A first-year middle schooler wanted someone to check their golf swing, but tapping it opened a companion live-chat host: the truth behind Japan's "golf" app シロップ
What it is A Japanese adult points-based video chat app disguised as a golf scoring tool. Men spend points to message and video-chat with female hosts, at roughly ¥344 per minute of video.
Why it took off After the same operator was wiped from the App Store in early September, it relaunched in 9-18 under a new individual developer account and a "golf" shell. Stuffing the title with "ビデオ通話" and "見せ合い" captures search traffic, and listing it in the low-barrier lifestyle free chart with about 10 ratings a day kept it hovering around #100.
EHow you could follow Don't. What you could take away is choosing a chart by category barrier, writing search terms into the title, and using free signup points as a first-purchase hook. If you really want to build something, make a real "watch your swing / remote coach" app under Sports.

Japan App Store, lifestyle free chart, around #100, featuring a golf app called "シロップ": the store page lists scoring, practice plans and club management, and lets you watch swings with golf buddies over video. Once installed, you find it's an adult chat app where men buy points by the minute to video-chat with companion live hosts (チャットレディ). It launched in Sep 18, and by Nov 6 had 340 ratings. But it isn't one product that broke out; it's an operator whose apps were all pulled by Apple, which relaunched under a new account wearing golf clothes.
"I'm a first-year middle schooler learning golf"
In Nov 1, a comment appeared on シロップ's review page: "ゴルフを習っている中1ですが、自分のフォームを見てもらおうと思いインストールしましたが、女の人が映っていてビックリしました。変なアプリかもしれません。" ("I'm a middle schooler learning golf. I installed this hoping someone would check my form, but a woman appeared on screen and I was surprised. It might be a weird app."), a first-year middle schooler who wanted swing feedback and got a woman on screen.
This is one of only 3 text reviews among 340 ratings (Japan App Store review page, 11-06). The other two were just "いいね" ("nice") and one titled "通知入りすぎ" ("too many notifications").
The adult-app review blog "出会い警察" (deaipolice.com) tested it in Sep 22: after signup, the first screen read "当アプリは大人向けチャットアプリです" ("This app is an adult chat app") and "可愛い女性を探し" ("looking for cute women"); two hours after logging in it had received 200+ messages, none about golf. The scoring features and average-strokes line graph described in the listing don't exist on the page at all.
The store page is written to look like a real golf tool
シロップ's listing is quite polished: a countdown to the next round, a pre-departure checklist ("balls, gloves, tees, rain gear"), large buttons for entering strokes and putts hole by hole, a three-stage "discover – practice – overcome" skill tracker, and a small line graph of average strokes over the last 5 rounds. Only at the end does it lightly mention video-watching swings with mutual-follow golf buddies.
The title is "ビデオ通話で見せ合いショット!" ("Video-call swing show-offs!"). "ビデオ通話" and "見せ合い" are terms people looking for this kind of adult video chat in Japan actually search for; the decoy word "ショット" (shot) makes it look like a legitimate use.
Apple wasn't fully kept in the dark on this one: the age rating is 17+, and the app self-declared "frequent/intense sexual content or nudity" (iTunes, 11-06). What it deceived was the description and screenshots, not the rating. But a rating can't stop a seventh-grader using a parent's phone who really does want to practice their golf swing.
Where the money comes from
Everything is points, with top-ups through Apple in-app purchase. Pricing listed by Deai Police:
| Action | Points | approx. JPY |
|---|---|---|
| Send messages, stickers, view images, listen to voice | 60pt / times | 73 |
| Watch a video | 160pt | 196 |
| Voice call | 160pt / minute | 196 |
| Video call | 280pt / minute | 344 |
Sign-up gives about 300 points, but the points generally can't be used for calls. Another review blog, deainoinfo (9-23), says it has no operating company or address and none of the disclosures Japan's 特定商取引法 requires, and that the customer service is an AI. Deaipolice compares it with FANZA's webcam chat, which costs about 150 yen a minute; シロップ costs more than double that.
The hostesses are contracted to the operator and earn commission on the points the man spends, so new users get bombarded with hundreds of messages right away. Each reply costs 73 yen, and whoever gets you to talk first earns the money.
This is actually the second round.
Deaipolice has been tracking this operator for months. The shells before September were "recipe comparison" apps; in early September, "it seems Apple got angry," and every app was removed from the App Store. Within two weeks, the same product came back in new outfits, each under a new individual developer account that holds only this one app:
| Shell | Launched | Category | Rating (App Store Japan store, 11-06) | New in the last 7 days |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| パパイヤ: video-chat practice your poses | 9-14 | Health & Fitness | 344 | +58 |
| シロップ: video-chat your golf swing | 9-18 | Lifestyle | 337 | +68 |
| ジョーカー: video-chat your cleaning | 10-01 | Lifestyle | 276 | +89 |
| カシュー: video-chat your favorite things | 10-27 | Photo & Video | 48 | +48 |
The first three Deaipolice shells were confirmed as the same operator. カシュー uses an identical naming format, but whether it's the same operator is unverified. Three or four shells are live at once, so one being removed doesn't wipe them all out; together they add about 260 new ratings a week.
How it stays on the charts
シロップ has only charted in the Japan store's Lifestyle Free chart, bouncing between #10-28 and #11-06 in the 87–111 range, with 2 to 15 new ratings a day, averaging about 10. The bar for that spot is that low. The real golf apps, GDO Score (228k ratings) and Rakuten Golf Score Management (123k), are in Sports. シロップ doesn't sit there and doesn't compete with them.
The 340 ratings include only 3 written reviews, which most likely means stars that the app prompts for often (inference; a sister shell, ジョーカー, has a user complaining "it asks me to rate every time I switch screens"). The average is 4.16, slowly rising.
The visible acquisition comes only from store search and the "users who viewed this also viewed" section. The recommendations at the bottom of the シロップ page are ジョーカー, SUKIRI, ワンダー and the rest of the same disguised lookalikes, which funnel users to each other. Deaipolice says it "pulls men exclusively from shady web ads," but no specific ads were found, and a search on X turns up nothing.
How much it earns
Can't tell, most likely not much. In 10 days it never once entered any Top Grossing chart; the top 40 in Lifestyle Top Grossing are Tinder, Badoo, and fortune-telling apps, and シロップ isn't among them. The disguised lookalikes that are already making money are a different set: ビデオ通話 Carina (ranked #42 in Social Top Grossing), 筋トレ見せあい Sakura (#72 in Entertainment Top Grossing), and KAKERU 見せ合いランニング (#52 in Social Top Grossing). KANADE, which doesn't disguise itself and is listed straight under Social, ranks #14 in Social Top Grossing (App Store Japan store, 11-06). シロップ is one of the smaller shells in this niche.
The Japan store has more than thirty apps with 「見せ合い」 in the name, and new ones keep appearing each month: POPAI, which launched in Nov 1, is "video-chat your table tennis form," and Petomi, from Oct 30, is "video-chat your pets." Only the adult-app review community knows about this, and the few articles about it are all discouraging. The circle is small, but the space is already crowded.
If it were you
E. Don't touch. シロップ grew on things followers can't get and shouldn't try to copy: a ready-made pool of female streamers, a points backend, a pipeline that swaps in a new account whenever one gets banned, and a store page that has nothing to do with the actual features. That last part directly breaks App Store Review Guidelines on accurate metadata, and it skips the operator disclosure Japan's Specified Commercial Transactions Act requires. Apple has already pulled this developer's apps in bulk once and can do it again anytime, so the window is measured in weeks. The golf shell also pulls in people who actually want to practice golf, including minors.
Who it suits: nobody. If you really want to build a Japanese adult video-chat app, look at KANADE or ソラ, which have a company behind them, sit in the Social category, and have been live for a long time, or at FANZA, which has the required disclosures. Those are businesses that require licenses and a supply of hostesses, not something one or two indie developers can pull off.
Who it doesn't suit: anyone who wants to build a lasting product under a real identity and developer account. If the account gets banned, every other app under your name goes down with it.
What to take away: three clean lessons. First, before you launch, check how many new daily installs it takes to reach the top 100 of each category's free chart, and put your app in the category where it actually belongs and can realistically rank. Second, write the title with the feature words users actually search for. Third, the sign-up-bonus-points and first-top-up hook is a paid funnel to study. There's also one warning sign to watch for: lots of ratings but almost no written reviews. Using rating count to estimate downloads will overstate the numbers.
Looking at it from the other side, there is a real problem: the junior-high student's request is genuine. They want someone to remotely watch their swing. If you want to build something here, build a real "remote swing review / virtual coach" app in Sports, benchmarking against swing-camera apps like KiZuKi (34k ratings), not シロップ.
Where this analysis could be wrong: ① Since 2027 January, シロップ and its sister shells are still live and have reached the Top Grossing charts. That suggests Apple has stopped enforcing and the playbook has lasted longer than expected, but it doesn't change the fact that a copycat can't get the hostess pool. ② Someone has built a real use case, "video-chat your swing / pose," with no adult content, in Sports or Health & Fitness and gotten traction. That suggests at least one of these shells addresses real demand and is worth looking at on its own.

Video-chat for a shot of you in the act! シロップ (ios_6810580159)
- App Store:apps.apple.com/jp/app/id6810580159
- Developer: hana shigemiya (individual account, holds only this one app; no seller website)
- Listing: 2026-09-18, no updates since version 1.1; Japan store only; category: Lifestyle; free with in-app purchases
- Age rating 17+. Apple's lookup self-declares "Unrestricted Web Access" and "Frequent/Intense Mature or Suggestive Themes" (iTunes lookup, 2026-11-06).
Bottom line
It's not a golf app. It's a points-based adult video-chat (チャットレディ) lookalike. The store description says golf scoring and swing sharing, but after sign-up the first screen says 「大人向けチャットアプリ」 (adult chat app) and 「可愛い女性を探し」 (looking for cute women). The same operator had all its apps removed in bulk by Apple in early September; 9-18 then relaunched under a new individual account with a golf disguise. It "works" because of a relaunch pipeline that swaps shells + stuffing 「ビデオ通話/見せ合い」 into the name to catch store search + placement in the low-bar Lifestyle free chart. The money comes from a small number of male users buying points by the minute. The product itself has no differentiation.

Source: appstore database app_day / chart_rank / app_snapshot (jp, 10-28 to 11-06); September data from review blogs.
- 7 days, +68 ratings, about 10 a day; average rating slowly rising from 4.12 to 4.16, but only 3 of the 340 ratings have written reviews (App Store review page, 11-06). That suggests most ratings are stars from in-app prompts, not reviews users wrote on their own.
- Has only charted on the Japan Lifestyle Free chart (#87–111), and in the database it never entered any Top Grossing chart in 10 days. The top 40 in Lifestyle Top Grossing are Tinder, Badoo, fortune-telling, and ココハナ (appstore database 11-06); シロップ isn't among them. So its revenue scale can't be seen, and it's most likely small.
- Has never charted in Sports. The real golf apps are all in Sports.
2. What the product actually is
Three Japanese adult-app review blogs all tested it (after signing up):
- deaipolice(2026-09-22): On first launch after sign-up, the home screen reads 「当アプリは大人向けチャットアプリです」 ("This app is an adult chat app") and 「可愛い女性を探し」 ("Looking for cute women"). Within 2 hours of logging in, you get 200+ messages, and not one of them is about golf. The scorecard stats page in the description doesn't actually exist. The women are チャットレディ (chat ladies) contracted by the operator, paid per point men spend. The operator says: "I think Apple gave us a scolding in early September and every app got pulled." The earlier batch was wrapped in the shell 「お互いの料理レシピを見せ合おう」 ("Let's show each other our recipes"). User acquisition: 「卑猥なネット上の広告から男性のみを沢山集客」 ("mass-recruiting only men from lewd online ads"). deaipolice.com/syrup/
- hibana.rgr.jp (2026-09-23): after login, 100+ mechanical messages; point system, 1pt ≈ ¥1.07–1.23; I couldn't confirm the operator fakes the female accounts itself, but the conversation flow pushes users to watch videos and make video calls that burn points. hibana.rgr.jp/syrup/
- deainoinfo (2026-09-23): no Specified Commercial Transactions Act disclosure (no operating company or address); customer service is AI; a 1-minute video call costs about ¥336. deainoinfo.com/livechat/syrup/
Pricing (per the deaipolice article): messages, stickers, viewing photos and listening to voice notes are 60pt each (¥73); watching a video is 160pt (¥196); voice calls are 160pt/min (¥196); video calls are 280pt/min (¥344). Sign-up gives about 300pt, but the bonus points generally can't be used for calls. The blogger's comparison: FANZA-style live chat runs about ¥150/min, and Syrup is pricier.
A notable App Store review (5 days ago): "ゴルフを習っている中1ですが、自分のフォームを見てもらおうと思いインストールしましたが、女の人が映っていてビックリしました" (I'm learning golf and installed this to have my form reviewed, but was surprised to see a woman on screen). The golf wrapper really does draw in people who want to practice golf, minors included. Another review complains about "too many notifications" (10-08).
3. Competitors
3.1 Sister shells from the same operator (all re-listed after the September mass takedown, each under a personal account that has only 1 app)
| Name | Launched | Shell / category | Scale (appstore library, jp, 11-06) |
|---|---|---|---|
| パパイヤ ビデオ通話で見せ合いのポーズ練習!(houshi munakata) | 09-14 | Pose practice / Health & Fitness | 344 ratings, 7 days +58, #31 free in Health & Fitness |
| シロップ(hana shigemiya) | 09-18 | Golf / Lifestyle | 337 ratings, 7 days +68, #105 free in Lifestyle |
Three deaipolice articles (パパイヤ, シロップ, ジョーカー) confirm they're one operator; カシュー is a new shell using the same naming format, whether it's the same company is unverified (see our earlier ios_6812974905 report on ジョーカー).
3.2 Same 「ビデオ通話で〇〇見せ合い」 pattern, disguised adult video chat
The appstore library has 30+ Japanese apps with 「見せ合/見せあい」 in the name (actually more), with new ones appearing every month from 2025-05 to 2026-11:
- ビデオ通話 Carina 見せあいアプリ (2026-04-15, Social): 460 rating, 7 days +148, #42 Top Grossing in Social
- ビデオ通話で筋トレ見せあい - Sakura (2026-03-31, Entertainment): 849 rating, #72 Top Grossing in Entertainment
- ビデオ通話-KAKERU 見せ合いランニング (2026-03-25, Social): 829 rating, #52 Top Grossing in Social
- POPAI - ビデオ通話で卓球フォーム見せあい (2026-11-01, Sports): just charted, #26 free in Sports
- A big batch of others, like Petomi (pets, 10-30), Piwe (stickers, 10-13), SUKIRI (worries, 05-18), and ワンダー (daily life, 09-18), each with only 0–30 ratings and never taking off
The difference: Carina, Sakura and KAKERU have reached the Top Grossing charts, which means people are paying; シロップ is only on the free charts and is smaller.
3.3 Unmasked adult video chat
- ビデオ通話 ソラ (2025-08, Social): 4,507 rating, around #25 Top Grossing in Social; KANADE (2022-02, Social): 6,150 ratings, around #14 Top Grossing in Social; MIYABI+ (2026-04): 1,200 rating (appstore library, cited from our ios_6812974905 report). These sit openly in Social and have stayed listed long-term; シロップ is a short-lived re-skin.
- Licensed web live-chat: FANZA ライブチャット, マダムライブ, ジュエルライブ and others. They have operating companies, drive traffic through affiliates, and charge less.
3.4 Nominal competitors: real golf apps (jp, Sports category)
GDO Score (2.01B rating), Rakuten Golf Score Management (2.02B rating, 7 days +424), Accordia Golf (63k), Golf Swing Camera KiZuKi (34k), Garmin Golf and others. シロップ doesn't compete with them: it isn't in Sports and has no real scoring feature. Golf is just the cover that got it through review.
4. Where users come from
| Channel | Evidence | Confirmed? |
|---|---|---|
| Re-listing under a new shell (after takedown, a new personal account plus a legitimate-looking shell) | deaipolice: every app was removed by Apple in early September; the previous shell was recipe-sharing, and in mid-September it relaunched as golf; that account has only this one app in the library. | Confirmed |
| Store search: stuffing the name with 「ビデオ通話」 and 「見せ合い」 | Title 「ビデオ通話で見せ合いショット!」; the App Store 「その他のおすすめ」 section is full of same-type copycats (ジョーカー, SUKIRI, Teach, ワンダー, JamRoom…), and they cross-promote each other. | Confirmed |
| Placement in the low-barrier Lifestyle free chart | About 10 new ratings a day is enough to hold #87–111 free in Lifestyle (appstore library). | Confirmed |
| Frequent in-app rating prompts | 340 ratings with only 3 written reviews; one review says 「通知入りすぎ」; sister shell ジョーカー has reviews complaining it asks for a rating every time you switch screens. | Inferred (confirmed on sister shells, not directly on this app) |
| Free points on sign-up (the hook) | About 300pt on sign-up, then hundreds of messages right away to pull you into replying | Confirmed (three reviews) |
| Adult online ads that only target men | The deaipolice blogger's claim; I couldn't find specific ad creative | Unconfirmed |
| Meta / TikTok / X | x-radar found nothing in 60 days; the previous report on the same operator also found nothing in the metaads library | None found |
| Search visibility from review blogs | deaipolice, hibana, deainoinfo and sakura-killer all published posts within a week of launch, but they're all warnings plus promotion of other affiliate dating sites | Confirmed (effect is negative) |
Where the money comes from: men buy points; video calls cost ¥344/min and a video clip ¥196; チャットレディ take a revenue share. Apple's in-app purchase cut is 15–30%. It hasn't reached the Top Grossing chart, so single shells don't earn much; the operator's play is to run 3–4 shells at once to spread takedown risk, totaling about 260 new ratings across 7 days (パパイヤ + シロップ + ジョーカー + カシュー, appstore library).
5. Why it took off
- Shell-swapping is the core skill: after Apple removed a whole batch, they relaunched within two weeks under new personal accounts with new shells. The shell template (「ビデオ通話で〇〇見せ合い」 + a plausible utility-style description + screenshots) can be mass-produced.
- Riding search terms: 「ビデオ通話」 and 「見せ合い」 are the search terms Japanese men actually use to find this kind of app, so they go straight into the name; shell words (ショット, スイング) make the use case look legitimate to reviewers.
- Picking low-barrier categories: around #100 in the free Lifestyle chart needs only about 10 ratings a day, and charting brings a bit of organic exposure.
- Adult demand + per-minute pricing: it doesn't need many users; a few men spending a few thousand yen each can cover costs.
- The age rating is 17+ with adult themes, so under Apple's rules it isn't fully 「hiding」 things. What it fakes is the description and screenshots. That may be one reason it has stayed listed longer than the August batch (inference).
6. Differentiation
No product-level differentiation. Compared with similar copycats, the only 「difference」 is the golf shell. In Japan golf is a middle-aged male hobby, which matches the paying-user profile, so it may draw the right people better than pet or sticker shells (inference, no data). What actually made it take off is the operator's shell-swapping pipeline and ASO, not the shell.
7. How many people know about it
- No public revenue figures, no press coverage, and nothing found on X.
- Only Japanese adult-app review and affiliate blogs have written about it (deaipolice 9-22, hibana 9-23, deainoinfo 9-23, sakura-killer), and all of them are warnings.
- The same template is already being copied by lots of people (or was mass-produced by a few operators to begin with), and there are 30 multiple "mutual showcase" fake-account apps on the JP store.
→ Circulating in small circles (adult app review communities), and the category was already crowded.
8. What to borrow
- What's legitimate: getting free-chart placement in low-barrier categories; putting feature words users actually search for directly in the name; requesting ratings in-app at high-frequency moments to build rating counts.
- What not to copy: using a listing description that doesn't match the real app to pass review, and having no Japanese Specified Commercial Transactions Act disclosure. This violates App Store Review Guideline 2.3 (accurate metadata) and the Japanese Specified Commercial Transactions Act. deaipolice considers it possibly fraud. Apple has already mass-removed this developer once and could do it again at any time.
9. Uncertain
- Actual revenue: never charted in Top Grossing, so no estimate is possible.
- Ad channels and creatives: no evidence found.
- The batch before September (the mutual recipe-sharing app) couldn't be identified by name or scale.
- Whether カシュー and POPAI are run by the same operator is unverified.
- How many of the ratings are fake (sakura-killer currently has only 3 reviews, not enough to judge).
