16 ratings, #1 on the Taiwan Top Paid chart: a Korean office worker's "When Did I Last" got there on one Apple Taiwan feature
What it is An iPhone widget that doesn't list to-dos. It just records when you last did a given thing and shows how many days have passed. One-time purchase of about $3.
Why it took off Apple Taiwan featured it twice in the App Store, at the end of September and end of October, and a handful of purchases in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Japan was enough to reach the top 10 of the paid productivity charts. Its Traditional Chinese, Japanese and Korean are native-quality, it updates weekly, and the one-time price is low, which fits an editor's taste.
CHow you could follow it Don't build the same app. Learn the playbook: pick a small scenario the system doesn't handle natively, make it clean, sell it as a one-time purchase, have native speakers polish the Traditional Chinese, Japanese and Korean, write store titles around local search terms, push onto small-country paid charts and apply for Apple features, then raise the price once you're charting.

A small tool a Korean developer built after work: no to-do list, just "the last day you did this thing," showing how many days have passed. It launched in August, has only 16 ratings worldwide, yet at the end of September it hit #1 on Taiwan's App Store overall Top Paid chart, and from late October into early November it held #1 on Taiwan's Top Paid Productivity chart. Apps like this have existed for 2012 years, and 2026 saw more than 30 new ones. It broke out not because it had new features, but because it suits Apple Taiwan editors' taste, and in regions like Taiwan, Hong Kong and Japan, a few purchases can put you in the top 10 of the paid charts. Below: what it is, where the volume came from, how much it could earn, and which parts are worth copying.
Built by one person, updated after work
In November 5, the developer posted an apology on his own Threads account, @when.did.i: updates had been slow because he worked during the day and took on a research project, so he was building the app after hours while still learning. "I'm really sorry, I won't miss any of your feedback." Around the same time he posted again: "Is my exposure dead? I want feedback, but there are no reviews or DMs anywhere."
The account has 332 followers, and the English account @when.did.i.en has 71. He is HyunWoo Lee. The store developer name is a sole proprietorship, Aslla Soft, and this is its only app.
App 在韩国叫「언제했지」(我什么时候做的),英文叫 When'd I,台湾区叫「上次是什麼時候 - 家事·保養紀錄」。商店页第一句是:
Stop managing to-dos. Just remember when you last did it.
The examples in the listing are "When did I last wash the sheets?", "When did I last change the filter?" and "When did I last call my parents?" There are no goals, no nagging notifications, no checkboxes. One tap records it as today. Each item shows "N days since last," and the spacing between dots on the timeline is the real time between entries: dense when you're busy, a blank stretch when you've neglected something for months. Each entry can carry a photo and a line of text, and monthly and yearly recaps can be exported as images to share.
One-time purchase: ₩4,400 / NT$90 / $2.99 at launch, with no in-app purchases, no subscription, no ads, no account. Data stays on the phone and can sync through Google Drive. It launched on the App Store in August 20 (Google Play came first, on August 15). By November 2 it was at version 5.1.0, with a release roughly every week, and it supports 15 languages.
September 25: Apple Taiwan featured it
For the first month it barely moved. The turn came at the end of September (the early timeline below comes from the third-party chart site AppInsider):
- 9-24: first appeared on Taiwan's overall Top Paid chart at #8; Korea's overall Top Paid at #94.
- 9-25 to 9-30: Apple Taiwan's App Store "Apps" tab featured it for six days straight.
- 9-27: #1 on Taiwan's overall Top Paid chart, and the same day #1 on Japan's Top Paid Productivity chart; Australia, Canada, Indonesia and Thailand's Top Paid Productivity charts placed it in the top 10.
- 10-12: the Taiwan listing was renamed, adding "家事·保養紀錄" (household & maintenance log) after the title, packing in two terms Taiwanese users search for.
- 10-31 to 11-04: Apple Taiwan's second round of features. On 10-31 it reached #2 on Taiwan's overall Top Paid chart.
9-24, before the feature, it was already at #8 on Taiwan's overall Top Paid chart. I couldn't find who first pushed it. 9-27 one Taiwanese five-star review reads "saw it on Threads and downloaded right away" and says "logging when I changed contact lenses, or other routine things, is really useful, goldfish brain saved". I infer a Taiwanese Threads post kicked off the first wave, but I couldn't find the original post.
Daily chart positions from 28 to 6:
| Store | Overall paid chart | Paid Productivity chart | Score |
|---|---|---|---|
| Taiwan | 10-31 at #2, then 7→11→13→31,11-06 at #63 | 10-30 to 11-06, #1 every day | 7 |
| South Korea | Between #70 and #159, 11-06 dropped out of the top 200 | Rank 4 to 9, 11-06 20 | 9 |
| Hong Kong | 10-31 #99 | 10-31 #5,11-05 #183 | 0 |
| Singapore | 11-02 #146 | 11-02 #5,11-05 #18 | 0 |
| Japan | — | 10-30 at #28, then down to #126 | 0 |
| US and others | — | Between #10 and #100+ | US store: 1 ratings (1 stars) |
16 ratings worldwide. Reaching #1 on Taiwan's Top Paid Productivity chart didn't require many buyers.
On Android, volume is basically nil: as of 11-06, Google Play shows 163 cumulative installs. From late September to mid-October it hit the top 100 of the paid productivity charts in the UAE, Indonesia, Mexico and Vietnam stores (their paid charts have a lower bar), then 11-02 fell off every chart.
How much it could earn
Revenue isn't public. AppInsider estimates its global downloads at "100+ per day" (a rough tier). Assuming a few dozen to over a hundred paid downloads a day at #1 on Taiwan's overall Top Paid chart, at $2–3 each, peak monthly revenue would be in the low thousands of dollars (inferred, unverified). Once the feature ended, volume dropped: by 11-06 it was at #63 on Taiwan's overall Top Paid chart, and it had fallen off Korea's overall chart.
One detail that also eats into revenue: on November 4 he wrote on Threads, "just found out there's a Family Sharing feature that was turned on." For a one-time-purchase app with Family Sharing on, one buyer means the whole family can use it.
Raising the price after charting
From November 2 to 3, while the second round of features was still running, he raised prices in every store:
| Store | Original price | 11-06 |
|---|---|---|
| South Korea | ₩4,400 | ₩7,700 (6,600 on the middle day) |
| Taiwan | NT$90 | NT$120 |
| Hong Kong | HK$22 | HK$32 |
| Japan | ¥500 | ¥840 (¥600 on the middle day) |
| US | $2.99 | $3.99 |
Increases of 33% to 75%. After the increase, Taiwan's overall Top Paid position dropped from 13 to 63 and Korea fell off the overall chart, but the feature also ended at 11-04, so the two effects are hard to separate.
Who it's competing with
This category is old and crowded. Searching the App Store for "last time / days since / 上次 / 언제했지 / いつやった" turns up 100+ apps. Between August and November of 2026 years, 30+ new ones launched, mostly in English with a free-plus-in-app-purchase model, and none targeting Asian languages.
| Product | Launched | Scale | Compared with alternatives |
|---|---|---|---|
| Last Time Tracker(lasttimeapp.com) | 2012-06 | 2,567 ratings in Japan, 636 in the US, 565 in Germany; priced at $5.99–9.99 | The category pioneer, nearly identical features. Twice the price, dated design. |
| Days Since: Quit Habit Tracker | 2019 | 19,675 ratings in the US, free | Focused on "days since quitting smoking/alcohol", different direction |
| When Did I…? | 2019 | 89 ratings in the US, $4.99 | Also a one-time purchase, but English only and rarely updated |
| いつやった? / さいごはいつ? / アレから | 2018–2025 | A few to a dozen ratings in Japan, free | Free Japanese local competitor |
| 언제했지: 마지막 날짜 기록 | 2026-08-22 | 3 ratings in Korea | Only 2 days later, almost the same name. Looks more like a name collision. |
| When was the last time? Cleaning and replacement log, last change LastTime | 2026-09, 10 | 0 ratings | The name spelling is very close to it. Impossible to confirm whether it was made in response to it. |
Neither Apple nor Google has a native "N days since last time" feature. You can only make do with Reminders and Calendar, which is why this category keeps getting built and keeps getting bought.
Compared with Last Time Tracker, its core features are not very different. What sets it apart is three things: Traditional Chinese, Japanese, and Korean that read like they were written by locals; a clean interface; and a price half as high. These three things earned it a recommendation from Apple's Taiwan editors, but the volume comes from editorial picks and low-barrier paid charts, not from users spreading it on their own.
Why users buy it
Reviews keep repeating three things: it's simple (one tap to log), there's no pressure (it's not a to-do list, so missing something doesn't cause guilt), and you can look back (photos and a timeline). One Korean user said they're a "record maniac", and that logging too much made them forget "what I should do and when I last did it"; this app "solves it with a light tap". A Taiwanese user 11-04 commented that iCloud couldn't sync across devices, and only switching to Google Drive worked.
The developer personally replies to comments on Threads, shows off chart climbs, and responds to bad reviews. One 2-star user complained the black-and-white look was too plain, so he made 11 color schemes and "gave them to you". He doesn't have many followers, but it counts for a lot with Asian users.
The five-star reviews in the Korean store from around September to early October read like heavy promotion, similar to people in Korean developer circles downloading and writing praise for each other. There's no direct evidence.
If it were you
C: This playbook is worth learning, but building another "N days since last time" app by copying it isn't worth it. The category already has 100+ competitors, and 2026 years on it's still adding nearly 10 a month. Its own volume came from two rounds of Taiwan App Store recommendations. When the recommendations stopped, it dropped off the charts. At peak, the estimate is only a few thousand dollars a month.
Who it suits: a solo developer making iOS utilities, whose native language or second language is Traditional Chinese, Japanese, or Korean, who is willing to do a one-time purchase rather than a subscription, and who treats this as a practice project for learning how to earn Apple's small-storefront recommendations. Or someone who already has a clean small tool and just hasn't localized it for Asian markets.
Who it doesn't suit: anyone hoping to build steady income from this category; anyone who only does English and plans to compete in the US store against Last Time Tracker and 30+ new competitors; anyone unwilling to update weekly or to promote themselves on social platforms.
How to do it: learn the playbook, not this app. Pick a small scenario that Apple and Google don't natively cover but that everyone needs (the common trait of this type of tool is "the system's built-in option works, but it's clunky"). Make it clean, with no accounts, as a one-time purchase. Have native speakers review the Traditional Chinese, Japanese, and Korean, and write store titles using the words locals would actually search (this app added "家事·保養紀錄" in its Taiwan listing). Ship a version every week with clear release notes, since those are what editors read. At launch, set a low price ($2.99 tier) to climb the paid charts, then raise it once you've earned recommendations and your ranking is stable. Remember to check whether Family Sharing should be enabled.
How to get users: Apple editorial recommendations are the main source. Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Japan are easier to get than the US store. After launch, submit through the recommendation request form in App Store Connect and clearly describe what you localized. The paid productivity charts in small storefronts have a very low threshold, and a few purchases can put you in the top 10, and being charted is itself exposure. The developer posts on Threads (many Korean and Taiwanese users are there), sharing daily development, chart screenshots, and turning bad reviews into "updates made for you". But don't expect it to bring in volume on its own. This developer has 400 followers and keeps asking whether exposure is dead.
When to move: this playbook has no clear window, but competitors increase every month, and more people are doing good Asian-language localization. The earlier you claim the localized name for a small scenario, the better.
Signs you've read it wrong: ① After the When'd I recommendation ends, it stays in the top 5 of the Taiwan paid productivity chart for a long time and its rating count climbs into the dozens or hundreds. That would mean it isn't just relying on recommendations and the product is spreading on its own, and in that case this category is worth more than C. ② Conversely, if within the next month you find several competitors that also did thorough Traditional Chinese, Japanese, and Korean work and also received Taiwan recommendations, that means many people are already on this path and editorial recommendations will get harder and harder to win.

One line
A one-person, one-time-purchase utility from Korea (HyunWoo Lee, sole proprietor Aslla Soft). It has no to-dos or checkboxes. One tap records "done today", it shows "N days since", and the spacing between dots on the timeline reflects the actual elapsed time. Verdict
It didn't rise because of any exclusive capability. "N days since last time" is a category that has existed for 2012 years and that dozens of indie developers have repeatedly built over 2026 years. Its climb to the top of small-market paid charts came from three things stacked together:
- Apple Taiwan editorial recommendation (the main driver): AppInsider records it being recommended on the Taiwan App Store Apps tab starting 2026-09-25, then 9-25, 9-26, 9-27, 9-28, 9-29, and 9-30,10-31 through 11-04 again. On 9-27 it hit #1 on the Taiwan overall paid chart and #1 on the Japan paid productivity chart.
- Low threshold for paid charts: the Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Japan paid productivity charts let a few purchases put you in the top 10. Worldwide it has only 16 ratings (kr 9, tw 7; us 1 ratings, 1 stars), yet it stayed at #1 on the Taiwan paid productivity chart for over a month.
- Developer-run with very fast updates: in 2.5 months it went from 1.x to 5.1.0 (AppInsider labels it "updated weekly"), localized into 15 languages, and the one developer posts and replies to comments on Threads, publicly responding to bad reviews (making 11 color schemes "for" the 2-star user who found the black-and-white look too plain).

Earlier (AppInsider timeline, appinsider.io/apps/when-d-i-6801866888):
- 2026-08-15 launched on Google Play first, App Store 08-20; nothing moved through mid-September.
- 09-24: Taiwan Top Paid overall #8, Korea Top Paid overall #94 (first time it was caught charting), with no Apple featuring yet.
- From 09-25 it was featured by Apple Taiwan; 09-27 Taiwan Top Paid overall #1 + Japan Top Paid Productivity #1, and Australia, Canada, Indonesia and Thailand Top Paid Productivity reached the top #10.
- 10-12 Malaysia Top Paid Productivity reached the top #10; the Taiwan listing was renamed "上次是什麼時候 - 家事·保養紀錄" (adding the search terms for housework and maintenance).
- 10-31 to 11-04 it was featured by Taiwan again; 11-03 prices went up across all stores.
- AppInsider estimates global downloads at "100+ per day" (a tier, taking the lower bound).
Google Play (googleplay library, 11-06): com.asllasoft.when_did_i, only 163 installs in total. AppInsider logged it in the Top Paid Productivity top 100 in the UAE, Indonesia, India, Mexico, Thailand, Vietnam, the Netherlands and Turkey between 9-28 and 10-13 (the bar for small-country paid charts is very low), and it dropped off all charts by 11-02. Android has barely any traffic.
2. Competitors
This category is old and crowded. Searching the appstore library for "last time / days since / 上次 / 언제했지 / いつやった" turns up 100+ apps, with 2026 alone 8–November launching 30+ of them.
| Product | Platform | Launched | Scale | How it differs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Last Time Tracker(Sarun Wongpatcharapakorn,lasttimeapp.com) | iOS | 2012-06 | The category's originator. jp 2,567 ratings (Top Paid Productivity #10), us 636, de 565; sells for $5.99–9.99 in each store; covered by Lifehacker and AppAdvice. | Features are very similar (folders, history, overdue grouping), but priced twice as high with an older design. When'd I wins on price, localization, a "time spacing" timeline, and photo logs. |
| Days Since: Quit Habit Tracker | iOS | 2019 | 19,675 ratings in the US, free | Built around "days since quitting" for quitting smoking or drinking, free with in-app purchases. Different focus. |
| When Did I…?(Heidi Pilypas) | iOS | 2019 | 89 ratings in the US, $4.99 | Same one-time purchase, English only, infrequent updates. |
| 언제했지-청소 스케줄 관리(Seoyoung Joung) | iOS | 2025-08 | 6 ratings in Korea, free | Same name, only tracks cleaning cycles |
| いつやった? (Seiya Mogami) / さいごはいつ? / アレから | iOS | 2018 / 2025 | A few to a dozen ratings in Japan, free | A local Japanese equivalent, free, with no multi-language support. |

| Swap It (該換了吧) | iOS (Hong Kong) | 2026 | Not verified | Manages replacement cycles and inventory for household goods, leaning more toward "time to replace it" reminders. |
| TimeJot, DoneAgo, and others. | Android | — | Small | Android alternatives often recommended on Reddit. |
| Big-company features | Big-company features | — | — | Neither Apple nor Google has a native "N days since last time" feature, so people make do with Reminders and Calendar. That's why this category keeps getting new entrants. |
Is someone copying it?:
- Korea's "언제했지: 마지막 날짜 기록" (yong heo, 2026-08-22): launched 2 days after it, with an almost identical name and kr 3 ratings. Only 2 days later, it looks more like a name collision than copying.
- Japan's "前回いつ? - 掃除・交換の記録" (DOTNULL, 2026-09-22) and Taiwan's "上次換 LastTime" (記得存檔有限公司, 2026-10-03) both launched around the time it was charting in Taiwan and Japan. Their names follow the same "last time… + housework/maintenance" pattern, and both have 0 ratings. Whether they were aimed at it can't be confirmed.
- Overall, this looks like a category filling up (vibe-coded small tools), not a targeted copy.
3. Where users come from
| Channel | Evidence | Confirmed |
|---|---|---|
| Featured by Apple Taiwan editors | AppInsider logs it as "featured by Apple · apps · TW": 9-25 to 9-30 in a row, then another round from 10-31 to 11-04. The timing lines up with its climb to #1–3 on Taiwan's Top Paid overall chart. | Yes |
| Threads (run by the developer) | Korean account @when.did.i (332 followers), English account @when.did.i.en (71 followers). They post the developer's daily life, chart wins, and replies to bad reviews. A Taiwanese user 9-27 commented: "Saw it on a thread and downloaded it right away" | Yes (small volume; I couldn't find who posted the Taiwan thread). |
| Store search / localized keywords | 15 种语言,台湾区标题 10-12 改成"上次是什麼時候 - 家事·保養紀錄",韩区副标题"마지막으로 한 날",日区"いつだったっけ" | Yes (effect not quantified). |
| A search result shows an r/ProductivityApps post titled "I built a simple app to track when you last did…" (1splk0o). Reddit blocks scraping, so I can't confirm whether it was posted by this developer. | No | |
| Early reviews in Korea | Between 9-08 and 10-01, the Korean store got 7 long five-star reviews. The wording is very "recommendation-style" (parenting, lazy, minimalist), which looks like friends, a review group, or the Korean developer circle's "앱 품앗이" (mutual downloads and mutual reviews). There's no direct evidence. | No |
| Paid acquisition | No ads found. Unit price $3–4 with 16 ratings in total; paid acquisition would never pay back. | No (inferred, not bought). |
| Media / big X accounts | x-radar: 90 posts in the last 0 days; no press coverage found. | None |
4. Why users stay and why they pay
- The reviews keep saying the same three things: simple (one tap and it's logged), no pressure (it's not a to-do list, so you don't feel guilty when you miss something), and you can look back (photos, timeline). One Taiwan review puts the use case best: "Logged when I changed my contact lenses... my goldfish brain is saved."
- One-time purchase, no account, no servers, priced half as much as the veteran Last Time Tracker. That makes it an easy buy in paying markets like Taiwan and Korea.
- The developer publicly replies to bad reviews on Threads, offering things like "we made 11 color themes for you". That goes over well with Asian users.
- No retention data; with 16 ratings in total, retention can't be estimated.
5. Differentiation, and whether that's why it took off
The product differences you can point to are these:
- The "not a to-do app" positioning is well written (No goals, no nagging);
- On the timeline, the spacing between dots = the real time interval.
- Each record gets a photo + a one-liner, and you can export it as a Polaroid-style image to share;
- Monthly and yearly Recap cards;
- Google Drive sync;
- 15 languages, with Traditional Chinese, Japanese and Korean done really natively.
Compared with Last Time Tracker, the core features don't differ much. What really sets it apart is "native-quality Asian languages + clean design + low price", which is what it takes to get featured by Apple's Taiwan editors. So: differentiation is the prerequisite for being recommended, but the volume comes from the low bar for featuring and the Top Paid chart, not from the differentiation itself getting users to spread it.
6. How many people have seen it so far
- Revenue isn't public and it's not on TrustMRR; no media has written about it; there's not a single post about it on X; the developer's two Threads accounts together have about 400 followers.
- Only automated data sites like AppInsider and IndieTower have listed it.
- Bottom line: hardly anyone knows about it yet. But the category itself has been crowded for 2026 years (30+ new competitors).
7. What others can learn
- Go after Apple's editorial featuring in small storefronts: native-quality Traditional Chinese, Japanese and Korean localization + clean design + one-time purchase with no subscription. Featuring is easier to win in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Japan than in the US store, and once it lands, the Top Paid overall chart can reach the top few.
- Cheap launch, then raise prices after charting: launch at ₩4,400 / $2.99 to chase the charts, then raise prices by 33–75% across all storefronts during the second featuring round (Korea ₩4,400 → 7,700). After the increase, Taiwan's Top Paid overall rank went 13 → 63 and Korea dropped off the overall chart, but the featuring ended at the same time, so the two causes can't be separated.
- Adjust the store title to each storefront's search habits: the Taiwan store adds "家事·保養紀錄" (household & maintenance records).
- The developer posts on Threads personally, turning bad reviews into content.
8. Still unclear
- 9-24 Before the featuring, Taiwan had already reached #8 on the Top Paid overall chart. Who pushed it first (a viral Taiwanese Threads post?) is unknown; the original post wasn't found.
- Whether the early batch of five-star Korean reviews came from friends or mutual reviewing.
- Whether those Reddit posts were written by the developer.
- Actual revenue: at #1 on the Taiwan Top Paid overall chart, it's roughly a few dozen to over a hundred downloads a day; AppInsider estimates 100+ downloads a day. Total revenue, by inference, is on the order of a few thousand USD per month. Not verified.
- Whether the drop off the chart after the price increase was caused by the end of featuring or by the price increase.
