A Korean nurse blogger's shift-scheduling app: all tools free, money from raising puppies
What it is Shift scheduling, shift-specific checklists, work notes and an IV drip calculator for Korean nurses. All the tools are free. On top sits a pet-raising, room-decorating layer where you visit coworkers' rooms for mini-games, monetized with in-app gold purchases and rewarded video ads.
Why it took off The developer is a Korean nurse Instagram creator with tens of thousands of likes. Her "comment ๐ and I'll DM you the link" posts turned followers into downloads. After one viral animation 10-27, both stores charted it at the same time. The Korean Medical Top Grossing chart has a low bar: a few people buying gold put it in the top 30.
CHow you could follow it If you already have a vertical audience in a shift-work profession (or can split revenue with a creator who does), you could copy this: move to nurses or flight attendants, firefighters, etc. in Japan or Taiwan. Build solid free tools, charge for coworker social features and cosmetics, and cold-start with comment-for-link posts.

A Korean nurse named ๋๋์ผ, who posts about hospital life on Instagram, built an app for her followers that handles scheduling, checklists and IV calculations. It's called Nursing. In Oct 27 she posted an animated comedy short with tens of thousands of likes. Four days later the app hit #10 on the Korean App Store Medical Top Free chart, peaking at #12 on Top Grossing. Yet worldwide it had only 15 ratings, and on Android just 1,225 total installs. This piece covers three things: where the traffic came from, how money was extracted from a nursing tool nobody wanted to pay for, and what you can borrow and what you can't.
Four days after a "male nurse" animation
In Oct 27, the Instagram account @dounniquet posted an animated short titled ใ๋จ์๊ฐํธ์ฌ๊ฐ ์์ด๋ ์ ๋์๊ฐ๋ ์ด์ ใ (Why the ward keeps running even without male nurses). By Nov 6 it had 31.4k likes and 283 comments. Commenters wrote things like ใ์ ํฌ ์๋ง๋ 21๋ ์ฐจ ๊ฐํธ์ฌ์ธ๋ฐ ์ด๊ฑฐ ์ง์ง์ ๋๋คใ (My mom has been a nurse for 21 years and says this is real), and others asked what anime it was from.
The video didn't mention the app. But the account bio said "a service for nurses," and the profile linked to Nursing. Over the next four days, both stores moved at once:
| Date | iOS Medical Top Free | iOS Medical Top Grossing | Android Medical Top Free | Android cumulative installs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10-29 | โ | โ | 150 | 412 |
| 10-30 | 78 | 53 | โ | โ |
| 10-31 | 10 | 64 | 27 | โ |
| 11-01 | 10 | 12 | โ | โ |
| 11-02 | โ | โ | 10 | 1,026 |
| 11-06 | 42 | 30 | 42 | 1,225 |
(Korean App Store and Google Play charts, 10-28 to 11-06; "โ" means no data was retrieved that day.)
On Android, installs went up by 582 in a day or so, from 11-01 to 11-02. Both platforms rose at the same moment, which is hard to explain with organic store search and matches the animation's timing. However, 10-30 she also shipped a new version, and I couldn't verify whether paid promotion ran at the same time. Which factor drove the chart climb can't be separated (inference).
What it is
A phone tool for Korean nurses:
- Shift calendar: set colors for day, evening and night shifts (DAY / EVE / NIGHT), log monthly shifts, and total night and holiday hours.
- Shift-specific checklists: the tasks for day shift and night shift differ, and the checklist switches automatically with your schedule.
- Work notes: new nurses can record what they learn.
- IV drip rate calculator: supports only 20 gtt/mL drip sets, with the formula's source cited.
- Alarms: on iOS 26 it uses the system-level AlarmKit, since nurses dread a shift alarm that fails to go off.
The store description ends bluntly: scheduling, alarms, checklists, notes, IV calculation, community and pet-raising, all free.
It launched on Android first (by late August), then iOS in Sep 12, credited to developer doun jeong. Less than two months after launch the version reached 1.4.25,10-27 to 11-04, with near-daily releases. Its support page is hosted on a chatgpt.site subdomain. A solo developer moving this fast is likely using AI to write the code (inference).
Where users came from: her own Instagram
Distribution for this app relies almost entirely on the author herself. Her account covers clinical knowledge, hospital life and the frustrations of nursing. Her top post got 62.2k likes (a science explainer on how night shifts disrupt your body clock). Follower count requires logging in, so I couldn't check it.
She uses two kinds of posts for two jobs.
One converts: comment ๐ and she DMs you the download link. Her Sep 18 post had one line, ใ์ผ๋จ ๋ฐ๊ณ ๋ด์ใ (just download it first), with 3k likes and 4.4k comments. Comments outnumber likes, and scrolling down is almost all ๐. Her Sep 13 post ใ์ฒดํฌ๋ฆฌ์คํธ, ์ ๋ฌด๋ ธํธ ์ง์ง goatใ (the checklist and work notes are seriously the GOAT) got 262 likes and 1.7k comments, again a wall of ๐. This is a common Korean Instagram tactic: nearly every comment is a would-be downloader, and high comment counts push the algorithm to show the post more. By Nov 6, seven-week-old posts still had fresh ๐ comments from a few hours earlier, suggesting either steady organic traffic or paid boosting. I found no evidence for paid boosting.
One thing that brings in new followers: relatability and humor. "์ฃ์กํฉ๋๋ค" (sorry), 6.3K likes; "ํฌ๋ง์ง์ 2์์๊ฐ ๊ฐํธ์ฌ..?" (Nurse is the #2 dream job??), 3.8K likes and 3.6K comments, tagged #์ ์ #๊ฐํธํ๊ณผ #๊ณ 3, widening the audience from working nurses to high-schoolers and nursing students; plus the male-nurse animation from Oct 27 that got 31.4K likes.
The same account also takes brand sponsorships (an October compression-sock post tagged #ํ์ฐฌ, sponsored). In early November she began steering her nurse followers toward her next app, ๋ํผ (fridge ingredient management and YouTube recipe organizing), and every caption ends with ใ์ฑ์คํ ์ด์์ '๋ํผ' ๊ฒ์ใ (search 'Nengkeum' in the App Store).
Beyond that there's no other channel. TikTok, X, Reddit, Product Hunt and the press show no trace of this app.
Where the money comes from: not the tools, but the pets and rooms
Nursing tools are hard to monetize. The app started with a subscription, and in Sep 19 a bad review said ใ์นด์นด์คํก ๊ตฌ๊ธ ๋ก๊ทธ์ธ ๋ค ์๋จ.... ๊ฒฐ์ ๊น์ง ํ๋๋ฐใ (KakaoTalk and Google login both brokenโฆ I even paid). The support page still says, "If you subscribed before, cancel in your store's subscription settings." In early October it changed course: all tools are free, and money comes from a social and pet-raising layer on top.
- Raise a puppy and spend gold dressing it.
- Decorate your room with holiday "Editions": Halloween, Pepero Day, firefighters, police, and a nurse's hospital bed.
- Visit coworkers' rooms to play gomoku, flip-disc games, pushing games and puppy races, betting gold.
- AI photo pill identification and pet chat have free daily uses. Past that, they cost gold.
- Gold can be earned by watching rewarded video ads (up to 5 a day, 2 each) or bought. On Android, single in-app purchases run $2.09 to $44.99, and there are banner ads.
Why would nurses visit coworkers' rooms? Because shift schedules are meant to be shared. People on the same ward need to know who is working when. The app lets friends view monthly schedules, sends a push when "next month's schedule is out," and shows each pet's owner's shift for the day beside its name. The Nov 6 1.4.25 version added a one-tap invite link: tap it and you're friends and in the room. A solo scheduling tool thus gained a reason to pull coworkers in.
After switching to gold, it held a steady top-30 spot on the Korean Medical Top Grossing chart. But that chart's bar is low. In Nov 6 its neighbors included the pregnancy app ๋ง๋ฏธํก, the snoring tracker SnoreLab, and Complete Anatomy. The app itself had only 15 ratings, adding 3 per week. To hold the Korean medical top 30 spot, a few paying users is enough. Actual revenue isn't visible, but it's likely in the range of several to a dozen small in-app purchases a day (inference).
Users who stay ask for deeper features. In Oct 11 a 5-star review read (Please make a widget that takes up two rows and shows two weeks of duties). In Nov 2 a 4-star review said ใ์์ ฏํ ๋ ์ผ์ ๋ ๊ฐ์ด ๋ณด์์ผ๋ฉด ์ข๊ฒ ์ต๋๋คใ (I'd like the widget to show my schedule too).
Who it's competing with
The nurse-scheduling niche in Korea is already crowded:
| Product | Launched | Scale | Compared with Nursing |
|---|---|---|---|
| ๋ง์ด๋ํฐ(MyDuty) | 2015 | Korean iOS ratings 11,938 | Long-running nurse scheduling diary, far larger scale, only scheduling and a diary |
| ๊ต๋์ | 2014 | Korean iOS ratings 27,156 | For all shift workers, not just nurses |
| Ooff ad-free shift calendar | 2026-07 | 75 ratings | Pure utility |
| Nursely, ์ฌํํธ์, ์ธ๋ฆผ and others | 2025โ2026 | 6โ13 ratings | Solo-developer nurse / shift tools with no promotion |
| ๋์ค๋น๋ฆฌ์ง, ๋์ค์ผ์ , ๋์ค๋ท | 2023โ2025 | Android 13kโ25k installs | Nurse recruiting, hospital reviews, community |
| ๋ํฐ๋ฉ์ด์ปค, ๋ํฐ๋ฉ์ดํธ | 2025โ | Unknown | Web-based, auto-scheduling for head nurses |
(Korean App Store ratings, 11-06; Google Play install counts.)
The most telling evidence is the row of solo-developer products with single-digit ratings. Functionally they're close to Nursing. What they lack is a nurse account with tens of thousands of likes. Nursing's tools are detailed, but that isn't why it took off. Its tools only determine whether the people who arrive stay. It succeeded through two things: the author's own traffic, and gold-based pet-raising built on "coworkers seeing each other's schedules." I haven't seen anyone copy the "nurse scheduling + pet-raising" combination.
If it were you
C: there's something to learn, but copying it isn't worth much. Its traction came from the author's nurse account with tens of thousands of likes, which followers can't replicate. The app itself is small (1,225 Android installs, 15 ratings), and its chart position mostly shows how low the bar is in Korea's medical category. The two real takeaways are how someone with a vertical audience can turn followers into downloads with comment-for-link posts, and how a low-willingness-to-pay profession tool can sell gold by leaning on the social ties that already exist in the job.
Who it suits: people who already run a content account in a profession's community (nurses, flight attendants, firefighters, police, pharmacists, shift workers), or indie developers who can partner and split revenue with such a creator; solo teams that use AI to write code and can ship close to daily.
Who it doesn't suit: anyone with no vertical audience who plans to rely on store search for nurse scheduling (the single-digit-rated Korean clones show how that ends), and anyone who wants to make money from subscriptions (the developer tried that and dropped it).
How to do it: change the country or the profession, not the model. First confirm that your target audience has the "coworkers need to see each other's schedules" social tie. Japanese and Taiwanese nurses on three-shift rotations are the closest fit. The developer has already built firefighter and police room decor, suggesting they're also eyeing other shift-work groups. Keep the tool layer fully free and genuinely useful (shift-specific checklists, reliable alarms, a schedule widget). Charge only for pet-raising, cosmetics and friend mini-games, using one-time gold purchases plus rewarded ads, and skip subscriptions.
How to acquire users: if you don't have an account, find one. Locate a creator in your target profession with tens of thousands of followers, and partner on revenue share or a buyout. She posts relatable content to attract new followers, then every few weeks posts "comment and I'll DM the link" to convert. Build one-tap invites into the app so coworkers can join each other's rooms, letting one ward bring in the next. Pack the store name with keywords like "essential for nurses," and niche categories in small countries have low bars, so climbing the chart earns free exposure.
When to launch: there's no hard deadline. Every spring a wave of new nurses starts work (in both Korea and Japan, 3โApril). New hires most need checklists and notes, so launching before then is ideal.
Wrong call: (1) Nursing's Android installs are still in the thousands and its ratings are still in the dozens by next year, so the "raise a pet, trade for coins" model doesn't scale in a work tool. The creator's audience was the whole game. (2) The creator partner posted a "comment to get the link" post, got thousands of comments, and still only turned them into a few hundred installs. That only works on the creator's personal trust. (3) Users only used the shift schedule and never went into rooms, and nobody clicked the invite link. That means the social graph in this niche is too weak to sell coins.

One line
A Korean nurse blogger (Instagram @dounniquet, "๋๋์ผ") built a nurse tool app for her followers: shift calendar, alarms, checklists split by day / evening / night shifts, work notes, and an IV drip-rate calculator. Nurses are unwilling to pay for tools, so she layered on social pet-raising: raise a puppy, decorate your room, and visit coworkers in a "break room" to play mini-games. Revenue comes from one-time coin purchases and rewarded video ads. Users came almost entirely from her own Instagram: first a "comment and I'll DM you the download link" post to kick off downloads, then a viral comedy Reel to bring in a wave of traffic.

Few ratings, yet it sat at 12โ64 on Top Grossing, which shows the Korea Medical Top Grossing bar is low: a few paying users are enough. 11-06 On the same chart around it were apps like ๋ง๋ฏธํก, SnoreLab, Complete Anatomy and ECG Buddy.
- Version updates came almost daily: 10-27 to 11-04, from 1.4.20 to 1.4.25. Two months after its September launch it had reached 1.4.x (app_snapshot).

| Early November | "Fridge app ๋ํผ" long-form post | โ | โ | Use the same account to funnel traffic to the author's next App |
How to read this data:
- More comments than likes: this is the "comment for a link" play: the "์ผ๋จ ๋ฐ๊ณ ๋ด์" comment has 4,366 comments and 2,976 likes; the "goat" one has 1.7K comments and 262 likes. The comment section is almost all ๐, and the author replies "Right now only Android works, iPhone coming soon." This is the common Korean Instagram move of "comment ๐ and I'll DM you the link": comment counts climb, the algorithm pushes it to more people, and each comment is roughly one download intent. As of November, these posts from over a month ago were still picking up new ๐ comments (1 days ago, 3 hours ago), which means either steady organic traffic or paid Instagram boosts. I couldn't verify the boosts: our metaads library doesn't index this Page, and the Meta Ad Library page wouldn't scrape.
- Viral content drives the acquisition: 10-27's male nurse animation (31k likes) went out, and four days later both stores pushed 100 new users into the Medical free chart's top 10 at once (iOS #10 on 10-31, Android #10 on 11-02, +582 Android installs in one day). The timing points to the post driving the chart move, but both platforms rising together at the same time is hard to explain with organic store traffic alone.
- No other channels: TikTok (TikHub), X (x-radar, 90 days), and Brave / Exa turned up no discussion of this App; no press coverage, no Product Hunt.
3. Why users stay and why they pay
- The tools fit the nurse's actual job: a checklist that auto-switches by shift (DAY/EVE/NIGHT), a "work notes" section for what new nurses learn, drip-rate calculation for 20 gtt/mL IV sets with the formula cited, shift and holiday hour tracking, and on iOS 26 system-level alarms via AlarmKit (nurses dread missing a shift alarm). User comments ask for widgets and a two-week schedule widget (10-11, 11-02), the kind of request only comes from people who use it heavily.
- Schedules are inherently social: nurses on the same ward already check each other's rotas. The App lets friends view each other's monthly schedules, pushes "next month's schedule is out," and shows each person's shift next to their puppy. That gives a solo scheduling tool a reason to invite coworkers (1.4.25: send an invite link, add friends in one step and enter the room).
- Users pay for the pet and social side, not the tools: the tools are all free. Coins buy outfits for the puppy and room "Editions" (Halloween, Pepero Day, firefighter, police, hospital / nurse ward). In friends' rooms, players bet coins on Gomoku, shuffleboard, pushing, and puppy races. AI pill-identification and pet chat have a daily free allowance, after which they cost coins. Rewarded videos are capped at 5 a day, 2 coins each. Android in-app purchases run $2.09โ$44.99 each.
- The monetization model changed once: the support page says "If you subscribed before, please cancel in the store's subscription settings," and a 9-19 one-star review says "I paid but can't log in." It started as a subscription, then shifted to "free tools + one-time coin purchases" (privacy policy version 10-03 added banner ads and coin top-ups). After the switch, the Top Grossing rank held steady in the top 30.
- Updates come almost daily: each set of release notes adds a new feature (10-30 coins linked to accounts โ 11-02 pet lounge โ 11-03 four board games and holiday Editions โ 11-04 room redesign โ 11-04 cabin village and a shared coin-funded garden). A one-person team moving this fast is most likely AI-assisted coding (the support page hosted on chatgpt.site supports this).

| System calendar / TimeTree | Big-company / general-purpose | โ | Huge | Can store shifts, but has no nurse-specific shift types, checklists, or social features |
Verdict: the nurse scheduling niche is crowded, and the incumbent ๋ง์ด๋ํฐ has tens of thousands of ratings. Nursing doesn't win on tools. Its difference is twofold: the author's own nurse Instagram works as a distribution channel, and "scheduling + coworkers" is turned into a social pet game that monetizes.
5. Differentiation, and whether that's why it broke out
- Difference one: the author is a nurse creator with an existing audience. Relatable and comedy Reels get tens of thousands of likes, and "comment for a link" posts get thousands of comments. Comparable indie developers (Nursely, ์ฌํํธ์, etc.) have single-digit ratings, and that's exactly what they lack. This is the main reason it took off.
- Difference two: it finds revenue for a low-willingness-to-pay tool through coworker scheduling, social pet-raising, and coins. The Korea Medical Top Grossing bar is low: with 15 ratings it sits at #12โ30, powered by this coin economy. This is why it reached the grossing chart, but it hasn't scaled, and DAU is unknown.
- The tools themselves (shift-based checklists, work notes, IV calculator) are well done, but other apps have them too. They aren't why it took off. They only determine whether users stay.
6. How many people see it right now
- Revenue isn't public (no TrustMRR listing, and the author hasn't shared figures). No coverage in press, on X, Reddit, or Product Hunt. Only store-data aggregators like apptail and storeintel index it.
- But the author's Instagram has spread widely in Korean nursing and nursing-student circles (62k likes on a single post). Verdict: it's circulating in a small circle, and almost nobody outside knows about it.
- Copycats: no product found copying the "nurse scheduling + pet raising" formula.
7. What others can learn
- Build the vertical audience first, then the product: one account handles relatable content (acquiring followers), "comment for a link" posts (conversion), sponsored ad slots (monetization), and funnels traffic to the next App (the author already uses the nurse audience to promote the fridge app ๋ํผ).
- For low-willingness-to-pay occupational tools, skip subscriptions and sell emotion and social features: turn the social ties already present in the job (checking the ward's schedule together) into friend rooms and mini-games, and earn through coins and holiday skins. This can be copied for other shift groups (Japanese or Taiwanese nurses, firefighters, police, flight attendants; it has already shipped firefighter and police Editions).
- AI-coding speed for daily updates: one new feature a day, logged in release notes, creates the sense for fans that something new arrives every day.
- Small countries and niche categories have low Top Grossing bars: making the Korea Medical Top Grossing top 30 takes only a small number of paying users.
8. Still unclear
- Instagram follower count, and whether there are paid promotion posts (metaads doesn't index this Page, and the ad library page wouldn't scrape).
- Actual revenue and DAU. Chart rank is only a relative signal, and the Korea Medical bar in dollar terms is unclear.
- The direct cause of 10-31's climb: a viral Reel, 10-30's 1.4.21 version (coins tied to accounts, AI pill identification), and possibly paid promotion. The three can't be separated.
- Whether the pet and social mechanics keep people long-term, and how expensive moderating community content will be.
