A free AI room-redesign app that climbed the charts in 94 countries on ads
What it is Snap a photo of a room or pick a space, choose a style and palette, and AI generates a redesign mockup in seconds. It's completely free and makes money from ads.
Why it took off Every competitor is paid and subscription-based. This one generates designs for free and earns back its costs from interstitial ads, so it could buy traffic heavily in cheap markets like India, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. On top of that, the Graphics & Design category has almost no chart-entry barrier in small countries.
B Could you copy it? If you have paid acquisition and ad monetization experience, a tool-matrix team could copy the "free + interstitial" model for cheap and non-English stores. But the more worthwhile opportunity is what its ads promise and it doesn't deliver: "just rearrange the furniture you already have."

A small company with almost no traceable background took a subscription category that was already packed: snap a photo of a room, and AI generates a redesign. It switched to "completely free, monetized by interstitial ads," and within two months it was charting in 94 countries' category charts. The product itself isn't new. What's worth watching is how it changed the way it gets paid, and tapped into traffic that subscription apps leave on the table.
A one-star review from a user the ads misled
In Oct 26, a US user named LizzzyV gave Maison AI: Home Design 1 stars, titled "Misleading ads." She said she saw it in a pop-up ad on her phone, which said people were making a mistake by buying new furniture, and should instead rearrange what they already own. "That's exactly what I was looking for!" She downloaded it, and the app generated an entirely new room with new furniture and decor. "I wanted to optimize the space with my existing furniture, not redesign the whole thing. There's no option for that in the app. Deleted."
This one review contains three signals: its users come from pop-up ads inside other apps; its ad creative uses a counterintuitive hook to drive clicks; and there's a group of people who want "just rearrange my existing furniture," which nobody is seriously building.
What it is
Maison AI is an iOS app from COMPASSMOBI TECH LIMITED, launched 2026-09-02, listed under the Graphics & Design category. Its features match dozens of other products in the category: pick a space (the store page lists 13 types, from living rooms, bedrooms, and kitchens to front yards, pools, and gardens), pick a style (119+ options, Scandinavian, Japandi, wabi-sabi, Mediterranean...), pick a color palette, and get a rendered image in seconds. It also has an AI advisor for color and small-space tips. English only.
The biggest difference from its competitors is something you can't see on the store page: it has no in-app purchases and no subscriptions (checked on the store page, 11-06). Its privacy labels list "used to track you": usage data and advertising data. Users pay nothing; they just watch ads.
How fast it grew
- Global ratings are 10-28 362, and 11-06 is 969, up 9 over 600 days. Daily new ratings rose from about thirty to 11-04 and then 133 to 11-06 and 138, and the growth is still accelerating (App Store ratings across storefronts, 10-28 to 11-06).
- India is the main driver: 7 days added 204 ratings, about 40% of global growth, with ratings going from 10-28 to 25 to 260. It ranks 5 on the Graphics & Design Top Free chart.
- Canada: 148 ratings. It entered the overall Top Free chart from category rank 1,11-05, sitting between 175 and 190.
- US: 271 ratings (11-06), +96 in 7 days, #25 on the category free chart. Its US rank tells the story: 10-28 dropped from #22,10-31 to 88,11-01 #93, then climbed back to 25. A curve that falls and gets pulled back up like this most often means ad spend was paused and restarted (inferred).
- "Charting in 94 countries" should be taken with a grain of salt: in storefronts like Belize, the British Virgin Islands, and Bermuda, it has only 0 ratings there, yet still lands in the top 13 of the category. That category has almost no barrier in small storefronts.
- The average is 4.4, but 5 of the 7 reviews with text are 1–2 stars, and almost all complain about ads: "Ads Ads Ads, you have to skip several ads every time you open it, and I got a full-screen ad less than a minute after using it" (Canada, 10-25); "This app shows more ads than results" (India, 10-31). Writers are complaining while star-only raters give high marks, most likely because Apple's rating prompt pops up right after you get a rendered image (inference, not verified).
It has never charted on any Top Grossing list. With no in-app purchases, it couldn't have.
Where users come from
The answer is mostly in that one review: interstitial and playable ads inside other apps, meaning ad networks such as AppLovin, Unity, or Mintegral (which one is unverified). Several things line up: users themselves say "an ad that popped up on my screen"; cheap-traffic regions like India, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia surged together; and its US ranking rose and fell with budget.
Searching Meta's and Google's public ad libraries for its app name, domain, and page name returns 0 results each. On TikTok, searching "Maison AI" only turns up unrelated videos, and on X there has been no discussion in nearly 60 days. There are no news pieces, interviews, or revenue posts online. Its website, maisonaihome.com, is an empty shell with just a privacy policy. In other words, very few people know it exists, its traffic is almost entirely bought, plus some store search traffic from keyword-stuffed names like "AI: Home Design" (inference).
Where the money comes from
Only ads. The logic is arbitrage: paid acquisition is cheap in India, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia, and ad rates there are low too, but if one user generates a few images and watches a few interstitials, that can pay back the cost of acquiring them. In the US and Canada, users command higher ad rates, which raises the average. Every generated image is a natural interstitial slot.
Whether the math actually works isn't visible from outside: which ad network it uses, how much it pays per user, and the generation cost per image are all undisclosed. What is visible is that it's increasing spend, since daily new ratings are rising.
Who it's competing with
This category has been crowded since 2023. About 40 apps with home design, interior, remodel, or decor in their US names have charted, and the leaders are all subscription apps that rank on Top Grossing (App Store US, 11-06):
| Product | Launched | US ratings / new ratings in 7 days | Best US rank | Monetization |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Home AI(HUBX) | 2024-04 | 161k / +95 | Top Grossing #5 in category | Subscription |
| AI Home Design: Interior DecAI | 2024-05 | 35k / +171 | Top Grossing #4 in category | Subscription, features nearly identical to Maison |
| AI Remodel(PulseApps) | 2024-05 | 26k / +249 | Top Grossing #7 in category | Subscription |
| AI Decor(Yspira) | 2025-09 | 8,135 / +148 | Top Grossing #39 in category | Subscription, launched a year later and has also grown |
| Arch(AppNation) | 2023-05 | 24k / +4 | Top Grossing #99 in category | Early leader, now fading |
| AI Home Design - iHome(GESIN HK) | 2026-07 | 82 / +31 | Top Free #72 | Similar approach to Maison, only on the Top Free chart |
| Maison AI: Home Design | 2026-09 | 271 / +96 | Top Free #25 in category | Free + ads |
Outside the chart are web-based Interior AI (one of the earliest in the category, built by Pieter Levels), DecorAI, and Collov, plus the biggest threat: ChatGPT's and Gemini's image editing can already restyle rooms for free, and IKEA Kreativ lets you place furniture directly in photos.
One detail: there's also an App Store app with the same name, "Maison AI - AI Home Design" (launched 2025-10, by an individual developer), with only 1 US ratings. So COMPASSMOBI isn't riding anyone's reputation. It looks more like a name collision, or a deliberate choice of a keyword that was already proven.
Who is behind it
COMPASSMOBI has 6 apps with no apparent connection to each other (Apple developer page, 11-06): a cat block puzzle (April), an AI health log (April), a 14-day weather forecast (June), a GPS map (July), Maison AI (September), and an audiobook app (September). Each comes with its own empty shell domain. It launches a new category every month or two, tests with small money, and adds budget if it works. The GPS map reached 39 storefronts and 625 ratings, and Maison is the best performer so far, and the first time this studio has entered a category like AI image generation, where users come back and see results every time.
This is a typical "tool matrix + ad arbitrage" studio. Who is on the team and which country they're in can't be found in public information.
Why it made the charts
- The demand already exists: Home AI has 160k ratings, and DecAI and AI Remodel both sit in the US category Top Grossing top 10, proving that "snap a room, get a rendered image" has buyers.
- It switched the way it gets paid: competitors all use hard paywalls, so you can't see results without paying. Maison renders for free, so conversion is high, which lets it buy users in India, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia, where subscription apps don't spend.
- It picked a low-barrier category: the Graphics & Design Top Free chart has almost no barrier in small storefronts. In Canada, 148 ratings got it to #1, and charting brings a bit of free exposure.
- The ad hook is strong: "Don't buy new furniture, rearrange what you have" taps into the urge to redecorate without spending money. Even though the product doesn't match the promise, that's how the complaints came in.
If it were you
B is worth a try, but this is a paid-acquisition arbitrage business, not a product opportunity. The product has no moat, and anyone can build the same thing in a week or two. Whether it makes money depends entirely on whether the cost to acquire a user is recovered by the ads that user sees. Also, ChatGPT and Gemini can restyle rooms for free, so this category's ceiling is getting lower.
Who it suits: small teams already running a matrix of tool apps, with ad network accounts, experience with interstitial and rewarded video monetization, and the math on each country's acquisition cost versus ad revenue. COMPASSMOBI itself looks like this kind of team.
Who it doesn't suit: indie developers who haven't bought users and want to grow through store search. 40 products are competing for these keywords, so organic traffic won't reach you. Also those who want to build a subscription: the top players already own that path, and you'd be competing on price with Home AI's 160k ratings.
How to do it: two routes. One is to copy its model: free renders, an interstitial after each generation, a rating prompt when the user gets a result they like, tested first in cheap storefronts like India, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East, with multilingual support added (it's English only, so Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian, and Arabic are all openings). The other, more interesting route: treat that one-star review as demand. Build a tool that rearranges only your own furniture (photograph existing furniture, recognize it, and propose several layouts). That's what Maison's ads promise and haven't delivered. Among the 11-06 apps that have charted in the US, we haven't seen anyone doing this.
How to acquire users: buy traffic through in-app ad networks, using the hook Maison has validated: "Don't buy new, rearrange what you have." If you actually build the rearrangement feature, the creative stops being misleading and complaints should drop. Test 20–30 creatives on a small budget, then add money to whichever ones pay back in cheap storefronts (inference).
When to move: Maison is still accelerating, and few people know about it. Launch a test before year-end, before a group of matrix studios copies the model.
What would mean you read it wrong: (1) Maison's daily new ratings fall back below thirty by late November and its rankings drop across storefronts together, which would mean paid acquisition isn't paying back and it's pulling out; (2) the top subscription apps (Home AI, DecAI) launch free + ad versions and take the cheap-storefront traffic; (3) ChatGPT or Gemini make "upload a room photo, change the style, rearrange the furniture" a one-tap feature on mobile.

Research date 2026-11-06. Data sources: our appstore library (2026-10-28 to 11-06), metaads / googleads / googleplay libraries, Apple lookup API and store pages, Jina web search, TikHub (TikTok), x-radar.
One line
An AI room / exterior / garden photo-editing app from COMPASSMOBI (COMPASSMOBI TECH LIMITED, a Hong Kong / Commonwealth-style "LIMITED" suffix; nationality unverified), launched 2026-09-02. It is free, sells no subscription, and monetizes through interstitial ads. Users were most likely bought through paid acquisition (most likely interstitial and rewarded-video ad networks used by games and utilities). It hit the top free charts in 94 countries in the Graphics & Design category, a category with a very low free-chart bar, with India and Canada as the main growth drivers. The product itself has no real difference from dozens of competitors. The real difference is monetization: rivals rely on subscriptions and crowd the top grossing charts, while this one is "free + ads," so it can scale with cheaper traffic (India, the Middle East, Southeast Asia).
1. Data
- Rating count (appstore library, all stores combined): 10-28 362 → 11-06 969,9 days added 607, last 7 days +504; daily new ratings rose from 24–38 to 133 (11-04) and 138 (11-06), and it is accelerating.
- By store (appstore library app_profile, 11-06):
- US: 260 ratings, +96 in 7 days, #25 on the Graphics & Design free chart (10-28 it dropped from 22,10-31 to 88, then 11-01 to 93, and then climbed back. The classic pattern: ranks fall when spend stops and recover when it restarts).
- India: 260 ratings, +204 in 7 days (40% of total growth), #5 on the category free chart; ratings went from 10-28 to 25 times the earlier count, 260,10.
- Canada: 148, +60 in 7 days, #1 on the category free chart, and #175–190 on the overall free chart (since 11-05).
- Top 13 in the category charts in Australia, New Zealand, the UAE, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Tunisia, Bahrain, Qatar, Belize, and the British Virgin Islands. In Belize, the British Virgin Islands, and Bermuda, local rating counts are only 0, yet they still reach the top 13 in the category. These tiny storefronts have almost no entry bar, so most of the "94 countries charting" comes from this.
- Number of storefronts charting (daily_all_countries): 10-28 95, dropped to 10-31 70,11-06, then back to 94.
- Has never charted on any top grossing chart. The store page has no In-App Purchases (checked by reading the store page with Jina, 11-06). Privacy labels list "Data Used to Track You: Usage Data" and "Advertising Data," which fits an ad-based business.
- Average rating 4.4 (US 4.38, India 4.25, Canada 4.55, appstore library app_snapshot). But in the review sample, 7 reviews are 5 1–2 stars, and almost all of them complain about ads: "Ads Ads Ads / Have to skip several ads right after opening" (ca, 10-25), "Adfest, more ads than results" (in, 10-31), "Misleading ads: the ad says it's wrong to add new furniture, you should rearrange what you already have…" (us, 10-26), "Thought it would use my own furniture" (us, 10-25). People who write reviews are angry, while those who only tap stars gave high scores. This likely means an in-app prompt asking for a store rating right when the user receives a rendered image (inference, unverified).
- Version 1.1.0 (11-03, "Bug fixes"), English only, 108.7 MB.
II. Competitors (appstore library, US storefront app_profile, 11-06; "7 days" means the rating count grew over 7 days)
This niche has been crowded since 2023. In the US library, 40 apps with home design / interior / remodel / decor in their names have charted:
| Product | Developer | Launched | US rating count / 7 days | Best US rank | How Maison differs |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Home AI - AI Interior Design | HUBX (Turkish studio) | 2024-04 | 160,771 / +95 | Top Grossing #5 in category | Leader, subscription model. Maison's US growth over 7 days is similar, but it is free. |
| AI Home Design: Interior DecAI | COOL SUMMER LIMITED | 2024-05 | 34,657 / +171 | Top Grossing #4 in category | Also covers full interior, exterior, and garden. Subscription. Has website decai.ai. |
| AI Remodel — Interior Design | PulseApps Solutions OÜ | 2024-05 | 25,618 / +249 | Top Grossing #7 in category | Subscription. Growth is 2.6 times Maison's US growth. |
| Arch - AI Home Design | AppNation | 2023-05 | 23,771 / +4 | Top Grossing #99 in category | Early leader, already faded. |
| AI Decor - AI Home Design | Yspira Digital | 2025-09 | 8,135 / +148 | Top Grossing #39 in category | Launched a year later, already at 8 thousand ratings. |
| AI Garden Design: Landscape AI | Mobiversite | 2025-05 | 8,179 | Top Grossing #60 | Garden only. |
| Home Style AI | Lumetro LLC | 2025-08 | 2,894 / +81 | Top Grossing #25 | Subscription |
| AI Home Design - iHome | GESIN HK LIMITED | 2026-07 | 82 / +31 | Free rank #72 | Small player that launched at the same time. Like Maison, only on free charts. |
| Planner 5D / Home Planner(Room Planner) | Long-running 3D planning app. | 2013 / 2016 | 42k / 46k | Top grossing 49 / 108. | Real 3D floor plans, not AI photo editing. |
| Web: Interior AI (interiorai.com), DecorAI, Ideal House, Collov | Web | From ¥2022 | — | — | Web-based, subscription or pay-per-use. Pieter Levels' Interior AI is the ancestor of this category. |
| Big-company features | ChatGPT / Gemini image editing, IKEA Kreativ, Pinterest | — | — | — | Upload a room photo and change the style directly. Free, strong substitutes. |
There is also a separate app with the same name, "Maison AI - AI Home Design" (id6752671090, developer Aliaksandr Parkhamovich, launched 2025-10-30, website maisonai.app, Instagram @maisonai.app), with only 1 ratings in the US. The recall card says COMPASSMOBI is "riding the name," but the original barely has users, so there is little name value to ride. COMPASSMOBI has its own site, maisonaihome.com (an empty homepage with just a privacy policy). It is more likely a name collision, or a name chosen during ASO because its keywords had already been validated. It is not clearly traffic hijacking.
Conclusion: lots of competition, and the top players are all subscription-based and on top grossing charts. Maison's features (13 room types, 119 styles, color palettes, an AI advisor chat) are nearly identical to DecAI and Home AI, so there is no product differentiation.
3. Where users come from
| Channel | Evidence | Confirmed? |
|---|---|---|
| In-app ad network paid acquisition (interstitials and playable ads from networks like AppLovin, Unity, Mintegral) | A US user's 1-star review says, "an ad that popped up on my screen literally said…", which suggests they saw a pop-up ad inside another app. The creative uses a counterintuitive "your furniture is arranged wrong" hook. Spend is spread across many countries at once, with a high share from cheap traffic in India, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. US category rank went from 10-28→11-01 down from 22 to 93, then pulled back to 25, which fits a budget being switched on and off. | Partly confirmed (user testimony exists, specific channel unverified) |
| Meta ads | Searching metaads by App Store id, the domain maisonaihome, and the Page name each returned 0 results. It is also not on the googleads or tiktokads lists. | Not found (the libraries only track listed advertisers, so not finding it does not mean it isn't advertising) |
| TikTok / Xiaohongshu / X content | Searching TikHub for "Maison AI" only returns unrelated AI house-building videos and French short dramas. x-radar shows 0 relevant posts in 60 days. | Not found |
| Store search / ASO | The name is stuffed with keywords ("AI: Home Design"). Graphics & Design has a nearly zero entry bar for small-category charts, so the name brings some organic traffic. | Inferred |
| Rating prompt | Average 4.4, but 5/7 of the written reviews are negative, consistent with a rating prompt shown when the user receives an image. | Inferred |
| Media / creators / founder | Web searches for "Maison AI Home Design" and "COMPASSMOBI" return no coverage, interviews, or revenue posts. | Not found |
Where the money comes from: no in-app purchases, only interstitial ads and possibly rewarded video (users say several full-screen ads pop up within a minute of opening the app). It's an arbitrage on "paid acquisition cost per install < ad revenue per user": CPI is cheap in India, the Middle East and Southeast Asia, and eCPMs are low there too, but once users have generated a few images and seen a few interstitials, the spend pays back. US and Canadian users carry higher ad rates, which lift the average.
IV. Developer matrix
COMPASSMOBI has 6 apps under its name (Apple lookup, 11-06). They are unrelated to each other, and each has its own empty website domain:
- Cat Block Puzzle: Pet Care (2026-04-02,7 ratings)
- Daily Record: AI Health (2026-04-28,1)
- Weather Wizard: 14D Forecast (2026-06-16, 102 total across stores, charting in 32 stores)
- Live World: GPS Map (2026-07-08, 625 total across stores, charting in 39 stores, best category rank #20)
- Maison AI: Home Design (2026-09-02, 969 total across stores, 94 stores)
- NovVoice: Audiobooks (2026-09-05,2 ratings)
Roughly every 1–2 months they launch a new product in a new category, test with a small budget, and add spend if it works. Maison is currently performing best, and it is the first time this studio has hit an AI image-generation category that users want to repeat and can see results from. This is a classic tool-portfolio plus ad-arbitrage studio playbook.
V. Why it took off
- Picked a proven category with large demand: AI room remodeling has had subscription products like Home AI (160k ratings), DecAI, and AI Remodel on top grossing charts since 2023, so demand already exists.
- Changed monetization so it can scale with cheap traffic: competitors all use hard paywalls and subscriptions, while Maison is free + ads. Users can generate images without paying, which lifts conversion, so the studio can afford to buy traffic in India (7 days +204, 40% of growth), the Middle East, and Southeast Asia, where subscription products don't spend.
- Smart category and store picks: the Graphics & Design Top Free chart has a very low barrier in small stores (0 local ratings can still reach the top 13). In Canada, 148 ratings were enough for #1 in the category and #175–190 overall in Top Free, and charting itself brought some organic exposure.
- Creative hook: the ad copy in the user testimonial, "Your furniture is new and wrong; rearrange what you already have," hits the "fix it for free" impulse. But the actual product generates renders of new furniture, so the product doesn't match the promise, and that's where the bad reviews come from.
- Propping up the average with the rating prompt: 4.4 stars keeps store-page conversion from being dragged down by ad-driven bad reviews (inferred).
VI. Differentiation
- On features there's no differentiation: room, style and palette options are basically the same as DecAI and Home AI; image quality is unverified; English only.
- The real difference is the business model: free plus interstitial ads, not subscription. That's why it can spread across low-priced stores and why it appears only on Top Free and never on Top Grossing. It has costs too: bad reviews cluster, retention is likely poor, revenue per user is low, and there's a real risk of "lots of installs, little money."
VII. Visibility and copycats
- Almost nobody knows about it: no press, no X or TikTok discussion, no public revenue, and the developer is fully anonymous (the website is an empty shell).
- Copycats: a similar app, AI Home Design - iHome (GESIN HK LIMITED, 2026-07, 82 US ratings, Top Free only), was out at the same time with a similar approach, but we can't confirm it's copying.
8. What others can learn from it
- In an AI generation category crowded with subscription products, swapping to "free plus ads" to capture the low-priced stores that subscription apps ignore is an arbitrage you can copy: each generation is a natural interstitial slot.
- When choosing a category, check the entry bar for Top Free in small-store categories: a category where 0 ratings is enough to chart gives you a layer of free exposure.
- Portfolio rhythm: one app a month, an empty-shell domain plus a privacy policy, test ROI with a small budget first.
- The lesson: the creative promised something the product didn't deliver (rearranging your own furniture), and reviews called it out directly. If it had actually built a "rearrange existing furniture only" feature, that would have been the differentiator.
9. What I'm still unsure about
- Which ad network it uses, the unit price, and whether ad revenue can cover paid acquisition (no data).
- Which model it generates with and the inference cost per image (under the free plus ads model, this is the biggest cost).
- The developer's nationality and team background (we only have the name "COMPASSMOBI TECH LIMITED," which returns nothing online).
- Retention: rating increments only reflect downloads and can't show whether users stick around.
- Whether the 4.4 average was driven by the rating prompt is inference.
