> Videos under #liveearthcamera on TikTok popularized 'watch live cameras from around the world on your phone'. It spent nothing. Frequent updates, 9 languages and broad keywords caught search in the still-sparse iOS category, then it cashed in one-off curiosity traffic by cramming in interstitial ads.

# "Ten ads in 30 seconds": CamRoam brings the "watch live cameras worldwide" app that's been on Android for years to iPhone, and its ratings rose 2,568 in a week

**What it is** A free iPhone app that lets you tap global public live cameras on a map, with a GPS-watermark camera and compass on the side. It makes money from ads.

**Why it took off** TikTok videos under #liveearthcamera made "watch live cameras worldwide on your phone" popular. It spends nothing on acquisition. It catches search traffic by updating often, supporting 9 languages, and using broad keywords in the iOS category, which is still fairly empty. Then it turns one-time curiosity into money by stuffing in interstitial ads.

**C** **How you could follow it** Don't copy the live-camera idea itself. Copy its timing: watch TikTok for "use your phone to see XX" tags as they start to appear, and launch a clean version on iOS before anyone else does. Or build the GPS-watermark camera it bundles, a tool people actually pay for.

C grade: iOS already has a dozen-plus clones, and the ones that launched around 7–September have mostly gone nowhere. On Android it's an old category with tens of millions of installs. It wins on distribution and ad tactics. The product is replaceable, retention is weak, and Apple could pull it as spam. Worth studying the playbook, not worth following. Few people know about it yet

An iPhone free app with no in-app purchases, launched only two and a half months ago. Riding the hook "watch live cameras around the world on your phone," it gained 2,568 ratings in a week and sits on travel charts in 74 to 103 countries every day. There's nothing new here. The content is public webcams plus satellite imagery. The method is ad arbitrage that already worked on Android, and it caught a wave of #liveearthcamera TikToks. This piece covers how it took off, where the money comes from, and why most people should study it rather than copy it.

### One video, and one bad review

In 2026 Oct 7, US TikTok user @ashleyzapata_ posted a video captioned only "Live cameras all over the world," tagged #liveearthcamera #cctv, and by Nov 6 it had 170k views. Under the same tag, @jollyjillie in the Philippines (10-1.96M), @presh.wa.rowie in South Africa (10-27.1M, "The App that shows live anywhere"), and @isabelgrwm.oficial in Mexico (10-30.2M) posted nearly the same thing: a finger taps a 3D Earth and the view cuts to a live street corner in some city. Some were tagged #ad.

Not one of those videos mentions CamRoam. But in Oct 28, a US App Store user left it a 1-star review, titled:

> Should be called SpamRoam 10+ ads in less than a minute and didn't even see the app in action. Deleted it right away.

Over ten ads in one minute, and the review deleted the app before seeing any features. That's the whole business of CamRoam: TikTok spreads the curiosity about "watch live cameras worldwide," users search the App Store and install one of these apps, and opening it shows ads.

### What it is

CamRoam: Live Map & GPS, published 2026 Aug 20 by a Hong Kong company, HONG KONG WANHONG INTERNATIONAL LIMITED. Travel category, free, no in-app purchases at all (App Store page, 11-06). The first line of the store description is "The world is always moving. CamRoam brings it closer." The features fall into three groups:

- Live cameras: tap public cameras from around the world on the map and save your favorites.

- GPS watermark camera: stamps the map, address, latitude and longitude, and altitude onto your photos.

- Misc tools: 3D landmarks, a compass, local time, sun and moon info, and a "collect passport stamps" feature.

The last two groups have little to do with watching live video. Their job is to let the title read "Live Map & GPS," which catches more search terms. The final line of the description is a disclaimer: "Live feeds and location info may be delayed, inaccurate, or unavailable."

It shipped 5 updates in two and a half months, up to 1.4.0 (10-09), and supports 9 languages. The developer's other apps (blood pressure tracker, translator, QR scanner) have almost no ratings.

### How fast it's growing

Rating count is the closest public proxy for downloads (App Store, summed across countries):

| Date | Cumulative ratings | Added that day | Countries charted |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10-29 | About 5,600 | 147 | 82 |
| 11-01 | 6,657 | 315 | 94 |
| 11-04 | 7,282 | 348 | 74 |
| 11-06 | 8,751 | 755 | 90 |

+2,568 over the last 7 days. By country: US 2,815 (7 days +830, #32 on the free travel chart), India 1,530 (+720, #20 on the travel chart, #181 on the overall free chart), Vietnam 813 (#16 on the travel chart), then Canada, Brazil, and the UK (11-06). US average rating 4.0.

In the same category, second-place MAPAS gained +728 over these 7 days. CamRoam's gain is 3.5 times that.

### How the 4.0 rating came about

Among the most recent 50 US App Store reviews, more than half are 1 stars, and the complaints are nearly identical: "Ad hell," "Just call it an Ad viewer," "you get at least 8 ads before even starting to explore," "Can't get past ads for muse and Gemini." Others are more specific: "It's basically google earth and not live video," "couldn't even see my home live." The TikTok videos suggest you can watch live anywhere, even your own front door. In practice you get a curated set of public cameras.

The average still comes out to 4.0. The other half are 5 stars, with text like "Dios / Amor," "Owner / Good," "Uno / Seis," "Walter / The": two words in the title and body. One 1-star review says "l have to give the app one star in order to write this review," which shows the app has a popup prompting users to rate it. Many contentless 5-star ratings were most likely triggered by that popup, shown right after opening the app before the ads have worn people down (**inference** ). So if you read the rating growth as a download count, it will look inflated.

### Where users come from

**The category heat from TikTok, which it didn't pay for.** The #liveearthcamera tag isn't new this fall. On Jul 9, @tseringla5 alone had 900k views, and February and March also had videos with tens of thousands of views. But October was the peak, with posts from the US, Philippines, Brazil, South Africa, Mexico, and Vietnam. Most of the videos promote an app called "Live Earth Camera" (one says outright "The App is available on iOS and Android"), most likely the one from Romanian developer AI APPS SRL. It has 1.04M installs on Google Play, but its US iOS rating count is only 568 and has barely moved lately. Searching TikTok for "camroam" turns up none of its own content.

**App Store search, though not the most obvious term.** Using Apple's search API in the US store (11-06), CamRoam ranks #6 for "live map." For "live earth camera" and "live cameras," it's not in the top 25; the front page is older apps like AI APPS SRL, EarthCam, and Planet Cam. What it mainly picks up are broader terms like "live map" and "GPS," plus exposure from travel charts in 90 countries. Apple's API ranking doesn't perfectly match search results in the App Store app on a phone, so treat this as a reference only.

**Paid acquisition: not found, and not ruled out.** It doesn't appear in the public Meta or Google ad libraries, nor in TikTok ads in Europe. Apple Search Ads (ASA) isn't public. An app that earns only from ads and isn't at the top for its keywords gaining this much in a week most likely comes from ASA or cross-promotion through ad networks (**inference, not verified** ).

**Charting in many countries.** The bar for free travel charts is very low in small markets. In a place like Montserrat, a single rating can get you to #3. CamRoam sits on the charts in 74 to 103 countries daily, but most of its volume is still from the US, India, and Vietnam.

### Where the money comes from

Ads only. No IAP, no subscription, so it isn't on any country's Top Grossing chart. The privacy label says "Usage Data used to track you across apps" and "third-party advertising"; users report being blocked by Gemini and Muse ads, which are most likely from Google's AdMob (**inferred** ).

The model is simple: curiosity drives one-time traffic, every tap throws up an interstitial, and users who delete it three minutes later don't matter because the money is already made. Ad rates in India and Vietnam are low; the revenue mostly comes from a few thousand users in the US, Canada, and the UK. No actual downloads, revenue, or retention numbers are public.

### Who it's competing with

Everyone is running the same template, even the names look alike.

| App | Where | Launched | Scale | Last 7 days |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CamRoam | iOS | 2026-08 | 8,751 rating | +2,568 |
| MAPAS: Live Street View & GPS | iOS | 2017 | 11,721 rating | +728 |
| TerraCam: GPS Satellite | iOS | 2025-09 | 6,951 rating | +28 |
| Live Earth Camera(AI APPS SRL) | iOS / Android | 2025-03 | iOS US store 568; Play 1.04M installs | Barely moving |
| LiveCam: Live Earth Camera | iOS | 2025-01 | US store around 1,030 | +2 |
| Live Earth Map - World Map 3D | Android | 2020 | Play 32.9M installs | — |
| Live Cam Earth Map (Vietnam, GambiSoftVn) | Android | 2026-09-17 | Play 2.61M installs | — |

There's also a string of iOS clones that launched between 7 and September: LiveGlobe, Earth Lens, Live Earth Camera - GPS Map, Globe Hop, OrbiScope, GlobeRoam. Most are from companies in Hong Kong and Chengdu, each with tens to hundreds of ratings. Search "camroam" on the App Store and the second and third results are "Live Cam Earth Map" and "GlobeRoam."

On the other end are the clean, non-ad options: EarthCam, SkylineWebcams, and Windy, legitimate camera websites. TikTok also has people promoting worldeye.app (claims 74k public cameras) and a free iOS app called PlanetEar ("70k+ cameras, no login needed," listed in September, 43 ratings in the US store). The cleaner, bigger-catalog versions haven't taken off.

### Why it took off

1. **Validated on Android, empty space on iOS.** This category has tens of millions of installs at the top of Google Play and has been running for years. On iOS there are few competitors and they're rough, so porting it over leaves room.

2. **TikTok gave demand a free push.** Others ran creator campaigns and hashtags, and "watch the world live on your phone" became a topic. Store search picked up with it, and whoever ranked highest in the category and updated most often took the share.

3. **Distribution over product.** 5 versions in two and a half months, 9 languages, titles and descriptions stuffed with broad keywords, a rating prompt in the popup, and charting in 90 countries at once.

4. **Monetization without restraint.** One-time curiosity traffic, immediately converted to cash through interstitial ads.

Bottom line, it took off on timing and distribution, not because of the product.

### If it were you

**My take:** Worth studying, not worth copying. This category already has more than a dozen clones on iOS. The few launched between 7 and September almost none took off. The one that got volume relied on good ASO, probably paid ASA, aggressive ad placement, and it could be pulled by Apple as spam (4.3 rule) at any time.

**Who it suits:** Teams already running "port Android categories to iOS," who have a stack of AdMob ad units and an ASA account, and a template they can clone across ten apps. For you it's just another category. You could spend a week or two testing a throwaway version and bet that the TikTok wave lasts a while.

**Who it doesn't suit:** Indie devs who want to build a product users actually love. This category's users are there to watch, not to stick around or pay. PlanetEar, the clean one, has only 43 ratings, which shows quality doesn't win volume here.

**How to do it (if you still want to try):**

- Don't build the "live viewing" part itself. Build the adjacent niche: CamRoam's GPS watermark camera. Under "gps camera" in the US store, dedicated tools like GPS Map Camera with 8,000+ ratings are doing well. There's real demand from construction sites, inspections, delivery, and real estate photos, and people will pay to remove ads.

- Or watch TikTok for the next "watch XX with your phone" category tag (planes, ships, satellites, earthquakes) and ship a clean version when the buzz first starts, before anyone is on iOS. That time gap is what CamRoam exploits, and it's what you can learn from it.

- If you must show ads, don't put them in the first ten seconds. Half of the 1-star reviews say "got blocked by an ad before I could see any features."

**How to get users:** Skip creator deals. Search the category hashtags on TikTok, see which kinds of videos are rising this week, and check whether the apps they promote are actually missing on iOS. Write a title and subtitle with the broad terms users search for, launch localized store pages all at once, and test ASA on category keywords with a small budget.

**When to move:** #liveearthcamera videos peaked in October and were still being posted in early November. To catch this wave you need to be live before December. After the new year it will most likely be dead.

**Signs you're reading it wrong:** ① After January of 2027, CamRoam is still adding hundreds or more ratings a day. That means it's not a fad, it's a steady business. ② One of the clones listed between 7 and September, like OrbiScope or GlobeRoam, added over a thousand ratings a week before December. That means late entrants can still win, and the window to follow is still open. ③ CamRoam adds an IAP to remove ads, or starts showing up on Top Grossing charts. That means some of these users will pay, and a better version is worth building.

Where users come from

- Inferred **TikTok category creator wave (#liveearthcamera) spilling into store search** : from 2026-08 to November, a lot of #liveearthcamera #cctv videos, such as @phiaaabudolfinds at 490k views, @ashleyzapata_ at 170k, @presh.wa.rowie at 120k, some tagged #ad. They promote Live Earth Camera-type apps. CamRoam has no TikTok content of its own.

- **Verified** **App Store search / ASO** : the title is Live Map & GPS, the description is stuffed with live cameras / GPS photo / 3D / compass, in 9 languages, charting in 90+ countries' travel charts at once.

- Inferred **Paid acquisition (Meta/Google/TikTok)** : no records for metaads, googleads (no_ads), or tiktokads (Europe). ASA isn't public, so it can't be ruled out.

- Inferred **Rating prompt inflating scores** : recent reviews are almost all 1-star complaints about ads. The US average is still 4.0,5 stars, and most of the positive ones are contentless ("Good", "Ok", a person's name).

## CamRoam: Live Map & GPS (ios_6801191530) research report

Date: 2026-11-06 | Channel: iOS (Travel) | Developer: HONG KONG WANHONG INTERNATIONAL LIMITED (the same account also has BP Log, Seer Translator, and Seer QR, which have almost no ratings)

### One line

A free iOS app that combines public live camera feeds worldwide, 3D landmarks, and a "GPS watermark camera," earning money entirely through interstitial ads (no IAP). It takes the "Live Earth Map / Live Earth Cam" ad-arbitrage category that already worked on Google Play, ports it to iOS, and rides the category heat from the #liveearthcamera TikTok topic during 2026 8–November, taking the lead in the iOS category.

### 1. Data

- Listed on 2026-08-20, versions 1.0→1.4.0 (8/21, 8/27, 9/15, 9/24, 10/9), updated very often (App Store version history).

- Global rating count 5,790 (10-28) → 8,751 (11-06); daily additions rose from 147 to 755, +2,568 over the last 7 days; charting in 74–103 countries per day (appstore library app_day / data card).

- By country (appstore library app_profile, 11-06): US 2,815 ratings (+830 over 7 days, Travel free chart #32; Apple's page shows #24), India 1,530 (+720, Travel #20, overall free chart #181), Vietnam 813 (+138, #16), Canada 480, Brazil 391, UK 264. Small countries like Montserrat reaching Travel #3 reflect a low bar to entry, not real volume.

- US average rating 4.0 (iTunes lookup, 2,898 ratings).

- It has no Top Grossing position in any country, and the App Store page shows no IAP. **It doesn't rely on payments.** The privacy label says "Usage Data used to track you across apps" and "third-party advertising" (App Store page).

### 2. Competitors

iOS (appstore library; rating counts are totals across countries, 7-day increase = v7):

| Product | Developer | Launched | Scale | 7 days |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CamRoam | HONG KONG WANHONG | 2026-08 | 8,751 | +2,568 |
| MAPAS: Live Street View & GPS | SOAD HAMADEH | 2017 | 11,721 | +728 |
| TerraCam: GPS Satellite | Oanh Hoang (Vietnam) | 2025-09 | 6,951 | +28 |
| Live Satellite View & GPS Maps | Muhammad Asad Khan | 2024-12 | 2,948 | +53 |
| LiveCam: Live Earth Camera | FS COOL HOUSE | 2025-01 | 1,030 (US) | +2 |
| Live Earth Camera | AI APPS SRL | 2025-03 | 568 (US) | +1 |
| Live World: GPS Map | COMPASSMOBI | 2026-07 | 625 | +40 |
| LiveGlobe / OrbiScope / Live Earth Camera - GPS Map / GlobeRoam / Earth Lens / HaloVoyage / Globe Hop / World Vista | Mostly companies from Hong Kong and Chengdu | 2023–2026 | Dozens to hundreds each | Very few |

Over a dozen shops run the same template (even the names look alike: GlobeRoam and CamRoam, which shows up in CamRoam's "customers also bought" list). **CamRoam's 7-day install gain is 3.5 times that of the number two** .

- Google Play (googleplay library): This category is an old-school ad-arbitrage play. Live Earth Map - World Map (TarrySoft) 3D, 32.9M installs; Live Earth Map HD 30M; Earth Camera Live Street View 13.4M; Live Earth Camera (AI Apps SRL) 1.04M. Vietnam's GambiSoftVn Live Cam Earth Map just launched and is already at 2026-09-17 2.61M.

- Web / veterans: EarthCam (2.26M on Play), SkylineWebcams, Windy Webcams. Google Earth / Street View are free big-tech alternatives.

Compared to these: the content is the same (aggregated public webcams + satellite imagery). CamRoam piles on extra tools like "GPS watermark camera, compass, sun/moon info, passport stamps", which lets it cover more keywords in the store: Live Map, GPS, GPS Camera. The product experience isn't better: reviews complain about zoom and cameras overlapping so you can't see them clearly.

### 3. Where users come from

- **Category buzz on TikTok (there's evidence, but how much it actually drove is unverified)** : From 2026-08 to November, TikTok hashtags #liveearthcamera and #cctv were full of creator videos, concentrated in the Philippines, Brazil and the US, some tagged #ad. For example, @phiaaabudolfinds 490k views (10-09), @ashleyzapata_ 170k (10-07), @presh.wa.rowie 120k (10-27), @nefertiti061 100k (10-26), @alexkwillslay 20k (10-23, with #ad) (TikHub search). The videos promote an app called "Live Earth Camera", most likely the AI APPS SRL one (1.04M Play installs), but its iOS rating barely moved. Users who watched the videos searched "live earth camera / live cam" in the App Store, where CamRoam ranks highest in the category and updates most often, so it likely caught much of that search traffic. Searching "camroam" on TikTok turns up none of its own content.

- **Paid acquisition** : Nothing found in our Meta, Google or TikTok (Europe) ad libraries (googleads watch status is no_ads; metaads and tiktokads have no records). Apple Search Ads isn't public, so it can't be ruled out. Apps like this that only earn from ads often cross-promote via ASA or AdMob in the US, India and Vietnam. Unverified.

- **Store search, ASO** : Titled "Live Map & GPS", the description stuffs in live cameras, map, GPS photo, 3D landmarks and compass. It sits on travel free charts in several 90 countries, which points to broad keyword coverage rather than reliance on any single market.

- **How the rating came about** : Nearly all of the latest 60 reviews are complaints about ads ("10+ ads in less than a minute", "SpamRoam", "Gemini ads every 10 seconds"), yet the average still sits at 4.0. Many 5-star reviews are contentless "Good / Ok / Nice / name" posts, likely produced by the in-app rating prompt (inferred). So rating growth as a proxy for downloads will read high.

- Media, X, Reddit: x-radar returns 0 X posts for CamRoam. Online there are only aggregator pages like softonic, mwm.ai and scamadviser.

### 4. Where the money comes from

No in-app purchases, no subscriptions, not charting in Top Grossing. Revenue = interstitial, app-open and rewarded ads (users say they watched 10 ads before even finishing sign-up; the ads push Gemini and YouTube, Google ad slots, so it's most likely AdMob). eCPM from India and Vietnam users is very low; US, Canadian and UK users drive most ad revenue. The model: category buzz + cheap traffic → stuff ads into every open → users uninstall quickly and it doesn't matter.

### 5. Why it took off

1. The category has been proven on Android (tens of millions of installs at the top); on iOS supply is thin and quality poor, so porting it over meant an open slot.

2. It rode the 2026 autumn wave of TikTok creator videos under #liveearthcamera, which sparked curiosity and search demand for "watching live cameras around the world on your phone". CamRoam was the most frequently updated, broadest-keyword app in this category on iOS, so it caught the searches.

3. Monetization is very aggressive: no paid tier, an ad on nearly every tap, so even one-off curiosity traffic converts straight to cash.

4. It widens keywords with tools like GPS camera, landmarks and passport stamps, charting in several 90 countries at once.

### 6. Differentiation

There is essentially no differentiation: the content is public cameras + a map, and the competitors are the same template. The only edge is being better at iOS store distribution and ad monetization (frequent updates, 9 languages, keyword stacking, rating prompts), not the product itself. It worked through timing and distribution, not differentiation.

### 7. How many people know about it

Few people know about it yet: no public revenue figures, no X or media coverage, only app data sites index it. But copycats are already crowding in: OrbiScope (2026-09-17), Globe Hop (2026-09-15), Live Earth Camera - GPS Map (2026-08-24), Earth Lens (2026-08-13), plus GambiSoftVn on Play (2026-09-173M), all launched in the same period with the same formula.

### 8. Takeaways

- An arbitrage window of "ad-arbitrage category already proven on Android → ported to iOS".

- Watch for creator waves on TikTok around a category hashtag, skip paying creators yourself, and ship a same-category app to capture the store search.

- Use tool features to widen keywords, and multi-language coverage across 90 countries, for a low-barrier chart play.

- Risks: the ad experience is awful and reviews are overwhelmingly negative, Apple may pull it for 4.3 (spam) or ad-policy violations, and retention is likely very poor.

### 9. Uncertain

- Whether it runs Apple Search Ads or AdMob cross-promotion is unknown.

- Who is funding the #liveearthcamera wave on TikTok (it looks like AI APPS SRL's Live Earth Camera, though several parties may be co-funding), and how much traffic it actually sent to CamRoam, are both unverified.

- No actual download, ad revenue or retention data; the rating may be inflated by the prompt.
