> A delisted old brand was relisted under a new shell company. Template five-star reviews and 5-star ratings with only a name filled in pushed its score up to 4.8. It sat in the top 30 of finance charts to pick up store search traffic, and the money came from extortion-style collections, short cycles and aggressive loan terms.

# Borrow 3000, receive 2280, repay 3290 in a week: how Mexican loan app Préstala got its 4.8 rating

**What it is.** A Mexican online micro cash-loan app. The store page says 91–120 days and 23.5% APR, but users say they actually receive only 75% of the loan and have to repay within a week.

**Why it took off** A delisted old brand relaunched under a new shell company, used template five-star reviews and 5-star reviews with only a name to hold its rating at 4.8, and sat in the top 30 of the finance charts on App Store search traffic. Money is collected through upfront fee deductions, short cycles, and intimidating collections.

**E** **How you could follow it.** Don't. The only thing worth taking away is the understanding: in finance apps, ratings have a huge impact on conversion, and fake-rating shells have fingerprints you can spot at a glance. If you really want to do Mexican lending, take the legitimate route Kueski takes: licensed, with transparent terms.

Grade E: it requires a lending license, capital and a collections team, its cash comes from upfront deductions and threats, it breaks the law and Apple's rules, and it can be pulled at any time. Dozens of identical shells already exist, and the product itself has no differentiation. Chatter in niche circles.

Préstala was listed on October 1 and within a month was in the top 30 of the Mexico App Store Finance Top Free chart, with a 4.8 rating. But the bad reviews are all about upfront deductions, one-week repayment and threatening phone calls. It didn't blow up because the product is good. It's the predatory "montadeudas" cash loan model Mexicans know well, put back up under a new shell. Below I explain how it got going, where the money comes from, how many identical ones are out there, and why I wouldn't recommend following it.

### An October 23 bad review

On 2026 Oct 23, a user in Mexico gave Préstala a one-star review on the App Store, titled "Pésima app no la descarguen" (Terrible app, don't download it):

> Según te prestan $3000 pero te depositan $2280. Ah pero si, el interés lo toman a monto completo y piden que devuelva $3290.

It says it lends you 3000 pesos, but only 2280 hits your account; the interest is calculated on 3000, and you're asked to repay 3290. The day before, another user wrote something shorter: "I borrowed 3000, only 2280 arrived, and they give you one week to pay. Pure scam."

The store page for the same app says: loan amounts from 500 to 80,000 pesos, terms of 91 to 120 days, daily rate 0.07%, max APR 23.5%, and CAT 31.5%. These numbers were chosen precisely: Apple's review guideline 3.2.2(ix) says personal loan apps can't have an APR above 36% and can't require full repayment within 60 days. The store page sits just inside those limits, while what users actually experience is something else entirely.

### What it is

A Mexican online micro cash-loan app, listed only in the Mexico store. The developer is Integra 08, S.A.P.I. de C.V., SOFOM, E.N.R., which has only this one app under its name, and the version has stayed at 1.0.0 since launch.

SOFOM E.N.R. is a Mexican "unregulated multiple-purpose financial company." You only need to register with the consumer protection agency CONDUSEF to set one up, and it isn't supervised by the banking regulator CNBV. The low bar makes it the most common shell for this kind of app.

### How fast it grew

Based on the public rating counts in the App Store Mexico store:

| Date | Total ratings | Added that day |
|---|---|---|
| 10-28 | 3,732 | — |
| 10-30 | 4,072 | 246 |
| 11-03 | 4,713 | 161 |
| 11-06 | 5,203 | 202 |

It added 1,471 ratings in 9 days, and 1,131 in the last 7 days. On the charts, it sat between #18 and #29 on the Finance Top Free chart, with 11-03 as its best at #18; on the overall Top Free chart it sat between #151 and #196.

But this curve can't be used directly to estimate downloads, for the reason in the next section.

### The 4.8 rating is maintained

Of the 443 reviews we could pull, 369 are 5-star and 39 are 1-star, with almost nothing in between. The 1-star reviews are real and specific; the 5-star ones fall into two suspicious groups.

**The first kind is machine-assembled templates.** 38 reviews (8.6%) follow the same "opening + middle + closing" structure, such as "La verdad es que todo fue rapidísimo, desde la app hasta el depósito. Muy satisfecho con todo." (Honestly, everything from the app to the deposit was super fast. Very happy with everything.) One review broke the template and gave itself away: "Te la recomiendo porque recomiendo esta app porque es seria y responsable." (I recommend it because I recommend this app because it's trustworthy and responsible.) That same closing pattern appears at most 7 times under other apps.

**The second kind is 5-star reviews with only a name:** "Alonso soto / Alonso soto", "Luis / Luis Gustavo", "Todo bien / Todo bien" (11-04). My guess is the app forces or nudges users to rate it, for example by only releasing the loan or raising the limit after they rate, or the reviews come from alt accounts.

In finance, whether users tap download depends largely on the rating. Holding the score at 4.8 secures conversion from store search.

### Where the money comes from

The terms on the store page are there to show Apple. Based on what users say in the reviews, here's what actually happens:

- **Upfront deduction:** borrow 3000 and 2280 arrives, borrow 1500 and 1100 arrives (10-25, 11-01), borrow 500 and 380 arrives (10-29). Some say they borrowed 500 and only 350 arrived (10-30). What you actually get is about 75% of the loan amount.

- **Short cycle:** "only one week," and some say "they start calling on day 3" or "they collect after 5 days." 10-27 one review says the app clearly states 30 days.

- **Funds released without consent:** "The money arrived before I even accepted the terms" (10-23, 10-25, 10-29, 11-03).

- **Collections:** calling contacts in your phone book, threatening to post your ID photos and the pictures on your phone on social media. Some say they received death threats (10-22, 10-29), and others were threatened with nude photos being leaked (11-02).

- **Data resold:** "Even after you pay it all back, other loan apps keep calling and say you borrowed from them too." (11-01)

Based on "get 2280, repay 7 days later with 3290," the weekly rate is about 44%, which annualizes to thousands of percentage points (my estimate, based only on what users say). The model's math: deduct upfront, keep the cycle short, recover principal on the first payment; suppress bad debt through intimidation; release funds without consent to inflate lending volume.

### This name has been around before

The brand "Préstala" didn't just appear in October.

- The App Store once had a "Préstala - crédito y préstamo" run by a different SOFOM, Grupo Golconda Guerrero, with almost identical terms (500–90,000, 91–120 days, 23.5%). When I opened the page on 11-06 it showed 404, meaning it had been delisted.

- In the montadeudas list published by the Mexican civic group Consejo Ciudadano in 2026-08-25, PRESTALA ranked #271 with 21 complaints, and on Google Play it's marked as "removed."

- The TikTok consumer-rights account @ayudamontadeudas posted a breakdown in 2026-05-02 titled "Prestala: exposing the illegal montadeudas app" with about 28k views; @josueg19s posted "Préstala préstamos: 'regulated' but the collections are brutal" in 10-18, with about 5,300 views.

My inference (strong evidence, but the relationship between the two shells is unverified): after the old listing was pulled and its reputation collapsed, the operator set up a new SOFOM shell, relisted under the same brand name, and caught the old users still searching for it. This is a standard move in the industry, and it violates Apple's rules.

### Who it's competing with

It's just one of many copycats. In the Finance category of the Mexico App Store, there are about 60 apps with lending terms in their name or developer name. Most are SOFOM E.N.R. companies listed in the past 2025–2026 years, each developer has only one app, and the descriptions all use the same "91–120 days / 23.5%" language. Ranked by new ratings in the last 7 days (11-06):

| App | Launched | Total ratings | New ratings over 7 days | Finance chart |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| MexDinero | 2026-08-16 | 14,085 | 1,461 | 30 |
| TakeDefi Capital | 2026-06-29 | 11,351 | 1,209 | 52 |
| Préstala | 2026-10-01 | 5,203 | 1,131 | 26 |
| Grosel Financiero | 2026-06-01 | 14,825 | 1,014 | 76 |
| CashMex | 2024-12-31 | 39,771 | 1,010 | 32 |
| MorhPlata | 2026-10-02 | 3,664 | 777 | 45 |
| MoneyMex | 2026-10-28 | 738 | 730 | 27 |

In the last 30 days alone, several more appeared: MoneyMex (10-28), KrediYa (10-14), and Sí Presta (10-15).

The legit players are a different story. Kueski (launched 2020 years ago, #22 in Finance) added just 222 ratings this past week, with an average review score of 2.9. Préstala added 1,131 ratings this week, averaging 4.5. The brands with real reputations, transparent terms, and spots on regulator-endorsed lists actually score lower, which tells you something. Higher up are Klar and Stori, credit cards and digital banks, plus the big players like Mercado Pago, DiDi, and Nu, where lending is just one feature in a broader ecosystem and customer acquisition costs next to nothing.

### So how does it actually work?

- **The demand is real** : Mexico has a huge population outside the banking system. People who need cash fast, for a few hundred or a few thousand pesos, get turned down by regulated fintechs, and these apps are the only option left.

- **An industrialized launch process** : register a SOFOM shell company, write the store page to Apple's rules, embed "Préstamos" in the name to capture the biggest search term, inflate ratings, and when an app gets pulled, swap the shell and relaunch.

- **The financial backing** : the licensed shell, the lending capital, and the collections team.

- Whether they buy ads, and where, can't be verified from outside. The Mexican watchdog list says about 19% of montadeudas apps advertise on Facebook, Instagram, or email (we haven't verified that Préstala itself spends on ads).

The product itself has no differentiation. It's one of dozens of shells built on the same template, distinguished only by the name.

### If it were you

**Bottom line: stay away.** This isn't a product opportunity. It's a business that requires a license and capital, and it collects debt through threats and public shaming. In Mexico it's a target of exposés and complaints. It violates Apple's review guidelines and could be pulled at any time, and there are already dozens of identical shells.

**Who it suits** : no small team should chase this business. If you're local to Mexico, understand compliant lending, and have capital, the path to study is the legitimate one Kueski and Baubap take, not this app.

**Who it doesn't suit** : every indie dev and small team. You can't get lending capital or collections capability, and you shouldn't try.

**How to do it** : there are only two things to take away. First, in finance, a category that runs on trust, ratings hit store conversion hard, and rivals are all maintaining theirs. Second, template reviews leave a fingerprint: the same phrasing, a bare name with 5 stars, a developer with only one app, and a rating that jumps within 90 days of launch. When you see those together, you can usually spot a rating-farm shell. There's also a small opportunity worth considering (inferred, demand not verified): a tool that helps Mexican users check whether a loan app is registered and whether it's been blacklisted. Consumer-rights content already has a ready audience on TikTok, but whether this kind of tool can make money is hard to say.

**How to acquire users** : not applicable.

**When to move** : not applicable. If you build the lookup tool above, there's no rush. The montadeudas problem has been around for years.

**What would mean we're wrong** : (1) Préstala is still listed six months from now, and its new 5-star reviews include many genuine accounts of specific borrowing experiences, suggesting it's actually moving toward legitimacy. (2) Apple pulls this batch of SOFOM shells in bulk from the Mexican store, and someone then succeeds with transparent-terms, compliant-collections microloans, showing there's a "clean" niche, though it still requires a license and capital.

Where users come from

- **Verified** : **review farming / incentivized 5-star ratings** . Of 443 reviews, 38 follow a machine-stitched template (an opener + a middle + a closer, e.g. "…Muy satisfecho con todo." and "Te la recomiendo porque recomiendo esta app porque…"), a pattern almost no other App in the database shows. There are also plenty of 5-star reviews that only contain a name (appstore.review).

- Inferred **Relaunching an established brand under a new shell** : the old Préstala (id6751937296, Grupo Golconda Guerrero SOFOM, identical terms) is now 404. The montadeudas list shows PRESTALA was pulled from Google Play. 10-01 the new shell Integra 08 launched under the same name.

- Inferred **Store search keyword** : the name directly includes "Préstamos". The same naming pattern appears across this batch of shells.

- Inferred **Paid acquisition on Meta and other channels** : our ad library doesn't cover Mexican lending. Consejo Ciudadano says 19% of montadeudas apps advertise on FB/IG/email.

- Inferred **Peers sharing data and cross-referring users** : user reviews report calls from other lending apps after repayment.

## Préstala: Préstamos (ios_6803415432): why it's ranking

> Bottom line: this isn't a product that succeeded. It's Mexico's "montadeudas" (predatory payday lending) playbook running again at industrial scale. A new shell SOFOM relaunches an old brand, with a store page written to Apple's rules ("91–120 days, 23.5% APR"), while ratings are inflated with templated reviews to hold them at 4.8. The app sits around #20 on Mexico's Finance free chart. In practice, about 24% is deducted from each loan upfront, repayment is due in 7 days, and collection relies on aggressive debt recovery. The playbook is "relaunch under a new shell + maintain ratings + keyword naming + paid acquisition (inferred)", and the product itself has no differentiation. For a small team, this is **not something to copy, and not something to enter** : it requires a license and lending capital, and legal and platform risk is very high.

Data scope: App Store library (agent-im server, 2026-10-28 to 2026-11-06, Mexico storefront mx only); web and TikTok searches dated 2026-11-06.

### 1. Basics

| items | Value | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Developer | Integra 08, S.A.P.I. de C.V., SOFOM, E.N.R. (this is the only 1 app under the developer account) | appstore.app_profile |
| Launched | 2026-10-01, version has stayed at 1.0.0 | appstore.app_day |
| Region | Mexico only | Data card |
| Total ratings | 3,732 (10-28) → 5,203 (11-06), +9 ratings in 1,471 days; in the last 7 days +1,131, about 94–246 per day | appstore.app_day |
| Charts | Overall free chart 151–196, Finance free chart 18–29 (best 11-03, #18) | appstore.app_day |
| Store rating | 4.8 / 5, about 5.3k ratings | App Store page, 2026-11-06 |
| Reviews captured in the library | 443 reviews: 5 one-star 369, 4 two-star 28, 3 three-star 4, 2 four-star 3, 1 five-star 39 | appstore.review |

The store page states: 500–80,000 pesos, 91–120 days, daily rate 0.07%, APR cap 23.5%, CAT 31.5%. Apple's App Review Guideline 3.2.2(ix) caps the APR on personal loan apps at 36% and prohibits requiring repayment within 60 days, so this wording sits just inside the compliance line.

### 2. What the store page says and what users actually experience are far apart (user reviews, appstore.review).

The complaints in 1 one-star reviews are highly consistent:

- **Upfront deductions** : "Borrowed 3000, received 2280, owe 3290" (10-22 and 10-23); "Borrowed 1500, received 1100, owe 1600" (10-25 and 11-01); "Borrowed 500, received 380, owe 554" (10-29). By these numbers, the amount received is only about 74–76% of the nominal loan.

- **Timeline** : "Only given one week" and "collection calls start on day 3", which doesn't match the 91–120 days on the store page.

- **Money disbursed without consent** : "I never accepted the terms, and the money was sent anyway" (10-23, 10-25, 10-29, 11-03).

- **Collections** : harassing contacts in the phone book, threatening to expose ID photos and private pictures, and even death threats (10-22, 10-30, 11-02).

- **Shared data** : "Even after you pay off the loan, other lending apps keep calling, saying you borrowed from them too" (11-01).

By users' account (inference): after receiving 2280 and repaying 3290 in 7 days, the weekly rate works out to about 44%, which annualizes to thousands of percentage points. That's how the money comes back: upfront deductions and short repayment cycles recover funds immediately, and collections suppress defaults.

### 3. Growth tactics broken down

#### 3.1 Rating inflation / incentivized reviews (confirmed)

- **Machine-assembled template reviews** : 38 of the 443 reviews in the library (8.6%) follow the same "opening + middle + closing" template, for example:
    - "La verdad es que todo fue rapidísimo, desde la app hasta el depósito. Muy satisfecho con todo."
    - "Te la recomiendo porque al principio desconfiaba, pero todo resultó ser legítimo. ¡Excelente servicio!"
    - A garbled review: "Te la recomiendo porque recomiendo esta app porque es seria y responsable. Totalmente recomendable." Searching the whole appstore review library for these three endings, Préstala has 38 hits; the runner-up has only 7, and those belong to unrelated apps. Copy like this is almost certainly mass-generated.

- **5-star reviews with only a name filled in** : "Alonso soto / Alonso soto", "Luis / Luis Gustavo", "Gg", "XD", "Lote / Paco". Our guess is the app forces or pushes users to rate (e.g. a rating is required before a credit limit increase or loan payout), and some of these are burner accounts.

- Result: the store rating is 4.8, but almost all of the 1-star reviews we captured are complaints. **So this app's rating growth can't be used directly as a download proxy** ; a large share of it was manufactured.

- 6–51 new reviews per day (appstore.review, by date), 94–246 new ratings per day, a ratio of about 1:5.

#### 3.2 Relaunched under a new shell (inferred, strong evidence)

- The Préstala brand existed earlier:
    - The old app "Préstala - crédito y préstamo" (id6751937296) lists the operator as Grupo Golconda Guerrero, S.A. de C.V., SOFOM, E.N.R. Its terms are nearly identical (500–90,000, 91–120 days, 23.5%). The page now shows **404 (removed from the store)** when opened on 2026-11-06.
    - In the "montadeudas App list" published by Consejo Ciudadano 2026-08-25, PRESTALA ranks #271: 21 complaints, Google Play status "removed (BAJA)". [PDF](https://www.consejociudadanomx.org/media/pdf/16/LISTA%20DE%20APPS%20MONTADEUDAS%202026.pdf)
    - On TikTok, @ayudamontadeudas posted "Prestala: exposing an illegal montadeudas app" (episode 41, about 28k views) on 2026-05-02; @josueg19s posted "Préstala préstamos: 'regulated' but aggressive collections" (about 5,300 views) on 2026-10-18. (TikHub search for "prestala", 2026-11-06)

- Inference: after the same operator's old account was removed and its reputation collapsed, they relaunched under the same brand name through a new SOFOM shell (Integra 08, with 1 apps under its name), so old users and people searching the brand land in the same place. This is a common montadeudas playbook.

#### 3.3 Store search / keyword naming (inferred)

- The name "Préstala: Préstamos" embeds the biggest category keyword, "préstamos", directly. Shells in this batch follow the same naming pattern: "XX: Crédito y Préstamos", "XX-prestamos rapidos".

#### 3.4 Paid acquisition (unverified)

- Our metaads, googleads and tiktokads libraries don't track this app and don't index Mexican lending keywords, **so not finding it there doesn't mean it wasn't advertised** .

- Supporting signal: the Consejo Ciudadano list says "19% of montadeudas apps advertise on social networks, mainly Facebook, Instagram or email". Bulk SMS and loan-aggregator referrals are also common in the sector, but we haven't verified them.

#### 3.5 Shared data and cross-referral among peers (user-reported, unverified)

- Claims like "even after you pay off a loan, other lenders keep calling" point to a group of apps sharing borrower data and referring users to each other (the so-called "multi-debt" or "multi-lender" pattern).

### 4. Competitors: who else is doing the same thing

#### 4.1 A network of shell SOFOMs on one template (core finding: it is just one of many copycats)

appstore library, Mexico Finance, 2026-11-06, sorted by new ratings over the last 7 days:

| App | Developer (shell) | Launched | Total ratings | New ratings in the last 7 days | Finance rank |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| MexDinero | Rendiactiv SOFOM | 2026-08-16 | 14,085 | 1,461 | 30 |
| TakeDefi Capital | TAKEDEFI SOFOM | 2026-06-29 | 11,351 | 1,209 | 52 |
| **Préstala** | Integra 08 SOFOM | 2026-10-01 | 5,203 | 1,131 | 26 |
| Grosel Financiero | Corporativo Grosel SOFOM | 2026-06-01 | 14,825 | 1,014 | 76 |
| CashMex | Innovacion y Liquidez Efectiva SOFOM | 2024-12-31 | 39,771 | 1,010 | 32 |
| MorhPlata | Recursos Morh Capital SOFOM | 2026-10-02 | 3,664 | 777 | 45 |
| MoneyMex | Oportunify SOFOM | 2026-10-28 | 738 | 730 | 27 |
| Taco Préstamos | Financiera GMX SOFOM | 2026-08-27 | 9,313 | 725 | 47 |

The query covers the Finance category and apps with lending terms in the name or developer field, matching about 60 apps. Most are SOFOM E.N.R. entities that launched in the last 2025–2026 years, each developer has only 1 app(s), and the descriptions use the same "91–120 days / 23.5%" template. Several apps with ALA, Bretton, CreciDinero, Ágil Dinero, PlaPla, Fortaprest or Nube in the name also appear, by the same name, on the montadeudas list above.

#### 4.2 Legitimate fintechs and big players

| Name | Channel | Launched | Scale (appstore mx, 11-06) | How they differ from Préstala |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kueski | iOS/Android/web | 2020-09 | #22,8,347 in Finance ratings, +222 in 7 days | Branded, offers buy-now-pay-later plus lending, and is on the regulator's recommended trusted list. Rates are high but the terms are transparent. |
| Baubap | iOS/Android | 2026-06 (new bundle) | #25,7 in Finance for 187 days | On the trusted list, small first-time loans. |
| Klar | iOS/Android | 2019-09 | Finance rank #19,46,806 by rating | Digital bank plus credit card, with funding backing. |
| Stori | iOS/Android | 2019-12 | Finance rank #20,192,725 by rating | Credit cards for customers with no credit history. |
| Mercado Pago / DiDi Préstamos / Nu México | Features from big players. | Already around | Top players | Lending is one feature in the ecosystem, with near-zero acquisition cost |

Legitimate players add new ratings per day at a **much lower rate** than this batch of shells (Kueski +222 in a week, Préstala +1,131 in a week), but their rating quality is the reverse: Kueski's reviews average 2.9, Préstala's 4.5. This again shows that shell apps' ratings are artificially inflated.

### 5. Why it took off

1. **The demand is rigid** : Mexico has many people without bank coverage who need small loans urgently. Legitimate fintech approval cut off a large group of them, and those people end up at montadeudas.

2. **There is an industrialized listing template** : registering a SOFOM E.N.R. has a low bar (registration with CONDUSEF only, outside CNBV prudential supervision); store pages write compliance terms to Apple's rules; ratings are manipulated; names are keyword-stuffed; and when removed, the shell is replaced and the cycle restarts. Préstala is the same brand relaunched after removal.

3. **Ratings and rank are maintained** : template reviews plus name-only 5-star ratings push the rating to 4.8 and hold a spot in the top 30 of Finance, which keeps store-search conversion up.

4. **How the money comes back (user-reported, inferred)** : about 24% is taken off the top, and the principal plus interest is recovered within 7 days, so first-payment recovery is high. Bad debt is pressured by threatening the borrower's contacts. Loans paid out without consent (forced lending) also inflate loan volume.

### 6. Differentiation

- **No product-level differentiation.** Compared with dozens of template shells, only the name and shell company differ. Compared with legitimate players like Kueski, the "difference" is that the store page shows nicer terms (23.5% APR, 91–120 days), while actual execution is far worse.

- It works because of **distribution and operational execution** (shell swapping, rating manipulation, possibly paid acquisition), plus **lending resources** (licensed shell, capital, collections team), not because the product is different.

### 7. Visibility

- Revenue isn't public, and no media outlet or big X account has written about it.

- But the brand **is already notorious in consumer-protection circles** : it's on Consejo Ciudadano's montadeudas list (2026-08), and advocacy accounts on TikTok have exposed it (2026-05). El Universal and other outlets have also long covered the montadeudas list.

- The category is crowded: just in the last 30 days, several similar shells launched and each adds hundreds to thousands of ratings a week (MoneyMex 10-28, MorhPlata 10-02, KrediYa 10-14, Sí Presta 10-15).

### 8. What others can borrow (the playbook only, not the business)

- **Maintaining ratings has a big effect on store conversion in the Finance category** , and peers all do it. But template stitching leaves identifiable fingerprints (which can also be used to spot competitors' rating manipulation).

- After removal, **relaunching the same brand under a new shell** can capture brand-search traffic. This violates Apple rules 4.3 / 5.x and carries high risk. Treat it only as a reference for understanding the sector.

- For us: in a single category, a cluster of SOFOM shells where "each developer has 1 apps, launched less than 90 days ago, and ratings are surging" is a very reliable montadeudas signature. It can go into our recall rules as an exclusion.

### 9. Still unclear

- We found no paid acquisition, where it was bought, or how much was spent (the ad libraries don't cover Mexican lending).

- Whether Integra 08 and Grupo Golconda Guerrero are the same operator is unverified (we only see the matching brand name and terms).

- Real downloads and loan volume can't be estimated when ratings are manipulated.

- We did not find whether Integra 08 is registered in CONDUSEF's SIPRES, or its status.
