# Searched "힉스필드" and got not Higgsfield, but how a Korean solo developer caught what the big brand didn't ship

**What it is** An AI app where you pick a viral template and add one photo to get a vertical short video. In the Korean store it uses Higgsfield's Korean name outright and charges a weekly subscription.

**Why it took off** Higgsfield took off in Korea via creators, but it has only a web version and no app. This app took the Korean original name to hold store search, catching people who thought they were downloading Higgsfield.

**C** **How you could follow it** Don't ride a brand name. Copy its instinct for finding "AI capabilities that blew up overseas with no matching local-store app," then build templated apps in the local language around the capability's name, and pay local creators who are already teaching it to bring users.

C grade: the traffic came entirely from borrowing another brand's name while the real product had no app yet. Copying it is trademark infringement and misleading consumers, and the window will close. The topic selection and localized store-search ideas are worth learning, but following it directly isn't worth it. Few people know about it yet

Higgsfield's September announcement put it past $1B in annualized revenue, and Korean creators teach people daily to make viral short videos with it, but it has no mobile app. Korean solo developer Thing Apps renamed a generic AI video shell in the Korean store "힉스필드 Video AI," so people searching the term land there, and people still buy the ₩24,900 weekly subscription. It grew by name, not because the product did much. The move is understandable, but not recommended to copy.

### "Thought it was Higgsfield, so I hit subscribe"

On Oct 29, a user signing as "몽구 엄마" gave it 1 stars in the Korean App Store, titled "truly the worst":

> I thought it was Higgsfield and hit subscribe, my bad ㅠㅠ Please refund me

This isn't an isolated case. In the ten days around it, more Korean reviews said "this isn't the Higgsfield I know" (10-21), "fake Higgsfield" (10-23, titled "like a phone scam"), and "not the Higgsfield I knew either" (10-18). The day before, on Oct 28, another user did the math: "other apps are 6,600 won a week, this one charges 24,900, I figured expensive meant good quality, but I made 2 videos (not 3) and ran out of credits."

As of Nov 6, it has 45 ratings in the Korean App Store, averaging 2.42 stars. The two most common complaints are that users were misled, and that they want refunds.

### What it is

A photo-to-vertical AI short video app. The first line of its store page reads "저장만 해둔 그 릴, 이번엔 네가 나올 차례" (That Reel you only saved, this time it's your turn to star). You pick a format that's already trending (travel, fancam, pets, birthdays, "quiet luxury"), add your own photo, and in a few minutes get a vertical video for Reels, TikTok or Shorts, no prompt writing. Opening it hits the paywall, and the Pro subscription tops up credits weekly.

The same app is called "Highfield AI Video Generator" on the US store and "Highfield AI動画生成" on the Japan store (iTunes, 11-06). Its Android package name is com.omnivideoai.app, and its terms-of-service link still reads `terms-of-use-omni-video-ai`. So it was originally called "Omni Video AI", a generic shell that was later renamed to chase a trend.

### How big it is now

| Platform | Number (11-06) |
|---|---|
| App Store Korea | Launched 9-18; ratings grew from 10-28 to 20 in 45 (+20 in a week); Photo & Video Top Free ranks 15–23, Top Grossing ranks 23–29, charted every day since 10-28 |
| App Store US / Japan stores | 1 ratings / 0 ratings, barely any volume |
| Google Play | Launched 9-13, 19,873 total installs, +10,245 in the last 7 days; since late October about 1,000 installs a day, around 10-29 roughly 1,600 installs/day (estimate, third-party backfilled data); Korea utilities Top Grossing ranks 19–26; in-app purchases $16.99–54.99 |

The main battleground is Korean Android. Neither Apple nor Google discloses revenue, but it has sat in the top 20 of both stores' Top Grossing charts, so people have been paying all along. A third party estimates monthly revenue around 1,000 US dollars, but that figure doesn't match the actual Play install numbers, so treat it as a floor (unverified).

### Why this one, and why now

**The demand was created by someone else.** In September 2026, Higgsfield announced on its official blog that annualized revenue had passed $1B. At the same time, Korean Reels/TikTok creators posted a flood of tutorials titled "요즘 유행하는 ○○ 영상 제작법" (how to make the trending ○○ video), ending with the line "주요 어플: Higgsfield AI" (main app: Higgsfield AI). For example, @reels_drgn on TikTok, with 14.8k followers, had a September 10 video reach 135k views. The tutorials used the word "어플" (app), so viewers' first instinct was to search the store.

**The real product has no app.** Higgsfield's help center is clear: the only official platform is the website higgsfield.ai. So searching "힉스필드" in the App Store and Google Play turns up no legitimate result.

**It uses the Korean original name.** Before it, others had already used the English near-homophone "Highfield" to spread worldwide: Passio Technology's Highfield Genjutsu AI (launched 2025-07, charted in the lower half of free charts in several 40 stores, with only 45 ratings even in Brazil, its biggest market), and Metro Air's Highfield Video AI (2026-08, single-digit ratings). Neither gained traction. This one targets only Korea and uses the Korean "힉스필드" directly, making it the only app with that name in the two Korean stores (App Store and Google Play search, 11-06).

**High-priced weekly subscription, collect the first payment.** People came in with a clear goal, thinking they were downloading Higgsfield, and paid when they hit the paywall. With ratings of 2.4 and a pile of refund complaints, it still captured first-week money, which is why it held its Top Grossing rank.

**The product works, but that's not the reason.** One 5-star review says "I've tried every other app, and only this one generates properly" (11-02), and a September 19 review says "Before, I could only watch AI videos other people made; now I can tap once with my own photo." But reviews after 10-18 are almost all 1-star, and one says "I uploaded my own photo and got someone else's face" (10-20).

### Where users are coming from

- **Store search** (confirmed): the reviews above are the evidence.

- **Recommendations in creator posts** (partly confirmed): one 10-22 review says the user downloaded it after seeing a "creator sharing cute AI video prompts and telling people to use this app." Whether the creator thought it was Higgsfield or was paid is unclear.

- **Guide articles** (confirmed to exist): the Korean guide blog dasfl.com published 10-26 a post titled "힉스필드 Video AI 가이드(설치부터 사용법까지)" (Higgsfield Video AI guide, from installation to use), stating it is "띵앱스 (Thing Apps)'s service" and telling Android users to search for the name on Play. The blog covers all kinds of apps, and in the same period it also wrote about Toss and Shinhan SOL, so it doesn't look like the developer's own site. Whether it was paid sponsored content or the blogger chasing a trend is unknown.

- **Ads** (unverified): A Korean consumer complaint site, goso.co.kr, has a post from 10-29 saying that after downloading the "힉스필드 ai 영상제작 앱" app via 10-23, they bought a weekly plan, and "the app doesn't match what the ads show." Google won't refund, and the developer doesn't reply to emails. This suggests the app may have run ads, or the complaint may be about Higgsfield's own promotion being mistaken for its ads.

### This developer isn't doing this for the first time

Dongwon Ahn (띵앱스 / Thing Apps) is an individual Korean developer who has been making apps since 2018. Early on he made an Instagram repost tool, "Repost AI / 멀티 리그램" (1.36M installs on Play).

An even clearer example is another app: **"Nano Banana: AI Art & 3D Maker"** . In the fall of 2025, Google's Nano Banana image model went viral, but it could only be used inside Gemini and had no standalone app, so in October 11 this developer released an app under that name. To date it has 225k installs on Play and sits at #35 in the Korea lifestyle Top Grossing chart (Google Play, 11-06); the iOS version has since been renamed "Nanaba AI 나나바".

The same move, used twice in one year: find an AI brand that is hot but has no app, rename an existing shell to its name, and catch the store searches.

### Who it's competing with

| Product | Scale | Compared with alternatives |
|---|---|---|
| Higgsfield (the real one) | Annualized revenue $1B (official, 2026-09) | Web only; you have to write prompts and pick models. The day it ships an app, this app has no reason to exist. |
| AI Catch(AI 캐치) | Korea store Photo & Video Top Grossing #13,408 | Template-style image-to-video, under its own brand |
| bake: AI 숏폼 만들기 | Launched 9-08, Korea Photo & Video Top Free #9 | Korean local peers in the same category, not riding a name |
| Pollo AI | US 13.6k ratings, Korea category Top Grossing #39 | A legitimate multi-model AI video app |
| Passio and Metro Air's "Highfield" series | Dozens of ratings or single digits | Predecessors using the same play, spread in English worldwide, which didn't take off |
| HIC BRICKWORK's "Highfield AI" (Play) | 180 installs, 11-04 entered the Korea Art & Design Top Free chart at #38 | Newer followers |
| CapCut / Dreamina, Meitu, SNOW | Front of the Korea category charts | Big companies all have image-to-video templates, but they don't appear when you search "힉스필드" |

"No prompts, pick a template, add a photo" is a selling point everyone has. The only thing that sets this one apart is its name.

### If it were you

**One-line verdict** : understand why it took off, but don't copy it. It earns money by intercepting other brands' search traffic and making users think they're buying the real product. That's trademark infringement plus consumer deception, it could be taken down at any time after complaints, and the window closes the day Higgsfield launches an app.

**Who it's for** : small teams making AI tool apps that have a generic shell. Copy its topic-radar method: watch AI capabilities that are huge overseas but exist only as a website or inside other apps, with no local-store equivalent, then build a localized version that delivers results with one tap on a phone.

**Who it's not for** : anyone who wants a long-term business and to build ratings and reputation, and anyone thinking of using another brand's name as their app name. Apple's review guidelines 4.1 (copycats) and 5.2 (intellectual property) exist for exactly this, and Korea also has consumer complaints and card chargebacks waiting.

**How to build it** : use capability and scenario names, not brand names. For example "AI viral short video" or "turn a photo into a Reels in one tap", with titles and keywords in local languages like Korean, Japanese, or Thai. Update templates weekly in the format local creators are teaching right now. Don't copy its ₩24,900/week price; use the ₩6,600/week price of comparable apps mentioned in reviews, and offer one free trial generation to cut refunds and bad reviews.

**How to get users** : the part it didn't do itself. Find creators posting tutorials like "요즘 유행하는 영상 제작법", pay them to name your app directly in the tutorial, and back it with a few local-language how-to articles to catch search traffic.

**When to move** : the earlier the better, but its window depends on the real product. Once Higgsfield publishes an official app or begins mass complaints about copycats, all the small apps riding this demand will cool off together (inference).

**Signs you've misread this** : ① six months from now it's still inside the top 30 of Korea's Top Grossing chart and hasn't been removed, which would mean Apple and Google are turning a blind eye to renames like this, making this path more stable than this analysis suggests; ② a Korean template video app that doesn't ride any name (such as bake) breaks into the top 20 of the Photo & Video Top Grossing chart in the same period, which would mean the legitimate "localization + creators" approach is the one worth doing; ③ after Higgsfield launches a mobile app, installs for it and the several "Highfield" apps halve within a month, which would mean this kind of money is one-time.

Where users come from

- **Verified** **Store search keyword capture (riding the Higgsfield brand name)** : the KR store name is literally "힉스필드 Video AI"; reviews keep saying "I subscribed thinking it was Higgsfield", "fake Higgsfield", "this isn't the Higgsfield I knew" (appstore lib review table, 10-18 to 10-29)

- **Verified** **Korean Reels/TikTok creators doing demand education for the real brand** : @reels_drgn posted "주요 어플: Higgsfield AI" tutorials from 9 through October; the 9-10 one got 135k views (TikHub). The tutorials call it an "어플" (app), so viewers go search the store.

- Inferred **Traffic from creators sharing prompts** : a 10-22 review says: "I downloaded it because an influencer's AI video prompt sharing post told us to use this app". Unclear whether it was paid.

- **Verified** **SEO guide article** : dasfl.com's 2026-10-26 "힉스필드 Video AI 가이드" states it's a 띵앱스 product and directs users to search Play; dasfl is a generic guide site, not the app's own site.

- Inferred **Paid ads** : a complaint on goso.co.kr 10-29 says "the app's setup is different from the ad"; Meta's Ad Library doesn't include Thing Apps.

## 힉스필드 Video AI (ios_6808443618): a photo-to-viral-short-video app carrying the Korean name "Higgsfield"

> Regions checked: the App Store was scanned across all storefronts (this app has only charted in kr), with focus on kr; the same app on Google Play (com.omnivideoai.app). Data as of 2026-11-06.

### Bottom line

Higgsfield announced in September 2026 that its annualized revenue passed $1B, and Korean Reels creators kept posting "주요 어플: Higgsfield AI" tutorials. But **Higgsfield itself has no mobile app** (its help center says the only official platform is the higgsfield.ai website). The Korean indie developer Dongwon Ahn (띵앱스 / Thing Apps) got there first by renaming the app's KR-store name to "힉스필드", capturing users searching for "힉스필드" in the store, then monetizing with a high-priced weekly subscription (reviews mention ₩24,900/week). It worked because of **capturing a big brand's search term + a platform gap** , not because of the product: rating 2.42, and most negative reviews are "I subscribed thinking it was Higgsfield, need a refund".

### 1. Data: how big it is now

- **iOS KR store** (appstore lib): listed 2026-09-18. Rating count rose from 10-28 to 20 and then to 11-06 45, +20 in the last 7 days, average 2.42 stars (iTunes lookup, 11-06). In the "Photo & Video" free chart it sat around #15–23, and **in the same category's Top Grossing chart at #23–29** (it was on the chart every day from 10-28 to 11-06). Elsewhere it has almost no traction: in the US store it's called "Highfield AI Video Generator" with only 1 ratings; in the Japan store it's "Highfield AI動画生成" with 0 ratings.

- **Google Play** (googleplay lib, package com.omnivideoai.app, developer Thing Apps): first listed 2026-09-13, **19,873 installs, +10,245 in the last 7 days** . Historical data from AppstoreSpy shows roughly 1,000 installs/day from 10-22, and about 1,600 installs/day around 10-29. In the KR "Tools" Top Grossing chart it ranked #19–26; on the free chart it slid from #94 to #197. In-app purchases $16.99–54.99.

- The main battlefield is Android (high Android share in Korea): on Play, +10k installs in one week, while the iOS rating count grew only +20 that week.

- Revenue: neither Apple nor Google discloses it. The iOS KR Photo & Video Top Grossing chart at #20 and the Play KR Tools Top Grossing chart at #20 both suggest it's making money. A recalled figure attributed to AppSprint estimates about 1K downloads/month and about $1K revenue/month (unverified; the download number is clearly lower than Play's actual data).

| Highfield Video AI(Metro Air Service) | iOS | 2026-08-04 | Dozens of stores charted in the lower ranks of the category, all with single-digit ratings | Same as above: spread worldwide with no localization, so it didn't gain traction |
| Pollo AI | iOS | 2025-01 | US 13,634 ratings; Korea Photo & Video Top Grossing #39 | A legitimate multi-model AI video app with its own brand; doesn't ride anyone's name |
| AI Catch(AI 캐치) | iOS | 2024-12 | Korea store Photo & Video Top Grossing #13,408 | Template-style AI video, same model, but using its own brand |

| CapCut / Dreamina, Meitu, SNOW family | Big-company features | — | Top photo & video chart spot in KR | Big-company apps all have image-to-video and templates, but they don't show up when users search "힉스필드" |

### 3. Where users come from

1. **Store search keyword capture (confirmed)** : the KR store name is "힉스필드 Video AI", and the same app id is called "Highfield" in the US and Japan stores. The real brand has no app, so when users search "힉스필드" in the store, this one comes up first. Negative reviews directly prove this path: "I'm the one to blame for pressing subscribe thinking it was Higgsfield" (10-29), "This isn't the Higgsfield I knew" (10-21), "Fake Higgsfield" (10-23), "Not even the Higgsfield I knew" (10-18) (appstore lib review table).

2. **Korean Reels/TikTok creators doing demand education for the real brand (confirmed, but not paid by the app)** : @reels_drgn (14.8k TikTok followers, claims 160k followers across all platforms) kept posting "요즘 유행하는 ○○ 영상 제작법 ✅ 주요 어플: Higgsfield AI" from September onward; the 9-10 one got 135k views (TikHub). The tutorial says "어플" (app), so viewers naturally search the store. It listed on 9-18, right in the middle of this wave.

3. **"Creator shares prompt" traffic (semi-confirmed)** : one 10-22 review says: "I downloaded it because an influencer's cute AI video prompt sharing post told us to use this app". Unclear whether the creator mistook it for the real brand, or whether the developer paid for the collaboration.

4. **SEO and guide articles (confirmed to exist, but not the app's own site)** : dasfl.com published "힉스필드 Video AI 가이드 (설치부터 사용법까지)" on 2026-10-26, stating it is a service "from 띵앱스", and even told Android users to search Play for "힉스필드 Video AI" ([original text](https://dasfl.com/entry/%ED%9E%89%EC%8A%A4%ED%95%84%EB%93%9C-video-ai-%EA%B0%80%EC%9D%B4%EB%93%9C)). But dasfl is a generic guide blog that covers any app; the same period also had posts on Toss, Shinhan SOL, and Meta AI. The recall card calls it a "self-run SEO blog", which **does not hold up** ; it looks more like paid advertorial content or a site owner chasing a trend.

5. **Ad (unverified)** : On 10-29, a complaint on Korea's consumer reporting site says 10-23 downloaded "힉스필드 ai 영상제작 앱" and bought a weekly plan, but the app was "not what the ad showed." Google wouldn't refund, and the developer didn't reply to emails ([goso.co.kr](https://www.goso.co.kr/bbs/board.php?bo_table=testDB&wr_id=1576716)). "Not what the ad showed" suggests they ran ads, though the complaint may also be mixing up the parent brand's promotion with this app. Our Meta ad library doesn't cover Thing Apps, and we only crawl keywords for the US, GB, DE and JP, so not finding ads here doesn't mean there were none.

### 4. How the money comes back

Free to download, a paywall on open, sells weekly subscriptions. Reviews say "other apps are 6600 won a week but this one is 24900 won" and "it makes 2 videos, not 3, so that's it" (10-28), and "it auto-charged 3 thousand won right after installing" (10-18, possibly trial-to-paid or a payment prompt). Play in-app purchases $16.99–54.99. The whole model: the big brand's search term brings high-intent users, who think they're buying the real product and pay a high one-time weekly price. Refund complaints don't stop the first payment, so reviews are poor (2.4) while chart rankings hold.

### 5. The developer: this playbook has been used more than once

Dongwon Ahn / Thing Apps (띵앱스) is a Korean indie developer who has been shipping apps since 2018:

- "Repost AI / 멀티 리그램" (1.36M installs on Play) is an early Instagram tool;

- **"Nano Banana: AI Art & 3D Maker"** (Play xyz.thingapps.banana, listed 2025-10-11, 225k installs, KR Lifestyle Top Grossing #35) uses **the same playbook** : Google's Nano Banana image model went viral in the autumn of 2025 and was only usable inside Gemini, with no standalone app, so it made an app under that name. The iOS version is now called "Nanaba AI 나나바" with 333 ratings (appstore lib).

- There are also ReelAuto AI, SkinTone AI, 칼로리 AI, Coffee Lab AI, and others; 15 apps in total on iOS (appstore lib app table).

- This app's terms link is still `terms-of-use-omni-video-ai`, and the package is com.omnivideoai.app, meaning it started as "Omni Video AI", a generic shell that was later renamed "힉스필드 / Highfield" to ride the trend.

Takeaway: this is an **indie developer portfolio that renames apps to ride viral AI brands** . Name-riding is a repeated tactic, not a one-off.

### 6. Why it broke out

- **Timing** : Higgsfield announced $1B annualized revenue in September 2026, and Korean creators posted a flood of "힉스필드" tutorials at the same time (@reels_drgn's series from 9 through October, up to 135k views), so search demand suddenly appeared.

- **Platform gap** : the real brand has no iOS or Android app (its help center and [flashloop](https://www.flashloop.ai/blog/higgsfield-app) both say so), so a store search for "힉스필드" has no official result to show.

- **Localized term capture** : Passio and Metro Air use "Highfield", a global English near-homophone that didn't gain traction. This one uses the original Korean name "힉스필드" directly to hold the KR market, and is the only app using that name in Korea (only it turned up in appstore lib and googleplay lib searches).

- **High-priced weekly subscription** : high-intent users come in and pay a high price once, which keeps it on the Top Grossing chart at #20+.

- **The product is just "good enough"** : one 5-star review says "I tried other apps, and this is the only one that generates properly" (11-02); template-style "one photo into a viral template" is indeed simpler than the real brand's web tool. But retention and word of mouth are poor, and after 10-18 nearly all reviews are 1 stars.

### 7. Differentiation

"No prompt needed, pick a format that's already viral, add one photo, get a vertical video": AI Catch, Pollo, and the Meitu family offer this too, so it isn't unique. Its only real difference is the **name** : it's the only app in the Korean store called "힉스필드". That is why it took off, and it's name-riding, not product strength.

### 8. How many people know, and whether anyone is copying

- **Awareness: still few people know** . No media or X accounts with big followings have written about it (x-radar searches for "힉스필드 앱" and "Highfield AI Video" each returned 0 posts), revenue isn't public, and the evidence is one guide blog, one consumer complaint, and store reviews. "Higgsfield has lots of knockoff apps" is common knowledge in the English-speaking world (flashloop, higgsfieldsai.com, and nitidezza.it have all published anti-scam guides).

- **Copycats** : Highfield AI by HIC BRICKWORK LTD on the Play Store (vip.hicbrickwork.ai.highfield, updated 10-30, entered the Korean store's Art & Design free chart at #38,180 from 11-04) is a fresh follower. Passio and Metro Air's Highfield series on iOS came earlier, so it isn't copying this one. They're the same play's forerunners. There's also "Prompts for HiggsfieldAI Video" (2026-10-07) riding the same keyword.

### 9. What to borrow

- Look for AI brands that go huge but only exist as a website or inside someone else's app, with no standalone app (Higgsfield and early Nano Banana were both like this). Take the **local-language name** to own the store search terms, then wrap it in a templated shell. This developer has already done it twice.

- One generic shell (Omni Video AI) gets renamed per country and per trend, so the build cost is close to zero.

- The risk is clear: a trademark complaint can take it down at any time. Apple reviews "impersonating another brand" (Guideline 4.1 / 5.2), there are many refund complaints, and consumers are filing reports. This is short-term arbitrage, not a business you can run for the long haul.

### 10. Uncertain

- Whether it runs ads (the goso post is only an indirect clue; Meta Ad Library has no record).

- Whether the "blogger shares prompts" traffic is a paid partnership or the blogger got it wrong.

- Actual revenue: we only have chart ranks. AppSprint's estimate is unverified.

- When Higgsfield files a trademark complaint or launches its own app. Once it does, this app loses its reason to exist.

- Whether the dasfl guide is paid or the site owner wrote it voluntarily.
