Here's 250k Vietnamese dong, and you'll never quite get to cash out: CoinDrama brings "watch dramas, earn money" to iPhone

What it is An app where you watch AI short dramas and earn gold coins from ads, claiming you can cash out once you have enough. It mainly targets emerging markets like Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Vietnam, and Indonesia.

Why it took off The "watch dramas, earn money" funnel of paid acquisition plus rewarded ads, already proven on Android, was moved as-is to iOS, where there's almost no competition. Then it used Facebook ads, 18 languages, and rating-for-reward to take the top spots in small-country entertainment charts.

DHow you could approach it Don't copy the cash-out part. What's worth learning is turning rewarded ads into a retention mechanic, and the playbook of validating on Android first, then launching on iOS in many languages to win small-country category charts, applied to your own legitimate product.

Grade D: The money comes from a withdrawal barrier that means users never actually get paid out. Vietnamese media has already named it as a scam. The Android version was pulled once, and Apple could remove it at any time. Paying users honestly doesn't make money, and Android has plenty of similar apps. Learn the playbook, but I wouldn't follow it. What the grapevine says

CoinDrama is an app where you "watch short dramas to earn coins, and cash out once you've saved enough." The Android version launched in March and has been installed 17.9M times. In September, the same package name appeared on the App Store under a different company name. By late October it started climbing the charts in Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Vietnam, with daily new ratings going from dozens to over a thousand. What keeps it running isn't the dramas. It's a deliberately designed withdrawal barrier. Here's how this works, where the money comes from, and why we don't recommend following it.

One Saturday afternoon

In late September 2026, Ánh Ngọc, 25, in Ho Chi Minh City, saw an ad on Facebook: "Just watch and earn money." She installed CoinDrama. Seconds after opening it, a pop-up told her her account already had 250k dong (about ¥70), but she needed 500k to cash out. She started watching ads. Her balance first jumped 100k, then 50k, then the gains shrank. The last ad added just 1,000. "I watched ads for a whole Saturday afternoon and still couldn't reach 500k." Meanwhile the app kept asking her to download other apps and open unfamiliar links. In the end she deleted it, saying she felt "like I got scammed."

This is the opening of an October 12 article from VnExpress, Vietnam's largest news site, titled "The 'watch short dramas, earn millions' scam." The article doesn't say whether she used Android or iPhone, but Vietnamese users on the App Store describe the same thing. A one-star review from November 4: "It won't let you cash out. It says you can cash out at 500k, and when you're almost at 500k, it raises the bar to 700k." An Indonesian review from October 29: "I was about to withdraw 300 (thousand rupiah), and suddenly it became 450. When I got close to 450, it became 600. At first it gave out lots of coins, and later one ad gave only 15."

What it is

Opening it shows vertical short dramas with four bottom tabs: For you, Drama, Reward, and My. The dramas are AI-generated manga-style shows, and the store screenshots include titles like "Cultivation relies entirely on STEM." The third tab, "Reward," is the real focus: check-ins, watching rewarded ads, and completing tasks to earn coins, which are advertised as cashable.

The iOS developer is YS Culture Limited, which has only this one app. It launched in September 2, supports 18 languages including Arabic, Urdu, Bengali, Vietnamese, Thai, and Indonesian, and is clearly targeting emerging markets from day one. Its bundle ID is coin.com.drama, identical to the Coin Drama on Google Play with 17.9M installs, though the Android developer is listed under a different name, Tera Link. The same product is published under two entities, so if one gets banned, the other isn't affected (inference). The Android version was once removed from Google Play and later restored.

How fast it's growing

Total App Store ratings across all storefronts: 28 520 in October and 6 3,126 in November. Daily new ratings: 29 31 in October, 5 573 in November, and 6 1,015 later in November, still accelerating. Countries where it charts went from 35 to 52. It shipped version 2 in November 1.0.4, and growth picked up noticeably afterward, possibly due to added ad spend after the update (inference).

Nov 6 position across stores (App Store Top Free):

CountryOverall free chartEntertainment Top FreeScore
Nigeria382139
Saudi Arabia816344
Egypt1229172
Pakistan132952
Vietnam14712721
UAE1731099
Thailand16223270
IndonesiaOutside top 20026393

Note the right column: it reached #2 on Nigeria's Entertainment chart with only 139 ratings. Category charts in these countries have very low bars. A few dozen new ratings a day is enough to reach the top.

The Android side is much bigger: 17.9M cumulative installs as of Nov 6, and 1.17M new installs over the past 7 days (Google Play installs).

Where users come from

Facebook ads. This is how Ánh Ngọc found it. The ad copy is just one line: "Just watch and earn money." How much was spent and which countries were targeted can't be found from the outside.

"Is it real?" videos on YouTube. Since April, dozens of YouTube videos about Coin Drama have appeared in Hindi, Urdu, Indonesian, and Spanish, with titles like "Coin Drama se paise kaise kamaye" (how to earn money with Coin Drama) and "Withdrawal Proof 2026." The top ones have around 20,000 views. Whether they're praising it or exposing it, they're all building search volume for it. Whether any were paid for hasn't been confirmed.

Android's reputation carries over to iOS. Over ten million people on Android already know the name, so iPhone users searching "Coin Drama" on the App Store will find it (inference). The iOS version didn't need to build awareness from scratch, which is one reason it grew.

Ratings for rewards. In Vietnam in November 3, there's a five-star review titled "Đánh giá để Nhận thưởng" (rate for a reward), whose body reads "Not sure if they'll actually give the reward." Other five-star reviews say "Ok" or "Hay," a Saudi user named two places, and a Vietnamese user wrote "Just downloaded, still looking, not sure if I can cash out." The average is 4.72, but the written reviews are almost all about "scam," "can't cash out," and "all ads." The high scores make it look like a legitimate app in the store, which also pushes up its category ranking.

I found no official account or obvious influencer campaigns for it on TikTok, and nobody on X is discussing it.

Where the money comes from

It comes from ads users watch. It isn't on the top-grossing chart in any country and doesn't rely on in-app purchases or subscriptions. Each rewarded video watched earns it another slice of ad revenue, and the small balance it gives users is what keeps them watching.

The whole system is designed this way: a big sign-up bonus makes the goal feel close, the closer you get the less each action pays, and once you're near the threshold it moves further away. An Indonesian review puts it most clearly: "You need to watch ads to earn anything, one ad takes forever, the payouts keep shrinking, I've watched countless ads and still haven't hit the withdrawal target." Some Vietnamese users also say the diamonds they earned couldn't be transferred to MoMo (a Vietnamese e-wallet) at all.

Why iOS now? Ad rates for iPhone users are usually higher than for Android users, and that holds in emerging markets too (general industry knowledge, not verified against its data). The same funnel moved to iOS earns a bit more per user.

We found no credible evidence that anyone has successfully cashed out.

Who it's competing with

On Android, "watch dramas, earn money" apps are already crowded:

CompetitorsScale (Google Play, 11-06)How it differs from CoinDrama

ReelShort / DramaBoxAbout 300M installs eachPay-to-unlock and subscriptions, earning through in-app purchases; a different business

Google Play also has copycat "CoinDrama" listings (com.peach.playfun) and "CoinDrama - Short Dramas," plus another app called CashDrama, launched in August with 500k installs.

The iOS side is almost empty by comparison. Searching the App Store charts across countries for short-drama apps with cash, coin, lucky, or reward in their names, CoinDrama is the only one charting in 52 countries at once and gaining over two thousand ratings a week.

What it actually wins on

Not the dramas. They're AI-made, cheap to produce, and users didn't come for the shows.

It wins on three things: first, it validated the funnel on Android, learning how large the starting balance should be, how steep the decline, and when raising the bar keeps people watching ads. Second, it moved the same app to iOS under a different company name, where there was almost no competition. Third, it launched in 18 languages at once and used reward-based ratings to hold its star rating, aiming for the top of small-country category charts.

The advantage is fragile. VnExpress named it, Bangkok police and Indonesian financial regulators have publicly warned about the risks of "watch dramas, earn money" apps, and Apple's terms have always covered "watch ads for cash" and misleading promises. It could be removed at any time.

If it were you

Verdict: I wouldn't follow it. The money comes from a barrier that keeps users from ever cashing out. Copying that part is deceiving users, and it will eventually get the app removed and named by the media. Paying users honestly, meanwhile, doesn't leave enough from rewarded ads to cover the cost.

Who it fits: Android teams already monetizing with rewarded ads in emerging markets, who can treat this as a reference. Few such apps exist on iOS, and moving the same product there can earn an extra ad rate per user.

Who it doesn't fit: Solo indie developers and small teams aiming for a durable business. If you have no paid acquisition budget and can't handle account bans and public backlash, this path won't work.

How to do it: The part worth learning is the honest half. In your own tool or game, build rewarded ads as retention: progress bars, daily check-ins, watch an ad to unlock a feature or item. Be clear about what users get, and deliver it. Validate on Android, then launch on iOS in multiple languages across emerging markets at once, aiming for small-country category charts.

How to acquire users: It uses Facebook ads plus "is it real?" videos on YouTube. If you're building a legitimate product, the first is still usable. For the second, avoid hooks built around "making money," which attract regulators and bad reviews.

When is the window: Not applicable. If you still want to build a "watch dramas, earn money" app, the window depends on when Apple starts cleaning up this category, which could be within a few months.

What would mean you got it wrong: ① Three months later it's still on the App Store, still adding a thousand-plus new ratings a day, and users are posting withdrawal records that can be verified. That would mean it really pays out, and the model is cleaner than it looks. Worth a second look. ② Someone builds a watch-to-earn app that pays out at a stated, transparent rate, survives on iOS, and charts in the entertainment top 20 in several countries. That would show there's room for a legit version. ③ The other way: if both the iOS and Android versions get pulled within a month or two, that confirms this path doesn't go far.

One line

CoinDrama is a watch-to-earn short-drama app: watch shows, check in, and watch rewarded ads to earn coins that it claims can be cashed out. The iOS version was listed on 2026-09-02, developer YS Culture Limited. Its bundle id is coin.com.drama, exactly the same as the package name of the Android Coin Drama app (developer Tera Link, listed 2026-03-17) with 17.9M installs on Google Play. The iOS version moves an ad-acquisition and rewarded-ad funnel that already works on Android over to iOS.

Verdict

It works not because of the product or content, but because of a proven "cash-out promise → paid acquisition → rewarded-ad monetization" arbitrage playbook:

  • It buys ads on Facebook and other channels with "watch shows and earn money" creatives in emerging markets including Vietnam, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Egypt;
  • New users are handed a large virtual balance right away (Vietnam case: 250,000 VND, with a withdrawal threshold of 500,000). Then one rewarded ad after another slowly adds more. The closer you get to the threshold, the less you earn, and the threshold keeps rising (reviews: 300k→450k→600k IDR; 500k→700k VND);
  • The money comes back from ads users watch (rewarded video / interstitial eCPM), not from subscriptions or in-app purchases. It doesn't appear on the Top Grossing chart in any store in our library;
  • Ratings are pushed up by "review to get a reward" (Vietnamese review titles literally say "Đánh giá để Nhận thưởng"), so the average is 4.72, while the text is full of "scam / can't withdraw."

Data

iOS (appstore library, scanned across all 115 stores, key ones picked out)

  • Total ratings across all stores: 2026-10-28 520 → 11-06 3,126; daily new ratings rose from 31 (10-29) to 573 (11-05) and 1,015 (11-06), accelerating. Stores with charted positions: 35 → 52.
  • 11-06's positions: Nigeria overall Top Free #38, Entertainment Top Free #2; Saudi Arabia overall Top Free #81, Entertainment #6; Egypt overall Top Free #122, Entertainment #9; Vietnam overall Top Free #147 (best #85 at 11-03), Entertainment #12; Thailand Entertainment #23; Indonesia Entertainment #26; US Entertainment #129 (180,7 ratings, +124 in a day). Brazil Entertainment #47.
  • Stores with the most ratings: Vietnam 721, Indonesia 393, Saudi Arabia 344, Thailand 270, US 180, Egypt 172, Nigeria 139 (11-06).
  • Top Grossing: not charted in any store, which confirms it doesn't earn through in-app purchases.
  • Version 1.0.4,2026-11-02 update (ratings growth clearly picked up afterward; inference: the update came with bigger ad spend or review incentives). Supports 18 languages, including Arabic, Urdu, Bengali, Vietnamese, Thai, and Indonesian, so it targets emerging markets from day one.
  • Screenshot filenames are Chinese "listing images." The shows in the screenshots are AI-generated comic-style drama ("Cultivation relies entirely on STEM", "Game of Betr…"). The bottom tabs are For you / Drama / Reward / My (inference: a Chinese team going global, using AI comic drama to flood content cheaply).
  • Recent reviews (review library, vn/id/sa/th, 183 total): many one- or two-word five-star reviews ("Ok", "Hay", "Mantap", even names and places). Negative reviews focus on "can't withdraw," "threshold keeps rising," "all ads," and "scam." One review says it's a gambling gang's lead-gen app "cờ bạc bên cam" (unverified).

Android (googleplay library)

  • coin.com.drama "Coin Drama," developer Tera Link, launched 2026-03-17 as Early Access. Cumulative global installs 16,753,382 (10-29) → 17,928,502 (11-06), 7 daily gain 1,175,120; ratings count 134,201, 4.64 stars; UAE Entertainment Top Free #2, currently charted in 16 stores.
  • Developer site page.ai-trainer.work, contact is a personal Gmail ([email protected]), privacy policy hosted at coindramaapi.balaleek.com. HustleIQ says the Play developer is an individual in Egypt (Mohammed Antar Saad Mohammed). AppBrain once showed it delisted from Google Play at 5.8M installs and then back again. Going by our library, which has tracked it daily since 10-29.
  • The iOS seller is a separate entity, YS Culture Limited (sellerUrl home.ysculture.uk), with only this one app. The two platforms share a package name. Inference: the same team listed under different entities to reduce the risk of getting both accounts banned together.

Growth channels

  1. Facebook paid acquisition (confirmed): In a VnExpress report on 2026-10-12, a user in Ho Chi Minh City said that at the end of September they saw a CoinDrama ad while scrolling Facebook, with the line "just watch and earn money." Our Meta ad library only tracks tool-category keywords and didn't capture it. Not finding it doesn't mean it wasn't run.
  2. YouTube "is it real?" review videos (confirmed to exist; paid promotion unverified): Starting 2026-04, YouTube had dozens of Coin Drama review videos in Hindi / Urdu ("Coin Drama se paise kaise kamaye", "Withdrawal Proof 2026"), Indonesian, and Spanish. Some reached 21k views (@JunaidKhan05,2026-08-26). Whether positive or negative, they all drive brand search for it.
  3. Android brand spillover into iOS store search (inference): The Android version already has over 1,700 million installs. iPhone users searching "Coin Drama" find the iOS version, one reason it doesn't have to build traffic from scratch.
  4. Reviews for rewards (strong evidence): Vietnamese review titles "Đánh giá để Nhận thưởng / Không biết có được thưởng không" (review to get a reward / don't know if I'll get it); lots of meaningless five-star reviews (names, places, single letters); average rating 4.72, but negative reviews focus on withdrawals. This makes it look credible in the store and pushes its category ranking.
  5. Sign-up balance + invites / tasks (standard in the category; CoinDrama's sign-up balance is confirmed): The VnExpress case: 250,000 VND handed out on first open. Invite-a-friend rewards are standard in peers (ShortBox, FreeReels). Whether CoinDrama uses them is unverified.
  6. TikTok: TikHub search for "coindrama / coin drama" finds no official account or obvious creator promotion; X has no discussion (x-radar 60 days 0 posts).

Why now, and why it sticks

  • Why now: 2026 short-drama apps are now everywhere across Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Africa (PineDrama, Melolo, FreeReels and others built the habit). "Watch dramas and get paid" adds a hook on top of that wave. Android has been validated for 7 months; in September they copied the funnel to iOS, and by late October iOS was accelerating.
  • Where users come from: Facebook ads in emerging markets + YouTube "earn money" videos + spillover from the Android brand.
  • Why they stay: not for the content, but for the sunk cost of "my balance is almost at the withdrawal threshold." Every extra ad they watch earns the app more ad money.
  • Where the money comes from: ads users watch. iOS users in emerging markets generally carry higher ad eCPMs than Android users (common industry knowledge, not verified with data). That may be why it's pushing onto iOS.

Differentiation

Against legit short-drama platforms, its only "differentiator" is putting the withdrawal promise up front (the icon is a gold coin chest, the name is Coin, there's a Reward tab), with cheap AI comic-drama content. Against similar earn-money drama apps, its real difference is that it got onto iOS first and survived. Android has plenty of similar apps with tens of millions of installs; on iOS there's almost nothing else. That gap is why it's getting attention now, but it's fragile: Apple's stance on "watch ads for cash" (incentivized behavior, misleading promises) could pull it at any time. The Android version has already been pulled once.

How many people have seen it

  • Revenue isn't public, and there are no TrustMRR listings or founder revenue posts.
  • Media coverage exists but it's all negative: VnExpress (Vietnam's largest news site, 2026-10-12, headline "the 'earn millions watching short dramas' scam", naming CoinDrama and MixReels), HustleIQ (Nigeria, 2026-08-19), an ai-hay.vn Q&A; Indonesia's financial regulator OJK's account has also warned about "earn money watching short dramas" (without naming it).
  • In the "online earning / beermoney" circles everyone knows this category, and it's already crowded: on Android there are at least 5 similar apps at tens of millions of installs.
  • Verdict: it's spreading in small circles (and being passed around as a scam warning). The model itself has been copied to death; the iOS lane is still empty.

Copycats

  • Google Play already has name-riding clones: "CoinDrama" (com.peach.playfun), "CoinDrama - Short Dramas" (com.sundasjabeen.coindrama), "Drama Coin" from the dramaearn.top site; CashDrama (Guicheng Limited, 2026-08-19.5M installs).
  • Batch clones of the same model: Halo Reels / Pro / Max (Nutri Plaza, three package names launched together) and Drama World / Pro (Skylark Scan). Whether they're earn-money apps is unverified.

What to take from it

  • Validate the funnel on Android first, then move the same package to iOS under a new entity: competition on iOS is thin and there's room to bid higher.
  • Localize into 50 emerging-market storefronts at once, and take the top spots in the small countries' entertainment category charts with a low bar (Nigeria entertainment #2 needs only dozens of ratings a day).
  • AI comic-drama as filler content, at very low cost.
  • Note: the "fake withdrawal threshold" part is a high-risk zone for regulators and platform takedowns. Don't copy it. What's worth borrowing is the idea of making incentivized ads into a retention mechanism.

Unknowns

  • Whether anyone has actually withdrawn money (there's no credible proof of withdrawals online).
  • Ad scale: Meta's ad library doesn't index it; TikTok's ad library only covers Europe.
  • Whether YS Culture Limited and Tera Link are the same team (the only evidence is the shared package name); reviews claim it's a gambling group driving traffic, unverified.
  • Whether Apple will pull it.
