics.

**Who it's not for** : everyone, especially anyone who wants to run a product for the long term and cares about their developer account and reputation. If Apple treats it as fraud, it bans the whole account. People in Vietnam and Brazil are already going the legal route.

**How to do it** : if you really want "emerging market + free short drama + rewarded ads," there is only one legitimate path: do what PineDrama does, with licensed or self-made content, small rewards that are actually paid, and ad revenue covering rewards and paid acquisition. But TikTok already occupies that path, and it's #1 on Brazil's Top Free overall chart. An indie developer will struggle to beat it on both acquisition and content.

**How to acquire users** : a legitimate version still relies on rewarded ads inside other apps and cheap countries like Nigeria, Vietnam and Brazil. The difference is that the numbers in your ads have to be paid out, or you end up with the 1-star wall of reviews HotShort has now.

**When to move** : there's no window. The template is already crowded, and takedowns and enforcement are only getting closer.

**What would prove this wrong** : if over the next few months HotShort, CoinDrama and similar apps aren't pulled, keep switching shells, and stay in the top 10 of entertainment charts across countries, the platforms are clearly tolerating this arbitrage and it's more durable than it looks. If reviews start reporting real payouts, it means they're paying a small share of users as bait, and the model is more refined than pure fraud. Neither case would make it an opportunity worth following.

Where users come from

- **Confirmed** **Rewarded / interstitial ads inside other apps promising cash for installing** : many reviews call the ads deceptive (propaganda enganosa / quảng cáo ko đúng sự thật). A Saudi review says they saw its ad in "Asphalt 8". Reviews describe "install and get 100 reais / 500k dong", which matches.

- **Confirmed** **Paid acquisition in low-CPI emerging markets, selected by country** : the charted markets are Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, South Africa, Kenya, Egypt and Brazil; the US has only 61 ratings.

- **Confirmed** **YouTube side-hustle review** : Brazilian channel rendaextradiária, "$5 PER VIDEO WATCHED! I TESTED THE HOTSHORT APP", 1,305 views.

- Inferred **TikTok content** : I only found Pakistani account @hot.short.tv48 (10k followers). I can't confirm it's connected to this app.

- **Confirmed** **Store ASO: the name includes Dramas&Reels, and the description is localized into 17 languages** : iTunes lookup.

## HotShort-Dramas&Reels (iOS 6800989223) research report

> In one sentence: HotShort isn't really a short-drama product. It's a cash-earning shell built around "watch shorts, earn money": ads promise 100 reais / 500k dong in cash just for installing, then the app slowly feeds your balance through rewarded videos, and as you approach the withdrawal threshold each ad pays only a few cents, or the threshold jumps from 100 to 150 and from 500k to 750k. The real volume is on Android (same package name com.maze.tinyfishmaze, 2.69M installs, +7k in the last 76 days). iOS is just a secondary channel, with 834 ratings and an average of 2.2 in the US store. It works through **arbitrage: cheap emerging-market installs for "earn money" ads plus rewarded-video monetization** , with almost nothing to do with content or product differentiation. The same template has at least CoinDrama, CoinShort, GreatShort and Tikoo running too, and some are bigger than it.

### 1. How to read the data card

- **iOS volume is small** : total ratings 834 (all stores combined, appstore library 2026-11-06), 10-28 to 11-06 new ratings a day, 15–43 new ones per day, +7 in 199 days. Its best rank is #3 on Nigeria's Entertainment Free chart, #5 in Saudi Arabia, #7 in Vietnam, and its best on the overall Free chart is #48 in Nigeria. It appeared on a chart in 64–70 stores per day (appstore.app_day). Making the top 10 in Entertainment reflects the low bar for that category in these stores, not large volume.

- **Store averages** (iTunes lookup, 2026-11-06): US 2.23 (61 ratings), Brazil 2.29 (192), Vietnam 2.20 (193), Saudi Arabia 2.64 (88), Nigeria 1.94 (34).

- **Reviews are almost all 1-star scam complaints** : the library captured 138 reviews (Brazil / Vietnam / Saudi Arabia / Japan, 2026-09-19 to 11-04), mostly 1 stars, with keywords golpe (scam), mentira (lie), lừa đảo (fraud), and نصابين (scammers). The specific tactics line up (appstore.review):
    - Brazil: "when it gets close to 100, it pays 1 cents" (near the 100 mark, each item pays only 1 cents); "the withdrawal goal used to be 100, and when people were almost there it changed to 150" (the withdrawal threshold went from 100 to 150); "This app promises 100 reais... they're going to raise the withdrawal amount".
    - Vietnam: "At the 500k tier, withdrawing leaves 1 thousand more, and then the threshold jumps to 750k" (when you're at 500k, 1 thousand short, the threshold jumps to 750k); one report says that after 7 consecutive days of check-ins, users get steered to a gambling site and must deposit before they can withdraw (single report, unverified).
    - Saudi Arabia: "كل إعلان تحصل على .0001 دولار" (each ad you watch earns you 0.0001 dollars); another review says they saw its ad in "Asphalt 8", and the ad content offended religion.
    - Japan: "後少しって時、ログインしなかったら最低金額が上がった" (when I was just short, I didn't log in and the minimum withdrawal went up).

- One Brazilian review makes the comparison in passing: "Prefiro o Pinedramas que paga pouco, mas paga" (I prefer PineDrama, which pays little but actually pays).

- **Store descriptions don't match reality** : the iOS description says "zero paywall, official licensing, watch all dramas free without logging in," with no mention of cash rewards at all (probably to get past Apple review). The Android description says outright: "short videos with awesome rewards... real, tangible benefits... feel your rewards ignite" (Google Play page, 2026-11-06).

### 2. The real source: Android is the main market, iOS is a follow-on

| | iOS | Android |
|---|---|---|
| Bundle ID | com.maze.tinyfishmaze | com.maze.tinyfishmaze (same app) |
| Developer | Naughty Corner Music Limited | Ji Teng Yuan Limited |
| Launched | 2026-08-26 | 2026-04-25 |
| Scale | 834 ratings, 7 days +199 | **2,686,709 installs** (10-29 is 2,610,482,7 days +76,227), 18,584 ratings, store shows 4.4 stars |
| Charted | Entertainment Top Free in 64–70 stores | Entertainment Top Free: #92 in Saudi Arabia, #111 in South Korea, #119 in Thailand; also charting in Malaysia, Brazil, Japan and Vietnam (googleplay.chart_rank) |

Data source: googleplay library app / app_profile / app_day, 2026-11-06.

- **Package name tinyfishmaze (Little Fish Maze)** : both platforms use the package name of a maze mini-game. Most likely it passed review under a casual-game shell and was later switched to short drama and cash-earning apps (inference; no version history from before the rename).

- **The iOS developer account looks borrowed or bought** : Naughty Corner Music Limited (Chinese name 頑角音樂有限公司), registered 2025-01-17 in Hong Kong (company registration no. 77612995, tempb.com). It is a real music label with a Spotify release (artist dorothy 劉君冬) and is listed in PPSEA's member directory. The only app under it is this one. Its website website.nerdycorner.uk is a template landing page calling itself a "Hong Kong-registered short drama production and distribution company, 2K+ short dramas".

- **Android developer Ji Teng Yuan Limited** : contact email xianggangyinli@kelai.tech (pinyin for "Hong Kong Yinli"), website on a random Netlify subdomain, privacy policy generated by privacypolicies.com (googleplay.app). A typical overseas shell-company setup.

- iOS version cadence: 1.0.2 (mid-September) → 1.0.3 (9-22) → 1.0.4 (9-24) → 1.0.5 (10-05) → 1.0.6 (10-20), 4 versions in one month (version field in appstore.review). The recall card says the "watch rewarded ads to earn gems and unlock all episodes" feature was added in 1.0.2, so it cleared review clean first and turned on the reward features gradually.

### 3. Competitors

#### A. The same "watch short dramas, earn cash" template (the real comparables)

| Name | Platform | Launched | Scale | Compared with HotShort |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CoinDrama(YS Culture Limited) | iOS | 2026-09-02 | 3,126 ratings, 7 days +2,417; #2 in Nigeria's Entertainment chart, #6 in Saudi Arabia, #9 in Egypt | Same playbook (Vietnamese review: "coi 500k là rút mà coi gần tới 500k là nó đẩy lên 700k"), but iOS volume is more than 10x HotShort's. Reviews are full of 5-star one-liners ("Ok" "Tốt" "keren"), **clearly from incentivized ratings** , which HotShort did not do |
| CoinShort(HUIZHOU TAITAN JINSHU LIMITED,com.sunriseskywaysnake) | Android | 2026-04-16 | 3.61M installs, 7 days +160k; #26 in Indonesia's Entertainment chart | Package name is also a game (Snake) shell, launched in the same period, bigger than HotShort |
| SnapShort(Dongtong Co., Limited,com.stellar.stellarglide) | Android | 2026-03-25 | 608k installs, 7 days +38k | Same-type shell packages |
| GreatShort / Great Shorts | Android | Mid-2026 | Not verified | Users in Pakistan and the Philippines complain about the same mechanic: "install and get PKR 5,100, withdrawal needs PKR 12,000, check in 4 days, level 30, finally watch 9,999,999 ads" (Google Play community post 451803818; TikTok @mask.rider.black6 with 2026-07-2.12M views) |
| Tikoo: Watch Drama, Earn Cash(UK RSBC NETWORK) | iOS | 2026-01-05 | US: 5,889 ratings | Named "Earn Cash" outright, targeting the US store, not emerging markets |
| HotShort - Mobile Dramas(Laura Bindner / YU XUNQUAN,com.fire.hotshortapp) | Android | 2025-05-28 | 441k installs | A namesake that is charting, #33 in South Korea's Entertainment chart; no evidence it is related to this app |

#### B. Legitimate short-drama platforms (what users see as the alternatives)

| Name | Platform | Launched | Scale | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PineDrama(TikTok Ltd.) | iOS / Android | 2025-12-23 | iOS 253k ratings, +7k in 39 days, #1 on Brazil's Top Free overall chart | A ByteDance product. Free short dramas with rewards, and it actually pays out (a Brazilian review compares it favorably); content is officially licensed |
| DramaBox / ReelShort / GoodShort / NetShort / DramaWave | iOS / Android | 2022–2024 | iOS ratings from 300k to 1.2M | Original or licensed content, monetized through paid unlocks / subscriptions / ad unlocks |
| Free short-drama apps launched in the last 2026 years: BlinkDrama, VibeShort, Soda Reels, ReelyGo, FreeDrama, etc. | iOS | 2025-09 to 2026-06 | 7 days +4 thousand to +10k ratings | Actually offer free short-drama content and make money from ads, not using "cash" as the hook |

Data source: appstore / googleplay libraries, 2026-11-06.

Bottom line: **HotShort leads on no metric** . As content it loses to the legitimate short-drama platforms; as a cash-earning template, CoinDrama (iOS) and CoinShort (Android) are both bigger than it.

### 4. Growth tactics (where users come from)

| Channel | Evidence | Confirmed? |
|---|---|---|
| Runs rewarded / interstitial ads inside other apps, promising "install and get paid" | Many reviews call the ads deceptive (propaganda enganosa / quảng cáo ko đúng sự thật / "ما فيه اي شي من كلام الاعلان"). Saudi reviews name seeing its ads inside 8 Forza Horizon. Reviews consistently describe "100 reais for installing / 500k VND", which matches the recall card's ads showing $204 while the in-app amount shows $60 | Confirmed (inferred from reviews that this is paid user acquisition; the specific ad network is unverified) |
| Low-CPI emerging markets chosen country by country | On iOS the charting markets are Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, South Africa, Kenya, Egypt, Brazil, Pakistan; on Android they are Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Brazil; the US store has only 61 ratings | Confirmed (from chart distribution) |
| YouTube "make side money" review channels | Brazilian channel rendaextradiária's video "$5 PER VIDEO WATCHED! I TESTED THE HOTSHORT APP", posted about 2 months ago, 1,305 views | Existence confirmed, small reach; whether it is paid promotion is unknown |
| TikTok content / creators | Searching TikTok for HotShort turned up only one Pakistani account, @hot.short.tv48 (10k followers, 2026-04 posts short-drama clips with #Hotshorttv). Cannot confirm it is the official account | Not verified |
| Meta Ad Library | Our metaads library does not track this product, so no ad data; no data does not mean no ads were run | Not verified |
| X / media / HN | x-radar found 60 mentions of HotShort in the last 0 days; no media coverage | Confirmed none |
| Store ASO | The iOS name stacks "Dramas&Reels", and the description is localized into 17 languages, capturing some short-drama search traffic | Partial |

**How the money comes back** : users drawn in by "cash" install the app → every episode and every task requires watching rewarded video ads → ad revenue (rewarded video eCPMs are decent in markets like Saudi Arabia and Brazil) > acquisition cost (CPIs are very low in Nigeria, Vietnam, Pakistan). Withdrawal thresholds keep rising, so almost no one actually gets paid; those who do are a tiny fraction held back by the thresholds. Content costs are close to zero on iOS, since most of it is "unplayable in your region" or unlicensed (per the recall card). Lots of bad reviews don't matter: bought users don't read store ratings, and when a shell gets banned you swap the package name and the developer account and relaunch.

### 5. Why it took off

1. **An arbitrage model, not a product** : watch ads for cash + keep raising the threshold, users' time is sold to ad networks, and acquisition cost sits below rewarded-ad revenue. Evidence: 138 reviews, almost all 1-star, describe the same threshold mechanic.

2. **Short drama is one of the hottest categories over the last 2025–2026 years** . "Free short dramas" is itself an effective ad angle, and it makes a cash-reward hook look like a normal entertainment app that can pass review and chart in the Entertainment category. PineDrama, a big-company product, has already taught Brazilian users that watching short dramas can pay off (Brazilian reviews compare it directly).

3. **Targeting small markets** : the free Entertainment charts in Nigeria, Saudi Arabia and Vietnam have low entry barriers. A few dozen new ratings a day can push an app into the top 10, which brings in a bit of organic traffic.

4. **Android ran first (April), iOS followed (August)** : Android already has 2.68M installs. iOS is a second distribution channel, using a borrowed Hong Kong music company account and a clean description to pass review, then turning on the rewards in a later version update.

### 6. Differentiation

Essentially none. It uses the same "short-drama shell + cash hook + rising thresholds" template as CoinDrama, CoinShort and GreatShort, and is smaller than two of them. Against legitimate short-drama platforms it has no content. The only "difference" is that its iOS description says nothing about rewards (unlike the Android version), which is a review-passing trick, not a reason users choose it. So the differentiation is **not** why it works; arbitrage on paid acquisition is.

### 7. Visibility and copycats

- Revenue is not disclosed. Not listed on TrustMRR, 0 discussions on X, no tech media coverage.

- Vietnamese media has broadly reported "watch short films to earn money" scams (VnExpress, "Chiêu lừa 'xem phim ngắn kiếm tiền triệu'"; Thanh Niên on a Ho Chi Minh City police warning), but none named HotShort.

- This template is crowded: CoinDrama, CoinShort, SnapShort, GreatShort, Tikoo and others are all running it at the same time, all launched in the last 2026 years, with low barriers to entry. HotShort is itself a follower.

### 8. What to borrow

- **At the tactics level** : emerging-market Entertainment charts have low entry barriers, there is a spread between rewarded-video eCPM and CPI, and "free short dramas" is an effective ad angle in those markets. The legitimate approach is what PineDrama and FreeDrama do: real content, small rewards actually paid out, monetized through ads.

- **At the review level** : the same package name on both platforms, a clean iOS description that turns features on in later versions, and a borrowed shell-company account are all visible. But Apple has a high delisting risk for "misleading" rewards, so this is not recommended to copy.

- **Risks** : deceptive cash-earning apps have already been named by police and media in Vietnam and Brazil; Apple and Google can delist at any time; reviews already include people saying "Já estou com a ação pronta" (I'm ready to sue).

### 9. Uncertain

- Which ad network the acquisition uses, and the per-user CPI and rewarded-ad eCPM: no data.

- Whether anyone has actually withdrawn money: no review says they succeeded.

- One Vietnamese review says it leads to gambling sites; a single claim, unverified.

- Whether the two developer entities (Naughty Corner Music / Ji Teng Yuan) are the same team behind it: same package name and same product name make it highly likely, but no corporate link has been found in registry records.

- The recall card's claim that "RechPubooks uses the same template" hasn't been verified.

- One Sensor Tower page lists HotShort on the Pakistan Entertainment chart as of 2026-07-23, earlier than the iOS launch date 8-26. The page may be showing the current chart; unverified.
