An old Zi Wei chart app lost its case records in one update, and a Zi Wei teacher moved her clients over the same day: "萬象有序" and astrologers' client management
What it is A chart-casting app for working fortune-tellers: Zi Wei, Ba Zi and Liu Yao charts, plus client files, consultation payment records, and statistics on their own case records.
Why it took off The long-standing industry app 文墨天機 pushed an update in late September that wiped users' case records and was briefly pulled. The author posted on Threads the same day. A one-click migration tool was already built, and he had close to 9k followers plus endorsements from peers.
BHow you could follow Don't go head-on in Taiwan's Zi Wei circle. Pick a different practitioner group that charges per one-on-one session (mainland fortune-tellers, Japanese 占い師, tarot and astrology readers), and build "professional tool + client management + one-click migration from old tools + charts branded with your own name," with traction driven by teachers within that circle.

A Taiwanese practicing Zi Wei fortune-teller built a chart app whose selling point isn't charting but "client management for fortune-tellers." In late September, 文墨天機, the chart app the industry had used for nearly ten years, shipped an update that went wrong and wiped case records. He posted the same day, and a migration tool he'd prepared in advance caught a batch of peers. The business is small and almost nobody does it. What's worth learning is the playbook. What's worth following is applying it to a different audience or language.
"Whatever you do, don't tap update"
On 2026 Sep 30, Taiwanese Zi Wei fortune-teller "星曜知微" posted on Threads: "文墨天機really blew up! A prompt just popped up asking users to update before they could keep using it. After updating, all saved cases were wiped, and it still won't work properly." She added that she had talked with @myzenstar365 the previous Friday about moving her cases to his app, "so I escaped this tech disaster," and "I was still dual-using, but after this I've decided to focus on 萬象有序." The post got 22k views.
@myzenstar365 is "命吾鎮曜," the author of 萬象有序. His own post followed right after (Threads showed 10-01): "文墨天機 has a major crash, whatever you do don't tap update! Screenshot your cases now, then download '萬象有序' to migrate!" In the post he also explained that Settings → Data has a migration button, which opens a Gemini Canvas mini-tool: "just drop in your screenshots and it generates an import file." This post got 37k views and 270 likes.
The same day he posted again: "文墨天機 has been pulled from the App Store... friends who can't wait, come straight to 萬象有序" (13k views). Replies included "I downloaded 萬象有序 and immediately removed 文墨天機," and "already bought 萬象有序."
Awkwardly, 萬象有序 wasn't on iOS yet at that point: the Android and Windows versions were already in their stores, so iPhone users had to use the web version, and he taught people to "add to home screen" and use it as an app. The iOS version didn't pass review and launch until Oct 20.
What it is
A tool for working fortune-tellers: Zi Wei, Ba Zi and Liu Yao charts plus a perpetual calendar, on iPhone, iPad, Android and Windows. Charts work offline, data is stored on the phone, and no account is required.
What sets it apart from other chart apps is the second half:
- Client management: a file per client, with basic info, traits, an event timeline arranged by major luck cycles, family relationships, and every consultation with the fee collected and who still owes. Tap a name to chart directly, with no need to re-enter birth data.
- Statistics on your own cases: cross-filter by star combinations, Ba Zi conditions and event tags, and compare how often a combination appears in your clients against the whole case library. The store page says "your own cases are a database."
- Zi Wei + Ba Zi combined view: the Zi Wei chart's center also lists the four pillars. Tap major and annual luck cycles and the center's luck pillars update accordingly.
The author stated the gap it fills: "If you've used 文墨天機 or done Ba Zi readings, you know there's no good way to record client information or filter cases."
How much traction
The scale is small, but it's real within its niche.
| Metric | Metric |
|---|---|
| iOS release | 10-20(App Store) |
| Taiwan App Store rating | 10-28 is 39, 11-06 is 57, last 7 days +15, average 4.97 |
| Taiwan Business category chart | Top Grossing best #18 (10-31), Top Free best #9 (11-01); 11-06 Top Grossing #65 |
| Android | 1,000+ downloads, about 40 reviews (Google Play, 11-06) |
| Version | Went from 1.3 to 1.6 in two weeks; added Japanese and Korean interfaces |
| For comparison: 文墨天機 Pro | Taiwan: 3,624 ratings, 11-06 utility apps still in the Top Grossing 29–52 range |
The Taiwan Business chart threshold is low; a few dozen ratings can place an app at Top Grossing #18–80. That shows people are paying, but the scale is probably a few hundred paying users (inferred), not a big business. 文墨天機 is back on the store and still charting, and most long-time users stayed, so 萬象有序 only captured a small slice.
Each of 11-03 and 11-04 gained about 5 ratings, matching the 1.5 update. The reason it reached #9 on the Top Free chart (11-01) wasn't found.
Where users come from
It all came from the author's own circle. No paid acquisition seen:
- Capturing traffic at the moment of the rival's failure. The posts above were the main driver, and Facebook also spread "文墨天機 got pulled, everyone needs to find an alternative app."
- Migration tool prepared in advance. The import page lets you paste a case list exported from the old app or upload screenshots for recognition, one person per line with name, gender, birth data, and notes. Importing the same file twice doesn't create duplicates. Built on Gemini Canvas, so backend costs are near zero. User @sunmoon_loft posted "Done! Exported all cases from 文墨天機 iOS... dumped everything into 萬象有序."
- The author is himself a content creator. 8,885 Threads followers, regularly posting Zi Wei explainers and taking LINE readings. His users are both his readers and his peers.
- Peer endorsements. After the iOS launch, 10-24 got 5 five-star reviews in a single day, one signed "by 日月閤陳奕綺老師," another saying "MIT apps have to support this. I don't dare use other software anymore, always afraid the data will disappear." That was practically a direct response to the 文墨 incident.
Where the money comes from
The free version can chart and store 88 case records, enough for hobbyists but not for practitioners. Upgrade options:
| Plan | Pricing |
|---|---|
| Pro subscription | NT$88 / month |
| Chart one-time purchase / client management one-time purchase | NT$888 each |
| Both bundled | NT$2,280 |
| "Center branding": replace the chart's center with your own brand or logo | NT$1,680 |
The last item is the smartest. Fortune-tellers send chart screenshots to clients, and the name printed in the center is their own. This is something sold specifically to professional users, unrelated to how accurate the chart is.
Retention comes from data. Once a client's cases, events, family links and payments are entered, they won't move on. The 文墨 incident turned "your data won't disappear" into the top selling point. Another reason is that the author is close to his users. Comments like "if you want a feature, just tell the teacher" led to 4 versions in two weeks.
Who it's competing with
| Product | Scale | Compared with alternatives |
|---|---|---|
| 文墨天機 | Taiwan 3,624 ratings, Hong Kong 1,073 | The industry-standard chart tool, but cases are just a flat list: no event records, no filtering or stats. A September update broke it. |
| 論八字 and other BaZi apps | Not verified | Only BaZi charts. No client records. |
| 辰璣堂 | Taiwan 1 ratings, launched this autumn | Almost the same pitch, "a client management system for fortune-tellers." Later and smaller, with no built-in audience. |
| The 命理網 "My Cases" feature | Not verified | Web-only. Stores birth data for charts, with no clients or payments. |
| meen.tw, 科技紫微網, click108 | Big traffic | Free one-off charts, no client storage |
Chart apps are everywhere. "Client management + your own case library, built for working practitioners" is nearly empty.
Should you chase it?
Building a Zi Wei version for Taiwan won't work. The author is inside this circle, with followers and peer endorsement, and got lucky with a rare competitor meltdown. The market only supports a few hundred to a few thousand paying users.
Two things are worth copying:
- This format: "professional calculation tool + client files + stats on your own cases + white-label sales." It fits any practitioner who charges one-on-one and produces a chart or report every session: tarot readers, Western astrologers, Japanese 占い師, feng shui masters. Wherever the community relies on an old, poorly maintained tool whose developer is hard to reach, there's an opening.
- This play: build the "move your data over" tool before a competitor fails, so you can take people in the moment it happens. This author had the migration tool ready before the failure, which is why they could onboard users the same day.
If it were you
Grade B. Worth trying, but only if you're already inside the community. If you want to do "tools + client management for practitioners" in another niche or language, don't go head-to-head with it in Taiwan's Zi Wei circle.
Good fit for: people who work in a one-on-one paid industry, or know practitioners well and have a few thousand peers following them. You also need to be able to ship a small, stable local app and push a version every two weeks on practitioners' requests.
Bad fit for: outside indie devs hoping to win practitioners through store search or paid ads (this crowd trusts peer recommendations, not ads). Also anyone building a mass-market fortune app. That's a different business, and mainland China's App Store reviews fortune-telling apps strictly (inferred).
How to do it: pick one community (say, mainland BaZi or Zi Wei consultants, delivered as a mini-program or web app, or Japanese 占い師). Learn the data format of the old tool that community uses most, and on day one have "screenshot or paste a list → one-tap import" ready. Let the free tier work but cap client count. Charge a one-time purchase plus a monthly subscription, and sell a version with the practitioner's own brand on the chart. Store data locally by default, require no sign-up, and say so on the homepage.
How to get users: find 5–10 practitioners with followings in that community and get them using it. Have them post chart screenshots in their own content, branded with their name, which is your advertising. You keep publishing professional content yourself. Watch competitors' store reviews and community chatter. The moment an update breaks, gets pulled, or a price rises, publish a "how to move your data" tutorial that same day.
Deadline: there's no holiday window, but the migration tool must be ready before the next old-tool failure. 萬象有序 has already added Japanese and Korean interfaces, so if you're targeting Japan or Korea, start within six months.
What would prove this wrong: ① In the community you pick, more than half of the practitioners won't put client data into a new app. ② 萬象有序's Taiwan rating stays below 100 through 2027 January 10, and it drops out of the top 100 for business apps. That would show even the first mover that got a failure boost can't grow. ③ 文墨天機 adds client management and filtering, and its existing users stay.

Why 萬象有序 | Case Management System (iOS 6804373203) took off
In one line: a Taiwanese Zi Wei practitioner (whose day job is investment analysis) built an app for charting, case and client management, and stats on their own cases. It handles Zi Wei, BaZi, and Liu Yao side by side. The iOS version launched 2026-10-20. The direct cause was that 2026-09-30 the veteran chart tool 文墨天機 wiped its cases in a forced iOS update and was briefly pulled. The author posted on Threads that day, "Don't tap update! Screenshot your cases and download 萬象有序 to move over" (37K views), and had already built a case-migration tool (Gemini Canvas screenshot recognition into an import file). It's a textbook capture: a competitor fails, the migration tool is ready, and the creator brings their own audience.
1. Data
| Metric | Value | Source |
|---|---|---|
| iOS launch | 2026-10-20 (Android and Windows launched earlier; by 9/30 iOS only had the web version / TestFlight) | iTunes lookup; author's Threads post 2026-09-30 |
| TW rating count | 10-28 39 → 11-06 57, 7 days +15; average 4.97 | appstore database, app_day (tw) |

| Comparison: 文墨天機 (Professional) | TW 3,624 ratings, 7 days +21. TW Utilities Top Grossing #29–52. | appstore database (tw, 2026-11-06) |
Reading: the bar for Taiwan's Business category is low. 57 ratings is enough to chart #18–80 in Top Grossing, so there's real in-app purchasing, but at the scale of a few hundred paying users, not a big business. Ratings show a small +5/+5 spike around 11-03/11-04, matching the 1.5 update.
II. Competitors
| Competitors | Platform | Launched | Scale | Unlike Wanxiang Youxu |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 文墨天機® (Professional) | iOS / Android / web | iOS 2017-12 | TW 3,624 ratings, HK 1,073. Android Pro 739 reviews. | Industry-standard chart tool, Zi Wei-focused; case records are just a flat list, can't log client events or filter/aggregate; after iOS v2026-09-30/10-01 update cases were lost and it was briefly pulled (now back on the store, TW page live) |
| Wenmo Tianji® (Basic) | iOS | Early on | Disappeared from the App Store (Threads users asking since 2025 years ago) | Same as above |
| 論八字 and other BaZi chart apps | iOS/Android | Years | Not verified | Bazi only; author's words: "If you've used Wenmo Tianji or Lun Bazi, you know you can't record client info and there's no good filtering" |
| Chen Ji Tang (PAO-CHIANG WANG) | iOS / Android | 2026 Qiu (first TW comment 10-27) | TW 1 ratings | Nearly identical positioning, "fortune teller client management system": client profiles, tags, relationship maps, event logs, stats, subscription; author says it was "developed step by step with AI." Looks like a copycat/parallel entrant, an order of magnitude smaller in scale |
| Destiny.Pro "My Cases" (MingLiGuo) | Web | Not verified | Not verified | Only stores birth data for chart viewing; no clients, payments, or stats |
| meen.tw, Keji Ziwei and click108 and other free chart sites | Web | Years | Big traffic | One-off charts, no client storage |
| iztro(SylarLong) | Open source | 2023 | GitHub open-source Zi Wei library | It's a chart engine, not a product for practitioners |
Bottom line: Chart software is everywhere, but "CRM for practicing fortune tellers + their own case database" is almost empty; Wanxiang Youxu is the first to make real noise. Chen Ji Tang is the only clear peer, and it's very late and very small.
3. Growth levers (ranked by strength of evidence)
- Instant capture of a rival's outage (confirmed): 2026-09-30 author posted "Wenmo Tianji has a major crash, don't tap update! Screenshot your cases now and download 'Wanxiang Youxu' to move over!" 37.4K views, 270 likes, 84 replies; 10-01 followed with "Wenmo Tianji has been pulled from the App Store… friends who can't wait can come to Wanxiang Youxu now." Same day, fortune teller @design_totem_art_y posted "Wenmo Tianji blew up… luckily last Friday I talked with @myzenstar365 about moving my cases to his place", 22.4K views, and announced "I've decided to focus on Wanxiang Youxu." A Facebook post also circulated: "Wenmo Tianji… has been pulled, everyone needs to find a replacement app."
- Sources: threads.com/@myzenstar365/post/Dd7zfbJnQGn, /post/Dd88WAkHSXv; threads.com/@design_totem_art_y/post/Dd6yH-JEoDN; threads.com/@meta.ai/post/Dd82puBEXk8 (summary: "10/1 after update major crash… temporarily pulled, official explanation is a time-validation bug")
- Migration tool was ready in advance (confirmed): Settings → Profile has a "Move" button that opens a Gemini Canvas tool; drop in a screenshot of the Wenmo Tianji case list and it OCRs it into import JSON. There's also an offline no-login version (chartcast.myzenstar.com/import/). A user, @sunmoon_loft, posted "Done! Exported my full Wenmo Tianji iOS cases… dumped them all into Wanxiang Youxu." This cut switching cost to a few minutes.
- The author is a Zi Wei content creator (confirmed): Threads @myzenstar365 has 8,885 followers, posts daily Zi Wei education (Northern/Southern schools, Life Palace readings), and also sells Line consultations. He previously built a Zi Wei matchmaking app, "Yuanlai Ocome." His users are his readers and peers.
- Fortune-teller peer endorsements / review seeding (confirmed, small scale): Within a day of the iOS launch, 10-24 received 5 five-star reviews, one signed "by 日月閤陳奕綺老師" and another stressing "an MIT app must support… so you don't live in fear that your data might disappear at any moment", directly echoing the Wenmo incident. On Threads, astrology accounts @blessing.in_the_stars, @yxchen030 ("the only recommended charting software") and @pin_hui_chi either recommended it spontaneously or were invited to.
- Multi-platform first, iOS later (confirmed): Android and Windows launched first, and iOS was held up by Apple review (10-10 users posted "hope Apple lets Teacher Zhen-yao go"). It hit the App Store on 10-20, and a batch of existing Android/web users switched over right away.
- Paid ads: No evidence found (ad libraries not checked; Meta ads in Taiwan not covered).
4. Why users stay and pay
- Data is the lock-in: Once a fortune teller's client cases, event timelines, family relations and consultation payments are entered, they don't leave. The Wenmo incident turned "data safety" into the top selling point (local storage, no sign-up, iCloud/Google backup).
- Professional necessity: Practitioners need to remember "who came, how much they paid, who hasn't returned in a while." That used to be scattered across chart software + Excel + bookkeeping; Wanxiang Youxu merges it into one place.
- Research value: "Verify theory with your own cases" (the share of a star combination in your own cases vs. the full database) is a unique selling point for teaching-oriented fortune tellers.
- Zi Wei + Bazi side by side: The Zi Wei chart's center shows the four pillars and links them to the decade and yearly cycles; the author calls it "the first Zi Wei + Bazi combined chart."
- Pricing: The free tier can generate charts and save 88 cases (enough for hobbyists, not for practitioners); Pro is NT$88/month. One-time purchases: charting NT$888, client management NT$888, bundle NT$2,280; "Zhonggong signature" replaces the chart's center with your own brand for NT$1,680. This is aimed squarely at fortune tellers who show charts to clients, which is clever.
- Fast-moving author who takes feature requests directly: a user's words: "If you want a feature, you can just ask 正曜老師 directly, no need to worry about not finding the admin" (compare 文墨天機, run by mainland developers whose support replies are in Simplified Chinese). Shipped 4 versions in two weeks.
5. Differentiation, and whether it's why it took off
The differentiation is "fortune-teller CRM + their own case database," not the chart itself. But the timing and speed of the breakout mainly came from the Wenmo Tianji outage, a platform event: the product differentiation is why fortune tellers stay and pay; the outage is why they came "now." Without the Wenmo outage it would most likely still be a small tool in the author's fan circle; without the client management and migration tool, the outage would have been wasted. Both were needed.
6. How many people see it
Word of mouth is circulating only in Taiwan's Threads/IG fortune-telling circles (the author has 8.9K followers; top post 37k views); no mention at all on X (local x-radar corpus); no media coverage; revenue undisclosed. A similar product, Chen Ji Tang, exists (very small).
VII. What to take away
- Target vertical-industry tools that are "old, poorly maintained, with developers overseas or hard to reach." When they break, that's the window, provided the migration tool is built in advance (here, screenshot OCR import via Gemini Canvas, zero backend cost).
- Build "tools + CRM" for industry practitioners themselves, using data accumulation for retention; sell "white-label/signature" versions to practitioners who show results to clients.
- The author is both a practitioner and a content creator, so no paid acquisition is needed to cold-start.
- The same model transfers to: tarot/astrology readers, pet grooming, personal trainers, tutors, and other "one-on-one service + professional calculation tool" industries.
8. Not sure
- Revenue scale: Business-category bestsellers in the 18–80 range have a low bar in Taiwan; actual revenue unknown.
- The reason 11-01 reached #9 on the Top Free chart hasn't been found (possibly a recommendation post from a fortune-telling account).
- The exact cause and duration of the Wenmo Tianji removal (rumored "privacy policy violation" / "time-validation bug," unverified). It is now visible in TW and ranks 29–71 in utilities bestsellers, suggesting most existing users are still in place and Wanxiang Youxu has only captured a small slice.
- The exact launch date of Chen Ji Tang hasn't been verified.
- Whether it can expand beyond Chinese-speaking markets is unknown (Japanese and Korean interfaces have been added).
