> NeeDoh went out of stock in the UK just as the Christmas season hit, and parents were hunting for one. It put 'NeeDoh Stock' in its title and became the only native app ranking #1 for that search in the UK App Store. On the UK Shopping Top Grossing chart, a few subscriptions get it into the top 50.

Squish Alert for NeeDoh Stock · Alana Mcguire

# At 6 a.m. 31, a squishy Christmas tree toy launched: how Squish Alert squeezed into the UK Shopping Top Grossing top 50

**What it is** It monitors 90 small UK toy shops; when NeeDoh squishy toys restock, it pushes an alert to your phone and opens the product page directly. It also flags suspected fakes and overpriced shops, on a subscription app.

**Why it took off** NeeDoh was out of stock across the UK just as Christmas shopping season arrived, and parents were hunting everywhere for them. It put "NeeDoh Stock" in its title and became the only native app ranking #1 for that search on the UK App Store, while the UK Shopping Top Grossing chart is reachable with just a few subscriptions into the top 50.

**B** **How you could follow it** Don't build another NeeDoh alert in the UK. Instead, take the template (a sold-out hit × small shops in one country × a native app subscription × a brand name in the title) to a country nobody has covered yet, or to another sold-out brand, launch before the holidays, and make short videos from live restock reports.

Grade B: the template is clear, the cost is low, and few people know about it; it can be moved to other countries or brands. But a single country's small chart has a very low ceiling, the UK is already crowded, and it runs entirely on a toy craze, so the window may close within a few months. Hardly anyone knows about it yet

Squish Alert is a UK-only restock alert app for NeeDoh squishy toys, launched in Oct 21, built by one person or a couple, opening straight to a £2.99/month subscription wall. Two weeks after launch, it peaked at #37 in the UK App Store Shopping Top Grossing chart, yet only 8 people in the whole UK had rated it. It got its traffic from the search term "needoh stock" in the store, plus the fact that the UK Shopping Top Grossing chart has a very low bar. The business is small and the window is short, but the approach can be moved to other countries and other sold-out hit products.

### "Squish Alert users get the alert first"

Late at night on Nov 2, the TikTok account @squishalerts posted a video captioned with one line: "Speks Christmas tree dropped this morning at 06:31 🎄 Squish Alert users got the alert first." The day before it had posted "NeeDoh Dream Drop just landed at JKDIRECT, £21.99, our users got it in the first second"; later posts read "Jukupop's Nice Cube candy swirl sold out in under 2 minutes 😱" and "Toy Barnhaus's mini Groovy Glob restocked 4 times today, and our users got an alert every time."

The account started posting on Nov 1; by 11-06 it had 7 videos, each getting 130 to 620 views, with only 6 followers (TikTok, 11-06). The volume is tiny and won't bring in many users, but the videos show exactly what the app sells: UK NeeDoh stock is scattered across many small toy shops, nobody knows which shop restocks when, and when it does, it's gone within minutes.

NeeDoh is a squeeze-and-fidget toy from US company Schylling, and it has been sold out worldwide since 2026. The Atlantic (April) and Bloomberg (June) both ran pieces on parents hunting for it. In the UK, Bigjigs is the sole importer, and it spreads stock across many independent toy shops, which often restock quietly without warning. The community calls these "ghost drops." On r/NeeDoh, UK users keep posting "UK Stock??" and "can't find it anywhere in the UK." 10, and November brings advent calendars and limited-edition Speks Christmas trees, so the shortage gets even more obvious.

### What it is

The first line of the store page reads: "Missed another NeeDoh restock? Squish Alert watches over 90 UK stores all day, and pushes an alert to your phone the moment NeeDoh restocks. Tap the alert to go straight to the product page, not the store homepage."

The features all center on "getting it first" and "not buying a fake":

- Most shops are checked once a minute; you can set alerts by brand, or follow only tags like ghost, santa, cube, or advent;

- Mute a specific shop, or hide with one tap any shop flagged as "suspected fake or inflated price";

- Push alerts carry labels like "suspected fake / overpriced / bundle / in-store only";

- Users can recommend new shops or report problems with a shop.

There really are fake NeeDoh sites in the UK. malwaretips exposed one, needoh-uk.com, two weeks ago. The app description also has a section titled "HONEST ABOUT LIMITS": popular drops sell out in seconds, and we can't guarantee you'll get one.

Pricing: 7-day free trial, then £2.99/month or £19.99/year, no account signup needed. Available on iOS and Google Play. The developer account is Alana Mcguire, who has only this one app. The contact email in the terms of service is a different person's name, and the backend runs on Railway. It looks like a solo or couple project (inference). It's iterating fast: 10-31 to 11-06 it shipped 6 versions, and by 11-06 evening it had reached 1.0.9, covering 90 stores, up from the 70 listed in the earliest description.

### Where users come from: the brand name is hardcoded in the title, "NeeDoh Stock"

Most of the traffic comes from App Store search. The app's full name is "Squish Alert for NeeDoh Stock", with both the brand name and "stock" in the title. Searching "needoh stock" on the UK App Store 11-06 ranks it #1, with TYPA at #2 and HotStock at #3. Searching "needoh" ranks it #2, and searching "squish alert" ranks it #1.

That spot is open because plenty of people in the UK run NeeDoh restock alerts, but almost none of them have built a native app. needohalert.com is a web page you add to your home screen, and it requires a UK phone number to sign up. SquishSignal is a Telegram channel. Fidget Finder UK runs paid memberships on Whop plus Telegram and Discord. Drop Radar sends emails. None of these show up in App Store search. So when a UK parent searches NeeDoh in the store, the first dedicated app they see is this one.

The other two sources are small. One is the TikTok account above, which just started posting. The other is the name. 2021 there was a Squishmallows restock app also called "Squish Alert" that went viral on TikTok, and some plush collectors still remember the name (inference: it was likely a deliberate reuse). I found no one mentioning it in the Reddit or Facebook parent groups. Whether it runs Apple Search Ads can't be seen from outside (unverified).

### Its chart ranking looks better than its real scale

Its trend on the UK Top Grossing Shopping chart (App Store UK storefront):

| Date | Shopping Top Grossing rank | Score |
|---|---|---|
| 10-31 | 69 | 0 |
| 11-02 | 127 | 0 |
| 11-03 | 70 | 0 |
| 11-04 | **37** | 0 |
| 11-05 | 41 | 2 |
| 11-06 | 48 | 5 (8 ratings that evening, 4.5 stars) |

Rank #37 sounds good, but the bar for the UK shopping Top Grossing chart is low. 11-06 Apps ranked between 30 and 70 are mostly small apps with 0 to 20 ratings: Thrifted ranks #49 with 0 ratings, and WhatPrice ranks #52 with 1 ratings. It only charts in the UK store and has no overall chart ranking, so my estimate is that its daily subscription revenue is in the tens of pounds (estimate only; no public revenue data to verify).

The only bad review proves someone is paying. 11-03 One UK user gave it 1 stars: "You have to pay monthly or yearly, which is annoying. I haven't even used the app 😞". It opens straight to a subscription wall, free trial first, charge later. For a parent trying to snag a Christmas present for their kid, £2.99 is nothing.

The same thing happens with other toys. Jelly Tracker, a restock alert for Jellycat plush, has only 2 to 4 ratings and ranks #8 to #20 on the UK Shopping Top Grossing chart. "Collectible toy restock alert + subscription" usually makes it onto this small UK chart.

### Who it's competing with

| Product | Form | Scale | Compared with Squish Alert |
|---|---|---|---|
| HotStock (UK, Litebox, 2017) | iOS / Android / web | UK: 5,471 ratings, Shopping Top Grossing #11–24 | Long-running general restock alert covering consoles, GPUs, and toys, with a dedicated NeeDoh page |
| TYPA(2025) | iOS / Android / Discord | US: 2,990 ratings, claims 120k active users worldwide; UK only 14 ratings | Completely free, mainly covers US Amazon, Target, and Walmart, weak coverage of UK shops |
| Restockd | iOS / Android / web | Tracks 92 NeeDoh products | Free, mainly US retailers |
| Needoh Alert(needohalert.com) | Web | UK: 28 shops, checks every 20 seconds; 350 spots available, 205 left | $2.99/month, requires a UK phone number to sign up. The author said on Reddit it was built for his girlfriend |
| SquishSignal | Telegram channel | Not verified | £4.99/month. The founder is a parent who was trying to get NeeDoh for their daughter |
| Fidget Finder UK, Drop Radar | Community / web page + email | Not verified | Drop Radar is cross-category, covering Labubu, Pokémon, Jellycat, and LEGO |
| Retailers' own "notify me when back in stock" | — | — | Covers a single store only, and doesn't distinguish fakes |

The UK NeeDoh alert space is already crowded, and most of these rivals are solo projects that popped up separately during the 2026 shortage wave, not copies of this one. Compared with them, it has two real differences: it's a native app with Apple subscriptions and no signup, and it focuses on UK's 90+ small shops while ignoring big US retailers. Features like shop scraping and fake detection are things others also do, so they're not a moat.

### If it were you

**Verdict** : B. Building yet another NeeDoh alert in the UK is already late. At least seven or eight others are competing there, and this one holds the top search spot. What's worth copying is the template: **a sold-out hot product × a long tail of small shops in one country × native app subscriptions × a title that hardcodes "<brand> stock"** . It's fast to build, cheap, and few people know about it. The weakness is the low ceiling (a single-country small chart, tens of pounds a day) and that it runs on a burst of hype, so demand disappears once the hype fades.

**Who it fits** : indie developers who can write scrapers and ship a native app in a week or two, ideally based in that country so they know which local independent toy shops exist and which parent groups people use. Treat it as a quick, seasonal side project, or as a toolkit you can reuse with different brands.

**Who it doesn't fit** : anyone wanting a long-term business; anyone unwilling to maintain scraping rules for dozens or hundreds of shops (one page change breaks the alert); anyone aiming at the US market, where TYPA and Restockd already cover the big retailers for free.

**How to do it:**

- Other countries: look for English-speaking or smaller-language markets where NeeDoh is also sold out but no native local alert app exists yet, such as Australia, Ireland, Canada, the Netherlands, or Germany (inference; before you start, check each regional store for similar apps and search "needoh" and "needoh stock" plus the local-language terms). First, list the 30 to 100 small shops in that country that sell NeeDoh. Many run on Shopify, which makes scraping easy.

- Other brands: reuse the same code for Labubu, Jellycat, Pokémon cards, or Speks. Jelly Tracker and PokeNotify already do this on the UK chart, so the approach clearly works.

- Do what it hasn't done well: UK parents care most about flagging fakes and overpricing, so make that the most visible selling point. Add a page showing when each shop has restocked over the past 30 days. That's more useful than plain push alerts and can serve as a free hook.

**How to get users** : the most important step is putting "<brand> Stock" or the local-language "<brand> restock" first in the title. After launch, post a short TikTok or Instagram video for every real restock, following its format: "Shop X dropped product Y at HH:MM and sold out in minutes; our users got the push first." Real-time reports like that are proof in themselves. Then answer "where to buy" posts in the Reddit subreddits and local Facebook parent groups. It doesn't do this at all.

**Launch timing** : ship before mid-December. Parents are most desperate just before Christmas, when advent calendars and Christmas limited editions both drop. Some people on Reddit estimate the NeeDoh craze could last about 4 more months, and after spring next year it's much less certain.

**Signs you're wrong** : ① two weeks after launch, you hold the top search spot but still can't reach the top 100 on the local Shopping chart, which means the country's demand or willingness to pay isn't there; ② after January, Squish Alert drops out of the UK top 150, which means the hype has faded and you shouldn't keep investing in this brand; ③ Schylling or a big retailer launches its own cross-shop restock alerts, or Apple removes an app like this for using someone else's trademark in the title, and this path is closed; ④ conversely, if Squish Alert stays in the UK top 50 after Christmas, the demand lasts longer than expected and you can raise the rating.

## Squish Alert for NeeDoh Stock (iOS id6816220167) research report

> Research date 2026-11-06. Storefronts checked: I scanned all storefronts in the library, and it has only charted in the UK (gb); no records in any other storefront.

### Bottom line

It's a UK-local restock alert app for NeeDoh (Schylling's squishy toy), on a subscription model. It took off for three reasons. First, the UK NeeDoh shortage overlapped with the Christmas season (advent calendars, limited Speks Christmas tree editions). Second, the name literally includes "NeeDoh Stock", so it ranks #1 for "needoh stock" and #2 for "needoh" on the UK App Store, capturing store search traffic. Third, the bar for the UK Shopping Top Grossing chart is low, so a few paying subscribers can push it into the top 50. **Scale is small** : the UK storefront has 8 ratings in total. Many UK players already run NeeDoh alerts: HotStock, SquishSignal, Fidget Finder UK, Needoh Alert, Drop Radar, Jelly Tracker, and others. It's one of the few built as a **native app with Apple subscriptions** , and that's its differentiator.

### 1. Data (source: our appstore library, gb storefront)

| Date | UK Shopping Top Grossing rank | Ratings (new) | Version |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10-31 | 69 | 0 | 1.0.3 |
| 11-01 | 99 | 0 | 1.0.5 |
| 11-02 | 127 | 0 | 1.0.5 |
| 11-03 | 70 | 0 | 1.0.5 |
| 11-04 | **37** | 0 | 1.0.6 |
| 11-05 | 41 | 2 (+2) | 1.0.6 |
| 11-06 | 48 | 5 (+3) | 1.0.8 |

- Launched 2026-10-21. As of 11-06 evening, the Apple lookup already shows 8 ratings, average 4.5, version 1.0.9. Between 10-31 and 11-06 they shipped 6 versions, and store coverage in the listing went from 70+ to 90+ (the 1.0.3 listing stored by chartoo.co.uk said 70+).

- **Low bar** : 11-06 ranked #30–70 in the UK Shopping Top Grossing chart, mostly small apps with 0–20 ratings. Thrifted sits at #49 with 0 ratings, WhatPrice at #52 with 1. It charts in only one store and has no overall-chart position, so my guess is daily subscription revenue in the tens of pounds (inference, unverified).

- Pricing: 7-day free trial, then £2.99/month or £19.99/year. No account sign-up required (App Store listing, terms of service).

- The only negative review (11-03,1 star): "You have to pay monthly or yearly … I have not tried the app". So it's a paywall as soon as you open it, with almost no free functionality.

- For comparison: Jelly Tracker (Jellycat plush restock alerts) ranks #8–20 in the UK Shopping Top Grossing chart with only 2–4 ratings. That suggests "collectible toy restock alerts + subscription" can usually get onto this small UK chart.

### 2. Competitors

The UK NeeDoh restock-alert space is crowded, and most of it are personal side projects that appeared during the 2026 shortage.

| Name | Form | Launched | Scale | How it differs from Squish Alert |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| HotStock (Litebox Ltd, a UK company) | iOS / Android / web | 2017-09 | 5,471 UK ratings, UK Shopping Top Grossing #11–24 (11-01 to 11-06, from the library); has a dedicated hotstock.io/uk/p/needoh page | Long-running general restock tool (covers consoles, GPUs and toys), free plus paid speed-up, not NeeDoh-specific |
| TYPA(Typa Inc) | iOS / Android / Discord | 2025-05 | 2,990 US ratings, 7-day +202 (from the library); claims 120k active users worldwide; only 14 UK ratings | Completely free, focused on US Amazon / Target / Walmart; promoted on r/NeeDoh and by TikTok creators, but UK store coverage is weak |
| Restockd | iOS / Android / web | Not verified | Tracks 92 NeeDoh products, 7-day 322 restocks (restockd.app) | Free, mainly US retailers |
| Needoh Alert (needohalert.com, AJ Wylie, a UK sole trader) | Web PWA (push notifications after adding to home screen) | 2026 years; terms updated 11-03 | 28 UK stores, checked every 20 seconds; 350 UK spots, 205 left | $2.99/month, limited spots, requires account sign-up and a UK phone number; a Reddit poster said it was built for their girlfriend |
| SquishSignal(squishsignal.co.uk) | Telegram channel | 2026 | Not verified | £4.99/month, alerts sent to a Telegram group; the founder is a parent who was hunting NeeDoh for their daughter |
| Fidget Finder UK | Whop membership + Telegram / Discord | 2026 | Not verified | Discord / Telegram community-style alerts |
| Drop Radar(dropradar.co.uk) | Web + email | 2026 | Not verified | Cross-category (Labubu, Pokémon, Jellycat, LEGO), with a Christmas pass |
| Paragn (Luke Hackett, UK) | iOS | 2026-08 | 33 UK ratings | Aimed at resellers: sneakers and cards, with market prices |
| The original Squish Alert (Shlime LLC) | iOS / Android | 2021 | Was very popular on TikTok a few years ago (#squishalertapp) | Covers Squishmallows, not NeeDoh. This app's name collides with it, and the original is currently not findable in the UK store |
| Big-company features | Retailers' own "notify me when back in stock", Target app notifications | — | — | Covers only single stores, and can't tell fakes apart |

### 3. Growth tactics (where users come from)

1. **App Store search (confirmed, believed to be the main channel)** : the title hard-codes "NeeDoh Stock". 11-06 checked the UK iTunes Search: "needoh stock" ranks #1 (#2 is TYPA, #3 is HotStock), "needoh" ranks #2, and "squish alert" ranks #1. Almost no store app is dedicated to NeeDoh; the closest, NeeDoh Collector, is just a collection checklist at £1.99 paid download.

2. **Own TikTok account (confirmed, but small reach)** : @squishalerts has posted 7 videos since 11-01, all in the same format: "Store X just listed product Y at time Z, Squish Alert users were notified first, link in bio". The bio links to an appqr.io download redirect. 6 followers, 130–620 views per video (TikHub, 11-06), not much traffic.

3. **Riding on a name (inferred)** : "Squish Alert" was the name of a Squishmallows restock app that was popular 2021 years ago and is recognized in toy collector circles. The new app reuses it.

4. **Reddit / Facebook parent groups (no evidence found)** : UK users on r/NeeDoh keep asking where to find stock and what alerts to use (threads like "UK Stock??" and "Finding stock is impossible here in the uk"), but I found no one mentioning this app. Reddit page bodies were blocked by 403, so I couldn't read them one by one.

5. **Apple Search Ads / Meta ads** : unverified.

### 4. Why it took off

- **The demand is real, and it's peak season:** NeeDoh sold out worldwide in 2026, with The Atlantic (April) and Bloomberg (June) both covering it. In the UK, The Kid Collective wrote an April explainer on the shortage, and r/NeeDoh users say they haven't seen restocks in over a month. UK stock is exclusively imported by Bigjigs and scattered across lots of small independent toy shops, so it appears in dribs and drops (the scene calls them "ghost drops"), which is impossible to track by hand. 10–November is advent calendar and Speks limited-edition Christmas tree season, and this App's tags include ghost, santa, and advent.

- **The store-search slot is empty** : apart from this one, there's basically no native UK App Store app dedicated to NeeDoh restocks. TYPA is free but has weak UK coverage (14 UK ratings), and HotStock is a general tool. Other UK NeeDoh alerts are web-based or run on Telegram / Discord, so they don't show up in store search.

- **The chart bar is low** : most of the UK Shopping Top Grossing #30–70 apps have fewer than 20 ratings, so a handful of subscriptions is enough to chart. That means the ranking overstates its scale.

- **Paywall on open** : it's a subscription wall the moment you open it, with a 7-day trial. Parents are willing to pay £2.99 for a shot at "getting one", and the negative review backs that up.

### 5. Differentiation

- Compared with the web and Telegram competitors in the UK: it is a **native iOS / Android app that uses Apple or Google subscriptions, with no account sign-up** . Tapping a notification opens the product page directly. You can filter by store, brand, and tag, and block individual stores. Competitors either need you to join a Telegram group, add a web page to your iPhone home screen, or register with a phone number.

- Compared with TYPA and Restockd: it **focuses only on UK independent stores (90+)** and ignores the big US retailers entirely.

- **Flagging fakes and inflated prices** : you can hide stores suspected of selling fakes or marking prices up too much, and alerts carry labels like "suspected fake / overpriced / bundle / in-store only". Fake NeeDoh sites are common in the UK (malwaretips exposed needoh-uk.com two weeks ago), and competitor needohalert.com publishes a guide on spotting fakes. That suggests "fear of buying fakes" is a real pain point for UK parents.

- **Is this why it took off?** Only partly. What pushed it onto the charts is mainly "native app + the name occupies the search term", which leaves it with no rivals in store search, combined with the low chart bar. Tracking 90 stores and flagging fakes are features comparable to Needoh Alert and SquishSignal, so they're not a moat.

### 6. Visibility and copycats

- **Visibility: few people know about it yet** . No public revenue numbers, no press coverage, nothing in X corpus search, the TikTok account has only 6 followers, and nobody on Reddit mentions it. The developer account is Alana Mcguire, with this app as the only one under the name. The terms of service contact email is a Gmail under another person's name (nicholas.orr099@…), and the backend runs on Railway. It looks like a personal or couple-run project.

- **Copycats** : none explicitly copying it yet. But UK NeeDoh restock alerts were already crowded: Needoh Alert, SquishSignal, Fidget Finder UK and Drop Radar all grew up around the same time, so this is parallel competition rather than imitation.

### 7. Takeaways

- The template is "viral physical product out of stock × a long tail of small shops in one country × native app subscription × brand term hard-coded in the title". Big US retailers are already covered by free tools, so go after the countries or small shops free tools miss, then use the title to claim search terms like "<brand> stock". Jellycat (Jelly Tracker) and Pokémon TCG (PING and PokeNotify on the UK charts) use the same template.

- The community trusts "protects against fakes", so make that the selling point.

- TikTok posts like "Store X listed product Y at this time, our users knew first" are live proof points that cost little to produce (it has only just started).

### 8. Still unclear

- Whether it runs Apple Search Ads or Meta ads (unverified).

- Android install counts: not in our googleplay library, and it hasn't charted there.

- Real subscription numbers and retention. Will demand drop after the NeeDoh hype passes Christmas? (A Reddit user estimated it could stay hot for "maybe 4 more months".) If it does, this app's demand goes with it.

- Whether riding the "Squish Alert" name draws a trademark complaint from the original brand (Shlime LLC).
